Amino modified metal-organic frameworks as pH-responsive nanoplatforms for safe delivery of camptothecin

Recent advances in manipulating strategies of NH2-functionalized metallic organic frameworks-based heterojunction photocatalysts for the sustainable mitigation of various pollutants

NH2-functionalized metal-organic frameworks (NH2-functionalized MOFs) can abate organic pollutants, predominantly favored by their chemical, mechanical, and thermal stabilities. The present review stated the chemistry of identifying NH2-functionalization and its role in enhancing the properties of bare MOFs. The integration of the amine group bestows several advantages: 1.) enabling band structure modification, 2.) establishing strong metal-NH2 bonds, 3.) preserving MOF structures from reactive oxygen species, and 4.) shielding MOF structures against pH alterations. Consequently, the NH2-functionalized MOFs are promising materials for the photodegradation of organic contaminants. The following section illustrates the two approaches (pre-synthetic and post-synthetic) for NH2-functionalized MOFs. Nevertheless, specific intrinsic limitations, entailing a high recombination rate of charge carriers and inadequate optical adsorption, restrain the applicability of NH2-functionalized MOFs. Accordingly, the succeeding segment presents strategies to elevate the photocatalytic activities of NH2-functionalized MOFs via heterojunction fabrication. The importance of the NH2-functionalized MOFs-based heterojunction has been evaluated in terms of the effect on the enhancement of charge separation, optical adsorption, and redox ability of charge carriers. Subsequently, the potential application for organic pollutant degradation via NH2-functionalized MOFs-based heterojunctions has been scrutinized, wherein the organic pollutants. Eventually, the review concluded with challenges and potential opportunities in engaging and burgeoning domains of the NH2-functionalized MOFs-based heterojunctions.

Nanocomposites Based on Magnetic Nanoparticles and Metal-Organic Frameworks for Therapy, Diagnosis, and Theragnostics

In the last two decades, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with highly tunable structure and porosity, have emerged as drug nanocarriers in the biomedical field. In particular, nanoscaled MOFs (nanoMOFs) have been widely investigated because of their potential biocompatibility, high drug loadings, and progressive release. To enhance their properties, MOFs have been combined with magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) to form magnetic nanocomposites (MNP@MOF) with additional functionalities. Due to the magnetic properties of the MNPs, their presence in the nanosystems enables potential combinatorial magnetic targeted therapy and diagnosis. In this Review, we analyze the four main synthetic strategies currently employed for the fabrication of MNP@MOF nanocomposites, namely, mixing, in situ formation of MNPs in presynthesized MOF, in situ formation of MOFs in the presence of MNPs, and layer-by-layer methods. Additionally, we discuss the current progress in bioapplications, focusing on drug delivery systems (DDSs), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), magnetic hyperthermia (MHT), and theragnostic systems. Overall, we provide a comprehensive overview of the recent advances in the development and bioapplications of MNP@MOF nanocomposites, highlighting their potential for future biomedical applications with a critical analysis of the challenges and limitations of these nanocomposites in terms of their synthesis, characterization, biocompatibility, and applicability.

Current status of controlled onco-therapies based on metal organic frameworks

Despite consecutive efforts devoted to the establishment of innovative therapeutics for cancer control, cancer remains as a primary global public health concern. Achieving controlled release of anti-cancer agents may add great value to the field of oncology that requires the involvement of nanotechnologies. Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) hold great promise in this regard owing to their unique structural properties. MOFs can act as superior candidates for drug delivery given their porous structure and large loading area, and can be prepared into anti-cancer therapeutics by incorporating stimuli-sensitive components into the ligands or nodes of the framework. By combing through chemical and physical features of MOFs favorable for onco-therapeutic applications and current cancer treatment portfolios taking advantages of these characteristics, this review classified MOFs feasible for establishing controlled anti-cancer modalities into 6 categories, outlined the corresponding strategies currently available for each type of MOF, and identified understudied areas and future opportunities towards innovative MOF design for improved or expanded clinical anti-cancer applications.

