Abstract
BACKGROUND Functional training is essential for maintaining the independence of older adults, especially in rural areas with limited resources. In this study, we assess the short-term and long-term impacts of the Precision Functional Training (PFT) program on mobility outcomes, specifically walking performance, and cognitive ability in community-dwelling older adults. The unique feature of this training program was its countywide, community-based, and tailored approach, designed to strengthen the functional abilities of older adults living in rural areas. METHODS 158 older adults aged 65 years and above were assessed in this one-group pre-posttest study conducted in 11 community care stations in Chiayi County, Taiwan. Participants had two follow-ups, with data collection on mobility and cognition. The 12-week PFT program, led by certified trainers, integrated aerobic, strength, and cognitive elements. Primary outcomes, including changes in gait, falls, and cognition, were analyzed using linear mixed effects and logit models. RESULTS Strengthening mobility is critical to slowing functional decline in older adults. The PFT program led to significant improvements in cognitive function and several gait parameters compared with the baseline. Participants with limited mobility showed enhanced activities of daily living 1-month post-training, but these gains did not persist at the 1-year mark. No significant differences were observed in fall occurrence and knee extension strength. CONCLUSIONS The training did not have a long-term effect; thus, more frequent practice may be necessary. Risk assessment and community-based interventions, particularly for older adults with a higher risk of falls, are recommended. Future prospective randomized controlled trials are needed to evaluate the PFT program's effectiveness in preserving mobility.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Air pollution is recognized as a modifiable risk factor for dementia, and recent evidence suggests that improving air quality could attenuate cognitive decline and reduce dementia risk. However, studies have yet to explore the effects of improved air quality on brain structures. This study aims to investigate the impact of air pollution reduction on cognitive functions and structural brain differences among cognitively normal older adults. METHODS Four hundred and thirty-one cognitively normal older adults were from the Epidemiology of Mild Cognitive Impairment study in Taiwan (EMCIT), a community-based cohort of adults aged 60 and older, between year 2017- 2021. Annual concentrations of PM2.5, NO2, O3, and PM10 at participants' residential addresses during the 10 years before enrollment were estimated using ensemble mixed spatial models. The yearly rate of change (slope) in air pollutants was estimated for each participant. Cognitive functions and structural brain images were collected during enrollment. The relationships between the rate of air pollution change and cognitive functions were examined using linear regression models. For air pollutants with significant findings in relation to cognitive function, we further explored the association with brain structure. RESULTS Overall, all pollutant concentrations, except O3, decreased over the 10-year period. The yearly rates of change (slopes) in PM2.5 and NO2 were correlated with better attention (PM2.5: r = -0.1, p = 0.047; NO2: r = -0.1, p = 0.03) and higher white matter integrity in several brain regions. These regions included anterior thalamic radiation, superior longitudinal fasciculus, inferior longitudinal fasciculus, corticospinal tract, and inferior fronto-occipital fasciculus. CONCLUSIONS Greater rate of reduction in air pollution was associated with better attention and attention-related white matter integrity. These results provide insight into the mechanism underlying the relationship between air pollution, brain health, and cognitive aging among older adults.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a significant public health concern and a potential precursor to Alzheimer's disease (AD). This study leverages electronic health record (EHR) data to explore rural-urban differences in MCI incidence, risk factors, and healthcare navigation in West Michigan. METHODS Analysis was conducted on 1,528,464 patients from Corewell Health West, using face-to-face encounters between 1/1/2015 and 7/31/2022. MCI cases were identified using International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes, focusing on patients aged 45+ without prior MCI, dementia, or AD diagnoses. Incidence rates, cumulative incidences, primary care physicians (PCPs), and neuropsychology referral outcomes were examined across rural and urban areas. Risk factors were evaluated through univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses. The geographic distribution of patient counts, hospital locations, and neurology department referrals were examined. RESULTS Among 423,592 patients, a higher MCI incidence rate was observed in urban settings compared to rural settings (3.83 vs. 3.22 per 1,000 person-years). However, sensitivity analysis revealed higher incidence rates in rural areas when including patients who progressed directly to dementia. Urban patients demonstrated higher rates of referrals to and completion of neurological services. While the risk factors for MCI were largely similar across urban and rural populations, urban-specific factors for incident MCI are hearing loss, inflammatory bowel disease, obstructive sleep apnea, insomnia, being African American, and being underweight. Common risk factors include diabetes, intracranial injury, cerebrovascular disease, coronary artery disease, stroke, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, depression, and increased age. Lower risk was associated with being female, having a higher body mass index, and having a higher diastolic blood pressure. DISCUSSION This study highlights rural-urban differences in MCI incidence and access to care, suggesting potential underdiagnosis in rural areas likely due to reduced access to specialists. Future research should explore socioeconomic, environmental, and lifestyle determinants of MCI to refine prevention and management strategies across geographic settings. Abstract
OBJECTIVES Reliability of the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) are rarely examined among older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). This study aimed to investigate the test-retest reliability and minimal detectable change (MDC) of the SPPB in older adults with MCI. METHODS Participants included 100 older adults with MCI. The SPPB was assessed with the first 2 assessments separated by a 20-min interval and the third separated by a 1-week interval. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and MDC values were estimated. RESULTS The intraday ICC was 0.73 for the SPPB score, 0.90 for the 4-m walk time (4mwt), and 0.95 for the 5-times chair stand time (5cst); the corresponding interday ICC values were 0.76, 0.89, and 0.91, respectively. The MDC values ranged from 1.1 to 1.2 for the SPPB score, from 0.77 to 0.80 s for the 4mwt, and from 1.32 to 1.77 for the 5cst. CONCLUSIONS The SPPB had satisfactory reliability among older adults with MCI. The test-retest reliability of the SPPB is sufficient (>0.7) for group comparisons. Moreover, the test-retest reliability for the 4mwt and 5cst subscale performances is acceptable (> 0.9) for individual-level measurements over time.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Evidence remains limited and inconsistent for assessing cognitive function in Chinese older adults (CFCOA) and inequalities in cognitive function in Chinese older adults (ICFCOA) and exploring their influencing factors and gender differences. This study aimed to identify influencing factors and inequality in CFCOA to empirically explore the existence and sources of gender differences in such inequality and analyse their heterogeneous effects. METHODS Based on data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) for three periods from 2011 to 2015, recentered influence function unconditional quantile regression (RIF-UQR) and recentered influence function ordinary least squares (RIF-OLS) regression were applied to assess influencing factors of CFCOA, while grouped treatment effect estimation, Oaxaca-Blinder decomposition, and propensity score matching (PSM) methods were conducted to identify gender differences in ICFCOA and influencing factors, respectively. RESULTS The results showed heterogeneous effects of gender, age, low BMI, subjective health, smoking, education, social interactions, physical activity, and household registration on CFCOA. Additionally, on average, ICFCOA was about 19.2-36.0% higher among elderly females than among elderly males, mainly due to differences in characteristic effects and coefficient effects of factors such as marital status and education. CONCLUSIONS Different factors have heterogeneous and gender-differenced effects on CFCOA and ICFCOA, while the formation and exacerbation of ICFCOA were allied to marital status and education. Considering the severe ageing and the increasing incidence of cognitive decline, there is an urgent need for the government and society to adopt a comprehensive approach to practically work for promoting CFCOA and reducing ICFCOA.

