Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate and compare internal fit and marginal adaptation of conventional lithium disilicate (LDS) glass ceramics and LDS containing virgilite computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD-CAM) blocks before and after aging. MATERIALS AND METHODS Seventy-two epoxy replicated dies from two prepared maxillary right central incisors acrylic typodont were divided into two groups of different preparation designs (n = 36): Group I, incisal butt-joint, and Group P, incisal overlap. Each group was further subdivided into two equal groups according to ceramic material (n = 18): Group E, IPS e.max CAD, and Group T, Tessera advanced lithium disilicate (ALD) CAD-CAM blocks. The replica technique was used to assess the internal fit using a stereomicroscope at 45× magnification. Laminate veneers were cemented to their corresponding epoxy dies, then the vertical marginal gap was evaluated before and after thermal cycling. Repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used for marginal fit data and 2-way ANOVA for internal fit measurements (α = 0.05). RESULTS For internal fit, there were no significant differences between tested groups. For vertical marginal gap results, two-way ANOVA showed that only aging had a significant effect on the vertical marginal gap (p < 0.001), while different CAD-CAM materials and preparation designs did not affect the vertical marginal gap. CONCLUSIONS The vertical marginal gap and internal fits of IPS e.max CAD and CEREC Tessera CAD for both preparation designs were comparable. Aging significantly affected the vertical marginal gap of the laminate veneers of both materials and both preparation designs; however, all were within clinically acceptable ranges before and after aging.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This in vitro study aimed to assess and contrast the marginal and internal adaptation of all-ceramic prefabricated veneers manufactured via the FirstFit guided tooth preparation system against all-ceramic veneers produced using the chairside Computer-Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacture (CAD/CAM) system following identical guided preparation protocols. MATERIALS AND METHODS Two main groups were included, with 16 lithium disilicate veneers per group. Four typodonts were used for the test (FirstFit) and control CAD/CAM groups. Intraoral scans created master casts and preparation guides. Guides performed preparations on typodont teeth (two central incisors and two lateral incisors). Prepared teeth were scanned (CEREC Omnicam) to design and mill CAD/CAM veneers. Marginal gap thickness and cement space thickness were measured using light microscopy at four locations: marginal, cervical internal, middle internal, and incisal internal. RESULTS No significant difference existed between groups for marginal adaptation (p = 0.058) or incisal internal adaptation (p = 0.076). The control group had significantly lower values for middle internal adaptation (p = 0.023) and cervical internal adaptation (p = 0.019). CONCLUSIONS Guided preparation evaluation showed no significant differences in marginal or incisal internal adaptation. The CAD/CAM group had significantly lower middle and cervical internal adaptation values.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Clinical information regarding the color stability of lithium disilicate veneers by using different methods of evaluation is scarce. PURPOSE This clinical trial aimed to evaluate whether digital photographs are a reliable method of clinically assessing the color stability of lithium disilicate veneers. Standardized digital photographs (ELAB) were compared with the VITA Easyshade spectrophotometer (ES) at baseline and at a 6-month follow-up. MATERIAL AND METHODS A split-mouth model was used in this randomized clinical trial to assess the performance of ceramic veneers (N=162), which were produced by either the CAD (IPS e.max CAD; n=81) or PRESS technique by heat pressing (IPS e.max PRESS; n=81), including the color dimension assessment. The ELAB evaluation was performed by making digital photographs with polarized light and a white balance (WhiBal) card. These data were transferred to the Adobe Lightroom CC2015 software program in RAW extension. The Digital Color Meter App (Apple) was used to measure L∗, a∗, and b∗ coordinates in this method. The ES color evaluation was performed with a spectrophotometer (Easy Shade) (control group) in the CIELab system. Measurements were performed 1 week after cementation (baseline) and at a 6-month follow-up. Data collected by the ELAB and ES methods were analyzed by a blinded calibrated operator to calculate ΔE by using the Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon test (α=.05). RESULTS For all periods, the comparison among ELAB and ES methods (P=.331), CAD×PRESS by ELAB (P=.658), and CAD×PRESS by ES (P=.833) showed no statistically significant differences. CONCLUSIONS Standardized digital photographs (ELAB) were shown to be a straightforward and available resource for evaluating the color stability of lithium disilicate veneers, manufactured by CAD or PRESS.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Evidence on the long-term clinical assessment and longevity of ceramic veneers bonded to different substrates is limited. PURPOSE The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the effect of various substrates, including enamel, dentin, or an existing composite resin restoration, on the clinical survival and complication rates of ceramic veneers. MATERIAL AND METHODS The PubMed, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library electronic databases were searched, and related journals were hand searched without time or language restrictions to identify clinical trials that compared the survival rate and clinical complication rates when bonding ceramic veneers to different tooth substrates. The success rate of the included participants was estimated by the number of veneers that did not require a clinical intervention, and the survival rate by all veneers that did not fail absolutely. The risk difference (RD) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for dichotomous outcomes was used to quantify the intervention effect. RESULTS Of 973 screened articles, 6 clinical studies were included. The survival and success rates varied depending on the bonding substrate. Enamel-bonded veneers had almost perfect rates of survival (99% with a range of 98% to 100%) and success (99% with a range of 98% to 100%). Veneers bonded to composite resin or surfaces with minimal dentin exposure had slightly lower survival rates (94% with a range of 91% to 97% and 95% with a range of 91% to 100%, respectively) and success rates (70% with a range of 60% to 80% and 95% with a range of 90% to 99%). Severe dentin exposure significantly decreased both survival rates (91% with a range of 84% to 98%) and success rates (74% with a range of 64% to 85%). The combined findings suggested that ceramic veneers bonded to enamel had fewer clinical complications (RD: -0.04; 95% CI: -0.09 to 0.02) and lower failure rates (RD: -0.13; 95% CI: -0.32 to 0.07) compared with those bonded to exposed dentin. Additionally, veneers attached to teeth with minimal dentin exposure were significantly less likely to require clinical interventions (RD: -0.16; 95% CI: -0.31 to -0.01) and had a reduced incidence of failure (RD: -0.08; 95% CI: -0.17 to 0.01) compared with those with severe dentin exposure. CONCLUSIONS Ceramic veneers bonded to enamel showed higher survival and success rates with lower clinical incidences of complications and failure than those bonded to dentin or teeth with existing composite resin restorations.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Whether the scanning strategy of intraoral scanners (IOSs) affects the accuracy of the digital recording for an indirect ceramic inlay restoration is unclear. Furthermore, which strategy would be optimal and most effective is uncertain. PURPOSE The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the impact of 3 different scanning strategies using the Carestream CS 3700 IOS on the marginal and internal fit of a mesio-occluso-distal (MOD) ceramic inlay restoration. MATERIAL AND METHODS A typodont master model (ANA-4 VCER; Frasaco) was used with a standardized preprepared MOD inlay maxillary first molar typodont tooth (ANA-4 ZP16 CER99-008; Frasaco) (N=30). These inlay preparations were scanned with the CS 3700 IOS using 3 different scanning strategies: linear, wave, and S-figure scanning strategies. Each scan strategy group was scanned 10 times for all groups to obtain 30 standard tessellation language (STL) files. Thirty restorations were milled from lithium disilicate CAD blocks (IPS e.max; Ivoclar AG) and cemented into their typodont-prepared inlay cavities. A single examiner used a stereomicroscope to measure the marginal and internal gaps at the predetermined points. A 1-way ANOVA was used for the statistical analysis, followed by the Tukey post hoc test with Bonferroni adjustment. All tests were 2-tailed (α=.05). RESULTS All scanning strategy groups demonstrated statistically significant differences for the marginal and internal fit of the inlay restorations (P<.001). Overall, the linear scanning strategy showed the lowest mean marginal and internal gap values (29.2 ±3.6 µm and 39.0 ±6.4 µm), followed by the wave scanning strategy, which had comparable mean marginal and internal gap values: 49.1 ±3.6 µm and 48.2 ±6.0 µm, respectively. The S-figure scan strategy had the highest mean marginal and internal gap values: 50.2 ±12.6 µm and 71.3 ±7.7 µm, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Inlay restorations scanned by the linear scan strategy had the best marginal and internal fit when scanned with the CS 3700 IOS.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To compare, in vitro, resin cement excess removal techniques at the veneer-tooth interface. MATERIALS AND METHODS Anterior human teeth were restored with ceramic veneers and randomly divided according to the following techniques (n = 10): removal of excess resin cement with brush and dental floss, followed by light-curing with Valo (Group 1) or Elipar (Group 2) for 1 min and 40 s; tack-curing with Valo (Group 3) or Elipar (Group 4) for 1 s; and tack-curing with Valo (Group 5) or Elipar (Group 6) for 5 s. The tack-curing was followed by removal of excess with probe and dental floss and light-curing for 1 min and 40 s. The area of excess resin cement (mm2) was measured in micro-CT images using AutoCAD program. The failures at the cervical margin in the X, Y, and Z axes (µm) of greater value were measured using the DataViewer program. The specimens were submitted to microleakage with 2% basic fuchsin. RESULTS According to the Kruskal-Wallis and multiple comparison test, the highest area of excess resin cement was found in Group 1 (5.06 mm2), which did not differ statistically from Groups 2 (3.70 mm2) and 5 (2.19 mm2). Groups 2, 3 (1.73 mm2), 4 (1.14 mm2), and 5 (2.18 mm2) did not differ statistically. Group 6 (0.77 mm2) obtained the lowest value, which did not differ statistically from Groups 3 and 4. According to the Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn test, there was no significant difference in failures in X (p = 0.981), Y (p = 0.860), and Z (p = 0.638) axes and no significant difference in microleakage (p = 0.203) among the groups. CONCLUSIONS Tack-curing for 1 s or 5 s, followed by removal of excess resin cement using a probe and a dental floss, tended to result in a lower amount of excess material around the margin. CLINICAL RELEVANCE The technique used for resin cement excess removal influences the amount of excess leaved at the veneer-tooth interface. Tack-curing for 1 s or 5 s is recommended to mitigate the excess resin cement.

