Facile synthesis of NiO-CYSO nanocomposite for photocatalytic and antibacterial applications

The high impact of zinc chromium oxide nanocombs on development of larvicidal and antimicrobial performance

Zinc chromium oxide (Cr/ZnO, 5wt.%) was prepared by a facile chemical co-precipitation route. The structure, composition, and chemical bonding were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) indicating that chromium ions were integrated the host framework to form Cr/ZnO nanocomposite. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) micrographs showed comb-shaped nanoparticles with an average size 20 nm and large surface area. The energy gap of the thin films was estimated from T% and R% measurements which exhibit a strong optical absorption edge close to the visible spectrum. The insecticidal activity of the synthesized nanocombs against C. pipiens larvae was evaluated with LC50 (30.15 ppm) and LC90 (100.22 ppm). Besides, the nanocomposite showed high antibacterial performance against gram-positive bacteria (Bacillus subtilis) and gram-negative bacteria (Proteus vulgaris) with inhibition zones 21.9 and 19 mm, respectively.

Biosynthesis of JC-La2CoO4 magnetic nanoparticles explored in catalytic and SMMs properties

We have reported the synthesis of JC-La2CoO4 magnetic nanoparticles from Jatropha Curcas L. leaf extract in aqueous medium and potential application study in catalytic & Single Molecule Magnets (SMMs). Several techniques were used to investigate the structural, morphological, and elemental composition, particle size, optical properties, catalytic and magnetic properties by XRD, FTIR, SEM, EDAX, XPS, UV-visible and squid magnetic measurement. It was found that the crystallite sizes and grain sizes of JC-La2CoO4 NPs were 11.3 ± 1 and 24.1 ± 1 nm respectively and surface morphology of the nanoparticles looks spherical shape with good surface area. The band gap of JC-La2CoO4 was found to be 4.95 eV indicates good semiconductor in nature. XPS studies shows that La and Co present in + 3 and + 2 oxidation state respectively and suggest the composition formula is La2CoO4 with satisfied all the valency of metal ions. The photocatalytic efficiency of La2CoO4 shows good result against methylene blue (MB) compared to other dyes like MO, NO, RhB in presence of sunlight with rate constant 56.73 × 10-3 min-1 and completely degraded within 115 mints. The importance of JC-La2CoO4 has magnetic properties with antiferromagnetic coupling and SMMs properties with nature.

Green synthesis, characterization, antibacterial, and antifungal activity of copper oxide nanoparticles derived from Morinda citrifolia leaf extract

The green methodologies of nanoparticles with plant extracts have received an increase of interest. Copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) have been utilized in a many of applications in the last few decades. The current study presents the synthesis of CuO NPs with aqueous extract of Morinda citrifolia as a stabilizing agent. The leaf extract of Morinda citrifolia was mixed with a solution of copper sulphate (CuSO4·5H2O) and sodium hydroxide as a catalyst. UV-visible spectroscopy, FTIR, XRD, SEM, TEM, and EDAX analysis were performed to study the synthesized CuO NPs. Particle size distribution of the synthesized CuO NPs have been measured with dynamic light scattering. The CuO NPs synthesized were highly stable, sphere-like, and have size of particles from 20 to 50 nm. Furthermore, as-formed CuO NPs shown strong antibacterial activity against the Gram-positive bacteria (Bacillus subtilis, and Staphylococcus aureus), and Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli). CuO NPs revealed a similar trend was analysed for antifungal activity. The zone of inhibition for the fungi evaluated for Aspergillus flavus (13.0 ± 1.1), Aspergillus niger (14.3 ± 0.7), and Penicillium frequentans (16.8 ± 1.4). According to the results of this investigation, green synthesized CuO NPs with Morinda citrifolia leaf extract may be used in biomedicine as a replacement agent for biological applications.

Effect of indium (III) doping on Ag3PO4 catalyst stabilization and its visible light photocatalytic activity toward toxic dyes in water

Indium(III)-doped Ag3PO4 (In-AgP) catalysts at different weight percentages were elaborated by co-precipitation and subjected to XRD, SEM, UV-vis DRS, and FTIR characterization. The prepared catalysts were of spherical morphology and their diameters depends on doping dosage. The whole materials crystallize in a centered cubic system with a slight dissimilation in the positions of the characteristic peaks as a function of indium dosage. The photocatalytic performance of the catalysts under visible light was investigated in the photocatalytic degradation of anionic dye (methyl orange (MO)) and cationic dye (auramine O (AO)) in moderate acid, neutral, and basic pH conditions. Results showed more selectivity to MO than AO. Furthermore, indium-doped samples are more active in the acidic medium than the pure Ag3PO4 (AgP), and 10%In-AgP catalyst presents the highest activity. The degradation efficiency reached 99 % in 60 min for MO and in 180 min for AO. In addition, a high recycling stability was achieved and the catalyst retains its degradation capacity above 99 % after five cycles.

