Abstract
Cryogels are polymeric materials with a sponge-like microstructure and have attracted significant attention in recent decades. Research has focused on their composition, fabrication techniques, characterization methods as well as potential or existing fields of applications. The use of functional precursors or functionalizing ligands enables the preparation of cryogels with desired properties such as biocompatibility or responsivity. They can also exhibit adsorptive properties or can be used for catalytical purposes. Although a very brief overview about several functional (macro-)monomers and functionalizing ligands has been provided by previous reviewers for certain cryogel applications, so far there has been no particular focus on the evaluation of the functionalization success and the characterization methods used. This review will provide a comprehensive overview of different characterization methods most recently used for the evaluation of cryogel functionalization. Furthermore, new functional (macro-)monomers and subsequent cryogel functionalization strategies are discussed, based on synthetic polymers, biopolymers and a combination of both. This review highlights the importance of the functionalization aspect in cryogel research in order to produce materials with tailored properties for certain applications.

Abstract
The use of enzyme immobilisation is becoming increasingly popular in beverage processing, as this method offers significant advantages, such as enhanced enzyme performance and expanded applications, while allowing for easy process termination via simple filtration. This literature review analysed approximately 120 articles, published on the Web of Science between 2000 and 2023, focused on enzyme immobilisation systems for beverage processing applications. The impact of immobilisation on enzymatic activity, including the effects on the chemical and kinetic properties, recyclability, and feasibility in continuous processes, was evaluated. Applications of these systems to beverage production, such as wine, beer, fruit juices, milk, and plant-based beverages, were examined. The immobilisation process effectively enhanced the pH and thermal stability but caused negative impacts on the kinetic properties by reducing the maximum velocity and Michaelis-Menten constant. However, it allowed for multiple reuses and facilitated continuous flow processes. The encapsulation also allowed for easy process control by simplifying the removal of the enzymes from the beverages via simple filtration, negating the need for expensive heat treatments, which could result in product quality losses.

Abstract
Enzyme immobilization is an effective method for improving the stability and reusability. However, linking at random sites on the enzyme results in low catalytic efficiency due to blockage of the active site or conformational changes. Therefore, controlling the orientation of enzymes on the carrier has been developed. Here, the site-specific mutation and the SpyTag/SpyCatcher systems were used to prepare a site-directed immobilized enzyme. The thermal stability of the immobilized enzyme was better than that of the free enzyme, and ≥80 % of the catalytic activity was retained after 30 days of storage. Furthermore, the Michaelis constant (Km) and the turnover number (kcat) of the immobilized enzyme were 5.23-fold lower and 6.11-fold higher than those of the free enzyme, respectively, which appeared to be related to changes in secondary structure after immobilization. These findings provide a new and effective option for enzyme-directed immobilization.

Abstract
Herein, three enzymes (cellulase, β-glucosidase, and pectinase) with synergistic effects were co-immobilized on the Eudragit L-100, and the recovery of co-immobilized enzymes from solid substrates were achieved through the reversible and soluble property of the carrier. The optimization of enzyme ratio overcomed the problem of inappropriate enzyme activity ratio caused by different immobilization efficiencies among enzymes during the preparation process of co-immobilized enzymes. The co-immobilized enzymes were utilized to catalytically hydrolyze cellulose from corn straw into glucose, achieving a cellulose conversion rate of 74.45% under conditions optimized for their enzymatic characteristics and hydrolytic reaction conditions. As a result of the reversibility and solubility of the carrier, the co-immobilized enzymes were recovered from the solid substrate after five cycles, retaining 54.67% of the enzyme activity. The aim of this study is to investigate the potential of co-immobilizing multiple enzymes onto the Eudragit L-100 carrier for the synergistic degradation of straw cellulose.

