Abstract
Ischemic heart diseases such as myocardial infarction (MI) are a global health problem and a leading cause of mortality worldwide. Angiogenesis is an important approach for myocardial healing following ischemia. Thus, this study aimed to explore the potential cardiac angiogenic effects of selenium (Se), alone and in combination with the tumor necrosis factor-alpha inhibitor, pentoxifylline (PTXF), via Akt/HIF-1α signaling. MI was induced in rats using two subcutaneous doses of isoprenaline (ISP) at a 24-h interval (150 mg/kg). One week later, rats were orally given Se (150 µg/kg/day), PTXF (50 mg/kg/day), or Se/PTXF combination. ISP-induced myocardial damage was evident by increased HW/TL ratios, ST segment elevation, and increased serum levels of CK-MB, LDH, and troponin-I. ISP increased the cardiac levels of the lipid peroxidation marker MDA; the pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6, IL-1β, and TNF-α; and the pro-apoptotic protein Bax and caspase-3. In contrast, the cardiac levels of the antioxidant markers GSH and SOD and the anti-apoptotic marker Bcl-2 were reduced. Furthermore, ISP markedly increased the cardiac levels of p-Akt and HIF-1α proteins and the cardiac gene expression of ANGPT-1, VEGF, and FGF-2. Treatment with Se both alone and in combination with PTXF ameliorated the ISP-induced myocardial damage and further increased cardiac angiogenesis via Akt/HIF-1α signaling. Se/PTXF combined therapy was more beneficial than individual treatments. Our study revealed for the first time the cardiac angiogenic effects of Se both alone and in combination with PTXF in myocardial infarction, suggesting that both may be promising candidates for clinical studies.

Abstract
Heart attacks, also known as myocardial infarctions (MIs), are one of the main reasons people die from cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) worldwide. Neferine, an alkaloid derived from Nelumbo nucifera seeds, has garnered interest due to its purported medicinal effects. In the current research, we induced MI in rats using the β-adrenergic agonist isoproterenol to investigate whether neferine can improve cardiac dysfunction. The rats were separated into four groups: control, isoproterenol (ISO), and two treatment groups received neferine at doses of 10 or 20 mg/kg once daily for 28 days. On days 27 and 28, the groups undergoing treatment were administered with an ISO injection. Results showed that pretreatment with neferine strongly protected against changes in lipid profiles and cardiac functional markers in ISO-administered rats. Neferine attenuated histopathologic changes, collagen deposition, and myocardial fibrosis in rats administered ISO. Neferine pretreatment significantly inhibited the oxidative stress, inflammatory, and apoptotic markers in the heart of ISO-injected rats. This was achieved through Nrf2/Keap1/ARE signaling stimulation, TLR4/NF-κB/MAPK-mediated signaling inhibition, and activation of the intrinsic apoptotic pathway. Using CB-Dock-2, researchers determined that neferine has a high binding affinity with protein receptors that are pivotal in several biological processes. In conclusion, the study provides strong evidence that pretreatment with neferine protects rats from ISO-induced heart damage.

Abstract
Thymoquinone nanoparticles (TQNPs) are broadly utilized in numerous pharmaceutical applications. In the present study, we tested the effects of TQNP supplementation on sperm quality and kinematics, acrosome exocytosis, oxidative biomarkers, apoptosis-like and morphological changes of frozen-thawed buffalo sperm, as well as the fertilizing capacity. Semen was collected from buffalo bulls, diluted (1:10; semen/extender), and divided into five aliquots comprising various concentrations of TQNP 0 (CON), 12.5 (TQNP12.5), 25 (TQNP25), 37.5 (TQNP37.5), and 50 (TQNP50) µg/mL, and then cryopreserved and stored in liquid nitrogen (-196 °C). The results revealed that TQNPs (25 to 50 µg/mL) provided the most optimal results in terms of membrane integrity (p < 0.001) and progressive motility (p < 0.01). In contrast, TQNP50 resulted in a greater post-thawed sperm viability (p = 0.02) compared with other groups. The addition of TQNPs to the extender had no discernible effects on sperm morphology measures. Sperm kinematic motion was significantly improved in the TQNP50 group compared to the control group (p < 0.01). TQNPs effectively reduced the content of H2O2 and MDA levels and improved the total antioxidant capacity of post-thawed extended semen (p < 0.01). The addition of TQNP significantly increased the number of intact acrosomes (p < 0.0001) and decreased the number of exocytosed acrosomes (p < 0.0001). A significant reduction in apoptosis-like changes was observed in TQNP groups. The non-return rates of buffalo cows inseminated with TQNP50-treated spermatozoa were higher than those in the control group (p < 0.05; 88% vs. 72%). These findings suggested that the freezing extender supplemented with TQNPs could effectively enhance the cryotolerance and fertility of buffalo sperm.

