Abstract
Background In the last 15 years, an increase in U.S. female dermatologists from 41 to 52.2% and a surge in female authorship (FAP) have been noted. Authorship is a pivotal objective measurement of academic productivity and, contribution as first or senior author, plays a major role in the promotion process of active physicians and faculty members. Objective To validate, analyze, and clarify trends in FAP in high-quality dermatology research in the last 15 years. Methods The Thomson Reuters Web of Science Journal Citation Reports 2021 was used to retrieve the 100 most-cited original articles from the top 5 dermatology journals (determined by 2021 impact factors) in 5 consecutive 3-year intervals between 2009 and 2023. Gender application programming interface, a gender algorithm, was used to identify FAP according to country of origin and first name. Monotonic trend test significance level was set at 5%. Results In total, 14,187 articles were retrieved and subdivided into the 100 most-cited in 3-year intervals. A total of 418 first and 447 senior authors' gender were identified. FAP was found in 43%, 31%, and 37% of the first, last, and total authors. Trend analysis revealed a decrease in the last 15 years (S = -4610, P = .068) in senior FAP. Similarly, the trend persists in the United States (S = -1606, P = .052). Limitations Due to the usage of a binary gender identification algorithm, Nonbinary gender could not be identified in this analysis. Conclusion The last 15 years show an inverse relationship, with an increase in female dermatologists and a decrease in senior FAP in high-quality journals in the general dermatology community.

Abstract
PURPOSE The top citation article reflects the developmental milestone of a given field. The purpose of this bibliometric analysis was to identify and assess the 100 most-cited (T100) articles on the epigenetics mechanism of epilepsy. METHODS The Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database was used to investigate, and search terms related to epilepsy epigenetics were compiled. Results were ranked according to citation number. The publication year, citation density, authorship, journal, country, institution, manuscript type, theme, and clinical topics were further evaluated. RESULTS The Web of Science search returned a total of 1231 manuscripts. The number of citations for a manuscript ranges from 739 to 75. The greatest number of manuscripts in the top 100 was published in the Human Molecular Genetics and Neurobiology of Disease (n = 4). The journal with the highest 2021 impact factor was Nature Medicine (IF = 87.244). The most-cited paper by Aid et al. reported a new nomenclature for mouse and rat BDNF gene and its expression profiles. Most manuscripts were original articles (n = 69), of which 52 (75.4%) report findings of basic scientific work. The most prevalent theme was microRNA (n = 29), and the most popular clinical topic was temporal lobe epilepsy (n = 13). CONCLUSIONS The research on the epigenetics mechanism of epilepsy was in its infancy but full of potential. The developmental history and current achievements of hot themes, including microRNA, DNA methylation, and temporal lobe epilepsy, were overviewed. This bibliometric analysis provides useful information and insight for researchers when launching new projects.

Abstract
One of the main causes of death is out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA), which has a poor prognosis and poor neurological outcomes. This phenomenon has attracted increasing attention. However, there is still no published bibliometric analysis of OHCA. This bibliometric analysis of publications on OHCA aimed to visualize the current status of research, determine the frontiers of research, and identify future trends. Publications on OHCA were downloaded from the web of science database. The data elements included year, countries/territories, institutions, authors, journals, research areas, citations of publications, etc. Joinpoint regression and exponential models were used to identify and predict the trend of publications, respectively. Knowledge domain maps were applied to conduct contribution and collaboration, cooccurrence, cocitation, and coupled analyses. Timeline and burst detection analysis were used to identify the frontiers in the field. A total of 3 219 publications on OHCA were found from 1998 to 2022 (average annual percentage change = 16.7; 95% CI 14.4, 19.1). It was estimated that 859 articles and reviews would be published in 2025. The following research hotpots were identified: statement, epidemiology, clinical care, factors influencing prognosis and emergency medical services. The research frontier identification revealed that 7 categories were classified, including therapeutic hypothermia, emergency medical services, airway management, myocardial infarction, extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation, stroke foundation and trial. The burst detection analysis revealed that percutaneous coronary intervention, neurologic outcome, COVID-19 and extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation are issues that should be given continual attention in the future. This bibliometric analysis may reflect the current status and future frontiers of OHCA research.

