Abstract
Guar gum (GG), as a non-exudate gum, is extracted from the seed's embryos of Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (a member of Leguminosae family). Recently, this biopolymer has received extensive attention due to its low cost, notable properties, non-toxic biodegradation, ease of availability, and biocompatibility. However, disadvantages such as uncontrolled hydration rate and susceptibility to microbial attack have led many researchers to further modification of guar gum. Further modifications of guar gum heteropolysaccharide have been performed to improve properties and explore and expand its potential. The favorable biostability, improved solubility, and swelling, increased pH sensitivity, and good antibacterial and antioxidant properties indicate the significant advantages of the modified gum structures with different functional groups. In this review, the rapid growth in research on GG derivatives-based materials has been discovered. Besides, the production methods of GG and its derivatives have been discussed in tissue engineering and regenerative medical. Consequently, this review highlights the advances in the production of guar-based products to outline a promising future for this biopolymer by changing its properties and expanding its applications in potential targets.

Abstract
The increasing presence of uranium as a radionuclide contaminant in water is a threat to human health and the environment. Sonication-assisted crosslinking of guar gum, a biopolymer, is carried out with zirconium phosphate to form an adsorbent (GG@ZrP) for the removal of uranium from water. The surface characteristics, functionalities, and thermal stability of the composite were established using various analytical and spectral tools. Langmuir, Freundlich, and Sips models were used to evaluate the batch adsorption parameters. The adsorbent exhibited an excellent Langmuir adsorption capacity of 500 mg g-1 towards adsorption of uranium at pH 6. The adsorption was endothermic (ΔH, 22.63 kJ mol-1) and followed pseudo-second order kinetics. The synergistic influence of hydroxyl-rich guar gum and phosphate moieties resulted in efficient binding of uranium. With a high selectivity towards interfering cations and anions and applicability over a good range of pH, this adsorbent is a promising candidate for uranium remediation from water.

Abstract
The escalating intersection of diabetes and impaired wound healing poses a substantial societal burden, marked by an increasing prevalence of chronic wounds. Diabetic individuals struggle with hindered recovery, attributed to compromised blood circulation and diminished immune function, resulting in prolonged healing periods and elevated healthcare expenditures. To address this challenge, we report here a drug-free novel guar gum (GG)-based nano-formulation which is effective against diabetic wound healing. Nanoparticles with an average particle size of 32.4 nm display stability with negative zeta potential. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis reveal alterations in thermal properties and molecular structures induced by the nano-particulation process. In vitro studies highlight the antioxidant potential of GGNP through concentration-dependent free radical scavenging activity in DPPH and ABTS assays. The nanoformulation also exhibits inhibitory effects on α-glucosidase and α-amylase enzymes. Cell viability studies have indicated moderate cytotoxicity in L929 cells and significant proliferation and migration in HaCaT cells, suggesting a positive impact on skin cells. In vitro enzymatic activity assessments under hyperglycaemic conditions reveal the potential of GGNP to modulate glutathione-S-transferase (GST), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase activities as well as decreasing lipid peroxidation (LPO) levels, showcasing an antioxidant response. These results suggest GGNP as a promising candidate in diabetic wound healing.

Abstract
Optimized production of Aspergillus niger ATCC 26011 endo-β-mannanase (ManAn) on copra meal resulted in 2.46-fold increase (10,028 U/gds). Purified ManAn (47 kDa) showed high affinity towards guar gum (GG) as compared to konjac gum and locust bean gum with Km 2.67, 3.25 and 4.07 mg/mL, respectively. ManAn efficiently hydrolyzed GG and liberated mannooligosaccharides (MOS). Changes occurring in the rheological and compositional aspects of GG studied using Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) revealed increased thermal stability and crystallinity of the partially hydrolyzed guar gum (PHGG). Parametric optimization of the time and temperature dependent hydrolysis of GG (1% w/v) with 100 U/mL of ManAn at 60 °C and pH: 5.0 resulted in 12.126 mg/mL of mannotetraose (M4) in 5 min. Enhanced growth of probiotics Lactobacilli and production of short chain fatty acids (SCFA) that inhibited enteropathogens, confirmed the prebiotic potential of PHGG and M4.

Abstract
Biobased materials are expanding dramatically in various industrial applications due to their unique intrinsic properties. In this study, various chemical functionalization procedures were used to synthesize guar gum, a naturally occurring polysaccharide-based polyurea, and its iodine complexes. Firstly, guar gum was subjected to tosylation reaction using p-toluene sulphonyl chloride to introduce tosyl moieties in the polymer chain with the degree of substitution (DS) ranging between 0.16 and 1.54. Sample having the highest degree of tosyl moiety was further reacted with tris(2-aminoethyl) amine to produce 6-deoxy-6-tris(2-aminoethyl) amine derivative via nucleophilic substitution reaction to impart amino functional groups. The degree of substitution in 6-deoxy-6-tris(2-aminoethyl) amine derivative was found to be 0.59. 6-deoxy-6-tris(2-aminoethyl) amine derivative was reacted with different diisocyanates (Toluene-2,4-diisocyanate (TDI), 1,6-diisocyanatohexane (HMDI)) to produce guar gum based polyurea. Iodine complexes of the resulting polyurea were prepared by reacting with different iodinating agents. Different chemical reactions, formation of polyurea and its iodine complexes were thoroughly analyzed by different analytical techniques such as FT-IR, NMR, elemental analysis, XRD, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and a reaction scheme has been proposed. Morphological and rheological characteristics were analyzed by SEM and viscosity measurement. Thermal analysis was carried out by TGA and DSC studies. Finally, by examining the complex's UV-Vis spectra, the iodine release characteristics from polyurea‑iodine complexes were investigated.

