Abstract
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most prevalent joint disease in the elderly population and its substantial morbidity and disability impose a heavy economic burden on patients and society. Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is the most common subtype of OA, which is characterized by damage to progressive articular cartilage, synovitis, and subchondral bone sclerosis. Most current treatments for OA are palliative, primarily aim at symptom management, and do not prevent the progression of the disease or restore degraded cartilage. The activation of α-granules in platelets releases various growth factors that are involved in multiple stages of tissue repair, suggesting potential for disease modification. In recent years, platelet-based therapies, such as platelet-rich plasma, platelet-rich fibrin, and platelet lysates, have emerged as promising regenerative treatments for KOA, but their related effects and mechanisms are still unclear. Therefore, this review aims to summarize the biological characteristics and functions of platelets, classify the products of platelet-based therapy and related preparation methods. Moreover, we summarize the basic research of platelet-based regeneration strategies for KOA and discuss the cellular effects and molecular mechanisms. Further, we describe the general clinical application of platelet-based therapy in the treatment of KOA and the results of the meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Abstract
Pressure ulcers (PU) are caused by persistent long-term pressure, which compromises the integrity of the epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous adipose tissue layer by layer, making it difficult to heal. Platelet products such as platelet lysate (PL) can promote tissue regeneration by secreting numerous growth factors based on clinical studies on skin wound healing. However, the components of PL are difficult to retain in wounds. Gelatin methacrylate (GelMA) is a photopolymerizable hydrogel that has lately emerged as a promising material for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. The PL liquid was extracted, flow cytometrically detected for CD41a markers, and evenly dispersed in the GelMA hydrogel to produce a surplus growth factor hydrogel system (PL@GM). The microstructure of the hydrogel system was observed under a scanning electron microscope, and its sustained release efficiency and biological safety were tested in vitro. Cell viability and migration of human dermal fibroblasts, and tube formation assays of human umbilical vein endothelial cells were applied to evaluate the ability of PL to promote wound healing and regeneration in vitro. Real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and western blot analyses were performed to elucidate the skin regeneration mechanism of PL. We verified PL's therapeutic effectiveness and histological analysis on the PU model. PL promoted cell viability, migration, wound healing and angiogenesis in vitro. Real-time PCR and western blot indicated PL suppressed inflammation and promoted collagen I synthesis by activating STAT3. PL@GM hydrogel system demonstrated optimal biocompatibility and favorable effects on essential cells for wound healing. PL@GM also significantly stimulated PU healing, skin regeneration, and the formation of subcutaneous collagen and blood vessels. PL@GM could accelerate PU healing by promoting fibroblasts to migrate and secrete collagen and endothelial cells to vascularize. PL@GM promises to be an effective and convenient treatment modality for PU, like chronic wound treatment.

Abstract
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has emerged as a promising treatment in aesthetic dermatology. This systematic review aims to evaluate the current evidence for PRP applications in skin rejuvenation, hair restoration, wound healing, and fat grafting. Following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, a comprehensive literature search was conducted across multiple databases and 13 studies meeting the inclusion criteria were selected for review. The Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT) was used to assess the quality of included studies. The reviewed studies consistently reported positive outcomes for PRP across various applications. In skin rejuvenation, significant improvements in collagen density and overall skin appearance were observed. For hair restoration, studies showed mean increases of 18-27.7 hairs/cm² in treated areas. PRP demonstrated efficacy in accelerating wound healing across various wound types, including chronic ulcers. In fat grafting, PRP was associated with improved graft survival and integration. Patient satisfaction was generally high across all applications. However, there was significant heterogeneity in PRP preparation methods and treatment protocols among studies. This systematic review provides evidence supporting the efficacy of PRP in aesthetic dermatology, particularly in skin rejuvenation, hair restoration, wound healing, and fat grafting. PRP demonstrates a favorable safety profile across applications. However, the variability in study designs and PRP protocols highlights the need for standardization. Future research should focus on large-scale randomized controlled trials with standardized protocols and longer follow-up periods to solidify the evidence base for PRP in aesthetic dermatology.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the efficacy of a single injection of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) into the anterior vaginal wall at the mid-urethra compared to placebo, as there is emerging evidence that PRP may help treat female stress urinary incontinence (SUI). METHODS This was a single-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial at a single institution. Females with bothersome, demonstrable stress-predominant urinary incontinence were enrolled. Participants were randomized to either injection of 5 mL autologous PRP or saline at the anterior vaginal wall at the mid-urethra. The primary outcome was composite treatment success at 6 months, defined as a negative cough stress test and an answer of "much better" or "very much better" on the Patient's Global Impression of Improvement. RESULTS Fifty patients were enrolled in the study and randomized to the PRP group (n = 25) or the saline placebo group (n = 25). There was no statistically significant difference in the primary outcome between the 2 groups. Adverse events were minor, and the rate of adverse events was similar between both groups. CONCLUSION In this randomized placebo-controlled study, we were unable to demonstrate a difference in SUI treatment success between PRP and saline injections. At this time, there is insufficient evidence to offer a one-time PRP injection into the anterior vaginal wall for treatment of female SUI.

Abstract
BACKGROUND As the demand for non-invasive esthetic procedures to maintain a youthful appearance increases, there has been growing interest in the use of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-poor plasma (PPP) for the treatment of facial aging. However, there are few studies directly comparing the efficacy of PRP and PPP for facial rejuvenation. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to compare the efficacy of PRP and PPP for facial rejuvenation. METHODS This single-center, double-blind, randomized controlled trial was conducted from January 1, 2022, to July 31, 2022, and included ten participants who completed the follow-up. The participants were randomly assigned to receive 2.5-mL injections of PRP and PPP on different sides of the face in three sessions with 1-month intervals. The outcome was primarily determined by blinded photographic assessments and secondly by scores of the VISIA® system during the follow-up. RESULTS Both PRP and PPP treatments resulted in significant improvement in the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scales and Modified Fitzpatrick Wrinkle Scale for periocular Powered by Editorial Manager® and ProduXion Manager® from Aries Systems Corporation wrinkles, with no significant difference between the two groups. However, no improvement was observed in the Wrinkle Severity Rating Scales for nasolabial folds in either the PRP- or PPP-treated groups. Furthermore, no severe adverse events were reported. CONCLUSIONS Both PRP and PPP are effective in treating facial photoaging. PRP exhibited slightly superior efficacy in enhancing overall skin condition, while PPP was slightly more effective in improving shallow wrinkles. This study provides valuable evidence for the use of PRP and PPP in facial rejuvenation procedures. Abstract
Skin injury repair is a dynamic process involving a series of interactions over time and space. Linking human physiological processes with materials' changes poses a significant challenge. To match the wound healing process, a spatiotemporal controllable biomimetic skin is developed, which comprises a three-dimensional (3D) printed membrane as the epidermis, a cell-containing hydrogel as the dermis, and a cytokine-laden hydrogel as the hypodermis. In the initial stage of the biomimetic skin repair wound, the membrane frame aids wound closure through pre-tension, while cells proliferate within the hydrogel. Next, as the frame disintegrates over time, cells released from the hydrogel migrate along the residual membrane. Throughout the process, continuous cytokines release from the hypodermis hydrogel ensures comprehensive nourishment. The findings reveal that in the rat full-thickness skin defect model, the biomimetic skin demonstrated a wound closure rate eight times higher than the blank group, and double the collagen content, particularly in the early repair process. Consequently, it is reasonable to infer that this biomimetic skin holds promising potential to accelerate wound closure and repair. This biomimetic skin with mechanobiological effects and spatiotemporal regulation emerges as a promising option for tissue regeneration engineering.