Abstract
Thailand entered an aged society phase in 2000, with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and frailty becoming prevalent among the older adult population. However, no studies have yet examined these issues specifically within rural communities. This study aims to explore the relationship between frailty and MCI among older adults in rural Thailand. It was a cross-sectional study conducted between December 2022 and June 2023. A questionnaire was administered by trained village health volunteers. The survey targeted older adults aged 60 years and above, residing in rural Chiang Mai, Thailand, with those having a history of dementia, depression, and brain injury being excluded from participation. Nine hundred eighty-four participants among the older adults were available for analysis. The mean age was 69.8 (SD 7.9) with 62.2% females (n = 612). The median frequency of exercise was three days (0-7). The prevalence of MCI and frailty among rural older adults in the community was 35.6% (n = 350) and 8% (n = 79), respectively. There were four factors associated with an increased risk of MCI, including age (aOR = 1.07, 95% CI 1.04-1.09, p < 0.001), smoking cigarettes (aOR 1.95, 95% CI 1.27-2.98, p = 0.002), feelings of loneliness (aOR 1.43, 95% CI 1.01-2.03, p = 0.043), and the presence of frailty (aOR 1.92, 95% CI 1.10-3.35, p = 0.022). There were two factors associated with a lower risk of MCI: a higher education level (aOR 0.90, 95% CI 0.86-0.94, p <0.001) and engaging in frequent exercise (aOR 0.9, 95% CI 0.86-0.95, p < 0.001). Frailty exhibited an association with an elevated risk of MCI among older adults in rural communities. Enhancing screening through health volunteers and primary healthcare professionals, coupled with bolstering community-driven health promotion initiatives, becomes imperative.