Abstract
PURPOSE To systematically summarize the research trends and emphases of ROP in the past decades by analyzing the characteristics of the top 100 cited ROP articles. METHODS The 100 most cited articles on ROP published from January 1, 1950 to December 31, 2021 were searched by Web of Science. Information such as year of publication, number of citations, journal and impact factor, type of research and topic, country of origin, institution and authorship of each article was extracted to analyze its characteristics. RESULTS A total of 15,928 articles were returned. These articles were published in 43 journals between 1952 and 2018, originating from 14 countries. The most widely published journal was Pediatrics (n = 19, IF = 8.109), followed by Archives of Ophthalmology (n = 15, IF = 4.399). The most cited paper (Gole et al. Archives of Ophthalmology 2005 Jul, 1614 citations) reported on the international classification of ROP. The most prevalent topic was the pathophysiology of ROP (n = 39), followed by the treatment of ROP (n = 32). Most were original research (n = 72), mainly based on research design of basic science. The most published articles were published in the United States (n = 61), and the institutions were Oregon Health & Science University, Dept Ophthalmol (n = 7). CONCLUSIONS These 100 most frequently cited papers reflect the significant progress and several hot topics of ROP in recent decades, and this paper will help us further understand the knowledge and progress of ROP diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract
The aim of the study was to characterise the most frequently cited articles on the topic of hearing implants. A systematic search was carried out using the Thomson Reuters Web of Science Core Collection database. Eligibility criteria restricted the results to primary studies and reviews published from 1970 to 2022 in English dealing primarily with hearing implants. Data including the authors, year of publication, journal, country of origin, number of citations and average number of citations per year were extracted, as well as the impact factors and five-year impact factor of journals publishing the articles. The top 100 papers were published across 23 journals and were cited 23,139 times. The most-cited and influential article describes the first use of the continuous interleaved sampling (CIS) strategy utilised in all modern cochlear implants. More than half of the studies on the list were produced by authors from the United States, and the Ear and Hearing journal had both the greatest number of articles and the greatest number of total citations. To conclude, this research serves as a guide to the most influential articles on the topic of hearing implants, although bibliometric analyses mainly focus on citations. The most-cited article was an influential description of CIS.

Abstract
Background The number of citations an article receives is a marker of its scientific influence within a particular specialty. This bibliometric analysis intended to recognise the top 100 cited articles in minimally-invasive cardiac surgery, to determine the fundamental subject areas that have borne considerable influence upon clinical practice and academic knowledge whilst also considering bibliometric scope. This is increasingly relevant in a continually advancing specialty and one where minimally-invasive cardiac procedures have the potential for huge benefits to patient outcomes.
Methods The Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics) data citation index database was searched with the following terms: [Minimal* AND Invasive* AND Card* AND Surg*]. Results were limited to full text English language manuscripts and ranked by citation number. Further analysis of the top 100 cited articles was carried out according to subject, author, publication year, journal, institution and country of origin. Results A total of 4716 eligible manuscripts were retrieved. Of the top 100 papers, the median (range) citation number was 101 (51–414). The most cited paper by Lichtenstein et al. (Circulation 114(6):591–596, 2006) published in Circulation with 414 citations focused on transapical transcatheter aortic valve implantation as a viable alternative to aortic valve replacement with cardiopulmonary bypass in selected patients with aortic stenosis. The Annals of Thoracic Surgery published the most papers and received the most citations (n = 35; 3036 citations). The United States of America had the most publications and citations (n = 52; 5303 citations), followed by Germany (n = 27; 2598 citations). Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, published the most papers of all institutions. Minimally-invasive cardiac surgery pertaining to valve surgery (n = 42) and coronary artery bypass surgery (n = 30) were the two most frequent topics by a large margin. Conclusions This work establishes a comprehensive and informative analysis of the most influential publications in minimally-invasive cardiac surgery and outlines what constitutes a citable article. Undertaking a quantitative evaluation of the top 100 papers aids in recognising the contributions of key authors and institutions as well as guiding future efforts in this field to continually improve the quality of care offered to complex cardiac patients.