Abstract
Wounds and the subsequent formation of scars constitute a unified and complex phased process. Effective treatment is crucial; however, the diverse therapeutic approaches for different wounds and scars, as well as varying treatment needs at different stages, present significant challenges in selecting appropriate interventions. Microneedle patch (MNP), as a novel minimally invasive transdermal drug delivery system, has the potential for integrated and programmed treatment of various diseases and has shown promising applications in different types of wounds and scars. In this comprehensive review, the latest applications and biotechnological innovations of MNPs in these fields are thoroughly explored, summarizing their powerful abilities to accelerate healing, inhibit scar formation, and manage related symptoms. Moreover, potential applications in various scenarios are discussed. Additionally, the side effects, manufacturing processes, and material selection to explore the clinical translational potential are investigated. This groundwork can provide a theoretical basis and serve as a catalyst for future innovations in the pursuit of favorable therapeutic options for skin tissue regeneration.

Abstract
The rapid and effective healing of skin wounds resulted from severe injuries and full-layer skin defects remains a pressing clinical challenge in contemporary medical practice. The reduction of wound infection and rapid healing is helpful to rebuild and repair skin tissue. Here, a thermosensitive chitosan-based wound dressing hydrogel incorporating β-glycerophosphate (GP), hydroxy propyl cellulose (HPC), graphene oxide (GO), and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is developed, which exhibits the dual functions of antibacterial properties and repair promotion. GP and HPC enhance the mechanical properties through forming hydrogen bonding connection, while GO produces local heat under near-infrared light, leading to improved blood circulation and skin recovery. Notably, antibacterial properties against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and control-release of growth factors from PRP are also achieved based on the system. In vitro experiments reveal its biocompatibility, and ability to promote cell proliferation and migration. Animal experiments demonstrate that the epithelial repair and collagen deposition can be promoted during skin wound healing in Sprague Dawley rats. Moreover, a reduction in wound inflammation levels and the improvement of wound microenvironment are observed, collectively fostering effective wound healing. Therefore, the composite hydrogel system incorporated with GO and PRP can be a promising dressing for the treatment of skin wounds.

Abstract
Introduction Androgenetic pattern of alopecia is a common problem occurring in men, which mostly arises from their younger age. There are many therapies advocated in the literature for hair loss reduction, and one of them is platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy. This study aimed to assess the efficacy of combined PRP therapy with topical minoxidil over PRP as monotherapy in hair loss reduction and regeneration of new hair. Materials and methods The study was conducted at our institute in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Saveetha Dental College and Hospital. The study consisted of 40 participants, 20 of whom had only PRP therapy as part of their treatment, while the other 20 participants received PRP combined with topical minoxidil as treatment. Both group participants were evaluated for postoperative hair shaft diameter and hair follicle density. Parameters were measured preoperatively and postoperatively after one month, two months, and three months. Data analysis was done with the help of SPSS, with P-values less than 0.05 considered statistically significant. The Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare the two groups for measurement of hair shaft diameter, and for comparison between hair follicle density, an unpaired t-test was used. Results It was found that the mean hair shaft diameter in the PRP with minoxidil group was higher than that of the PRP group for one month (P = 0.023), two months (P = 0.001), and three months (P = 0.001) postoperative periods, and the results were statistically significant. Hair follicle density (mean hair quantity) was higher in the PRP group than in the PRP with the minoxidil group in the first postoperative month. However, this difference was not statistically significant (P = 0.08). While the mean hair quantity in the PRP with minoxidil group was higher than that in the PRP group for two months (P = 0.45) and three months (P = 0.001) postoperative periods, the results were statistically significant only at the three-month postoperative period. Conclusion It can be concluded that injectable autologous PRP with minoxidil as a topical agent is a better treatment option for the improvement of both hair quality (hair shaft diameter) and hair quantity (hair follicle density) compared to plain autologous injectable PRP monotherapy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of the present study was to compare the therapeutic effects of activated platelet-rich plasma (PRP) prepared from elderly individuals and young adults to treat pressure ulcers (PUs), and to accumulate a theoretical basis for allogeneic PRP treatment of PUs in elderly patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS Whole blood was extracted from elderly individuals aged >65 y and young adult volunteers for PRP preparation, and platelet concentrations in whole blood and PRP were compared. Growth factors released from activated PRP were assayed using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. C57BL/6 mice were divided into three groups: the control saline, elderly-PRP (Group A), and young adult-PRP (Group B). Ischemia-reperfusion injury-induced PUs were established on the backs of mice. PUs were photographed on days 0, 5, and 10 to assess their sizes. Specimens were collected on day 10 and subjected to hematoxylin and eosin and Masson's staining. Immunohistochemical staining for CD31 was conducted to evaluate vascular formation, and cell invasion was assessed using a Transwell assay. The action of PRP on transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β)-dependent fibroblast activity and epithelial-mesenchymal transition was analyzed using immunofluorescence and Western blotting in vitro. RESULTS The platelet concentrations in whole blood and PRP of young adults were significantly higher than that in elderly individuals. The two PRP treatment groups had similar platelet enrichment coefficients of PRP. After activation, PRP from young adults produced significantly higher levels of platelet-derived growth factor, TGF-β, and vascular endothelial growth factor than PRP from elderly individuals (P < 0.05). The concentrations of platelet-derived growth factor, TGF-β, and vascular endothelial growth factor were positively correlated with the platelet concentrations in whole blood and PRP. The effects of PRP in regulating the expressions of TGF-β, α-smooth muscle actin, vimentin, and E-cadherin were observed in vivo and in vitro. The two PRP treatment groups exhibited better wound healing than the control group, as evidenced by more re-epithelialization, higher collagen content, skin fibrosis, and more blood vessel formation over time. Group B exhibited better wound healing than Group A (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION PRP exhibits potent wound healing ability in PU therapy, and PRP from young adults is seemingly superior to that from elderly individuals because of a higher concentration of platelets and increased production of growth factors.

Abstract
Considering the substantial impact of venous ulcers on quality of life and healthcare systems, this study evaluated the efficacy and safety of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in comparison to conventional therapy. A systematic review of four databases identified 16 randomized clinical trials, including 20 study groups. PRP significantly enhanced complete ulcer healing, exhibiting an odds ratio (OR) of 5.06 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.35-10.89), and increased the percentage of healed ulcer area by a mean difference of 47% (95% CI: 32%-62%). Additionally, PRP shortened the time required for complete healing by an average of 3.25 months (95% CI: -4.06 to -2.43). Although pain reduction was similar in both groups, PRP considerably decreased ulcer recurrence rates (OR = 0.16, 95% CI: 0.05-0.50) without increasing the risks of infection or irritative dermatitis. These results suggest PRP as a viable, safe alternative for venous ulcer treatment, providing significant improvements in healing outcomes.

