Abstract
To explore the relationship between the intestinal flora of Exopalaemon Carinicauda and infection by Enterocytozoo Hepatopenaei (EHP), we analyzed the species and richness of gut microbiota in infected individuals in different EHP load groups [i.e., control (C), high load (H), and low load (L)] using gene sequencing after infection. The results showed that the abundance of intestinal flora in the high-load EHP group was significantly lower than that in the healthy group. Based on the UPGMA cluster tree and PCoA analysis, with comparisons to healthy shrimp, the gut microbiota of the EHP high load and low load groups were clustered into one branch, which indicated that EHP infection changed the composition of the gut microbiota of infected shrimps. The heat map analysis of species abundance clustering revealed that the dominant bacteria in the low EHP load group and the control group were beneficial genera such as Lactococcus, Ligilactobacillius, and Bifidobacterium, but the dominant bacteria in the high EHP load group were harmful genera such as Pseudomonas, Photobacterium, and Candidatus hepatincola. The functions of the intestinal flora predicted that most genes related to metabolism were more abundant in healthy shrimp, most genes related to metabolism and the organisms' system were more abundant in the low EHP load group, and most genes related to diseases and environmental information processing were more abundant in the high EHP load group. After separation and purification, the dominant bacteria (Bifidobacterium animalis in healthy shrimp and Lactococcus garvieae in the low EHP load group) and the non-dominant bacteria (Macrococus caseolyticus in the low EHP load group) were obtained. Each of these isolated strains were used together with EHP to infect E. carinicauda, and the results showed that Bifidobacterium animali and Lactococcus garvieae significantly reduced the EHP load in EHP-infected individuals. At the same time, the morphology and structure of the hepatopancreas and intestinal tissue of EHP-infected E. carinicauda were improved. No improvement was seen in tissue that was infected with Macrococus caseolyticus.

Abstract
This mini review deals with some controversial non-starter lactic acid bacteria (NSLAB) species known to be both human and animal pathogens but also health-promoting and probiotic. The focus is on Lactococcus garvieae, two Streptococcus species (S. uberis and S. parauberis), four Weissella species (W. hellenica, W. confusa, W. paramesenteroides, and W. cibaria), and Mammalicoccus sciuri, which worldwide, are often found within the microbiotas of different kinds of cheese, mainly traditional artisanal cheeses made from raw milk and/or relying on environmental bacteria for their ripening. Based on literature data, the virulence and health-promoting effects of these bacteria are examined, and some of the mechanisms of these actions are reviewed. Additionally, their possible roles in cheese ripening are also discussed. The analysis of the literature data available so far showed that, in general, the pathogenic and the beneficial strains, despite belonging to the same species, show somewhat different genetic constitutions. Yet, when the safety of a given strain is assessed, genomic analysis on its own is not enough, and a polyphasic approach including additional physiological and functional tests is needed.

Abstract
The gastrointestinal tract (GIT) promotes the digestion and absorption of feeds, in addition to the excretion of waste products of digestion. In fish, the GIT is divided into four regions, the headgut, foregut, midgut, and hindgut, to which glands and lymphoid tissues are associated to release digestive enzymes and molecules involved in the immune response and control of host-pathogens. The GIT is inhabited by different species of resident microorganisms, the microbiota, which have co-evolved with the host in a symbiotic relationship and are responsible for metabolic benefits and counteracting pathogen infection. There is a strict connection between a fish's gut microbiota and its health status. This review focuses on the modulation of fish microbiota by feed additives based on prebiotics and probiotics as a feasible strategy to improve fish health status and gut efficiency, mitigate emerging diseases, and maximize rearing and growth performance. Furthermore, the use of histological assays as a valid tool for fish welfare assessment is also discussed, and insights on nutrient absorptive capacity and responsiveness to pathogens in fish by gut morphological endpoints are provided. Overall, the literature reviewed emphasizes the complex interactions between microorganisms and host fish, shedding light on the beneficial use of prebiotics and probiotics in the aquaculture sector, with the potential to provide directions for future research.