Cardioprotective effects of Schisantherin A against isoproterenol-induced acute myocardial infarction through amelioration of oxidative stress and inflammation via modulation of PI3K-AKT/Nrf2/ARE and TLR4/MAPK/NF-κB pathways in rats. BMC Complement Med Ther 2023; 23:277. Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS The scientific community is concerned about cardiovascular disease mortality and morbidity, especially myocardial infarction (MI). Schisantherin A (SCA), a dibenzocyclooctadiene lignan monomer found in S. chinensis fruits has cardiovascular advantages such as increasing NO production in isolated rat thoracic aorta and reducing heart damage caused by ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) through decreasing apoptosis. The present study was undertaken to explore the potential effects of SCA on ISO-induced myocardial infarction in rats. METHODS Rats were randomly allocated to four groups: control; ISO-treated, and two additional groups of ISO + SCA (5 or 10 mg/kg body weight). All SCA-treated groups were administered with SCA for 20 days and all ISO groups were challenged with ISO on days 19 and 20. RESULTS SCA significantly attenuated ISO-induced rise in heart/body weight ratio, myocardial infarct size, and cardiac functional biomarkers (CK-MB, cTnI and BNP). SCA pre- and co-treatment resulted in a significant reduction in oxidative stress (via MDA, NO and GSH and increased activities of SOD, CAT and GPx) and inflammation (via decreased levels of TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1β) markers when compared to the same levels in cardiac tissue of ISO-treated rats. This study also showed that SCA protects ISO-induced oxidative stress and inflammation by activating the PI3K-AKT/Nrf2/ARE pathway and suppressing TLR4/MAPK/NF-κB pathways. Furthermore, SCA treatment protected histopathological alterations observed in only ISO-treated cardiac transverse sections of rats. CONCLUSION In conclusion, the findings of this study suggest that SCA protects against cardiac injury in the ISO-induced MI model of rats.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are produced by multiple cellular processes and are maintained at optimal levels in normal cells by endogenous antioxidants. In recent years, the search for potential exogenous antioxidants from dietary sources has gained considerable attention to eliminate excess ROS that is associated with oxidative stress related diseases including cancer. Propolis, a resinous honeybee product, has been shown to have protective effects against oxidative stress and anticancer effects against several types of neoplasms.
AIM To investigate the antioxidant and anticancer potential of Lebanese propolis when applied alone or in combination with the promising anticancer compound Thymoquinone (TQ) the main constituent of Nigella sativa essential oil.
METHODS Crude extracts of Lebanese propolis collected from two locations, Rashaya and Akkar-Danniyeh, were prepared in methanol and the total phenolic content was determined by Folin–Ciocalteu method. The antioxidant activity was assessed by the ability to scavenge 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical and to inhibit H2O2-induced oxidative hemolysis of human erythrocytes. The anticancer activity was evaluated by [3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5 diphenyl tetrazolium bromide] MTT assay against HCT-116 human colorectal cancer cells and MDA-MB-231 human breast cancer cells.
RESULTS The total phenolic content of propolis extract from Rashaya and Akkar-Danniyeh were 56.81 µg and 83.503 µg of gallic acid equivalent /mg of propolis, respectively. Both natural agents exhibited strong antioxidant activities as evidenced by their ability to scavenge DPPH free radical and to protect erythrocytes against H2O2-induced hemolysis. They also dose-dependently decreased the viability of both cancer cell lines. The IC50 value of each of propolis extract from Rashaya and Akkar-Danniyeh or TQ was 22.3, 61.7, 40.44 µg/mL for breast cancer cells at 72 h and 33.3, 50.9, 33.5 µg/mL for colorectal cancer cells at the same time point, respectively. Importantly, the inhibitory effects of propolis on DPPH radicals and cancer cell viability were achieved at half its concentration when combined with TQ.
CONCLUSION Our results indicate that Lebanese propolis extract has antioxidant and anticancer potential and its combination with TQ could possibly prevent ROS- mediated diseases.