Abstract
The mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia in rural areas are increasingly attracting public attention. However, their prevalence is still unclear. This study aims to reveal the distribution of MCI and dementia in rural areas. We systematically searched PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and PsycINFO up to June 2023 for cohort and cross-sectional studies. Meta-analysis was conducted using random-effects models to evaluate the prevalence of MCI and dementia. Thirty-five studies with 16,936 participants met the inclusion criteria. The pooled prevalence of MCI and dementia was 27 % (n = 12, 95 %CI = 0.21-0.32, I2 = 99.5 %, P < 0.001) and 7 % (n = 27, 95 %CI = 0.05-0.08, I2 = 99.30 %, P < 0.001), respectively. Subgroup analyses revealed that aged 60 years or older [(MCI: 29 %, 95 %CI = 0.20-0.38, I2 = 99.7 %, P < 0.001), (dementia: 9 % (95 %CI = 0.06-0.12, I2 = 99 %, P < 0.001)], female [(MCI: 29 %, 95 %CI = 0.19-0.40, I2 = 99.3 %, P < 0.001), (dementia: 7 %, 95 % CI = 0.04-0.12, I2 = 98.66 %, P < 0.001)], a-MCI (19 %, 95 %CI = 0.12-0.26, I2 = 97.62 %, P < 0.001) and AD (4 %, 95 %CI = 0.02-0.05, I2 = 98.60 %, P < 0.001) showed higher prevalence. The prevalence of MCI and dementia in rural China was 23 % (95 %CI = 0.18-0.29, I2 = 99.5 %, P < 0.001) and 6 % (95 %CI = 0.04-0.08, I2 = 99.6 %, P < 0.001), respectively. Implementing cognitive impairment screening and intervention measures is necessary to improve the cognitive function of the rural population.

Abstract
Background Recent reports suggest that by 2050 there will be an increase of around 310% of cases affected by dementia in Latin American countries. A previous study in a Southern region reported one of the highest prevalences of dementia in Latin America. Objective To investigate the prevalence of mild cognitive impairment associated with low education, rurality, and demographic characteristics. Methods A cross-sectional study recruited a community-dwelling sample of 823 adults from rural and urban areas of two Southern provinces of Colombia from 2020-2022. Participants were assessed with a neuropsychological protocol validated in Colombia. To obtain general and region-specific prevalence rates, age, sex, schooling, and socioeconomic level were considered and controlled for. Results Most of the participants reported low education and socioeconomic level, the participation of women was higher. It was determined that the prevalence of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) was 53.6%, with 56.6% in the province of Caquetá followed by 51.9% in the province of Huila. The amnestic MCI represented 42.6%, the amnestic multi-domain was 39%, the non-amnestic 16.55%, and the non-amnestic multi-domain 1.81%. Our participants reported comorbidities such as diabetes and hypertension. We also observed a relationship between exposure to pesticides and MCI. Conclusions We observed one of the highest prevalences of MCI in Latin America reported to date. Variables such as age, gender, and education proved risk factors for MCI in the explored regions. Our findings are very much in line with recent studies that highlight the influence of non-canonical risk factors of dementia in underrepresented countries from Latin America.

Abstract
Introduction The microbiota-gut-brain axis is implicated in Alzheimer's disease. Gut microbiota alterations in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) are inconsistent and remain to be understood. This study aims to investigate the gut microbial composition associated with MCI, cognitive functions, and structural brain differences. Methods A nested case-control study was conducted in a community-based prospective cohort where detailed cognitive functions and structural brain images were collected. Thirty-one individuals with MCI were matched to sixty-five cognitively normal controls by age strata, gender, and urban/rural area. Fecal samples were examined using 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) V3-V4 sequencing. Compositional differences between the two groups were identified and correlated with the cognitive functions and volumes/thickness of brain structures. Results There was no significant difference in alpha and beta diversity between MCIs and cognitively normal older adults. However, the abundance of the genus Ruminococcus, Butyricimonas, and Oxalobacter decreased in MCI patients, while an increased abundance of nine other genera, such as Flavonifractor, were found in MCIs. Altered genera discriminated MCI patients well from controls (AUC = 84.0%) and were associated with attention and executive function. Conclusion This study provides insights into the role of gut microbiota in the neurodegenerative process.