Abstract
The probiotic potential of a designed bacterial consortia isolated from a competitive exclusion culture originally obtained from the intestinal contents of tilapia juveniles were evaluated on Nile tilapia alevins. The growth performance, intestinal histology, microbiota effects, resistance to Streptococcus agalactiae challenge, and immune response were assessed. In addition, the following treatments were included in a commercial feed: A12+M4+M10 (Lactococcus lactis A12, Priestia megaterium M4, and Priestia sp. M10), M4+M10 (P. megaterium M4, and Priestia sp. M10) and the single bacteria as controls; A12 (L. lactis A12), M4 (P. megaterium M4), M10 (Priestia sp. M10), also a commercial feed without any probiotic addition was included as a control. The results showed that all probiotic treatments improved the growth performance, intestinal histology, and resistance during experimental infection with S. agalactiae in comparison to the control fish. Also, the administration of probiotics resulted in the modulation of genes associated with the innate and adaptive immune systems that were non-dependent on microbial colonization. Surprisingly, L. lactis A12 alone induced benefits in fish compared to the microbial consortia, showing the highest increase in growth rate, survival during experimental infection with S. agalactiae, increased intestinal fold length, and the number of differentially expressed genes. Lastly, we conclude that a competitive exclusion culture is a reliable source of probiotics, and monostrain L. lactis A12 has comparable or even greater probiotic potential than the bacterial consortia.

Prevalence, Virulence, and Antibiotics Gene Profiles in Lactococcus garvieae Isolated from Cows with Clinical Mastitis in China. Microorganisms 2023; 11:microorganisms11020379. Abstract
Lactococcus garvieae (L. garvieae) is a pathogenic gram-positive, catalase-negative (GPCN) bacterium that causes bovine mastitis. A total of 49 L. garvieae isolates were identified from 1441 clinical mastitis (CM) samples. The pathogenic effects of L. garvieae were studied with two infection models: bovine mammary epithelial cells cultured in vitro and murine mammary infections in vivo. The overall farm prevalence was 15.5% (13/84 farms in 9/19 provinces) and sample prevalence was 3.40% (49/1441). Post-treatment somatic cell count (SCC) post L. garvieae infection was significantly higher than the other GPCN pathogens isolated, and the bacteriological cure fraction was 41.94% (13/31) after intramammary antibiotic treatment. All L. garvieae isolates were resistant to rifaximin, 12.24% of isolates were resistant to cephalexin, and 10.20% (5/49) were multidrug-resistant (MDR). The most prevalent virulence genes were Hemolysin 1 (hly1)(100%), Hemolysin 2 (hly2) (97.96%), NADH oxidase (NADHO) (100%), Superoxide dismutase (SOD) (100%), Adhesin Pav (Pav) (100%), Adhesin PsaA (PsaA) (100%), Enolase (eno) (100%), Adhesin cluster 1(AC1) (100%), Adhesin cluster 2 (AC2) (100%), and several exopolysaccharides. L. garvieae rapidly adhered to bovine mammary epithelial cells, resulting in an elevated lactate dehydrogenase release. Edema and congestion were observed in challenged murine mammary glands and bacteria were consistently isolated at 12, 24, 48, 72, and 120 h after infection. We concluded that L. garvieae had good adaptive ability in the bovine and murine mammary cells and tissue. Given the resistance profile, penicillin and ampicillin are potential treatments for CM cases caused by L. garvieae.