Abstract
The impact of guar gum (GG), crude algae ethanolic extract (CAEE), and turmeric essential oil (TEO) incorporated edible coating formulations on the quality of cut potatoes was investigated at room temperature (27 ± 3 °C, 70-85 % RH) storage using a rotatable central composite design. Besides, 30 % glycerol, 5 % calcium chloride, and 3 % ascorbic acid (w/w) were added to the coating solution as additives. The surface color, respiration rate, water vapor transmission rate, visible mold growth, and sensory analysis were assessed after seven days of storage. The inclusion of ascorbic acid and TEO in edible coating demonstrated a more effective delay in browning. The coated potatoes had lower OTR, CTR, and WVTR values for GG concentrations of 0.5 to 1 g/100 mL than the control. Compared to additives, higher concentrations of GG improved response parameters. The WVTR value of coated potatoes was significantly impacted by the interaction between CAEE and TEO with GG. Incorporating CAEE and TEO into the formulations of guar gum led to a reduction in the permeability of the coating to oxygen and water vapor. The seven days of extended shelf life compared to two days of control were observed with the optimized coating formulation. Furthermore, the application of the coating treatment proved effective in preventing enzymatic browning and creating a barrier against moisture and gases, contributing to prolonged freshness during extended storage periods.

Abstract
Galactomannans are polysaccharides obtained from legume seed extraction. They present a chemical structure consisting of D-mannose chains linked by glycosidic bonds and galactose branches. The main focus lies in their use as thickeners in the food industry, aimed at improving the dielectric properties of food during heating processes within the radiofrequency and microwave ranges. In this work, the prepared galactomannan samples were electrically analyzed through impedance spectroscopy, which is a powerful physical technique. From the experimental measurements, the dielectric permittivity and loss tangent of the galactomannan solutions were analyzed and the electrical modulus formalism was used to study the dielectric relaxations. Crude galactomannans exhibited higher values of permittivity, conductivity, and losses compared to purified galactomannans. Increasing ethanol concentration in galactomannan purification causes an increase in the permittivity and conductivity of galactomannan solutions. In a 1% solution, at 1 kHz, the permittivity increased from 378.56 to 538.09, while in the 2% solution, this increase was from 656.22 to 1103.24. Regarding the conductivity, at the same frequency, the increase was from 1.6 × 10-3 to 3.3 × 10-3 Ω-1m-1 and from 2.9 × 10-3 to 5.5 × 10-3 Ω-1m-1, respectively. The rise of the ethanol concentration in galactomannan purification led to a decrease in the relaxation time, from 448.56 to 159.15 μs and from 224.81 to 89.50 μs in the solution with 1 and 2%, respectively. The results suggest that galactomannan from Adenanthera pavonina L. has potential for use in the food industry.

Abstract
In the present study, a novel environment friendly dry method for preparation of guar gum maleate (GGM) with varying degrees of substitution (DS; 0.02-1.04) was optimized. GGM with a maximum DS of 1.04 was successfully synthesized using guar gum (GG) and maleic anhydride (MA) in proportion of 1: 1 at 80 °C with 4 h of reaction time. The activation energy for the reaction was determined to be 36.91 ± 3.61 kJ mol-1 with pre-exponential factor of 1392 min-1. Esterification of GG was confirmed by FT-IR and 13C NMR. Analysis using size exclusion chromatography (SEC) indicated a decrease in weight average molecular weight (Mw) of the polymer with an increase in polydispersity index (PDI) due to esterification. In comparison with GG, GGM displayed increased hydrophobicity and reduced thermal stability, as analysed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Rheological studies of GGM revealed that initial apparent viscosity decreased with increasing DS. For the first time, the study offered valuable insights on GGM synthesis under dry solvent-less reaction conditions enabling simpler and scalable synthesis process.

Abstract
Engineered bone scaffolds should mimic the natural material to promote cell adhesion and regeneration. For this reason, natural biopolymers are becoming a gold standard in scaffold production. In this study, we proposed a hybrid scaffold produced using gellan gum, hydroxyapatite, and Poly (ethylene glycol) within the addition of the ginseng compound K (CK) as a candidate for bone regeneration. The fabricated scaffold was physiochemically characterized. The morphology studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and image analysis revealed a pore distribution suitable for cells growth. The addition of CK further improved the biological activity of the hybrid scaffold as demonstrated by the MTT assay. The addition of CK influenced the scaffold morphology, decreasing the mean pore diameter. These findings can potentially help the development of a new generation of hybrid scaffolds to best mimic the natural tissue.

Abstract
Skin, the largest organ in the body, blocks the entry of environmental pollutants into the system. Any injury to this organ allows infections and other harmful substances into the body. 3D bioprinting, a state-of-the-art technique, is suitable for fabricating cell culture scaffolds to heal chronic wounds rapidly. This study uses starch extracted from Maranta arundinacea (Arrowroot plant) (AS) and gellan gum (GG) to develop a bioink for 3D printing a scaffold capable of hosting animal cells. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) prove that the isolated AS is analogous to commercial starch. The cell culture scaffolds developed are superior to the existing monolayer culture. Infrared microscopy shows the AS-GG interaction and elucidates the mechanism of hydrogel formation. The physicochemical properties of the 3D-printed scaffold are analyzed to check the cell adhesion and growth; SEM images have confirmed that the AS-GG printed scaffold can support cell growth and proliferation, and the MTT assay shows good cell viability. Cell behavioral and migration studies reveal that cells are healthy. Since the scaffold is biocompatible, it can be 3D printed to any shape and structure and will biodegrade in the requisite time.

