Abstract
OBJECTIVES This in vitro study evaluated the effect of different colouring solutions and primer systems used in the bonding of brackets on enamel colour change and bond strength. MATERIALS AND METHODS 120 premolar teeth were divided into four main groups; brackets were bonded with 37% orthophosphoric acid + Transbond XT Primer in Group 1, 3 M Single Bond Universal in Group 2, Transbond Plus SEP in Group 3, and G-Premio Bond in Group 4. Each group was divided into three subgroups, and the teeth were placed in a cup containing coffee and tea mixture, in a cup containing cola and in distilled water. A bond strength test was applied to all teeth. Colour measurements of all teeth were performed at 2 different times: before bonding and after the bond strength test. RESULTS The average bond strength of the 37% orthophosphoric acid group was higher than that of the other groups. The effect of primer and solution groups on colour change was statistically significant (p = 0.001 and p = 0.023, respectively). CONCLUSIONS In this study, the bond strength was clinically sufficient in all primer groups. The highest colour change was observed when the tea-coffee solution and Transbond Plus SEP primer were used. CLINICAL RELEVANCE This study has identified enamel discoloration and bond strength from different colouring solutions and primer systems used for bonding braces, which can be used to inform clinicians and patients to achieve better treatment results.

Abstract
(1) Background: The objective of this in vitro study was to evaluate the impact of different etching times and ethanol pre-treatments on the immediate bond strength of a hydrophilic multi-mode universal adhesive (Clearfil Universal Bond Quick, Kuraray, UBQ) and on the consequent gelatinolytic activity of metalloproteinases (MMPs) on radicular dentin. (2) Methods: Sixty single-root teeth were selected and divided into four groups according to the adhesive protocol applied for fiber post cementation: (G1) 15 s H3PO4 application + UBQ; (G2) 30 s H3PO4 application + UBQ; (G3) 15 s H3PO4 application + ethanol pre-treatment + UBQ; (G4) 30 s H3PO4 + ethanol pre-treatment + UBQ. After adhesive procedures, fiber posts were luted into the post space with a dual-curing cement (DC Core, Kuraray) and light-cured for 40 s. To perform the push-out test and nanoleakage analyses for both coronal end apical areas, 1 mm slices were prepared, following a 24 h storage period in artificial saliva. Additionally, an in situ zymographic assay was conducted to explore endogenous MMP activity within the radicular layer. Results were statistically analyzed with ANOVA and Tukey post hoc tests. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. (3) Result: ANOVA revealed a statistically significant difference in push-out bond strength related to the pre-treatment variable but did not highlight any significance of etching time. Specimens pre-treated with ethanol wet bond application showed higher bond strength (p < 0.01). In situ zymography quantification analyses revealed that all tested groups, independently of etching time end ethanol pre-treatment, activated MMP gelatinolytic activity. A significant increase in MMP activity was detected for the 30 s etching time. However, ETOH pre-treatment significantly reduced MMP activity within the adhesive interface (p < 0.01). (4) Conclusions: The tested adhesive showed similar results regardless of the etching time protocol. The gelatinolytic activity of MMPs was observed in all the groups. Further investigations and extended follow-ups are required to validate the results of the present study in vivo.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to evaluate microtensile bond strength (µTBS) and ultra-morphological characteristic changes in sound dentin resulting from silver diamine fluoride (SDF) when using adhesives. METHODS Ninety-six extracted human third molars were divided into the SDF-contaminated dentin group and the sound dentin group. In the SDF-contaminated dentin group, 38% SDF was agitated for 1 min, left undisturbed for 2 min, and rinsed with distilled water for 30 s. Then, each group was further subdivided into six subgroups (n = 8 / group) according to application modes: self-etch mode (SE) and etch-and-rinse mode (ER) followed by three adhesives: (1) Scothbond Universal Plus Adhesive (SUP); (2) G2-Bond Universal Adhesive (G2B); and (3) Clearfil Mega Bond 2 (MB2). All specimens were restored with resin composite and were stored in distilled water for 24 h before μTBS testing. Data from the μTBS test were analyzed using Three-way ANOVA and Duncan test (p < 0.05). The morphology of fractured surface and adhesive-dentin interfaces were evaluated by SEM, TEM, and STEM. Further elemental analysis was done by EDX. RESULTS All SDF-contaminated dentin groups demonstrated significantly lower μTBS than sound dentin groups. All ER groups had higher μTBS than SE groups, except for G2B in the sound dentin group. STEM/EDX revealed an SDF-dentin-reacted layer in the SDF-contaminated dentin group. SIGNIFICANCE SDF had an adverse effect on adhesives. Additionally, ER mode is preferable when bonded to SDF-contaminated dentin. A calcium and fluoride-contained layer was observed in all SDF-contaminated dentin.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to evaluate the adhesive properties in dentine after the application of silver diamine fluoride (SDF) on carious dentine lesions immediately and after 2 years of water storage. METHODS 96 human molars used were subjected to artificial dentine caries production, and then randomly divided into 12 experimental groups according to 1. application of an SDF solution (carious dentine lesion without SDF treatment [control], with 12 % silver diamine fluoride [SDF 12 %] or 38 % silver diamine fluoride [SDF 38 %]); 2. Universal adhesives (Clearfil Universal Bond Quick [CUQ] and Single Bond Universal [SBU]); 3. adhesive strategy (etch-and-rinse [ER] and self-etch [SE]). After restoration, the specimens were sectioned and submitted to the microtensile bond strength test (μTBS) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry analysis (SEM/EDX). All tests were performed immediately and after 2 years of water storage. Data from the μTBS were analyzed using four-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (α = 0.05). RESULTS Only the interaction of factors 'SDF' vs 'time' was significant (p = 0.03). After 2 years of storage, the groups where SDF was applied showed higher μTBS values compared to the control group. No significant decrease in μTBS values was observed for SBU when comparing immediate and 2-year results, but a significant reduction in μTBS values was observed after 2 years for CUQ. CONCLUSION Independent of the adhesive strategy, the use of SDF may be a promising alternative to maintain the bonding of universal adhesives to carious dentinal lesions. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE This study may clarify and support clinicians regarding the longevity of resin-based restoration in caries-affected dentine treated with silver diamine fluoride.

Abstract
AIM The purpose of this study was to evaluate the 18-month retrospective study of self-etch adhesive (Prime&Bond One Select) and self-etch mode of universal adhesives (Single Bond Universal, Gluma Bond Universal) applied to non-carious cervical lesions according to the World Dental Federation criteria. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty patients without any systemic disease, good oral hygiene, having at least 20 teeth and six non-carious cervical lesions treated using a self-etch mode of adhesives operated between January and March 2017. Accordingly, 335 restorations were evaluated according to the World Dental Federation criteria at 3, 6, 12 and 18 months. Pillai's Trace test was used to determine the interaction of criteria with time and adhesive systems. IBM SPSS Statistics 21.0 program was used in the analysis. Value of P < 0.05 was accepted as a criterion for statistical significance. RESULTS At the end of 18 months, participation was 100%. There was a statistically significant difference P < 0.05 between Prime&Bond One Select and Single Bond Universal, Prime&Bond One Select and Gluma Bond Universal in the 18-month period. In terms of marginal staining, fracture of material and retention, recurrence of caries, erosion and abfraction, tooth integrity criteria at the end of the 18 months, Prime&Bond One Select performed clinically very good, Single Bond Universal and Gluma Bond Universal performed clinically good according to World Dental Federation criteria. Marginal adaptation criteria, Prime&Bond One Select, Single Bond Universal and Gluma Bond Universal performed clinically good. Retention loss rate was found to be the lowest in Prime&Bond One Select and the highest in Gluma Bond Universal. CONCLUSION Accordingly, 18-month evaluation of all adhesives used in the study showed clinically acceptable results in all of the World Dental Federation criteria.

Abstract
The objective of the study was the impact of universal adhesives on color coordinates and color change of single-shade resin composites compared with a multi-shade composite after thermocycling. Five resin composites (Filtek Z250, Omnichroma, Vittra APS Unique, Zenchroma, and Charisma Diamond One) were used. The composites were randomly divided into three subgroups: two universal adhesive groups (Single Bond and Gluma Bond) and one control group (n=10). Color measurements were performed initially and after 10,000 thermocycling. Color change (ΔE00) values were calculated using the CIEDE2000 formula. The two-way variance analysis was used (p<0.05). The lowest and highest ΔE00 were exhibited in the Filtek Z250 and Charisma Diamond One (p<0.001, p<0.001, respectively). The highest ΔE00 was exhibited in the Gluma Bond (p<0.001). An adhesive system may adversely affect the color change of resin composite materials. L and a values of resin composites decreased, and the b values increased after thermocycling.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effect of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) on the microtensile bond strength (µTBS) and nanoleakage (NL) of universal adhesives on eroded dentine, immediately and after four years of water storage. METHODS Sixty-four sound human molars were distributed into 16 groups according to (1) Dentine surface (sound and eroded dentine); (2) dimethyl sulfoxide application (with or without); (3) Application mode (etch-and-rinse or self-etch) and (4) Storage time (immediate and four years). One mild universal adhesive was used (Scotchbond Universal). The restoration was then performed with a composite resin and the specimens were sectioned into resin-dentine bonded sticks. Resin-dentine bonded sticks were tested (immediately and after four years of water storage) for µTBS (0.5 mm/min) or used to assess NL. Data on μTBS and NL were analyzed using four-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (α = 0.05). RESULTS Only the 3-way cross-product interaction 'substrate vs DMSO vs time' was statistically significant (p = 0.007). Eroded dentine showed a lower mean of µTBS and a higher mean of NL values than sound dentine. However, when DMSO was applied, no significant decrease of μTBS or NL values was observed after four years of water storage, regardless of adhesive strategies, or dentine evaluated, when compared to immediate results. SIGNIFICANCE Water-based DMSO pre-treatments not only prevent degradation of MDP-containing simplified adhesives but also serve as a potential alternative to improve long-term bonding properties to eroded dentine. The versatility of using a single pre-treatment for both self-etch or etch-and-rinse bonding to eroded dentin may facilitate future clinical applications.

