Abstract
The increasing significance of biopolymer-based food packaging can be attributed to its biodegradability and independence from petroleum-derived materials. Concurrently, metal oxide nanoparticles (NPs) have gained prominence as effective antimicrobial agents against both wild-type and antibiotic-resistant microbes. In this study, cerium oxide or ceria, CeO2, nanoparticles with an average diameter of 50 nm were synthesized via a green method utilizing Vibrio sp. VLC cell lysate supernatant. The synthesized CeO2 NPs displayed remarkable antimicrobial properties, inhibiting the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus by 93.7 % and 98 %, respectively. To enhance the potential of bacterial cellulose (BC) for advanced applications, we developed a BC/xanthan/CeO2 nanocomposite using both ex situ and in situ techniques. The integration of CeO2 NPs within the nanocomposite structure not only improved the inherent properties of BC, but also rendered it suitable for use in active food packaging systems. The nanocomposite exhibited no significant cytotoxicity on the human dermal fibroblast (HDF) cells, confirming its safety. Nanocomposites containing biogenically synthesized CeO2 NPs demonstrated exceptional efficacy for reducing microbial contamination. Bread samples coated with nanocomposite films displayed no signs of microbial growth. These results support the application of BC/xanthan/CeO2 nanocomposites as suitable and effective coating materials for antimicrobial food packaging applications.

Abstract
Radix Paeoniae Alba (RPA) has been used extensively in Chinese traditional medicine to treat gastrointestinal disorders, immune-modulating diseases, cancers, and numerous other conditions. A few of its active components include paeoniflorin, albiflorin, lactiflorin, and catechin. However, their therapeutic effectiveness is compromised by poor pharmacokinetic profiles, low oral bioavailability, short half-lives, and poor aqueous solubility. In this study, hydroxyethyl cellulose-grafted-2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid (HEC-g-AMPS) hydrogels were successfully prepared for the controlled release of Radix Paeonia Alba-solid dispersion (RPA-SD). A total of 43 compounds were identified in RPA-SD using UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS analysis. The hydrogel network formation was confirmed by FTIR, TGA, DSC, XRD, and SEM. Hydrogels' swelling and drug release were slightly higher at pH 1.2 (43.31% swelling, 81.70% drug release) than at pH 7.4 (27.73% swelling, 72.46% drug release) after 48 h. The gel fraction, drug release time and mechanical strength of the hydrogels increased with increased polymer and monomer concentration. Furthermore, the hydrogels were porous (84.15% porosity) and biodegradable (8.9% weight loss per week). Moreover, the synthesized hydrogels exhibited excellent antimicrobial and antioxidative properties.

Abstract
Common warts are benign skin lesions caused by the human papillomavirus. Although they are usually not harmful, they can cause pain, depending on their location. While many modalities are available for treatment of warts, none is a gold standard, and many are not affordable and/or have suboptimal outcomes. Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is a chemical tissue-destroying agent used as a highly concentrated solution for wart management. While available and efficient, it is difficult to handle as the solution spreads to tissue surrounding the wart causing pain and burning. Hence, we developed a new polymer-based gel of high TCA content (100% w/v). Gels were formed successfully as hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) and chitosan were used to impart viscosity and bioadhesion. Formulae of different concentrations were tested for their physical properties, and the optimal formulation was selected for clinical evaluation. A combination of 3% HEC and 2% chitosan provided optimal viscosity and limited water content and have acceptable stability. The efficacy and safety of the biweekly application of TCA gel were evaluated in 30 patients. The clinical study revealed gel's efficacy and tolerability; half of the patients showed a complete cure, and 90% showed improvement within 6 weeks. Only 10-12% of the patients reported side effects. In summary, transforming TCA solution into a gel enabled its application and handling in a practical manner by physicians and patients alike, while maintaining its efficacy as a tissue-destroying agent. Moreover, it is economic and easy to apply, rendering it a promising formulation for similar conditions requiring controlled tissue ablation.