Abstract
Radiotherapy, a popular cancer management procedure, negatively impacts reproductive health particularly by reducing the fertility potential. The purpose of this study was to analyze the research trend in radiotherapy associated with male infertility over the past 20 years (2000-May 2021). SCOPUS database was used to retrieve relevant scientometric data (publication per year, affiliation, journals, countries, type of document and area of research) for different subgenres of radiotherapy and male infertility. A total of 275 articles were published related to radiotherapy and male infertility, with the United States being the most dominant country in research output in this field. Radiotherapy and male infertility research have shown positive growth over the last two decades. In-depth analysis revealed that publications (n) related to radiotherapy and male infertility research mainly focused its impact on semen parameters (n = 155) and fertility preservation techniques (n = 169). Our scientometric results highlight a limited research focus on the field of radiotherapy and its impact on male reproductive hormones. Furthermore, a significant lack of research was noticed in the area of omics and male reproductive organs linked to radiotherapy. Substantial research is warranted to further decipher the effect of radiotherapy, at molecular level, leading to male infertility.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION A large body of literature has been published on urinary incontinence, ranging from medical treatment, epidemiology and surgical techniques. A bibliometric analysis is used to identify high-quality research papers using criteria such as citation rate and journal impact factor. OBJECTIVES To describe key themes and topics in urinary incontinence literature in the last 50 years. METHODS Thomson Reuters Web of Science citation indexing database was used to identify the top 100 cited articles in urinary incontinence in the last 50 years. Data sets were subdivided into manuscript type, theme, author, institution, country of origin, journal and citation rate. RESULTS Mean number of citations in the top 100 group for manuscripts was 676, ranging between 2444 and 306. Most cited paper was by Irwin et al. The manuscript with the highest citation rate was by Dumoulin et al., citation rate of 470.7/year. The largest number of manuscripts was published between 2000 and 2009 (n = 47). The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) had the highest impact factor (74.67) and five manuscripts were published in this journal. Fifty-seven per cent of articles were published in journals with impact factor < 5. The vast majority of the articles focussed on epidemiology, followed by surgical treatment of urinary incontinence, 69% being original research studies. CONCLUSION This is the first bibliometric analysis of the top 100 most influential papers in urinary incontinence. The key themes identified were epidemiology and surgical management, with most papers being original research studies.

Abstract
PRCIS Characteristics of the most mentioned glaucoma articles on the internet were analyzed, allowing a better understanding of the dissemination of glaucoma research to the general public. PURPOSE The aim was to determine the 100 most mentioned articles on the internet in the field of glaucoma and analyze their characteristics. MATERIALS AND METHODS We identified the top 100 glaucoma articles with the highest Altmetric Attention Score (AAS), an automatically calculated metric for monitoring social media. Each article was evaluated for several characteristics including year of publication, title, journal name, journal impact factor (IF), article topic, article type, affiliation, and online mentions (news, blog, policy, Twitter, Facebook, etc.). Correlation analysis was conducted for AAS with these characteristics. RESULTS The selected 100 articles came from 44 journals with more than half (56%) published in ophthalmology-specific journals. There was no significant correlation between IF and number of articles in a specific journal or AAS (P>0.1), but the number of articles in the top 100 was higher for ophthalmology journals with a higher IF (P<0.05). Original study was the most common study type (87%), of which clinical observation study was the most common subgroup (40%). Epidemiology/risk factor and basic science were the most common article topics (each 24%), followed by medical treatment (13%). Article topics regarding medical treatment had a significantly greater AAS than other topics (P<0.05). Of the top 5 articles, more than half (60%) were related to "Lifestyle choice" topics. CONCLUSIONS There was no association between journal IF and AAS, consistent with previous studies. 90% of journals that had articles in the top 100 had a Twitter page. "Lifestyle choice" activities and other modifiable risk factors attracted significant online attention regarding glaucoma studies, with two of the top three most mentioned articles related to dietary intake. The present study thus provides a better understanding of online engagement with glaucoma research and the dissemination of this research to the general public.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to explore the characteristics of the top 100 influential manuscripts on obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). METHODS All manuscripts in English were searched from the Thomson Reuters Web of Science database by using OSA-related terms and ranked based on citation frequency. The top 100 influential manuscripts were selected and further analyzed by author, subject, journal, year of publication, country of origin, and institution. RESULTS A total of 42,878 manuscripts were searched from the Web of Science. The top 100 influential manuscripts were published from 2005 to 2017, with a total citation frequency of 38,463 and a median citation frequency of 303 (range: from 210 to 2, 707). The American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine published the largest number of manuscripts from the top 100 (n = 18; 5340 citations), followed by Sleep (n = 11; 3516 citations) and Chest (n = 7; 1784 citations). The most cited manuscript (Marin, J.M et al., Lancet 2005; 2707 citations) mainly analyzed long-term cardiovascular outcomes in men with OSA with/without continuous positive airway pressure. The most prevalent subject was associated diseases (n = 41), followed by treatments (n = 40). Most of the manuscripts were original articles (n = 63) based on observational clinical studies and published from American institutions (n = 60). CONCLUSIONS Our study identified the top 100 influential manuscripts on OSA and provides insights into the characteristics of the most highly cited manuscripts to improve our understanding and management of OSA.