OBJECTIVES To evaluate the microtensile bond strength (µTBS) and nanoleakage (NL) of several universal adhesives to eroded dentine (ED) using etch-and-rinse (ER) and self-etch (SE) strategies, immediately and after 6 years of water storage. MATERIAL AND METHODS Four hundred and eighty human molars were distributed into 60 groups according to dentine substrate (sound dentine [SD], eroded with soft drink, or eroded with citric acid), application method of the adhesive (SE or ER), and the adhesives used: 1. All-Bond Universal, 2. Ambar Universal, 3. Clearfil Universal, 4. Futurabond U, 5. One Coat 7 Universal, 6. Peak Universal Bond, 7. Prime&Bond Elect, 8. Scotchbond Universal, 9. Tetric n-bond Universal, and 10. Xeno Select. The restoration was then performed with a composite resin, and the specimens were sectioned into resin-dentine bonded sticks. The sticks were tested (immediately or after 6 years of storage) for µTBS (0.5 mm/min) or used to assess NL. The eroded dentine surfaces were also examined using FE-SEM to evaluate the NL. Data for µTBS were analyzed by four-way ANOVA and Tukey's post-hoc test (a = 0.05), and the NL was analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Sum test (a = 0.05). RESULTS In ED, there was no difference in μTBS and NL between ER and SE strategies (p > 0.05). Most μTBS and NL values obtained for ED were lower and higher, respectively, than those for SD (p < 0.005). Additionally, the worst results (μTBS and NL) were observed for erosion with citric acid groups in comparison with erosion with soft-drink groups (p < 0.007). After 6y, μTBS was generally lower and NL higher for all substrates, adhesives, and strategies (p < 0.05), except for AMB, SBU, and TEU in dentine eroded with citric acid. The lowest μTBS and highest NL values were observed for ABU, FBU, OCU, PUB, PBE, and XEN in both types of eroded dentine and evaluation times (p < 0.002). CONCLUSION The use of MDP-containing adhesives seems to be essential to maintain adhesion to eroded dentine. However, other factors such as acidity should be considered. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The bonding of eroded dentine is a challenge. However, the use of MDP-containing universal adhesives showed less degradation after long-term evaluation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aims to evaluate the effects of exposure time and irradiance on the dentin bonding properties (microtensile bond strength (μTBS) and nanoleakage (NL)) of the Clearfil Universal Bond Quick (CUQ) adhesive and Scotchbond Universal Adhesive (SBU) immediately and after 2 years of water storage. MATERIAL AND METHODS Hence, 128 human molars were randomly assigned to 16 groups based on adhesive strategy, irradiance/exposure times, and storage time for each universal adhesive tested. The adhesives were applied using the etch-and-rinse and self-etch strategies and were light-cured using four different irradiance/exposure times: 1400 mW/cm2 for 5 s (1400 × 5), 1400 mW/cm2 for 10 s (1400 × 10), 3200 mW/cm2 for 5 s (3200 × 5), and 3200 mW/cm2 for 10 s (3200 × 10). Then, each sample was restored and sectioned into a resin-dentin bonded stick to be tested for μTBS and NL (immediately and after 2 years of water storage). The mean μTBS and NL of all resin-dentin bonded sticks from the same hemi-tooth (factor time) were statistically analyzed using a three-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (a = 0.05). RESULTS Despite a significant decrease in the μTBS values for all groups after 2 years of water storage, the 3200 × 5 group showed higher μTBS values, whereas the 3200 × 10 group showed lower μTBS values for both universal adhesives tested. Although a significant increase in the NL values was observed for all groups after 2 years of water storage, the 3200 × 10 group showed higher NL values than the other groups (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION Results indicate that light-curing the adhesive layer with 14-16 J/cm2 led to an improvement in the stability of the resin-dentin adhesive interface. A longer exposure time (10 s) coupled with a higher irradiance (3200 mW/cm2) resulted in a greater degree of degradation of the adhesive interface. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE To guarantee better stability of the adhesive interface, clinicians could be preferred a light-cured universal adhesive layer with 14-16 J/cm2. Higher irradiances should be avoided.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the absence of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) on the adhesive properties with enamel and dentin of universal adhesive systems containing 10-methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (MDP). METHODS AND MATERIALS One hundred and twelve caries-free third molars were used to test adhesion to dentin (n=64) and enamel (n=48). For each substrate, teeth were divided into eight experimental groups: four different adhesives each using two adhesive strategies. The adhesives used were: (1) Scotchbond Universal (SBU, 3M Oral Care, St Paul, MN, USA) as a HEMA-containing universal adhesive; (2) Gluma Bond Universal (GBU, Kulzer, Hanau, Germany); (3) Solare Universal Bond (SUB, GC, Tokyo, Japan); and (4) Zipbond Universal (ZIP, SDI, Victoria, Australia) as HEMA-free universal adhesives. The adhesive strategies used were etch-and-rinse (ER) and self-etch (SE). For dentin tests, the occlusal third of the crown of all teeth was removed and an adhesive protocol was applied. After completing the restoration, specimens were sectioned into bonded sticks (0.8 mm 2) and tested for microtensile bond strength (μTBS), in situ degree of conversion (DC), and nanoleakage (NL) by scanning electron microscopy. For enamel tests, teeth were sectioned into four parts (buccal, lingual, and proximal), and an adhesive protocol was applied. After completing the restoration, the specimens were tested for their microshear bond strength (μSBS). For in situ degree of conversion (DC) and nanoleakage (NL) evaluation of enamel, the specimens were sectioned in slices to be evaluated. The data for each substrate were subjected to two-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (α=0.05) for each property evaluated. RESULTS The SBU and ZIP adhesives showed the highest μSBS, and DC (dentin and enamel) and lower NL (dentin) values compared to GBU and SUB (p=0.001). However, SBU showed better results in terms of μTBS and μSBS (SE strategy), and DC (dentin and enamel) than ZIP. Strategy ER presented higher values of μTBS and μSBS when compared to strategy SE (p=0.001), except for SBU. CONCLUSION The effect of the absence of HEMA in commercial universal adhesive systems on enamel and dentin adhesive properties appears to be material-dependent.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different matrix metalloproteinase inhibitors (MMPIs) on the microtensile bond strength (μTBS) and nanoleakage of universal adhesives. One hundred twenty non-carious human molars were prepared and randomly assigned to two groups: Scotchbond Bond Universal (SBU) and Gluma Bond Universal (GBU). The samples in each group were assigned to five subgroups (n=12) based on one control (water) and four MMPIs (Benzalkonium-chloride (BAC), Batimastat (BB94), Chlorhexidine (CHX), and Epigallocatechin-gallate (EGCG)). Each adhesive was applied in self-etch (SE) mode or etch-and-rinse (ER) mode. Dentin/composite sticks were fabricated and subjected to the μTBS test after 24 h or 6 months. At 6 months, MMPIs did not affect the μTBS of the adhesives, regardless of etching mode. Nanoleakage was more pronounced in ER mode than in SE mode for all subgroups. All MMPIs, with the exception of CHX, decreased the nanoleakage of GBU in ER mode.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to comparatively evaluate microshear bond strength (μSBS) of bioactive ionic resin composite and resin-modified glass ionomer liner (RMGI) to dentin and resin composite. MATERIALS AND METHODS The enamel of 11 posterior molar teeth was removed to expose dentin and then placed in acrylic blocks. Each specimen received three microcylindrical Tygon tubes filled with bioactive ionic resin composite (Activa Bioactive base/liner (PULPDENT: , MA, USA)), RMGI (Riva light cure SDI LTD, Bayswater, Australia), and resin composite (Filtek Z350xt, MN, USA). Composite discs (n = 11) were fabricated from nanofilled resin composite (Filtek Z350xt) and then fixed in acrylic blocks. Each specimen received two microcylindrical Tygon tubes filled with Activa Bioactive base/liner and Riva RMGI. All specimens were mounted individually to universal testing machine for μSBS test. Failure modes were analyzed using stereomicroscope and scanning electron microscope. RESULTS Filtek Z350xt nanofilled resin composite showed the highest μSBS values. No statistical significant difference was found between Activa Bioactive and Riva RMGI (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION Bioactive ionic resin composite liner exhibited similar bond strength as RMGI to dentin and resin composite.

