Dissipation and Residues of Pyraclostrobin in Rosa roxburghii and Soil under Filed Conditions. Foods 2022; 11:foods11050669. Abstract
Rosa roxburghii has been widely planted in China. Powdery mildew is the most serious disease of R. roxburghii cultivation. Pyraclostrobin was widely used as a novel fungicide to control powdery mildew of R. roxburghii. To assess the safety of pyraclostrobin for use on R. roxburghii fruits, its residue rapid analysis as well as an investigation on its dissipation behaviors and terminal residues in R. roxburghii and soil under field conditions were carried out. The QuEChERS method was simplified using LC−MS/MS detection and combined with liquid−liquid extraction purification to allow determination of pyraclostrobin levels in R. roxburghii fruits and the soil. The fortified recoveries at 0.1~5.0 mg/kg were 93.48~102.48%, with the relative standard deviation of 0.64~3.21%. The limit of detection of the analytical method was 0.16 and 0.15 µg/kg for R. roxburghii fruit and soil, respectively. The effects of different spray equipment and formulations on the persistence of pyraclostrobin in R.roxburghii were as follows: gaston gasoline piggyback agricultural sprayer (5.38 d) > manual agricultural backpack sprayer (3.37 d) > knapsack multi-function electric sprayer (2.91 d), suspension concentrate (SC) (6.78 d) > wettable powder (WP) (5.64 d) > water dispersible granule (WG) (4.69 d). The degradation of pyraclostrobin followed the first-order kinetics and its half-lives in R.roxburghii and soil were 6.20~7.79 days and 3.86~5.95 days, respectively. The terminal residues of pyraclostrobin in R. roxburghii and soil were 0.169~1.236 mg/kg and 0.105~3.153 mg/kg, respectively. This study provides data for the establishment of the maximum residue limit (MRL) as well as the safe and rational use of pyraclostrobin in R. roxburghii production.

Abstract
The dissipation and residues of tembotrione in corn field application were investigated using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method. The average recoveries of tembotrione in maize, corncob, and straw were in the ranges of 98-107% with relative standard deviations (RSDs ≤9.3%), respectively. The recoveries of M5 was in the ranges of 90-108% in all three matrices of maize, with RSDs were 3.3-12.8%. The LODs for tembotrione and M5 in maize were 0.85 μg/L and 1.0 μg/L, 0.84 μg/L and 0.43 μg/L in corncob, 0.94 μg/L and 1.5 μg/L in straw, respectively. The LOQs of the method in maize grain, corncob and straw were 0.01, 0.01 and 0.05 mg/kg for both analytes, respectively. The dissipation of tembotrione in straw was in compliance with the first-order dynamic equation, with half-lives of 1.18-1.23 days at Beijing and Heilongjiang. Total residue of tembotrione in maize grain and corncob matrix were both below 0.02 mg/kg, lower than the max residue limit (MRL) recommended by european food safety authority (EFSA). Risk quotients (RQs) of this pesticide was assessed via comparing national estimated daily intake with acceptable daily intake. The dietary intake risk of tembotrione residue in maize was very low for all groups of Chinese residents. These data could provide scientific data and strategies and facilitate Chinese government to establish the MRLs of tembotrione.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cyromazine (CYR) and its main degradation product melamine (MEL) are attracting wide attention due to their potential hazards to the environment and humans. In this work, double surfactants-assisted electromembrane extraction (DS-EME) by Tween 20 and alkylated phosphate was firstly used for purification and extraction of CYR and MEL, and the extract was directly analyzed by capillary electrophoresis with capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection. RESULTS Under the optimum conditions, two targets could be well separated from the main interferences, including common biogenic amines and inorganic cations within 14 min. This developed method was successfully applied to the analyses of surface water, soil and cucumber samples, and the average recoveries were in the range 93.3-112%. DS-EME provided a synergistic purification and enrichment effect for CYR and MEL by adding Tween 20 and alkylated phosphate into donor phase and supporting liquid membrane, respectively. Satisfactory limits of detection [0.2-1.5 ng mL-1 , signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) = 3] could be obtained in the tested sample matrices, and the corresponding enrichment factors were up to 115∼123 times. CONCLUSION This developed method provides an alternative for the simultaneous analysis of CYR and MEL in complex real-world samples. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
We determined the concentrations of melamine, ammeline, ammelide, and cyanuric acid in meat, fish and seafood, cereal products, beverages, cooking oil, and vegetables (n = 121) collected from Albany, New York, United States. In addition, food packaging (n = 24) and animal feed (n = 12) were analyzed to determine the sources of melamine and its derivatives in foods. Among the six categories of foods analyzed, median concentrations of ∑melamine (sum of melamine and its three derivatives) in meat (23.6 ng/g fresh weight; fw) and cereal products (20.9 ng/g fw) were significantly (p < 0.05) higher than those in other food categories (<5.03 ng/g fw). Cyanuric acid and melamine were the major compounds, accounting for 51% and 26% of the total ∑melamine concentrations, respectively. ∑melamine was found ubiquitously in food packaging (median: 36.2 ng/g fw) and animal feed (56.5 ng/g fw), which are two important sources of melamine found in foodstuffs. The median estimated daily dietary intakes (including concentrations reported for dairy products in our previous study) of melamine and cyanuric acid were in the ranges of 13.4-72.7 and 75.4-347 ng/kg body weight/day, respectively, for various age groups. Dairy products, cereal products, and meat were major sources of dietary melamine (~76%) and cyanuric acid (~95%) exposure. The calculated hazard quotients for dietary exposure to melamine and cyanuric acid were well below 1.0, which suggested minimal risk from current exposures.