Abstract
Aim The aim is to evaluate the degree of dye penetration between a dual-cure and conventional resin cement on its application on the root surface indirect restorations to provide a reference for clinical choice. Materials and methods Ten freshly extracted human maxillary central anteriors were selected and randomly divided into two groups of five each. Teeth were prepared for veneer restoration, and veneers were luted using two groups of cements Calibra veneer cement and Fusion Ultra D/C cement. After they were immersed in methylene blue dye solution for 24 h, the specimens were then sectioned buccolingual into three halves in a parallel vertical plane and measured dye penetration using a stereomicroscope (Zeiss). The data collected was recorded by the dye penetration index (0-4) and statistically analyzed using the IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 24 (Released 2016; IBM Corp., Armonk, New York, United States). Results It is evident that group 1 (Calibra veneer cement) showed the lowest mean score of 0.43 mm and group 2 (Fusion Ultra D/C) showed a highest mean score of 0.72 mm. Overall, when the two groups were compared for microleakage using SPSS, there was a significant difference among the groups. Conclusion It was determined that both the resin cements evaluated in this study showed microleakage to some level given the limits of the investigation and the findings. To evaluate the dye penetration of microleakage, the Calibra veneer resin cement showed a better marginal adaptability for veneer restoration. Further investigations with broader methodology and more clinical simulation are needed to evaluate other resin cements available for root surface indirect restorations to be analyzed for prospective clinical outcomes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effect of different hydrofluoric acid concentrations and etching times on the surface, chemical composition and microstructure of lithium disilicate. MATERIAL AND METHODS Ninety specimens of pressed lithium disilicate (LDS) were obtained (IPS e.max Press, Rosetta SP and LiSi Press). The specimens of each material were divided in two groups according to the hydrofluoric acid concentration: 5% and 10% (n = 15/group), and subdivided according to the etching time: 20, 40 and 60 s (n = 5/group). Crystalline evaluations and chemical composition were performed through x-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS), respectively. Microstructural analyses were performed by scanning electron microscope (SEM), surface roughness (Ra), and material thickness removal evaluation. Thickness removal and Ra data were analyzed by ANOVA and Tukey test (p < 0.05). RESULTS XRD demonstrated characteristic peaks of lithium disilicate crystals, lithium phosphate and of a vitreous phase for all materials. EDS identified different compositions and SEM confirmed different surface responses to acid etching protocols. Material and etching time influenced Ra and material thickness removal (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION Hydrofluoric acid concentration and etching time affect the surface characteristics of LDS differently. LiSi Press presented higher resistance to hydrofluoric acid etching compared to e.max Press and Rosetta SP. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Applying the appropriate etching protocol is pivotal to avoid excessive material removal and to prevent jeopardize the mechanical and optical properties of the material.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Marginal integrity and internal adaptation are key to the long-term success of porcelain laminate veneers. Evidence for their marginal and internal fit is unclear, and the factors affecting such fit have not been identified. PURPOSE The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to summarize the scientific literature assessing the effects of various parameters on the marginal and internal fit of porcelain laminate veneers. MATERIAL AND METHODS An electronic search was conducted to identify all relevant published articles on the fit accuracy of ceramic veneers between January 2000 and June 2021 in the PubMed-MEDLINE, Scopus, Embase, Google Scholar, and Web of Science databases. Information, including the study outcomes, in terms of the mean marginal gap, internal gap, and absolute marginal discrepancies of porcelain laminate veneers, was extracted from the selected studies. The inverse-variance random effects model was used to analyze the pooled results and estimate the overall effect based on the heterogeneity of studies (α=.05). RESULTS Twenty-one studies were selected for analysis, 2 clinical and 19 in vitro. The risk of bias was "medium" for most studies (19 of 21), and only 2 studies were classified as "high risk." A mean difference of -4.53 μm (95% CI: -21.46 to 12.41) was found, with no statistically significant difference in marginal gap between the pressed and milled fabrication modes (P=.600). As for the internal gap, significant differences were found (mean difference=-40.56 μm; 95% CI: -76.54 to -4.58), with pressed veneers performing better (P=.030). Butt joint preparation design produced significantly (P=.002) lower marginal gaps than the palatal chamfer (mean difference=-14.02 μm; 95% CI: -23.07 to -4.98). CONCLUSIONS No significant differences were found between the pressed and milled porcelain laminate veneers for marginal gap, but for the internal gap, the differences were significantly in favor of the pressed type. The butt joint veneer preparation design was significantly better than the palatal chamfer design in terms of marginal fit.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the influence of two different internal surface treatments, namely, the firing of feldspathic porcelain before or after zirconia sintering, on the marginal and internal adaptation of laminate veneers (LVs) made of high-translucent zirconia. A total of 33 zirconia LVs were fabricated using a CAD/CAM system and divided into three groups based on the internal surface treatment method: the pre-firing (PRE) group involved firing feldspathic porcelain before zirconia sintering, the post-firing (POS) group involved firing feldspathic porcelain after zirconia sintering, and the no treatment (NT) group involved no application of feldspathic porcelain. The adaptation of the LVs was measured using a silicone replica technique. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis and Steel-Dwass tests (α = .05). The POS group showed significantly higher marginal discrepancy values than the PRE group across all sites. The internal space values of the PRE groups were significantly lower than those of the NT group at all sites. The internal firing of feldspathic porcelain before zirconia sintering resulted in better marginal adaptation of the high-translucent zirconia LVs than the internal firing of feldspathic porcelain after zirconia sintering. The internal firing of feldspathic porcelain before zirconia sintering can achieve uniform internal adaptation of high-translucent zirconia LVs.