Synthesis, characterization, and efficacy evaluation of a PH-responsive Fe-MOF@GO composite drug delivery system for the treating colorectal cancer

Luteolin is a potent anti-colorectal cancer chemical. However, its effectiveness is hindered by its poor solubility in water and fat, and it is easy to degrade by gastrointestinal enzymes. In this study, a nano-composite carrier, NH2-MIL-101(Fe)@GO (MG), based on aminated MIL-101(Fe) and graphene oxide (GO) was developed and evaluated. This carrier co-delivered luteolin and matrine, while marine was used to balance the pH for the nano-preparation. The loading capacities for luteolin and matrine were approximately 9.8% and 14.1%, respectively. Luteolin's release at pH = 5 was significantly higher than at pH = 7.4, indicating it had an acidic pH response release characteristic. Compared to MOF and GO alone, MG and NH2-MIL-101(Fe)@GO@Drugs (MGD) enhanced anti-cancer activity by inhibiting tumor cell migration, increasing ROS generation, and upregulating the expression of Caspase-3 and Caspase-9. In conclusion, this study contributes new ideas and methods to the treatment strategy of multi-component anti-colorectal cancer therapy. It also advances drug delivery systems and supports the development of more effective and targeted treatment approaches for colorectal cancer.

Camptothecin-based prodrug nanomedicines for cancer therapy

Camptothecin (CPT) is a cytotoxic alkaloid that attenuates the replication of cancer cells via blocking DNA topoisomerase 1. Despite its encouraging and wide-spectrum antitumour activity, its application is significantly restricted owing to its instability, low solubility, significant toxicity, and acquired tumour cell resistance. This has resulted in the development of many CPT-based therapeutic agents, especially CPT-based nanomedicines, with improved pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profiles. Specifically, smart CPT-based prodrug nanomedicines with stimuli-responsive release capacity have been extensively explored owing to the advantages such as high drug loading, improved stability, and decreased potential toxicity caused by the carrier materials in comparison with normal nanodrugs and traditional delivery systems. In this review, the potential strategies and applications of CPT-based nanoprodrugs for enhanced CPT delivery toward cancer cells are summarized. We appraise in detail the chemical structures and release mechanisms of these nanoprodrugs and guide materials chemists to develop more powerful nanomedicines that have real clinical therapeutic capacities.

Stimuli-Responsive Design of Metal-Organic Frameworks for Cancer Theranostics: Current Challenges and Future Perspective

Scientific fraternity revealed the potential of stimuli-responsive nanotherapeutics for cancer treatment that aids in tackling the major restrictions of traditionally reported drug delivery systems. Among stimuli-responsive inorganic nanomaterials, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have transpired as unique porous materials displaying resilient structures and diverse applications in cancer theranostics. Mainly, it demonstrates tailorable porosity, versatile chemical configuration, tunable size and shape, and feasible surface functionalization, etc. The present review provides insights into the design of stimuli-responsive multifunctional MOFs for targeted drug delivery and bioimaging for effective cancer therapy. Initially, the concept of cancer, traditional cancer treatment, background of MOFs, and approaches for MOFs synthesis have been discussed. After this, applications of stimuli-responsive multifunctional MOFs-assisted nanostructures that include pH, light, ions, temperature, magnetic, redox, ATP, and others for targeted drug delivery and bioimaging in cancer have been thoroughly discussed. As an outcome, the designed multifunctional MOFs showed an alteration in properties due to the exogenous and endogenous stimuli that are beneficial for drug release and bioimaging. The several reported types of stimuli-responsive surface-modified MOFs revealed good biocompatibility to normal cells, promising drug loading capability, target-specific delivery of anticancer drugs into cancerous cells, etc. Despite substantial progress in this field, certain crucial issues need to be addressed to reap the clinical benefits of multifunctional MOFs. Specifically, the toxicological compatibility and biodegradability of the building blocks of MOFs demand a thorough evaluation. Moreover, the investigation of sustainable and greener synthesis methods is of the utmost importance. Also, the low flexibility, off-target accumulation, and compromised pharmacokinetic profile of stimuli-responsive MOFs have attracted keen attention. In conclusion, the surface-modified nanosized design of inorganic diverse stimuli-sensitive MOFs demonstrated great potential for targeted drug delivery and bioimaging in different kinds of cancers. In the future, the preference for stimuli-triggered MOFs will open a new frontier for cancer theranostic applications.

