Abstract
The widespread occurrence of nanoplastic (NP) pollution in the environment is a growing concern, and its presence poses a potential threat to cultured aquatic animals. Previously, we found that NPs can significantly affect the lipid metabolism of shrimp. However, relevant reports about the effects of increasing dietary lipid levels on NP toxicity are lacking. Therefore, we explored the effects of dietary supplementation with different lipid levels on the growth and lipid metabolism of Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei). We cultured L. vannamei at three dietary lipid levels (3 %, 6 %, and 9 %) and three NP concentrations (0, 1, and 3 mg/L) for 2 months. We evaluated the effects of lipid levels on growth indexes, hepatopancreas morphological structure, lipid metabolism-related enzyme activity, and gene expression of the shrimp. The results showed that as lipid intake increased, the survival rate, body weight growth rate, and hepatosomatic ratio of the shrimp increased while the feed conversion rate decreased. Additionally, the crude protein and crude lipid contents increased, whereas the moisture and ash contents did not change much. We found that the morphological structure of the hepatopancreas was seriously damaged in the 3 mg/L NPs and 3 % dietary lipid group. Finally, lipid metabolism-related enzyme activities and gene expression levels increased with increased dietary lipid levels. Together, these results suggest that increasing dietary lipid content can improve shrimp growth and alleviate lipid metabolism disorders caused by NPs. This study is the first to show that nutrition regulation can alleviate the toxicity of NPs, and it provides a theoretical basis for the green and healthy culture of L. vannamei.

Abstract
The limited tolerance of crustacean tissue physiology to a high-fat diet has captured the attention of researchers. Yet, investigations into the physiological response mechanisms of the crustacean intestinal barrier system to a high-fat diet are progressing slowly. Elucidating potential physiological mechanisms and determining the precise regulatory targets would be of great physiological and nutritional significance. This study established a high-fat diet-induced intestinal barrier damage model in Macrobrachium rosenbergii, and systematically investigated the functions of gut microbiota and its functional metabolites. The study achieved this by monitoring phenotypic indicators, conducting 16S rDNA sequencing, targeted metabolomics, and in vitro anaerobic fermentation of intestinal contents. Feeding prawns with control and high-fat diets for 8 weeks, the lipid level of 7 % in the CON diet and 12 % in the HF diet. Results showed that high-fat intake impaired the intestinal epithelial cells, intestinal barrier structure, and permeability of M. rosenbergii, activated the tight junction signaling pathway inhibiting factor NF-κB transcription factor Relish/myosin light chain kinase (MLCK), and suppressed the expression of downstream tight junction proteins zona occludens protein 1 (ZO-1) and Claudin. High-fat intake resulted in a significant increase in abundance of Aeromonas, Enterobacter, and Clostridium sensu stricto 3 genera, while Lactobacillus, Lactococcus, Bacteroides, and Ruminococcaceae UCG-010 genera were significantly decreased. Targeted metabolomics results of bile acids and short-chain fatty acids in intestinal contents and in vitro anaerobic fermentation products showed a marked rise in the abundance of DCA, 12-KetoLCA, 7,12-diketoLCA, and Isovaleric acid, and a significant reduction in the abundance of HDCA, CDCA, and Acetate in the HF group. Pearson correlation analysis revealed a substantial correlation between various genera (Clostridium sensu stricto 3, Lactobacillus, Bacteroides) and secondary metabolites (DCA, HDCA, 12-KetoLCA, Acetate), and the latter was significantly correlated with intestinal barrier function related genes (Relish, ZO-1, MLCK, vitamin D receptor, and ecdysone receptor). These findings indicate that gut microorganisms and their specific bile acids and short-chain fatty acid secondary metabolites play a crucial role in the process of high-fat-induced intestinal barrier damage of M. rosenbergii. Moreover, identifying and targeting these factors could facilitate precise regulation of high-fat nutrition for crustaceans.

Abstract
This study investigated the effects of substituting fish meal (FM) with black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) meal (BSM) on the growth performance, body composition, immune response, and antioxidant enzyme activity of juvenile redclaw crayfish (Cherax quadricarinatus). Four isonitrogenous (41%) and isolipidic (11%) diets (i.e., FM substitutes) were formulated from BSM prepared using larvae that were fed soybean meal (BSM-S), fishery byproducts (BSM-F), or pitaya (BSM-P). The experimental diets were fed twice daily to triplicate groups of juvenile redclaw crayfish (0.56 ± 0.04 g). After the feed trial, the FM and BSM-F groups exhibited significantly lower feed conversion ratios and significantly higher weight gain; specific growth rates; and concentrations of saturated fatty acids, highly unsaturated fatty acids, eicosapentaenoic acid, and docosahexaenoic acid in the muscle. Among the tested groups, the BSM-F group exhibited significantly enhanced immune responses and increased antioxidant enzyme activity (i.e., superoxide dismutase, phenoloxidase, and glutathione peroxidase); the BSM-P group exhibited a significantly higher feed intake and hepatopancreatic index; and the FM group exhibited a significantly higher muscle body index and apparent digestibility for the dry matter of crude protein. The findings indicate that the juvenile redclaw crayfish fed BSM-F achieved the highest weight gain among the groups.