Abstract
The composition of universal adhesives, as well as the adhesive strategy, may influence bonding effectiveness and durability. This study aimed to evaluate the microtensile bond strength (µTBS) and nanoleakage (NL), immediately and after 6-month aging, and in situ degree of conversion (DC), of two universal adhesives (Scotchbond Universal Adhesive, SBU; Xeno Select, XEN) applied with etch-and-rinse (ER) and self-etch (SE) strategies, in comparison with a two-step SE adhesive (Clearfil SE Bond, CSE). Dentin surfaces of fifty human third molars were randomly assigned to the following adhesives: two universal adhesives, SBU and XEN, applied in ER or SE mode and CSE, used as control. Teeth were sectioned into beams to be tested under µTBS, half of them after 24 h, and the rest after 6 months of water aging. Selected beams from each tooth were used for NL evaluation and in situ DC quantification. SBU and CSE showed significantly higher mean µTBS and lower nanoleakage than XEN, regardless of the evaluation time and adhesion strategy. XEN-SE yielded the lowest degree of conversion. Therefore, adhesive properties of universal adhesives to dentin are material dependent, regardless of the adhesion strategy, exhibiting XEN a significantly worse performance than SBU.

OBJECTIVES This study compared the bonding properties of dentin of three 2-step etch-and-rinse adhesives (2-ERAs) to those of three universal adhesives (UAs) applied with an etch-and-rinse strategy (ER), immediately and after 1 year of water storage. METHODS Sixty caries-free molars were divided into 6 groups according to the adhesive systems used (n = 10). The 2-ERA systems included were: 1) Adper Single Bond 2 (SB), 2) Tetric N-Bond (TB), and 3) Ambar (AM); and the UAs systems were: 4) Single Bond Universal (SBU) 5) Tetric N-Bond Universal (TBU), and 6) Ambar Universal (AMU). The occlusal third of each tooth was removed and the adhesives were applied. After the composite build-up, specimens were sectioned and tested for microtensile bond strength (µTBS) and nanoleakage (NL) immediately and after 1 year of water storage. In situ degree of conversion (DC) was only evaluated in the immediate time. For water sorption (WS), solubility (SO), and mass change (MC) tests, 48 disk-shaped specimens were prepared (n = 8) and assessed according to ISO 4049:2009. RESULTS UAs showed higher µTBS and lower NL values than 2-ERAs did after 1 year of water storage (p = 0.001). Regarding DC, 2-ERAs showed higher DC values than UAs (p = 0.001). Regarding WS, 2-ERAs showed higher WS values than those of UAs (p = 0.00001), except for AM and AMU. Lower WS was observed for AM than for other 2-ERAs (p = 0.00001). CONCLUSION The use of UAs applied with the ER strategy seems to be a more effective technique for maintaining adhesion to dentin substrate than 2-ERAS. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE This study may support clinicians in selecting the most adequate adhesive system to be used in ER strategy in dentin, demonstrating that UAs were more effective, considering the longevity of the resin restorations.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the effect of adhesive strategy (total etch or self-etch) of universal adhesives in non-carious cervical lesions. DATA SOURCE A search was made in PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane, Web Of Science, Open Gray, Clinical Registries. DATA SELECTION Randomized Controlled Clinical Trials, studies on non-carious cervical lesions restored using Universal Adhesives, and studies in which universal adhesives have been used in total etch and self -etch strategies were included in this systematic review. DATA EXTRACTION A total of 17 articles were included in the systematic review and 13 in the meta-analysis. Meta-analysis was conducted to assess the clinical performance of NCCLs in terms of retention, marginal adaptation, marginal discoloration, secondary caries and post-operative sensitivity at 18, 24, 36 month follow-up using USPHS as well as FDI criteria, separately. DATA SYNTHESIS Overall there was no significant difference between total etch and self etch adhesive strategies for any of the five outcome measures using either the FDI or the USPHS criteria. p > 0.05, 95% CI, I2 value of 0%. A strongly suspected publication bias in the retention domain was seen at 18 month follow up under FDI criteria. CONCLUSION Most universal adhesives show acceptable clinical performance. There is no significant effect of the adhesive strategy of universal adhesives on their clinical performance according to the results of our meta-analysis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this double-blind, randomized clinical trial was to evaluate the 6- and 18-month clinical performances of a new universal adhesive applied in the "no-waiting" (NW) technique to non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) using two evaluation criteria. MATERIALS AND METHODS One hundred and seventy-six restorations were assigned to four groups according to the adhesive system, adhesive strategy, and application mode: Prime&Bond Active (PB) applied using the etch-and-rinse (ER) and self-etch (SE) strategies with 20 s applications and Clearfil Universal Bond Quick (CQ) applied using the ER and SE strategies with the NW technique. The composite resin restorations were evaluated at baseline and after 6 and 18 months using the World Dental Federation (FDI) and US Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria. The Friedman repeated measures analysis of variance and Wilcoxon test were used for statistical analyses (α = 0.05). RESULTS No significant differences were observed among any of the groups or criteria after 6 months (p > 0.05). After 18 months, 10 restorations were lost (p > 0.05) (2 with PB-ER [95.5%; 95%CI: 92-100%], 4 with PB-SE [90.9%; 95%CI: 82-98%], 0 with CQ-ER [100%; 95%CI: 92-100%], and 4 with CQ-SE [90.9%; 82-98%]). The restorations performed with the SE strategy showed more marginal discrepancies than those performed with the ER strategy, mainly when the FDI criteria were used (p < 0.05). Those that used the PB-SE showed fewer marginal discrepancies than those that used the CQ-SE (FDI; p < 0.05). A few restorations showed marginal discrepancies after the USPHS analysis (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The results when using the CQ-SE and -ER strategies with the NW technique were similar to those when using the PB-SE and -ER strategies in standard applications to non-carious cervical lesions after 6 and 18 months of clinical evaluation. CLINICAL RELEVANCE After 6 and 18 months, the application of Clearfil Universal Bond Quick with the "no-waiting" technique showed similar clinical performance compared to the standard application of Prime & Bond Active applied using the standard application time (20 s). Clinical Outcomes and Quantitative Margin Analysis of a Universal Adhesive Using a Randomized Clinical Trial over Three Years. J Clin Med 2022; 11:jcm11236910. Abstract
The effectiveness of a universal adhesive applied in different application modes for the preparation of Class V composite restorations was evaluated both clinically and by quantitative marginal analysis (QMA). In each of the 22 patients, four non-carious cervical lesions (NCCL) were restored with Filtek™ Supreme XTE (3M). The adhesive Scotchbond™ Universal (SBU, 3M) was applied in self-etch (SE), selective-enamel-etch (SEE) or etch-and-rinse (ER) modes. The etch-and-rinse adhesive OptiBond™ FL (OFL, Kerr) served as a control. The restorations were clinically evaluated (FDI criteria) after 14 days (BL), 6, 12, 24, and 36 months. Additionally, QMA was conducted on all restorations of 11 randomly selected patients. The FDI criteria and marginal gap were statistically compared between the groups at each recall as well as for the time periods between recalls. The cumulative failure rate was non-significantly higher in the OFL group when compared to all of the SBU groups. Marginal adaptation in the OFL and SBU-SE/ER groups was significantly decreased (BL-36 m, p: 0.004) in comparison to the SBU-SEE group (BL-36 m, p: 0.063). More marginal gaps were found in the OFL group than in the SBU-SEE (BL to 36 m, p: 0.063-0.003) and SBU-ER (24/36 m, p: 0.066/0.005) groups as well as in the SBU-SE group when compared to the SBU-SEE (12-36 m, pi ≤ 0.016) and SBU-ER (24/36 m, p: 0.055/0.001) groups. SBU-SEE performed most effectively. The clinical evaluation and QMA corresponded, yet QMA detected group differences earliest after 6 months and is thus a valuable extension to clinical evaluations.

Abstract
The study aimed to evaluate the influence of the manipulation surfaces on the physical properties of one-step self-etch adhesives (1-SEAs). Scotchbond Universal (SBU), Clearfil Universal Bond Quick ER (UBQ), and an experimental adhesive (UBQexp) were manipulated on different surfaces: manufacturer's Teflon-based dispensing dish (TD) or hydroxyapatite plate (HA). After manipulation of the adhesives, the pH of each 1-SEA was measured. Samples of each adhesive/manipulation surface were prepared and subjected to water sorption (WS)/solubility (SL) and flexural strength tests. The modulus of elasticity (E) was measured in dry and wet conditions before and after 24 h water storage, and the percentage of variation of E (ΔE) was calculated. Results were analyzed using the t-test with Bonferroni corrections (α = 0.05). When adhesives were manipulated on the HA plate, there was a significant increase in the adhesives' pH. WS and SL of all 1-SEAs decreased when the HA was used. Only SBU showed higher flexural strength when manipulated on the HA compared to the manipulation on TD under dry and wet conditions. For each 1-SEA, the use of HA resulted in significantly higher E in dry and wet conditions. ΔE of all adhesives was smaller with the manipulation on HA than on TD. It was concluded that the manipulation of 1-SEA on a hydroxyapatite plate considerably affected the adhesives' properties.

