Abstract
The postharvest quality of winter jujubes is prone to deterioration, including inevitable pericarp reddening and rapid nutrient loss from the flesh, significantly impacting its edible quality and commercial value. As a crucial metabolic pathway in plants, phenylpropane metabolism not only regulates plant stress resistance but also closely relates to various coloration effects. In this study, we investigated the effects of luteolin solutions on postharvest color changes and phenylpropanoid metabolism in winter jujube. The results indicated that compared to the control group, winter jujube fruit treated with 200 mg L-1 luteolin exhibited improved quality indexes, increased antioxidant capacity (capability of eliminating ABTS and DPPH radicals), and higher activities of antioxidant enzymes(superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase (CAT)). This led to a reduction in the oxidation of phenolic substances in winter jujube. Furthermore, luteolin treatment inhibited phenylpropanoid metabolism by suppressing the activities of 4-Coumarate: coenzyme A ligase (4CL), phenylalanine ammonilyase (PAL), and cinnamate 4 hydroxylase (C4H), as well as the expression of ZjUFGT, ZjDFT, and ZjPAL genes. Consequently, anthocyanin and quercetin synthesis were limited while the degradation rate of chlorophyll and carotenoid synthesis were slowed down after luteolin treatment. This resulted in delayed reddening of winter jujube following luteolin treatment. In conclusion, luteolin exhibits potential application prospects as a preservative for inhibiting reddening and browning in winter jujubes.

Abstract
Fleshy fruits become more susceptible to pathogen infection when they ripen; for example, changes in cell wall properties related to softening make it easier for pathogens to infect fruits. The need for high-quality fruit has driven extensive research on improving pathogen resistance in important fruit crops such as tomato (Solanum lycopersicum). In this review, we summarize current progress in understanding how changes in fruit properties during ripening affect infection by pathogens. These changes affect physical barriers that limit pathogen entry, such as the fruit epidermis and its cuticle, along with other defenses that limit pathogen growth, such as preformed and induced defense compounds. The plant immune system also protects ripening fruit by recognizing pathogens and initiating defense responses involving reactive oxygen species production, mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling cascades, and jasmonic acid, salicylic acid, ethylene, and abscisic acid signaling. These phytohormones regulate an intricate web of transcription factors (TFs) that activate resistance mechanisms, including the expression of pathogenesis-related genes. In tomato, ripening regulators, such as RIPENING INHIBITOR and NON_RIPENING, not only regulate ripening but also influence fruit defenses against pathogens. Moreover, members of the ETHYLENE RESPONSE FACTOR (ERF) family play pivotal and distinct roles in ripening and defense, with different members being regulated by different phytohormones. We also discuss the interaction of ripening-related and defense-related TFs with the Mediator transcription complex. As the ripening processes in climacteric and non-climacteric fruits share many similarities, these processes have broad applications across fruiting crops. Further research on the individual contributions of ERFs and other TFs will inform efforts to diminish disease susceptibility in ripe fruit, satisfy the growing demand for high-quality fruit and decrease food waste and related economic losses.

Abstract
Verticillium dahliae, a notorious phytopathogenic fungus, is responsible for vascular wilt diseases in numerous crops. Uncovering the molecular mechanisms underlying pathogenicity is crucial for controlling V. dahliae. Herein, we characterized a putative oxidoreductase-like protein (VdOrlp) from V. dahliae that contains a functional signal peptide. While the expression of VdOrlp was low in artificial media, it significantly increased during host infection. Deletion of VdOrlp had minimal effects on the growth and development of V. dahliae but severely impaired its pathogenicity. Metabolomic analysis revealed significant changes in organic heterocyclic compounds and phenylpropane compounds in cotton plants infected with ΔVdOrlp and V991. Furthermore, VdOrlp expression was induced by lignin, and its deletion affected the metabolism of host lignin and phenolic acids. In conclusion, our results demonstrated that VdOrlp plays an important role in the metabolism of plant phenylpropyl lignin and organic heterocyclic compounds and is required for fungal pathogenicity in V. dahliae.