Abstract
The cardiac mitochondrial damage and cardiac hypertrophy pathways are intimately associated with the pathology of myocardial infarction (MI). The protective effects of β-caryophyllene on mitochondrial damage and cardiac hypertrophy pathways in isoproterenol-induced myocardial infarcted rats were investigated. Isoproterenol (100 mg/kg body weight) was administered to induce MI. The ST-segment, QT interval, and T wave were widened, and the QRS complex and P wave were shortened in the electrocardiogram (ECG) and the serum cardiac diagnostic markers and heart mitochondrial lipid peroxidation products, calcium ions, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) were elevated and the heart mitochondrial antioxidants, tricarboxylic acid cycle, and respiratory chain enzymes were lessened in isoproterenol-induced myocardial infarcted rats. The heart mitochondrial damage was noted in the transmission electron microscopic study. The whole heart weight was increased and the subunits of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate - oxidase 2 (Nox 2) genes such as cybb and p22-phox and cardiac hypertrophy genes such as atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), β -myosin heavy chain (β-MHC), and actin alpha skeletal muscle-1(ACTA-1) were highly expressed in the rat's heart by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction study. The β-caryophyllene (20 mg/kg body weight) pre- and co-treatment orally, daily for 21 days reversed changes in ECG and lessened cardiac diagnostic markers, ROS, and whole heart weight and ameliorated mitochondrial damage and Nox/ANP/BNP/β-MHC/ACTA-1cardiac hypertrophy pathways in isoproterenol-induced myocardial infarcted rats. The observed effects might be due to the antioxidant, anti-mitochondrial damaging, and anti-cardiac hypertrophic mechanisms of β-caryophyllene.

Abstract
Mitochondrial inner membrane protein (Mitofilin/Mic60) is part of a big complex that constituent the mitochondrial inner membrane organizing system (MINOS), which plays a critical role in maintaining mitochondrial architecture and function. We recently showed that Mitofilin physically binds to Cyclophilin D, and disruption of this interaction promotes the opening of mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) and determines the extent of I/R injury. Here, we investigated whether Mitofilin knockout in the mouse enhances myocardial injury and inflammation after I/R injury. We found that full-body deletion (homozygote) of Mitofilin induces a lethal effect in the offspring and that a single allele expression of Mitofilin is sufficient to rescue the mouse phenotype in normal conditions. Using non-ischemic hearts from wild-type (WT) and Mitofilin+/- (HET) mice, we report that the mitochondria structure and calcium retention capacity (CRC) required to induce the opening of mPTP were similar in both groups. However, the levels of mitochondrial dynamics proteins involved in both fusion/fission, including MFN2, DRP1, and OPA1, were slightly reduced in Mitofilin+/- mice compared to WT. After I/R, the CRC and cardiac functional recovery were reduced while the mitochondria structure was more damaged, and myocardial infarct size was increased in Mitofilin+/- mice compared to WT. Mitofilin+/- mice exhibited an increase in the mtDNA release in the cytosol and ROS production, as well as dysregulated SLC25As (3, 5, 11, and 22) solute carrier function, compared to WT. In addition, Mitofilin+/- mice displayed an increase in the transcript of pro-inflammatory markers, including IL-6, ICAM, and TNF-α. These results suggest that Mitofilin knockdown induces mitochondrial cristae damage that promotes dysregulation of SLC25As solute carriers, leading to an increase in ROS production and reduction in CRC after I/R. These effects are associated with an increase in the mtDNA release into the cytosol, where it activates signaling cascades leading to nuclear transcription of pro-inflammatory cytokines that aggravate I/R injury.