Abstract
In this study, three acidic polysaccharides (OFPP-1, OFPP-2 and OFPP-3) were isolated from the pulps of Opuntia dillenii Haw. fruits, and their chain conformations, physicochemical and rheological properties were investigated. The molecular weight and conformational parameters (Mw, Mn, Mz, Rg and Rh) of OFPPs in 0.1 M NaNO3 solution were detected by HPSEC-MALLS-RI. In addition, based on the parameters ρ and v, it was concluded that these three polysaccharide chains exhibited sphere-like conformation in 0.1 M NaNO3 solution, which was consistent with AFM and TEM observations. Furthermore, the Congo Red experiment showed that OFPP-2 had a triple-helix structure, which may be conducive to its biological activity. This study also found that OFPPs were semi-crystalline structures with high thermal and pH stability. The rheological analyses indicated that the apparent viscosity of OFPPs solutions exhibited concentration-, temperature-, and pH-dependence, and the viscoelasticity of them was affected by molecular characteristics and concentration. The results of this study are helpful to elucidate the structure-activity relationship of OFPPs. Moreover, this study can provide theoretical reference for the application of OFPPs as bioactive ingredients or functional materials in the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries and the development and utilization of the O. dillenii Haw. fruits resource.

Abstract
In this study, spray drying was used as a technological solution for the valorization of Teucrium montanum extract into carboxymethyl cellulose-based delivery systems (CMC), individually or in combination with collagen, guar gum, gum arabic, and kappa-carrageenan. The results showed that the process yield and morphological properties were positively influenced by the introduction of CMC binary blends. The employment of CMC resulted in a high encapsulation efficiency (77-96%) for all phenylethanoid glycosides (PGs) analyzed. Due to the low wettability of the microparticles, a relatively gradual in vitro release of the PGs was achieved. Infusion of the filling with hydrophilic T. montanum extract encapsulated in microparticles with high hydrophobic surface area proved to be a practical route for significant confectionery fortification (5-9 mg PGs per dw serving), ensuring prolonged interaction between the food matrix used and the extract under simulated gastrointestinal conditions. Based on sensory evaluation, the introduction of kudzu starch into the jelly matrix has shown a texture-modifying potential.

Abstract
Most dust suppressants used for buildings currently lack sufficient resistance to harsh conditions, such as high temperatures and wind erosion. To solve this problem, it is necessary to develop a new type of dust suppressant. In this study, the guar gum molecule was chemically modified to remove the active hydroxyl group in order to significantly improve the stability and adhesion of guar gum. Eventually, a composite dust suppressant was synthesized by incorporating a surfactant and an absorbent agent into modified guar gum. The functional groups of the reaction products were analyzed via infrared experiments, thus confirming the success of the modification. Wind erosion resistance and scanning electron microscopy experiments confirmed the improved bonding capabilities of the composite dust suppressant with dust particles. In experiments on wind erosion resistance, the dust fixation rate exceeded 50% after the application of the composite dust suppressant. The results of the thermogravimetric tests showed that the maximum mass loss rate of the samples with modified guar gum dust suppressants was 6.0% and 28% lower than those of the samples with unmodified guar gum dust suppressants and water, respectively. Furthermore, the tests conducted on pH value and corrosion resistance indicated that the pH value of this dust suppressant was comparable to that of tap water and demonstrated a similar rate of metal corrosion. The practical significance of this study is to improve the dust suppressant used in buildings, to improve the performance of dust suppressant and resistance to harsh environment, and to help to continuously improve the health of personnel and environmental protection during construction. Abstract
Plant-based polysaccharides are considered a good alternative for obtaining edible films and coatings. In this research the objective was to determine the physicochemical characteristics of corn starch obtained from QPM Sac-Beh (SBCS) and Delonix regia galactomannan (DRG) and use them to produce films. Films were elaborated from 1 %(w/v) film-forming solutions (FFS) with SBCS:DRG 1:0, 1:1, and 0:1 ratio. Some films were prepared with glycerol 0.4 %(w/v) and vanillin 0.1 %(w/v). SBCS and DRG were characterized by infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. SBCS presented low crystallinity which agrees with a low gelatinization ΔH observed. The SBCS:DRG 1:0 FFS without glycerol did not form films; however, DRG addition allows film formation. It was also found that glycerol addition reduced tensile strength to 10.3 MPa, from 41.3 MPa. The lowest water vapor permeability was found in films with 1:1 SBCS:DRG and 0.1 %(w/v) vanillin. This formulation was used to coat D'Anjou pears. This coating conserved the pears' color for 24 days while the control ones started to get a brown color on day 6. Based on the results obtained, FFS elaborated with 1:1 SBCS:DRG and 0.1 %(w/v) vanillin had potential use as edible film material for coating on climacteric fruits preservation.

