Abstract
Considerable progress has been made in the electrochemical determination of acetaminophen (AP) over the past few decades. Nanomaterials or enzymes as electrode modifiers greatly improve the performance of AP electrochemical sensors. This review focuses on the development potential, detection principles and techniques for the electrochemical analysis of AP. In particular, the design and construction of AP electrochemical sensors are discussed from the perspective of non-enzyme materials (such as nanomaterials, including precious metals, transition metals and non-metals) and enzyme substances (such as aryl acylamidase, polyphenol oxidase and horseradish peroxidase). Moreover, the influencing factors for AP electrochemical sensors and the simultaneous detection of AP and other targets are summarized, and the future prospective of AP electrochemical sensors is outlined. This review provides a reference and guidance for the development and application of electrochemical sensors for AP detection.

Abstract
This paper presents a new application of a lanthanum oxide (III)-modified carbon paste electrode (LaOX/CPE) for dopamine (DP) detection in the presence of ascorbic acid (AA). The presence of cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) facilitated the LaOX/CPE electrode's ability to detect DP amidst AA interference, resulting in a substantial 70.0% increase in the anodic peak current for DP when compared to the unmodified carbon paste electrode (CPE). CTAB enabled clear separation of the anodic peaks for DP and AA by nearly 0.2 V, despite their initially overlapping potential values, through the ion-dipole interaction of AA and CTAB. The electrode was characterized using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The method demonstrated a detection limit of 0.06 µmol/L with a relative standard deviation (RSD) of 6.0% (n = 15). Accuracy was assessed through the relative error and recovery percent, using urine samples spiked with known quantities of DP.

Abstract
Dopamine (DA) and uric acid (UA) are essential for many physiological processes in the human body. Abnormal levels of DA and UA can lead to multiple diseases, such as Parkinson's disease and gout. In this work, a three-dimensional reduced graphene oxide-MXene (3D rGO-Ti3C2) composite electrode was prepared using a simple one-step hydrothermal reduction process, which could separate the oxidation potentials of DA and UA, enabling the simultaneous detection of DA and UA. The 3D rGO-Ti3C2 electrode exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity towards both DA and UA. In 0.01 M PBS solution, the linear range of DA was 0.5-500 µM with a sensitivity of 0.74 µA·µM-1·cm-2 and a detection limit of 0.056 µM (S/N = 3), while the linear range of UA was 0.5-60 µM and 80-450 µM, with sensitivity of 2.96 and 0.81 µA·µM-1·cm-2, respectively, and a detection limit of 0.086 µM (S/N = 3). In 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS) solution, the linear range of DA was 0.5-500 µM with a sensitivity of 0.41 µA·µM-1·cm-2 and a detection limit of 0.091 µM (S/N = 3). The linear range of UA was 2-500 µM with a sensitivity of 0.11 µA·µM-1·cm-2 and a detection limit of 0.6 µM (S/N = 3). The modified electrode exhibited advantages such as high sensitivity, a strong anti-interference capability, and good repeatability. Furthermore, the modified electrode was successfully used for DA measurement in vivo. This could present a simple reliable route for neurotransmitter detection in neuroscience.

Abstract
Small biomolecules play a critical role in the fundamental processes that sustain life and are essential for the proper functioning of the human body. The detection of small biomolecules has garnered significant interest in various fields, including disease diagnosis and medicine. Electrochemical techniques are commonly employed in the detection of critical biomolecules through the principle of redox reactions. It is also a very convenient, cheap, simple, fast, and accurate measurement method in analytical chemistry. Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) are a unique type of metal-organic framework (MOF) composed of porous crystals with extended three-dimensional structures. These frameworks are made up of metal ions and imidazolate linkers, which form a highly porous and stable structure. In addition to their many advantages in other applications, ZIFs have emerged as promising candidates for electrochemical sensors. Their large surface area, pore diameter, and stability make them ideal for use in sensing applications, particularly in the detection of small molecules and ions. This review summarizes the critical role of small biomolecules in the human body, the standard features of electrochemical analysis, and the utilization of various types of ZIF materials (including carbon composites, metal-based composites, ZIF polymer materials, and ZIF-derived materials) for the detection of important small biomolecules in human body fluids. Lastly, we provide an overview of the current status, challenges, and future outlook for research on ZIF materials.