Abstract
Myocardial infarction (MI) is a life-threatening ischemic disease and is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Serotonin (5-HT) release during myocardial ischemia plays an important role in the progression of myocardial cellular injury. This study was conducted to investigate the possible cardioprotective effect of flibanserin (FLP) against isoproterenol (ISO)-induced MI in rats. Rats were randomly divided into five groups and were treated orally (p.o.) with FLP (15, 30, and 45 mg/kg) for 28 days. ISO was administered subcutaneously (S.C.) (85 mg/kg) on the 27th and 28th days to induce MI. ISO-induced myocardial infarcted rats exhibited a significant increase in cardiac markers, oxidative stress markers, cardiac and serum 5-HT levels, and total cardiac calcium (Ca2+) concentration. ISO-induced myocardial infarcted rats also revealed a remarkable alteration of electrocardiogram (ECG) pattern and significantly upregulated expression of the 5-Hydroxytryptamine 2A (5-HT2A) receptors gene. Moreover, ISO-induced myocardial infarcted rats showed significant histopathological findings of MI and hypertrophic signs. However, pretreatment with FLP significantly attenuated the ISO-induced MI in a dose-dependent manner, as the effect of FLP (45 mg/kg) was more pronounced than that of the other two doses, FLP (15 and 30 mg/kg). The present study provides evidence for the cardioprotective efficacy of FLP against ISO-induced MI in rats.

Abstract
It has been suggested that cytarabine (Ara-C) induces toxicity via mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress. Therefore, we hypothesized that mitochondrial protective agents and antioxidants can reduce cytarabine-induced neurotoxicity. For this purpose, 48 male Wistar rats were assigned into eight equal groups include control group, Ara-C (70 mg/kg, i.p.) group, Ara-C plus betanin (25 mg/kg, i.p.) group, Ara-C plus vitamin D (500 U/kg, i.p.) group, Ara-C plus thymoquinone (0.5 mg/kg, i.p.) group, betanin group, vitamin group, and thymoquinone group. The activity of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), the concentrations of antioxidants (reduced glutathione and oxidized glutathione), oxidative stress (malondialdehyde) biomarkers, mitochondrial toxicity parameters as well as histopathological alteration in brain tissues were measured. Our results demonstrated that Ara-C exposure significantly declines the brain enzymes activity (AChE and BChE), levels of antioxidant biomarkers (GSH), and mitochondrial functions, but markedly elevate the levels of oxidative stress biomarkers (MDA) and mitochondrial toxicity. Almost all of the previously mentioned parameters (especially mitochondrial toxicity) were retrieved by betanin, vitamin D, and thymoquinone compared to Ara-C group. These findings conclusively indicate that betanin, vitamin D, and thymoquinone administration provide adequate protection against Ara-C-induced neurotoxicity through modulations of oxidative, antioxidant activities, and mitochondrial protective (mitoprotective) effects.

Materials and Methods In this experimental study, 40 female albino rats (120-150 gr, 8-10 wk) were sorted into 4 groups, (n = 10/each), vehicle group (received a daily oral administration of 0.5 ml saline [9%]); AA group (received a daily oral administration with freshly prepared AA, 20 mg/kg body weight) for 21 days which is less than the lethal dose LD 50 of AA in rats (20 mg/kg body weight); AA+TQ group (received a daily oral administration of TQ, 10 mg/kg body weight) after AA intoxication for 21 days, and TQ group (received a daily oral administration of TQ only, 10 mg/kg body weight) for 21 consecutive days. Reproductive hormones, carcinogenic biomarkers, and oxidative stress markers were measured. The histological assessment showed the protective effect of TQ against AA-induced ovarian injury. Network pharmacology analysis and molecular docking approach were carried out to determine the binding affinity of TQ with cyclooxygenase 2. Results TQ administration significantly enhanced the functional capacity of the ovary at hormones, oxidative biomarkers, and tumor markers at a significant level of p < 0.001. Besides, TQ protects the ovary of AA-treated rats from the severe degeneration effect. Conclusion TQ showed a promising protective effect against AA-induced reproductive toxicity in female rats.