Current Principles, Challenges, and New Metrics in pH-Responsive Drug Delivery Systems for Systemic Cancer Therapy

The paradigm of drug delivery via particulate formulations is one of the leading ideas that enable overcoming limitations of traditional chemotherapeutic agents. The trend toward more complex multifunctional drug carriers is well-traced in the literature. Nowadays, the prospectiveness of stimuli-responsive systems capable of controlled cargo release in the lesion nidus is widely accepted. Both endogenous and exogenous stimuli are employed for this purpose; however, endogenous pH is the most common trigger. Unfortunately, scientists encounter multiple challenges on the way to the implementation of this idea related to the vehicles' accumulation in off-target tissues, their immunogenicity, the complexity of drug delivery to intracellular targets, and finally, the difficulties in the fabrication of carriers matching all imposed requirements. Here, we discuss fundamental strategies for pH-responsive drug delivery, as well as limitations related to such carriers' application, and reveal the main problems, weaknesses, and reasons for poor clinical results. Moreover, we attempted to formulate the profiles of an "ideal" drug carrier in the frame of different strategies drawing on the example of metal-comprising materials and considered recently published studies through the lens of these profiles. We believe that this approach will facilitate the formulation of the main challenges facing researchers and the identification of the most promising trends in technology development.

A review of recent developments of metal-organic frameworks as combined biomedical platforms over the past decade

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), also called porous coordination polymers, represent a class of crystalline porous materials made up of organic ligands and metal ions/metal clusters. Herein, an overview of the preparation of different metal-organic frameworks and the recent advances in MOF-based stimuli-responsive drug delivery systems (DDSs) with the drug release mechanisms including pH-, temperature-, ion-, magnetic-, pressure-, adenosine-triphosphate (ATP)-, H₂S-, redox-, responsive, and photoresponsive MOF were rarely introduced. The combination therapy containing of two or more treatments can be enhanced treatment effectiveness through overcoming limitations of monotherapy. Photothermal therapy (PTT) combined with chemotherapy (CT), chemotherapy in combination with PTT or other combinations were explained to overcome drug resistance and side effects in normal cells as well as enhancing the therapeutic response. Integrated platforms containing of photothermal/drug-delivering functions with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) properties exhibited great advantages in cancer therapy.

Metal-organic framework decorated with glycyrrhetinic acid conjugated chitosan as a pH-responsive nanocarrier for targeted drug delivery

Stimulus-responsive nanomaterials have become a hot spot in controllable drug delivery systems researches owing to their spatiotemporal controllable properties based on the differences between tumor microenvironment and normal tissue. Herein, iron (III) carboxylate metal-organic framework nanoparticles coated with glycyrrhetinic acid-chitosan conjugate (MIL-101/GA-CS) were successfully fabricated and acted as the pH-responsive and target-selective system to deliver doxorubicin (DOX) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) therapy. The prepared nanocarrier possess the advantages of uniform size, comparable drug loading efficiency (28.89 %), and superior pH-dependent controlled drug release (DOX release of 2.74 % and 89.18 % within 72 h at pH 7.4 and 5.5, respectively). In vitro cytotoxicity assays showed that the drug-loaded nanocarriers exhibited excellent inhibitory effects on HepG2 cells due to the sustained release of DOX, while the nanocarriers showed no significant toxicity. Furthermore, cell uptake experiments demonstrated that MIL-101-DOX/GA-CS could target HepG2 cells based on receptor-dependent internalization of glycyrrhetinic acid-receptors-mediated (GA-receptors). In vitro 3D hepatoma cell microspheres experiments showed that MIL-101-DOX/GA-CS had excellent penetration and tumor killing ability. Therefore, MIL-101-DOX/GA-CS nanoparticles have a prospective application in cancer therapy as a pH-responsive controlled drug delivery system.

Nanosized metal-organic frameworks as unique platforms for bioapplications

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are extremely versatile materials, which serve to create platforms with exceptional porosity and specific reactivities. The production of MOFs at the nanoscale (NMOFs) offers the possibility of creating innovative materials for bioapplications as long as they maintain the properties of their larger counterparts. Due to their inherent chemical versatility, synthetic methods to produce them at the nanoscale can be combined with inorganic nanoparticles (NPs) to create nanocomposites (NCs) with one-of-a-kind features. These systems can be remotely controlled and can catalyze abiotic reactions in living cells, which have the potential to stimulate further research on these nanocomposites as tools for advanced therapies.