Abstract
Exogenous substances (ESs) can regulate plant growth and respond to environmental stress, but the effects of different ESs on blueberry fruit quality under soil cadmium (Cd) toxicity and related metabolic mechanisms are still unclear. In this study, four ES treatments [salicylic acid (SA), spermidine (Spd), 2,4-epibrassinolide (EBR), and melatonin (MT)] significantly increased blueberry fruit size, single-fruit weight, sweetness, and anthocyanin content under soil Cd toxicity and effectively reduced fruit Cd content to safe consumption levels by promoting mineral uptake (Ca, Mg, Mn, Cu and Zn). Furthermore, a total of 445, 360, 429, and 554 differentially abundant metabolites (DAMs) (LC-MS) and 63, 48, 79, and 73 DAMs (GC-MS) were identified from four comparison groups (SA/CK, Spd/CK, EBR/CK and MT/CK), respectively. The analyses revealed that ESs improved blueberry fruit quality and tolerance to Cd toxicity mainly by regulating the changes in metabolites related to ABC transporters, the TCA cycle, flavonoid biosynthesis, and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis.

Abstract
Flavonoids have diverse beneficial roles that potentiate their application as nutraceutical agents in nutritional supplements and as natural antimicrobial agents in food preservation. To address poor solubility and bioactivity issues, we developed water-soluble micellar formulations loaded with single and multiple flavonoids using the biocompatible surface-active ionic liquid choline oleate. The food preservation performance was investigated using luteolin, naringenin, and quercetin as model bioactive compounds. The micellar formulations formed spherical micelles with particle sizes of <150 nm and exhibited high aqueous solubility (>5.15 mg/mL). Co-delivery of multiple flavonoids (luteolin, naringenin, and quercetin in LNQ-MF) resulted in 84.85% antioxidant activity at 100 μg/mL. The effects on Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella enterica were synergistic with fractional inhibitory concentration indices of 0.87 and 0.71, respectively. LNQ-MF hindered the growth of S. aureus in milk (0.83-0.89 log scale) compared to the control. Co-delivered encapsulated flavonoids are a promising alternative to chemical preservatives.

Abstract
FERONIA (FER) is a receptor-like kinase showing versatile functions during plant growth, development, and responses to environmental stimuli. However, its functions during the interaction between fruit and necrotrophic fungal pathogens are still unclear. Combining reverse genetic approaches, physiological assays, co-immunoprecipitation, protein phosphorylation identification, and site-directed mutagenesis, we reported a tomato FER homolog SlFERL (Solanum lycopersicum FERONIA Like) involved in the immune responses to Botrytis cinerea invasion. The results indicated that SlFERL extracellular domain recognized and interacted with the secreted virulence protein BcPG1 from B. cinerea, further revealed that SlFERL triggered downstream signaling by phosphorylating SlMAP3K18 at Thr45, Ser49, Ser76, and Ser135. Moreover, we verified that SlMAP2K2 and SlMAP2K4 synergistically contributed to immune response of tomato to B. cinerea, in which SlFERL-SlMAP3K18 module substantially modulated protein level and/or kinase activity of SlMAP2K2/SlMAP2K4. These findings reveal a new pattern-triggered immune pathway, indicating that SlFERL participates in the immune responses to B. cinerea invasion via recognizing BcPG1 and fine-tuning MAPK signaling.

Abstract
Panax notoginseng (P. notoginseng) is an invaluable perennial medicinal herb. However, the roots of P. notoginseng are frequently subjected to severe damage caused by root-knot nematode (RKN) infestation. Although we have observed that P. notoginseng possessed adult-plant resistance (APR) against RKN disease, the defense response mechanisms against RKN disease in different age groups of P. notoginseng remain unexplored. We aimed to elucidate the response mechanisms of P. notoginseng at different stages of development to RKN infection by employing transcriptome, metabolome, and histochemistry analyses. Our findings indicated that distinct age groups of P. notoginseng may activate the phenylpropanoid and flavonoid biosynthesis pathways in varying ways, leading to the synthesis of phenolics, flavonoids, lignin, and anthocyanin pigments as both the response and defense mechanism against RKN attacks. Specifically, one-year-old P. notoginseng exhibited resistance to RKN through the upregulation of 5-O-p-coumaroylquinic acid and key genes involved in monolignol biosynthesis, such as PAL, CCR, CYP73A, CYP98A, POD, and CAD. Moreover, two-year-old P. notoginseng enhanced the resistance by depleting chlorogenic acid and downregulating most genes associated with monolignol biosynthesis, while concurrently increasing cyanidin and ANR in flavonoid biosynthesis. Three-year-old P. notoginseng reinforced its resistance by significantly increasing five phenolic acids related to monolignol biosynthesis, namely p-coumaric acid, chlorogenic acid, 1-O-sinapoyl-D-glucose, coniferyl alcohol, and ferulic acid. Notably, P. notoginseng can establish a lignin barrier that restricted RKN to the infection site. In summary, P. notoginseng exhibited a potential ability to impede the further propagation of RKN through the accumulation or depletion of the compounds relevant to resistance within the phenylpropanoid and flavonoid pathways, as well as the induction of lignification in tissue cells.