Abstract
In traditional soft ripened cheeses made with raw milk, the use of protective cultures is infrequent. In the present work, the effect of selected (for their activity against Listeria monocytogenes) protective cultures of Lactocaseibacillus casei 116 and Lactococcus garvieae 151 was evaluated, on the evolution of volatile compounds throughout the ripening and on the final sensory characteristics of traditional soft ripened “Torta del Casar” cheese. For this, both strains were separately inoculated in raw cheeses and ripened for 90 days. The selected LAB strains did not affect physicochemical parameters, including texture and color of the ripened cheeses. However, they could have a positive effect on the aroma, for the generation of methyl branched acids and for the reduction in compounds derived from β-oxidation of fatty acids. Thus, these protective cultures, in addition to contributing to their safety, could improve quality of the ripened cheeses.

Abstract
This study aims to mine a previously developed continuous-flow competitive exclusion culture (CFCEC) originating from the Tilapia gut microbiome as a rational and efficient autochthonous probiotic strain recovery source. Three isolated strains were tested on their adaptability to host gastrointestinal conditions, their antibacterial activities against aquaculture bacterial pathogens, and their antibiotic susceptibility patterns. Their genomes were fully sequenced, assembled, annotated, and relevant functions inferred, such as those related to pinpointed probiotic activities and phylogenomic comparative analyses to the closer reported strains/species relatives. The strains are possible candidates of novel genus/species taxa inside Lactococcus spp. and Priestia spp. (previously known as Bacillus spp.) These results were consistent with reports on strains inside these phyla exhibiting probiotic features, and the strains we found are expanding their known diversity. Furthermore, their pangenomes showed that these bacteria have indeed a set of so far uncharacterized genes that may play a role in the antagonism to competing strains or specific symbiotic adaptations to the fish host. In conclusion, CFCEC proved to effectively allow the enrichment and further pure culture isolation of strains with probiotic potential.

Abstract
In the face of the growing demand for functional food, the search for new sources of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) becomes a priority. In our research, we used multiplied culture conditions followed by identification via the matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry for seeking LAB strains in plant- and animal-derived sources. Furthermore, the selected LAB isolates were examined for their proteolytic activity as well as antimicrobial action against different bacterial pathogens. The applied method appeared to be useful tool for searching LAB strains within different types of the biological matrices. The best source of the LABs was from calf. Comparing properties of the two selected LABs, those isolated from calf demonstrated the greatest proteolytic and antibacterial properties suggesting that gastrointestinal microbiota are the most valuable LAB source. Nevertheless, second selected strain derived from pickled cucumber juice may be also treated as a promising source of potential probiotic strains.

Abstract
The conditions of aquatic environments have a great influence on the microbiota of several animals, many of which are a potential source of microorganisms of biotechnological interest. In this study, bacterial strains isolated from aquatic environments were bioprospected to determine their probiotic profile and antimicrobial effect against fish and food pathogens. Two isolates, identified via 16S rRNA sequencing as Lactococcus lactis (L1 and L2) and one as Enterococcus faecium 135 (EF), produced a bacteriocin-like antimicrobial substance (BLIS), active against Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella Choleraesuis and Salmonella Typhimurium. Antimicrobial activity of BLIS was reduced when exposed to high temperatures and proteolytic enzymes (trypsin, pepsin, papain and pancreatin). All strains were sensitive to 7 types of antibiotics (vancomycin, clindamycin, streptomycin, gentamicin, chloramphenicol, rifampicin and ampicillin), exhibited a high rate of adherence to Caco-2 cells and expressed no hemolysin and gelatinase virulence factors. EF showed some resistance at pH 2.5 and 3.0, and L2/EF showed higher resistance to the action of bile salts. Finally, the presence of bacteriocin genes encoding for proteins, including Nisin (L1 and L2), Enterocin A, B, P, and Mundticin KS (EF) was detected. The molecular and physiological evidence suggests that the bacterial isolates in this study could be used as natural antimicrobial agents and may be considered safe for probiotic application.