Abstract
Leveraging sustainable packaging resources in the circular economy framework has gained significant attention in recent years as a means of minimizing waste and mitigating the negative environmental impact of packaging materials. In line with this progression, bio-based hydrogels are being explored for their potential application in a variety of fields including food packaging. Hydrogels are three-dimensional, hydrophilic networks composed of a variety of polymeric materials linked by chemical (covalent bonds) or physical (non-covalent interactions) cross-linking. The unique hydrophilic nature of hydrogels provides a promising solution for food packaging systems, specifically in regulating moisture levels and serving as carriers for bioactive substances, which can greatly affect the shelf life of food products. In essence, the synthesis of cellulose-based hydrogels (CBHs) from cellulose and its derivatives has resulted in hydrogels with several appealing features such as flexibility, water absorption, swelling capacity, biocompatibility, biodegradability, stimuli sensitivity, and cost-effectiveness. Therefore, this review provides an overview of the most recent trends and applications of CBHs in the food packaging sector including CBH sources, processing methods, and crosslinking methods for developing hydrogels through physical, chemical, and polymerization. Finally, the recent advancements in CBHs, which are being utilized as hydrogel films, coatings, and indicators for food packaging applications, are discussed in detail. These developments have great potential in creating sustainable packaging systems.

Abstract
Chronic wounds are a major concern for global health, affecting millions of individuals worldwide. As their occurrence is correlated with age and age-related comorbidities, their incidence in the population is set to increase in the forthcoming years. This burden is further worsened by the rise of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), which causes wound infections that are increasingly hard to treat with current antibiotics. Antimicrobial bionanocomposites are an emerging class of materials that combine the biocompatibility and tissue-mimicking properties of biomacromolecules with the antimicrobial activity of metal or metal oxide nanoparticles. Among these nanostructured agents, zinc oxide (ZnO) is one of the most promising for its microbicidal effects and its anti-inflammatory properties, and as a source of essential zinc ions. This review analyses the most recent developments in the field of nano-ZnO–bionanocomposite (nZnO-BNC) materials—mainly in the form of films, but also hydrogel or electrospun bandages—from the different preparation techniques to their properties and antibacterial and wound-healing performances. The effect of nanostructured ZnO on the mechanical, water and gas barrier, swelling, optical, thermal, water affinity, and drug-release properties are examined and linked to the preparation methods. Antimicrobial assays over a wide range of bacterial strains are extensively surveyed, and wound-healing studies are finally considered to provide a comprehensive assessment framework. While early results are promising, a systematic and standardised testing procedure for the comparison of antibacterial properties is still lacking, partly because of a not-yet fully understood antimicrobial mechanism. This work, therefore, allowed, on one hand, the determination of the best strategies for the design, engineering, and application of n-ZnO-BNC, and, on the other hand, the identification of the current challenges and opportunities for future research.

Abstract
For food packaging, a novel composite film was prepared by solution casting method using hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC), carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS), and zinc oxide nanoparticles as raw materials. The composite film successfully compounded the nanoparticles, as deduced by spectroscopy, crystallography and morphology observation. The addition of CMCS and ZnO enhanced the solvent resistance (the water solubility of the composite film was reduced by 94.3 %) and UV shielding ability (the UV shielding capacity of the composite film was increased by 45.73 %) of the composite film, thus improving the application prospects of the composite film in water-rich foods. In addition, the synergistic effect of CMCS and ZnO helped the composite film to efficiently inhibit the pathogenic bacteria Listeria monocytogenes and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (rate of inhibition>99.99 %) in food. The addition of CMCS and ZnO also significantly improved the elasticity (improve 494.34 %) and maximum load capacity (improve 142.24 %) of the composite film.

Abstract
Bacterial infection has become one of the major threats to human health all over the world, and the development and application of antibacterial materials has drawn great attention. Based on the Schiff-base structure, ZnONPs@ACFs are obtained by loading zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) on amino cellulose fibers (ACFs) in-situ through the coordination of amino groups with metal ions. The results of FT-IR, XRD and UV-vis demonstrate that ZnONPs are successfully loaded and uniformly dispersed on ACF surface, and the ACFs maintain intact morphology observed by SEM. Furthermore, the zero-span tensile strength of ZnONPs@ACFs is 66.48 N/cm (ROL: 24.98 N/cm/s) under the optimum conditions, which indicates that ZnONPs@ACFs have a certain strength and can be used to make antibacterial sheet materials via paper-making wet-forming process. Accordingly, the ZnONPs@ACF composites show inhibition zones of 4.95 mm and 1.10 mm against E. coli and S. aureus, respectively. The new cellulose-based antibacterial materials demonstrate potential applications in the field of food packaging and biological medicine etc.