Abstract
Background Bibliometric analysis is commonly used to identify influential research within a given topic. Purpose To identify the 100 top-cited articles in head and neck radiology, analyse the history and trends in head and neck imaging research, and understand what constitutes a highly cited work. Material and Methods A literature search was performed on the Thomson Reuters Web of Science using pre-defined search terms. The results were ranked according to citation count and screened to create a single database. The information included in the database were: Web of Science citations, year published, first author, primary institution, country of origin, journal, journal impact factor, title, study design, study focus and modality. Results 24,664 eligible papers were returned. Citations for the 100 top-cited articles ranged from 115 to 1185, and citations per year ranged from 3.5 to 197.5. More than half of the articles were published in the 2000s (n = 67). Radiology has the greatest number of publications (n = 22), followed by Journal of Nuclear Medicine (n = 14). Positron Emission Tomography (n = 56) was the most commonly studied modality, followed by Magnetic Resonance (n = 40) and Computed Tomography (n = 31). The most common topics of publication were diagnosis (n = 63), followed by prognosis (n = 16). Conclusion This study provides insights into the most influential research in head and neck radiology in the current time. It also serves as a guide to the characteristics of a highly cited work in this field.

Abstract
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common condition encountered by an array of subspecialists and is the most cited research topic within the field of andrology. This bibliometric analysis aims to identify the most influential papers that inform current clinical practice and likely shape future research. The Thompson Reuters Web of Science citation database was interrogated using search terms to cover the breadth of erectile dysfunction. Results were ranked according to citation number with country of origin, journal, topic, year of publication, author and institution also analysed. The search criteria matched 12,570 manuscripts. The top 100 highest citation ranged from 3013 to 161 (median 229.5). The most cited manuscript reports the prevalence and risk factors of ED within the Massachusetts Male Aging Study. The most manuscripts were published by the Journal of Urology (n = 15) with a total of 7913 citations. Institutions from the USA contributed the majority (n = 55) with the UK (n = 14) second. The most common theme represented was epidemiology (n = 46) followed by treatment (n = 27). This analysis provides a list of the most influential manuscripts within ED and illustrates what can be considered a 'highly citable' paper. The most influential papers in Erectile Dysfunction remain seminal works from the end of the last century. The most cited manuscript has been cited 194 times in the last 17 months showing its continued value. Only one paper published within the last decade has reached the top twenty exemplifying the relative lack of novel influential publications.