Abstract
Gut microbiota has strong connections with health. Regulating and enhancing gut microbiota and increasing the population of beneficial microorganisms constitutes a new approach to increasing the efficiency of health status. Although it has been shown that Lactococcus can adjust gut microbiota and be beneficial for the host, little is known about whether strains of Lactococcus petauri can improve the gut microbiota. This study focused on the influence of Lactococcus petauri CF11 on the gut microbiome composition and the levels of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in vivo in healthy Sprague Dawley rats. The present results showed that strain CF11 was able to induce a higher amount of fecal acetic acid and propionic acid and enhance species richness. Moreover, strain CF11 improved the gut microbiota community structure. In the experimental group, the genera Oscillospira, Coprococcus, and Ruminococcus, which are reported to be able to produce SCFAs, are significantly increased when compared with the control group (p < 0.05). Finally, the functions of genes revealed that 180 pathways were upregulated or downregulated in comparison with the control group. Among them, the top-five clearly enriched pathways regarding metabolism included porphyrin and chlorophyll metabolism; C5-Branched dibasic acid metabolism; valine, leucine, and isoleucine biosynthesis; phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan biosynthesis; and ascorbate and aldarate metabolism. Our data suggest that the SCFAs-producing strain CF11 is a potential probiotic.

Abstract
Diseases caused by pathogenic bacteria in animals (e.g., bacterial pneumonia, meningitis and sepsis) and plants (e.g., bacterial wilt, angular spot and canker) lead to high prevalence and mortality, and decomposition of plant leaves, respectively. Melatonin, an endogenous molecule, is highly pleiotropic, and accumulating evidence supports the notion that melatonin's actions in bacterial infection deserve particular attention. Here, we summarize the antibacterial effects of melatonin in vitro, in animals as well as plants, and discuss the potential mechanisms. Melatonin exerts antibacterial activities not only on classic gram-negative and -positive bacteria, but also on members of other bacterial groups, such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Protective actions against bacterial infections can occur at different levels. Direct actions of melatonin may occur only at very high concentrations, which is at the borderline of practical applicability. However, various indirect functions comprise activation of hosts' defense mechanisms or, in sepsis, attenuation of bacterially induced inflammation. In plants, its antibacterial functions involve the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway; in animals, protection by melatonin against bacterially induced damage is associated with inhibition or activation of various signaling pathways, including key regulators such as NF-κB, STAT-1, Nrf2, NLRP3 inflammasome, MAPK and TLR-2/4. Moreover, melatonin can reduce formation of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS, RNS), promote detoxification and protect mitochondrial damage. Altogether, we propose that melatonin could be an effective approach against various pathogenic bacterial infections.

Abstract
Simple Summary Insecticidal pollution of surface waters is known to hurt the growth, survival, and breeding of aquatic animals. Different types of insecticides are known to be toxic to different aquatic organisms, particularly to fish species. In different types of wastewater, the fishes get exposed to different mixtures of insecticides. The current study hypothesized that co-exposure to lambda-cyhalothrin (LCT) and methomyl (MTM) insecticides might be more harmful due to duplicated effects than exposure to either one of them at a time. Oreochromis niloticus was the target fish in this study. The combative roles of taurine (TUR) against LCT and MTM exposures were evaluated. In the present work, exposure of O. niloticus to LCT and/or MTM exhibited adverse effects on immunological parameters, including leukocyte count, complement 3 concentration, antioxidant enzyme concentrations, and mRNA expression for cytokines (TNF-α and IL-1β) and chemokines (CC and CXC). This study also elucidated the more severe toxic effect of LCT than exposure to MTM in O. niloticus fish. The immune response and growth performance of O. niloticus showed marked improvements when provided a 1% TUR-enriched supplement. Abstract Indiscriminate use of insecticides is a major concern due to its ubiquitous occurrence and potential toxicity to aquatic animals. This study investigated the adverse effects of lambda-cyhalothrin (LCT; C23H19ClF3NO3) and methomyl (MTM; C5H10N2O2S) on immune system modulations and growth performance of juvenile fishes. The supportive role of a taurine (TUR; C2H7NO3S)-supplemented diet was also evaluated. Juvenile O. niloticus fishes were exposed to LCT (0.079 µg/L), MTM (20.39 µg/L), or both in water and were fed on a basal diet only or taurine-supplemented basal diet. Exposure to LCT and MTM retarded growth and increased mortality rate. LCT and MTM reduced antioxidant enzyme activities (superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase) and innate and humoral immunity but upregulated interleukin and chemokine expressions. Moreover, exposure to LCT and MTM elevated 8-OHdG levels and increased the mortality of Oreochromis niloticus after the experimental bacterial challenge. The TUR-enriched diet enhanced antioxidant enzymes and acted as a growth promoter and anti-inflammatory agent. TUR can modify innate and adaptive immune responses. Furthermore, TUR supplementation is a beneficial additive candidate for mitigating LCT and MTM toxicities mixed with O. niloticus aquafeed.