Abstract
Purpose Asperosaponin VI (ASP VI) as an active ingredient of Dipsacus asperoides, which has a wide range of biological and pharmacological activity. However, its development and application are restricted due to the poor gastrointestinal permeability and oral bioavailability. This investigation aims to reveal the influence of the self-assembled structure by the interaction between ASP VI and endogenous components NaTC and/or DOPC in the gastrointestinal environment on its biopharmaceutical properties, and novelty elucidated the molecular mechanism for the formation of self-assembled nanomicelles. Methods This change in phase state in gastrointestinal fluids is characterized by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). UPLC-Q-TOF-MS was used to analyze the composition of phase components and the exposure of nanomicelles in vivo. Molecular dynamics simulation (MDS) was applied to preliminarily elucidate the self-assembly mechanism of ASP VI in the gastrointestinal environment. Furthermore, theS8 promoting absorption mechanism of nanomicelles were investigated through in vivo pharmacokinetic experiments, parallel artificial membrane permeability assay (PAMPA), quadruple single-pass intestinal perfusion in rats, and Caco-2 cell monolayer model. Results We demonstrated that the ASP VI could spontaneously form dynamic self-assembled structures with sodium taurocholate (NaTC) and dipalmitoyl phosphatidylcholine (DOPC) during gastrointestinal solubilization, which promoted the gastrointestinal absorption and permeability of ASP VI and increased its exposure in vivo, thus improving the biopharmacological characteristics of ASP VI. Moreover, ASP VI-NaTC-DOPC-self-assembled nanostructures (ASP VI-NaTC-DOPC-SAN) manifested higher cellular uptake in Caco-2 cells as evidenced by flow cytometry and confocal microscopy, and this study also preliminarily revealed the mechanism of self-assembly formation of ASP VI with endogenous components NaTC and DOPC driven by electrostatic and hydrogen bonding interactions. Conclusion This study provides evidence that the dynamic self-assembled phase transition may play a key role in improving the biopharmacological characteristics of insoluble or low permeability active ingredients during the gastrointestinal dissolution of Chinese medicines.

Abstract
The high water-soluble films are commonly used in food coating and food encapsulation. In this study, the effect of Aloe vera gel (AV) and ε-polylysine (ε-PL) on the comprehensive properties of films based on guar gum (GG) were investigated. When GG to AV was 8:2, the GG:AV:ε-PL composite films (water solubility = 68.50%) had an 82.42% higher water solubility than pure guar gum (PGG) films (water solubility = 37.55%). Compared with PGG films, the composite films more transparent, better thermal stability and elongation at break. X-ray diffraction and SEM analysis showed the composite films were amorphous structures and the AV and ε-PL did not change the structure of PGG. FITR analysis confirmed the formation of hydrogen bonds within the composite films. Antibacterial properties showed the composite films had a good antibacterial effect against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Therefore, the composite films can be a new option of high water-soluble antibacterial food packaging materials.

Abstract
Today, the commercial application of silicon oxides (SiOx, 1 < x < 2) in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) still faces the challenge of rapid performance degradation. In this work, by integrating hydrothermal and physicomechanical processes, water-soluble locust bean gum (LBG) and xanthan gum (XG) are utilized to in situ form an LBG@XG binder network to improve the performance of SiOx/C anodes. As a synergy of LBG and XG polysaccharides in hydrogel polymerization, LBG@XG can tightly wrap around SiOx/C particles to prevent plate damage. The flexible SiOx/C anode with the LBG@XG binder exhibits capacity retentions of 74.1% and 76.4% after 1000 cycles at 0.5 A g-1 and 1 A g-1, respectively. The full battery capacity remains stable for 100 cycles at 1 C and the rate performance is excellent (103 mAh g-1 at 3 C). This LBG@XG is demonstrated to be highly electronegative and has a strong attraction to SiOx/C particles, thereby reducing the expansion and increasing the stability of the SiOx/C anodes when coupled with the flexible binder network. In addition to the promising LBG@XG binder, this work also provides a research idea for developing green water-based binders suitable for application in the SiOx/C anodes of LIBs.

Abstract
This study investigated the effects of three oil production methods on the physicochemical properties of dietary fiber from rice bran flour, and the hypolipidemic effects of the dietary fibers were investigated in vitro and in vivo. The particle size results showed that the organic-solvent-impregnated rice bran meal dietary fiber (N-RBDF) had the smallest average particle size and the aqueous enzymatic rice bran meal dietary fiber (E-RBDF) had the narrowest particle size distribution. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results demonstrated that all three kinds of rice bran meal dietary fibers (RBDFs) were irregularly flaky. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) results revealed that the three RBDFs had similar reactive groups, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) results indicated that all three RBDFs were cellulose type I crystals. The results of thermogravimetric analysis showed that the lignin content of N-RBDF was significantly lower than that of the other two. Among the three kinds of RBDFs, E-RBDF had higher water retention capacity, swelling capacity, oil holding capacity, and adsorption capacity for cholesterol and sodium bile salts. The results of experimental studies in hyperlipidemic rats showed that all three kinds of RBDFs significantly reduced triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and elevated high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) in the serum of hyperlipidemic rats; they also significantly lowered malondialdehyde (MDA) and elevated total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activities in the livers of rats. In addition, all three kinds of RBDFs decreased aminotransferase (ALT) and aminotransferase (AST) activity in serum and also improved liver steatosis and reduced atherosclerosis index (AI) in rats with hyperlipidemia. Our study provides a reference for the development and utilization of rice bran meal and the application of rice bran meal dietary fiber in food processing.