Abstract
This study aims to investigate the protective effects of thymoquinone (THQ) in isoproterenol (ISO)-induced myocardial infarction (MI) in rats. Thirty-two rats were divided into four equal groups. Control, THQ; Intragastric(ig) by dissolved 20 mg/kg in 500 μl olive oil at 24-h intervals for 7 days, ISO; On the 6th and 7th days of the experiment, it was dissolved in 1 ml distilled water, 100 mg/kg, subcutaneously(sb), THQ + ISO; THQ was given 20 mg/kg at 24-h intervals for 7 days, 100 mg/kg was given on days 6 and 7 of the ISO experiment. At the end of the experiment, blood and heart tissues were taken and histological, Western blot and biochemical analyzes were performed. In the ISO group, cardiomyocyte damage and large necrotic areas were observed. While neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) decreased, inducible NOS (iNOS) and endothelial NOS (eNOS) expression increased. Receptor-interacting serine-threonine kinase (RIP/RIPK) RIP1 and RIP3 protein levels were increased. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), creatin-kinase (CK-MB) and cardiac troponin I (cTn-I) levels were increased. Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) levels were decreased. THQ caused the reduction of necrotic areas caused by ISO. NOS regulated enzyme levels. Increased ISO-induced decreased RIP1 and RIP3 expressions. THQ regulated the biochemical parameter levels. ISO triggers MI-induced necrosis through NOS enzymes by causing severe histological changes in heart tissue. THQ, on the other hand, reveals that it can be an important antinecrotic agent in the prevention of MI-induced damage by regulating both NOS enzyme levels and necrosis markers.

Abstract
Earlier studies reported that long-term treatment with thymoquinone (TQ) at a high dose (20 mg/kg) exerts a cardioprotective effect against isoproterenol (ISO)-triggered myocardial infarction (MI) in rats. In the present study, we tested the hypothesis that TQ, as a potent molecule, can exhibit cardioprotective effects at the lower dose for a short-term regimen. The rats were administered with TQ (5 mg/kg, intraperitoneal) at the 4 h interval for 2 days. ISO (100 mg/kg/day, subcutaneous) was given for 2 days to produce MI. ISO challenge results in deformation in ECG wave front, elevated left ventricular (LV) end-diastolic pressure, and reduced LVdP/dtmax and LVdP/dtmin. The levels of the cardiac biomarker in serum, such as creatine kinase MB, alanine aminotransferase, and aspartate aminotransferase, were increased. In the myocardium, a rise in malonaldehyde and decreased superoxide dismutase, glutathione, and catalase contents were observed. Furthermore, increased levels of tumor necrotic factor-α, interleukin-6, and interleukin-1β were observed in the myocardium. TQ pretreatment significantly normalized alterations in hemodynamic parameters, strengthened the antioxidant defense system, and decreased the contents of pro-inflammatory cytokines and hepatic enzymes as compared to the ISO group. Based on the results, TQ appears to be cardioprotective at low doses, and effective even administered for a shorter duration.

RIP3 Translocation into Mitochondria Promotes Mitofilin Degradation to Increase Inflammation and Kidney Injury after Renal Ischemia-Reperfusion. Cells 2022; 11:cells11121894. Abstract
The receptor-interacting protein kinase 3 (RIP3) has been reported to regulate programmed necrosis-necroptosis forms of cell death with important functions in inflammation. We investigated whether RIP3 translocates into mitochondria in response to renal ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) to interact with inner mitochondrial protein (Mitofilin) and promote mtDNA release into the cytosol. We found that release of mtDNA activates the cGAS-STING pathway, leading to increased nuclear transcription of pro-inflammatory markers that exacerbate renal I/R injury. Monolateral C57/6N and RIP3-/- mice kidneys were subjected to 60 min of ischemia followed by either 12, 24, or 48 h of reperfusion. In WT mice, we found that renal I/R injury increased RIP3 levels, as well as its translocation into mitochondria. We observed that RIP3 interacts with Mitofilin, likely promoting its degradation, resulting in increased mitochondria damage and mtDNA release, activation of the cGAS-STING-p65 pathway, and increased transcription of pro-inflammatory markers. All of these effects observed in WT mice were decreased in RIP3-/- mice. In HK-2, RIP3 overexpression or Mitofilin knockdown increased cell death by activating the cGAS-STING-p65 pathway. Together, this study point to an important role of the RIP3-Mitofilin axis in the initiation and development of renal I/R injury.