Abstract
Spoilage and mycotoxin contamination of fruits cause significant economic losses and food safety issues. Synthetic chemical fungicide treatment as primary postharvest management has attracted increasing public concern in recent years, because it may cause negative effects on the environment and human health. Numerous bioactive compounds from plants have demonstrated excellent control effects on fruit spoilage and mycotoxin contamination. Plant bioactive compounds have been considered one of the most promising alternatives, because they are generally regarded as safe and environmentally friendly. Here, we reviewed the most recent advances in plant bioactive compounds in the prevention of fungal spoilage and mycotoxin contamination in fruits. The control effects of these compounds and the mechanisms involved were summarized, and current limitations and future perspectives were discussed.

Abstract
Manipulating the crop load in peach trees determines carbon supply and optimum balance between fruit yield and quality potentials. The impact of carbon supply on peach fruit quality was assessed in three development stages (S2, S3, S4) on fruit of equal maturity from trees that were carbon (C) starved (unthinned) and sufficient (thinned). Previous studies determined that primary metabolites of peach fruit mesocarp are mainly linked with developmental processes, thus, the secondary metabolite profile was assessed using non-targeted liquid chromatography mass-spectrometry (LC-MS). Carbon sufficient (C-sufficient) fruit demonstrated superior quality attributes as compared to C-starved fruit. Early metabolic shifts in the secondary metabolome appear to prime quality at harvest. Enhanced C-availability facilitated the increased and consistent synthesis of flavonoids, like catechin, epicatechin and eriodyctiol, via the phenylpropanoid pathway, providing a link between the metabolome and fruit quality, and serving as signatures of C-sufficiency during peach fruit development.

Abstract
Reports show that phytohormone abscisic acid (ABA) is involved in reducing zucchini postharvest chilling injury. During the storage of harvested fruit at low temperatures, chilling injury symptoms were associated with cell damage through the production of reactive oxygen species. In this work, we have studied the importance of different non-enzymatic antioxidants on tolerance to cold stress in zucchini fruit treated with ABA. The application of ABA increases the antioxidant capacity of zucchini fruit during storage through the accumulation of ascorbate, carotenoids and polyphenolic compounds. The quantification of specific phenols was performed by UPLC/MS-MS, observing that exogenous ABA mainly activated the production of flavonoids. The rise in all these non-enzymatic antioxidants due to ABA correlates with a reduction in oxidative stress in treated fruit during cold stress. The results showed that the ABA mainly induces antioxidant metabolism during the first day of exposure to low temperatures, and this response is key to avoiding the occurrence of chilling injury. This work suggests an important protective role of non-enzymatic antioxidants and polyphenolic metabolism in the prevention of chilling injury in zucchini fruit.

Abstract
Previously, wax + cinnamaldehyde (WCA) was proven to be able to effectively alleviate fruit decay and induce resistance in harvested Satsuma mandarin (Citrus unshiu). However, the potential molecular mechanism is largely unknown. In the present study, transcriptomics, metabolomics and biochemical analyses were combined to clarify this process. Transcriptomic analysis revealed that the expression of genes involved in secondary metabolites and related to pathogenesis and the phenylpropanoid pathway were significantly influenced by WCA treatment. In addition, metabolite profiling revealed that metabolites in the phenylpropanoid pathway were also predominantly impacted after WCA treatment. Correspondingly, enzymatic activities and gene expression involved in the phenylpropanoid pathway were positively regulated, especially in the first 24 h, resulting in increased levels of total phenolics, flavonoids and other secondary metabolites. Fruit inoculation experiments showed that WCA treatment significantly reduced the development of citrus green mold and sour rot while having no adverse effects on the edible quality of the tested citrus fruit. Our study confirms the potential role of WCA exposure in citrus to induce resistance through the phenylpropanoid pathway.