Abstract
Yeast is a health-promoting and bio-therapeutic probiotic that is commonly used in aquaculture. Rhodotorula paludigena CM33 can accumulate amounts of intracellular carotenoids and lipid, which are regarded as nutritionally beneficial compounds in various aspects. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of different levels of R. paludigena CM33 (RD) incorporated in a dietary composition at 0% (control), 1% (1% RD), 2% (2% RD), and 5% (5% RD) on the growth of shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei), their immune-related gene expression, intestinal health, resistance to Vibrio parahaemolyticus (VPAHPND) infection, and meat composition. The results showed significant improvements in the specific growth rate, weight gain, and survival of shrimp fed with 1% RD, 2% RD, and 5% RD, which were higher than the control group after 4 weeks of administration. The administration of 5% RD group resulted in a decrease in cumulative mortality upon VPAHPND challenge when compared to the control group. Furthermore, the expression levels of immune-responsive genes, including proPO system (prophenoloxidase-2: PO2), antioxidant enzyme (superoxide dismutase: SOD, glutathione peroxidase: GPX, and catalase: CAT), JAK/STAT pathway (signal transducer and activator of transcription: STAT, gamma interferon inducible lysosomal thiol reductase: GILT), IMD pathway (inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa-B kinase subunit beta and epsilon: IKKb and IKKe), and Toll pathway (Lysozyme) genes, were up-regulated in the 5% RD group. In the context of microbiota, microbiome analysis revealed that the main phyla in shrimp intestines were Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, Bacteroidota, Campilobacterota, Actinobacteriota, and Verrucomicrobiota. At the genus level, Vibrio was found to be reduced in the 5% RD group, whereas the abundance of potentially beneficial bacteria Bifidobacterium was increased. The 5% RD group showed a significant increase in the levels of crude protein and crude lipid, both of which are essential nutritious components. Our results show the capability of R. paludigena CM33 as a probiotic supplement in shrimp feed in improving growth, antimicrobial responses against VPAHPND, and meat quality by increasing protein and lipid content in shrimp.

Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the dietary riboflavin requirement and its effects on growth performance, feed utilization, innate immunity, and diet digestibility of Litopenaeus vannamei. A riboflavin-free basal diet (R0) was formulated as a control, and six other diets were prepared by adding riboflavin of 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60 mg/kg to the basal diet (designated as R10, R20, R30, R40, R50, and R60, respectively). Quadruplicate groups of shrimp (initial average weight 0.17 ± 0.00 g) were fed the diets six times a day for 8 weeks. Weight gain, specific growth rate, and protein efficiency ratio were significantly increased by riboflavin (p < 0.05). The maximum values were observed in shrimp fed R40 diet. The highest activities of phenoloxidase, nitro blue tetrazolium, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase were observed in shrimp fed R40 diet. Lysozyme activity was significantly higher in shrimp fed R30 and R40 diets than that of shrimp fed R60 diet (p < 0.05). Intestinal villi were significantly longer in shrimp fed R50 and R60 diets compared to those of all other groups while the shortest villi were observed in R0 group (p < 0.05). Intestinal villi were clearly distinguished in shrimp fed higher levels of riboflavin compared to those of shrimp fed R0 and R10 diets. Apparent digestibility coefficients of dry matter and protein in diets were not significantly affected by riboflavin levels (p < 0.05). Whole-body proximate composition and hemolymph biochemical parameters were not significantly altered by dietary riboflavin (p < 0.05). Therefore, the results of this study indicate that riboflavin is essential to enhance growth performance, feed utilization, nonspecific immunity, and intestine morphology of shrimp. An optimal riboflavin requirement for the maximum growth of L. vannamei seems to be approximately 40.9 mg/kg diet.

Abstract
An 8-week feeding trial investigated the effect of Fishmeal (FM) replacement by soybean meal (SBM) and poultry by-product meal (PBM) in diets supplemented with DL-Met, MET-MET (AQUAVI®), Bacillus amyloliquefaciens CECT 5940 (ECOBIOL®) and their combinations on growth performance and health of juvenile Litopenaeus vannamei. A total of six experimental diets were formulated according to L. vannamei nutritional requirements. A total of 480 shrimp (0.30 ± 0.04 g) were randomly distributed into 24 tanks (4 repetitions/each diet, 20 shrimp/tank). Shrimp were fed with control diet (CD; 200 g/Kg fishmeal) and five diets with 50% FM replacement supplemented with different methionine sources, probiotic (B. amyloliquefaciens CECT 5940) and their combinations: D1 (0.13% DL-MET), D2 (0.06% MET-MET), D3 (0.19% MET-MET), D4 (0.13% DL-MET plus 0.10% B. amyloliquefaciens CECT 5940 and D5 (0.06% MET-MET plus 0.10% B. amyloliquefaciens CECT 5940). Shrimp fed D3 and D5 had significantly higher final, weekly weight gain, and final biomass compared to shrimp fed CD (p < 0.05). Shrimp fed D2 to D5 increased the hepatopancreas epithelial cell height (p < 0.05). Digestive enzymatic activities were significantly increased in shrimp hepatopancreas’ fed D3 (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, shrimp fed D1 had significant downregulation of immune-related genes (p < 0.05). Moreover, shrimp fed D3 and D5 increased the abundance of beneficial prokaryotic microorganisms such as Pseudoalteromonas and Demequina related to carbohydrate metabolism and immune stimulation. Also, shrimp fed D3 and D5 increased the abundance of beneficial eukaryotic microorganism as Aurantiochytrium and Aplanochytrium were related to eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) production which plays a role in growth promoting or boosting the immunity of aquatic organisms. Therefore, fishmeal could be partially substituted up to 50% by SBM and PBM in diets supplemented with 0.19% MET-MET (AQUAVI®) or 0.06% MET-MET (AQUAVI®) plus 0.10% B. amyloliquefaciens CECT 5940 (ECOBIOL®) and improve the productive performance, health, and immunity of white shrimp. Further research is necessary to investigate synergistic effects of amino acids and probiotics in farmed shrimp diets, as well as to evaluate how SBM and PBM influence the fatty acid composition of reduced fishmeal diets and shrimp muscle quality. Nevertheless, this information could be interesting to develop low fishmeal feeds for aquaculture without affecting the growth and welfare of aquatic organisms.