Abstract
Aim: To evaluate the influence of the biomodification of erosive lesions with a chitosan nanoformulation containing green tea (NanoCsQ) on the clinical performance of a composite resin. Methods: The study was performed in a split-mouth, randomized and double-blinded model with 20 patients with 40 erosive lesions. The patient’s teeth were randomized into two groups (n=20) according to the surface treatment: 1) Without biomodification (control), and 2) Biomodification with NanoCsQ solution (experimental). The lesions were restored with adhesive (Tetric N-bond, Ivoclar) and composite resin (IPS Empress Direct, Ivoclar). The restorations were polished and 7 days (baseline), 6 months, and 12 months later were evaluated according to the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) modified criteria, using clinical exam and photographics. Data were analyzed by Friedman’s and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests. Results: No significant differences were found between the control and experimental groups (p=0.423), and also among the follow-up periods (baseline, six months, and 12 months) (p=0.50). Regarding the retention criteria, 90% of the restoration had an alpha score in the control group. Only 10% of the restorations without biomodification (control) had a score charlie at the 12-month follow-up. None of the patients reported post-operatory sensitivity. Conclusion: The NanoCsQ solution did not negatively affect the performance of the composite resin restorations after 12 months.

Abstract
A dental luting material aids in the retention and stability of indirect restorations on the prepared tooth structure. In dentistry, clinicians are using a wide range of luting materials for the cementation of indirect restorations. Zinc oxide eugenol and non-eugenol cements, zinc phosphate cement, zinc polycarboxylate cement, glass ionomer cement and resin cements are common dental cements used in dentistry. Each luting material or cement possesses unique properties and clinical implications. An ideal luting cement should be biocompatible, insoluble, resistant to thermal and chemical assaults, antibacterial, aesthetic, simple and easy to use. It should have high strength properties under tension, shear and compression to resist stress at the restoration-tooth interface, as well as adequate working and setting times. So far, no luting material possesses all of these properties of an ideal cement. Scientists have been modifying the conventional luting cements to improve the material's clinical performance and developing novel materials for clinical use. To achieve the best clinical outcome, clinicians should update their knowledge and gain a good understanding of the luting materials so that they can make a wise clinical decision on the material selection and obtain an insight into the development of luting cements. Therefore, the objective of this study is to provide a discussion on the physical, chemical, adhesive and aesthetic properties of common luting materials. The clinical indications of these luting materials are suggested based on their properties. In addition, overviews of the modification of the conventional luting materials and the newly developed luting materials are provided.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES In this study, it was aimed to investigate the effects of different waiting periods on resin-dentin bond strength (BS), degree of conversion (DC), contact angle (CA), surface tension (ST), solvent evaporation (weight loss) and the characteristics of adhesive interfaces of the current six universal adhesive resins (ARs). MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 216 caries-free human lower third molar teeth were used. Composite resin restorations were performed by applying six universal ARs in etch-and-rinse and self-etch mode on standardized dentin surfaces after 0, 5, and 30 min waiting time. Then, a micro-shear BS test, SEM examination and characterization of the adhesive interface were performed. In addition, DC, CA, ST, solvent evaporation of all tested ARs were evaluated. RESULTS The obtained data were statistically anaIyzed. The tested ARs did not show any statistical difference between 0 and 5 min evaluations in all parameters evaluated except for weight loss (p > 0.05). While the weight loss, ST and CA of all ARs increased in 30 min (p < 0.05), the BS, DC, thickness of the adhesive layer and the hybrid layer, resin tag length and number of resin tags varied according to the ARs used. When the ARs were used in etch-and-rinse mode, all the parameters evaluated also varied according to the AR used. Higher adhesive layer thickness and lower hybrid layer thickness were found in the self-etch mode (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS All of the adhesives tested can be safely used up to 30 min. This could also prevent economical loss caused by waste adhesive material. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE It is important to know how the bond strength, degree of conversion, adhesion, contact angle and surface tension properties of the adhesive resin waiting in the dispensing cup for a long time during clinical use are affected to make ideal restorations.

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of self-cured universal adhesive system on shear bond strengths of two conventional and two bulk-fill composites to dentin.
Material-method: In this study, four groups were formed: two conventional condensable composites[G-aenial posterior(GC), Palfique Estelite Paste(Tokuyama)], and two bulk-fill composites[Estelite Bulk Fill Flow(Tokuyama), Beautifil Bulk Restorative(Shofu)]. Each group was divided into two subgroups; G-premio bond (control group) ve self-cured Universal Bond (Tokuyama). 32 human third molar human teeth were prepared to expose dentin surfaces. After the preparation, the teeth were randomly divided into 4 main groups and 2 subgroups (n = 8), composites were applied to the surfaces with the help of cylindrical silicone transparent mold with a diameter of 4 mm and a height of 4 mm.
Results: In this study, when both adhesive systems are evaluated; the highest shear bond strength value was Palfique Estelite Paste, while the lowest shear bond strength value was Beautifil Bulk Restorative. While the difference between Palfique Estelite Paste and Estelite bulk-fill flow, Beautifil Bulk Restorative was found to be statistically significant (p<0.05), the difference with G-aenial posterior was not significant (p>0.05). The difference between G-aenial posterior and Beautifil Bulk Restorative was found to be statistically significant (p<0.05). When adhesive systems are compared; G-premio bond was found to be higher in all composite groups compared to self-cured Universal Bond, but the difference between them was statistically insignificant (p>0.05).
Conclusion: While conventional composites exhibited high shear bond strengths, bulk-fill composites showed values close to these values. The self-cured adhesive system we used showed near values of shear bond strength to the light-polymerized adhesive system. In terms of bond strength self-cured adhesive systems can be recommended for use in areas where light can be difficult to reach in clinical applications. It is advisable to use self-cured adhesive systems for use in areas where light can be difficult to access in clinical applications.

ÖZET
Geleneksel ve Bulk-fill Kompozitlerin Makaslama Bağlanma Dayanımlarına Işıksız Adeziv Sistemin Etkisi
Amaç: Çalışmamızın amacı, iki geleneksel ve iki bulk-fill kompozitlerin dentine makaslama bağlanma dayanımlarına ışıksız adeziv sistemin etkisinin incelenmesidir.
Materyal-metod: Çalışmamızda iki geleneksel kondanse edilebilen kompozit [G-aenial posterior(GC), Palfique Estelite Paste(Tokuyama)], kütlesel yerleştirilebilen iki bulk-fill kompozit [Estelite Bulk Fill Flow(Tokuyama), Beautifil Bulk Restorative(Shofu)] olarak 4 grup oluşturuldu. Her grup iki alt gruba ayrıldı; G-premio bond (Kontrol grubu) ve ışıksız Universal Bond (Tokuyama). 32 adet insan üçüncü molar insan dişi dentin yüzeyleri açığa çıkacak şekilde prepare edildi. Preparasyonun ardından dişler rastgele 4 ana, 2 alt gruba ayrıldı(n=8), yüzeylere 4 mm çapında ve 4 mm yüksekliğindeki silindirik silikon şeffaf kalıp yardımıyla kompozitler uygulandı. Tüm grupların makaslama bağlanma değerleri universal test cihazında ölçüldü, kuvvet birimi ise “newton” (=N) olarak kalibre edildi.
Bulgular: Çalışmamızda her iki adeziv sistem kullanıldığında da, en yüksek makaslama bağlanma dayanım değerini Estelite Paste gösterirken, en düşük makaslama bağlanma dayanım değerini Beautifil Bulk Restorative göstermiştir. Estelite pasteile; Bulk-fill flow ve Beautifil Bulk Restorative arasındaki fark istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulunurken (P<0,05), G-aenial posterior ile arasındaki fark anlamsız bulunmuştur(P>0,05). G-aenial posterior ile Beautifil Bulk Restorative arasındaki fark istatistiksel olarak önemli bulunmuştur(P<0,05). Adeziv sistemler kıyaslandığında; tüm kompozit gruplarında G-premio bond, Işıksız Universal Bonda göre daha yüksek bağlanma sağlarken, aralarındaki fark istatistiksel olarak anlamsız bulunmuştur (P>0,05).
Sonuçlar: Geleneksel kompozitler, yüksek makaslama bağlanma dayanımları sergilerken, bulkfill kompozitler bu değerlere yakın değerler göstermiştir. Kullandığımız ışıksız adeziv sistem, ışıkla polimerize edilen adeziv sisteme yakın bağlanma değerleri sergilemiştir. Işıksız adeziv sistemler, klinik kullanımlarda ışığın zor olabileceği bölgelerde bağlanma dayanımı açısından kullanılması önerilebilir.