Abstract
This study explores the relationship between the storage quality and bacterial microflora in the mushroom Lyophyllum decastes. The surface bacteria of L. decastes were separated by combining the traditional culture plate separation and 16S rRNA sequencing method, to study the effects of ultrasonic (US) treatment on the surface bacteria of L. decastes during storage. The results demonstrated that Pantoea agglomerans and Pseudomonas fluorescens were among the 15 culturable bacteria isolated with traditional plate method during storage, belonging to 2 phyla and 7 genera. US treatment could inhibit the growth and significantly increase cell membrane permeability, and contents extravasation in P. agglomerans, though its inhibitory effect on P. fluorescens was less. The 16S rRNA sequencing revealed, bacteria from 9 phyla and 35 genera were isolated, and P. fluorescens was the dominant species throughout the storage time. These results indicated that the composition of mushroom surface microflora of Control (CK) and US groups are similar, and the bacterial microflora networks analysis also showed a positive correlation. The KEGG annotation for the functional classification of the bacteria showed that a total of 328 pathways were acquired at the KEGG l3 level, and the relative abundance of membrane transport, amino acid metabolism, carbohydrate metabolism, and energy metabolism pathway was high. Moreover, the relative abundance of the surface bacteria of L. decastes also decreased. Hence, the US treatment had a better bacteriostatic effect, maintained the whiteness index and firmness, and improved the sensory quality of L. decastes during storage.

Abstract
Cold-stored 'Nanguo' pears are susceptible to peel browning during subsequent shelf life. In this study, 'Nanguo' pears were cold-stored for different periods to elucidate the metabolism of phenylpropanoid accompanying browning. Changes in phenolics and flavonoids and the crucial enzyme activity and related gene expression involved in the phenylpropanoid pathway were monitored. It was found that the fruit that underwent long-term storage showed peel browning symptoms prior to softening, and the symptom got worse with increasing shelf life. Meanwhile, the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the decrease of ROS scavenging ability were noted. The content of phenolics and flavonoids and the activity and expression of shikimate dehydrogenase (SKDH), phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL), cinnamate-4-hydroxylase (C4H), and 4-coumarate-CoA ligase (4CL) involved in the phenylpropanoid pathway decreased with prolonged storage. Correlation analysis revealed that browning was positively correlated with ROS accumulation, and the content of phenolics and flavonoids directly affected ROS scavenging ability. In addition, the decrease in phenolics and flavonoids might be owing to the reduced activity of SKDH, PAL, and 4CL and the down-regulated expression of PuPAL and Pu4CL. Collectively, this study indicated that the metabolism of phenylpropanoid is associated with the browning response induced by low-temperature stress.

Abstract
Plant phospholipase D (PLD) and its product phosphatidic acid (PA) function in both abiotic and biotic stress signaling. However, to date, a PLD gene conferring the desired resistance to both biotic and abiotic stresses has not been found in cotton. Here, we isolated and identified a PLD gene GhPLDδ from cotton (Gossypium hirsutum), which functions in Verticillium wilt resistance and salt tolerance. GhPLDδ was highly induced by salicylic acid (SA), methyl jasmonate (MeJA), abscisic acid (ABA), hydrogen peroxide, PEG 6000, NaCl, and Verticillium dahliae in cotton plants. The positive role of GhPLDδ in regulating plant resistance to V. dahliae was confirmed by loss- and gain-of-function analyses. Upon chitin treatment, accumulation of PA, hydrogen peroxide, JA, SA, and the expression of genes involved in MAPK cascades, JA- and SA-related defense responses were positively related to the level of GhPLDδ in plants. The treatment by exogenous PA could activate the expression of genes related to MAPK, SA, and JA signaling pathways. Moreover, GhPLDδ overexpression enhanced salt tolerance in Arabidopsis as demonstrated by the increased germination rate, longer seedling root, higher chlorophyll content, larger fresh weight, lower malondialdehyde content, and fully expand rosette leaves. Additionally, the PA content and the expression of the genes of the MAPK cascades regulated by PA were increased in GhPLDδ-overexpressed Arabidopsis under salt stress. Taken together, these findings suggest that GhPLDδ and PA are involved in regulating plant defense against both V. dahliae infection and salt stress.