Abstract
The physiological processes involved in adaptation to osmotic pressure in euryhaline crustaceans are highly energy demanding, but the effects of dietary lipids (fat) on low salinity adaptations have not been well evaluated. In the present study, a total of 120 mud crabs (Scylla paramamosain, BW = 17.87 ± 1.49 g) were fed control and high-fat (HF) diets, at both medium salinity (23‰) and low salinity (4‰) for 6 wk, and each treatment had 3 replicates with each replicate containing 10 crabs. The results indicated that a HF diet significantly mitigated the reduction in survival rate, percent weight gain and feed efficiency induced by low salinity (P < 0.05). Low salinity lowered lipogenesis and activated lipolysis resulting in lipid depletion in the hepatopancreas of mud crabs (P < 0.05). Thus, HF diets enhanced the process of lipolysis to supply more energy. In the gills, low salinity and the HF diet increased the levels of mitochondrial biogenesis markers, the activity of mitochondrial complexes, and the expression levels of genes related to energy metabolism (P < 0.05). Consequently, the positive effects of the HF diet on energy metabolism in mud crabs at low salinity promoted osmotic pressure regulation. Specifically, significantly higher haemolymph osmotic pressure and inorganic ion content, as well as higher osmotic pressure regulatory enzyme activity in gills, and gene and protein expression levels of NaK-ATPase were observed in crabs fed the HF diet at low salinity (P < 0.05). In summary, high dietary lipid levels improved energy provision to facilitate mitochondrial biogenesis, which increased ATP provision for osmotic pressure regulation of mud crabs. This study also illustrates the importance of dietary lipid nutrition supplementation for low salinity adaptations in mud crabs.

Abstract
Lipids are essential nutrients for organisms, and high-fat feeds for shrimp may cause oxidative stress. This study evaluated the effects of feeding high fat in the diet on the growth, antioxidant, immunity, and liver fat accumulation of Macrobrachium rosenbergii post-larvae. Five groups with an initial body weight of 0.0084 ± 0.001 g were fed five isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets (47.01% crude protein and 18.40 kJ/g gross energy) containing 8%, 10%, 12%, 14% and 16% (named L8, L10, L12, L14 and L16) lipid for 8 weeks, respectively. The results showed that the weight gain rate (WGR) and specific growth rate (SGR) of L8 group were significantly higher than those of L10, L12, L14 and L16 group (P < 0.05), and the feed coefficient (FCR) of L8 group was significantly lower than that of other groups (P < 0.05). With the increase of dietary fat level, the content of MDA and the activity of SOD increased significantly, and the activities of T-AOC and CAT decreased significantly (P < 0.05). H&E staining clearly revealed the occurrence of hepatocyte swelling, hepatocyte vacuolization and nucleus displacement to the peripheral cell vacuolization in the L16 group, and hepatic lipid accumulation was further observed in the L14 and L16 group by Oil red O staining. In addition, high-fat diet significantly upregulated the expression of Dorsal, Relish and IκBα mRNA, and also upregulated the expression of fat synthesis-related genes FAS, ACC, DGAT and fat transport-related gene FABP (P < 0.05), and significantly downregulated the expression of fat metabolism-related genes AMPK and CPT-1 (P < 0.05) compared to that of the L8 group. In conclusion, this study showed that feeding a high-fat diet could induce oxidative stress, inhibit growth performance, alter antioxidant capacity, cause hepatic fat deposition and affect the immune system of M. rosenbergii post-larvae.