Abstract
Mitochondrial dysfunction may lead to cardiomyocyte death in trastuzumab (TZM)-induced cardiotoxicity. Accordingly, this study was designed to evaluate the mitochondrial protective effects of curcumin, chrysin and thymoquinone alone in TZM-induced cardiotoxicity in the rats. Forty-eight male adult Wistar rats were divided into eight groups: control group (normal saline), TZM group (2.5 mg/kg I.P. injection, daily), TZM + curcumin group (10 mg/kg, I.P. injection, daily), TZM + chrysin (10 mg/kg, I.P. injection, daily), TZM + thymoquinone (0.5 mg/kg, I.P. injection, daily), curcumin group (10 mg/kg, I.P. injection, daily), chrysin group (10 mg/kg, I.P. injection, daily) and thymoquinone group (10 mg/kg, I.P. injection, daily). Blood and tissue were collected on day 11 and used for assessment of creatine phosphokinase, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), troponin, malondialdehyde (MDA) amount, glutathione levels and mitochondrial toxicity parameters. TZM increased mitochondrial impairments (reactive oxygen species formation, mitochondrial swelling, mitochondrial membrane potential collapse and decline in succinate dehydrogenase activity) and histopathological alterations (hypertrophy, enlarged cell, disarrangement, myocytes degeneration, infiltration of fat in some areas, hemorrhage and focal vascular thrombosis) in rat heart. As well as TZM produced a significant increase in the level of CK, LDH, troponin, MDA, glutathione disulfide. In most experiments, the co-injection of curcumin, chrysin and thymoquinone with TZM restored the level of CK, LDH, troponin, MDA, GSH, mitochondrial impairments and histopathological alterations. The study revealed the cardioprotective effects of curcumin, chrysin and thymoquinone against TZM-induced cardiotoxicity which could be attributed to their antioxidant and mitochondrial protection activities.

Abstract
Augmented levels of reactive isolevuglandins (IsoLGs) are responsible for cardiovascular diseases. The role of IsoLGs in myocardial infarction (MI) remains elusive. Here we explored the effect of IsoLGs scavenger 2-hydroxybenzylamine (2-HOBA) in post-infarction cardiac repair. We observed that infarcted cardiac tissues expressed high IsoLGs in mice. Following MI injury, 2-HOBA treated mice displayed decreased infarction area and improved heart function compared with the saline-treated group. Moreover, 2-HOBA effectively attenuated MI-induced cardiac remodeling, oxidative stress, apoptosis, and inflammation. 4-hydroxybenzylamine (4-HOBA), a less reactive isomer of 2-HOBA, barely antagonized the MI-induced injury. These findings suggest that IsoLGs elimination may be helpful in MI therapy.

Abstract
Currently, living organisms are increasingly exposed to many toxic chemicals in the environment. These substances pose a threat to human life, other living organisms and ecosystem. In fact, there is an increasing requirement to search for safe therapeutic sources today. Medicinal plants and natural products have become of great importance globally because of their therapeutic potential and medicinal properties, as well as their availability and the absence of harmful side effects for most of them. The present study was designed to explore the potential protective effect of curcumin (CUR) and thymoquinone (TQ) in male rats exposed to thioacetamide (TAA). The experimental mice were divided into eight groups. Group 1 was served as control. Group 2 was exposed to 50 mg/ kg body weight of TAA. Group 3 was exposed to CUR and TAA. Mice of group 4 were treated with TQ and TAA. Mice of group 5 were exposed to CUR plus TQ and TAA. Group 6 was supplemented with CUR. Group 7 was subjected to TQ. Mice of group 8 were treated with CUR and TQ. Hematological and biochemical alterations were evaluated after one month. Significant increases of white blood corpuscles (WBC), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), total bilirubin (TB), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) values were observed in group 2, while the values of red blood corpuscles (RBC), hemoglobin (Hb(, hematocrit (Hct), glutathione (GSH) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were statistically decreased. Treatment with CUR, TQ and their combination inhibited the hematological and biochemical alterations induced by TAA toxicity. Moreover, the most protective effect was observed in mice treated with CUR plus TQ. These new results suggested that the protective effect of CUR and TQ attributed to their antioxidant properties.