Abstract
Probiotics have been defined as live microorganisms that when administered in adequate amounts confer health benefits to the host. The use of probiotics in aquaculture is an attractive bio-friendly method to decrease the impact of infectious diseases, but is still not an extended practice. Although many studies have investigated the systemic and mucosal immunological effects of probiotics, not all of them have established whether they were actually capable of increasing resistance to different types of pathogens, being this the outmost desired goal. In this sense, in the current paper, we have summarized those experiments in which probiotics were shown to provide increased resistance against bacterial, viral or parasitic pathogens. Additionally, we have reviewed what is known for fish probiotics regarding the mechanisms through which they exert positive effects on pathogen resistance, including direct actions on the pathogen, as well as positive effects on the host.

Abstract
This study was conducted to compare the effects of commercially available (C) and green synthesized (GS) Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) on immunological responses of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) skin mucus. GS ZnO-NPs were generated using Thymus pubescent and characterized by UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). Fish (n = 150) were randomly allocated into five groups in triplicate and received a waterborne concentration of 0% (control), 25%, and 50% of LC50 96 h of commercially available (C1 and C2) and green synthesized ZnO-NPs (GS1 and GS2) for 21 days. Results from XRD displayed ZnO-NPs with 58 nm in size and UV-vis DRS, EDX, and FT-IR analysis showed that some functional groups from plant extract bonded to the surface of NPs. The SEM images showed that ZnO-NPs have conical morphology. Acute toxicity study showed a higher dose of LC5096h for green synthesized ZnO-NPs (78.9 mg.L−1) compared to the commercial source (59.95 mg.L−1). The highest activity of lysozyme and alternative complement activity (ACH50) were found in control and GS1 groups. A significant decrease in alkaline phosphatase activity (ALP) was found in C1 and C2 groups compared to other treatments. Protease activity (P) was significantly decreased in the C2 group compared to the control and GS groups. Total immunoglobulin (total Ig) content was the highest in the control. In addition, total Ig in the GS1 group was higher than GS2. The exposure to ZnO-NPs lowered total protein content in all experimental groups when compared to control. Present findings revealed lower induced immunosuppressive effects by green synthesized ZnO-NPs on key parameters of fish skin mucus.

Abstract
Zinc (Zn) is an important trace element in fish diets that is required for growth, immunity and antioxidant defense mechanisms. The current study assessed the effects of both organic and nanoparticle zinc oxide (ZnO and ZnO-NPs, respectively) on growth performance, immune response and the antimicrobial effect against Pseudomonas aeruginosa in African catfish Clarias gariepinus. Fish were fed either a control diet or diets supplemented with organic ZnO at concentrations of 20 and 30 mg kg-1 or ZnO-NPs at concentrations of 20 and 30 mg kg-1. After 60 d, a subset of the fish was injected intraperitoneally with 3 × 107 CFU ml-1 of P. aeruginosa. Results showed that body weight gain, feed conversion ratio and specific growth rates were significantly increased in ZnO-NPs20 compared to all other groups. The dietary supplementation with 20 mg kg-1 of ZnO-NPs improved the antioxidant status of fish. Moreover, IgM, lysozyme and nitric oxide showed a significant increase in the fish which received the ZnO-NPs20-supplemented diet. A significant upregulation of growth and stress-related genes was seen in the ZnO-NPs20-supplemented group compared to other groups. However, there was no significant difference in the expression of immune-related genes among ZnO-NPs20, ZnO-NPs30 and ZnO30 groups. These findings highlight the potential use of nano-ZnO for improving growth performance, antioxidant status, immunological status and antibacterial activity against P. aeruginosa in African catfish.