Abstract
As a new species in aquaculture, the lipid nutrition requirement for the juvenile redclaw crayfish Cherax quadricarinatus on a dietary basis on a practical formula needs to be evaluated accurately. In this study, the optimum dietary lipid level was explained by analyzing the growth performance, antioxidant state, lipid metabolism, and gut microbiota of C. quadricarinatus after an eight-week cultivation trial. Six diets with different soybean oil levels (named L0, L2, L4, L6, L8, and L10) were fed to C. quadricarinatus (11.39 ± 0.28 g). The results indicated that the specific growth rate and weight gain of crayfish fed the L4 and L6 diets were significantly higher than those of the other groups (P < 0.05). By the analysis of a second-order polynomial regression model according to growth performance (weight gain rate), the optimum lipid level in a practical diet for juvenile C. quadricarinatus was 9.67%. The survival, condition factor, and hepatosomatic index of crayfish were not significantly affected by dietary oil levels (P > 0.05). As the level of dietary lipids increased, the total antioxidant capacity and glutathione peroxidase activity in serum showed a tendency to rise and then fall and the enzyme activity was highest in crayfish fed the L6 diet. Gut lipase and pepsin activities showed the highest value in crayfish fed the L6 diet. There was no significant difference in acetyl-CoA carboxylase and carnitine palmitoyltransferase-1 contents in crayfish among all the groups (P > 0.05). The relative abundance of Proteobacteria in the phylum and Citrobacter in the genus showed a significant decrease in crayfish of the L10 diet, while the relative abundance of Firmicutes in the phylum markedly increased compared to that of the other groups (P < 0.05). In summary, the results indicated that the 10.39% (L6 diet) dietary lipid level could induce better growth performance, antioxidant ability, and digestive enzyme activity. Most of the fatty acid composition of muscle is not closely related to the fatty acid composition of the diet. Moreover, the composition and diversity of the gut microbiota of C. quadricarinatus were changed by high dietary lipid levels.

Abstract
To investigate the effects of dietary carbohydrate/lipid (CHO: L) ratios on non-specific immune responses, antioxidant capacity, and expression of TLR-MAPK/NF-κB signaling pathway-related genes of red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii). Four isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets containing different CHO: L ratios were formulated. The results showed that the group with a CHO: L ratio of 5.94 had better growth performance (P < 0.05). The highest T-AOC, CAT, and SOD activities and the lowest MDA content in hemolymph and hepatopancreas were observed in the group with a CHO: L ratio of 5.94 (P < 0.05). The lowest activities of ALT, AST, ACP, AKP, and ALB in the hemolymph were observed in CHO: L ratio 5.94 group (P < 0.05), while the highest LZM activity, TP, and GLB content were observed in CHO: L 5.94 group (P < 0.05). The highest mRNA expression levels of tlr3, myd88, and mapk3, and the lowest mRNA expression levels of nf-kb α, nf-kb β, nf-kb p105, and traf6 were observed in the CHO: L of 5.94 group (P < 0.05). The highest mRNA expression levels of immune-related genes were observed in the CHO: L of 5.94 group (P < 0.05). Overall, these results indicated that the optimum dietary CHO: L ratio is vital in promoting growth and enhancing antioxidants and immunity to maintain red swamp crayfish's intestinal and hepatopancreas health status. In conclusion, the diets with a CHO:L ratio of 5.94 (approximately 36.23% carbohydrate and 6.10% lipid) is optimal for juvenile red swamp crayfish's physiological condition and health status.

Abstract
The present study focuses on the immunity and growth of Penaeus indicus fed with varying protein levels (25%, 30%, and 35%) in a biofloc based rearing system. A 120 days growth trial was carried out using juvenile Penaeus indicus (0.71 ± 0.01) with dietary protein level, 25% (LP), 30% (MP), and 35% (HP), and a control diet-fed with 35% acted as control group resulting in 4 treatments each with four replicates and were randomly assigned 16 tank units (7500 L each). A combination of different carbon sources (molasses, wheat flour, and rice bran in 2:1:1 ratio), yeast and a probiotic (Bacillus sp.) consortium were used for the development of biofloc. At the end of the trial, the growth parameters of shrimps viz., initial weight, feed conversion ratio (FCR), and daily growth coefficient (DGC) were computed. The results indicated that shrimp fed with medium (30%) protein (MP) diet recorded significantly (P < 0.05) improved growth performance compared to high protein fed group (35%) and low protein (25%) fed group (LP) in a biofloc system and control group (35%). The immunological parameters such as hemagglutination activity (HA) assay, serum protein, lysozyme, phenol oxidase (PO), and inhibition of superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity were observed in serum, plasma, and hemocyte lysate supernatant (HLS). The HA activity, PO activity in plasma was found to be higher in high protein fed animals, whereas medium protein resulted in enhanced PO activity in serum. Similarly, lysozyme and SOD were inhibited well in high protein fed animals compared to the low protein fed group. The vital immune genes's mRNA profiling showed a potential rise in the expressional pattern in MP and HP treatments compared to LP and control. BGBP (beta-1,3-glucan binding protein) and hemocyanin mRNA transcript levels were highly upregulated in the HP (5 fold) and moderately expressed in MP (2 fold) and LP (1-2 fold). The transcripts of peroxinectin, antimicrobial peptides like crustin showed significant upregulation in HP followed by in MP and LP and control. Likewise, other immune genes, such as SOD, prophenoloxidase (proPO), showed a similar trend in a marginal way, indicating immunomodulation in the biofloc groups. This study suggested that biofloc with high protein (35%) supplementation can substantially enhance the immune response of shrimps, although medium protein level (30%) is optimum for improving the survival, growth, and in turn economic return in Indian white shrimp.

