Abstract
Prostate cancer (PCa) is the second most common male cancer and is attributable to over 375,000 deaths annually. Prostate specific antigen (PSA) is a key biomarker for PCa and therefore measuring patient PSA levels is an important aspect of the diagnostic pathway. Automated immunoassays are currently utilized for PSA analysis, but they require a laboratory setting with specialized equipment and trained personnel. This results in high diagnostic costs, extended therapeutic turnaround times, and restrictions on testing capabilities in resource-limited settings. Consequently, there is a strong drive to develop point-of-care (PoC) PSA tests that can offer accurate, low-cost, and rapid results at the time and place of the patient. However, many emerging PoC tests experience a trade-off between accuracy, affordability, and accessibility which distinctly limits their translational potential. This review comprehensively assesses the translational advantages and limitations of emerging laboratory-level and commercial PoC tests for PSA determination. Electrochemical and optical PSA sensors from 2013 to 2023 are systematically examined. Furthermore, we suggest how the translational potential of emerging tests can be optimized to achieve clinical implementation and thus improve PCa diagnosis globally.

Abstract
Analyzing the levels of anticancer medications in biological samples and body fluids reveals important details on the course and effects of chemotherapy. p (L-Cys)/graphitic-carbon nitride (g-C3N4)/GCE, a modified glassy carbon electrode, was created for the current study's electrochemical detection of methotrexate (MTX), a drug used to treat breast cancer, in pharmaceutical fluid samples. l-Cysteine was electro-polymerized on the surface of the g-C3N4/GCE after the g-C3N4 was first modified to prepare the p (L-Cys)/g-C3N4/GCE. Analyses of morphology and structure showed that well-crystalline p (L-Cys) on g-C3N4/GCE was successfully electropolymerized. Studying the electrochemical characteristics of p (L-Cys)/g-C3N4/GCE using CV and DPV techniques revealed a synergistic impact between g-C3N4 and l-cysteine that improved the stability and selectivity of the electrochemical oxidation of MTX while enhancing the electrochemical signal. Results showed that 7.5-780 μM was the linear range, and that 0.11841 μA/μM and 6 nM, respectively, were the sensitivity and limit of detection. The applicability of the suggested sensors was assessed using real pharmaceutical preparations, and the results showed that p (L-Cys)/g-C3N4/GCE had a high degree of precision. Five breast cancer patients who volunteered and provided prepared blood serum samples between the ages of 35 and 50 were used to examine the validity and accuracy of the proposed sensor in the current work for the determination of MTX. The results showed good recovery values (greater than 97.20%), appropriate accuracy (RSD less than 5.11%), and good agreement between the ELISA and DPV analysis results. These findings showed that p (L-Cys)/g-C3N4/GCE can be applied as a trustworthy MTX sensor for MTX level monitoring in blood samples and pharmaceutical samples.

Abstract
Diagnosis of cancer in the early stages can help treat efficiently and reduce cancerrelated
death. Cancer biomarkers can respond to the presence of cancer in body fluids before the
appearance of any other symptoms of cancer. The integration of nanomaterials into biosensors as
electrochemical platforms offer rapid, sensitive detection for cancer biomarkers. The use of surface-
modified electrodes by carbon nanomaterials and metal nanoparticles enhances the performance
of electrochemical analysis in biosensing systems through the increase of bioreceptors loading
capacity on the surface. In this review, novel approaches based on nanomaterial-modified systems
in the point of care diagnostics are highlighted.

Abstract
Prostate cancer (PCa), the second most malignant neoplasm in men, is also the fifth leading cause of cancer-related deaths in men globally. Unfortunately, this malignancy remains largely asymptomatic until late-stage emergence when treatment is limited due to the lack of effective metastatic PCa therapeutics. Due to these limitations, early PCa detection through prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening has become increasingly important, resulting in a more than 50% decrease in mortality. Conventional assays for PSA detection, such as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), are labor intensive, relatively expensive, operator-dependent and do not provide adequate sensitivity. Electrochemical biosensors overcome these limitations because they are rapid, cost-effective, simple to use and ultrasensitive. This article reviews electrochemical PSA biosensors using electroconductive nanomaterials such as carbon-, metal-, metal oxide- and peptide-based nanostructures, as well as polymers to significantly improve conductivity and enhance sensitivity. Challenges associated with the development of these devices are discussed thus providing additional insight into their analytic strength as well as their potential use in early PCa detection.