Abstract
Purpose The objective of this scientometric analysis was to recognize the top 100 cited articles on ‘Male infertility and Antioxidants’ and analyze its publication characteristics. Materials and Methods The Scopus database was used to retrieve related articles and the top 100 identified based on citation rate. Results The articles were published in 56 journals between 1995 and 2019 with a median (interquartile range) citation score of 17 (5–62). Among the top 100 articles, 69 were clinical studies, which included controlled and blinded (33.33%), prospective (27.54%), randomized-controlled trials (26.09%), uncontrolled (11.59%), and retrospective (1.45%) studies. In addition to conventional semen parameters, advanced sperm function tests such as oxidative stress (51%) and sperm DNA damage (23%) were reported. Pregnancy rate (33%) was found to be the most reported reproductive outcome. Antioxidant therapy was mostly investigated in male cohorts with sperm abnormalities such as asthenozoospermia (28%) and clinical conditions such as idiopathic male infertility (20%), varicocele/varicocelectomy (17%) and general male infertility (16%). Conclusions The most influential publications on antioxidants and male infertility were identified for the first time in the literature. This will serve as a reliable source of information for researchers and clinicians alike.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The number of citations is considered as an indirect indicator of the merit of an article, journal or researcher, although it is not an infallible method to determine scientific quality. Our goal is to determine the characteristics of the articles most cited about pancreas and laparoscopy. METHODS We performed a search of all articles published in any journal about pancreas and laparoscopy until September 2019 and selected the 100 most cited papers. We recorded number of citations, journal, year of publication, quartil, impact factor, institution, country, authors type of paper, type of surgery, topic and area. RESULTS The top 100 citations account 10,970 citations in total. The journal with the most articles is Surgical Endoscopy and 2007 is the year with the highest number of articles in the top 100 citations. The percentage of publications from America and Europe are similar. Case series is the most frequently paper, outcomes/morbidity is the most frequently discussed topic, and distal pancreatectomy is the most frequently type of surgery. CONCLUSIONS This bibliometric study on pancreas and laparoscopy is conditioned by the time factor, since laparoscopy has arrived later at pancreatic surgery, probably due to the morbidity and mortality associated with pancreatic surgery and the need for a high specialization in this field. The literature is recent and scarce. More and better-quality studies are needed in this field.

Abstract
Bibliometric analysis identifies the most influential manuscripts that shape our understanding of various congenital gastrointestinal pathologies. This study sets out to analyse the 100 most cited manuscripts on congenital gastrointestinal surgery. The Thomson Reuters Web of Science database was searched for all manuscripts relevant to paediatric congenital gastrointestinal surgery. The number of citations, authorship, publication date, journal of publication, institution and country were recorded for each paper. Eigenfactor and impact factor rankings were obtained for each journal of publication. 971 eligible manuscripts were returned by the search. Within the top 100 manuscripts, the most cited paper (by Metkus et al.) investigated fetal diaphragmatic hernia and was cited 413 times. University of Indianapolis had the most publications (n=5) and Journal of Pediatric Surgery had the most citations (n=3231). The country with the most publications in top 100 were the USA (n=39). The most commonly published topics were diaphragmatic hernia (n=23), abdominal wall defect (n=20) and atresia (n=6). The most cited manuscripts include various topics with a primary focus on the aetiology, diagnosis, management and outcome of diaphragmatic hernia and abdominal wall defects. Additionally, by collecting the most influential works, this study serves to reference what makes a manuscript 'citable'.

Abstract
This bibliometric analysis aims to identify publications and highlight the key areas that have shaped modern clinical practices for aortic valve replacement (AVR). In this paper, the top 100 most cited manuscripts for AVR are analyzed. The Thomson Reuters Web of Science database was searched using the terms "aortic valve replacement," "AVR," "sAVR," "tAVR," or "TAVI." The results were ranked by citation number and the top 100 articles were further analyzed by evaluating the subject, author, journal, year of publication, institution, and country of origin. Thirty-thousand and eight hundred eligible papers were examined, with an accumulation of 81 851 citations in total and a mean citation of 819 per manuscript (ranged: 344-4180). The New England Journal of Medicine had the most manuscripts whereas Circulation had the most citations. The number of citations has also significantly increased for articles published after 2000.The most cited manuscript highlighting the management of valvular heart disease, was written by Baumgartner et al By providing the most influential references, this work serves as a comprehensive guide to topics of interest in the field of AVR.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The number of citations a scientific paper has received indicates its impact within any medical field. We performed a bibliometric analysis to highlight the key topics of the most frequently cited 100 articles on perianal fistula to determine the advances in this field. METHODS The Scopus database was searched from 1960 to 2018 using the search terms "perianal fistula" or "anal fistula" or "fistula in ano" or "anal fistulae" or "anorectal fistulae" including full articles. The topic, year of publication, publishing journal, country of origin, institution, and department of the first author were analyzed. RESULTS The median number of citations for the top 100 of 3431 eligible papers, ranked in order of the number of citations, was 100 (range: 65-811), and the number of citations per year was 7.5 (range: 3.8-40.1). The most-cited paper (by Parks et al in 1976; 811citations) focused on the classification of perianal fistula. The institution with the highest number of publications was St Mark's Hospital, London, UK. The most-studied topic was surgical management (n = 47). The country and the decade with the greatest number of publications in this field were the USA (n = 34) and the 2000s (n = 50), respectively. CONCLUSION The 100 most frequently cited manuscripts showed that surgical management had the greatest impact on the study of perianal fistula. This citation analysis provides a reference of what could be considered the most classic papers on perianal fistula, and may serve as a reference for researchers and clinicians as to what constitutes a citable paper in this field.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to highlight the key studies that have led to the current understanding and treatment of head and neck cancer. METHOD The Thomson Reuters Web of Science database was used to identify relevant manuscripts. The results were ranked according to the number of citations. The 100 most cited papers were analysed. RESULTS A total of 63 538 eligible papers were returned. The median number of citations was 626. The most cited paper compared radiotherapy with and without cetuximab (3205 citations). The New England Journal of Medicine had the most citations (23 514), and the USA had the greatest number of publications (n = 66). The most common topics of publication were the treatment (n = 45) and basic science (n = 19) of head and neck cancer, followed by the role of human papillomavirus (n = 16). CONCLUSION This analysis highlighted key articles that influenced head and neck cancer research and treatment. It serves as a guide as to what makes a 'citable' paper in this field.