Abstract
As more eco-friendly and economical choice for wet facial masks, dry facial masks have always had the problem of cumbersome application process and poor water retention property. In this study, based on the mechanism of directional water transport of Janus membrane and plant transpiration, the hydrophobic polylactic acid (PLA) nanofiber layer and the superhydrophilic guar gum (GG) nanofiber layer were prepared on both sides of the silk facial mask (SM) by electrospinning to obtain the guar gum-based bionic Janus directional water transport facial mask (G-DFM). The results showed that the directional water transport function improved the facial mask's water retention by 37 %, and the nicotinamide (NAM) encapsulated in the GG layer gave the facial mask excellent whitening and antibacterial properties. The GG layer could be directed to swell after absorbing water to form the "gel-like", which ensured that the G-DFM could continue to release NAM during its work and would enhance the attachment between the G-DFM and the skin. G-DFM not only retained the advantages of SM but also expanded the functions that SM did not have, providing an idea for designing more practical and ideal facial masks in the future.

Abstract
Peatlands play a critical role in the global carbon cycle, storing large amounts of carbon because of a net imbalance between primary production and the microbial decomposition of the organic matter. Nevertheless, peatlands have historically been drained for energy sources (e.g. peat briquettes), forestry, or agriculture - practices that could affect the quality of the soil organic matter (SOM) composition, hydrophobicity and humification index. This study compared the effect of land use change on the quality and composition of peatland organic material in Co-Offaly, Ireland. Specifically, drained and grazing peat (grassland), drained and forest plantation peat (forest plantation), drained and industrial cutaway peat (cutaway bog) and an undrained actively accumulating bog (as a reference for natural peatland) were studied. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was used to examine the organic matter quality, specifically the degree of decomposition (DDI), carbon chemistry signatures, hydrophobicity and humification index. The ratio of hydrophobic to hydrophilic group intensities was calculated as the SOM hydrophobicity. In general, there is greater variance in the carbon chemistry signature, such as aliphatic methyl and methylene, C=O stretching of amide groups, aromatic C=C, strong H-bond C=O of conjugated ketones and O-H deformation and C- O stretching of phenolics and secondary alcohols of the peat samples from industrial cutaway bog samples than in the grassland and forest plantation samples. The hydrophobicity and the aromaticity of the soil organic matter (SOM) are significantly impacted by land use changes, with a trend of order active bog > forest plantation > industrial cutaway bog > grassland. A comparison of the degree of decomposition index of the peat from active bog showed a more advanced state of peat degradation in grassland and industrial cutaway bog and, to a lesser extent, in forest plantation.

Abstract
(1) Background: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a disease caused by noninfectious chronic inflammation characterized by varying degrees of inflammation affecting the colon or its entire mucosal surface. Current therapeutic strategies rely on the suppression of the immune response, which is effective, but can have detrimental effects. Recently, different plant polysaccharides and their degradation products have received increasing attention due to their prominent biological activities. The aim of this research was to evaluate the mitigation of inflammation exhibited by tamarind seed polysaccharide hydrolysate (TSPH) ingestion in colitis mice. (2) Methods: TSPH was obtained from the hydrolysis of tamarind seed polysaccharide (TSP) by trifluoroacetic acid (TFA). The structure and physical properties of TSPH were characterized by ultraviolet spectroscopy (UV), thin-layer chromatography (TLC), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography and Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry (HPLC-ESI/MS) analysis. Then, the alleviative effects of the action of TSPH on 2.5% dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis mice were investigated. (3) Results: TSPH restored pathological lesions in the colon and inhibited the over-secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines in UC mice. The relative expression level of mRNA for colonic tight junction proteins was increased. These findings suggested that TSPH could reduce inflammation in the colon. Additionally, the structure of the gut microbiota was also altered, with beneficial bacteria, including Prevotella and Blautia, significantly enriched by TSPH. Moreover, the richness of Blautia was positively correlated with acetic acid. (4) Conclusions: In conclusion, TSPH suppressed colonic inflammation, alleviated imbalances in the intestinal flora and regulated bacterial metabolites. Thus, this also implies that TSPH has the potential to be a functional food against colitis.

Abstract
In this study, the corrosion inhibition performance of the natural polysaccharide guar gum (GG) for N80 carbon steel in CO2-saturated saline solution at different temperatures and immersion times was investigated by weight loss and electrochemical measurements. The results have revealed that GG showed good inhibition performance at lower and higher temperatures. The inhibition efficiency observed via weight loss measurements reached 76.16 and 63.19% with 0.4 g L-1 of GG, at 25 and 50 °C, respectively. The inhibition efficiency of GG increased as the inhibitor concentration and immersion time increased but decreased with increasing temperature. EIS measurements have shown that, even after prolonged exposure, GG was still able to protect the metal surface. Potentiodynamic measurements showed the mixed-type nature of GG inhibitive action. The Temkin and Dubinin-Radushkevich adsorption isotherm models give accurate fitting of the estimated data, and the calculated parameters indicated that the adsorption of GG occurred mainly via an electrostatic or physical adsorption process. The associated activation energy (Ea) and the heat of adsorption (Qa) supported the physical adsorption nature of GG. FTIR analysis was used to explain the adsorption interaction between the inhibitor and the N80 carbon steel surface. SEM-EDS and AFM confirmed the adsorption of GG and the formation of an adsorptive layer of GG on the metal surface.