Abstract
The identification of rice bacterial leaf blight disease requires a simple, rapid, highly sensitive, and quantitative approach that can be applied as an early detection monitoring tool in rice health. This paper highlights the development of a turn-off fluorescence-based immunoassay for the early detection of Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo), a gram-negative bacterium that causes rice bacterial leaf blight disease. Antibodies against Xoo bacterial cells were produced as specific bio-recognition molecules and the conjugation of these antibodies with graphene quantum dots and gold nanoparticles was performed and characterized, respectively. The combination of both these bio-probes as a fluorescent donor and metal quencher led to changes in the fluorescence signal. The immunoreaction between AntiXoo-GQDs, Xoo cells, and AntiXoo-AuNPs in the immuno-aggregation complex led to the energy transfer in the turn-off fluorescence-based quenching system. The change in fluorescence intensity was proportional to the logarithm of Xoo cells in the range of 100-105 CFU mL-1. The limit of detection was achieved at 22 CFU mL-1 and the specificity test against other plant disease pathogens showed high specificity towards Xoo. The detection of Xoo in real plant samples was also performed in this study and demonstrated satisfactory results.

Abstract
Due to the proliferative cancer rates, cardiovascular diseases, neurodegenerative disorders, autoimmune diseases and a plethora of infections across the globe, it is essential to introduce strategies that can rapidly and specifically detect the ultralow concentrations of relevant biomarkers, pathogens, toxins and pharmaceuticals in biological matrices. Considering these pathophysiologies, various research works have become necessary to fabricate biosensors for their early diagnosis and treatment, using nanomaterials like quantum dots (QDs). These nanomaterials effectively ameliorate the sensor performance with respect to their reproducibility, selectivity as well as sensitivity. In particular, graphene quantum dots (GQDs), which are ideally graphene fragments of nanometer size, constitute discrete features such as acting as attractive fluorophores and excellent electro-catalysts owing to their photo-stability, water-solubility, biocompatibility, non-toxicity and lucrativeness that make them favorable candidates for a wide range of novel biomedical applications. Herein, we reviewed about 300 biomedical studies reported over the last five years which entail the state of art as well as some pioneering ideas with respect to the prominent role of GQDs, especially in the development of optical, electrochemical and photoelectrochemical biosensors. Additionally, we outline the ideal properties of GQDs, their eclectic methods of synthesis, and the general principle behind several biosensing techniques.

Abstract
Prostate cancer is one of the most dangerous and deadly cancers in elderly men. Early diagnosis using prostate-specific antigen (PSA) facilitates disease detection, management and treatment. Biosensors have recently been used as sensitive, selective, inexpensive and rapid diagnostic tools for PSA detection. In this review, a variety of PSA biosensors such as aptasensors, peptisensors and immunesensors are highlighted. These use aptamers, peptides and antibodies in the biorecognition element, respectively, and can detect PSA with very high sensitivity via electrochemical, electrochemiluminescence, fluorescence and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy. To improve the sensitivity of most of these PSA biosensors, different nanostructured materials have played a critical role.