Abstract
BACKGROUND /Purpose: This study aimed to explore the association of subclinical depressive symptoms and sleep with cognition in community-dwelling Taiwanese older adults. METHODS This four-year prospective cohort study (2015-2019) included 379 participants aged 65 years or older from the annual senior health checkup program at National Taiwan University Hospital who were followed up two years later. Global and domain cognitive functions were assessed using validated neuropsychological tests. Depressive symptoms were evaluated using the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression (CES-D) Scale. Sleep quality was evaluated using the Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Excessive daytime sleepiness was assessed using the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS). Generalized linear mixed models were used to explore the associations of subclinical depressive symptoms and sleep variables with cognition, adjusting for important covariates. Stratification analyses were performed using the sleep variables. RESULTS Over time, depressive symptoms were associated with poor performance of memory (βˆ = 0.24, P = 0.04) and executive function (βˆ = -0.24, P = 0.03). Poor sleep quality (elevated PSQI score) was associated with poor memory performance (βˆ = -0.04 to -0.03, P < 0.05). Excessive daytime sleepiness (elevated ESS score) was associated with poor performance of memory (βˆ = -0.02, P < 0.05) and executive function (βˆ = -0.02, P = 0.001). At baseline, better sleep quality and no excessive daytime sleepiness were associated with better memory performance over time. CONCLUSION Subclinical depressive symptoms, worse sleep quality, and excessive daytime sleepiness were differentially associated with impairment of cognitive domains (mainly memory and executive function).

Abstract
BACKGROUND This research aimed to investigate the associations of anthropometric measurements, physiological parameters, chronic disease comorbidities, and social and lifestyle factors with cognitive function amongst community-dwelling older adults in Taiwan. METHODS This was an observational, cross-sectional study involving 4,578 participants at least 65 years old, recruited between January 2008 and December 2018 from the Annual Geriatric Health Examinations Program. Cognitive function was assessed using the short portable mental state questionnaire (SPMSQ). Multivariable logistic regression was done to analyze the factors associated with cognitive impairment. RESULTS Among the 4,578 participants, 103 people (2.3%) with cognitive impairment were identified. Associated factors were age (odds ratio (OR) = 1.16, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.13,1.20), male gender (OR = 0.39, 95% CI = 0.21,0.72), diabetes mellitus (DM) (OR = 1.70, 95% CI = 1.03, 2.82), hyperlipidemia (OR = 0.47, 95% CI = 0.25, 0.89), exercise (OR = 0.44, 95% CI = 0.34, 0.56), albumin (OR = 0.37, 95% CI = 0.15, 0.88), and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) (OR = 0.98, 95% CI = 0.97, 1.00). Whereas waistline, alcohol intake in recent six months, and hemoglobin was not significantly associated with cognitive impairment (all p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggested that people with older age and a history of DM had a higher risk of cognitive impairment. Male gender, a history of hyperlipidemia, exercise, a high albumin level, and a high HDL level seemed to be associated with a lower risk of cognitive impairment amongst older adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cf-PWV), an index of mainly distal aortic stiffness, has been inconsistently associated with cognitive function. Excess pressure, derived from the arterial reservoir-excess pressure analysis, may integrate the pulsatile load of the proximal aorta. The present study examined whether increased excess pressure is associated with cognitive function impairment in community adults. METHODS A total of 992 community participants (69.5% females; mean age: 67.3 years; education 13.6 years) without cerebrovascular disease or dementia received the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) to evaluate global cognition. Arterial reservoir and excess pressure, arterial stiffness, and wave reflections were assessed, using carotid tonometry and aortic Doppler flowmetry. RESULTS Excess pressure integral (XSPI), percentage XSPI, cf-PWV, characteristic impedance (Zc), and forward and backward pressure amplitude (Pf, Pb, respectively) were significantly higher in 197 participants (19.9%) with a low MoCA score (<26 or <25, depending on level of education). In multivariable analyses, XSPI (standardized odds ratio, 95% confidence interval, 1.30, 1.06-1.59), and percentage XSPI (1.27, 1.06-1.52) but not cf-PWV (1.04, 0.85-1.26) were significantly associated with a low MoCA. Further analysis revealed that Pf and Zc were the major determinants of XSPI (partial R2: Pf = 0.656, Zc = 0.467) and percentage XSPI (Pf = 0.459, Zc = 0.371). In contrast, age, instead of Pf and Zc, was the major determinant of cf-PWV (partial R2: age = 0.187). CONCLUSIONS Excess pressure (XSPI/percentage XSPI), mainly determined by the pulsatile hemodynamics of the proximal aorta, was significantly associated with cognitive function impairment in middle-aged and elderly community adults.