Abstract
Food packaging plays a vital role in protecting food products from environmental damage and preventing contamination from microorganisms. Conventional food packaging made of plastics produced from unrenewable fossil resources is hard to degrade and poses a negative impact on environmental sustainability. Natural biopolymers are attracting interest for reducing environmental problems to achieve a sustainable society, because of their abundance, biocompatibility, biodegradability, chemical stability, and non-toxicity. Active packaging systems composed of these biopolymers and biopolymer-based composites go beyond simply acting as a barrier to maintain food quality. This review provides a comprehensive overview of natural biopolymer materials used as matrices for food packaging. The antioxidant, water barrier, and oxygen barrier properties of these composites are compared and discussed. Furthermore, biopolymer-based composites integrated with antimicrobial agents-such as inorganic nanostructures and natural products-are reviewed, and the related mechanisms are discussed in terms of antimicrobial function. In summary, composites used for active food packaging systems can inhibit microbial growth and maintain food quality.

Abstract
Packaging plays an important role in food quality and safety, especially regarding waste and spoilage reduction. The main drawback is that the packaging industry is among the ones that is highly dependent on plastic usage. New alternatives to conventional plastic packaging such as biopolymers-based type are mandatory. Examples are cellulose films and its derivatives. These are among the most used options in the food packaging due to their unique characteristics, such as biocompatibility, environmental sustainability, low price, mechanical properties, and biodegradability. Emerging concepts such as active and intelligent packaging provides new solutions for an extending shelf-life, and it fights some limitations of cellulose films and improves the properties of the packaging. This article reviews the available cellulose polymers and derivatives that are used as sustainable alternatives for food packaging regarding their properties, characteristics, and functionalization towards active properties enhancement. In this way, several types of films that are prepared with cellulose and their derivatives, incorporating antimicrobial and antioxidant compounds, are herein described, and discussed.

Abstract
Inorganic nanoparticles (NPs) and natural antioxidant compounds are an emerging trend in the food industry. Incorporating these substances in biobased and biodegradable matrices as polysaccharides (e.g., starch, cellulose, and chitosan) and proteins has highlighted the potential in active food packaging applications due to more significant antimicrobial, antioxidant, UV blocking, oxygen scavenging, water vapor permeability effects, and low environmental impact. In recent years, the migration of metal NPs and metal oxides in food contact packaging and their toxicological potential have raised concerns about the safety of the nanomaterials. In this review, we provide a comprehensive overview of the main biobased and biodegradable polymer nanocomposites, inorganic NPs, natural antioxidants, and their potential use in active food packaging. The intrinsic properties of NPs and natural antioxidant actives in packaging materials are evaluated to extend shelf-life, safety, and food quality. Toxicological and safety aspects of inorganic NPs are highlighted to understand the current controversy on applying some nanomaterials in food packaging. The synergism of inorganic NPs and plant-derived natural antioxidant actives (e.g., vitamins, polyphenols, and carotenoids) and essential oils (EOs) potentiated the antibacterial and antioxidant properties of biodegradable nanocomposite films. Biodegradable packaging films based on green NPs-this is biosynthesized from plant extracts-showed suitable mechanical and barrier properties and had a lower environmental impact and offered efficient food protection. Furthermore, AgNPs and TiO2 NPs released metal ions from packaging into contents insufficiently to cause harm to human cells, which could be helpful to understanding critical gaps and provide progress in the packaging field.