Abstract
This article presents a clinical technique for transferring Digital Smile Design (DSD) information and a digital wax-up to fabricate highly personalized ceramic laminate veneers. The hybrid workflow of digitally designed wax-up and conventional hand-crafted veneers is showcased in a female adult who sought to improve her smile due to maxillary anterior incisal wear. The ceramic veneers, layered by feldspathic porcelain, followed the contours and shade blueprint planned with the digital wax-up. The DSD improved the harmony of the facial-and-smile relationship, and the ceramic restorations fulfilled the patient's esthetic and functional demands. Guides based on the printed model with the digitally designed wax-up can provide a reference for pressed lithium disilicate veneers layered with feldspathic porcelain.

Abstract
The long-term success of ceramic laminate veneers (CLVs) is influenced by the marginal and internal fit of the restorations. However, studies comparing the fit of CLVs using different intraoral scanners or the indirect digitization technique are lacking. The purpose of this study was therefore to assess the marginal and internal fit of CAD/CAM-milled CLVs using different intraoral scanners and the indirect digitalization technique. An ivorine typodont maxillary left-central incisor was prepared; the tooth and the neighboring teeth were scanned and used as a template to print ninety 3D partial models. Thereafter, ceramic laminate veneers (CLVs) (N = 90) were milled from IPS-Emax CAD blocks and divided into six equal groups (15 specimens each) according to the type of intraoral scanner (IOS), as follows: Omnicam IOS, SC3600 IOS, Trios 3 IOS, Emerald IOS, I500 IOS. Fifteen further CLVs were fabricated using the conventional indirect digitalization technique. After cementation on the resin dies and embedding in clear epoxy resin, specimens were sectioned inciso-gingivally and mesio-distally. At the incisal and cervical positions, the marginal discrepancy was measured and evaluated in addition to the internal gap at six locations using SEM (200×). Differences between gap measurements among the six groups were determined using ANOVA. Games-Howell multiple comparisons for homogenous variances and LSD multiple comparisons for non-homogenous variances were used with 95% confidence intervals. The significance level was set at 0.05. The lowest mean absolute marginal gap at the incisal margins (AMGI) was recorded for Omnicam group (203.28 ± 80.14) µm, while the highest mean absolute marginal gap at the cervical margins (AMGC) was recorded for Omnicam group (147.16 ± 59.78) µm. The mean AMGC was reported to be significantly different between the conventional technique (146.75 ± 38.43) µm and Trios 3 (91.86 ± (35.51) µm; p = 0.001) and between Emerald (112.37 ± (50.31) µm; p = 0.042) and I500 (86.95 ± (41.55) µm; p < 0.001). The mean MGI was found to be significantly different between the conventional technique (114.11 ± (43.45) µm and I500 group (186.99 ± (73.84) µm) only (p = 0.035). However, no significant differences were found in the mean MGI between all types of IOSs. The means of AMG and MG were significantly different at incisal or cervical areas between the conventional technique and IOSs and within the scanner groups (p > 0.05). Marginal gaps were higher in the incisal region compared to the cervical region with both the indirect digitization technique and the IOSs. Ceramic laminate veneers (CLVs) fabricated using IOSs produced overall internal and marginal fit adaptation results comparable to CLVs fabricated from the indirect digitalization method, and both techniques produced clinically acceptable results.

Abstract
Methods 12 impressions were made of a resin maxillary model (second premolar and second molar) with two prepared abutment teeth using vinyl polysiloxane (VPS); the margin of the second premolar was 0.5 mm subgingivally; and the margin of the second molar tooth was at the level of the gingiva. Impressions were made using two techniques: one-step and two-step putty/light materials. A three-unit metal framework was fabricated on the master model using the computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technique. The vertical marginal misfit was evaluated in the buccal, lingual, and mesial and distal surfaces of the abutments on the gypsum casts using a light microscope. Data were analyzed using the independent t-test (α < 0.05). Results The results showed significantly lower vertical marginal misfit in all six areas evaluated around the two abutments in the two-step impression technique compared with the corresponding values in the one-step technique. Conclusion Vertical marginal misfit in the two-step technique with a preliminary putty impression was significantly lower than in the one-step putty/light-body technique.

Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the cervical marginal fit of porcelain laminate veneer (PLV) restorations made from two different types of CAD/CAM ceramic laminates: CEREC C PC and E.max (LD). Materials and Methods: This in-vitro experiment used a total of 32 human maxillary first premolars that were clean and free of any cracks or caries, extracted for orthodontic purposes. The samples were divided in a random way into two study groups: A and B (n = 16). Each sample was mounted on a dental surveyor and a silicon impression was made to create a silicone index for each tooth in both groups. Standardized preparation was carried out for all the samples by using preparation bur kit for the ceramic veneer system. Subsequently, digital impressions were made for all the samples by using Trios 3 shape intraoral camera (Sirona Dental Systems). The design of veneer restorations was made using Sirona inLab CAD SW 16.1 with CEREC inLab MC XL (Dentsply, Sirona Dental Systems, Bensheim, Germany). The veneer restorations were cemented using 3M RelyX veneer resin cement (3M ESPE, Seefeld, Germany) and the samples kept in distilled water for two weeks at 37 °C. All the specimens were subjected to thermocycling in a water bath with temperature varying between 5 °C and 55 °C for 500 cycles. The cervical marginal fit of veneers was evaluated by a digital microscope after sectioning the embedded teeth in acrylic resin. Results: The lowest mean of cervical marginal gap was recorded for Group A (91.59431 ± 1.626069) which was restored with CEREC CAD/CAM veneers, while the highest mean value of the gap was recorded for Group B (106.48863 ± 2.506684) which was restored with IPS E.max CAD. The t-test showed that the type of porcelain veneer restoration had a highly significant effect on the cervical marginal fit (p ≤ 0.01). Conclusions: CEREC CAD/CAM veneers showed smaller cervical marginal gaps, indicating a better fit compared to the IPS E.max CAD.

Abstract
To investigate the effect of resin cements on the color stability and translucency of ceramic laminate veneers used for diastema closure. Sixty resin abutments were prepared for ceramic laminate veneers and divided into six groups according to the ceramic type (lithium disilicate, zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate, and translucent zirconia) and the cement type (Variolink Esthetic LC and RelyX Veneer). Color coordinates and translucency were analyzed after cementation and after soaking in the coffee solution. Differences in color and translucency were estimated, and results were statistically assessed (α = 0.05). Ceramic materials showed a significant impact on color changes after soaking in coffee within Variolink Esthetic groups. Translucent zirconia showed the highest color change, followed by zirconia reinforced lithium silicate and lithium disilicate. Ceramic materials showed a significant impact among the RelyX Veneer groups. A significant interaction in color changes was found between ceramic types and cement types after cementation, and after soaking in coffee was found. All groups showed a clinically acceptable difference in translucency parameters after soaking in coffee. The resin cement affects the color and translucency of ceramic laminate veneers used for diastema closure, and ceramic laminate veneers bonded with Variolink Esthetic LC resin cement are more translucent, while ceramic laminate veneers bonded with RelyX Veneer resin are more resistant to coffee staining. The lithium disilicate laminate veneer is more resistant to coffee staining than zirconia reinforced lithium silicate and translucent zirconia laminate veneers used for diastema closure.

