Abstract
Objectives Evidence on the relationship between self-rated health status and incident type 2 diabetes (T2DM) in China is scarce. This study aims to examine the prospective association of self-rated health status with the subsequent risk of T2DM among middle-aged and older Chinese subjects. Methods Data were obtained from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study of 9844 Chinese individuals aged 45 years or older. Cox proportional hazards models were used to yield hazard ratios (HRs) relating self-rated health status to the 7-year incidence of T2DM, adjusting for conventional risk factors. Results Compared to those with very good or good self-rated health, individuals with poor health had a significantly higher risk of developing T2DM in the multivariable-adjusted model [HR = 1.36 (1.07, 1.73)]. Subgroup analysis by sex showed stronger associations in women [HR = 1.53 (1.11, 2.12)]. Interaction analyses indicated that factors such as age, sex, obesity, smoking status, drinking status, history of hypertension and history of dyslipidemia did not modify the association (all P-interaction >0.05). Conclusion Poor self-rated health status is associated with a higher risk of developing T2DM in middle-aged and older Chinese people.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the combined effect of abdominal obesity and depressive symptoms on the risk to type 2 diabetes, while also assessing the potential influence of various glycemic states and gender on this combined relationship. METHODS Data is acquired from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, and 5949 participants were included for analysis. Participants were divided into four groups: neither have abdominal obesity nor depressive symptoms (AO-/DS-), only have depressive symptoms (AO-/DS+), only have abdominal obesity (AO+/DS-), and have both abdominal obesity and depressive symptoms (AO+/DS+). Stratified analyses differentiating the glycemic statuses and sex of the participants were also carried out. RESULTS After adjusting for the confounders, the AO-/DS+, AO+/DS- and AO+/DS+ phenotypes were all discovered to be risk factors for type 2 diabetes (OR = 1.38, 95%CI: 1.06-1.79; OR = 2.07, 95%CI: 1.63-2.63; OR = 2.38, 95%CI: 1.83-3.11, respectively) compared with the AO-/DS- phenotype in the overall population. In further stratified analyses, we arrived at the same conclusion for normoglycemic individuals, especially in females. For prediabetes and males, the AO+/DS- and AO+/DS+ phenotypes are risk factors for type 2 diabetes compared with the AO-/DS- phenotype, but not with AO-/DS+. CONCLUSION Regardless of glycemic status and sex, the coexistence of abdominal obesity and depressive symptoms were associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes. Depressive symptoms were independent risk factors for type 2 diabetes only in normoglycemic individuals and females.

Abstract
The Annual Report on Cardiovascular Health and Diseases in China (2022) intricate landscape of cardiovascular health in China. This is the first section of the report, which dissects influential factors across diverse domains. The investigation identifies tobacco use as a paramount concern, portraying China as the global epicenter of tobacco consumption. Cigarette smoking, exacerbated by second-hand smoke exposure, emerges as a critical and preventable risk factor, contributing to a surge in attributable deaths over the past three decades. In the realm of dietary nutrition, the study discerns an overall improvement, yet discerns worrisome deviations, notably an escalating fat intake surpassing recommended guidelines. The shifting dietary structure reveals diminished consumption of cereals and vegetables juxtaposed with an uptick in animal foods, while excessive intake of cooking oil and salt persists, straying substantially from endorsed levels. The exploration of physical activity patterns unfolds a nuanced narrative. Varied trends are observed among students, with concerns arising from sedentary behaviors and inadequate adherence to recommended guidelines. The analysis spans a trajectory of declining physical activity in Chinese adults, coupled with an alarming surge in sedentary leisure time, ultimately linking these factors to heightened risks of cardiovascular diseases and increased adiposity. An examination of overweight and obesity trends uncovers a relentless upward trajectory, projecting substantial prevalence by 2030. Noteworthy prevalence rates underscore the imperative for targeted interventions to curtail this burgeoning health crisis, with the anticipated prevalence extending to nearly two-thirds of the adult population. Psychological factors, notably depression, constitute an integral facet of cardiovascular health. Prevalence rates among patients with coronary artery disease and acute myocardial infarction underscore the intricate interplay between mental health and cardiovascular outcomes. Additionally, persistent depressive symptoms are shown to significantly elevate the risk of cardiovascular diseases and mortality. This first section underscores the multifaceted challenges facing cardiovascular health in China, emphasizing the imperative for tailored interventions across tobacco control, dietary habits, physical activity, obesity management, and psychological well-being to mitigate the escalating burden of cardiovascular diseases in the population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cognitive frailty and abdominal obesity are deemed to be important targets for disease prevention. However, a possible cardiometabolic multimorbidity (CMM) link with cognitive frailty and abdominal obesity is unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of cognitive frailty and abdominal obesity with CMM in the middle-aged and older people. METHODS The sample comprised 11,503 participants aged 45 and over from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) 2011. Cognitive frailty was defined as the coexisting cognitive impairment and physical frailty. Abdominal obesity was assessed using waist circumference. CMM was defined as the presence of two or more cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs), including diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. A total of 9177 participants without CMM recruited from CHARLS 2011 and were followed up in 2018. RESULTS Compared with 0 CMD, coexisting cognitive frailty and abdominal obesity was associated with the risk of 1 CMD (OR: 1.734, 95 % CI: 1.133-2.655), and ≥ 2 CMDs (OR: 7.218, 95%CI: 3.216-16.198). Longitudinal analysis showed that individuals with both cognitive frailty and abdominal obesity (HR: 2.162, 95%CI: 1.032-4.531) were more likely to have new onset CMM than cognitive frailty alone peers (HR: 1.667, 95 % CI: 0.721-3.853). Among the participants with first CMD, the likelihood of CMM was substantially higher in the co-existence of cognitive frailty and abdominal obesity (HR: 3.073, 95%CI: 1.254-7.527) than in the abdominal obesity alone (HR: 1.708, 95%CI: 1.201-2.427). Cognitive frailty alone was not significantly associated with CMM. CONCLUSION Cognitive frailty is not independently associated with the risk of CMM, but cognitive frailty and abdominal obesity together has a greater risk of CMM.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cardiovascular disease remains the leading worldwide cause of mortality. There has been increased awareness of the impact of psychological health on cardiovascular disease. In particular, major depression has been linked to increased all-cause mortality, development of cardiovascular disease, and worse outcomes in those with existing cardiovascular disease. METHODS We conducted a meta-analysis assessing the incidence of cardiovascular disease and cardiovascular disease outcomes among those with major depressive disorder. RESULTS Among 26 studies of 1,957,621 individuals, depression was associated with increased risk of incident stroke (hazard ratio [HR] 1.13; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.00-1.28), myocardial infarction (HR 1.28; 95% CI, 1.14-1.45), congestive heart failure (HR 1.04; 95% CI, 1.00-1.09), or any cardiovascular disease (HR 1.16; 95% CI, 1.04-1.30). Depression was associated with increased risk of all-cause mortality (HR 1.43; 95% CI, 1.27-1.60), cardiovascular disease mortality (HR 1.44; 95% CI, 1.27-1.63), and congestive heart failure mortality (HR 3.20; 95% CI, 1.29-7.94). CONCLUSION Depression has a significant negative impact on development of cardiovascular disease and on cardiovascular disease outcomes. Further efforts to understand and mitigate these impacts are prudent.

