Self-assembly of polyoxometalate–thionine multilayer films on magnetic microspheres as photocatalyst for methyl orange degradation under visible light irradiation

Novel morphological mono-metallic substituted polyoxometalate immobilized 3-(aminopropyl)-imidazole photocatalysts for visible-light driven degradation: Anti-bacterial activity, membrane bacterial activity applications

A novel keggin-type tetra-metalates substituted polyoxometalate was functionalized by 3-(aminopropyl)-imidazole (3-API) supporting a ligand substitution method. In this paper, polyoxometalate (POMs) (NH₄)₃ [PMo₁₂O₄₀] and transition metal substituted of (NH₄)₃ [{PM^IVMo₁₁O₄₀}.(H₂O)] (M = Mn, V) are used as one of the adsorbents. The 3-API/POMs hybrid have been synthesized and used as adsorbent for the photo-catalysis of azo-dye molecule degradation after visible-light illumination as a simulated organic contaminant in water. The transition metal (M = M^IV, V^IV) substituted keggin-type anions (MPOMs) were synthesized, which reveals the degradation of methyl orange (MO) of about 94.0 % and 88.6 %. Immobilizing high redox ability POMs as an efficient acceptor of photo generated electron, on metal 3-API. In the presence of visible light irradiation result reveals that 3-API/POMs (89.9 %) have incredibly achieved after certain irradiation time and at specific conditions (3)-API/POMs; photo-catalysts dose = 5mg/100 ml, pH = 3 and MO dye concentration = 5 ppm). As the surface of POM catalyst has strong absorption of azo-dye MO molecule engaged as a molecular exploration through photo catalytic reactant. From the SEM images it is clear that the synthesized POMs based materials and POMs conjugated MO have varieties of morphological changes observed such as flakes, rods and spherical like structures. Anti-bacterial study reveals that the process of targeted microorganism occur higher activity against pathogenic bacterium for 180 min of visible-light irradiation is measured in terms of zone of the inhibition. Furthermore, the photo catalytic degradation mechanism of MO using POM, metaled POMs and 3-API/POMs also has been discussed.

Kinetic study of dye removal using TiO2 supported on polyethylene terephthalate by advanced oxidation processes through neural networks

This work investigated the efficiency of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) as support material for TiO₂ films in the photocatalytic degradation of red Bordeaux and yellow tartrazine dyes. The optimum operating conditions were determined by a factorial design, which resulted after 180 min of treatment in degradations of 99.5% and 99.1% for the UVC/H₂O₂/TiO_2Sup and solar/H₂O₂/TiO_2Sup systems, respectively. For the kinetic study, the experimental data fitted to the pseudo-first-order model and the calculated kinetic constants (k) values were 0.03 min^-1 for the UVC/H₂O₂/TiO_2Sup system and 0.0213 min^-1 for the system solar/H₂O₂/TiO_2Sup. It was verified that TiO₂ supported in the PET remained with high degradation efficiency even after five cycles of reuse, indicating a good stability of the photocatalyst in the support. A significant reduction of TOC content was also observed along the reaction time. The phytotoxicity bioassay with Lactuca sativa demonstrated that after treatment with UVC/H₂O₂/TiO_2Sup and solar/H₂O₂/TiO_2SUP, an increase in IC50 and consequently lower toxicity was observed.

Controlling the dispersion of supported polyoxometalate heterogeneous catalysts: impact of hybridization and the role of hydrophilicity-hydrophobicity balance and supramolecularity

The hybridization of polyoxometalates (POMs) through an organic-inorganic association offers several processing advantages in the design of heterogeneous catalysts. A clear understanding of the organization of these hybrid materials on solid surfaces is necessary to optimise their properties. Herein, we report for the first time the organization of Keggin phosphotungstic [PW12O40](3-) and Wells-Dawson (WD) phosphomolybdic [P2Mo18O62](6-) anions deposited on mica (hydrophilic), and highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) (hydrophobic) surfaces. Next, the supramolecular organization of the organic-inorganic hybrid materials formed from the association of POM anions and dimethyldioctadecylammonium bromide (DODA) is investigated as a function of the hydrophilic or hydrophobic nature of the surfaces. The height of the Keggin-POM anions, measured with tapping mode (TM-AFM) is always in good agreement with the molecular dimension of symmetric Keggin-POM anions (ca. 1 nm). However, the asymmetric WD-POM anions form monolayer assemblies on the surfaces with the orientation of their long molecular axis (ca. 1.6 nm) depending on the hydrophilic or hydrophobic properties of the substrate. Namely, the long axis is parallel on mica, and perpendicular on HOPG. When hybridized with DODA, the organization of the hybrid material is dictated by the interaction of the alkyl side chains of DODA with the substrate surface. On HOPG, the DODA-POM hybrid forms small domains of epitaxially arranged straight nanorod structures with their orientation parallel to each other. Conversely, randomly distributed nanospheres are formed when the hybrid material is deposited on freshly cleaved mica. Finally, a UV-ozone treatment of the hybrid material allows one to obtain highly dispersed isolated POM entities on both hydrophilic and hydrophobic surfaces. The hybridization strategy to prevent the clustering of POMs on various supports would enable to develop highly dispersed POM-based heterogeneous catalysts with enhanced functionalities.