Abstract
The increasing market demand for decapods has led to a considerable interest in cultivating decapod species at a larger scale. Following the development of hatchery technologies, most research has focused on the development of formulated feeds for commercially farmed decapods once they enter the juvenile stages. The use of formulated feed for decapods at a commercial scale is still in the early stages. This is probably because of the unique feeding behavior that decapods possess: being robust, slow feeders and bottom dwellers, their feeding preferences change during the transition from pelagic larvae to benthic juveniles as their digestive systems develop and become more complex. The current practice of decapod aquaculture involves the provision of juveniles with food such as natural diet, live feed, and formulated feed. Knowledge of nutrient requirements enables diets to be better formulated. By manipulating the levels of proteins and lipids, a formulated feed can be expected to lead to optimal growth in decapods. At the same time, the pellet's physical characteristics are important factors to be considered upon formulating commercially farmed decapod feeds, considering the unique feeding behavior of the decapod. However, most published studies on decapod nutrition lack data on the physical characteristics of the feed types. Thus, it is difficult to establish a standard feed formulation that focuses on the physical pellet properties. Moreover, careful consideration must be given to the feeding behavior of species, as decapods are known as bottom feeders and are robust in terms of handling feed. Information on the pellet forms, diet composition, and unique feeding behaviors in commercially farmed decapods is gathered to suggest potential better formulated diets that can optimize growth and reproduction. Thus, the purpose of this review is to summarize the information that has been published to date and to come up with suggestions on ways to improve the feed formulation in decapods that comply with their feeding behavior and nutrient requirements. Further research is needed to explore the potential of the pelleted feed at the adult stage so the decapod can take full advantage of the nutrients present in the pellets.

Abstract
This work aimed to evaluate Nannochloropsis spp. as feed additive in the diet of Pacific white shrimp for their effect on midgut microbiology, thermal shock resistance and immunological parameters. Initially, the digestibility of the microalgae meal was assessed, and the apparent digestibility coefficient (ADC) was determined. The ADC was, in general, high in lipids (78.88%) and eicosapentaenoic fatty acid (73.86%). Then, Nannochloropsis spp. were included in diets at four levels (0, 0.5, 1 and 2% inclusion). The shrimp were reared in 500 L clear water tanks containing 20 shrimp per tank with an initial weight of 6.05 ± 0.06 g and fed four times a day. Shrimp fed with supplemented diets containing Nannochloropsis spp. (0.5 and 2%) presented higher resistance to thermal shock when compared to the non-supplemented group (control). Shrimp fed with 1 and 2% of algae inclusion had a higher production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) when compared to other treatments. No statistical difference was observed in the immunological parameters and microbiology of the intestinal tract. Thus, the inclusion of Nannochloropsis spp. in shrimp diets at 0.5 and 2% levels increases resistance to thermal shock and ROS production in shrimp.

Abstract
Desiccation is a commonly stressful situation experienced by sea cucumber during transportation without/less water. The present study was conducted to investigate the effects of aerial exposure on the survival, oxidative damage, antioxidant capacity, immune-related response and gene expression of Apostichopus japonicus at different low temperatures. After acclimation, sea cucumbers were randomly divided into 3 groups, which were exposed to 5 °C, 10 °C and 15 °C in the closed laboratory condition, respectively. Each group has three parallel replicates. During the experiment, coelomic fluid and respiratory tree of A. japonicus were sampled at the time points of 0, 3, 6, 12, 24 and 48 h post-desiccation for further analysis. The results showed that the survival rates of sea cucumber significantly decreased as time prolonged, and those of 5 °C at 6-48 h of desiccation were significantly higher than 15 °C. Most oxidative damage parameters (e.g., O2- production, MDA, LPO and PC contents) significant increased after 6-12 h of desiccation. Antioxidant enzyme activities and T-AOC in coelomic fluid firstly increased and then decreased during aerial exposure, indicating that sea cucumber could adjust antioxidant defense to reduce the concentrations of ROS and MDA as a strategy for protecting organisms from oxidative damage in the early stage (0-6 h) of desiccation. The relative expression levels of Hsp90 and Hsp70 mRNA in respiratory tree of sea cucumber exhibited similar rise-fall trends with antioxidant parameters, while immune enzyme activities of ACP, AKP, LSZ and T-NOS, and gene expression of TLR, Rel and p105 all significantly decreased as time prolonged. Overall, low temperature postponed the process of ROS formation and the depression of antioxidant and non-specific immune responses of sea cucumber within a certain extent, which implied that it might play a positive role in improvement of desiccation tolerance. This study not only contribute to better understand the adaption mechanisms of A. japonicus to desiccation stress, but also provide valuable information for sea cucumber culture and transportation.