Surface-initiated polymerization of PVDF membrane using amine and bismuth tungstate (BWO) modified MIL-100(Fe) nanofillers for pesticide photodegradation

Pirimicarb as a pesticide is used to control the aphids in the agriculture field; however, it affects the groundwater ecosystem by leaching through the soil profile. The post-synthetic amine and BWO modified MIL-100 (Fe) nanofillers were synthesized. The photocatalytic property of amine-functionalized and BWO@MIL-100(Fe) nanofillers was confirmed by the lesser bandgap energy than the unmodified MIL-100 (Fe) nanofiller. Herein, we constructed a nanofillers grafted PVDF membrane via in-situ polymerization technique for the pirimicarb reduction and photodegradation. Furthermore, the nanofiller's grafted membranes were characterized by FESEM, XRD, FTIR, and contact angle analysis. The carboxylic acid peak was observed on the FTIR which demonstrated the PAA grafted on the membrane surface and similar crystalline peaks evident that the nanofillers were grafted on the membrane surface. Furthermore, surface morphology studies have exhibited the dispersion of nanofillers and enhanced microvoids in the cross-section of the membrane. The decrease in the water contact angle of the membrane depicted the improved antifouling properties and surface energy. The nanofiller's grafted membranes have shown higher hydrophilicity correlated well with the enhanced pure water flux in the order M4 > M5 > M2 > M3 > M6 > M7 compared to the neat membrane (M1). In BWO@MIL-100(Fe) membrane has shown a higher permeate flux (25.99 L m^-2.h^-1) than the neat PVDF membrane. The BWO@MIL-100(Fe) grafted PVDF membrane has also shown excellent pirimicarb photodegradation of 81% at pH 5. The proposed MIL-100 (Fe) and bismuth tungsten nanocomposite will pave the way for the different MOF-based photocatalytic materials for membrane-based pesticide degradation.

MIL-125-based nanocarrier decorated with Palladium complex for targeted drug delivery

The aim of this work was to provide a novel approach to designing and synthesizing a nanocomposite with significant biocompatibility, biodegradability, and stability in biological microenvironments. Hence, the porous ultra-low-density materials, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), have been considered and the MIL-125(Ti) has been chosen due to its distinctive characteristics such as great biocompatibility and good biodegradability immobilized on the surface of the reduced graphene oxide (rGO). Based on the results, the presence of transition metal complexes next to the drug not only can reinforce the stability of the drug on the structure by preparing π–π interaction between ligands and the drug but also can enhance the efficiency of the drug by preventing the spontaneous release. The effect of utilizing transition metal complex beside drug (Doxorubicin (DOX)) on the drug loading, drug release, and antibacterial activity of prepared nanocomposites on the P. aeruginosa and S. aureus as a model bacterium has been investigated and the results revealed that this theory leads to increasing about 200% in antibacterial activity. In addition, uptake, the release of the drug, and relative cell viabilities (in vitro and in vivo) of prepared nanomaterials and biomaterials have been discussed. Based on collected data, the median size of prepared nanocomposites was 156.2 nm, and their biological stability in PBS and DMEM + 10% FBS was screened and revealed that after 2.880 min, the nanocomposite’s size reached 242.3 and 516 nm respectively. The MTT results demonstrated that immobilizing PdL beside DOX leads to an increase of more than 15% in the cell viability. It is noticeable that the AST:ALT result of prepared nanocomposite was under 1.5.

Applications of Metal-Organic Frameworks as Drug Delivery Systems

In the last decade, metal organic frameworks (MOFs) have shown great prospective as new drug delivery systems (DDSs) due to their unique properties: these materials exhibit fascinating architectures, surfaces, composition, and a rich chemistry of these compounds. The DSSs allow the release of the active pharmaceutical ingredient to accomplish a desired therapeutic response. Over the past few decades, there has been exponential growth of many new classes of coordination polymers, and MOFs have gained popularity over other identified systems due to their higher biocompatibility and versatile loading capabilities. This review presents and assesses the most recent research, findings, and challenges associated with the use of MOFs as DDSs. Among the most commonly used MOFs for investigated-purpose MOFs, coordination polymers and metal complexes based on synthetic and natural polymers, are well known. Specific attention is given to the stimuli- and multistimuli-responsive MOFs-based DDSs. Of great interest in the COVID-19 pandemic is the use of MOFs for combination therapy and multimodal systems.