Design of V2O5 Blocks Decorated with Garlic Peel Biochar Nanoparticles: A Sustainable Catalyst for the Degradation of Methyl Orange and Its Antioxidant Activity

In this study, novel V2O5-decorated garlic peel biochar (VO/GPB) nanocomposites are prepared via the facile hydrothermal technique. As-synthesized VO/GPB is characterized by various spectroscopic and analytical techniques. The surface morphology of the as-prepared samples was predicted by SEM analysis, which shows that the block-like V2O5 was uniformly decorated on the stone-like GPB surface. The elemental mapping analysis confirms the VO/GPB composite is composed of the following elements: C, O, Na, Mg, Si, P, K, and V, without any other impurities. The photocatalytic activity of the VO/GPB nanocomposite was examined by the degradation of methyl orange (MO) under the irradiation of visible light; 84% degradation efficiency was achieved within 30 min. The reactive oxidative species (ROS) study reveals that hydroxyl and superoxide radicals play an essential role in MO degradation. Moreover, the antioxidant action of the VO/GPB nanocomposite was also investigated. From the results, the VO/GPB composite has higher antioxidant activity compared to ascorbic acid; the scavenging effect increased with increasing concentrations of VO/GPB composite until it reached 40 mg/L, where the scavenging effect was the highest at 93.86%. This study will afford innovative insights into other photocatalytic nanomaterials with effective applications in the field of photocatalytic studies with environmental compensation.

Integration of ZnO nanorods with silver ions by a facile co-precipitation for antimicrobial, larvicidal, and ovicidal activity

BACKGROUND

Infectious diseases prompted by micro-organisms such as fungi, parasites, or microbes, have influenced many countries' public health causing death. Scientists declared that metal oxide composites have various advantages in the medical field such as the antimicrobial feature has freshly been revealed as well as its role in suppressing mosquito population.

METHODS

In this work silver doped zinc oxide nanorods (Ag/ZnO NRs, 10 wt.%) were prepared by simple chemical route, and their microstructural characteristics were investigated by XRD, EDX, SEM, and TEM techniques. The antimicrobial, larvicidal, and ovicidal of the synthesized nanocomposites were examined.

RESULTS

The synthesized nanocomposite exhibited binary phase of crystallite size 112 nm was calculated from Williamson-Hall method. EDX spectrum revealed the purity of the composite consists of Zn, O, and Ag elements. The SEM and TEM micrographs showed the particles in nanorods with high density on the surface. The energy gap [Formula: see text] was evaluated from the UV-Vis absorbance in the range from 2.90 [Formula: see text] 3.08 eV inside the visible spectrum. The antimicrobial activity of the nanorods was examined against Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis) with inhibition zones 10.5 and 14.5 mm, respectively. Whereas gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli, Salmonella Typhimurium, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) were 14 and 17 mm, respectively. Further, Candida albicans was investigated with inhibition zone 7.5 mm. Besides, the insecticidal impact of the nanocomposite against Culex pipiens larvae was performed at 30 mg/l causing 100% larval mortality with LC50 (11.78 mg/l). The micrograph images showed deformations in the larval body as well as egg resulting in zero egg hatchability.

CONCLUSION

The findings approved that synthesized nanorods have a significant impact on controlling pathogens that impart different diseases to humans and the environment.

Effect of the molar ratio of (Ni2+ and Fe3+) on the magnetic, optical and antibacterial properties of ternary metal oxide CdO-NiO-Fe2O3 nanocomposites

In this work, the effect of the molar ratio of (Ni²⁺ and Fe³⁺) on the properties of CdO-NiO-Fe₂O₃ nanocomposites was investigated. The synthesis of CdO-NiO-Fe₂O₃ nanocomposites was carried out by self-combustion. XRD, UV-Vis, PL and VSM were used to describe the physical properties of the materials. The results showed significant progress in structural and optical properties supporting antibacterial activity. For all samples, the particle size decreased from 28.96 to 24.95 nm with increasing Ni²⁺ content and decreasing Fe³⁺ content, as shown by the XRD pattern, which also shows the crystal structure of cubic CdO, cubic NiO, and cubic γ-Fe₂O₃ spinel. The Ni²⁺ and Fe³⁺ contents in the CdO-NiO-Fe₂O₃ nanocomposites have also been shown to enhance the ferromagnetic properties. Due to the significant coupling between Fe₂O₃ and NiO, the coercivity H_c values of the samples increase from 66.4 to 266 Oe. The potential of the nanocomposites for antibacterial activity was investigated against Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram-negative (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Moraxella catarrhalis) bacteria. Comparison of P. aeruginosa with E. coli, S. aureus and M. catarrhalis showed that it has a stronger antibacterial activity with a ZOI of 25 mm.

Cytotoxicity evaluation of environmentally friendly synthesis Copper/Zinc bimetallic nanoparticles on MCF-7 cancer cells

Bimetallic nanoparticles offer unique chemical, physical and optical properties that are not available for monometallic nanoparticles. Bimetallic nanoparticles play a major role in various therapeutic, industrial and energy fields. Recently, nanoparticles of Copper/Zinc bimetallic nanoparticles have attracted attention in various fields, especially medicine. In this study, bimetallic CuO/ZnO nanostructures were biosynthesized using plant extracts. The plant-mediated synthesis nanoparticles were characterized by Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) and Energy-Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDAX). The cytotoxicity of plant-mediated synthesis bimetallic nanoparticles and the synergistic effects of these nanoparticles in combination with the anticancer drug doxorubicin on MCF-7 cancer cells were evaluated by MTT assay.
