Abstract
Electroacupuncture at Neiguan point (PC6) effectively ameliorates tachycardia. However, very little is known about the neural pathway mechanism underlying the effect of electroacupuncture at PC6 in stress-induced tachycardia. Here, we investigate whether there exists a dorsomedial hypothalamus (DMH)-raphe pallidus (RP)-heart pathway to mediate the effect of electroacupuncture at PC6. The virus tracing results show that the heart is innervated by the neurons in DMH and RP, and the neurons of DMH project to RP. Chemogenetic inhibition of RP projecting DMH neurons reverses the cardiac autonomic imbalance and tachycardia induced by stress. Of note, immunofluorescence results show that the neural activity of DMH and RP is inhibited by electroacupuncture at PC6 accompanied with improved cardiac autonomic imbalance and tachycardia under stress. Moreover, chemogenetic inhibition of RP projecting DMH neurons cannot affect autonomic nervous activity and heart rate of stress rats after administrating electroacupuncture at PC6.NEW & NOTEWORTHY Our study suggests that this dorsomedial hypothalamus (DMH)-raphe pallidus (RP)-cardiac sympathetic pathway involves in the improvement of cardiac dysfunction associated with stress by administrating electroacupuncture at PC6, thus providing beneficial information for the development of therapeutic strategies to prevent stress-induced cardiovascular diseases, and insight into neural pathway basis for electroacupuncture at PC6 intervention of cardiac dysfunction.

Abstract
Carfilzomib (CFZ), a proteasome inhibitor commonly used in the treatment of multiple myeloma (MM), exhibits limited clinical application due to its cardiotoxicity. In our study, electroacupuncture (EA) at Neiguan acupoint (PC6) effectively reversed CFZ-induced reduction in ejection fraction (EF) and fractional shortening (FS), demonstrating great potential effect for heart protection. Through comparative analysis of the transcriptome profile from heart samples of mice treated with DMSO control, CFZ injection, and EA stimulation, we identified a total of 770 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in CFZ (vs. Control) group and 329 DEGs in EA (vs. CFZ) group. Specifically, CFZ (vs. Control) group exhibited 65 up-regulated DEGs and 705 down-regulated DEGs, while EA (vs. CFZ) group displayed 251 up-regulated DEGs and 78 down-regulated DEGs. Metascape analysis revealed that among these treatment groups, there were 137 co-expressed DEGs remarkably enriched in skeletal system development, cellular response to growth factor stimulus, negative regulation of Wnt signaling pathway, and muscle contraction. The expression patterns of miR-8114, Myl4, Col1a1, Tmem163, Myl7, Sln, and Fxyd3, which belong to the top 30 DEGs, were verified by quantitative real-time PCR (RT-qPCR). In summary, this study firstly discloses novel insights into the regulatory mechanisms underlying PC6-based EA therapy against CFZ-induced cardiotoxicity, potentially serving as a theoretical foundation for further clinical applications.

Abstract
Background Clinical studies have shown that electroacupuncture (EA) has therapeutic and modulatory effects on managing heart failure (HF) risk factors. Objective This study aimed to determine the impact of combination drugs and EA on chronic HF patients with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) to maintain a stable heart rate (HR) and mean arterial pressure (MAP). Materials and Methods This single-blind clinical randomized controlled trial included 42 patients with chronic HFrEF. The patients were divided into 3 groups: patients taking drugs and EA, patients taking drugs and sham EA (sham acupuncture [SA]), and patients taking drugs without EA. All patients underwent 16 sessions of therapy for 8 weeks. Results There was a significant difference in the average MAP based on therapy duration in the drugs + EA group, whereas there was no significant difference between drugs + SA and drugs without EA groups. There was a substantial difference between the average MAP in the drugs + EA group at the beginning of therapy compared with that at midtherapy (P < 0.05) and at the beginning of treatment and at the end of therapy (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the mean HR between the groups. Clinically, after 16 treatment sessions, patients receiving combined drugs and EA treatment presented with stable MAP and HR. Conclusions Drugs combined with EA maintained the stability of MAP and HR in patients with chronic HFrEF.

Abstract
Stress can trigger cardiovascular disease. Both imbalance of autonomic nervous activity and increase of neurohormonal output are core aspects of stress responses and can lead to cardiovascular disease. PC6 as a very important acupoint is used to prevent and treat cardiovascular disease and to improve stress-related activities. We examined the influence of electroacupuncture (EA) at PC6 on stress-induced imbalance of autonomic nervous activity and increase of neurohormonal output. EA at PC6 relieved increased cardiac sympathetic nervous activity and decreased cardiac vagal nervous activity induced by immobilization stress. Also, EA at PC6 reduced immobilization stress-induced increases of plasma norepinephrine (NE) and adrenaline (E) released from sympatho-adrenal-medullary axis. Finally, EA at PC6 reduced immobilization stress-induced increases of corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) in paraventricular hypothalamic nucleus and plasma cortisol (CORT) released from hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. However, EA at tail had no significant effect on the stress-induced autonomic and neuroendocrine responses. The results demonstrate the role of EA at PC6 regulating the autonomic and neuroendocrine responses induced by stress and provide insight into the prevention and treatment of EA at PC6 for stress-induced cardiovascular disease by targeting autonomic and neuroendocrine systems.