Abstract
This study aimed to systematically review the literature to evaluate the marginal adaptation of veneers using different fabrication methods, namely, conventional feldspathic porcelain laminate veneers (PLVs), computer-aided design-computer-aided machining (CAD-CAM) veneers, and pressed veneers. A comprehensive literature search was performed using electronic databases (PubMed and Google Scholar) as well as hand searches to identify all relevant studies related to veneers and marginal adaptation. The identified studies were screened for assessing the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The included articles were then subjected to data extraction and analysis. The search resulted in 130 articles, of which six were included in this systematic review. All included articles were assessed for adaptation of margins. Based on the findings of this systematic review, no significant differences were found in the marginal adaptation of CAD-CAM and conventional feldspathic PLVs. The marginal fidelity of ceramic veneers issuing from the various fabrication techniques was clinically acceptable.

Fracture Resistance of Monolithic Zirconia Crowns Depending on Different Marginal Thicknesses. MATERIALS 2022; 15:ma15144861. Abstract
Under some clinical conditions, the preparation of crowns of limited marginal thickness is inevitable. In such situations, it is questionable whether the same ideal preparation criteria can be applied equally. Since there are only a small number of studies focusing on the fracture resistance with respect to the marginal thickness, there is a need for a study evaluating whether zirconia crowns of limited marginal thickness are clinically acceptable. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the fracture resistance of monolithic zirconia crowns of limited marginal thickness in the posterior area. Methods: Abutments and CAD/CAM zirconia crowns with a marginal thickness of 1.0 mm were set as the control group, while experimental groups A, B, and C possessed reduced marginal thicknesses of 0.8 mm, 0.6 mm, and 0.4 mm, respectively (n = 10 per group). Resin-based abutment dies and monolithic zirconia crowns were fabricated using the CAD/CAM technique, and a universal testing machine was used to measure the fracture load value. Fractured specimens were examined with a scanning electron microscope. The data were analyzed using a one-way ANOVA and Bonferroni post hoc test (p < 0.05). Results: The means and standard deviations of the fracture load values of the control group and the three experimental groups were as follows: control group (1.0 mm): 3090.91 ± 527.77 N; group A (0.8 mm): 2645.39 ± 329.21 N; group B (0.6 mm): 2256.85 ± 454.15 N; group C (0.4 mm): 1957.8 ± 522.14 N. Conclusions: The crowns fabricated with a CAD/CAM zirconia block with limited marginal thicknesses of 0.6 mm and 0.4 mm showed significantly lower fracture resistance values compared to those with the recommended margin thickness of 1.0 mm.

Abstract
The objective was to compare marginal defects and evaluate discoloration for adhesively cemented veneers in vitro when using two cement removal techniques. Twenty premolars were prepared with chamfer and borders in enamel. IPS e.max CAD veneers were cemented using Panavia V5 and divided in two groups (n = 10): cement excess removed with a probe after tack-curing for 3–5 s, or cement excess removed with a brush, then completely polymerized. All teeth were stored in alginate gel until micro-CT examination. Scanning was performed twice: directly after cementation and after thermocycling (5000 cycles, between 5 and 55 °C). To analyze discoloration, teeth were colored using 0.5% basic fuchsine and examined under a stereomicroscope. Depth of dye infiltration was scored 0 (no discoloration) to 5 (discoloration along the entire margin). Statistically significant differences of cement defects before thermocycling were reported, where brushing showed more defects than probing (p = 0.0161). After thermocycling, the defects increased for both groups. Extensive discoloration was the most common (55.56%) when removing excess by probing; by brushing, 90% of the specimens exhibited slight discoloration (p = 0.008). Regression analysis showed no relationship between type of defect and degree of discoloration. Removing cement with a brush causes more marginal defects, however less discoloration after thermocycling.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effect of ceramic thicknesses, bonding surface (enamel vs. dentin), and preparation design (box vs. no box) on the fatigue survival and failure load of minimally invasive full-veneer restorations. MATERIALS AND METHODS Human-premolars (n = 60) were divided into five test groups (n = 12). All teeth received full-veneer preparation with the following occlusal/labial thicknesses: standard: 1.5/0.8 mm; thin: 1.0/0.6 mm; ultrathin 0.5/0.4 mm. Preparations for each ceramic thickness were refined in enamel (E-1.0 and E-0.5) or dentin (D-1.5, D-1.0, and D-0.5). Control groups DB-1.5, EB-1.0, and EB-0.5 received box preparations. Monolithic lithium disilicate restorations (IPS-e.max-Press, Ivoclar Vivadent) were adhesively cemented (Syntac-Classic/Variolink-II, Ivoclar Vivadent) and subjected to cyclic mechanical loading (F = 49 N, 1.2 million cycles) with simultaneous thermocycling (5-55°C). All specimens were exposed to single load-to-failure. Pair-wise differences were calculated by using a linear regression model and Student-Newman-Keuls method (p < 0.05). RESULTS All full-veneers of group D-1.5, E-1.0, E-0.5, DB-1.5, EB-1.0, and EB-0.5 survived fatigue. Two full-veneers (D-1.0 and D-0.5) revealed cracks during fatigue, resulting in an overall fatigue survival rate of 98.1%. Mean load-to-failure values (N) were as followed: 1005 (D-1.5); 866 (D-1.0); 816 (D-0.5); 1495 (E-1.0); 1279 (E-0.5); 1129 (DB-1.5); 1087 (EB-1.0); and 833 (EB-0.5). Irrespective of ceramic thicknesses, enamel-based full-veneers resulted in higher failure loads than dentin-based restorations. Box preparation reduced the failure loads of thin and ultrathin enamel-based restorations. CONCLUSION All tested monolithic lithium disilicate full-veneer restorations exceeded physiological masticatory forces. Minimally invasive full-veneer restorations with enamel as a bonding surface and a non-retentive preparation design showed superior performance. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Enamel-based non-retentive full-veneers made of monolithic lithium disilicate may serve as a reliable and esthetical minimally invasive treatment option for premolars.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the marginal and internal fit of monolithic computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) ZLS (Vita Suprinity) glass ceramic porcelain laminate veneers (PLVs), in terms of marginal and internal gap widths, in comparison to monolithic lithium disilicate (LDS) [IPS e.max CAD] CAD/CAM veneers, and, also, to analyze the effect of incisal preparation designs (butt joint and chamfer), on the marginal and internal fit accuracy. MATERIALS AND METHODS Forty dental stone dies poured from impressions made of two master metal dies with different incisal preparation designs were scanned to produce digital models. Forty ceramic veneers were designed and milled using the virtual models-10 ZLS butt joint, 10 ZLS chamfer, 10 LDS butt joint, and 10 LDS chamfer. The monolithic ceramic veneers produced were then subjected to marginal and internal gap width evaluation using X-ray nano-computed tomography and computerized digital analysis (n = 10). Descriptive analyses of data were performed and the influence of "material" and "preparation design" on the marginal and internal fit of veneers was assessed using 2-way ANOVA (α = 0.05). Bonferroni post-hoc multiple comparison tests were used to further analyze the interactions between the material and preparation design after adjusting the α value by Holm-Bonferroni method (α = 0.01). RESULTS Mean marginal and internal gaps for ZLS PLVs were 65 ±11 μm and 112 ±14 μm for butt joint, and 100 ±24 μm and 100 ±21 μm for chamfer, respectively. Corresponding values for LDS PLVs were 78 ±25 μm and 114 ±17 μm for butt joint, and 104 ±18 μm and 106 ±7 μm for chamfer. Marginal gap and internal gap differences between ZLS and LDS PLVs were not significant (marginal gap: F = 1.786, p = 0.190; internal gap: F = 0.807, p = 0.375). However, the preparation designs (butt joint and chamfer) differed significantly in terms of marginal gaps (F = 23.797, p = 0.000), but not internal gaps (F = 3.703; p = 0.059). CONCLUSIONS Butt joint margins produced better marginal accuracy in terms of marginal gap, compared to chamfers, for ZLS CAD/CAM laminate veneers.