Abstract
Wound healing is a complex and iterative process involving myriad cellular and biologic processes that are highly regulated to allow satisfactory repair and regeneration of damaged tissues. This review is intended to be an introductory chapter in a volume focusing on the use of platelet concentrates for tissue regeneration. In order to fully appreciate the clinical utility of these preparations, a sound understanding of the processes and factors involved in soft and hard tissue healing. This encompasses an appreciation of the cellular and biological mediators of both soft and hard tissues in general as well as specific consideration of the periodontal tissues. In light of good advances in this basic knowledge, there have been improvements in clinical strategies and therapeutic management of wound repair and regeneration. The use of platelet concentrates for tissue regeneration offers one such strategy and is based on the principles of cellular and biologic principles of wound repair discussed in this review.

Abstract
(1) Background: The management of persistent wounds is a topic of significant concern, particularly when they become chronic. Clinicians are focused on reducing the healing duration of chronic wounds and employing the most efficient treatments. Successful wound management requires an understanding of standard healing processes, the elements that can impede healing progress, and strategies to manage these impediments. (2) Methods: We participated in a study involving a cohort of 115 patients. Data were collected through subjective assessments via questionnaires, examining the comparative effects of laser therapy and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on patients' conditions and monitored the progression of chronic wounds. For the study, we utilized a branded laser equipped with a 12-watt probe to stimulate chronic wounds in 65 patients, while the PRP procedure was administered to 50 patients. (3) Results: We observed a greater improvement in local symptoms among the patients who received laser therapy compared to those in the PRP group. (4) Conclusions: We consider both therapies to be of significant importance due to their positive and beneficial effects, particularly on the symptomatology and progression of chronic wounds. Nevertheless, superior results were documented in patients who underwent laser therapy.

Abstract
In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the practice of regenerative medicine by health practitioners and direct-to-consumer businesses globally. Among different tools of regenerative medicine, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and stem cell-based therapies have received considerable attention. The use of PRP, in particular, has gained popularity due to its easy access, simple processing techniques, and regenerative potential. However, it is important to address a common misconception amongst the general public equating to PRP and stem cells due to the demonstrated efficacy of PRP in treating musculoskeletal and dermatological disorders. Notably, PRP promotes regeneration by providing growth factors or other paracrine factors only. Therefore, it cannot replenish or replace the lost cells in conditions where a large number of cells are required to regenerate tissues and/or organs. In such cases, cellbased therapies are the preferred option. Additionally, other tools of regenerative medicine, such as bioprinting, organoids, and mechanobiology also rely on stem cells for their success. Hence, healthcare and commercial entities offering direct-to-customer regenerative therapies should not mislead the public by claiming that the application of PRP is a stem cell-based therapy. Furthermore, it is important for regulatory bodies to strictly monitor these profit-driven entities to prevent them from providing unregulated regenerative treatments and services that claim a broad variety of benefits with little proof of efficacy, safety concerns, and obscure scientific justification.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The probiological healing effect of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) during tissue repair has recently gathered much attention. This study aimed to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of patients with diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) receiving PRP or conventional treatment to evaluate their efficacy. METHODS PubMed, Excerpta Medica Database (EMBASE), Cochrane Library, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) databases were comprehensively searched by 2 independent reviewers following PRISMA guidelines for the inclusion of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing PRP with conventional treatments for DFUs. The primary measurements of healing rate and healing time, the methodological quality and extracted data were assessed using Review Manager 5.3. Statistical significance was set at P < 0.05. RESULTS A total of 10 RCTs involving 550 patients were included in this study, PRP was observed to significantly improve the healing rate (risk ratio [RR] = 1.38, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.05-1.82, P = 0.02) and shorten the healing time (mean difference [MD] = -23.23, 95% CI -45.97 to -0.49, P = 0.05) of patients with DFU when compared to the conventional treatment. CONCLUSIONS Compared to conventional treatment, PRP effectively promoted the healing of patients with DFU by evidently improving the healing rate and healing time.

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the effects of ovarian injection of autologous platelet rich plasma (aPRP) on patients with poor ovarian responder (POR) based on the existing clinical evidence. Methods According to systematic review and meta-analysis, we comprehensively searched nine databases established as of September 6, 2023, and evaluated the impact of ovarian PRP infusion on poor ovarian responder. The research results include serum follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH) and anti-Mullerian hormone(AMH) levels, antral Follicle Count(AFC), oocyte number, and embryo number. The Newcastle Ottawa Scale (NOS) was used to evaluate the quality of inclusion in trials. Results Add up to 10 studies consisting of 793 participants were included in the meta-analysis. A review of existing evidence showed that intraovarian injection of PRP has significant therapeutic effects in increasing levels of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) (SMD=0.44,95% CI [0.07,0.81], p=0.02), antral follicle count (AFC) (MD=1.15,95% CI [0.4,1.90], p=0.003), oocyte count (MD=0.91, 95% CI [0.40, 1.41], p=0.0004), and embryo number (MD=0.78, 95% CI [0.5,1.07], p<0.0001). We compared the relevant data of patients before and after treatment after 2 months of intervention. It can be seen that ovarian injection of PRP treatment for 2 months has better effects in reducing FSH levels, increasing AMH levels, increasing antral follicle count, and increasing the number of oocytes and embryos (p<0.05). When the dose of PRP injected into each ovary was ≥ 4ml, there was also a significant correlation (p<0.05) with improving the number of AFC, oocytes and embryos. Significant heterogeneity existed among the studies. Conclusion The pooled results suggest that intra-ovarian injection of PRP can promote ovarian regeneration and improve the reproductive outcomes of patients with ovarian dysfunction. This therapy may have significant clinical potential in improving sex hormone levels, increasing AFC, oocyte count, and embryo count. However, this findings still requires more rigorous and extensive trials worldwide to determine the value of intra-ovarian injection of PRP in POR patients. Abstract
Vitiligo is a complex disease with a multifactorial nature and a high impact on the quality of life of patients. Although there are multiple therapeutic alternatives, there is currently no fully effective treatment for this disease. In the current era, multiple drugs are being developed for the treatment of autoimmune diseases. This review assesses the available evidence on the pathogenesis of vitiligo, and a comprehensive review of treatments available for vitiligo now and in the near future is provided. This qualitative analysis spans 116 articles. We reviewed the mechanism of action, efficacy and safety data of phototherapy, afamelanotide, cyclosporine, phosphodiesterase 4 inhibitors, trichloroacetic acid, basic fibroblast growth factor, tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors, secukinumab, pseudocatalase and janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors. At the moment, there is no clearly outstanding option or fully satisfactory treatment for vitiligo, so it is necessary to keep up the development of new drugs as well as the publication of long-term effectiveness and safety data for existing treatments.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To examine the use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for treatment of pilonidal disease (PD) and thus provide a reference for clinical application. METHODS A systematic review of PubMed and the Cochrane Library was performed in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses. We considered all studies that reported the use of PRP for treatment of PD. Extracted data included the first author's name, year of publication, study type, number of included patients, inclusion and exclusion criteria, interventions, anesthesia, application of PRP (source, preparation, dose, and operation), antibiotics, follow-up time, therapeutic outcomes, and adverse events. RESULTS In total, eight randomized controlled trials and one prospective cohort study involving 809 patients were included. PRP reduced pain, accelerated healing, and reduced adverse events. The application of combined minimally invasive surgery achieved better results. However, overfilling of the wound with PRP in minimally invasive surgeries was shown to potentially increase the risk of adverse events. CONCLUSION PRP can be used as an adjuvant treatment in PD surgery to improve the therapeutic effect and reduce adverse events. The optimal combination of PRP and various factors is an important direction of future research.INPLASY registration number: INPLASY2023100070.