Anti-Influenza Virus Study of Composite Material with MIL-101(Fe)-Adsorbed Favipiravir

Nanomaterial technology has attracted much attention because of its antibacterial and drug delivery properties, among other applications. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have advantages, such as their pore structure, large specific surface area, open metal sites, and chemical stability, over other nanomaterials, enabling better drug encapsulation and adsorption. In two examples, we used the common pathogenic bacterium Staphylococcus aureus and highly infectious influenza A virus. A novel complex MIL-101(Fe)-T705 was formed by synthesizing MOF material MIL-101(Fe) with the drug favipiravir (T-705), and a hot solvent synthesis method was applied to investigate the in vitro antibacterial and antiviral activities. The results showed that MIL-101(Fe)-T705 combined the advantages of nanomaterials and drugs and could inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus at a concentration of 0.0032 g/mL. Regarding the inhibition of influenza A virus, MIL-101(Fe)-T705 showed good biosafety at 12, 24, 48, and 72 h in addition to a good antiviral effect at concentrations of 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.8, 1.6, and 3 μg/mL, which were higher than MIL-101(Fe) and T-705.

Biomedical Applications of Metal-Organic Frameworks for Disease Diagnosis and Drug Delivery: A Review

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a novel class of porous hybrid organic-inorganic materials that have attracted increasing attention over the past decade. MOFs can be used in chemical engineering, materials science, and chemistry applications. Recently, these structures have been thoroughly studied as promising platforms for biomedical applications. Due to their unique physical and chemical properties, they are regarded as promising candidates for disease diagnosis and drug delivery. Their well-defined structure, high porosity, tunable frameworks, wide range of pore shapes, ultrahigh surface area, relatively low toxicity, and easy chemical functionalization have made them the focus of extensive research. This review highlights the up-to-date progress of MOFs as potential platforms for disease diagnosis and drug delivery for a wide range of diseases such as cancer, diabetes, neurological disorders, and ocular diseases. A brief description of the synthesis methods of MOFs is first presented. Various examples of MOF-based sensors and DDSs are introduced for the different diseases. Finally, the challenges and perspectives are discussed to provide context for the future development of MOFs as efficient platforms for disease diagnosis and drug delivery systems.

Metal-Organic Frameworks and Their Composites Towards Biomedical Applications

Owing to their unique features, including high cargo loading, biodegradability, and tailorability, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and their composites have attracted increasing attention in various fields. In this review, application strategies of MOFs and their composites in nanomedicine with emphasis on their functions are presented, from drug delivery, therapeutic agents for different diseases, and imaging contrast agents to sensor nanoreactors. Applications of MOF derivatives in nanomedicine are also introduced. Besides, we summarize different functionalities related to MOFs, which include targeting strategy, biomimetic modification, responsive moieties, and other functional decorations. Finally, challenges and prospects are highlighted about MOFs in future applications.

Membrane Technological Pathways and Inherent Structure of Bacterial Cellulose Composites for Drug Delivery

This report summarizes efforts undertaken in the area of drug delivery, with a look at further efforts made in the area of bacterial cellulose (BC) biomedical applications in general. There are many current methodologies (past and present) for the creation of BC membrane composites custom-engineered with drug delivery functionality, with brief consideration for very close applications within the broader category of biomedicine. The most emphasis was placed on the crucial aspects that open the door to the possibility of drug delivery or the potential for use as drug carriers. Additionally, consideration has been given to laboratory explorations as well as already established BC-drug delivery systems (DDS) that are either on the market commercially or have been patented in anticipation of future commercialization. The cellulose producing strains, current synthesis and growth pathways, critical aspects and intrinsic morphological features of BC were given maximum consideration, among other crucial aspects of BC DDS.

Supramolecular metal-based nanoparticles for drug delivery and cancer therapy

Although conventional cancer therapies such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy prevail in clinic, they tend to have narrow therapeutic windows. Many chemotherapies have unfavorable pharmacokinetics while radiotherapy incurs radiotoxicity to normal tissues surrounding tumors. The chemical tunability of supramolecular metal-based nanoparticles (SMNPs) enables the incorporation of various therapeutics, including hydrophilic and hydrophobic chemotherapeutic drugs, photosensitizers, radiosensitizers, and biological therapeutics for more effective delivery to tumors. In this mini-review, we highlight recent advances in SMNPs, namely nanoscale coordination polymers and nanoscale metal-organic frameworks, for drug delivery and cancer therapy. We particularly focus on innovative uses of metal clusters, ligands, pores, and surface modifications to load various therapeutics into SMNPs and critical evaluations of the anticancer efficacies of SMNPs.