Abstract
This study tested whether three different cement layer thicknesses (60, 120 and 180 μm) would provide the same bonding capacity between adhesively luted lithium disilicate and human dentin. Ceramic blocks were cut to 20 blocks with a low-speed diamond saw under cooling water and were then cemented to human flat dentin with an adhesive protocol. The assembly was sectioned into 1 mm2 cross-section beams composed of ceramic/cement/dentin. Cement layer thickness was measured, and three groups were formed. Half of the samples were immediately tested to evaluate the short-term bond strength and the other half were submitted to an aging simulation. The microtensile test was performed in a universal testing machine, and the bond strength (MPa) was calculated. The fractured specimens were examined under stereomicroscopy. Applying the finite element method, the residual stress of polymerization shrinkage according to cement layer thickness was also calculated using first principal stress as analysis criteria. Kruskal–Wallis tests showed that the ‘‘cement layer thickness’’ factor significantly influenced the bond strength results for the aged samples (p = 0.028); however, no statistically significant difference was found between the immediately tested groups (p = 0.569). The higher the cement layer thickness, the higher the residual stress generated at the adhesive interface due to cement polymerization shrinkage. In conclusion, the cement layer thickness does not affect the immediate bond strength in lithium disilicate restorations; however, thinner cement layers are most stable in the short term, showing constant bond strength and lower residual stress.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: Ceramic veneers represent the most appropriate treatment option for minimally invasive aesthetic rehabilitation. For long-term clinical success, the accurate marginal and internal adaptation of dental restorations are of paramount importance. The aim of this in vitro study is to assess the effect of a novel (patented) design of veneers compared to conventional ones on their marginal and internal gap to the prepared tooth surface. Materials and Methods: Twenty-four lithium disilicate ceramic veneers are obtained using Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) and then milled using Computer-Aided-Manufacturing (CAM). The samples are divided into two groups: 12 conventional (CO) veneers (i.e., with a linear marginal contour) and 12 crenelated (CR) veneers, the latter with the novel sinusoidal marginal design. All samples are bonded to frontal teeth, and the adhesive interfaces are analyzed using two methods, optical microscopy and micro-Computed Tomography (CT): the former for the accuracy of the marginal gap and the latter for the internal gap (as well as for the homogeneity of the luting cement) of ceramic veneers. Results: STATA and one-way ANOVA tests reveal significant differences between CO and CR veneers: (i) the marginal gap is smaller for CR (64 μm) than for CO veneers (236 μm); (ii) the internal adaptation is better for CR veneers: for a cement width of up to 120 μm, the covered surface for the CR group is 81.5%, while for the CO group it is 64.5%; (iii) the mean of the porosities within the cement is not significantly different (3.4·106 μm3 for CO and 3.9·106 μm3 for CR veneers), with a higher standard deviation for the CO group. Analytical modeling is achieved for internal gaps using the micro-CT results. The characteristic functions obtained allow us to compare the volume of luting cement for the two types of veneers. Conclusion: The novel veneers design produces an improvement in the marginal and internal adaptation of the restorations to the prepared tooth surface. Thus, it provides favorable premises for better clinical performances.

Abstract
PURPOSE Under thin, partial coverage restoration the proper cement thickness to be clinically employed still remains an issue. The aim of this study was to determine the failure and success rates of simplified lithium disilicate occlusal veneers as a function of cement thickness. The null hypothesis was that cement thickness has no effect on the fatigue resistance. METHODS Sound human molars were severed in a plane parallel to the occlusal surface to create a flat dentin surface surrounded by enamel edges. Forty-five occlusal veneers 1.0 mm thick (IPS e.max CAD LT) were luted to the teeth with Multilink Automix resin cement, creating 3 experimental groups (n=15) with cement thicknesses of 50, 100, and 200 µm. The restorations were fatigue-cycled using a ball mill machine containing zirconia and stainless steel spheres. Twelve 60 min cycles were performed. Survival statistics were applied to "failure" and "success" events, comparing the three groups using a log-rank Mantel-Cox test and a log-rank test for trends (alpha = 0.05). RESULTS The failure and success rates were not significantly influenced by cement thickness (P = 0.137 and P = 0.872, respectively); thus, the null hypothesis was accepted. However, when log-rank test for trends was applied to failure events, the tendency to have less failures with increasing thicknesses was found statistically significant (P = 0.047). CONCLUSIONS The cement thickness within the range adopted here did not have a significant effect on the failure or success rate of lithium disilicate occlusal veneers when exposed to randomized impact stresses generating fatigue phenomena.

Abstract
This study aimed to assess the effects of a temporary sealing material and cleaning method of resin-coated dentin on the bond strength of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) inlay restorations. Resin-coated dentin surfaces were unsealed or temporarily sealed for 1 h or 1 week. For the temporarily sealed group, a hydraulic temporary sealing material was removed and further divided into four groups: without cleaning, cleaned with a rotational brush, a universal cleaner or an air-polishing device. Some specimens were investigated with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and the others were used for microtensile bond strength (MTBS) test. A sealing material could not be removed with a rotational brush, which resulted in pretest failures in all specimens after 1 h and which resulted in low MTBS after 1 week. An air-polishing device can clean resin-coated dentin temporarily sealed with a hydraulic temporary sealing material and resulted in the similar MTBS as in the unsealed group.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Studies on the fit of heat-pressed anterior lithium disilicate veneers are sparse, and whether fit is affected by glaze firing or ceramic addition is unclear. PURPOSE The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate and compare the marginal fit of heat-pressed anterior lithium disilicate veneers (IPS e.max Press) fabricated with the staining or cutback technique by using 3-dimensional analysis. MATERIAL AND METHODS Two groups of heat-pressed maxillary left central incisor lithium disilicate veneers were fabricated (n=10) differing only in core thickness and the fabrication process. The tooth preparation was standardized at 0.6 mm cervical and middle third and 0.7 mm incisal third, with 1.5 mm of incisal reduction. Group S (staining) was an anatomic contour veneer with 1 glaze firing. Group CB (cutback) had a cutback core of 0.6 mm on the cervical and middle third and 0.5 mm on the incisal areas for ceramic application with 3 firings (wash, incisal, and glaze firing). The amount of ceramic application was standardized, and all veneers had identical final dimensions. Marginal fit was evaluated at 2 stages: after pressing the copings (control) and after glaze firing or ceramic addition using the virtual replica technique and 3-dimensional analysis. The wax copings were invested, eliminated, and pressed with IPS e.max lithium disilicate high translucency ingots, and the overall marginal fit and change in marginal fit after firing were measured in the cervical, mesial, distal, and incisal areas. The Shapiro-Wilk test was used to evaluate normality. Repeated-measures ANOVAs were used to explore differences between the 2 groups (S and CB) as per time (before and after firing) for each location (cervical, mesial, distal, and incisal) (α=.05). RESULTS A statistically significant change in marginal fit after firing was found for the mesial and distal areas of the CB group (P<.05). In all other areas of measurements, no statistically significant differences were found (P>.05). The mean ±standard deviation marginal fit of group S was 63 ±13 μm and 62 ±9 μm for group CB. CONCLUSIONS The results suggest that firing affects the marginal fit of heat-pressed anterior lithium disilicate veneers fabricated with the cutback technique but not for the staining technique.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare the marginal and internal fit of pressed lithium disilicate veneers fabricated from a 3D printed castable wax resin versus a manual waxing technique. MATERIALS AND METHODS A typodont model central incisor was prepared for a porcelain veneer. Following stone model fabrication from a polyvinyl siloxane impression, the model was digitized using a laboratory scanner. Group 1 veneers were designed digitally and 3D printed with a castable wax resin, then pressed. Group 2 veneers were fabricated using a manual wax and press approach. Veneers from both groups were bonded to printed dies. Following measurements of marginal adaptation under a stereo microscope, the dies were sectioned and measurements were made for internal adaption. Statistical analysis included a Kolmogorov test and a Mann-Whitney U test. RESULTS Average marginal gap (μm) for Group 1 was 40.37 ± 11.75 and 50.63 ± 16.99 for Group 2 (p = 0.51). Average internal gap (μm) for Group 1 was 61.21 ± 18.20 and 68.03 ± 14.07 for Group 2 (p = 0.178). CONCLUSION There was no difference in marginal fit or internal fit between pressed lithium disilicate veneers fabricated with a 3D printed castable resin and those fabricated with a manual waxing technique. The use of digital technologies and 3D printing provide significant advantages in the fabrication of pressed glass ceramic veneers, with marginal and internal adaptation comparable to manual wax and press techniques.