Abstract
An 8-week feeding trial was conducted to investigate the effects of partial replacement of fish meal by soy protein concentrate (SPC) on the growth performance, immune responses, intestine morphology and relation gene expression of intestinal inflammation for juvenile hybrid grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus ♀ × Epinephelus lanceolatus ♂) (initial weight 12.5 ± 0.00 g). Eight isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets (48.61% protein and 11.17% lipid) were formulated by replacing 0% (the control), 11%, 22%, 33%, 44%, 55%, 66%, and 77% of fish meal (FM) with SPC, respectively (the eight dietary be named FM, S11, S22, S33, S44, S55, S66, and S77, respectively). With the replacement level increased, the final body weight, weight gain ratio (WGR), specific growth rate (SGR), and survival rate of fish were significantly decreased (P < 0.05) compared with the group FM. By contrast, the feed conversion ratio (FCR) of fish was significantly increased (P < 0.05) when the replacement level up to 44%. Partial FM replacement by SPC (ranging from 11% to 77%) substantially reduced (P < 0.05) the serum total protein, albumin, and total cholesterol contents compared with the group FM. Liver total superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, catalase activities, and total antioxidant capacity showed the same trend of gradual increase first and then decrease. Their highest values were found in the replacement levels of 55%, 33%, 22%, and 55% and were significantly higher (P < 0.05) than the control group. The lowest malondialdehyde content was observed in group S77 and was significantly lower (P < 0.05) than that of the control group. The complements C3 and C4 contents of fish fed with experimental diets (replacement level ranged from 11% to 66%) were significantly higher (P < 0.05) than the group FM. The liver lysozyme activity of the control group was the lowest and was significantly lower than that of other dietary treatments (P < 0.05). Villus length and muscle thickness in the intestine of fish were significantly lower (P < 0.05) than other groups when the replacement level exceeded 44%. With dietary replacement levels increased, the TLR22, MyD88, p65, pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, TNF-α, IL-12P40 and INF-γ) and anti-inflammatory cytokines (TGF-β, IL-10, epinecidin, MHCIIβ and hepcidin) mRNA levels in the proximal intestine were significantly up-regulated (P < 0.05). The TLR22, MyD88, p65, pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, TNF-α, IL-12P40 and INF-γ) and anti-inflammatory cytokines (TGF-β, IL-10, MHCIIβ and hepcidin) mRNA levels in the mid intestine were significantly up-regulated (P < 0.05). The mRNA levels of TLR22, anti-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, TNF-α, IL-12P40, INF-γ) and anti-inflammatory cytokines (TGF-β, IL-10, epinecidin, MHCIIβ and hepcidin) in the distal intestine were significantly down-regulated (P < 0.05). The mRNA expression of MyD88 and p65 mRNA were showed a tend increased first and then decreased, and the highest values were observed in group S33 and S55 (P < 0.05), respectively. Based on the present work, the correlation between WGR and FM replacement level with SPC was described using the broken-line model, which estimated the optimum FM replacement to 37.23% for juvenile hybrid grouper dietary.

Abstract
A 56-day feeding trial was done to investigate the interactive effects of cholesterol (CHO) and phospholipids (PL) on the growth performance, immune response, expression of immune-related genes, and resistance against Vibrio alginolyticus of freshwater cultured white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei). A 3 × 3 experimental design was conducted with nine experimental diets containing three levels of CHO (0, 0.2%, and 0.4%) and three levels of PL (0, 2%, and 4%). The results indicated that the growth performance significantly (P < 0.05) increased with the increase in dietary CHO levels. Interactive effects between dietary CHO and PL on the growth parameters were not observed. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) and lysozyme activities were also significantly affected by dietary CHO levels. Furthermore, the interaction between these two additives was only detected in SOD activity. Shrimp fed experimental diet with CHO and PL supplementation showed better tolerance against Vibrio alginolyticus compared to the control, interactive effects (P < 0.05) were also detected on these two factors. The expression of immune deficiency (IMD) and lysozyme mRNA was up-regulated in shrimp fed diets with CHO and PL. The expression level of Toll-like receptor mRNA directly reflected the dietary CHO levels, which was not affected by dietary PL. The interaction between dietary CHO and PL was shown as the significant factor (P < 0.05) both in the expression of IMD and lysozyme mRNA, which indicated that different dietary levels of CHO and PL could strongly affect expression levels of some immune-relevant genes of the juvenile freshwater cultured L. vannamei.