Abstract
Melon seed oil (MSO) possesses plenty of long-chain fatty acids (LFCAs, oleic-linoleic acid 90%), remarkable antioxidant activity (DPPH (0.37 ± 0.40 µmol TE/g), ABTS (4.98 ± 0.18 µmol TE/g), FRAP (0.99 ± 0.02 µmol TE/g), and CUPRAC (4.94 ± 0.11 µmol TE/g)), and phenolic content (70.14 ± 0.53 mg GAE/100 g). Encapsulation is a sound technology to provide thermal stability and controlled release attributes to functional compounds such as plant seed oil. Nano-sized and micro-sized capsules harboring MSO were generated by utilizing thin film dispersion, spray drying, and lyophilization strategies. Fourier infrared transform analysis (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and particle size analyses were used for the authentication and morphological characterization of the samples. Spray drying and lyophilization effectuated the formation of microscale capsules (2660 ± 14 nm, 3140 ± 12 nm, respectively), while liposomal encapsulation brought about the development of nano-capsules (282.30 ± 2.35 nm). Nano-liposomal systems displayed significant thermal stability compared to microcapsules. According to in vitro release studies, microcapsules started to release MSO in simulated salivary fluid (SSF) and this continued in gastric (SGF) and intestinal (SIF) environments. There was no oil release for nano-liposomes in SSF, while limited release was observed in SGF and the highest release was observed in SIF. The results showed that nano-liposomal systems featured MSO thermal stability and controlled the release attributes in the gastrointestinal system (GIS) tract.

Abstract
Since ancient times, medicinal plants have been used as traditional medicine to treat a variety of ailments. Aloe vera (AV) gel's therapeutic potential is one of the most effective approach in the fabrication of functional materials. The current study aimed to prepare the AV and chitosan (CS) membranes using various cross-linkers that were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Visible) techniques, as well as swelling ratio and antimicrobial studies. SEM analysis revealed that the membrane is porous, with interconnected pores. The inclusion of AV contents in the membrane improved thermal stability and crystallinity. The swelling ratio of the ACPG-3 membrane with a 2:1 CS to AV ratio was 366%. The membranes showed promising antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, and Pasteurella multocida strains. The findings revealed that polymeric CS/AV membranes have effective potential for use in the biomedical field.

Abstract
Background & Objectives The intricate process of wound healing involves replacing the cellular or tissue structure that has been destroyed. In recent years various wound dressings were launched but reported several limitations. The topical gel preparations are intended for certain skin wound conditions for local action. Chitosan-based hemostatic materials are the most effective in halting acute hemorrhage, and naturally occurring silk fibroin is widely utilized for tissue regeneration. So, this study was conducted to evaluate the potential of chitosan hydrogel(CHI-HYD) and chitosan silk fibroin hydrogel (CHI-SF-HYD) on blood clotting and wound healing. Methods Hydrogel was prepared using various concentrations of silk fibroin with guar gum as a gelling agent. The optimized formulations were evaluated for visual appearance, Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), pH, spreadability, viscosity, antimicrobial activity, HR-TEM analysis, ex vivo skin permeation, skin irritation, stability studies, and in vivo studies by using adult male Wistar albino rats. Results Based on the outcome of FT-IR, no chemical interaction between the components was noticed. The developed hydrogels exhibited a viscosity of 79.2 ± 4.2 Pa.s (CHI-HYD), 79.8 ± 3.8 Pa.s (CHI-SF-HYD), and pH of 5.87 ± 0.2 (CHI-HYD), 5.96 ± 0.1 (CHI-SF-HYD). The prepared hydrogels were sterile and non-irritant to the skin. The in vivo study outcomes show that the CHI-SF-HYD treated group has significantly shortened the span of tissue reformation than other groups. This demonstrated that the CHI-SF-HYD could consequently accelerate the regeneration of the damaged area. Interpretation & Conclusion Overall, the positive outcomes revealed improved blood coagulation and re-epithelialization. This indicates that the CHI-SF-HYD could be used to develop novel wound-healing devices.

Abstract
Currently, a variety of binders are developed to inhibit the rapid capacity fading of Si. The Si anodes are mainly enhanced by the chemical bonding effect on the surface of conventional solid-state binders. However, with a huge volume change of silicon, solid binders are easily deactivated. Herein, a semi-fluid binder termed GPC is designed based on a viscoelastic crosslinking network with abundant active sites and self-healing performance. The backbone of the binder network is in situ synthesized using guar gum (GG), polyacrylic acid (PAA), and citric acid (CA). Serving as the flexible joints and the plasticizer of the network, CA small molecules remarkably improve the viscoelasticity of the binder to tolerate the volume change of Si via rearranging particles in the network during cycling. Moreover, CA can form a layer of surface coating on Si to stabilize the SEI for long-term electrochemical performance. As a result, the Si@GPC electrode shows excellent cycling stability and exhibits a superb capacity of 1292 mA h g-1 after 1000 cycles at 2 A g-1. This work illustrates the advantages and prospects of designing semi-fluid binders for high-performance batteries.