The main purpose of this paper was to identify and investigate the 100 most cited publications in the intuitionistic fuzzy field. Topic search based on the keyword “intuitionistic fuzzy” in the Science Citation Index and Social Sciences Citation Index databases was conducted to identify the 100 most cited articles. Bibliometric analysis methods were employed to describe these articles from different angles, such as the citation amount and rate, distribution among journals, institutions and countries/regions, author frequency, and citation distribution over time. This paper provides an insight on the characteristics of the highly cited intuitionistic fuzzy publications. The achievements of this study may provide useful information for researchers in the fields related to intuitionistic fuzzy.

Abstract
Background The use of bibliometrics can help us identify the most impactful articles on a topic or scientific discipline and their influence on clinical practice. We aimed to identify the 100 most cited articles covering esophageal motility disorders and examine their key characteristics. Methods The Web of Science database was utilized to perform the search, using predefined search terms. The returned dataset was filtered to include full manuscripts written in the English language. After screening, we identified the 100 most cited articles and analyzed them for title, year of publication, names of authors, institution, country of the first author, number of citations and citation rate. Results The initial search returned 29,521 results. The top 100 articles received a total of 20,688 citations. The most cited paper was by Inoue et al. (665 citations) who first described peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) for treating achalasia. The article with the highest citation rate was the third version of the Chicago Classification system, written by Kahrilas and colleagues. Gastroenterology published most papers on the list (n=32) and accrued the highest number of citations (6,675 citations). Peter Kahrilas was the most cited author (3,650 citations) and, along with Joel Richter, authored the highest number of manuscripts (n=14). Most articles were produced in the USA (n=66) between the years 1991 and 2000 (n=32). Conclusions By analyzing the most influential articles, this work is a reference on the articles that shaped our understanding of esophageal motility disorders, thus serving as a guide for future research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Lifestyle-based preventive cardiology aims to combat the global burden of cardiovascular disease. There have been rapid advances in lifestyle and behavioural interventions aimed at preventing cardiovascular disease in individuals at high risk and in the general population. This study is the first bibliometric analysis of publications in the field of lifestyle-based preventive cardiology. METHODS Journal articles relating to lifestyle-based preventive cardiology published from 1996 to 2017 were retrieved from the Scopus database. The publications were limited to those in the English language. The data were indexed using bibliometric methodology and exported to Microsoft Excel for analysis. VOS viewer software was used to conduct co-occurrence and collaboration analysis between authors, institutions and countries. RESULTS A total of 3300 publications were identified. The annual growth rate of publications increased globally during the study period. The USA made the highest contribution to global publications (1402) and total citation counts (68,540). Harvard Medical School was the most prolific institution and David Wood was the most prolific author in the field. The European Journal of Preventive Cardiology published the largest number of articles in this field. Obesity was the most common theme. CONCLUSIONS The current growth trends predict a large increase in the number of global publications on lifestyle-based preventive cardiology. Further research could focus on smoking cessation, which at present is under-represented in lifestyle-based preventive cardiology output.