Abstract
Botryosphaeria dothidea is a major pathogen responsible for postharvest kiwifruit soft rot. This study aimed to determine the influence of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) on postharvest resistance to kiwifruit soft rot and the antifungal role of H2S against B. dothidea. The results indicated that H2S (20 μl L-1) restricted the lesion area following inoculation with B. dothidea. H2S enhanced the production of shikimic acid, tyrosine, tryptophan, and phenylalanine while also increasing the total phenols, flavonoids, and lignin. H2S upregulated the expression of AcDHQS, AcSDH, AcSK, AcPAL, AcCAD, and AcCHS. Additionally, sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS)-released H2S inhibited mycelial growth. NaHS concentrations of 20 and 40 mmol L-1 significantly decreased the mycelial weight and malondialdehyde content (MDA) content while increasing cell membrane conductivity and membrane leakage. The results indicate that H2S induces resistance in kiwifruit via a microbicidal role and amino acid metabolism involved in postharvest kiwifruit disease resistance.

Abstract
Pummelo fruit rapidly depreciate in commodity value due to postharvest fungal decay and fruit quality deterioration. Here, we used carvacrol (CVR) to control Phomopsis stem-end rot (SER) caused by Diaporthe citri in pummelo fruit stored at 25 °C. Antifungal activity of CVR inhibited D. citri growth and Phomopsis SER development. Harvested pummelo fruit treated with CVR delayed firmness loss and lowered electrolyte leakage, and retarded hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and malondialdehyde (MDA) accumulation. Unlike the control fruit, the CVR-treated fruit maintained higher levels of adenosine triphosphate and energy charge, and increased ATPase, succinate dehydrogenase (SDH), malate dehydrogenase (MDH), and cytochrome C oxidase (CCO) activities, along with up-regulated expression levels of the respective genes. CVR improved the antioxidant capacity, as evidenced by higher non-enzymatic antioxidants amounts, higher activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX) and glutathione reductase (GR), and up-regulated expression levels of ROS-scavenging-related genes. Collectively, CVR treatment maintained the energy status and antioxidant capacity in D. citri-infected pummelo fruit, which revealed antifungal mechanisms critical for controlling postharvest fungal diseases.

Abstract
The horticultural industry helps to enrich and improve the human diet while contributing to growth of the agricultural economy. However, fungal diseases of horticultural crops frequently occur during pre- and postharvest periods, reducing yields and crop quality and causing huge economic losses and wasted food. Outcomes of fungal diseases depend on both horticultural plant defense responses and fungal pathogenicity. Plant defense responses are highly sophisticated and are generally divided into preformed and induced defense responses. Preformed defense responses include both physical barriers and phytochemicals, which are the first line of protection. Induced defense responses, which include innate immunity (pattern-triggered immunity and effector-triggered immunity), local defense responses, and systemic defense signaling, are triggered to counterstrike fungal pathogens. Therefore, to develop regulatory strategies for horticultural plant resistance, a comprehensive understanding of defense responses and their underlying mechanisms is critical. Recently, integrated multi-omics analyses, CRISPR-Cas9-based gene editing, high-throughput sequencing, and data mining have greatly contributed to identification and functional determination of novel phytochemicals, regulatory factors, and signaling molecules and their signaling pathways in plant resistance. In this review, research progress on defense responses of horticultural crops to fungal pathogens and novel regulatory strategies to regulate induction of plant resistance are summarized, and then the problems, challenges, and future research directions are examined.

Abstract
Digitoflavone (DG) is a natural flavonoid abundant in many fruits, vegetables, and medicinal plants. We investigated whether DG inhibits lipid accumulation and inflammatory responses in alcoholic liver disease (ALD) in vivo and in vitro. The mouse ALD model was established by chronically feeding male C57BL/6 mice an ethanol-containing Lieber-DeCarli liquid diet. In vitro, mouse peritoneal macrophages (MPMs) and mouse bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) were stimulated with LPS/ATP, whereas HepG2 cells and mouse primary hepatocytes were treated with ethanol. DG reduced the serum levels of transaminase and serum and hepatic levels of triglycerides and malondialdehyde in ALD mice. DG downregulated SREBP1 and its target genes and upregulated PPARα and its target genes in the liver of mice with ALD. DG inhibited TLR4-mediated NLRP3 inflammasome activation, consequently reversing the inflammatory response, including the production of HMGB1, IL-1β, and IL-36γ, as well as the infiltration of macrophages and neutrophils. DG blocked NLRP3/ASC/caspase-1 inflammasome activation and HMGB1 release in LPS/ATP-stimulated MPMs. When Tlr4 was knocked in LPS/ATP-stimulated BMDMs, HMGB1 production and release were blocked, and NLRP3-mediated cleavage and release of IL-1β was suppressed in Hmgb1-silenced BMDMs. DG amplified these inhibitory effects in Tlr4 or Hmgb1 knockdown BMDMs. In ethanol-exposed hepatocytes, DG reduced lipogenesis and promoted lipid oxidation by inhibiting the HMGB1-TLR4 signaling pathway while suppressing the inflammatory response induced by ethanol exposure. Our data demonstrated that DG inhibited the occurrence of lipid accumulation and the inflammatory response via the HMGB1-TLR4 axis, underscoring a promising approach and utility of DG for the treatment of ALD.