Abstract
Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins and muscle tissue. They also play a significant role in physiological processes related to energy, recovery, mood, muscle and brain function, fat burning and stimulating growth hormone or insulin secretion. Accurate determination of amino acids in biological fluids is necessary because any changes in their normal ranges in the body warn diseases like kidney disease, liver disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer. To date, many methods such as liquid chromatography, fluorescence mass spectrometry, etc. have been used for the determination of amino acids. Compared with the above techniques, electrochemical systems using modified electrodes offer a rapid, accurate, cheap, real-time analytical path through simple operations with high selectivity and sensitivity. Nanomaterials have found many interests to create smart electrochemical sensors in different application fields e.g. biomedical, environmental, and food analysis because of their exceptional properties. This review summarizes recent advances in the development of nanomaterial-based electrochemical sensors in 2017-2022 for the detection of amino acids in various matrices such as serum, urine, blood and pharmaceuticals.

Abstract
An electrochemical aptasensor developed to realize the detection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) bacteria based on a signal amplification strategy. The carbon screen-printed electrode (CSPE) surface was modified by MIL-101(Cr)/Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT), which significantly increased the effective surface area of the electrode, thus resulting in further F23 aptamer immobilization at the surface of the modified electrode. As a result, the P. aeruginosa can be efficiently captured onto the surface of the aptasensor. Moreover, aptamer immobilized on the two-dimensional graphitic carbon nitride complex with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs/c-g-C3N4/Apt) was used as an electrochemical signal label, connected to P. aeruginosa bacteria at the modified electrode. This strategy increased the aptamer surface density and the sensitivity for detecting P. aeruginosa. Also, the resultant material was thoroughly characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis techniques. A highly sensitive voltammetric aptasensor for P. aeruginosa detection was obtained via this strategy at the limit of detection of 1 Colony-forming unit (CFU)/mL (σ = 3). Therefore, this proposed strategy with dual signal amplification can be a promising platform for simple, practical, reliable, and sensitive method for P. aeruginosa.

Abstract
Cobalt hydroxide nanoparticles (Co(OH)2 NPs) were uniformly deposited on flexible carbon cloth substrate (Co(OH)2@CC) rapidly by a facile one-step electrodeposition, which can act as an enzyme-free glucose and uric acid sensor in an alkaline electrolyte. Compositional and morphological characterization were examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), which confirmed the deposited nanospheres were Co(OH)2 nanoparticles (NPs). The electrochemical oxidation of glucose and uric acid at Co(OH)2@CC electrode was investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), and chronoamperometry methods. The results revealed a remarkable electrocatalytic activity toward the single and simultaneous determination of glucose and uric acid at about 0.6 V and 0.3 V (vs. Ag/AgCl), respectively, which is attributed to a noticeable synergy effect between Co(OH)2 NPs and CC with good repeatability, satisfactory reproducibility, considerable long-term stability, superior selectivity, outstanding sensitivity, and wide linear detection range from 1 uM to 2 mM and 25 nM to 1.5 uM for glucose and UA, respectively. The detection limits were 0.36 nM for UA and 0.24 μM for glucose (S/N = 3). Finally, the Co(OH)2@CC electrode was utilized for glucose and uric acid determination in human blood samples and satisfying results were obtained. The relative standard derivations (RSDs) for glucose and UA were in the range 6 to 14% and 0 to 3%, respectively. The recovery ranges for glucose an UA were 97 to 103% and 95 and 101%, respectively. These features make the novel Co(OH)2@CC sensor developed by a low-cost, efficient, and eco-friendly preparation method a potentially practical candidate for application to biosensors.

Abstract
This study synthesized a La2O3@snowflake-like Cu2S composite to fabricate an electrochemical sensor for sensitively simultaneous detection of diclofenac and chlorzoxazone exploiting an easy hydrothermal approach, followed by analysis with XRD, FE-SEM, and EDX methods. According to voltammetric studies, the electrocatalytic diclofenac and chlorzoxazone oxidations on the electrode modified with La2O3@SF-L Cu2S composites were increased, with greater oxidation currents, as well as the oxidation potential was significantly decreased due to synergetic impact of La2O3@SF-L Cu2S composites when compared with the pure SF-L Cu2S NS-modified electrode. The differential pulse voltammetry findings showed wide straight lines (0.01–900.0 μM) for La2O3 NP@SF-L Cu2S NS-modified electrode with a limit of detection (LOD) of 1.7 and 2.3 nM for the detection of diclofenac and chlorzoxazone, respectively. In addition, the limit of quantification was calculated to be 5.7 and 7.6 nM for diclofenac and chlorzoxazone, respectively. The diffusion coefficient was calculated to be 1.16 × 10−5and 8.4 × 10−6 cm2/s for diclofenac and chlorzoxazone oxidation on the modified electrode, respectively. Our proposed electrode was examined for applicability by detecting diclofenac and chlorzoxazone in real specimens.