Abstract
This study focused on agro-industrial waste such as fruit peels by extracting prebiotics as a carbon source for lactic acid bacteria (LAB). Four strains of LAB were selected from Oreochromis niloticus (B2 and B3) and Nemipterus japonicas (R4 and R5), and identified as Lactococcus garvieae through 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The analysis of probiotic characteristics revealed that all four strains were able to tolerate sodium chloride (up to 7 %), bile salt (up to 3 %), and broad range of pH (2-9). Further, analysis of polysaccharide contents in the agro-industrial waste materials such as peels of pineapple, orange, lemon, sugarcane, pomegranate, and sweet lemon revealed that the concentration ranged from 3.91-163.85 mg/g. It was observed that orange peels (20.38-140.99 mg/g), sweet lemon peels (22.03-161.93 mg/g), and pomegranate peels (38.19-163.85 mg/g) yielded maximum indigestible polysaccharide. Evaluation of synbiotic combination of probiotic and prebiotic revealed that L. garvieae strains had better fermentation efficiency with orange, sweet lemon, and pineapple compared to lemon, sugarcane, and pomegranate. In nutshell, different types of agro-industrial waste evaluated in this research were found to be a cheap and fermentable carbon sources for LAB. Further study should be conducted to analyze this symbiotic combination as feed supplements for fish in aquaculture as well as various fermentation industries.

Abstract
A promising area for improving probiotics is the search for new sources of strains and the development of complex preparations which would include different types of bacterial cultures that complement each other. Sources of selection may be traditional dairy products, in particular, cheeses made from raw milk. Wild strains can be endowed with antibacterial properties. The antagonistic action of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) has long attracted the attention of researchers and scientists. The aim of the study was to investigate the antagonistic activity against pathogenic and opportunistic microorganisms of LAB strains isolated from traditional Carpathian cheese. Three samples of cheese were selected for the research – one sample of brynza and budz (brynza before salting), made in the highlands of the Carpathians, and one sample of budz, made in the foothills. LAB were identified using classic microbiological and modern molecular genetic methods (RAPD-PCR, RFLP-PCR, 16S rRNA gene sequencing). The objects of our studies were five strains of LAB: Lactococcus lactis IMAU32258, L. garvieae JB2826472, Enterococcus durans FMA8, E. faecium L3-23, E. faecium IMAU9421. Technological parameters such as acid-forming activity of milk fermentation, resistance to high concentrations of NaCl and temperature optimums of cultivation were taken as the main criteria for assessing the suitability of LAB for inclusion in fermentation preparations. Antagonistic activity was determined by agar diffusion (agar well method) and optic density of test cultures using a Multiscan FC microplate reader (Thermo scientifiс, USA) at the wave of 620 nm. There were four reference strains of pathogenic and opportunistic microorganisms were test cultures: Listeria monocytogenes PCM 2191, Staphylococcus aureus PCM 458, Escherichia coli PCM 2208, Salmonella typhimurium PCM 2182. Strains of the test cultures were received from the collection of microorganisms of the Institute of Biology and Biotechnology the (University of Rzeszów, Poland). According to the ability of LAB strains to form lactic acid, L. lactis IMAU32258 was the best acid-forming agent with an acid-forming energy of 94 °T. E. faecium was characterized by moderate levels of active and titratable acidity. Less pronounced acid-forming ability was determined for the species E. durans and L. garvieae. Cultures of the genus E. faecium, L. garvieae and E. durans were the most resistant to high concentrations of NaCl (6.5%). Regarding temperature optimums, we found that strains of E. faecium and E. durans species grew both at temperatures of 10, 15 and 45 °C, whereas no growth of L. lactis IMAU32258 and L. garvieae JB282647 2 was observed at 45 °C. Among the studied bacteria, the strains of E. durans FMA8 and E. faecium L3-23 were characterized by the highest antagonistic activity in producing the largest zones of growth inhibition and optic density of pathogenic and opportunistic microorganisms. The strain L. garvieae JB282647 2 exhibited the lowest level of antagonistic activity against pathogenic and opportunistic microorganisms.