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to compare bond durability, in terms of fatigue bond strength, of a two-step HEMA-free universal adhesive and representative adhesives in each systematic category. The adhesives used in this study were OptiBond FL, Prime&Bond NT, Clearfil SE Bond 2, G2-Bond Universal, and Scotchbond Universal Plus Adhesive. Fatigue bond strength testing and scanning electron microscopy analysis of adhesively bonded enamel and dentin interfaces were performed. For the adhesives in etch-and-rinse mode, the enamel fatigue bond strength of the G2-Bond Universal adhesive was significantly higher than those of other adhesives, and the dentin fatigue bond strength of Prime&Bond NT was significantly lower than the others. For adhesives in self-etch mode, the enamel fatigue bond strengths of Clearfil SE Bond 2 and G2-Bond Universal were significantly higher than that of the Scotchbond Universal Plus Adhesive, and the dentin fatigue bond strength of G2-Bond Universal was significantly higher than Clearfil SE Bond 2 and the Scotchbond Universal Plus Adhesive. The two-step HEMA-free universal adhesive showed higher enamel and higher or equal dentin fatigue bond strength than other selected representative adhesive systems in etch-and-rinse mode and higher or equal enamel and higher dentin fatigue bond strength than adhesive systems in self-etch mode.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study evaluated the influence of irradiance/exposure time on the Knoop hardness (KHN) and polymer cross-linking density (PCLD), as well as microtensile bond strength (μTBS), nanoleakage (NL), and in situ degree of conversion (DC) of universal adhesives. METHODS AND MATERIALS Two universal adhesive systems, Clearfil Universal Bond Quick (CUQ) and Scotchbond Universal Adhesive (SBU), were light-cured using various irradiance/exposure times: 1400 mW/cm2 for 5 s (1400*5); 1400 mW/cm2 for 10 s (1400*10); 3200 mW/cm2 for 5 s (3200*5); and 3200 mW/cm2 for 10 s (3200*10). Adhesive disks from each group were used to measure PCLD by KHN. One hundred and twenty-eight human molars were randomly assigned to 16 groups according to the following variables: adhesive system vs adhesive strategies vs radiance/exposure times. After restoration, specimens were sectioned into resin-dentin sticks and tested for μTBS, NL, and DC. The data from PCLD (%), KHN, μTBS (MPa), NL (%), and DC (%) data were subjected to ANOVA and Tukey's test (α=0.05). RESULTS Significant reductions in KHN, μTBS, and DC (p=0.00001) values and an increase in NL and PCLD (p=0.00001) values were observed for 3200*10 when compared with other groups. Higher KHN, μTBS, and DC (p=0.000001) values were observed for 3200*5 in comparison with the other groups. The 1400*5 (7 J/cm2) and 1400*10 (14 J/cm2) groups showed intermediate values (p=0.000001). CONCLUSION Although similar results in terms of hardness, polymer cross-linking density and nanoleakage were observed when 5 seconds at 3200 mW/cm2 and 10 seconds at 1400 mW/cm2 groups were compared, the use of higher irradiance (3200 mW/cm2) for only 5 seconds showed better results in terms of bond strength and degree of conversion for both universal adhesives to dentin. The prolonged exposure time (10 seconds) at the higher irradiance (3200 mW/cm2) showed the worst results.

Abstract
This paper evaluates the effect of an additional hydrophobic resin coat (extra HL) associated with universal adhesives on sound and eroded dentin and evaluated immediately or after 2 years of water storage to improve the microtensile bond strength (μTBS) and nanoleakage (NL) when compared to the use of universal adhesives only. Sixty-four molars were assigned to eight groups using the following combinations: 1. dentin substrate, including sound and eroded dentin; 2. treatment, including the control and extra HL and storage time (immediately and after two-years of storage). Two universal adhesives (Prime & Bond Active or Scotchbond Universal) were evaluated. Before restoration, half of the teeth were subjected to soft-drink erosion. Composite buildups were bonded; specimens were stored (37 °C/24 h), sectioned into resin−dentin bonded sticks and tested for microtensile bond strength and nanoleakage using SEM (immediately and after two-years of storage). Three-way ANOVA and Tukey’s test (α = 0.05%) were used. In the immediate testing, the application of extra HL did not increase microtensile bond strength values compared with the control group in either substrate (p > 0.05). However, extra HL significantly decreased nanoleakage values when applied to eroded and sound dentin (p = 0.0001). After two years, the application of extra HL produced significantly higher microtensile bond strength and lower nanoleakage values than the control group for both adhesives (p = 0.0001). In all cases, sound dentin showed higher microtensile bond strength and lower nanoleakage values than eroded dentin (p = 0.000001). An extra HL increased the bond strength and reduced nanoleakage in eroded dentin after two-years of storage.

Bond Strength of Adhesive Systems to Calcium Silicate-Based Materials: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of In Vitro Studies. Gels 2022; 8:gels8050311. Abstract
Since the adhesion of resin composites to calcium silicate-based cement is considered challenging. Therefore, the best adhesion strategy should be indicated. This review aimed to assess the effect of different adhesive systems on the bond strength of resin composite to calcium silicate-based cement through a systematic review and meta-analysis. The subsequent PICOS framework used was: population, calcium silicate-based cement; intervention, use of self-etch adhesive systems; control, use of total-etch adhesive systems; outcome, bond strength; study design, in vitro studies. The literature search was conducted independently by two reviewers up to 18 February 2021. Electronic databases (PubMed, ISI Web of Science, SciELO, Scopus, and Embase) were searched for applicable articles. In vitro manuscripts studying the effect of adhesive systems on the bond strength of calcium silicate-based cement were considered. The meta-analyses were performed using Review Manager Software version 5.3.5 (The Nordic Cochrane Centre, The Cochrane Collaboration, Copenhagen, Denmark). Bond strength comparisons were made considering the type of calcium silicate-based cement (Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA), Biodentine™, or TheraCal LC®). A p-value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. A total of 7321 studies were retrieved in databases searched. After full-text evaluation, 37 eligible papers were assessed for qualitative analysis, leaving a total of 22 papers for the quantitative analysis. According to the meta-analysis, the bond strength values of resin composite materials to MTA and TheraCal LC® cement were favored when a total-etch adhesive system was used (p ≤ 0.02). On the other hand, the meta-analysis of the bond strength of resin-based materials to Biodentine™ calcium silicate-based cement was similar between both approaches (p = 0.12). The in vitro evidence suggests that the bond strength of resin-based materials to both MTA and TheraCal LC® cement was preferred by using the total-etch adhesive strategy. However, when bonding to Biodentine™, the use of self-etch or total-etch strategies displayed promising results. Given the lack of evidence related to the chemical interaction of self-etch adhesive materials with the bioceramics, if self-etch adhesives are used for bonding resin-based restorations to calcium silicate-based cement, a pretreatment with phosphoric acid could be recommended.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to evaluate the effects of different universal adhesives and surface treatments on the repair bond strength between resin composites. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 220 composite samples were divided into three groups according to the adhesive resin to be applied: 1) Scotchbond Universal, 2) G-Premio Bond, and 3) Peak Universal Bond. They were then divided into seven subgroups according to surface treatments (n = 10): A) air abrasion, B) air abrasion+silane, C) hydrofluoric acid, D) hydrofluoric acid+silane, E) air abrasion+hydrofluoric acid+silane, F) silane, and G) no surface treatment (negative control). After surface treatment, a repair composite was applied. Samples aged in the thermocycle were subjected to micro-tensile bond strength testing. Cohesive strength values of 10 non-aged composite blocks were used as a positive control. Kruskal-Wallis and one-way ANOVA tests were used for statistical evaluation. Fractured surfaces were evaluated using a scanning electron microscope. RESULTS In Scotchbond Universal and G-Premio Bond, the mean micro-tensile bond strength value of the no surface treatment subgroup was significantly lower than that of the positive control. All subgroups of Peak Universal Bond showed similar values to the positive control. CONCLUSION While Scotchbond Universal and G-Premio Bond required mechanical roughening before adhesive application, Peak Universal Bond did not require any surface treatment. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Different universal adhesives may show different repair bonding strengths with different surface treatments. Since achieving a standard in this regard can be associated with many independent factors, clinicians should determine how to apply the adhesive they use most effectively with the most appropriate surface treatment based on their own clinical experience.