Abstract
AbstractThe modified electrode–analyte interaction is critical in establishing the sensing mechanism and in developing an electrochemical sensor. Here, the niacin-modified carbon paste electrode (NC/CPE) was fabricated for electrochemical sensing applications. The two stable structures of the niacin were optimized and confirmed by the absence of negative vibrational frequency, at B3LYP and B3LYP-GD3BJ level and 6–311 g** basis set. The physical and quantum chemical quantities were used to explain the molecular stability and electronic structure-related properties of the niacin. The natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis was performed to disclose the donor–acceptor interactions that were a critical role in explaining the modifier–analyte interaction. The fabricated NC/CPE was used for the determination of folic acid (FA) in physiological pH by cyclic voltammetry (CV) method. The limit of detection (LOD) for FA at NC/CPE was calculated to be 0.09 µM in the linear concentration range of 5.0 µM to 45.0 µM (0.2 M PBS, pH 7.4) by CV technique. The analytical applicability of the NC/CPE was evaluated in real samples, such as fruit juice and pharmaceutical sample, and the obtained results were acceptable. The HOMO and LUMO densities are used to identify the nucleophilic and electrophilic regions of niacin. The use of density functional theory-based quantum chemical simulations to understand the sensory performance of the modifier has laid a new foundation for fabricating electrochemical sensing platforms.

Abstract
Hydrogen sulfide is typical metabolic marker and environmental pollutant which is worthwhile to determine. Herein, a low background and high sensitivity fluorescent strategy based on double modifications of metal organic framework material CAU-10-NH2 is proposed for the determination of hydrogen sulfide. Firstly, a functional monomer 3,5-diaminobenzoic acid is employed to modify on the CAU-10-NH2, the product CAU-10-NH-dAba has strong fluorescent performance at 412 nm under an excitation wavelength of 320 nm. Subsequently, it is further modified by the azide group to form CAU-10-NH-dAba-N3. This azidation inhibits the fluorescent signal. However, in the presence of hydrogen sulfide, the azide group is specifically reduced to amidogen, and results in the recovery of the fluorescence. The CAU-10-NH-DABA-N3 was characterized by solid state NMR, XPS, fluorescence, IR, XRD, SEM and specific surface area. After the optimization of pH value, temperature and interaction time, the detection results of hydrogen sulfide demonstrate the linear range of this strategy is from 20 to 140 nM with a detection limit of 1.51 nM, which is significantly better than that of the CAU-10-NH2 merely modified by 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid. Meanwhile, the satisfactory assay results of hydrogen sulfide in serum sample and Pearl river water suggest a potential application prospect of this strategy in clinical diagnosis and environment monitoring.

Abstract
Paracetamol (PAR) is an effective antipyretic and analgesic drug utilized worldwide, safer at therapeutic levels but over-dosing and the chronic usage of PAR results in accumulation of toxic metabolites, which leads to kidney and liver damages. Hence, a simple, rapid, cost-effective, and sensitive analytical technique is needed for the accurate determination of PAR in pharmaceutical and biological samples. Though numerous techniques have been reported for PAR detection, electrochemical methods are being receiving more interest due to their advantages. Moreover, in the past few decades, room temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) have been utilized in electrochemical sensors due to their attractive properties. In this present review, authors gathered research findings available for the determination of PAR using RTIL-based electrochemical sensors and discussed. The advantages and limitations in these systems as well as the future research directions are summarized.

Abstract
The in vivo detection of small active molecules in plant tissues is essential for the development of precision agriculture. Tryptophan (Trp) is an important precursor material for auxin biosynthesis in plants, and the detection of Trp levels in plants is critical for regulating the plant growth process. In this study, an electrochemical plant sensor was fabricated by electrochemically depositing a polydopamine (PDA)/reduced graphene oxide (RGO)-MnO2 nanocomposite onto a glassy carbon electrode (GCE). PDA/RGO-MnO2/GCE exhibited high electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation of Trp owing to the combined selectivity of PDA and catalytic activity of RGO-MnO2. To address the pH variability of plants, a reliable Trp detection program was proposed for selecting an appropriate quantitative detection model for the pH of the plant or plant tissue of interest. Therefore, a series of linear regression curves was constructed in the pH range of 4.0-7.0 using the PDA/RGO-MnO2/GCE-based sensor. In this pH range, the linear detection range of Trp was 1-300 μM, the sensitivity was 0.39-1.66 μA μM-1, and the detection limit was 0.22-0.39 μM. Moreover, the practical applicability of the PDA/RGO-MnO2/GCE-based sensor was successfully demonstrated by determining Trp in tomato fruit and juice. This sensor stably and reliably detected Trp levels in tomatoes in vitro and in vivo, demonstrating the feasibility of this research strategy for the development of electrochemical sensors for measurements in various plant tissues.