Abstract
Infectious diseases caused by bacteria that can be transmitted via food, livestock and humans are always a concern to the public, as majority of them may cause severe illnesses and death. Antibacterial agents have been investigated for the treatment of bacterial infections. Antibiotics are the most successful antibacterial agents that have been used widely for decades to ease human pain caused by bacterial infections. Nevertheless, the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria has raised awareness amongst public about the downside of using antibiotics. The threat of antibiotic resistance to global health, food security and development has been emphasized by the World Health Organization (WHO), and research studies have been focused on alternative antimicrobial agents. Bacteriocin, a natural antimicrobial peptide, has been chosen to replace antibiotics for its application in food preservation and infectious disease treatment for livestock and humans, as it is less toxic. Abstract
Understanding the honeybee gut bacteria is an essential aspect as honeybees are the primary pollinators of many crops. In this study, the honeybee-associated gut bacteria were investigated by targeting the V3-V4 region of 16S rRNA genes using the Illumina MiSeq. The adult worker was captured in an urban area in a dense settlement. In total, 83,018 reads were obtained, revealing six phyla from 749 bacterial operational taxonomic units (OTUs). The gut was dominated by Proteobacteria (58% of the total reads, including Enterobacteriaceae 28.2%, Erwinia 6.43%, and Klebsiella 4.90%), Firmicutes (29% of the total reads, including Lactococcus garvieae 13.45%, Lactobacillus spp. 8.19%, and Enterococcus spp. 4.47%), and Actinobacteria (8% of the total reads, including Bifidobacterium spp. 7.96%). Many of these bacteria belong to the group of lactic acid bacteria (LAB), which was claimed to be composed of beneficial bacteria involved in maintaining a healthy host. The honeybee was identified as Apis nigrocincta based on an identity BLAST search of its COI region. This study is the first report on the gut microbial community structure and composition of A. nigrocincta from Indonesia.

Abstract
Probiotics administration in aquafeed is known to increase feed consumption and absorption due to their capacity to release a wide range of digestive enzymes and nutrients which can participate in digestion process and feed utilization, along with the absorption of diet components led to an increase in host's health and well-being. Furthermore, probiotics improve gut maturation, prevention of intestinal disorders, predigestion of antinutrient factors found in the feed ingredients, gut microbiota, disease resistance against pathogens and metabolism. The beneficial immune effects of probiotics are well established in finfish. However, in comparison, similar studies are less abundant in the shellfish. In this review, the discussions will mainly focus on studies reported the last 2 years. In recent studies, native probiotic bacteria were isolated and fed back to their hosts. Although beneficial effects were demonstrated, some studies showed adverse effects when treated with a high concentration. This adverse effect may be due to the imbalance of the gut microbiota caused by the replenished commensal probiotics. Probiotics revealed greatest effect on the shrimp digestive system particularly in the larval and early post-larval stages, and stimulate the production of endogenous enzymes in shrimp and contribute with improved the enzyme activities in the gut, as well as disease resistance.