Abstract
In this study, we developed gelatin-based films for active packaging with the ability to inhibit E. coli. We created these novel biodegradable gelatin-based films with a nisin-EDTA mix. FT-IR, TGA, and SEM analysis showed that nisin interacted with the gelatin by modifying its thermal stability and morphology. The use of nisin (2,500 IU/mL) with concentrations of Na-EDTA (1.052 M stock solution) distributed in the polymer matrix generated a significant decrease in the growth of E. coli when compared to the control. In freshly made films (t0), the growth of E. coli ATCC 25922 was reduced by approximately 3 logarithmic cycles. Two weeks after the films were made, a reduction in antimicrobial activity was observed in approximately 1, 1 and 3 logarithmic cycles of the films with 5%, 10% and 20% of the compound (nisin/Na-EDTA) distributed in the polymer matrix, respectively. This evidences an antimicrobial effect over time. Also, biodegradation tests showed that the films were completely degraded after 10 days. With all these results, an active and biodegradable packaging was successfully obtained to be potentially applied in perishable foods. These biodegradable, gelatin-based films are a versatile active packaging option. Further research on the barrier properties of these films is needed.

Abstract
The dependency on nonbiodegradable-based food packaging, increase in population growth, and persistent environmental problems are some of the driving forces in considering the development of biodegradable food packaging. This effort of green packaging has the potential to solve issues on plastic wastes through the combination of biodegradable composite-based food packaging with plant extracts, nanomaterials, or other types of polymer. Modified biodegradable materials have provided numerous alternatives for producing green packaging with mechanical strength, thermal stability, and barrier performance that are comparable to the conventional food packaging. To the best of our knowledge, the performance of nonbiodegradable and biodegradable composites as food packaging in terms of the above properties has not yet been reviewed. In this context, the capability of biodegradable polymers to substitute the nonbiodegradable polymers was emphasized to enhance the packaging biodegradation while retaining the mechanical strength, thermal stability, barrier properties, and antioxidant and antimicrobial or antibacterial activity. These are the ultimate goal in the food industry. This review will impart useful information on the properties of food packaging developed from different polymers and future outlook toward the development of green food packaging.

Abstract
ZnO is one of the most important industrial metal oxide semiconductors. However, in order to fully realise its potential, the electronic structure of ZnO has to be modified to better fit the needs of specific fields. Recent studies demonstrated that reactive magnetron sputtering under Zn-rich conditions promotes the formation of intrinsic ZnO defects and allows the deposition of metallic Zn phase-rich ZnO films. In photocatalytic efficiency tests these films were superior to traditional ZnO oxide, therefore, the purposeful formation of intrinsic ZnO defects, namely Zn interstitials and oxygen vacancies, can be considered as advantageous self-doping. Considering that such self-doped ZnO remains a semiconductor, the natural question is if it is possible to further improve its properties by adding extrinsic dopants. Accordingly, in the current study, the metallic Zn phase-rich ZnO oxide film formation process (reactive magnetron sputtering) was supplemented by simultaneous sputtering of copper or carbon. Effects of the selected dopants on the structure of self-doped ZnO were investigated by X-ray diffractometer, scanning electron microscope, X-ray photoelectron spectroscope and photoluminescence techniques. Meanwhile, its effect on photocatalytic activity was estimated by visible light activated bleaching of Methylene Blue. It was observed that both dopants modify the microstructure of the films, but only carbon has a positive effect on photocatalytic efficiency.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Onychomycosis is defined as infection caused by nondermatophytic molds and yeasts: tinea unguium is caused by dermatophytes. PURPOSE Within this study, hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) as an important non-ionic, water-soluble cellulose derivative was chosen to develop formulations containing tea tree oil as active antifungal agent were developed and evaluated for their potential in the treatment of onychomycosis. METHODS Two polymeric films based on HEC (HEC-B-04 and HEC-E-10) were obtained by solvent evaporation method and characterized in terms of appearance, disintegration, stickiness, elongation, rheological behavior and adhesiveness. Moreover, different strains of dermatophytes such as Trichophyton rubrum and yeasts as Candida albicans were treated with polymeric films containing tea tree oil (0.5 - 2 % v/v) in order to determine their antifungal potential by the inhibition zone assay. RESULTS HEC-B-04 and HEC-E-10 were investigated by SEM measurements resulting in confluent surface morphology. HEC-B-04 and HEC-E-10 showed disintegration after 32.7 min and 34.0 min, respectively. Furthermore, HEC-E-10 revealed a moisture index of 1.74 and underpinned adhesive properties in terms of required detachment force with 4.86 N. HEC-E-10 pointed to the most antifungal one among the others against Trichophyton rubrum and Candida albicans. CONCLUSION Taking these findings in consideration, promising adhesive onychial formulations were developed as forthcoming approach in treatment of nail infections.