Abstract
Available, effectively converting low-frequency vibration into available electricity, triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) is always research hot nowadays. However, the enhancing effect of the existing methods for the output have all sorts of drawbacks, i.e., low efficiency and unstable, and its practical applications still need to be further explored. Here, leveraging core-shell nanoparticles Ag@SiO2 doping into tribo-materials generates the surface plasmon effect to boost the output performance of the TENG. On one hand, the shell alleviated the seepage effect from conventional nanoparticles; on the other hand, the surface plasmon effect enabled the core-shell nanoparticles to further boost the output performance of TENG. We circumvent the limitations and present a TENG whose output power density can be up to 4.375 mW/cm2. Points is that this article novelty investigate the high-performance TENG applicating for traditional Chinese medicine and develop a pratical self-powered acupuncture system. This technology enables rapid, routine regulation of human health at any age, which has potential applications in nearly any setting across healthcare platforms alike.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Traditional, complementary and alternative medicine (TCAM) is used to treat a broad range of conditions. In low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), TCAM use is particularly common among those with low socio-economic status. To better understand the patterns and impact of TCAM use on the management of non-communicable diseases in these populations, this study examines the prevalence and characteristics of TCAM use for hypertension, its determinants, and its association with hypertension management outcomes and wellbeing among low-income adults in two Southeast Asian countries at different levels of economic and health system development, Malaysia and the Philippines. METHODS We analysed cross-sectional data from 946 randomly selected adults diagnosed with hypertension from low-income rural and urban communities in Malaysia (n = 495) and the Philippines (n = 451). We compared the prevalence, characteristics and household expenditure on TCAM use between countries and used multi-level, mixed-effects regression to estimate associations between TCAM use and its determinants, and five hypertension management outcomes and wellbeing. RESULTS The prevalence of TCAM use to manage hypertension was higher in the Philippines than in Malaysia (18.8% vs 8.8%, p < 0.001). Biologically-based modalities, e.g. herbal remedies, were the most common type of TCAM used in both countries, mainly as a complement, rather than an alternative to conventional treatment. Households allocated around 10% of health spending to TCAM in both countries. Belief that TCAM is effective for hypertension was a positive predictor of TCAM use, while belief in conventional medicine was a negative predictor. TCAM use was not strongly associated with current use of medications for hypertension, self-reported medication adherence, blood pressure level and control, or wellbeing in either country. CONCLUSIONS A small, but significant, proportion of individuals living in low-income communities in Malaysia and the Philippines use TCAM to manage their hypertension, despite a general lack of evidence on efficacy and safety of commonly used TCAM modalities. Recognising that their patients may be using TCAM to manage hypertension will enable health care providers to deliver safer, more patient-centred care.

Abstract
Background Doxorubicin (DOX) is a commonly used chemotherapeutic drug but is limited in clinical applications by its cardiotoxicity. Neiguan acupoint (PC6) is a well-recognized acupoint for the treatment of cardiothoracic disease. However, whether acupuncture at PC6 could be effective in preventing DOX-induced cardiotoxicity is still unknown. Methods A set of experiments were performed with myocardial cells, wild type, inducible nitric oxide synthase knockout (iNOS-/-), and myocardial-specific ablation arginase 2 (Myh6-ARG 2-/-) mice. We investigated the protective effect and the underlying mechanisms for electroacupuncture (EA) against DOX-induced cardiotoxicity by echocardiography, immunostaining, biochemical analysis, and molecular biotechnology in vivo and in vitro analysis. Results We found that DOX-mediated nitric oxide (NO) production was positively correlated with the iNOS level but has a negative correlation with the arginase 2 (ARG 2) level in both myocardial cells and tissues. Meanwhile, EA at PC6 alleviated cardiac dysfunction and cardiac hypertrophy in DOX-treated mice. EA at PC6 blocked the upregulation of NO production in accompanied with the downregulated iNOS and upregulated ARG 2 levels in myocardial tissue induced by DOX. Furthermore, knockout iNOS prevented cardiotoxicity and EA treatment did not cause the further improvement of cardiac function in iNOS-/- mice treated by DOX. In contrast, deficiency of myocardial ARG 2 aggravated DOX-induced cardiotoxicity and reduced EA protective effect. Conclusion These results suggest that EA treatment at PC6 can prevent DOX-induced cardiotoxicity through modulating NO production by modulating the iNOS/ARG 2 balance in myocardial cells.

Abstract
Acupuncture is a key component of Chinese medicine. It describes a series of procedures involving the stimulation of skin through penetration of fine, single-use, sterile needles that result in the release of neurotransmitters. Although its use is on the growing trend, considerable controversy surrounds its value as a therapy. Standard randomized controlled trials that adhere to the accepted criteria should be conducted in the future to ensure the effectiveness of acupuncture. This article summarizes the current evidence regarding the use of acupuncture. It includes a description of the history, mode of operation, treatment of a variety of chronic disorders related to inflammation, and future directions for acupuncture use. Published clinical trials support the view that acupuncture is a possible candidate for the treatment of several chronic inflammation-related disorders.

Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) pose a serious threat to human health, which are characterized by high disability and mortality rate globally such as myocardial infarction (MI), atherosclerosis, and heart failure. Although stem cells transplantation and growth factors therapy are promising, their low survival rate and loss at the site of injury are major obstacles to this therapy. Recently, the development of hydrogel scaffold materials provides a new way to solve this problem, which have shown the potential to treat CVD. Among these scaffold materials, environmentally responsive hydrogels have great prospects in repairing the microenvironment of cardiovascular tissues and vascular regeneration. They provide a new method for the treatment of cardiovascular tissue repair and space-time control for the release of various therapeutic drugs, including small-molecule drugs, growth factors, and stem cells. Herein, this article reviews the occurrence and current treatment of CVD, as well as the repair of cardiovascular injury by several environmental responsive hydrogels systems currently used, mainly focusing on the delivery of growth factors or the application of cell therapy to revascularization. In addition, we will also discuss the enormous potential and personal perspectives of environmentally responsive hydrogels in cardiovascular repair.