Abstract
A 5-weeks experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of deoxynivalenol on growth performance, histological morphology, anti-oxidative ability and immune capacity of Litopenaeus vannamei. White shrimp (mean initial weight 1.02 g) were fed seven isonitrogenous diets, Diet 1 as the control, Diet 2-4 was supplemented with grade levels (250, 500 and 1000 μg kg-1) of deoxynivalenol (DON), Diet 5-7 were formulated to contain graded levels of contaminated wheat flour. Each diet was assigned to four tanks (30 shrimp). The weight gain was decreased with the increasing dietary DON levels, survival was lower in shrimp fed high levels of DON-contaminated wheat flour (P < 0.05). Feed intake and feed conversion ratio did not show any difference among all the groups. After 4 h hypoxia stress, survival of shrimp was decreased in shrimp fed high levels of DON-contaminated wheat flour (P < 0.05). Total antioxidant capacity in hepatopancreas was higher in shrimp fed the control diet, glutathione S-transferase (GST) activity were higher in shrimp fed the Diet 3 and Diet 6, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity was higher in shrimp fed the highest dietary DON (Diet 4), while the gene expression of SOD and GPx were lower in shrimp fed the Diet 3-7. The expression of HSP70, Toll 1 and Dorsal were higher in shrimp fed the Diet 2, the expression of AKT were higher in shrimp fed the Diet 1 and Diet 2. The expression of proPO, LGBP and PPAF were higher in shrimp fed the Diet 4 and Diet 7. The H&E stain indicated intestinal mucosal folds were impaired in shrimp fed the Diet 3-7, and B cells number and diameters of the hepatopancreas tubules were affected by DON levels, and transmission electron microscope (TEM) analysis indicated the apopotosis occurs in intestinal epithelial cell of shrimp fed the Diet 2-7. Based on the present results, the safety level of DON for white shrimp should below 0.5 ppm, which was much less than the European Communities recommendation values for aquatic animals (5 ppm). High level of DON would damage the cell structural and affect the NF-κB pathway and proPO system of shrimp.

Abstract
An 8-week feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary yeast hydrolysate and brewer's yeast supplementation on growth, immune-related genes expression and ammonia nitrogen stress resistance of Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei). Three isonitrogenous and isolipidic practical diets were formulated to contain 0% (control diet), 1% yeast hydrolysate and 1% brewer's yeast, respectively. 360 juvenile L. vannamei with an initial weight (0.88 ± 0.01 g) was randomly divided into 3 treatments in four replicates (30 shrimp per replicate). The results indicated that shrimp fed the diet containing 1% yeast hydrolysate had a significantly higher weight gain (WG), and specific growth rate (SGR) than that fed the control diet, and the lowest feed conversion ratio (FCR) was occurred in the 1% yeast hydrolysate supplementation group. Proximate composition in whole body and muscle among all treatments was not significantly influenced by the dietary yeast hydrolysate or brewer's yeast supplementation. The challenge test with ammonia nitrogen showed that lower cumulative survival was observed in those fed the control diet, and the highest cumulative survival was occurred at shrimp fed the 1% yeast hydrolysate supplementation. Shrimp fed the control diet had higher inflammation-related genes expression levels of tnf-α and il-1β in the intestine than those fed the diets supplemented with 1% yeast hydrolysate or 1% brewer's yeast, however, there was no significant difference in expression level of alp in intestine among all treatments. The relative expression levels of mTOR signal pathway genes (eif4ebp, eif4e1a, eif4e2 and p70s6k) were significantly up-regulated in the shrimp fed the diets supplemented with 1% yeast hydrolysate, and the lowest gene expression levels of eif4ebp, eif4e1a, eif4e2 and p70s6k in the intestine were occurred at the control diet. The highest expression levels of the immune-related genes (dorsal, relish, and proPO) in the intestine were observed at shrimp fed the 1% yeast hydrolysate supplementation, and the lowest expression levels of these genes were occurred at shrimp fed the control diet, however, there was no significant difference in gene expression of lysozyme among all treatments. The expression levels of penaeidin3a, crustin, proPO, and IMD in the hepatopancreas were significantly influenced by the dietary yeast hydrolysate, brewer's yeast or no yeast product supplementation, shrimp fed the 1% yeast hydrolysate supplementation had higher expression levels of these genes than those fed the control diet. The present study indicated that dietary 1% yeast hydrolysate or brewer's yeast supplementation could improve growth performance, enhance innate immunity, and strengthen resistance of ammonia nitrogen stress, and dietary 1% yeast hydrolysate supplementation provides better immunostimulatory effects than brewer's yeast of L. vannamei.

Abstract
In the present study, the oxidative stress and antioxidant response in hepatopancreas of the black tiger shrimp Penaeus monodon under desiccation stress were studied, such as activities of antioxidant enzymes (SOD, CAT, GPx and POD), oxidative damage to lipid and protein which indexed by contents of LPO, MDA, protein carbonyl (PC) and ROS production, and the expression of HSP70 and ferritin gene. The duration of desiccation significantly influenced the shrimp survival, and the mortality rates were 10% and 55.0% after desiccation 0.5 h and 3 h, respectively. Compared with the control group, after exposed to desiccation stress, the content of LPO, MDA, PC and ROS production in hepatopancreas increased significantly. SOD, CAT and POD activity in hepatopancreas increased significantly at 0.5 h, but decreased markedly at 1 h. GPx activity in hepatopancreas increased significantly at 0.5 h and 1 h, then decreased significantly at 3 h. The transcript levels of HSP70 and ferritin gene in hepatopancreas increased significantly at 1 h. HE staining showed that desiccation induced damage symptoms in hepatopancreas of P. monodon. These results revealed that desiccation could induce oxidative stress and antioxidant response via confusion of antioxidant enzymes activity and gene transcript level in hepatopancreas of P. monodon, and the time of shrimp under desiccation should lower than 0.5 h.