Abstract
Diabetic non-healing wounds are bringing a heavy burden on patients and society. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been widely applied in tissue regenerating for containing various growth factors. Recently, PRP-derived exosomes (PRP-Exos) have been proved to be more effective than PRP in tissue regeneration. However, few studies have investigated the therapeutic potential of PRP-Exos in diabetic wound healing to date. Therefore, we extracted and identified exosomes derived from PRP and tested its promoting effect on diabetic wound healing in vivo and in vitro. We found that high glucose (HG) inhibited cell proliferation and migration and induced apoptosis through ROS-dependent activation of the JNK and p38 MAPK signaling pathways. PRP-Exos can stimulate fibroblast functions and accelerate diabetic wound healing. The benefits of PRP-Exos may be attributed to its capability to prevent HG-induced ROS-dependent apoptosis via the PDGF-BB/JAK2/STAT3/Bcl-2 signaling pathway. This illustrates the therapeutic potential of PRP-Exos in diabetic wounds.

Abstract
Engineered skin substitutes derived from human skin significantly reduce inflammatory reactions mediated by foreign/artificial materials and are consequently easier to use for clinical application. Type I collagen is a main component of the extracellular matrix during wound healing and has excellent biocompatibility, and platelet-rich plasma can be used as the initiator of the healing cascade. Adipose mesenchymal stem cell derived exosomes are crucial for tissue repair and play key roles in enhancing cell regeneration, promoting angiogenesis, regulating inflammation, and remodeling extracellular matrix. Herein, Type I collagen and platelet-rich plasma, which provide natural supports for keratinocyte and fibroblast adhesion, migration, and proliferation, are mixed to form a stable 3D scaffold. Adipose mesenchymal stem cell derived exosomes are added to the scaffold to improve the performance of the engineered skin. The physicochemical properties of this cellular scaffold are analyzed, and the repair effect is evaluated in a full-thickness skin defect mouse model. The cellular scaffold reduces the level of inflammation and promotes cell proliferation and angiogenesis to accelerate wound healing. Proteomic analysis shows that exosomes exhibit excellent anti-inflammatory and proangiogenic effects in collagen/platelet-rich plasma scaffolds. The proposed method provides a new therapeutic strategy and theoretical basis for tissue regeneration and wound repair.

Abstract
The global increase of cutaneous wounds imposes huge health and financial burdens on patients and society. Despite improved wound healing outcomes, conventional wound dressings are far from ideal, owing to the complex healing process. Smart wound dressings, which are sensitive to or interact with changes in wound condition or environment, have been proposed as appealing therapeutic platforms to effectively facilitate wound healing. In this review, the wound healing processes and features of existing biomaterials are firstly introduced, followed by summarizing the mechanisms of smart responsive materials. Afterwards, recent advances and designs in smart and versatile materials of extensive applications for cutaneous wound healing were submarined. Finally, clinical progresses, challenges and future perspectives of the smart wound dressing are discussed. Overall, by mapping the composition and intrinsic structure of smart responsive materials to their individual needs of cutaneous wounds, with particular attention to the responsive mechanisms, this review is promising to advance further progress in designing smart responsive materials for wounds and drive clinical translation.

Abstract
Platelets are small anucleated blood cells primarily known for their vital hemostatic role. Allogeneic platelet concentrates (PCs) collected from healthy donors are an essential cellular product transfused by hospitals to control or prevent bleeding in patients affected by thrombocytopenia or platelet dysfunctions. Platelets fulfill additional essential functions in innate and adaptive immunity and inflammation, as well as in wound-healing and tissue-repair mechanisms. Platelets contain mitochondria, lysosomes, dense granules, and alpha-granules, which collectively are a remarkable reservoir of multiple trophic factors, enzymes, and signaling molecules. In addition, platelets are prone to release in the blood circulation a unique set of extracellular vesicles (p-EVs), which carry a rich biomolecular cargo influential in cell-cell communications. The exceptional functional roles played by platelets and p-EVs explain the recent interest in exploring the use of allogeneic PCs as source material to develop new biotherapies that could address needs in cell therapy, regenerative medicine, and targeted drug delivery. Pooled human platelet lysates (HPLs) can be produced from allogeneic PCs that have reached their expiration date and are no longer suitable for transfusion but remain valuable source materials for other applications. These HPLs can substitute for fetal bovine serum as a clinical grade xeno-free supplement of growth media used in the in vitro expansion of human cells for transplantation purposes. The use of expired allogeneic platelet concentrates has opened the way for small-pool or large-pool allogeneic HPLs and HPL-derived p-EVs as biotherapy for ocular surface disorders, wound care and, potentially, neurodegenerative diseases, osteoarthritis, and others. Additionally, allogeneic platelets are now seen as a readily available source of cells and EVs that can be exploited for targeted drug delivery vehicles. This article aims to offer an in-depth update on emerging translational applications of allogeneic platelet biotherapies while also highlighting their advantages and limitations as a clinical modality in regenerative medicine and cell therapies.