Abstract
To investigate and analyze the impact of teeth preparation designs and sintering protocol on marginal fit and fracture resistance of monolithic translucent zirconia laminate veneers. A total of 40 extracted intact human maxillary central incisors were assigned into 4 groups (n=10/each group) to investigate 2 variables: (1) the design of tooth preparation (a 1.5 mm incisal reduction with or without palatal chamfer) and (2) the two different sintering programs used for translucent zirconia restoration (standard or speed sintering procedure). Marginal discrepancy was evaluated using a digital microscope. The specimens were loaded to failure in the compression mode, using a universal testing machine with a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. Marginal adaptation of monolithic translucent zirconia laminates are affected by both tooth preparation design and sintering protocol. However, resistance to fracture of translucent zirconia laminates has affected mainly by sintering procedure regardless the teeth preparation design used.

Abstract
The pigmentation of the resin cement at the tooth/ceramic interface compromises the esthetic and longevity of ultra-thin ceramic veneers. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate marginal staining of ultra-thin ceramic veneers cemented to intact enamel (non-prepared) and prepared enamel. Methods: Thirty-two (32) permanent central incisors were selected and randomly divided into two groups: intact enamel (IE) and prepared enamel (PE). The ceramic veneers of PE group were bonded to the prepared enamel and the ceramic veneers of IE group were cemented directly onto the intact enamel, with no preparation. Both preparation and cementation were standardized and performed by a single operator. Each group was subdivided into two subgroups (n = 8) with different immersion media - coffee and water. After an immersion period of 10 days, stereomicroscope images were made at 20X magnification of the mesial, distal, cervical and incisal surface of each specimen. Three blinded, trained and calibrated examiners evaluated the images of the resin cement interface of each surface. The data were subjected to Kruskal‑Wallis and Mann‑Whitney statistical analysis. Immersion media and enamel preparation influenced the marginal staining of the tooth/ceramic interface. Results: When immersed in coffee, prepared interfaces presented greater marginal staining than unprepared interfaces. When immersed in water, there was no statistically significant difference between the groups. Conclusion: The cementation of ultra-thin ceramic veneers onto intact enamel is associated with less marginal staining and, consequently, improved esthetics.

Abstract
Introduction Ceramic laminates are restorations that are bonded using adhesive techniques, which provide for the treatment of the prepared dental elements according to well-defined steps. Adhesive cementation guarantees high predictability and esthetics. Orthodontic treatment is the first choice in patients with a dental misalignment. Patients who have dental element color and shape issues will undergo restorative treatment following orthodontics. Case Report. This clinical report describes a case treated with an interdisciplinary approach (orthodontic and prosthetic) of a patient who presented with diastemas, inversion of dental axes, small clinical crowns, and chromatic imperfections in the anterior maxillary teeth. The esthetic expectations of the patient for the anterior portion of the maxillary anterior teeth have been successfully achieved through orthodontic treatment and the realization of ceramic veneers. An accurate interdisciplinary evaluation of the treatment was necessary for a satisfactory result in the anterior maxillary teeth esthetically compromised in several aspects. Discussion. The modern materials used with the strict protocol of the adhesive procedures allow a minimally invasive, highly esthetic approach with an excellent long-term prognosis. The restorations must reproduce the physiological characteristics of the natural teeth aiming at an excellent biological, biomechanical, functional, and esthetic integration. Many adult patients come to visit with a combination of problems; the esthetic rehabilitation of these cases requires the evaluation of the quantity of gingival exposure, of the gingival architecture, of the size of the clinical crowns, and of the dental position. The ideal treatment of these cases involves an interdisciplinary approach. Prosthodontists, periodontists, orthodontists, and dental technicians must work together because the understanding of the various phases of treatment is fundamental to achieve the desired clinical result. Conclusion The coordinated treatment of the orthodontist, periodontist, and prosthodontist, with careful consideration of the expectations and requests of patients, was fundamental for the success and satisfaction of the patient.

Abstract
Objectives: Internal fit of implant frameworks is an important factor determining the long-term success of dental implant restorations. This in-vitro study aimed to evaluate dimensional changes of implant-supported zirconia frameworks fabricated by two computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) systems from scanning to sintering. Materials and Methods: A master model of a three-unit fixed partial denture was fabricated with two implant abutments. In each CAD/CAM system (AmannGirrbach and Zirkonzahn), the master model was scanned 12 times, and data were saved as Standard Transformation Language files (scanning groups). Using semi-sintered zirconia, 12 real-size frameworks (milling groups) and 12 enlarged frameworks, were sintered (sintering groups) and made by each system. Dimensions of the master model and frameworks in each phase were measured. Dimensional changes (compared to the master model) were calculated. Data were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance, independent t-test, and paired sample t-test (α=0.05). Results: Comparison of the two systems revealed that although dimensional changes were greater in the milling phase of Zirkonzahn, they were larger in the sintering phase of the AmannGirrbach system. Evaluation of fabrication phases revealed greater dimensional changes in the milling phase compared to the other phases in the Zirkonzahn system (P<0.05). However, in the AmannGirrbach system, the values were not significantly different between milling and sintering phases (P>0.05). Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, the results showed that fabrication phases, CAD/CAM system type and abutment size had significant effects on dimensional changes.

Abstract
In cases where malocclusion is associated with intrinsic discoloration and/or discrepancies in tooth size and shape, such as peg-shaped laterals, orthodontics alone may not improve the aesthetics. In these situations, veneers may be considered as an adjunct to orthodontic treatment to improve the overall aesthetics. The aim of this study is to report a clinical case where an uneven occlusal plane was corrected, and the positioning of gingival zeniths, color, shape, and size of the dental elements involved were improved by means of gingivectomy and rehabilitation with 10 ceramic laminate veneers. It was possible to conclude that multidisciplinary treatment, when properly planned and indicated, respecting the limits and established techniques of periodontics, prosthesis, and dentistry, makes small occlusal leveling predictable and possible through these tools.