Abstract
This review, with 201 references, describes the recent advancement in the application of carbonaceous nanomaterials as highly conductive platforms in electrochemical biosensing. The electrochemical biosensing is described in introduction by classifying biosensors into catalytic-based and affinity-based biosensors and statistically demonstrates the most recent published works in each category. The introduction is followed by sections on electrochemical biosensors configurations and common carbonaceous nanomaterials applied in electrochemical biosensing, including graphene and its derivatives, carbon nanotubes, mesoporous carbon, carbon nanofibers and carbon nanospheres. In the following sections, carbonaceous catalytic-based and affinity-based biosensors are discussed in detail. In the category of catalytic-based biosensors, a comparison between enzymatic biosensors and non-enzymatic electrochemical sensors is carried out. Regarding the affinity-based biosensors, scholarly articles related to biological elements such as antibodies, deoxyribonucleic acids (DNAs) and aptamers are discussed in separate sections. The last section discusses recent advancements in carbonaceous screen-printed electrodes as a growing field in electrochemical biosensing. Tables are presented that give an overview on the diversity of analytes, type of materials and the sensors performance. Ultimately, general considerations, challenges and future perspectives in this field of science are discussed. Recent findings suggest that interests towards 2D nanostructured electrodes based on graphene and its derivatives are still growing in the field of electrochemical biosensing. That is because of their exceptional electrical conductivity, active surface area and more convenient production methods compared to carbon nanotubes. Graphical abstract Schematic representation of carbonaceous nanomaterials used in electrochemical biosensing. The content is classified into non-enzymatic sensors and affinity/ catalytic biosensors. Recent publications are tabulated and compared, considering materials, target, limit of detection and linear range of detection.

Abstract
Ovarian cancer is the first and most important cause of malignancy death in women. Mucin 16 or MUC16 protein also known as carcinoma antigen 125 (CA 125) is the most commonly used glycoprotein for early stage diagnosis of ovarian cancer. In this work, a novel paper-based bio-device through hand writing of Ag/RGO (silver nanoparticles/reduced graphene oxide) nano-ink on the flexible paper substrate using pen-on-paper technology was developed. The prepared interface was used to the recognition of CA 125 protein in human biofluid. For this purpose, Ag/rGO nano-ink was synthesized by deposition of Ag nanoparticles onto graphene oxide sheets and the reduction of graphene oxide to rGO simultaneously. Conductivity and resistance of conductive lines were studied after drawing on photographic paper. Subsequently, to prepare a new and unique immuno-device, paper electrode modified by cysteamine caped gold nanoparticles (CysA/Au NPs) using electrochemical techniques. CysA is bonded by sulfur atoms with Au (CysA/Au NPs), and from the amine group with hydroxyl and carboxyl groups of Ag/RGO nano-ink deposited on the surface of paper-based electrodes (CysA/Au NPs/Ag-rGO). Then, anti-CA 125 antibody was immobilized on the electrode surface through Au NPs and CA 125 positively charged amine groups interaction. Atomic force microscopy, Transmission electron microscopy, Field emission scanning electron microscopy, and dynamic light scattering, were performed to identify the engineered immunosensor. Using chronoamperometry technique and under the optimized conditions, the low limit of quantitation (LLOQ) for the proposed immunoassay was recorded as 0.78 U/ml, which this evaluation was performed at highly linear range of 0.78-400 U/ml. The high sensitivity of the electrochemical immunosensor device is indicative of the ability of this immuno-device to detect early stages ovarian cancer.

Abstract
Non-invasive diagnosis of cancer is often the key to effective treatment and patient survival. Saliva as a multi-constituent oral fluid comprises various disease signaling biomarkers, holds great potential for early-stage cancer diagnostics with cost-effective and easy collection, storage, transport and processing. Therefore, detection of biomarkers and proteins in the saliva samples is highly demand. The current review was performed using reliable internet database (mainly PubMed) to provide an overview of the most recent developments on non-invasive diagnosis of cancers in saliva and highlights main challenges and future prospects in sensing of the salivary biomarkers. The conventional detection methods of cancer biomarkers in saliva is discussed in the paper, however, the main focus is on non-invasive diagnosis of cancers in saliva using immunosensing (electrochemical, optical, piezoelectric), DNA based sensors, aptasensors and peptide based bio-assays The reviewed literature revealed that non-invasive cancer detection methods using the mentioned biosensors and without any processing of saliva sample offers a quick, sensitive, specific and cost effective analytical tool. Besides, salivary based detection methods can be used for simultaneous detection of panels of disease specific biomarkers in a real time manner or as home testing kits in near future.