Abstract
The demand for more healthy foods with longer shelf life has been growing. Food packaging as one of the main aspects of food industries plays a vital role in meeting this demand. Integration of nanotechnology with food packaging systems (FPSs) revealed promising promotion in foods’ shelf life by introducing novel FPSs. In this paper, common classification, functionalities, employed nanotechnologies, and the used biomaterials are discussed. According to our survey, FPSs are classified as active food packaging (AFP) and smart food packaging (SFP) systems. The functionality of both systems was manipulated by employing nanotechnologies, such as metal nanoparticles and nanoemulsions, and appropriate biomaterials like synthetic polymers and biomass-derived biomaterials. “Degradability and antibacterial” and “Indicating and scavenging” are the well-known functions for AFP and SFP, respectively. The main purpose is to make a multifunctional FPS to increase foods’ shelf life and produce environmentally friendly and smart packaging without any hazard to human life.

Abstract
Functionalization of polysaccharide-based packaging incorporating inorganic nanoparticles for food preservation is an active research area. This review summarizes the use of polysaccharide-based materials functionalized with inorganic nanoparticles (TiO2, ZnO, Ag, SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, Zr, MgO, halloysite, and montmorillonite) to develop hybrid packaging for fruit, vegetables, meat (lamb, minced, pork, and poultry), mushrooms, cheese, eggs, and Ginkgo biloba seeds preservation. Their effects on quality parameters and shelf life are also discussed. In general, treated fruit, vegetables, mushrooms, and G. biloba seeds markedly increased their shelf life without significant changes in their sensory attributes, associated with a slowdown effect in the ripening process (respiration rate) due to the excellent gas exchange and barrier properties that effectively prevented dehydration, weight loss, enzymatic browning, microbial infections by spoilage and foodborne pathogenic bacteria, and mildew apparition in comparison with uncoated or polysaccharide-coated samples. Similarly, hybrid packaging showed protective effects to preserve meat products, cheese, and eggs by preventing microbial infections and lipid peroxidation, extending the food product’s shelf life without changes in their sensory attributes. According to the evidence, polysaccharide-hybrid packaging can preserve the quality parameters of different food products. However, further studies are needed to guarantee the safe implementation of these organic–inorganic packaging materials in the food industry.

Abstract
Bisoprolol hemifumarate (BH) is an antihypertensive drug that is used as first-line treatment for chronic hypertension and angina pectoris. Our study was performed to enhance the transdermal delivery of BH, a hydrophilic drug active with high molecular weight, through differently prepared hydrogels. The synergistic effect of permeation enhancers and iontophoresis was investigated via both ex vivo and in vivo permeation studies. Ex vivo iontophoretic permeation studies were performed by using male albino Wistar rat skin. Cellosolve® hydrogel (F7) showed a 1.5-fold increase in Q180, Jss, and FER compared to F5 (lacking permeation enhancer). BH pharmacokinetic data were studied in human volunteers, following transdermal delivery of F7, using Phoresor® Unit II iontophoresis device, compared to conventional oral tablets. F7 showed 1.9- and 2-fold higher values of Cmax and AUC0–40, respectively compared to Concor® tablets, as well as a smaller Tmax (2.00 ± 2.00 h). The relative bioavailability of F7 was found to be 201.44%, relative to Concor® tablets, demonstrating the significantly enhanced transdermal permeation of BH from the selected hydrogel by iontophoresis, in human volunteers. Finally, results showed the successful utility of permeation enhancers combined with iontophoresis in significantly enhanced transdermal permeation of BH, despite its large molecular weight and hydrophilic nature. Therefore, this strategy could be employed as a successful alternative route of administration to conventional oral tablets.