Abstract
Background The required pretreatment of CAD/CAM ceramic materials before resin composite cement application varies among studies. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of hydrofluoric acid concentration and etching time on the shear bond strength (SBS) of two adhesive and two self-adhesive resin composite cements to different CAD/CAM ceramic materials. Methods SBS of two adhesive (Panavia V5, Kuraray, [PV5]; Vita Adiva F-Cem, Vita Zahnfabrik, [VAF]) and two self-adhesive (RelyX Unicem 2 Automix, 3 M Espe, [RUN]; Vita Adiva S-Cem, Vita, [VAS]) cements to four different CAD/CAM materials (Vitablocs Mark II, Vita, [VM]; Vita Enamic, Vita, [VE]; e.max CAD, Ivoclar Vivadent, [EC]; Vita Suprinity PC, Vita, [VS]) was measured. The effect of the surface pretreatment by using two different hydrofluoric acid products (HF5% Vita Ceramics Etch, Vita and HF9% buffered, Ultradent Porcelain Etch, Ultradent Products) were assessed at etching times of 0 s, 5 s, 15 s, 30s and 60s for each cement and restorative material combination (n = 10 per group, total n = 1440). Results Significant effects were found for the etching time and cement for all materials with highest shear bond strength for etching times of 60s = 30s = 15 s ≥ 5 s > 0 s and for RUN>PV5 = VAF > VAS (p < 0.05). Etching with HF5% for 5 s to 15 s resulted in higher SBS values, while no differences were observed between HF5% and HF9% buffered when the substrates were etched for 30s to 60s (p < 0.05). Conclusions Within the limitations of this study the recommended surface pretreatment of silicate ceramics is HF etching with concentrations of 5% or 9% for 15 s to 60s to achieve highest shear bond strength while the glassy matrix is sufficiently dissolved. The tested resin composite cements can be applied with all tested materials and suggested for clinical application.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the long-term clinical performance and survival rate of pressable lithium-disilicate glass-ceramic veneers (LDSVs). MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 413 LDSVs were bonded to anterior and posterior teeth by three experienced clinicians between 1998 and 2012. The LDSVs were examined for color/ esthetic match of the glass-ceramic surface (esthetic evaluation), fracture rate, marginal discoloration (staining of the luting cement), and marginal integrity (including caries, clinical evaluation). For clinical and esthetic evaluations, the modified United States Public Health Services (USPHS) score was used in this study. The success rate was determined with a Kaplan-Meier survival analysis. RESULTS The mean observation time was 11.33 ± 4.85 years. There was no loss to follow-up, all restorations were accounted for in the final analysis. The probability of survival of the 413 veneers was 98% after 5 years, 95% at 10 years, 91% at 15, and 87% at 20 years, indicating a very low clinical failure rate. Of the 413 restorations, complications were occurred in 15 (3.63%) of all restorations, and fractures and debonding in 6 (1.45%) and 9 (2.18%), respectively. CONCLUSIONS The LDSVs showed high survival rate and very good results for color match and anatomic form and marginal integrity in the long-term analysis. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The long-term performance of LDSVs can be considered as highly favorable when carefully planned.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM The marginal and internal adaptations of porcelain laminate veneers (PLVs) are key elements in their long-term success. However, the marginal and internal fit obtained with a pressable material compared with computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) needs further investigation as does the choice of cement used. PURPOSE The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the marginal and internal fit of PLVs fabricated using pressing and CAD-CAM milling and cemented using 2 types of composite resin cement. MATERIAL AND METHODS Twenty PLVs were fabricated from VITA PM9 pressable material, and 20 veneers were milled using VITA Blocs Mark II. Veneers were cemented to composite resin dies using either RelyX Veneer cement or Variolink-N cement. Specimens were embedded in clear resin and sectioned incisogingivally and mesiodistally. Marginal discrepancy at the incisal and cervical positions and the internal gap at 6 different locations were evaluated by using a scanning electron microscope. Two-way ANOVA followed by Tukey multiple comparisons were used to examine difference among groups (α=.05). RESULTS The cement and fabrication methods did not show any significant effect for absolute marginal gap (AMG) at the incisal edge, AMG at the cervical margin or marginal gap at the incisal edge. However, both had a significant effect on marginal gap at the cervical margin (P=.038 for the fabrication method and P=.050 for the cement used). Also, both cement and fabrication methods had a significant effect on internal gap average (P<.001). The lowest gap values were reported for veneers fabricated from VITA PM9 by using the press technique and cemented with RelyX Veneer cement. When the position of gap measurements was taken into consideration, it was the only significant factor (P<.001 for the effect of position on AMG and P<.001 for the effect of position on marginal gap). Gaps at the cervical position were significantly lower than gaps at the incisal position. CONCLUSIONS Smaller marginal and internal discrepancies were recorded for PLVs fabricated by using the pressing technique and cemented using RelyX Veneer cement compared with milled veneers and Variolink-N cement. Larger discrepancies were present incisally than cervically.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the marginal discrepancy of heat-pressed ceramic veneers manufactured using a CAD/CAM system. MATERIALS AND METHODS The ceramic veneers for the abutment of a maxillary left central incisor were designed using a CAD/CAM software program. Ten veneers using a micro-stereolithography apparatus (AM group), ten veneers using a five-axis milling machine (SM group), and ten veneers using a traditional free-hand wax technique (TW group) were prepared according to the respective manufacturing method. The ceramic veneers were also fabricated using a heat-press technique, and a silicone replica was used to measure their marginal discrepancy. The marginal discrepancies were measured using a digital microscope (×160 magnification). The data were analyzed using a nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis H test. Finally, post-hoc comparisons were conducted using Bonferroni-corrected Mann-Whitney U tests (α=.05). RESULTS The mean±SD of the total marginal discrepancy was 99.68±28.01 µm for the AM group, 76.60±28.76 µm for the SM group, and 83.08±39.74 µm for the TW group. There were significant differences in the total marginal discrepancies of the ceramic veneers (P<.05). CONCLUSION The SM group showed a better fit than the AM and TW groups. However, all values were within the clinical tolerance. Therefore, CAD/CAM manufacturing methods can replace the traditional free-hand wax technique.

Abstract
This study investigated the effect of preparation design on the marginal and internal adaptation of laminate veneers (LVs) fabricated from translucent zirconia. Thirty-three resin teeth were prepared for LVs of three designs: window preparation (WP); incisal shoulder preparation (ISP); and incisal palatal chamfer preparation (IPP). Marginal adaptation was evaluated by measuring the vertical discrepancy between the LV margin and the finish line at 60 points. The internal adaptation was assessed by measuring the internal space width as the distance between the LV and the tooth at cervical, central, and incisal sites after sectioning. At the incisal, mesial, and distal sites, mean marginal discrepancies were significantly lower in the WP group than in the other two groups; the IPP group had the highest marginal discrepancies. At incisal sites, the median internal space was significantly higher in the IPP group than in the WP and ISP groups and higher in the ISP group than in the WP group. At the incisal site, marginal and internal adaptations were better for the non-overlap translucent zirconia LV design (WP) than for the overlap designs (ISP and IPP). The characteristics of the translucent zirconia LVs used in the present study indicate acceptable clinical performance.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Limited information is available regarding the mechanical properties of a partial removable dental prosthesis clasp fabricated by direct metal laser sintering (DMLS). PURPOSE The purpose of this in vitro study was to measure the mechanical properties of cast clasps, DMLS clasps, and annealed DMLS clasps and to determine the correlation between cyclic bend loading, annealing, and mechanical properties. MATERIAL AND METHODS Sixty half round clasp specimens were fabricated, with a length of 20 mm and a diameter of 1.5 mm at 10 mm from the tip. The specimens were divided into 6 groups (n=10). Twenty specimens were fabricated by casting (CS, CSAC), and 40 specimens were fabricated by DMLS (DS, DSAC, ADS, ADSAC). Of the DMLS specimens, 20 underwent annealing (ADS, ADSAC). Equivalent to 5 years of clinical use, 0.25 mm of bending was applied to group CSAC, DSAC, and ADSAC 14 600 times. After cyclic bending loads, a cantilever bend test was conducted on all groups, and the loads were measured. To compare the load values, 1-way ANOVA and the Tukey HSD test were performed and statistical significance among the groups was evaluated (α=.05). Scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive spectroscopy analyses were also used for surface morphology evaluation and element analysis. RESULTS Bending loads of the DMLS specimens were significantly lower than those of the cast specimens (P<.05). The influence of cyclic bending loads was significant for cast specimens (P<.05), but not for DMLS specimens (P>.05), in terms of variation of loads. Annealed DMLS specimens had significantly higher bending loads than DMLS specimens (P<.05). CONCLUSIONS The DMLS specimens had lower load values at 0.25 mm bending than cast specimens. The DMLS specimens were less influenced by cyclic bending loads than the cast specimens. Annealing increased load values of the DMLS specimens at 0.25 mm bending.