Abstract
Depressive symptoms are associated with increased risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD), and inflammation may contribute to this relationship. Pericardial fat, a highly metabolically active fat depot, is implicated in the pathogenesis of CVD, but its association with depressive symptoms is unclear. This study examined the cross-sectional and longitudinal association between depressive symptoms and pericardial fat over a three-year period. Participants were 543 healthy men and women (mean age = 62.9 years) without history or objective signs of coronary heart disease from the Whitehall II cohort. In men, depressive symptoms were positively associated with pericardial fat at baseline after adjustment for sociodemographics, waist to hip ratio and conventional cardiovascular risk factors. Inflammation, indexed by plasma interleukin 6 concentration, accounted for 17% of this association. Longitudinally, depressive symptoms did not predict pericardial fat three years later in men once baseline levels of pericardial fat were accounted for. No significant associations between depressive symptoms and pericardial fat were found in women. Overall, our findings suggest that greater pericardial fat might be a mechanism by which depressive symptoms are associated with increased risk for CVD in men, and inflammation may also lie on this pathway.

Abstract
A total of 215 patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) were analyzed with SPSS. Samples of different genders showed significance in the obtuse marginal branch of the left circumflex branch × 1, the diagonal branch D1 × 1, and the ms PV representation. Patients with left circumflex branch occlusion are more male and tend to be younger. Age displayed a positive correlation with left intima-media thickness (IMT) and right IMT. This indicated that as age increases, the values of left IMT and right IMT increase. Samples of different CHD types showed significance in the obtuse marginal branch of the left circumflex branch × 1, the middle part of RCA × 1, and the middle part of the left anterior descending branch × 1.5. For non-ST-segment elevation angina pectoris with acute total vascular occlusion, the left circumflex artery is the most common, followed by the right coronary artery and anterior descending branch. Ultrasound of carotid IMT in patients with CHD can predict changes in left ventricular function, but no specific correlation between left and right common carotid IMT was found. Samples with or without the medical history of ASCVD showed significance in the branch number of coronary vessel lesions. The value of the branch number of coronary vessel lesions in patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) was higher than in those without ASCVD. The occurrence of complication is significantly relative with the distance of left circumflex branch × 1, the middle segment of left anterior descending branch × 1.5, and the distance of left anterior descending branch × 1. For patients without complications, the values in the distal left circumflex branch × 1, the middle left anterior descending branch × 1.5, and the distal left anterior descending branch × 1 were higher than those for patients with complications. The VTE scores showed a positive correlation with the proximal part of RCA × 1, the branch number of coronary vessel lesions, the posterior descending branch of left circumflex branch × 1, the distal part of left circumflex branch × 1, and the middle part of left anterior descending branch × 1.5.