Abstract
The emergence of multidrug-resistant bacteria contributes to the necessity of developing novel infection treatment approaches. This study was designed to evaluate the antimicrobial and wound healing activities of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in combination with β-lactams (ampicillin and/or oxacillin) for the application on methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)-infected skin. PRP was collected from the peripheral blood of healthy donors. The anti-MRSA activity was tested through a growth inhibition curve, colony-forming unit (CFU), and SYTO 9 assay. The PRP incorporation lowered the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of ampicillin and oxacillin against MRSA. The combination of β-lactams together with PRP showed a three-log CFU reduction of MRSA. The major components of PRP for eliminating MRSA were found to be the complement system and iron sequestration proteins, according to the proteomic analysis. The adhesive bacterial colony in the microplate was decreased from 2.9 × 107 to 7.3 × 105 CFU after the treatment of cocktails containing β-lactams and PRP. The cell-based study indicated that keratinocyte proliferation was stimulated by PRP. The in vitro scratch and transwell experiments revealed that PRP improved keratinocyte migration. In the MRSA-infected mouse skin model, PRP appeared to show a synergistic effect for wound area reduction by 39% when combined with β-lactams. The MRSA burden in the infected area was lessened two-fold after topical administration of the combined β-lactams and PRP. PRP inhibited macrophage infiltration in the wound site to shorten the inflammatory phase and accelerate the initiation of the proliferative phase. No skin irritation was detected with the topical delivery of this combination. Our findings suggested that β-lactams plus PRP was applicable to alleviate the problems associated with MRSA via dual antibacterial and regenerative activities.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To critically assess the effect and safety of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in chronic wounds and vitiligo. METHODS A systematic literature searching was performed. Results were expressed as weight mean difference (WMD) or risk ratio (RR) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Pooled estimates were performed using a fixed-effects model or random-effects model, depending on the heterogeneity among studies. RESULTS A total of 27 studies were included in this meta-analysis. In patients with chronic diabetic ulcers, PRP significantly increased proportion of complete wound healing, percentage of wound area healed, and shortened the complete wound healing. In venous ulcers, PRP improved the epithelialized area and percentage of wound area healed. In vitiligo, PRP had better results in degree of improvement and mean repigmentation than controls. Regarding the safety profile, PRP did not increase the risk of infection in patients with chronic diabetic ulcers. Meta-regression revealed that source of PRP and preparation method of PRP significantly affected the proportion of complete wound healing, whereas age, gender, country, duration of wound, and wound size had no impact on this outcome. CONCLUSION PRP is effective and safe, and can be used as a potential therapeutic adjunct or alternative treatment in chronic wounds of multiple etiologies and vitiligo.

Abstract
(1) Background: During IVF (in vitro fertilization), a proper endometrium thickness is one of the most difficult parameters to achieve and one of the most important prognostic factors of the success rate. One major problem is the high cancelation percentage in frozen embryo transfer cycles. The focus on the adjuvant methods for improving endometrium thickness is an on-going subject of interest. (2) Methods: This prospective single-arm self-control study was conducted in an IVF centre in Oradea, Romania. The patients were divided into two groups. The control group included 51 patients with at least one attempt to transfer a good-quality blastocyst, but the endometrial thickness did not surpass 7 mm under standard endometrial preparation protocol with oestradiol and with adjuvant therapy (other than PRP, such as aspirin, vitamin C, and vitamin E), and the study group included the same 51 patients that had the embryo transfer performed under the same standard endometrial preparation protocol with oestradiol preparation protocol and intrauterine PRP infusion. (3) Results: In our study, the PRP treatment had a positive impact on the parameters that were followed for the evaluation of the success rate of the embryo transfer procedure. The endometrial thickness (an increase in endometrial thickness by 0.6 mm after PRP treatment with p = 0.0001) and the clinical pregnancy rate (having a MD ± SD of 0 ± 0.38 before PRP treatment and with an increase to 0.5 ± 0.1 after the PRP treatment, p = 0.0004) were statistically significant (4) Conclusions: PRP has a positive effect in promoting endometrial proliferation, improving embryo implantation rate and clinical pregnancy rate for women with thin endometrium.

Abstract
Introduction Vitiligo is a multifactorial acquired disorder clinically characterized by amelanotic lesions on the skin, due to destruction of melanocytes. The course of vitiligo is unpredictable. Vitiligo causes significant psychological impact and cosmetic disfigurement. Treatment of vitiligo is challenging and requires a multidisciplinary approach. Materials and Methods A prospective comparative interventional study was carried out from October 2018 to March 2020. The study enrolled 60 stable vitiligo patients divided into groups A and B. Group A (30 patients) was treated with both fractional CO2 laser and autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection. Group B (30 patients) was treated with fractional CO2 laser alone. A total of four sessions were conducted in each group at 1-month interval along with photographic assessment. Final assessment was done 1 month after the completion of four sessions. Results In group A, the median values of repigmentation and visual-analog score (VAS) were 3 and 7, and in group B, the median values of repigmentation and VAS were 1 and 2, respectively. Lesions over the trunk showed the best response followed by face and extremities lesions. Acral lesions showed the least response. Conclusion A combination of fractional CO2 laser and PRP is superior to fractional CO2 laser alone in the treatment of stable vitiligo.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In recent years, minimally invasive and non-invasive rejuvenation methods have been welcomed. PRP has been used widely for skin rejuvenation, but there are few studies on PRP for lip rejuvenation. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to investigate the preliminary effects of PRP for lip rejuvenation. METHODS Between October 2018 and April 2023, 15 participants with lip aging (1 male, 14 females; range 27-58 years) were treated with PRP. The follow-up time was 3 to 24months. After 3 to 6 times treatments, beauty seekers and experienced physicians jointly evaluated effectiveness of treatment. The assessment included improvements in the colour, wrinkles, and skin texture of the lips before and after treatment. RESULTS According to the beauty seekers and Surgeons 'evaluation, the aging characteristics of the lips of the 15 beauty seekers have been improved to varying degrees. The most obvious improvement was that the color of the lips which became more vivid. There was no swelling, bruising, scar hyperplasia and other complications. A participant was evaluated using the VISIA skin detector. The patient's lip color and discoloration improved after treatment. Of the 15 participants treated. 3 participants experienced mild pain or discomfort during the injection process. There was no swelling, bruising, scar hyperplasia and other complications. CONCLUSION The results of this study revealed promising evidence of PRP as an effective option on lip rejuvenation. However, large, multi-center, controlled, long term, pilot studies are required to confirm the preliminary results of our study.

Abstract
Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is the most common cause of hair loss in men and women. Traditionally, topical minoxidil and oral finasteride have been the standard of care yielding mixed results. New treatments such as Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), microneedling, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and others have been extensively studied in the literature, and the purpose of this review is to provide a comprehensive discussion of the latest treatment methods and their efficacy in treating AGA. Novel therapies such as oral minoxidil, topical finasteride, topical spironolactone, botulinum toxin, and stem cell therapy offer interesting alternatives to standard of care therapies for patients. In this review, we present data from recent studies on the clinical efficacy of these treatments. Furthermore, as new treatments have emerged, clinicians have tested combination therapies to assess whether there may be a synergistic relationship between multiple modalities. While there has been a great increase in the treatments available for AGA, the quality of evidence varies greatly and there is still a great need for randomized double blinded clinical trials to adequately assess the clinical efficacy of some treatments. While PRP and LLLT have demonstrated encouraging results, standardized treatment protocols are needed to adequately inform clinicians on how to use such therapies. Given the abundance of new therapeutic options, clinicians and patients must weigh the benefits and risks of each treatment option for AGA.