Abstract
Background Emergency Cardiac Surgery (ECS) is a component of cardiothoracic training. Citations are considered to represent a papers influence. Bibliometric analyses allow us to identify the most influential work, and future research. We aim to highlight the key research themes within ECS and determine their potential impact on cardiothoracic training. Methods Thomas Reuters Web of Science was searched using terms [Emergency AND Card* AND Surg*]. Results were ranked by citation and reviewed by a panel of cardiac surgeons to identify the top 100 cited papers relevant to ECS. Papers were analysed by topic, journal and impact. Regression analysis was used to determine a link between impact factor and scientific impact. Results 3823 papers were identified. Median citations for the top 100 was 88. The paper with the highest impact was by Nashef et al. focusing on the use of EuroSCORE (2043 citations). The Annals of Thoracic Surgery published most papers (n = 18:1778 citations). The European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery coveted the most citations (n = 2649). The USA published most papers (n = 55).The most ubiquitous topics were; risk stratification, circulatory support and aortic surgery. A positive relationship between journal impact fact and the scientific impact of manuscripts in ECS (P = 0.043) was deduced. Conclusion This study is the first of its kind and identified the papers which are likely to the contribute most to training and understanding of ECS. A papers influence is partially determined by journal impact factor. Bibliometric analysis is a potent tool to identify surgical training needs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Since the introduction of endovascular technology to treat thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms, there has been a global research effort focused on assessing the effectiveness of treatment. A bibliometric analysis is used to identify the scientific impact of an article, impactful authors, institutions, and collaborative groups. Our objective was to identify and to analyze the 100 most cited articles in the field of endovascular treatment of thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms. METHODS We performed a retrospective bibliometric analysis in April 2018. Articles were searched on the Science Citation Index Expanded database using Web of Science to identify the most cited articles in endovascular therapy for thoracic and aortic aneurysms since 1945. Use of selected key terms ("AAA," "aortic aneurysm," "thoracic aneurysm," "abdominal aneurysm," "endovascular," "endoluminal," "stent," "graft," "repair," "EVAR," and "TEVAR") yielded a total of 23,354 articles. The top 100 articles were identified and analyzed to extract relevant information including year of publication, citation count, journal, authorship country of origin, and article type. RESULTS The earliest articles were published in 1991, with the majority being published in the 2000s (n = 59). The number of citations for the top 100 articles ranged from 151 to 1142, with a median citation count of 212. All articles were cited an average of 22.4 times per year. Almost half (n = 46) of the top 100 articles were published in the Journal of Vascular Surgery. Thirty-nine authors contributed four or more articles, with two being credited on 10 papers to make the list. The majority (n = 62) of the articles arose from the United States, while the United Kingdom contributed 11 articles. There were 7 guidelines and 12 randomized controlled trials, and the majority constituted level III or level IV evidence. CONCLUSIONS This study provides a comprehensive and informative analysis of the most cited and impactful research undertaken in the field of endovascular treatment of abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms. By quantitatively assessing the 100 most cited articles in the field, we recognize the contributions of key authors, institutions, and collaborative groups and develop an understanding of the strengths of past research and the requirements for future global efforts.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION We performed a study of the top 100 most cited articles in the five general surgery journals with the highest impact according to Journal Citation Report. METHODS We selected the five journals with the highest impact in 2015: Annals of Surgery, British Journal of Surgery, JAMA Surgery, Surgery, and Journal of the American College of Surgeons. In January 2017, using the Web of Science application, we performed a search of all articles published by these journals and identified the 100 most cited articles (top 100). We evaluated the number of citations, year of publication, type of article, country and hospital of the article, area of interest and number of authors. RESULTS The median number of citations per top 100 paper was 490. Twenty percent of the top 100 papers have been published since 2000. Overall, 70% are original papers, 8% randomized control trials, 11% reviews, 1% meta-analyses and 11% other subtypes. There are 13% proceedings papers. Sixty-one percent are from the US. The most frequently discussed topic is hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery (33%). CONCLUSIONS The top 100 most cited articles tend to be original articles describing studies carried out in the US, reporting significant surgical breakthroughs. Hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery is the most common subject area. Annals of Surgery had twice as many citations as the other journals studied. The archetypal article of the Top15 most cited is an original paper published in the twentieth century, with an average of 2000 citations.