Abstract
Occurrence, spatial distribution, and temporal trends of melamine and its derivatives (ammeline, ammelide, and cyanuric acid) were investigated in surface sediment and two sediment cores collected from Lake Shihwa, South Korea. ∑Melamine (sum of melamine and its three derivatives) was found in all surface sediment samples at concentrations that ranged from 16.6 to 4390 ng/g dry weight (dw), with an average value of 202 ng/g dw. ∑Melamine concentrations exhibited a clear spatial gradient, in decreasing order, as: creeks (mean: 577 ng/g dw) > inshore locations (41.9 ng/g dw) > offshore locations (24.3 ng/g dw). ∑Melamine concentrations were notably high in sediment collected near wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) outfalls. Melamine was the most prevalent compound in sediment collected from creeks (87%) and WWTP outfall locations (48%), whereas cyanuric acid was the dominant compound in sediment from inshore (51%) and offshore (63%) locations. The historical profiles of ∑Melamine in sediment cores corresponded with coastal development and environmental changes in this region. This is the first study to document the occurrence and temporal distribution of melamine in sediment cores, and this information is useful in understanding the fate of these relatively less-studied chemicals in the environment.

Abstract
Melamine-based resins are used extensively in laminates, plastics, coatings, glues, and dinnerware. Little is known, however, about the occurrence of melamine and its derivatives in the environment. In this study, a nationwide survey of melamine and its derivatives, namely ammeline, ammelide, and cyanuric acid, was conducted, using archived sewage sludge samples collected from 68 wastewater treatment plants in the United States (U.S.). The sum concentrations of four target compounds in sludge ranged from 34 to 1800 ng/g dry weight (dw), with a mean concentration of 240 ng/g dw; melamine (46%) and cyanuric acid (40%) collectively accounted for 86% of the total mass of analytes. No significant geographical variation in the concentrations of melamine and its derivatives in sewage sludge was found. The estimated emission of melamine and its derivatives via land-application of sludge was approximately 1600 kg/yr in the U.S. The hazard quotient values for melamine in sludge-amended soils ranged from 2.2 × 10-5 to 4.4 × 10-3, indicating that the current levels of melamine in sludge pose a minimal risk to the soil environment.