Versatile Nanoscale Metal-Organic Frameworks (nMOFs): An Emerging 3D Nanoplatform for Drug Delivery and Therapeutic Applications

For decades, nanoscale metal-organic frameworks (nMOFs) have attracted extensive interest in biomedicine due to their distinct characteristics, including facile synthesis, porous interior, and tunable biocompatibility. With high porosity, versatile nMOFs allow for the facile encapsulation of various therapeutic agents with exceptionally high payloads. Constructed from metal ions and organic linkers through coordination bonds, nMOFs with plentiful functional groups enable the surface modification for active targeting and enhanced biocompatibility. This review outlines the up-to-date progresses on the exploration of nMOFs in the field of biomedicine. First, the classification and synthesis of nMOFs are discussed, followed by the concrete introduction of drug loading strategies of nMOFs and mechanisms of stimulation-responsive drug release. Second, the smart designs of the nMOFs-based platforms for anticancer and antibacterial treatment are summarized. Finally, the basic challenges faced by nMOFs research and the great potential of biomimetic nMOFs are presented. This review article affords an inspiring insight into the interdisciplinary research of nMOFs and their biomedical applications, which holds great expectation for their further clinical translation.

Recent advances in nanosized metal organic frameworks for drug delivery and tumor therapy

Metal organic-frameworks (MOFs) are novel materials that have attracted increasing attention for applications in a wide range of research, owing to their unique advantages including their small particle size, porous framework structure and high specific surface area. Because of their adjustable size, nanoscale MOFs (nano-MOFs) can be prepared as carriers of biotherapy drugs, thus enabling biotherapeutic applications. Nano-MOFs' metal ion catalytic activity and organic group functional characteristics can be exploited in biological treatments. Furthermore, the applications of nano-MOFs can be broadened by hybridization with other materials to form composites. This review focuses on the preparation and recent advances in nano-MOFs as drug carriers, therapeutic materials and functionalized materials in drug delivery and tumor therapy based on the single/multiple stimulus response of drug release to achieve the targeted therapy, offering a comprehensive reference for drug carrier design. At the end, the current challenges and prospects are discussed to provide significant insight into the design and applications of nano-MOFs in drug delivery and tumor therapy.

In situ deposition of MOF-74(Cu) nanosheet arrays onto carbon cloth to fabricate a sensitive and selective electrocatalytic biosensor and its application for the determination of glucose in human serum

A new electrocatalytic biosensor (MOF-74(Cu) NS-CC) based on the in situ deposition of MOF-74(Cu) nanosheet on carbon cloth via a bottom-up synthetic approach in a glass tube was developed. The electrocatalytic activity of the deposited MOF-74(Cu) NS was demonstrated in the oxidation of glucose to gluconate under alkaline conditions. The results revealed that the proposed method of in situ formation of MOF-74(Cu) NS onto a carbon cloth surface in a multi-layer solution is capable to generate a stable MOF-74(Cu) NS-CC electrode with excellent sensing performance. When the as-synthesized MOF-74(Cu) NS-CC was applied directly as the working electrode for glucose sensing, it showed much higher conductivity and redox activity than MOF-74(Cu) NS-GCE. With the potential applied at 0.55 V (vs. Ag/AgCl), this new electrocatalytic biosensor exhibits an excellent linear relationship between current density and concentration of glucose. Moreover, a wide linear range of detection (1.0 to 1000 μM) was observed. The limit of detection was found to be 0.41 μM (S/N = 3). The response sensitivity is 3.35 mA mM^-1 cm^-2 when the concentration of glucose is in the range 1-100 μM and 3.81 mA mM^-1 cm^-2 for the 100-1000 μM concentration range. This study provides a low-cost, easy to prepare, and reproducible methodology for the synthesis of highly redox-active nanomaterials based on the in situ formation of two-dimensional MOF-74(Cu) NS for the development of new electrocatalytic biosensors.