Abstract
Objetivos: O objetivo neste estudo foi avaliar a resistência da união ao microcisalhamento de uma resina composta microhíbrida de baixa viscosidade (fluida) e de um cimento resinoso fotopolimerizável aplicados a uma cerâmica de dissilicato de lítio. Métodos: Discos de uma cerâmica de dissilicato de lítio (IPS e.max CAD, Ivoclar Vivadent) foram divididos em 2 grupos (n = 10), de acordo com material utilizado para a cimentação: cimento resinoso (Allcem Veneer, FGM) ou resina composta microhíbrida fluida (Opallis Fluida, FGM). Previamente a aplicação do material para cimentação, todas as cerâmicas receberam tratamento superficial padronizado: condicionamento com ácido fluorídrico a 10% (Condac Porcelana, FGM) por 20 s, lavagem com água por 60 s, secagem com ar por 30s e aplicação de silano (Prosil, FGM). Os materiais foram inseridos em uma matriz elastomérica (0,5 mm x 1,2 mm) sobre o bloco cerâmico. Quatro cilindros por grupo foram construídos e fotoativados por um aparelho de diodo emissor de luz (LED, Valo, Ultradent) por 40 s a uma irradiância de 1200 mW/cm2. O teste de microcisalhamento foi feito utilizando uma máquina de ensaio universal (EMIC) a uma velocidade de 0,5 mm/min. Os dados (MPa) foram submetidos ao teste de normalidade (Kolmogorov-Smirnov) e one-way ANOVA, sendo as médias comparadas pelo teste de Tukey (α=0,05). Resultados: O cimento resinoso apresentou resistência da união ao microcisalhamento estatisticamente superior à resina composta fluida (ρ=0,020). Conclusão: Melhor desempenho na união à cerâmica de dissilicato de lítio foi obtido utilizando cimento resinoso.

Abstract
PURPOSE To compare marginal and internal adaptations of porcelain laminate veneers fabricated with heat-pressed and CAD/CAM techniques, and to evaluate the clinical performances 2 years after cementation. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty heat-pressed and 31 CAD/CAM porcelain laminate veneers were fabricated for 12 patients. Silicone replicas of each veneer were obtained. Replicas were sectioned into 4 parts to measure adaptations of the veneers. A stereomicroscope was used to measure from 3 locations of replicas for marginal, and 9 locations for internal adaptations at 40x magnification. Clinical evaluations were done at baseline and 6, 12, 18, and 24 months after cementation according to the modified United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria. Independent samples t-test compared the adaptation values between heat-pressed and CAD/CAM groups. Paired t-test was used to evaluate marginal and internal adaptations of each group. Differences between the modified USPHS criteria ratings of heat-pressed and CAD/CAM groups were determined by the Mann-Whitney U test. Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to analyze the survival ratings of the veneers (p < 0.05). RESULTS The mean marginal adaptation values of heat-pressed and CAD/CAM veneers were 295 and 314.98 μm, respectively, and there was no statistically significant difference (p = 0.541). Internal adaptation values of groups were not statistically different either (201.82 μm for heat pressed; 195.47 μm for CAD/CAM p = 0.734). When marginal and internal adaptation values were compared within groups, there were significant differences both for heat-pressed (p < 0.001) and CAD/CAM (p < 0.001). All veneers were rated 100% satisfactory during the 2-year period. CONCLUSION Within the limitations of this study, fabrication method, whether CAD/CAM or heat-pressed, had no effect on the marginal and internal adaptation of porcelain laminate veneers. The results showed that both fabrication techniques performed well after 2 years of clinical performance.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of different concentrations of hydrofluoric acid (HF) associated with varied etching times on the microshear bond strength (μSBS) of a resin cement to a lithium disilicate glass ceramic. Two hundred seventy-five ceramic blocks (IPS e.max Press [EMX], Ivoclar Vivadent), measuring 8 mm × 3 mm thickness, were randomly distributed into five groups according to the HF concentrations (n=50): 1%, 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, and 10%. Further random distribution into subgroups was performed according to the following etching times (n=10): 20, 40, 60, 120, and 20 + 20 seconds. After etching, all blocks were treated with a silane coupling agent followed by a thin layer of an unfilled resin. Three resin cement cylinders (∅=1 mm) were made on each EMX surface, which was then stored in deionized water at 37°C for 24 hours before testing. The μSBS was in a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min until failure. Data were submitted to two-way analysis of variance, and multiple comparisons were performed using the Tukey post hoc test (α=0.05). One representative EMX sample was etched according to the description of each subgroup and evaluated using scanning electron microscopy for surface characterization. The HF concentrations of 5%, 7.5%, and 10% provided significantly higher μSBS values than 1% and 2.5% (p<0.05), regardless of the etching times. For 1% and 2.5% HF, the etching times from 40 to 120 seconds increased the μSBS values compared with 20 seconds (p<0.05), but etching periods did not differ within the 5%, 7.5%, and 10% HF groups (p>0.05). The effect of re-etching was more evident for 1% and 2.5% HF (p<0.05). Different HF concentrations/etching times directly influenced the bond strength and surface morphology of EMX.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to compare the fracture resistance of Co-Cr post-cores fabricated with 3 different techniques: traditional casting (TC), computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) milling (CCM) and direct metal laser sintering (DMLS). METHODS Forty intact human mandibular premolar were endodontically treated. The roots were then randomly divided into four groups according to the post systems: the control group was only filled with gutta percha. Co-Cr metal posts were fabricated with TC, CCM and DMLS in the other three groups. The posts were luted with a resin cement and subjected to compression test at a crosshead speed of 1mm/min. The statistical analysis of the data was performed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and multiple comparison post hoc Tukey tests (α=.05). The samples were examined under a stereomicroscope with ×20 magnification for the evaluation of the fracture types. RESULTS The mean fracture loads were 432.69 N for control, 608.89 N for TC, 689.40 N for DMLS and 959.26 N for CCM. One-way ANOVA revealed significant difference between the groups (p<0.01). In the post hoc Tukey test, there were significant differences between groups except DMLS and TC. CONCLUSION While Co-Cr posts fabricated by TC and DMLS systems performed similarly in terms of fracture resistance, posts fabricated by CCM techniques showed higher fracture resistance values. SIGNIFICANCE Co-Cr metal posts fabricated by CCM and DMLS could be an alternative to TC processing in daily clinical application.