Abstract
In the present study, the oxidative stress response in hepatopancreas of Marsupenaeus japonicus to desiccation stress and resubmersed in seawater were studied, such as respiratory burst, ROS production ( [Formula: see text] ), activities of antioxidant enzymes (CAT, GPx, SOD, POD and GST) and oxidative damage to lipid and protein (indexed by contents of MDA). The duration of desiccation significantly influenced shrimp survival, and the mortality rates were 37.5% and 87.5% after desiccation 5 h and 10 h, respectively. After desiccation stress 3 h, the respiratory burst, ROS production, and the activity of SOD and CAT were up-regulated significantly. The activity of GPx and POD, and the content of MDA decreased significantly at 0.5 h and 1 h, and then increased significantly at 3 h. But GST activity was no significant change after desiccation. During the resubmersion period, most of the antioxidant enzymes activities could recover to the control level at 24 h, but a small quantity of the oxidative stress still existed in tissues. HE staining showed that desiccation stress induced damage symptoms in hepatopancreas of M. japonicus. These results revealed that desiccation influenced the antioxidative status and caused oxidative stress and tissue damage via confusion of antioxidant enzymes in M. japonicus, but the oxidative stress could be eliminated within a certain range after the shrimps were resubmersed in seawater.

Abstract
The residual contaminators such as ammonia and nitrite are widely considered as relevant sources of aquatic environmental pollutants, posing a great threat to shrimp survival. To study the toxicological effects of ammonia and nitrite exposure on the innate immune response in invertebrates, we investigated the oxidative stress and apoptosis in haemocytes of freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) under isolated and combined exposure to ammonia and nitrite in order to provide useful information about adult prawn immune responses. M. rosenbergii (13.44 ± 2.75 g) were exposed to 0, 5, and 25 mg/L total ammonia-N (TAN) and 0, 5, and 20 mg/L nitrite-N for 24 h. All ammonia concentrations were combined with all nitrite concentrations, making a total of nine treatments studied. Following the exposure treatment, antioxidant enzyme activity, reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, nitric oxide (NO) generation, and apoptotic cell ratio of haemocytes were measured using flow cytometry. Results indicated that ROS generation was sensitive to the combined effect of ammonia and nitrite, which subsequently affected the Cu-Zn SOD activity. In addition, CAT showed the highest activity at 5 mg/L TAN while GPx decreased at 5 mg/L TAN and returned towards baseline at 25 mg/L. NO generation synchronized with the apoptotic cell ratio in haemocytes, indicating that NO production was closely associated with programmed cell death. Both NO production and apoptotic ratios significantly decreased following 25 mg/L TAN, which may be due to the antagonistic regulation of NO and GPx. We hypothesized that the toxicological effect of nitrite exhibited less change in physiological changes compared to that of ammonia, because of the high tolerance to nitrite exposure in mature M. rosenbergii and/or the competitive effects of chloride ions. Taken together, these results showed that ammonia and nitrite caused a series of combined oxidative stress and apoptosis in M. rosenbergi, but further studies are of great need to explain the mechanisms.

Abstract
Vibrio parahaemolyticus is a virulent pathogen that affects shrimp aquaculture. Reactive oxygen species are produced by the immune system that defends the host against foreign microorganisms. In the present study, the oxidative stress response in hepatopancreas and gills of Penaeus monodon to V. parahaemolyticus challenge were studied, such as respiratory burst, ROS production (·O2(-) and ·OH), activities of antioxidant enzymes (CAT, GPx, SOD, POD and GST) and oxidative damage to lipid and protein (indexed by contents of MDA). Compared with the control group, after V. parahaemolyticus challenge, respiratory burst and ROS production were up-regulated significantly. GPx and POD activity increased significantly in hepatopancreas and gills of the shrimps at 12 h, but CAT activity decreased markedly at 12 h and 24 h. SOD and GST activity in hepatopancreas of the shrimps increased significantly at 1.5 h, but decreased markedly at 12 h-48 h. MDA content increased significantly after 6 h-24 h challenge. HE staining showed that V. parahaemolyticus challenge induced damage symptoms in hepatopancreas of P. monodon. Our study revealed that V. parahaemolyticus influenced the antioxidative status and caused oxidative stress and tissue damage via confusion of antioxidant enzymes in P. monodon.

Abstract
The immune system has an impact on the metabolic performance in vertebrates, thus the metabolic effects of immune cells are receiving intense attention today in the biomedical field. However, the evolutionary origin of the immunity-metabolism interaction is still uncertain. In this review, I show that mollusks and crustaceans integrate immune functions to a metabolic organ, the midintestinal gland ("hepatopancreas"). In these animals, the epithelial cells of the midintestinal gland are major sources of immune molecules, such as lectins, hemocyanin, ferritin, antibacterial and antiviral proteins, proteolytic enzymes and nitric oxide. There is crosstalk between midintestinal gland cells and phagocytes, which aids the initiation of the immune response and the clearance of pathogens. The midintestinal gland is thereby an integrated organ of immunity and metabolism. It is likely that immunity was the primary function of the midintestinal gland cells and that their role in the intermediate metabolism has evolved during the course of their further specialization.