Abstract
Background As the specialty of Andrology expands it is important to establish the most important studies that have shaped, and continue to shape, current research and clinical practice. Bibliometric analysis involving a citation rank list is an established means by which to identify the published material within a given field that has greatest intellectual influence. This bibliometric analysis sought to identify the 100 most influential manuscripts in Andrology, as well as the key research themes that have shaped contemporary understanding and management of andrological conditions. Methods The Thompson Reuters Web of Science citation indexing database was interrogated using a number of search terms chosen to reflect the full spectrum of andrological practice. Results were ranked according to citation number and further analysed according to subject, first and senior author, journal, year of publication, institution and country of origin. Results The Web of Science search returned a total of 24,128 manuscripts. Citation number of the top 100 articles ranged from 2819 to 218 (median 320). The most cited manuscript (by Feldman et al., The Journal of Urology 1994; 2819 citations) reported the prevalence and risk factors for erectile dysfunction (ED) in the Massachusetts Male Ageing Study. The Journal of Urology published the highest number of manuscripts (n = 11), followed by the New England Journal of Medicine (n = 10). The most common theme represented within the top 100 manuscripts was erectile dysfunction (n = 46), followed jointly by hypogonadism and male factor infertility (n = 24 respectively). Conclusion Erectile dysfunction should be considered the most widely researched, published and cited field within andrological practice. This study provides a list of the most influential manuscripts in andrology and serves as a reference of what comprises a ‘highly citable’ paper for both researchers and clinicians.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Bibliometric and Altmetric analyses highlight key publications, which have been considered to be the most influential in their field. The hypothesis was that highly cited articles would correlate positively with levels of evidence and Altmetric scores (AS) and rank. METHODS Surgery as a search term was entered into Thomson Reuter's Web of Science database to identify all English-language full articles. The 100 most cited articles were analysed by topic, journal, author, year, institution, and AS. RESULTS By bibliometric criteria, eligible articles numbered 286,122 and the median (range) citation number was 574 (446-5746). The most cited article (Dindo et al.) classified surgical complications by severity score (5746 citations). Annals of Surgery published most articles and received most citations (26,457). The country and year with most publications were the USA (n = 50) and 1999 (n = 11). By Altmetric criteria, the article with the highest AS was by Bigelow et al. (AS = 53, hypothermia's role in cardiac surgery); Annals of Surgery published most articles, and the country and year with most publications were USA (n = 4) and 2007 (n = 3). Level-1-evidence articles numbered 13, but no correlation was found between evidence level and citation number (SCC 0.094, p = 0.352) or AS (SCC = 0.149, p = 0.244). Median AS was 0 (0-53), and in articles published after the year 2000, AS was associated with citation number (r = 0.461, p = 0.001) and citation rate index (r = 0.455, p = 0.002). AS was not associated with journal impact factor (r = 0.160, p = 0.118). CONCLUSION Bibliometric and Altmetric analyses provide important but different perspectives regarding article impact, which are unrelated to evidence level.

Abstract
Tissue engineering (TE) is defined as a multidisciplinary scientific discipline with the main objective to develop artificial bioengineered living tissues to regenerate damaged or lost tissues. Since its appearance in 1988, TE has globally spread to improve current therapeutic approaches, entailing a revolution in clinical practice. The aim of this study is to analyze global research trends on TE publications to realize the scenario of TE research from 1991 to 2016 by using document retrieval from Web of Science database and bibliometric analysis. Document type, language, source title, authorship, countries and filiation centers, and citation count were evaluated in 31,859 documents. Obtained results suggest a great multidisciplinary role of TE due to a wide spectrum-up to 51-of scientific research areas identified in the corpus of literature, being predominant technological disciplines as Material Sciences or Engineering, followed by biological and biomedical areas, as Cell Biology, Biotechnology, or Biochemistry. Distribution of authorship, journals, and countries revealed a clear imbalance, in which a minority is responsible for a majority of documents. Such imbalance is notorious in authorship, where a 0.3% of authors are involved in half of the whole production.