Abstract
Objectives This study aimed to investigate the bonding effects of cleaning protocols on dentin impregnated with endodontic sealer residues using ethanol (E) or xylol (X). The effects of dentin acid etching immediately (I) or 7 days (P) after cleaning were also evaluated. For bonding to dentin, universal adhesive (Scotchbond Universal; 3M ESPE) was used. The persistence of sealer residues, hybrid layer formation and microshear bond strength were the performed analysis. Materials and Methods One hundred and twenty bovine dentin specimens were allocated into 4 groups (n = 10): G1 (E+I); G2 (X+I); G3 (E+P); and G4 (X+P). The persistence of sealer residues was evaluated by SEM. Confocal laser scanning microscopy images were taken to measure the formed hybrid layer using the Image J program. For microshear bond strength, 4 resin composite cylinders were placed over the dentin after the cleaning protocols. ANOVA followed by Tukey test and Kruskal-Wallis followed by Dunn test were used for parametric and non-parametric data, respectively (α = 5%). Results G2 and G4 groups showed a lower persistence of residues (p < 0.05) and thicker hybrid layer than the other groups (p < 0.05). No bond strength differences among all groups were observed (p > 0.05). Conclusions Dentin cleaning using xylol, regardless of the time-point of acid etching, provided lower persistence of residues over the surface and thicker hybrid layer. However, the bond strength of the universal adhesive system in etch-and-rinse strategy was not influenced by the cleaning protocols or time-point of acid etching.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This double-blind, randomized clinical trial evaluated the influence of dentin moisture on postoperative sensitivity (POS), as well as, on clinical performance in posterior bulk-fill composite restorations, using a universal adhesive, until 12 months after clinical service. METHODS AND MATERIALS In accordance with a split-mouth design, 45 patients received posterior restorations, restored with a bulk-fill resin composite (Filtek Bulk Fill, 3M Oral Care) and a universal adhesive used in etch-and-rinse mode (SBU; Single Bond Universal Adhesive), which were applied on dry or moist dentin, with a cavity depth of at least 3 mm. Three operators placed 90 Class I/Class II restorations. Patients were evaluated for spontaneous and stimulated POS in the baseline, and after 48 hours, 7 days, and at 6 and 12 months. In addition, secondary parameters (marginal discoloration, marginal adaptation, fracture, and recurrent caries) were evaluated by World Dental Federation (FDI) criteria after 7 days and at 6 and 12 months. Statistical analyzes were performed using the Chi-square, Fisher exact, Friedman, Kruskall-Wallis, and Mann-Whitney tests (α=0.05). RESULTS No significant spontaneous and stimulated POS was observed when SBU was applied in dry and moist dentin (p>0.05). A significant and higher risk of spontaneous POS (20.0%; 95%CI 10.9-33.82 for dry dentin and 22.22%; 95%CI 12.54-36.27 for moist dentin) occurred up to 48 hours after restoration placement for the dry and moist dentin groups (p<0.02). However, the POS intensity was mild up to 48 hours with no significant difference between dry and moist dentin groups (p>0.79). When secondary parameters were evaluated, no significant differences between the groups were observed. CONCLUSION Dentin moisture did not influence POS in posterior bulk-fill composite restorations when associated with a universal adhesive applied in etch-and-rinse mode.

Abstract
Aim: Evaluating the resin-dentin bond strength of Class II conventional and bulk-fill composite restorations, using different cavity sizes before and after aging. Methods: Seventy-five human molars were distributed into groups according to the buccolingual width of the cavities, conservative (n=25) and extended (n=50). They were divided according to the restorative material: conventional (Z100/control group) or bulk-fill resin composites (Filtek Bulk Fill/FBF; Tetric N Ceram Bulk Fill/TNCBF; Filtek Bulk Fill Flow/FBFF; Surefill SDR flow/SDR). The restored teeth were sectioned on sticks (n=50 per restorative materials + width cavities group), half were stored in Water/Ethanol 75% for 30 days and the other half were submitted to the immediate microtensile bond strength (μTBS) test. Data were analyzed applying the Three-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Bonferroni test, test t, and Weibull analyses (p<0.05). Results: SDR and FBF presented lower μTBS values for extended preparation when compared to the conservative preparation, before aging. After aging, only for the FBFF, a decrease in the μTBS values was observed. Comparing the μTBS values, before and after aging, the SDR demonstrated lower μTBS values after aging when the conservative cavity was used. A decrease in the μTBS values was observed for the Z100, the FBF and, the FBFF, after aging, when the extended cavity was used. Conclusion: The effect of cavity preparation and aging on the resin-dentin of Class II is material dependent. Most of the bulk-fill resin composites evaluated presented a similar performance to the conventional resin composites for all the conditions of this study.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed at evaluating the microtensile bond strength (μTBS) and the resin-dentine ultramorphology (24 h and 10 months ageing) of contemporary universal adhesives applied in self-etch (SE) or etch-and-rinse (ER) mode. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty-four sound human molars were collected and randomly allocated in 4 main experimental groups (n = 16) according to the adhesive system employed and subsequently divided into two subgroups depending on their application mode SE or ER (n = 8): ZipBond X (ZBX-SE; ZBX-ER), Prime and Bond Active (PBA-SE; PBA-ER), Clearfil Universal Bond Quick (CBQ-SE; CBQ-ER) or Scotchbond Universal (SCH-SE; SCH-ER). The specimens were cut into sticks with a cross-sectional area of approximately 0.9 mm2 and subjected to μTBS testing at 24 h or after 10 months of ageing in artificial saliva (AS). Five representative fractured specimens from each group were analysed using field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). Resin-dentine slabs (Ø 0.9mm2) from each experimental group were immersed in Rhodamine B and subsequently analysed using confocal microscopy analysis (CLSM). The μTBS results were analysed using a two-way ANOVA and Newman-Keuls multiple-comparison test (α = 0.05). RESULTS ZBX, PBA and SCH exhibited greater μTBS values than CQB at 24 h in both SE and ER modes (p < 0.05). CQB showed a significant decrease in μTBS values after ageing both when used in SE and ER mode (p < 0.05). ZBX-ER exhibited no significant differences in the μTBS test after ageing (p > 0.05), while a significant drop in μTBS was seen in SCH-ER and APB-ER after 10-month ageing (p < 0.05). Clear signs of degradation were evident in the resin-dentine interface created with CQB regardless of the application mode or the ageing time. In APB-ER and SCH-ER groups, such signs of degradation were evident after ageing in AS. ZBX showed slight dye infiltration both when used in ER and SE mode. CONCLUSIONS The long-term bonding performance of modern universal adhesives is usually influenced by the adhesive strategy employed; self-etching application should be prioritised during dentine bonding. Moreover, the use of shortened bonding protocols may compromise the quality of the resin-dentine interface and the bonding performance of most modern universal adhesives. CLINICAL RELEVANCE The use of etch-and-rinse bonding procedures, as well as "shortened" application protocols should be eluded when using modern universal adhesives in dentine. However, new generation universal adhesives based on innovative chemical formulations may probably allow clinicians to achieve long-term bonding performance with such simplified system also when employed in ER mode.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the influence of different application strategies on the clinical behavior of an MDP-free universal adhesive placed in non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) over the course of 36 months. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty-one patients participated in this study (N = 31). One hundred twenty-four restorations were assigned to four groups: We used the self-etch strategy on groups with (SE-et) and without (SET) selective enamel etching, and the etch-and-rinse strategy on groups with dry (ER-D) and moist (ER-M) dentin. After applying the MDP-free universal adhesive (Xeno Select universal adhesive, Dentsply Sirona), cavities were filled using EvoluX composite resin (Dentsply Sirona). The restorations were evaluated at baseline and after 36 months according to World Dental Federation (FDI) and US Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria. Friedman's repeated-measures analysis of variance rank (α = 0.05) was used for statistical analysis. RESULTS We evaluated the 31 patients after 36 months. Forty-two restorations were lost (ER-D = 5, ER-M = 7, SE-et = 14, SET = 16). The 36-month retention/fracture rates (95% confidence interval) were 83.9% for ER-D, 77.4% for ER-M, 54.9% for SE-et, and 48.4% for SET. ER strategy showed better retention rate than SE strategy (p < 0.05). Thirty-four restorations (ER-D = 6, ER-M = 10, SE-et = 10, SET = 8) showed marginal staining per FDI criteria and 15 restorations (ER-D = 1, ER-M = 2, SE-et = 6, SET = 6) showed marginal staining per USPHS criteria. No restorations showed postoperative sensitivity or recurrence of caries. CONCLUSION The retention rate of Xeno Select universal adhesive was poor, mainly in the self-etch strategy. TRIAL REGISTRATION REBEC clinical registry under protocol RBR-4wh4sh. CLINICAL RELEVANCE MDP-free universal adhesive behavior depends on the bonding strategy used.

Abstract
To investigate the effect of the dimethyl sulfoxide combined with cross-linking agents on microtensile bond strength, silver nitrate penetration and in situ degree of conversion analysis of adhesives to the erosive dentin treatment with Cola-based soft drink. One hundred and sixty-six molars were assigned to 20 groups: (1) Treatment: Sound dentin; Erosive dentin; Erosive dentin treated with primer of dimethyl sulfoxide; Erosive dentin treated with DMSO primer containing proanthocyanidin and rivoflavin; (2) Adhesive systems: iBond Universal and Scotchbond Universal; and (3) adhesive strategy: etch-and-rinse or self-etch strategy. After restoration, specimens were sectioned into sticks to be tested. The data from microtensile bond strength (MPa), silver nitrate penetration (%) and in situ degree of conversion (%) were analyzed by (three- and two-factor ANOVA; Tukey's test α=5%). The application of dimethyl sulfoxide combined of not with cross-linkers improved all properties evaluated when compared to only erosive dentin treatment with Cola-based soft drink. However, only when dimethyl sulfoxide was combined to cross-linkers, the values of the microtensile bond strength, silver nitrate penetration and in situ degree of conversion in erosive dentin treatment with Cola-based soft drink was similar to sound dentin, for both adhesives and adhesive strategies. The application of dimethyl sulfoxide combined with the collagen cross-linking agent contributed to increasing the bond strength and degree of conversion in erosive lesion dentin, at the same time that significantly reduction of nanoleakage in this substrate.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES We investigated the inhibitory effects of captopril on matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and its effect as a primer on dentin bonding durability. MATERIALS AND METHODS One hundred fifty human third molars were selected. Flat surfaces of the middle dentin were exposed, etched 15 s, and followed by pretreatment with a primer for 60 s, including distilled water (control, the negative control primer), 2% chlorhexidine digluconate (CHD, the positive control primer), and captopril solution. Inhibitory effects of primers on MMPs were evaluated by hydroxyproline and gelatinase activity tests. All primers were applied on dentin followed by bonding. Some of the samples were sliced into slabs, placed in a fluorescent solution containing gelatin, and incubated for in situ zymography. Some were cut into sticks, and after aging for 1 day, 12 months, or 24 months, microtensile bonding strength was tested. Some were cut into slabs, aged for 1 day, 12 months, or 24 months, and taken out for nanoleakage tests to reveal interface defects. RESULTS Hydroxyproline and gelatinase activity analyses showed that captopril exerted better inhibitory effects on MMPs, relative to 2% CHD (p < 0.05). A 0.2% captopril aqueous solution (0.2% CapW) was chosen to apply to the dentin. In situ zymography showed that inhibitory effects of captopril on gelatinase were significantly higher compared to 2% CHD (p < 0.01). Microtensile strength revealed that the bonding effects of the 0.2% CapW group lasted longer, compared to the control and 2% CHD groups (p < 0.05). Interface defects, detected by nanoleakage, were significantly reduced in the 0.2% CapW group, compared to the control and 2% CHD groups (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Captopril inhibits dentin MMP activities and effectively improves dentin bonding durability. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Captopril is a promising dentin bonding primer for improving bonding durability.