Abstract
We synthesized a selective molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction (MIP-SPE) column and established an extraction and enrichment method using this MIP-SPE column. By coupling with HPLC, we developed a new method to detect trace amounts of melamine in eggs. The MIP-SPE column was synthesized by in situ thermal-initiated polymerization using melamine as the template, methacrylic acid as the functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as the cross-linker and azodiisobutyronitrile as the initiator. HPLC was used to evaluate the identification and enrichment capability of the MIP-SPE column and for the measurement of melamine in the sample. The melamine concentration exhibited an excellent linear relationship in the range of 0.1-25.0 µg ml-1 (r = 0.9983). The identification capability of the MIP-SPE column was apparently superior to that of the non-imprinted polymer solid-phase extraction column; an average enrichment factor of 46.8-fold (RSD = 3.5%) was obtained for 0.4 µg ml-1 melamine by the MIP-SPE column. When the MIP-SPE HPLC method was applied to the detection of melamine in eggs, an average recovery rate of 93.5-102.0% (RSD = 3.6-4.9%) and a limit of detection of 0.05 µg kg-1 were obtained. This method is simple, fast and cost-effective; thus, it can greatly simplify the pre-treatment of complex samples and can be used in the detection of residual melamine in eggs and other products.

Abstract
A sensitive method for simultaneous determination of pyridaben, dinotefuran, DN and UF in eggplant ecosystem was established and validated through rapid resolution liquid chromatography triples quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry (RRLC-QqQ-MS/MS). Matrix-matched external calibrations were introduced to check matrix effects. Limits of quantification (LOQs) of pyridaben, dinotefuran, DN and UF in eggplant were 0.2, 0.2, 1.0 and 1.0 μg kg-1, and 0.2, 0.2, 5.0 and 1.0 μg kg-1 in soil, respectively. Limits of detection (LODs) of four pesticides were below 0.41 μg L-1. The mean recoveries (n = 5) of these insecticides varied from 79.4% to 103%, and the relative standard deviations (RSDs) ranged from 2.1% to 15.3% at three levels. This method was applied to Chinese open-field samples from two representative locations, which were previously treated with these insecticides at the doses of 210-315 g a.i. ha-1 twice or three times. The dissipations of pyridaben and dinotefuran in eggplant and soil followed first-order kinetics with the half-lives of 3.65-11.4 d. The residues of pyridaben and total dinotefuran (calculated as sum of dinotefuran parent, DN and UF) in eggplant were below 0.0311 mg kg-1 at the pre-harvest interval (PHI, 7 d). Presently, no maximum residue limit (MRL) of pyridaben and dinotefuran in eggplant was recommended by China, Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) or European Union (EU). This study was important for evaluation of environmental fate and food safety of pyridaben and dinotefuran in eggplant ecosystems, and facilitated China to establish maximum residue limits (MRLs) of pyridaben and dinotefuran in eggplant.

Detection of Cyanuric Acid and Melamine in Infant Formula Powders by Mid-FTIR Spectroscopy and Multivariate Analysis. J FOOD QUALITY 2018. Abstract
Chemometric methods using mid-FTIR spectroscopy were developed in order to reduce the time of study of melamine and cyanuric acid in infant formulas. Chemometric models were constructed using the algorithms Partial Least Squares (PLS1, PLS2) and Principal Component Regression (PCR) in order to correlate the IR signal with the levels of melamine or cyanuric acid in the infant formula samples. Results showed that the best correlations were obtained using PLS1 (R2: 0.9998, SEC: 0.0793, and SEP: 0.5545 for melamine and R2: 0.9997, SEC: 0.1074, and SEP: 0.5021 for cyanuric acid). Also, the SIMCA model was studied to distinguish between adulterated formulas and nonadulterated samples, giving optimum discrimination and good interclass distances between samples. Results showed that chemometric models demonstrated a good predictive ability of melamine and cyanuric acid concentrations in infant formulas, showing that this is a rapid and accurate technique to be used in the identification and quantification of these adulterants in infant formulas.

Abstract
Providing guidance on the reasonable use of pesticide in agricultural production is of particular importance for ensuring food safety. In the present study, a field trial was performed to study the dissipation and accumulative pattern of cyromazine (CA) and its metabolite in Agaricus bisporus (A. bisporus) cultivation. An ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) method was first developed and validated for the determination of CA and melamine (MEL) in the casing soil and fruiting body. During the cultivation period, the dissipation rates of CA in the casing soil were between 51.57 and 63.48% at three dose groups. The fruiting body presented higher accumulation ability for MEL compared with CA. The terminal residues of MEL never exceeded the maximum residue limits (MRLs) in food. In addition, the intake health risk from the CA and MEL residues in the fruiting body were negligible to humans. This study will help to provide valuable guidance on the application strategies of CA in A. bisporus cultivation.

