Abstract
The perovskite device, incorporating a modified nanostructure of TiO2 as the electron transport layer, has been investigated to enhance its performance compared to the pure TiO2 device. Various materials undergo electrochemical doping or treatment on TiO2 to improve their photocatalytic application, thereby enhancing the current density, minimizing recombination, and improving device stability. In this study, a numerical SCAPS simulation was employed to validate experimental findings from the literature. According to the literature, this marks the first instance of doping Al3+ and Mg2+ on TiO2 due to their ionic radius comparable to that of Ti4+, at different doping concentrations. The device was modeled and simulated with the experimental parameters of bandgap, series, and shunt resistances for pure TiO2, aluminum-doped TiO2 (Al-TiO2), and magnesium-doped TiO2 (Mg-TiO2). From the validated results, the Al-TiO2 and Mg-TiO2-based devices' configurations with minimum percentage errors of 0.427 and 2.771%, respectively, were selected and simulated across nearly 90 (90) configurations to determine the optimum device model. Optimizing absorber thickness, bandgap, doping concentration, metal electrode, as well as series and shunt resistance resulted in enhanced device performance. According to the proposed model, Al-TiO2 and Mg-TiO2 configurations achieved higher power conversion efficiency values of 19.260 and 19.860%, respectively. This improvement is attributed to the reduction in recombination rates through the injection of a higher photocurrent density.

Abstract
Investigating superconductivity represents one of the most significant phenomena in the field of condensed matter physics. Our simulations aim to elucidate the structures in the metallic state of Mg1-xMoxB2, which is essential for predicting their superconducting properties. By employing a first-principle cluster expansion and particle-swarm optimization, we have predicted the structures of Mg1-xMoxB2 ternary alloys, including Mg0.667Mo0.333B2, Mg0.5Mo0.5B2, and Mg0.333Mo0.667B2, and have determined their thermodynamically stable configurations under both atmospheric and high-pressure conditions. To investigate the potential for superconductivity in these structures, we have conducted a detailed examination of electronic properties that are pertinent to determining the superconducting state. Regarding superconducting properties, Mg0.333Mo0.667B2 exhibits superconductivity with a critical temperature (Tc) of 7.4 K at ambient pressure. These findings suggest that the theoretically predicted structures in Mg/Mo-substituted metal borides could play a significant role in synthesis and offer valuable insights into superconducting materials.

Abstract
In this paper, we investigate the decomposition of a toxic organic compound, Rhodamine B, by the photocatalytic activities of undoped and nitrogen-doped ZrO2 thin films, deposited using the HiPIMS technique. The investigation was performed in the presence and in the absence of H2O2, for two types of experimental arrangements: the irradiation of the films, followed by dipping them in the Rhodamine B solutions, and the irradiation of the films dipped in the solution. The two situations were named "direct irradiation" and "indirect irradiation", respectively. Methods like XRD, AFM, XPS, DRS, water/film surface contact angle, and spectrophotometry were used to obtain information on the films' structure, surface morphology, elemental composition of the films surface, optical band gap, hydrophilicity, and photocatalytic activity, respectively. All these properties were described and correlated. By N-doping ZrO2, the films become absorbent in the visible domain, so that the solar light could be efficiently used; the films' hydrophilic properties improve, which is an important fact in self-cleaning applications; and the films' photocatalytic activity for the decomposition of Rhodamine B becomes better. The addition of hydrogen peroxide acted as an inhibitor for all systems and not as an accelerator of the photocatalytic reactions as expected.

Abstract
The optical properties of 5wt% Fe3O4-TiO2 thin films were evaluated in detail with the aim of proposing a mechanism for solar photocatalytic processes and highlighting the advantages over the use of bare TiO2. The results showed that the incorporation of 5wt% Fe3O4 enhanced the optical properties by a redshift to a wavelength in the visible range, reducing the anatase/rutile band gap energy from 3.2 eV to 2.8 eV. Photoluminescence studies reveal a superior separation efficiency of photoexcited electron-hole pairs when Fe3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) are present in the photocatalyst. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy spectra confirm the presence of Fe3O4 and existence of a chemical bonding between TiO2 and Fe3O4 NPs. Moreover, in this study, a mechanism of solar photocatalytic processes involving Fe3O4-TiO2 thin films is proposed and it is supported by experimental results. Finally, solar photocatalytic experiments were carried out, indicating that the effectiveness for the removal of the selected pharmaceutical is considerably improved when the composite material is used as catalyst. Furthermore, it was demonstrated that the photocatalytic activity of the prepared Fe3O4-TiO2 thin films depends on their thickness, achieving the highest pharmaceutical removal yields using the 2 µm thick sample. The stability and reusability of the catalyst was confirmed studying the photocatalytic activity over three cycles.