Abstract
Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell (BMSC) transplantation is an effective treatment for ischemic heart disease, but its effectiveness is limited in aging populations due to decreased viability and injury resistance of autologous BMSCs. The purpose of this study was to compare the differences between platelet-rich plasma (PRP) derived from young and aged donors, and to investigate whether it is possible to enhance the viability of elderly human BMSCs (hBMSCs) using PRP, and to apply the rejuvenated hBMSCs for the treatment of ischemia. The key growth factors in PRP, including IGF-1, EGF, and PDGF-BB, were found to have significant differences between young and old individuals. Our results showed that PRP could enhance the proliferation, cloning, and rejuvenation of aged hBMSCs, with a superior effect observed when using PRP derived from younger donors. In the SD rat infarct model, the application of hBMSCs optimized with PRP resulted in a smaller infarct area compared to the control group (NC-Old). Specifically, the infarct area in the group treated with hBMSCs cultured with PRP from young donors (YPRP-Old) was smaller than that in the group treated with PRP from older donors (OPRP-Old). The survival rate of hBMSCs after transplantation, the number of neovascularization in the infarct area of SD rats and the recovery of cardiac function were all higher in the YPRP-Old group than the OPRP-Old group, and both groups were better than the group treated with aged hBMSCs alone. In conclusion, PRP may provide a new stem cell transplantation therapy option for ischemic diseases.

Abstract
The ability of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) gel to promote rapid wound healing without immunological rejection has opened new avenues for the treatment of diabetic foot wounds. However, PRP gel still suffers from the quick release of growth factors (GFs) and requires frequent administration, thus resulting in decreased wound healing efficiency, higher cost as well as greater pain and suffering for the patients. In this study, the flow-assisted dynamic physical cross-linked coaxial microfluidic three-dimensional (3D) bio-printing technology, combined with the calcium ion chemical dual cross-linking method was developed to design PRP-loaded bioactive multi-layer shell-core fibrous hydrogels. The prepared hydrogels exhibited outstanding water absorption-retention capacity, good biocompatibility as well as a broad-spectrum antibacterial effect. Compared with clinical PRP gel, these bioactive fibrous hydrogels displayed a sustained release of GFs, reducing the administration frequency by 33 % availably during the wound treatment, but more prominent therapeutic effects such as effective reduced inflammation, in addition to promoting the growth of granulation tissue and angiogenesis, the formation of high-density hair follicles, and the generation of regular ordered and high-density collagen fiber network, which suggested great promise as exceptional candidates for treatment of diabetic foot ulcer in clinical settings.

Abstract
Extracellular vesicles (EVs), including microvesicles (MVs) and exosomes, play a critical role in metabolic regulation and intracellular communication. Stem cell-derived EVs are considered to have the potential for regeneration, like stem cells, while simultaneously avoiding the risk of immune rejection or tumour formation. The therapeutic effect of stem cell-derived EVs has been proven in many diseases. However, the molecular mechanism of stem cell-derived EVs in retinal repair and regeneration has not been fully clarified. In this review, we described the biological characteristics of stem cell-derived EVs, summarized the current research on stem cell-derived EV treatment in retinal repair and regeneration, and discussed the potential and challenges of stem cell-derived EVs in translational medicine.

Abstract
Vitiligo is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by loss of pigment of the skin, affecting 0.5-2% of the population worldwide. It can have a significant impact on patients' quality of life. In recent years, there has been significant progress in our understanding of the pathogenesis of vitiligo. It is believed that vitiligo develops due to a complex combination of genetics, oxidative stress, inflammation, and environmental triggers. Conventional treatments include camouflage, topical corticosteroids, topical calcineurin inhibitors, oral corticosteroids, phototherapy, and surgical procedures, with the treatment regimen dependent on the patient's preferences and characteristics. With increased understanding of the importance of the Janus kinase (JAK)/signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) pathway in the pathogenesis of vitiligo, treatment has expanded to include the first US FDA-approved cream to repigment patients with vitiligo. This review summarizes our understanding of the major mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of vitiligo and its most common available treatments.

Abstract
Injectable hydrogels effectively remodel degenerative nucleus pulposus (NP) with a resemblance to the in vivo microenvironment. However, the pressure within the intervertebral disc requires load-bearing implants. The hydrogel must undergo a rapid phase transition upon injection to avoid leakage. In this study, an injectable sodium alginate hydrogel was reinforced with silk fibroin nanofibers with core-shell structures. The nanofiber-embedded hydrogel provided support to adjacent tissues and facilitated cell proliferation. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) was incorporated into the core-shell nanofibers for sustained release and enhanced NP regeneration. The composite hydrogel exhibited excellent compressive strength and enabled leak-proof delivery of PRP. In rat intervertebral disc degeneration models, radiography and MRI signal intensities were significantly reduced after 8 weeks of injections with the nanofiber-reinforced hydrogel. The biomimetic fiber gel-like structure was constructed in situ, providing mechanical support for NP repair, promoting the reconstruction of the tissue microenvironment, and finally realizing the regeneration of NP.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chronic wounds place a heavy burden on the healthcare system due to the prolonged, continuous need for human resources for wound management. Our aim was to investigate the therapeutic effects of platelet-rich plasma on the treatment of chronic wounds. METHODS The systematic literature search was performed in four databases. Randomized clinical trials reporting on patients with chronic wounds treated with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) were included, comparing PRP with conventional ulcer therapy. We pooled the data using the random effects model. Our primary outcome was the change in wound size. RESULTS Our systematic search provided 2688 articles, and we identified 48 eligible studies after the selection and citation search. Thirty-three study groups of 29 RCTs with a total of 2198 wounds showed that the odds for complete closure were significantly higher in the PRP group than in the control group (OR = 5.32; CI: 3.37; 8.40; I2 = 58%). CONCLUSIONS PRP is a safe and effective modality to enhance wound healing. By implementing it in clinical practice, platelet-rich plasma could become a widely used, valuable tool as it could not only improve patients' quality of life but also decrease the healthcare burden of wound management.

Abstract
In-situ three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting has been emerging as a promising technology designed to rapidly seal cutaneous defects according to their contour. Improvements in the formulations of multi-component bioink are needed to support cytocompatible encapsulation and biological functions. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), as a source of patient-specific autologous growth factors, exhibits capabilities in tissue repair and rejuvenation. This study aimed to prepare PRP-integrated alginate-gelatin (AG) composite hydrogel bioinks and evaluate the biological effects in vitro and in vivo. 3D bioprinted constructs embedded with dermal fibroblasts and epidermal stem cells were fabricated using extrusion strategy. The integration of PRP not only improved the cellular behavior of seeded cells, but regulate the tube formation of vascular endothelial cells and macrophage polarization in a paracrine manner, which obtained an optimal effect at an incorporation concentration of 5%. For in-situ bioprinting, PRP integration accelerated the high-quality wound closure, modulated the inflammation and initiated the angiogenesis compared with the AG bioink. In conclusion, we revealed the regenerative potential of PRP, readily available at the bedside, as an initial signaling provider in multi-component bioink development. Combined with in-situ printing technology, it is expected to accelerate the clinical translation of rapid individualized wound repair.