Abstract
This paper reports the incorporation of SiO2-ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) into semi-refined iota carrageenan-based (SRIC) film as active food packaging. The dispersion of the nanoparticles was performed using a bead milling method and the films were prepared using the solution casting method. The incorporation of SiO2-ZnO NPs into SRIC films aims to provide multifunctional food packaging with enhanced water vapor barrier properties, UV-screening, and antimicrobial activity. The effect of the incorporation of SiO2 NPs, ZnO NPs, and the mixtures of SiO2-ZnO NPs varied in SiO2/ZnO ratios (SiO2-ZnO 1:1, 1:2, and 1:3) were investigated. The results showed that the tensile strength, water vapor barrier performance, UV-screening, and antimicrobial activity of the SRIC film were increased by the addition of either SiO2 or ZnO NPs alone. Interestingly, when the mixtures of SiO2-ZnO were incorporated, more significant improvement was observed. Also, the bio-degradability and solubility of all the SRIC films were confirmed. It was concluded that the SiO2-ZnO NPs incorporated into SRIC film provided multifunctional activities and acted as a promising active food packaging material.

Abstract
Nanoparticles of tungsten oxide (WO3) and zinc oxide (ZnO) enriched polyethylene sebacate (PES) nanocomposites were prepared through the coprecipitation process and condensation polymerization reaction. The obtained nano-sized particles of WO3 and ZnO, PES, and nanocomposites (WO3-PES NC and ZnO-PES NC) were investigated. The average molecular weight of the cured PES was measured by employing the gel permeation chromatography (GPC) technique. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra assured the formation of the polymeric nanocomposites.WO3 and ZnO nanoparticles supposed a condensed porous spherical phase found implanted in the polymer structure, as detected by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) methods. These nano-scale systems achieved an electrical activity based on the conductive nanoparticles embedded matrix as a result of the ion-ion interactions. The microbial influence of the nanocomposites was examined against pathogenic bacteria; Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Bacillus subtilis, and Fungi; Aspergillus niger, and Candidaalbicans. Results exhibited that these nanocomposites have antimicrobial effects from moderate to slightly high on bacteria and high on fungi which was confirmed by a clear zone of inhibition. This study contributes to the design of reasonable composites to be under evaluation for their catalytic effect.

Abstract
The wastage of food products is a major challenge for the food industry. In this regard, the use of edible films and coatings have gained much attention due to their ability to prevent the spoilage of the food products during handling, transport, and storage. This has effectively helped in extending the shelf-life of the food products. Among the various polymers, polysaccharides have been explored to develop edible films and coatings in the last decade. Such polymeric systems have shown great promise in microbial food safety applications. The inclusion of essential oils (EOs) within the polysaccharide matrices has further improved the functional properties of the edible films and coatings. The current review will discuss the different types of polysaccharides, EOs, methods of preparing edible films and coatings, and the characterization methods for the EO-loaded polysaccharide films. The mechanism of the antimicrobial activity of the EOs has also been discussed in brief.

Abstract
Green chemistry or in other words "green world" is referred to a sustainable environment using biocompatible, biodegradable, renewable, economical, and simple materials, and methods. Without any exaggeration, the exceptional chemical and physical properties of ZnO bionanocomposites beside various utilizations, make it vital materials in research and green chemistry field. Biocompatible ZnO nanoparticles with fascinating antimicrobial, physicochemical, as well as photocatalytic performance could be applied as a prominent candidate to reinforce diverse biopolymer matrixes, for instance, chitosan, starch, cellulose, gelatin, alginate, poly(hydroxyalkanoates), carrageenan, and so on. With a combination of advantageous properties of these materials, they could be illustrated specific utilizations in different areas. In this regard, the following context focuses on highlighting the recent achievements of this category of material on three important and widely used scopes: eco-friendly food packaging, biomedical specially wound dressings, and water remediation technologies.

Abstract
This study aims to develop scaffold for transdermal drug delivery method (TDDM) using electrospinning technique from polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC). The fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) loaded on ethosomes (FITC@Eth) was used as a drug model. The prepared PVA/HEC/FITC@Eth scaffold was characterized via scanning electron microscope (SEM) that show morphology change by adding FITC@Eth. Also, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), mechanical properties, X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermal gravimetric (TGA) analysis show that the addition of FITC@Eth to PVA/HEC does not change the scaffold properties. Franz diffusion cells were used for in vitro skin permeation experiments using rat dorsal skins. The FITC@Eth penetration was better than that of free FITC due to the presence of ethosome which enhance the potential skin targeting. In conclusion, the prepared PVA/HEC/FITC@Eth scaffold can serve as a promising transdermal scaffold for sustained FITC release.