Abstract
Pectinases are outstanding multienzymes, which have the potential to produce new emerging pectic-oligosaccharides (POS) via enzymatic hydrolysis of pectin. However, free pectinase is unable to undergo repeated reaction for the production of POS. This study proposed a sustainable biocatalyst of pectinases known as cross-linked pectinase aggregates (CLPA). Pectinase from Aspergillus aculeatus was successfully precipitated using 2 mg/mL pectinase and 60 % acetone for 20 min at 20 °C, which remained 36.3 % of its initial activity. The prepared CLPA showed the highest activity recovery (85.0 %), under the optimised conditions (0.3 % (v/v) starch and glutaraldehyde mixture (St/Ga), 1.5: 1 of St/Ga, 25 °C, 1.5 h). Furthermore, pectin-degrading enzymes from various sources were used to produce different CLPA. The alteration of pectinase secondary structure gave high stability in acidic condition (pH 4), thermostability, deactivation energy and half-life, and improved storage stability at 4 °C for 30 days. Similarly to their free counterpart, the CLPA exhibited comparable enzymatic reaction kinetics and could be reused eight times with approximately 20 % of its initial activity. The developed CLPA does not only efficaciously produced POS from pectin as their free form, but also exhibited better operational stability and reusability, making it more suitable for POS production.

Abstract
Immobilized enzymes are currently being rapidly developed and are widely used in juice clarification. Immobilized enzymes have many advantages, and they show great advantages in juice clarification. The commonly used methods for immobilizing enzymes include adsorption, entrapment, covalent bonding, and cross-linking. Different immobilization methods are adopted for different enzymes to accommodate their different characteristics. This article systematically reviews the methods of enzyme immobilization and the use of immobilized supports in juice clarification. In addition, the mechanisms and effects of clarification with immobilized pectinase, immobilized laccase, and immobilized xylanase in fruit juice are elaborated upon. Furthermore, suggestions and prospects are provided for future studies in this area.

Abstract
The 1,4-conjugate addition reaction between activated alkynes or acetylenic Michael acceptors and nucleophiles (i.e., the nucleophilic Michael reaction) is a historically useful organic transformation. Despite its general utility, the efficiency and outcomes can vary widely and are often closely dependent upon specific reaction conditions. Nevertheless, with improvements in reaction design, including catalyst development and an expansion of the substrate scope to feature more electrophilic alkynes, many examples now present with features that are congruent with Click chemistry. Although several nucleophilic species can participate in these conjugate additions, ubiquitous nucleophiles such as thiols, amines, and alcohols are commonly employed and, consequently, among the most well developed. For many years, these conjugate additions were largely relegated to organic chemistry, but in the last few decades their use has expanded into other spheres such as bioorganic chemistry and polymer chemistry. Within these fields, they have been particularly useful for bioconjugation reactions and step-growth polymerizations, respectively, due to their excellent efficiency, orthogonality, and ambient reactivity. The reaction is expected to feature in increasingly divergent application settings as it continues to emerge as a Click reaction.

Abstract
Alginate biopolymers are characterized by favorable properties, of biocompatibility, degradability, and non-toxicity. However, the poor stability properties of alginate have limited its suitability for diverse applications. Recently, click chemistry has generated significant research interest due to its high reaction efficiency, high selectivity for a single product, harmless byproducts, and processing simplicity. Alginate modified using click chemistry enables the production of alginate derivatives with enhanced physical and chemical properties. Herein, we review the employment of click chemistry in the development of alginate-based materials or systems. Various click chemistries were highlighted, including azide and alkyne cycloaddition (e.g. Copper-(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC), Strain-promoted alkyne-azide cycloaddition (SPAAC)), Diels-Alder reaction (Inverse electron demand Diels-Alder (IEDDA) cycloaddition, Tetrazine-norbornene Diels-Alder reactions), Thiol-ene/yne addition (Free-radical thiol-ene addition click reactions, Thiol-Michael addition click reactions, Thiol-yne addition click reaction), Oxime based click reactions, and other click reactions. Alginate functionalized with click chemistry and its properties were also discussed. The present study shows that click chemistry may be employed in modifying the mechanical strength, biochemical/biological properties of alginate-based materials. Finally, the applications of alginate-based materials in wound dressing, drug delivery, protein delivery, tissue regeneration, and 3D bioprinting were described and the future perspectives of alginates modified with click chemistry, are subsequently presented. This review provides new insights for readers to design structures and expand applications of alginate using click chemistry reactions in a detailed and more rational manner.

Abstract