Efficacy of Autologous Intrauterine Infusion of Platelet-Rich Plasma in Patients with Unexplained Repeated Implantation Failures in Embryo Transfer: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. Abstract
(1) Background: Controversial conclusions have been made in previous studies regarding the influence of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in the reproductive outcomes of women with repeated implantation failures (RIF) who are undergoing embryo transfer (ET). (2) Methods: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of PRP intrauterine infusion in patients with unexplained RIF, who are undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic injection (ICSI), by a systematic review and meta-analysis. (3) Results: A fixed-effects model was used, and 795 cases and 834 controls were included in these studies. The pooling of the results showed the beneficial effect of PRP which were compared with those of the control in terms of the clinical pregnancy rates (n = 10, risk ratio (RR) = 1.79, 95% confidence intervals (CI): 1.55, 2.06; p < 0.01, I2 = 40%), live birth rates (n = 4, RR = 2.92, 95% CI: 2.22, 3.85; p < 0.01, I2 = 83%), implantation rates (n = 3, RR = 1.74, 95% CI: 1.34, 2.26; p < 0.01, I2 = 0%), and positive serum β-HCG 14 days after the ET (n = 8, RR = 1.77, 95% CI: 1.54, 2.03; p < 0.01, I2 = 36%). However, we did not find that the miscarriage rates indicated a significant difference between the two groups (n = 6, RR = 1.04, 95% CI: 0.72, 1.51; p = 0.83, I2 = 0%). (4) Conclusions: The findings of this systemic review and meta-analysis suggest that PRP appears to improve the results of IVF/ICSI treatments in the cases of unexplained RIF.

Abstract
RATIONALE Rectum ulcer is a disease of the digestive system, the main symptoms of which includes bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain, hematochezia, etc. At present, drug therapy and surgery are the most common treatments. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) contains high concentrations of platelets and has been used to promote wound healing. However, the utilization of PRP in rectal ulcers has rarely been reported. PATIENT CONCERNS The patient had reported a complaint of blood dripping from the stool for more than 4 months. She had a history of surgery for rectal cancer with postoperative chemotherapy and radiotherapy 19 years prior. Mesalazine suppository was given to her for about 4 months, and glutamine capsules for 2 months, but the rectal ulcer remained unhealed. DIAGNOSIS A rectal ulcer was observed on colonoscopy, and the biopsy result was tubular adenoma. INTERVENTIONS Autologous PRP treatment was performed for the patient under an anorectal scope together with basic supportive care. OUTCOMES The ulcer nearly healed within 9 days after twice PRP treatments. LESSONS PRP treatment may bring about novel treatment options for rectal ulcers.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Acne is a common chronic inflammatory disease, which can result in permanent scarring. Different types of treatments have been used in order to treat acne scars. However, esthetic results have proved variable. Furthermore, none of these treatments has had an impact on the underlying inflammatory process. OBJECTIVE The main purpose of this case-report is to suggest a new potential therapy for acne scar management combining esthetic filling with an anti-inflammatory and a regenerative action. METHODS A Platelet rich plasma (PRP) and Nanofat mixture was injected into the pathological dermis in order to treat and fill severe acne scars. RESULTS After a one- year follow-up, skin elasticity had improved, scar reduction and a reversal of the inflammation process had been observed. CONCLUSIONS PRP and Nanofat could represent a new and promising therapeutic approach in the treatment of the inflammatory scarring process in severe acne.

Abstract
Purpose This work is aimed at determining the application value of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy plus total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in traumatic arthritis (TA) of the knee. Methods A retrospective study was conducted on 78 cases of TA of the knee admitted between March 2021 and January 2022 to the Quanzhou First Hospital Affiliated to Fujian Medical University. Based on different treatment methods, 38 cases treated with TKA were assigned to the control group, and 40 cases intervened by PRP+TKA were included in the observation group. The operation time (OT), drainage volume (DV), total blood loss (TBL), incision inflammatory reaction rate, and grade A healing rate were recorded. Besides, preoperative and postoperative knee joint Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) scores, knee joint pain assessed by visual analogue scale (VAS), knee joint range of motion (ROM), and bone metabolism parameters (osteocalcin (OST), total N-terminal propeptide of type I procollagen (tPINP), and β-isomerized C-terminal telopeptides (β-CTX)) were recorded. Results The observation group showed reduced postoperative DV and TBL than the control group (P < 0.05). The two cohorts differed insignificantly in OT, incision inflammatory response rate, and grade A healing rate (P > 0.05). The observation group also had better improvement in the HSS score, pain VAS score, and knee ROM (P < 0.05). And higher postoperative OST and tPINP levels while lower β-CTX were determined in the observation group (P < 0.05). Conclusions PRP+TKA can validly improve the levels of bone metabolism markers in patients with TA of the knee and promote their knee functional recovery, with favorable safety.

Abstract
Platelet concentrates (PCs) are easily obtained from autogenous whole blood after centrifugation and have evolved through three generations of development to include platelet-rich plasma, platelet-rich fibrin, and concentrated growth factor. Currently, PCs are widely used for sinus floor elevation, alveolar ridge preservation, periodontal bone defects, guided bone regeneration, and treatment of gingival recession. More recently, PCs have been leveraged for tissue regeneration to promote oral soft and hard tissue regeneration in implant dentistry and regenerative periodontology. PCs are ideal for this purpose because they have a high concentration of platelets, growth factors, and cytokines. Platelets have been shown to release extracellular vesicles (P-EVs), which are thought to be essential for PC-induced tissue regeneration. This study reviewed the clinical application of PCs and P-EVs for implant surgery and periodontal tissue regeneration.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Vitiligo is an autoimmune disorder characterised by loss of epidermal melanocytes. It has cosmetic and psychosocial impact. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the interest of platelet-rich-plasma (PRP) in the treatment of vitiligo. MATERIAL AND METHODS We conducted a prospective study between January 2019 to September 2021. RESULTS Our descriptive study included 10 patients followed-up for vitiligo refractory to conventional therapies. The mean age was 36,2 years. Sex ratio was 0,25. Prior to PRP treatment, vitiligo was stable in all cases. The mean number of PRP sessions received by our patients was 2,6 (1-6). A visible improvement of lesions was obtained after a mean of 1,5 sessions. 40% of patients had obtained repigmentation of more than 50% for at least one lesion. An improvement of more than 75% (grade 4) was noted in 2 cases after a mean duration of 5,5 sessions. 40% of patients had obtained repigmentation of more than 50% for at least one lesion. A percentage of improvement between 50 and 74% (grade 3) was obtained for 2 patients. Four patients had an improvement of less than 25% (grade 1) after a mean of 1,75 sessions. There was no recurrence of depigmentation after a mean follow-up of 6 months (1 to 24 months). CONCLUSION Our series proves the benefit of PRP in the treatment of vitiligo. It is a safe and promising option for stable lesions in different body sites with few side effects.

Abstract
Venous leg ulcers (VLUs) are chronic and recalcitrant lower limb wounds that affect millions of patients annually, severely reducing their quality of life, and causing a significant burden on the health care system. Recently, Platelet rich plasma (PRP) has been used to improve healing of VLUs. This systematic review aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of PRP versus the standard of care commonly used to treat VLUs. Ten prospective studies (8 randomized) met the inclusion criteria comprising 451 patients with 527 VLUs. Results were as follows: a) the weighted Odds Ratio (OR) of the mean healing rate was 2.84 (95% CI = 1.160 to 5.056, I2 = 41.4%, p = 0.0004), b) the mean healed ulcer areas were 79.2 ± 19% for the PRP group and 51.7 ± 36% for the control group (p = 0.007) in favor of the PRP group, and c) the weighted infection OR showed no significant difference between both groups. Additionally, negative correlations were found between healing rate and duration of VLUs and initial size of the ulcers. This meta-analysis demonstrated significant beneficial effects of PRP versus standard of care on healing rate, reduction in surface, and reduction in healing time of VLUs. Infection and other complications were similar to standard of care. Therefore, our analytical data would support the use of PRP as a safe and effective treatment for VLUs.