Abstract
The volume change of the silicon anode seriously affects the electrode integrity and cycle stability. Herein, a binder, GCA13, with energy dissipation function and surface stability effect is proposed to enhance the cycle life and specific capacity. Unlike traditional binders that protect silicon electrodes through long-chain networks, GCA13 introduces citric acid molecules with short-range functions on the long-chain guar gum through weak interconnection. This short-range action is similar to the function of a spring, which can effectively buffer the silicon particle pulverization caused by the volume change. Therefore, the electrode can effectively maintain structural integration with ignorable cracks and alleviated thickness swelling. Thus, the Si@GCA13 anode exhibits a high reversible capacity of 1184 mAh g-1 under 2 A g-1 after 740 cycles with a latter coulombic efficiency of 99.9%. Extraordinarily, benefiting from the superior properties of the GCA13 binder, the electrode shows remarkable cycling stability under low (-15 and 0 °C) and high temperatures (60 °C). The work demonstrates the great potential of this binder design strategy to achieve the overall property promotion of Si anodes for practical application even under harsh service conditions.

Abstract
Since the number of antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections is growing and cases are getting worse every year, the search for new alternative bactericidal wound dressing treatments is becoming crucial. Within this context, the use of polysaccharides from plants and seeds in innovative biopolymer technologies is of key importance. In this work, bio-nano-composite guar gum/polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) membranes loaded with aluminum-doped zinc oxide nanoparticles were produced via electrospinning. Citric acid was added to the mixture to increase spinnability. However, depending on the pH, zinc oxide nanoparticles are partially dissociated, decreasing their bactericidal efficiency. Thus, a second successful alkaline thermo-chemical regrowth step was added to the process to treat the obtained fibers. This alkaline thermo-chemical treatment reconstituted both the nanoparticles and their bactericidal properties. The Staphylococcus aureus antibacterial assay results show that the membranes obtained after the alkaline thermo-chemical treatment presented a 57% increase in growth inhibition.

Abstract
AbstractThis work deals with the study of the anticorrosion behavior of a biopolymer, namely Guar Gum (GG) and its composite on mild steel (MS) in sulfamic acid (SA) solution using electrochemical techniques. GG was found to be a potential inhibitor relatively at its higher concentration and showed maximum inhibition efficiency (IE) of 74% at 3 g/L (3000 ppm). To improve its IE, exfoliated graphite oxide (xGO)/GG polymer composite was prepared, and its inhibition property was assessed in 1 M SA solution at different temperatures by weight loss method (WL). The chemical structure of xGO/GG polymer composite was examined by FT-IR, and the morphology was inspected by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy study, and energy dispersive spectroscopy technique. xGO/GG polymer composite emerged as an efficient corrosion inhibitor for MS as marked from the outcomes of the electrochemical investigations and showed improved IE of 93% at 0.6 g/L (600 ppm) when compared to GG. Experimental results found by WL measurements are used to evaluate the thermodynamic parameters at various temperatures. Further, a Box-Behnken composite design with three factors and three levels has been used to minimize the experimental conditions. The IE was enhanced with the increase in the inhibitor concentration as observed from the main effect plot. The maximum IE of 84.21% was projected by the response surface method (RSM) with temperature (A = 30 °C), inhibitor concentration (B = 600 ppm), and time (C = 1 h).

Abstract
Locust bean gum is derived from the seed endosperm of the Ceratonia siliqua carob tree and is known as locust bean or carob gum. Food, medicines, paper, textile, oil drilling, and cosmetic sectors all use it as an ingredient. Hydrogen bonding with water molecules makes locust bean gum useful in industrial settings. In addition, its dietary fibre activity helps regulate numerous health issues, including diabetes, bowel motions, heart disease and colon cancer. Locust bean gum production, processing, composition, characteristics, culinary applications, and health advantages are the subject of this article.

Abstract
Superabsorbent polymers derived from petroleum have been widely used as the primary component of high-water-absorption disposable sanitary products. However, environmental concerns as well as unstable market prices influence the quality of disposable hygiene products. The development of superabsorbent polymers from natural, non-petroleum-derived materials has become more predominant. In the present study, two borax-cross-linked carboxymethyl guar-based superabsorbents with bentonite (CMG-Bt) and fumed silica particle reinforcement (CMG-Bt-Si) were synthesized. The materials have been fully characterized by various techniques. The swelling behavior was studied through free swelling capacity (FSC) and centrifuge retention capacity (CRC). The swelling kinetics and urea absorption capacity were further analyzed. The effects of the cross-linking ratio, mineral clay, silica particles, and pH of the liquids on the swelling properties of the superabsorbents have been studied. The incorporation of silica particles demonstrated a positive effect on water uptake reaching 78.63 and 41.09 g/g of FSC and CRC, respectively, at an optimum pH of 6.8. The optimum swelling kinetics were attributed to CMG-Bt-Si of 5 wt % silica particle content, indicating a velocity parameter (ζ) of 41 s in saline solution. Finally, the highest swelling values were obtained at 10, 10, and 5 wt % for the cross-linking ratio, bentonite content, and silica particle content, respectively; in addition, the absorption of urea by the CMG-Bt-Si material was also confirmed.