Abstract
Heterostructures of TiO2@Fe2O3 with a specific electronic structure and morphology enable us to control the interfacial charge transport necessary for their efficient photocatalytic performance. In spite of the extensive research, there still remains a profound ambiguity as far as the band alignment at the interface of TiO2@Fe2O3 is concerned. In this work, the extended type I heterojunction between anatase TiO2 nanocrystals and α-Fe2O3 hematite nanograins is proposed. Experimental evidence supporting this conclusion is based on direct measurements such as optical spectroscopy, X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), and the results of indirect studies of photocatalytic decomposition of rhodamine B (RhB) with selected scavengers of various active species of OH•, h•, e-, and •O2-. The presence of small 6-8 nm Fe2O3 crystallites at the surface of TiO2 has been confirmed in HRTEM images. Irregular 15-50 nm needle-like hematite grains could be observed in scanning electron micrographs. Substitutional incorporation of Fe3+ ions into the TiO2 crystal lattice is predicted by a 0.16% decrease in lattice parameter a and a 0.08% change of c, as well as by a shift of the Raman Eg(1) peak from 143 cm-1 in pure TiO2 to 149 cm-1 in Fe2O3-modified TiO2. Analysis of O 1s XPS spectra corroborates this conclusion, indicating the formation of oxygen vacancies at the surface of titanium(IV) oxide. The presence of the Fe3+ impurity level in the forbidden band gap of TiO2 is revealed by the 2.80 eV optical transition. The size effect is responsible for the absorption feature appearing at 2.48 eV. Increased photocatalytic activity within the visible range suggests that the electron transfer involves high energy levels of Fe2O3. Well-programed experiments with scavengers allow us to eliminate the less probable mechanisms of RhB photodecomposition and propose a band diagram of the TiO2@Fe2O3 heterojunction.

Abstract
The formation of Ag nanoparticles on the surface of TiO2 (AgNP/TiO2) to enhance photocatalytic efficiency was studied. The Ag nanoparticles (AgNP) size, form, and distribution dependence on the initial thickness of Ag thin films, annealing temperature, and time were analyzed. The optimal annealing temperature of 400 °C and annealing time of 60 min were chosen to form AgNP from the initial Ag thin films with a thickness of 5, 7.5, and 10 nm. The formation of AgNP was done on amorphous TiO2 (a-TiO2), which crystallized into the anatase phase after the annealing. The photocatalytic efficiency (k–degradation rate constant, Defi–degradation efficiency) was evaluated by the photodegradation of Rhodamine B aqueous solution. The results suggested that the highest photocatalytic efficiency of Rhodamine B aqueous solution was reached where the average diameter (DA) of AgNP was ~38 nm (k38 = 0.017 min−1, Defi_38 = 63.5%), compared to 27 and 82 nm (k27 = 0.012 min−1, Defi_27 = 51.2% and k82 = 0.011 min−1, Defi_82 = 52.1%, respectively). The acquired results did not show clear correlation between the size and distribution of the AgNP on the TiO2 surface and photocatalytic efficiency. Nevertheless, the results suggest that AgNP can enhance the photocatalytic efficiency of TiO2 thin films (kTiO2 = 0.008 min−1, Defi_TiO2 = 36.3%).

Abstract
Fe3+-TiO2 (Fe-TiO2) thin films were successfully prepared using a "sandwich" approach. TiO2 NPs were doped with different Fe3+ content (0.05%, 0.1%, 0.2% molar ratio), and the modified TiO2 NPs were deposited on glass flat support by dip coating.Structural, morphological, optical, and photocatalytic properties of Fe-TiO2 thin films were studied. XPS spectra confirm the presence of Ti, Fe, O, and defective -OH groups at the material surface. The Fe 2p spectrum demonstrates the existence of Fe3+. SEM images indicate that the incorporation of Fe3+ deforms in some degree the homogeneity of the TiO2 system. Additionally, incorporation of Fe3+ ions to the network creates an impurity band near the VB due to the oxygen vacancies, resulting in the reduction of the effective optical band gap. Photocatalytic activity of fabricated thin films in the elimination of sulfamethoxazole (SMT) follows pseudo first-order kinetics. The highest SMT removal yields were achieved using the sample with 0.05%Fe. Additionally, the use of greater thicknesses improves the removal performance. However, material detachment limits the maximum usable value around 6 µm.Finally, stability and reusability of catalysts were confirmed studying the photocatalytic activity over three cycles and evaluating that no Fe3+ leaching occurred.