Abstract
Chitosan has a number of commercial and possible biomedical uses. Chitosan as a polysaccharide is a bioactive polymer with a variety of applications due to its functional properties such as antibacterial activity, non-toxicity, ease of modification, and biodegradability. In this work, cross-linked chitosan/thiolated graphene quantum dot as a biocompatible polysaccharide was modified by gold nanoparticle and used for immobilization of ractopamine (RAC) aptamer. A highly specific DNA-aptamer (5'-SH-AAAAAGTGCGGGC-3'), selected to RAC was immobilized onto thiolated graphene quantum dots (GQDs)-chitosan (CS) nanocomposite modified by gold nanostructures (Au NSs) and used for quantification of RAC. Different shapes of gold nanostructures with various sizes from zero-dimensional nanoparticles to spherical structures were prepared by one-step template-assistant green electrodeposition method. Fully electrochemical methodology was used to prepare a new transducer on a glassy carbon surface which provided a high surface area to immobilize a high amount of the aptamer. Therefore, a label free electrochemical (EC) apta-assay for ultrasensitive detection of RAC was developed. A special immobilization media consisting of Au NSs/GQDs-CS/Cysteamine (CysA) was utilized to improve conductivity and performance of the biosensor. The RAC aptamer was attached on the Au NSs of the composite membrane via AuS bond. The fabrication process of the EC aptamer based assay was characterized by some electrochemical techniques. The peak currents obtained by differential pulse voltammetry decreased linearly with the increasing of RAC concentrations and the apta-assay responds approximately over a wide dynamic range of RAC concentration from 0.0044 fM to 19.55 μM. The low limit of quantification was 0.0044 fM.

Abstract
The rapid and accurate determination of the level of taurine biomarker in various tissues and body fluids can be of great interest in the early diagnosis of several important pathologies and diseases. In the present study, an innovative electrochemical interface for quantitation of taurine based on ternary signal amplification strategy was fabricated. In this work, silver nanoparticles were electrodeposited onto green and biocompatible nanocomposite containing α-cyclodextrin as conductive matrix. Therefore, a double layer film based on α-cyclodextrin and silver nanoparticles was exploited to develop a highly sensitive electrochemical sensor for detection of taurine. Fully electrochemical methodology was used to prepare a transducer on a glassy carbon electrode which provided a high surface area towards sensitive detection of taurine biomarker. The surface morphology of electrode surface was characterized by high-resolution field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). The proposed sensing platform provides a simple tool for taurine detection. The calibration curve for taurine concentration was linear in 0.7 nM to 0.1 mM with low limit of quantification of 0.7 nM. Abstract
Aflatoxins are potential food pollutants produced by fungi. One of important toxins is aflatoxin M1 (AFM1). A great deal of concern is associated with AFM1 toxicity. In the present study, an innovative electrochemical interface for quantitation of AFM1 based on ternary signal amplification strategy was fabricated. In this work, silver nanoparticles was electrodeposited onto green and biocompatible nanocomposite containing α-cyclodextrin as conductive matrix and graphene quantum dots as amplification element. Therefore, a multilayer film based on α-cyclodextrin, graphene quantum dots, and silver nanoparticles was exploited to develop a highly sensitive electrochemical sensor for detection of AFM1. Fully electrochemical methodology was used to prepare a transducer on a glassy carbon electrode, which provided a high surface area toward sensitive detection of AFM1. The surface morphology of electrode surface was characterized by high-resolution field emission scanning electron microscope. The proposed sensing platform provides a simple tool for AFM1 detection. Under optimized condition, the calibration curve for AFM1 concentration was linear in 0.015mM to 25mM with low limit of quantification of 2μM. The practical analytical utility of the modified electrode was illustrated by determination of AFM1 in unprocessed milk samples.