Abstract
Context: Recurrent caries are the leading cause of composite resin failure. Aims: The purpose of this pilot study was to test the efficacy of a novel copper iodide (CuI) containing dental adhesive in an in vitro caries model. Subjects and Methods: Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus acidophilus were grown individually on the complex medium for 48 h at 37°C. The pH of the mixed medium was 7.0 initially and tested every 24 h. 40 extracted teeth were prepared with standardized cavity preparations and coated with control or experimental CuI adhesives and imaged using a micro-computed tomography (microCT). Four study groups were evaluated: (1) control (2) 0.5 μg/ml CuI (3) 1.0 μg/ml CuI, 4) 5.0 μg/ml CuI. After incubation, the teeth were re-imaged using the microCT. Utilizing AnalyzePro software the three-dimensional data sets were overlaid and demineralization was measured and statistics were run. Statistics: Stratified ANOVA models were run to determine if there were differences between the control and experimental adhesive groups. Similarly, pH and bacterial concentrations were evaluated to ensure the viability of polymicrobial specimen. Results and Conclusions: Significant differences were found between the control group and the 1.0 and 5.0 CuI adhesive groups. No differences in pH were noted between the groups. Overlaid changes in demineralization were recorded as volume loss. CuI adhesives with 5 mg/ml or higher have the potential to limit tooth demineralization after bacterial penetration of a dental restoration in an in vitro caries model. Further testing is needed.

Abstract
Purpose This study compared microleakage of different resin based composite (RBC) materials bonded to dentin, after chlorhexidine (CHX) application, by different adhesion protocols of a universal adhesive system. Methods Class V cavities were prepared on the buccal and lingual surfaces of 40 premolar teeth. The “etch-and-rinse” technique of a universal bond adhesive system (Single Bond Universal Adhesive) was used on buccal preparations, while the “self-etch” protocol was used on the lingual surfaces. Two RBCs, one bulk fill (Filtek Bulk Fill [FBF]) and one conventional (Filtek Z350 XT [Z350XT]), were used. Teeth were divided into two groups of 20 teeth each, 10 per each RBC (n = 10): (1) control; and (2) pretreatment with 2% CHX. For FBF groups, teeth were restored with a single increment; however, for Z350XT, a layering technique was used. Teeth were aged by thermo-cycling and prepared for microleakage testing. Dye penetration was evaluated and scored from 0 to 4. Data were analyzed at a significance level of P < 0.05. Results The highest microleakage mean scores were found in the control group of the etched margins for both RBCs (2.80 ± 1.033 FBF and 2.10 ± 1.370 Z350XT). The CHX-pretreated group showed significantly lower microleakage than the control for FBF only (P = 0.008). No significant difference was found between groups for the “self-etch” protocol (χ2 = 0.884, P = 0.08). No significant differences were found between FBF and Z350XT in all study groups (P > 0.2). Conclusions When the “self-etch” protocol of the universal adhesive system was used, dentin microleakage was not affected by CHX-pretreatment when teeth were restored with bulk fill or conventional RBCs. In the “etch-and-rinse” protocol, CHX application improved the marginal seal before restoration with bulk fill material. However, in the absence of CHX, the “etch-and-rinse” protocol negatively affected marginal integrity.

Abstract
Aims: This study evaluated the hybrid layer formation and bond strength of two adhesive systems, Scotchbond Universal (U) or Adper Scotchbond Multi Purpose (M), after cleaning protocols using ethanol (E) or xylol (X), to dentin impregnated with an epoxy-resin based endodontic sealer. Settings and Design: The study design was an Experimental in vitro study. Methodology: One hundred bovine dentin specimens were randomly allocated into five groups (n = 10): Computed tomography (CT) (control): Only acid etching + M; E+U; X+U; E+M. After the specimen preparation, images were obtained using confocal laser scanning microscopy to evaluate the hybrid layer formation. For microshear bond strength test, the dentin specimens were included in polyvinyl chloride tubes and four resin composite cylinders were placed on the surface. The analysis was performed 24 h after storage. Statistical Analysis Used: For parametric and nonparametric data, analysis of variance followed by Tukey test and Kruskal–Wallis, followed by Dunn test were, respectively, used at a significance level of 5%. Results: Regarding hybrid layer formation, all experimental groups were similar to each other (P > 0.05). However, CT showed higher hybrid layer formation than other groups (P < 0.05), except in relation to X+M (P > 0.05). Bond strength was statistically similar among all groups (P > 0.05). Conclusions: Hybrid layer formation in dentin impregnated with epoxy resin-based sealer and submitted to different cleaning protocols was similar to the control group only for X+M. No differences were found among the experimental groups. Regarding the bond strength, no effect was observed for any group.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To answer the following PICOS question: "Is the risk of retention loss, marginal discoloration, marginal adaptation and postoperative sensitivity (POS) equal for etch-and-rinse (EAR) compared to self-etch (SE) or selective-enamel etch (SEE) mode when restoring non carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) with universal adhesives?". METHODS PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Scientific Electronic Library Online, LILACS, OpenGrey and Google Scholar™ were searched. Randomized controlled clinical trials in which resin composites and universal adhesives were used for restoration of NCCLs were considered. Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool was used to assess the risk of bias. Meta-analyses were performed using Revman; random-effects models were applied, and heterogeneity was tested using the I2 index. The significance level was set at p < 0.05. Certainty of evidence was assessed by GRADE tool. RESULTS After screening, 20 articles were included in qualitative, while 14 articles were used for quantitative synthesis. Twelve studies ranked as "low", while 8 studies scored as "unclear" for risk of bias. At 12- and 18/24-months the risk for retention loss was higher for SE than for EAR groups (p = 0.005; RR = 0.22, 95% CI [0.08, 0.63],[moderate certainty of evidence and p = 0.0002; RR = 0.32, 95% CI [0.17, 0.58], moderate certainty of evidence, respectively). No significant differences were observed for marginal discoloration and adaptation (p > 0.05). The probability of POS occurrence was less in SE than in EAR groups (RR = 2.12, 95% CI [1.23, 3.64], moderate certainty of evidence). The certainty of evidence for other outcomes was scored as "low" or "moderate", depending on the follow-up period. SIGNIFICANCE Using universal adhesives in EAR or SEE mode provides more predictable retention, while SE strategy reduces the risk of POS occurrence.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to analyze the literature on the bond strength of self-etching (SE) adhesives containing 10-MDP or other acidic functional monomers, comparing the bonding performance of both compositions. METHODS This study is registered in PROSPERO (CRD42020175715) and it followed the PRISMA Statement. The literature search was performed in PubMed, Web of Science, SciELO, Scopus, LILACS, IBECS, and BBO from the starting coverage date through 30 June 2021. Study eligibility criteria consisted of in vitro studies that evaluated the bond strength (microtensile, microshear, tensile or shear testing) to sound dentin/enamel of a minimum of two distinct SE systems, with at least one material containing 10-MDP and one other being comprised of a distinct acidic composition. Statistical analyses were carried out with RevMan 5.3.5 and using random-effects models with the significance level at p < 0.05. Also, Bayesian network meta-analysis (NMA) was conducted using MetaInsight V3 tool. RESULTS From 740 relevant studies evaluated in full-text analysis, 210 were incorporated to the systematic review and 206 in meta-analysis. The majority of studies was classified as having medium risk of bias (56.7%), followed by low (35.2%) and high (8.1%) risk of bias. Data from a total of 64 adhesive systems were collected, which favored the 10-MDP-based group at both dentin (overall effect: 6.98; 95% CI: 5.61, 8.36; p < 0.00001) and enamel (overall effect: 2.79; 95% CI: 1.62, 3.96; p < 0.00001) substrates. Microtensile testing was more frequently used (73.4%) in the included studies. Adhesives based on 10-MDP showed greater bonding performance than adhesives comprised of monomers such as PENTA, 6-MHP, 4-META, 4-MET, pyrophosphate esters, mixed composition or monomers derived from sulfonic acid (p ≤ 0.01); whereas similar bond strength values were verified between 10-MDP-based materials and those containing PEM-F, acrylamide phosphates, 4-AET, MAC-10, or monomers derived from polyacrylic and phosphonic acids (p ≥ 0.05). Adhesives based on GPDM were the only ones that resulted in greater bonding potential than the 10-MDP-based group (p = 0.03). Dental bonds in dentin were favored with the application of 2-step 10-MDP-based adhesives; whereas in enamel the dental bonds were favored for both 2-steps versions of adhesives, regardless of the presence of 10-MDP. Indirect evidence from NMA revealed that 1-step 10-MDP-free and universal 10-MDP-free adhesives seemed to perform worst in dentin and enamel, respectively. SIGNIFICANCE Adhesives containing 10-MDP showed higher bonding performance than materials formulated with other acidic ingredients, although this result relied on the type of mechanical testing, type of the substrate, acidic composition of the adhesive, and the application category of the SE system. This review summarized the effects of the foregoing factors on the adhesion to dental substrates.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the changes of different pulpotomy techniques on the primary tooth dentin and to evaluate the effects of these pulpotomy methods on the shear bond strength of restorative materials to primary tooth dentin. Two hundred and forty dentin specimens were distributed randomly to the study groups as; control, ferric sulphate, Biodentine® , Nd:YAG laser, photobiomodulation, and atmospheric pressure cold plasma (APCP). After the application of pulpotomy methods, samples were again randomly divided to two restorative materials (glass hybrid and composite resin) (n = 20) and shear bond strength (SBS) test was performed. Then, 12 new dentin specimens were prepared for all groups for surface analysis. Surface examination (n = 12) and fracture analyses (n = 240) were carried out with scanning electron microscope (SEM). Statistical significance range was accepted as α <.05 for all data. A statistically significant difference was obtained among all study groups for glass hybrid material as well as composite material (p <.05). While the highest mean SBS value was obtained with Nd:YAG laser (7.58 ± 0.60 MPa), the lowest value was observed with Biodentine® (6.70 ± 0.91 MPa; p = .001) for glass hybrid material. For composite material, the highest mean SBS value was calculated for Nd:YAG laser (13.79 ± 1.24 MPa), while the lowest value was obtained with ferric sulphate (10.17 ± 1.45 MPa; p = .001). Fracture modes were mainly adhesive and mixed type according to SEM analysis. Moreover, morphological changes were observed with SEM on the dentin surfaces of ferric sulphate, Biodentine® and Nd:YAG laser. Within the limitations of this study, Nd:YAG laser increased the shear bond strength values in groups of composite resin. RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS: In this article, we report the results of the shear bonding strength test of two restorative materials (glass-hybrid vs. composite resin) to primary tooth dentin following the application of five different pulpotomy techniques (ferric sulfate, Biodentine® , Nd:YAG laser, photobiomodulation, and atmospheric pressure cold plasma) were reported. This article will contribute to the literature that there are considerably limited researches concerning the bond strength of glass hybrid to primary dentin and also atmospheric pressure cold plasma in pulpotomies. The SEM examination was performed in two stages in this study; the morphological changes in both treated dentin surfaces and the surfaces of the samples subjected to the shear bond strength test.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To characterize whether the bonding performance and fatigue strength of resin-dentin interfaces created by a universal adhesive would be affected by different H3PO4-application times to more accurately assess long-term durability. METHODS Mid-coronal flat dentin surfaces with standardized smear-layers were produced on sound third molars, etched with 32% H3PO4 for 0, 3 and 15 s, bonded with a mild universal adhesive (3M-ESPE) and restored with a nanofilled composite. Bonded specimens (0.9 × 0.9 mm) were stored in deionized water for 24 h and sectioned into beams for microtensile testing (n = 10). Resin-dentin beams were tested under tension until failure (0.5 mm/min) after 24 h or 6 month storage in artificial saliva at 37 ̊C. Bar-shaped resin-dentin beams (0.9 × 0.9 × 12 mm) were tested under 4-point-flexure initially at quasi-static loads (n = 22) and then under cyclic loads (n > 50). The stress-life fatigue behavior was evaluated using the twin-bonded interface approach by the staircase method at 4 Hz. Fractured interfaces and the tension side of unfractured beams were evaluated under SEM, along with the micro-morphology of the etched dentin surfaces and hybrid layers. Data were analyzed by ANOVA and Tukey test and Wilcoxon Rank Sum Test (α = 0.05). RESULTS Quasi-static loads were limited to discriminate the bonding performance of resin-dentin interfaces. Application modes significantly affected etching patterns, fatigue strength, endurance limits and hybrid layer morphology (p < 0.001). SIGNIFICANCE Reductions in fatigue strength of self-etched bonded interfaces raise concerns about the true ability of universal adhesives to properly bond to dentin.