Abstract
Few studies have checked the impact of the hormonal/immunological dimorphism of patients on the cellular composition of platelet-rich plasma products (PRP). Whole blood (WB) from 26 volunteers was concentrated using a device previously characterized. Platelet and white blood cell (WBC) counts in WB and PRP were compared between genders, and after the population was split into pre (≤50 years)- and post (>50 years)-menopausal ages. In WB, platelet−total WBC densities were comparable in men and women. The phagocytic cell composition differed (p ≤ 0.04). After dividing by ages, phagocytic cell discrepancies were linked to women > 50 years (p ≤ 0.05), and differences emerged in lymphocyte counts (lower in >50 years groups, within and between genders, p ≤ 0.05). In PRP, densities were significantly higher, but the PRP/WB ratios varied according to blood cell (lower for phagocytic cells) and between subjects (more favorable at a lower density of a particular blood cell in WB). This “system compensatory efficiency” reduced/reverted PRP differences in the leukocyte composition between genders/age−sex groups in WB. In PRP, neutrophils were higher in younger men than older women (p < 0.05). WB lymphocyte differences between age−sex groups persisted. Age is a more determining factor than sex in the preparation of PRP. Post-menopause, sexual dimorphism strongly influences the composition of leukocytes, also conditioned by the capture efficiency of the system.

Abstract
Polysaccharide hydrogels have been widely utilized in tissue engineering. They interact with the organismal environments, modulating the cargos release and realizing of long-term survival and activations of living cells. In this review, the potential strategies for modification of polysaccharides were introduced firstly. It is not only used to functionalize the polysaccharides for the consequent formation of hydrogels, but also used to introduce versatile side groups for the regulation of cell behavior. Then, techniques and underlying mechanisms in inducing the formation of hydrogels by polysaccharides or their derivatives are briefly summarized. Finally, the applications of polysaccharide hydrogels in vivo, mainly focus on the performance for alleviation of foreign-body response (FBR) and as cell scaffolds for tissue regeneration, are exemplified. In addition, the perspectives and challenges for further research are addressed. It aims to provide a comprehensive framework about the potentials and challenges that the polysaccharide hydrogels confronting in tissue engineering.

Abstract
Background Microneedling is a promising method for the treatment of acne scars, while the effect of microneedling combined with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) remains unknown. We performed a meta-analysis of controlled studies to compare the efficacy and safety of microneedling treatment with and without additional PRP in patients with acne scars. Methods Randomized and non-randomized controlled studies were identified by search of Medline, Embase, and Cochrane's Library databases. Results were pooled with a random-effects model, incorporating the possible heterogeneity. Results Four randomized and 10 split-face non-randomized controlled studies with 472 patients were included. Compared to microneedling therapy without PRP, combined treatment with microneedling and PRP was associated with increased odds of clinical improvement of >50% in Goodman's qualitative scale [GQS: odds ratio (OR): 2.97, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.96–4.51, p < 0.001; I2 = 0%], and a significantly improved mean GQS score (mean difference: −0.32, 95% CI: −0.44 to −0.20, p < 0.001; I2 = 0%). Combined treatment was associated with a higher patient satisfying rate (OR: 4.15, 95% CI: 2.13 to 8.09, p < 0.001; I2 = 53%), while the incidence of severe adverse events such as severe erythema (OR: 1.59, 95% CI:.73 to 3.46, P = 0.24; I2 = 0%) and severe edema (OR: 1.14, 95% CI: 0.47 to 2.76, P = 0.77; I2 = 0%) were not significantly different. Conclusions Combined treatment with microneedling with PRP is more effective than microneedling without PRP for patients with acne scars.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Some studies have shown that platelet-rich plasma (PRP) improves androgenetic alopecia (AGA)-while others do not. We determined whether the placebo effect significantly varies between split-scalp and whole-head trials on PRP monotherapy for AGA. Our rationale was based on the plausibility of PRP diffusing to the control (i.e., 'placebo') side of split-scalp trials. This is not possible in whole head studies. METHODS We systematically searched the literature for available data. Our choice of analyses and outcomes were determined by the available data. RESULTS Our endpoint was change in total hair density six months after baseline. Our regression showed that total hair density after six months was significantly (p<0.05) higher in the placebo arm of split-scalp trials, compared to whole-head studies, by 37 hairs/cm2 . Our one-arm meta-analyses showed that the pooled change in total hair density between the PRP side and placebo side in split scalp studies was -3 hairs/cm2 (p=0.37), that is, a slight decrease in hair density in the placebo side of the scalp. For whole head stdies the corresponding difference in total hair density between patients receiving PRP and those on placebo was -30 hairs/cm2 (p=0.000017), that is, a much larger decrease in hair density. Patients in the placebo group in whole-head trials lost significantly more hair than in the placebo side of the split-head trials where hair loss was comparatively reduced-presumably because of PRP diffusing from the treatment side of the scalp. CONCLUSIONS The association between design (i.e., split-scalp vs. whole-head) and outcome, in placebo arms of AGA trials on PRP monotherapy, had never been reported. This 'design effect' could partly reconcile the incongruent conclusions across the PRP literature for AGA; furthermore, clinical guidelines can consider 'design effect' when selecting evidence to base care practices on.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Migration of keratinocyte plays an essential role in wound healing. The proprietary platelet-rich plasma from human blood, named as Self-Growth Colony (SGC), functions in stimulating migration of wounded keratinocytes. And the growth factors, including VEGF, being enriched in SGC could account for this function. Scutellarin, an active phytochemical from root of Scutellaria barbata D. Don, has been proposed to have various pharmacological functions; however, the activity in epidermal skin cells is yet to be explored. Here, the role of scutellarin in potentiating the functionality of SGC to promote the regeneration of wounded keratinocyte was probed. METHODS Molecular docking and ultrafiltration-based LC-MS were performed to verify the binding between scutellarin and VEGF, which potentiated the VEGF-mediated functions. Scratch assay, performed on cultured keratinocytes, was to analyse the treatments of SGC and scutellarin in the process of wound healing. Western blot analysis was to confirm the involvement of signalling cascades in observed effects. RESULTS We have identified the binding of scutellarin with VEGF. The binding accounted for the potentiation role of scutellarin in skin regeneration, as triggered by SGC. The co-treatment of scutellarin and SGC onto scratched keratinocyte cultures was able to enhance the process of wound healing, i.e. scutellarin showed a potentiating effect to SGC. In addition, the potentiation of scutellarin was shown to be mediated by phosphorylation of VEGF receptor 2 (VEGFR2) and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signalling. CONCLUSION These findings support the application of scutellarin as an enhancing agent in potentiating the SGC-mediated wound healing.