Abstract
Peach is a putrescible fruit thus drastically restricting its postharvest storage life. In recent years, the application of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) and nitric oxide (NO) in postharvest fruit quality control has received considerable attention and investigative efforts due to the advantages of using relatively low concentrations and short-time treatment duration. In the present study, the effects of various 1-MCP and NO treatments on peach fruit (Prunus persica L. cv. Xiahui-8) stored at 25 °C were evaluated and compared. Results indicated that the combination treatment with both chemical agents (MN) was most effective in postponing peach ripening and preserving fruit quality, followed by 1-MCP and NO treatment alone. We also demonstrated that NO could delay fruit senescence mainly by stimulating antioxidant enzymes, while 1-MCP overly outperformed NO in the treatment of ‘Xiahui-8′ peach in slowing down respiration rate, inhibiting ethylene production, maintaining high firmness and reducing ROS content. NO treatment showed a greater influence on phenolic compounds than 1-MCP especially anthocyanins, flavanones and flavones according to LC/MS analysis. The phenolic change in MN group were highly associated to NO treatment. Through this study we provide informative physiological, biochemical and molecular evidence for the beneficial effects of the combined 1-MCP and NO treatment on peach fruit based on a functional synergy between these two chemical agents.

Abstract
During evolution, plants have developed sophisticated ways to cope with different biotic and abiotic stresses. Phytohormones and secondary metabolites are known to play pivotal roles in defence responses against invading pathogens. One of the key hormones involved in plant immunity is salicylic acid (SA), of which the role in plant defence is well established and documented. Plants produce an array of secondary metabolites categorized in different classes, with the phenylpropanoids as major players in plant immunity. Both SA and phenylpropanoids are needed for an effective immune response by the plant. To successfully infect the host, pathogens secrete proteins, called effectors, into the plant tissue to lower defence. Secreted effectors can interfere with several metabolic or signalling pathways in the host to facilitate infection. In this review, we will focus on the different strategies pathogens have developed to affect the levels of SA and phenylpropanoids to increase plant susceptibility.

Abstract
P2X7 receptor (P2X7R) and NLRP3 cooperatively participate in inflammation and hepatocyte damage during hepatic injury induced by lipopolysaccharides (LPS). High-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) released from immune cells in response to such stimuli plays a vital role in mediating inflammation via TLR4 and the receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE), a receptor for HMGB1. However, the correlation among P2X7R, RAGE and TLR4 in regulating the release of HMGB1 has not been elucidated. Increasing the number of daily foods is found to be beneficial for hepatocyte damage in septic hepatic injury. Hence, we investigated the effects of luteolin, a natural flavonoid mainly existing in vegetables and fruits, on liver injury, focusing on how luteolin participates in hepatitis based on the P2X7R-RAGE-TLR4 axis by regulating the release of HMGB1. The results demonstrated that the indicators of hepatic injury such as increased ALT, AST in the serum and infiltration of immune cells were attenuated after luteolin treatment in LPS-induced mice. Luteolin could also suppress the production and release of HMGB1 and the activation of caspase 1 both in LPS-induced mice and LPS/ATP-stimulated HepG2 cells. Collectively, luteolin reversed LPS-induced hepatic injury, especially inflammation, likely by regulating the release of HMGB1 through the P2X7R-RAGE-TLR4 axis.

Abstract
The disease caused by pathogenic fungi is the main cause of postharvest loss of fresh fruits. The formulation of disease control strategies greatly depends on the understanding of pathogenic mechanism of fungal pathogens and control strategy. In recent years, based on the application of various combinatorial research methods, some pathogenic genes of important postharvest fungal pathogens in fruit have been revealed, and their functions and molecular regulatory networks of virulence have been explored. These progresses not only provide a new perspective for understanding the molecular basis and regulation mechanism of pathogenicity of postharvest pathogenic fungi, but also are beneficial to giving theoretical guidance for the creation of new technologies of postharvest disease control. Here, we synthesized these recent advances and illustrated conceptual frameworks, and identified several issues on the focus of future studies.