Abstract
Objectives: This in-vitro study aimed to evaluate the effect of cavity disinfection with chlorhexidine (CHX) on marginal gaps of Class V composite resin restorations bonded with a universal adhesive using self-etch and etch-and-rinse bonding strategy. Materials and Methods: Sixty sound human premolars were randomly assigned to two groups (n=30): group 1 (CHX) and group 2 (no CHX). Each group was divided into two subgroups (n=15) according to the bonding strategy of the universal adhesive (self-etch or etch-and-rinse). Class V cavities were prepared on the buccal surfaces of the teeth. The occlusal and gingival margins of the cavities were placed in enamel and dentin, respectively. In the first and second subgroups of both groups, the All-Bond Universal adhesive was applied with self-etch and etch-and-rinse bonding strategy, respectively. After restoration and thermocycling, the samples were sectioned, and marginal gaps at the gingival margins were measured in micrometer (μm) under a stereomicroscope. Two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to compare marginal gaps between the groups and the subgroups. Results: The mean marginal gap size was significantly affected by cavity disinfection (P=0.001) and bonding strategy (P=0.002). However, the interaction effect of these two factors on the mean marginal gap size was not significant (P=0.79). Conclusion: The use of CHX resulted in larger marginal gaps at the gingival margins of Class V composite resin restorations. Irrespective of disinfection, the self-etch bonding strategy resulted in larger marginal gaps compared to the etch-and-rinse bonding strategy.

Abstract
Objectives This study aimed to determine the microtensile bond strength (μTBS) of a bulk-fill composite to permanent and primary coronal dentin using a universal adhesive in self-etch and total-etch modes. Materials and Methods This in-vitro study was performed on 52 occlusal dentinal surfaces of human primary and permanent teeth. The crowns were cut to the gingival level. The 48 prepared dentin sections were randomly assigned to the following groups (n=13): A: Primary/Total-etch, B: Primary/Self-etch, C: Permanent/Total-etch, and D: Permanent/Self-etch. In groups A and C, after etching for 15 seconds, two layers of a universal bonding (Futurabond U) were applied and cured for 10 seconds. All samples were filled with a bulk-fill composite (x-trafil; VOCO) and cured for 40 seconds. The samples were cut to a bar-shaped dentin block with the dimensions of 1×1×1 mm3, and after 10,000 thermocycles, the μTBS test was accomplished at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/minute. The mean and standard deviation (SD) of μTBS were calculated, and the data were analyzed using two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Fisher's exact test. Results The mean μTBS was as follows: A: 15.03±2.0279, B: 11.11±2.4423, C: 23.50±4.8165, and D: 16.26±6.3200 MPa. Futurabond U showed a higher μTBS in the total-etch mode (P<0.001). The permanent teeth had greater μTBS than the primary teeth (P<0.001). Similar percentages of failure modes were observed in the total-etch groups but in the self-etch groups, most failures were in the form of adhesive and mixed. Conclusion Greater μTBS was observed in the permanent teeth with the total-etch technique.

Abstract
Background To evaluate in vitro the influence of photoinitiators on the microtensile strength of adhesive systems and composite resins in bovine dentin.
Material and Methods Forty dentin obtained from bovine teeth were randomly distributed in four groups (n = 10) according to the different adhesive systems and composite resins used: G1 - AAPS + VAPS (Ambar APS + Vittra APS); G2- AAPS + O (Ambar APS + Opallis); G3 - A + VAPS (Ambar + Vittra APS) and G4 - A + O (Ambar + Opallis). After restoration with the composite, the samples were sectioned to obtain toothpicks that were subjected to the microtensile and nanofiltration test (1.0 mm/min).
Results The Kruskal-Wallis test did not show significant differences between the groups (p<0.05). The values in MPa were: AAPS + VAPS - 19.56 MPa; AAPS + O - 19.77 MPa; A + VAPS - 17.78 MPa; A + O - 22.44 MPa. The result of the Mann-Whitney test showed no significant differences depending on the adhesive (Ambar Universal- 19.11 MPa, Ambar APS Universal- 21.70 MPa) and the composite resin used (Vittra APS- 18.75 MPa, Opallis - 23.75 MPa). The AAPS + VAPS and AAPS + O groups showed intense silver nitrate infiltration. The A + APS group showed a moderate infiltration and the A + O group had a mild infiltration in the adhesive system/dentin interface.
Conclusions The use of different photoinitiators in the composition of adhesive systems and restorative composites did not affect their bond strength values and the presence of water in the solvent of the APS photoinitiator system had a negative influence, increasing the degree of infiltration in the hybrid layer when compared to the camphorquinone photoinitiator.