Abstract
LH-2010A is a newly developed fungicide with novel mode of action in the treatment of cucurbit downy mildew. Dissipation kinetics and residue levels of LH-2010A in cucumber were investigated using a QuEChERS method with GC-ECD. Field trials were constructed at three different sites in China in 2013 and 2014. The average recoveries of LH-2010A in fortified samples were between 94.0 and 106.2% for cucumber and between 84.4% and 98.7% for soil, with relative standard deviations within 3%. The dissipation rate of LH-2010A residue was evaluated assuming a pseudo first-order kinetics. The half-lives of LH-2010A were 2.8-4.2 days and 6.3-9.4 days in cucumber and soil samples, respectively. The terminal residues in cucumber were 0.077-0.207 mg/kg and 0.109-0.307 mg/kg on the first day after spray at the recommended dosage and 1.5 times of the recommended dosage, respectively. Using this rapid and sensitive method, we determined the dissipation kinetics and residue level of HL-2010A in cucumber. The suggested MRL value of HL-2010A in cucumber is 0.5 mg/kg. The research would provide guidance for proper and safe use of this newly developed fungicide in cucumber in greenhouse ecosystems.

Abstract
The dissipation kinetics and residual levels of florasulam and tribenuron-methyl in wheat field ecosystem were determined using a quick, easy, cheap, efficient, rugged and safe method (QuEChERS) with rapid resolution liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (RRLC-MS/MS). The average recoveries of florasulam and tribenuron-methyl at three spiking levels in wheat plant, soil, wheat straw and wheat grain ranged from 72.8% to 99.2% with relative standard deviations (RSDs) were less than 10.1% and 82.5% to 103.8% with RSDs were less than 9.4%, respectively. The limits of quantification (LOQs) of florasulam and tribenuron-methyl for wheat plant, wheat straw, wheat grain and soil were 0.01, 0.01, 0.005, 0.005 mg kg(-1), respectively. The field trials results showed that the half-lives of florasulam were 2.76-10.83 d. Half-lives for tribenuron-methyl were found to be 1.27-5.37 d. The terminal residues in wheat grain were much lower than maximum residue limits (MRLs) set by China (0.01 mg kg(-1) for florasulam and 0.05 mg kg(-1) for tribenuron-methyl), which considered to be safe for human beings. These results will contribute to establishing the scientific basis of the dosage of florasulam and tribenuron-methyl for use in wheat field ecosystems.

Abstract
Surfactant-enhanced hollow fiber liquid phase (SE-HF-LPME) microextraction was applied for the extraction of melamine in conjunction with high performance liquid chromatography with UV detection (HPLC–UV). Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) was added firstly to the sample solution at pH 1.9 to form hydrophobic ion-pair with protonated melamine. Then the protonated melamine–dodecyl sulfate ion-pair (Mel–DS) was extracted from aqueous phase into organic phase immobilized in the pores and lumen of the hollow fiber. After extraction, the analyte-enriched 1-octanol was withdrawn into the syringe and injected into the HPLC. Preliminary, one variable at a time method was applied to select the type of extraction solvent. Then, in screening step, the other variables that may affect the extraction efficiency of the analyte were studied using a fractional factorial design. In the next step, a central composite design was applied for optimization of the significant factors having positive effects on extraction efficiency. The optimum operational conditions included: sample volume, 5 mL; surfactant concentration, 1.5 mM; pH 1.9; stirring rate, 1500 rpm and extraction time, 60 min. Using the optimum conditions, the method was analytically evaluated. The detection limit, relative standard deviation and linear range were 0.005 μg mL−1, 4.0% (3 μg mL−1, n = 5) and 0.01–8 μg mL−1, respectively. The performance of the procedure in extraction of melamine from the soil samples was good according to its relative recoveries in different spiking levels (95–109%).