Abstract
This study targets the synthesis of novel semi-interpenetrating networks and amphiphilic conetworks, where hydrophilic soft matter (Gellan Gum, GG) was combined with hydrophobic rigid poly(styrene), PSt. To achieve that, GG was chemically modified with 4-vinyl benzyl chloride to form a reactive macromonomer with multiple double bonds. These double bonds were used in a copolymerization with styrene to initially form semi-interpenetrating networks (SIPNs) where linear PSt was intertwined within the GG-PSt conetwork. The interpenetrating linear PSt and unreacted styrene were extracted over 3 consecutive days with yields 18–24%. After the extraction, the resulting conetworks (yields 76–82%) were able to swell both in organic and aqueous media. Thermo-mechanical tests (thermal gravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, and dynamic mechanical analysis) and rheology indicated that both SIPNs and conteworks had, in most cases, improved thermal and mechanical properties compared to pure poly(styrene) and pure GG gels. This crosslinking strategy proved that the reactive combination of a synthetic polymer and a bio-derived constituent would result in the formation of more sustainable materials with improved thermo-mechanical properties. The binding ability of the amphiphilic conetworks towards several organic dyes was high, showing that they could be used as potential materials in environmental clean-up.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Tara gum (TG) is characterized by its high viscosity and medium solubility, which is a result of its high molecular mass. However, for many applications, these characteristics are undesirable, making the use of TG infeasible. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of high-intensity ultrasound on the depolymerization of aqueous solutions of TG. The effect of ultrasonication was investigated by viscometry analysis as well as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and solubility. RESULTS The intrinsic viscosity (η) and the molecular weight (Mw ) of TG decreased after ultrasound, achieving a molecular weight reduction of 13.50 × 105 g mol-1 after 60 min of sonication at 25 °C compared to 22.04 × 105 g mol-1 before treatment. Degradation kinetics were applied to estimate the rate constant of degradation (k). It was found that the k value of TG increased with increasing temperature from 25 to 55 °C. Partially hydrolyzed TG showed greater solubility at the two temperatures investigated (25 and 80 °C). Ultrasonic treatment did not change the chemical structure of the TG molecules according to the structural analysis by FTIR, confirming its action only as breaking the structure of the polymer. CONCLUSION Ultrasound is a simple method for effectively reducing the molecular weight and viscosity and increasing the solubility of TG without using chemical reagents. The synthesis of partially hydrolyzed TG expands its potential for use in food products, including as a soluble dietary fiber. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
AbstractIn the current study, the performance of superabsorbent hydrogel composites comprised of Guar gum-Pectin/Polyacrylamide/ZnO crosslinked with gamma irradiation (10 kGy) has been investigated for sustainable agriculture. The claimed composites (GG/PC/PAAm/ZnOx) were characterized by FTIR, TGA, and AFM. The swelling capacity data reveal that the equilibrium water swelling (EW) of the composites was increased by increasing the ZnO content from 600 to 1050 g/g for zero to the highest concentration of ZnO, respectively. Furthermore, the physical properties of the soil mixed with the hydrogels were improved; water holding capacity (WHC) increased to 66% and water retention (WR) kept at 15% after 20 days. The composites showed a good degradability in the biodegradation test. They also portrayed super-absorption capacity at three swelling/deswelling cycles. This advancement is important for reducing water consumption through the irrigation of arid lands. The prepared composites were proved as excellent candidates in sustainable agriculture applications.

Abstract
Currently, hydrogels are considered as ideal biomaterials due to their unique structure and characteristics that facilitates considerable hydrophilicity, swelling, drug loading and release. In this study, we report pH-responsive GG-MAA-AMPS hydrogel delivery system prepared via free radical polymerization technique. Hydrogels were loaded with Metformin HCl as a model drug. Hydrogels were characterized through Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). FTIR confirmed the successful crosslinking of reactants, hydrogel network formation and drug loading. TGA and DSC proved the higher thermal stability of reactants after crosslinking and drug loading. XRD analysis showed decrease in crystallinity of drug after loading into the hydrogels. SEM revealed smooth and glassy appearance of both loaded and unloaded hydrogels. Gel content was increased with increase in concentration of reactants. Drug entrapment was decreased by increasing concentration of GG and AMPS while MAA acted inversely. Hydrogels displayed pH-dependent swelling and drug release behavior being high at pH 6.8 and 7.4 while low at acidic pH (1.2). Oral tolerability in rabbits showed that hydrogels were safe without causing any hematological or histopathological changes in healthy rabbits. Based on the obtained results, GG-MAA-AMPS can be considered as potential carrier for metformin HCl as well as other hydrophilic drugs.

Abstract
In the present research, the synergistic effect of Arabic and guar gum inhibitors on the corrosion efficiency of concrete reinforcement was investigated. Thus, eight types of Arabic and guar gum combinations with 100, 250, 500, 750, and 1000 ppm were added to the steel reinforcement for 1, 7, 28, 48, and 72 days. The corrosion behavior of the samples was investigated by the electrochemical impedance (EIS) test. Water transmissibility, electrical resistivity, and compressive strength of concrete were also studied. The results showed that adding inhibitors generally increased the compressive strength of concrete. It was also found that water transmissibility was reduced by the addition of inhibitors. The electrical resistivity of the samples increased slightly with increasing time up to 72 days. EIS and Tafel results have demonstrated that Arabic and guar gums are effective inhibitors for reinforced concrete structures. Furthermore, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) utilized to analyze the samples indicated that inhibitor grain size was enhanced by enhancing the concentration of the inhibitor combination, showing that the guar and Arabic inhibitor combinations were properly absorbed on the reinforcement surface. Results showed that a sample with 250 ppm Arabic gum and 250 ppm guar gum having a properly distributed inhibitor combination on the reinforcement surface creates a desirable cathode current.
