Abstract
This study validates a computational protocol to predict the stability of heterodinuclear complexes by varying ligands on both moieties and analyzing the reaction Gibbs free energy (ΔGr) values. To this purpose, a series of Eu-Al complexes with the general formula [Eu(LEu)3Al(LAl)3], where LEu is the ligand of europium and LAl is an oxygen donor ligand of aluminum, is used. The nature of the bridging bonds and thermochemical characteristics (ΔGr, enthalpy, and entropy) of the complexes were evaluated via DFT calculations. We demonstrated that both entropic and enthalpic effects play a relevant role in the stability. The analysis of the series allows us to identify three ΔGr ranges where heterodinuclear complexes are (i) stable and easy to characterize, (ii) fragile and difficult to characterize, and (iii) not observed (unreacted precursors are recovered). To rationalize the trend of the stability and correlate it with the chemical nature of the ligands, we investigated the condensed Fukui function on the Al fragment. Results suggest that to obtain stable heteronuclear complexes, it is necessary to consider ligands with small condensed Fukui function values. This corresponds to a less nucleophilic oxygen site, yet counterintuitively, it allows the ligand to delocalize the received electronic charge and stabilize the complex.

Abstract
The interest for heterometallic lanthanide-d or-p metal (Ln-M) complexes is growing because of a potential cooperative or synergistic effect related to the proximity of two different metals in the same molecular architecture affording special tunable physical properties. To exploit the potentiality of Ln-M complexes, suitable synthetic approaches, and the in-depth understanding of the effect of each building block on their properties are mandatory. Here, we report the study on a family of heterometallic luminescent complexes [Ln(hfac)3Al(L)3], Ln= Eu3+ and Tb3+. Using different L ligands, we investigated the effect of the steric and electronic properties of the Al(L)3 fragment, highlighting the general validity of the employed synthetic route. A marked difference in the light emission of [Eu(hfac)3Al(L)3] and [Tb(hfac)3Al(L)3] complexes has been observed. Thanks to photoluminescence experiments and Density Functional Theory calculations, Ln3+ emissions are explained with a model involving two non-interacting excitation paths through hfac or Al(L)3 ligands.

Abstract
A series of lanthanide-based self-assembling complexes constructed from Schiff base and β-diketonate ligands have been synthesised by the same method. They are one dimensional complexes ({[Ln(H2L)(tta)2(OAc)]·0.5H2O}n (Ln = Eu (1), Gd (2), Dy (3), Yb (4)); H2L = N,N′-bis(salicylidene)butane-1,4-diamine, tta = 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone). Complexes 1 and 4 exhibit characteristic metal-centred emission in the solid state. The lifetimes and quantum yields of luminescence were also determined. Magnetic analysis reveals that complex 3 exhibits field-induced single-molecule magnet (SMM) behaviour with an energy barrier of 24.07 K.

Abstract
A complete series of lanthanide Schiff base salen-type complexes were prepared with trivalent lanthanide ions (Ln3+) and the N,N'-bis-(3-methoxysalicylidene)ethylene-1,2-diamine ligand (Ln3+=La3+, Ce3+, Pr3+, Nd3+, Sm3+, Eu3+, Gd3+, Tb3+, Dy3+, Ho3+, Er3+, Tm3+, Yb3+, Lu3+). Three unique crystal structures of La3+ and Pr3+N,N'-bis-(3-methoxysalicylidene)ethylene-1,2-diamine complexes, with the La3+ complex prepared in two different synthetic approaches, are reported, namely a dimeric [La(H2L)(NO3)3]2 (H2L=N,N'-bis-(3-methoxysalicylidene)ethylene-1,2-diamine) complex, an asymmetric two-centered [La2(H2L)2(NO3)6] complex and a discrete mononuclear [Pr(H2L)(NO3)2(H2O)2] complex. For Nd3+ and Sm3+, an isotypic mononuclear [Nd(H2L)(NO3)3] and 1D polymeric [Sm(H2L)(NO3)3(MeOH)]n structure was obtained, respectively. The whole series of complexes was tested for their ability to cleave the 20-mer RNA oligonucleotide 5'-AGC-GAU-AAG-AUU-CAU-AUA-UC-3'. Additionally three complexes (Ln3+=Nd3+, Sm3+, Ho3+) were tested for the cleavage of the 12-mer RNA oligonucleotide 5'-GCA-CCC-UGU-CAG-3'. A detailed luminescence study was additionally carried out and revealed that the Eu3+ complex emitted bright red light upon excitation at both 285.8nm and 394.4nm. The Nd3+, Er3+, and Yb3+ complexes showed strong emission in the near-infrared region after excitation at 380nm.

Abstract
A novel trinuclear Ni(II) complex [{NiL(n-PrOH)(μ-OAc)}2Ni]·n-PrOH·H2O with an asymmetric Salamo-type ligand, 5-methoxy-4'-bromo-2,2'-[ethylenedioxybis(nitrilomethylidyne)]diphenol (H2L), has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV/Vis and fluorescence spectra and molar conductance measurement. The crystal structure of the Ni(II) complex has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Two acetate groups coordinating to three Ni(II) ions through NiOCONi bridges and four μ-phenoxo oxygen atoms from two [NiL(n-PrOH)] units also coordinating to Ni(II) ions. In the Ni(II) complex, two n-propanol molecules are coordinated to the two terminal Ni(II) ions having slightly distorted octahedral coordination geometries and form a trinuclear structure, There are also one non-coordinated n-propanol and one non-coordinated water molecule. In the crystal structure, the Ni(II) complex is linked by intermolecular hydrogen bonds into an infinite 1D supramolecular chain-like structure.

Abstract
A novel heterodinuclear complex formed by the reaction of silver nitrate with Schiff base complex of copper(II) has been synthesized and characterized by Infrared (IR), ultraviolet-visible (UV-VIS), electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and X-ray diffraction methods. Preparation and crystal structure of the heterodinuclear complex, LCuAgNO3, (L=N,N'-ethylenebis(3-methoxysalicylideneimine) are reported. The crystal structure consists of ordered dinuclear units with CuII and AgI ions are bridged by two oxygen atoms of Schiff base ligand. The copper(II) ion has a distorted square-planar geometry involving the N2O2 donor set of Schiff base ligand. The g-values were calculated for title complex both in polycrystalline state at 298 K and in frozen DMF (113 K). The evaluated metal-ligand bonding parameters showed strong in-plane σ bonding.

Abstract
A mesogenic Schiff-base, N,N'-di-(4-decyloxysalicylidene)-1',6'-diaminohexane, H2ddsdh (abbreviated as H2L2) that exhibits smectic-B (SmB) mesophase, was synthesized and its structure studied by elemental analysis, mass spectrometry, NMR & IR spectral techniques. The Schiff-base, H2L2, upon condensation with hydrated lanthanide(III) nitrates, yields LnIII complexes of the general composition [Ln2(L2H2)3(NO3)4](NO3)2, where Ln=La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy and Ho. IR and NMR spectral data imply a bi-dentate bonding of the Schiff-base in its zwitterionic form (as L2H2) to the LnIII ions through two phenolate oxygens. The POM and DSC studies reveal that none of the LnIII complexes exhibits mesomorphism. Fluorescence studies show that the TbIII complex displays characteristic metal-centered fluorescence (solution state).