Abstract
Mild cognitive or neurocognitive impairment (MCI) may be more prevalent in rural areas. Differences between rural and urban MCI patients in terms of risk factors, course and prognosis are rarely reported. The present review aims to summarize the latest research on MCI in rural areas. A literature search was performed in the databases of PubMed, Scopus and ScienceDirect for articles published over the last decade. Eleven articles were included in this review, reporting on the differences between rural and urban MCI patients. Several risk factors, such as older age, lack of activities and food insecurity have been associated with MCI in both rural and urban areas, whereas others, such as obesity, adverse childhood experiences and plasma chemokine C-C motif ligand 11 (considered as a potential negative regulator of neurogenesis), differed according to the place of residence. No specific protective factor for rural women has been reported. There is some evidence that MCI may present earlier in rural residents, but that progression to dementia may be more rapid in urban residents. It seems that there may be clinically relevant differences in the onset, course and prognosis of MCI with regards to the place of residence (urban vs rural). Those differences should be taken into account for the design of health policies and service delivery across different settings.

Abstract
This cross-sectional study was conducted to clarify the association between oral frailty (OF) and physical frailty (PF). In total, 308 Taiwanese middle-old (75−84 years) community-dwelling people with cognitive decline were recruited from random rural community health care centers. Eight items were considered for the evaluation of their OF status. The Study of Osteoporotic Fracture index was used for frailty assessment, which revealed that 22% of the participants had PF. In an adjusted model, PF was significantly associated with the OF subdomains of difficult to eat hard food (p = 0.009), choking (p = 0.008), denture use (p = 0.008), and inability to chew hard food (p = 0.001); and high risk of OF (OR = 3.03; p = 0.002). After eight steps with elimination of the least significant independent variable, age (p= 0.008), self-reported health status of fair (p = 0.000) and poor (p = 0.000), mild cognitive impairment (p < 0.001) and denture use (p = 0.011) were found to be the indispensable predictors for PF. The logistic regression model with 5 indispensable variables had a predictive value of 78.2%. Longitudinal analyses are needed to examine whether OF is a risk factor for PF onset.

Abstract
Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a syndrome characterized by a decline in cognitive performance greater than expected for an individual's age and education level, but that does not interfere much with daily life activities. Establishing the prevalence of MCI is very important for both clinical and research fields. In fact, in a certain percentage of cases, MCI represents a prodromal condition for the development of dementia. Accordingly, it is important to identify the characteristics of MCI that allow us to predict the development of dementia. Also, initial detection of cognitive decline can allow the early implementation of prevention programs aimed at counteracting or slowing it down. To this end, it is important to have a clear picture of the prevalence of MCI and, consequently, of the diagnostic criteria used. According to these issues, this systematic review aims to analyze MCI prevalence, exploring the methods for diagnosing MCI that determine its prevalence. The review process was conducted according to the PRISMA statement. Three thousand one hundred twenty-one international articles were screened, and sixty-six were retained. In these studies, which involved 157,035 subjects, the prevalence of MCI ranged from 1.2 to 87%. The review results showed a large heterogeneity among studies due to differences in the subjects' recruitment, the diagnostic criteria, the assessed cognitive domains, and other methodological aspects that account for a higher range of MCI prevalence. This large heterogeneity prevents drawing any firm conclusion about the prevalence of MCI.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The evolution of cognitive impairment of vascular origin is increasingly becoming a prominent health threat particularly in this era where hypertension is the leading contributor of global disease burden and overall health loss. Hypertension is associated with the alteration of the cerebral microcirculation coupled by unfavorable vascular remodeling with consequential slowing of mental processing speed, reduced abstract reasoning, loss of linguistic abilities, and attention and memory deficits. Owing to the rapidly rising burden of hypertension in Tanzania, we sought to assess the prevalence and correlates of cognitive impairment among hypertensive patients attending a tertiary cardiovascular hospital in Tanzania. METHODOLOGY A hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted at Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute, a tertiary care public teaching hospital in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania between March 2020 and February 2021. A consecutive sampling method was utilized to recruit consented hypertensive outpatients during their scheduled clinic visit. General Practitioner Assessment of Cognition (GPCOG) Score was utilized in the assessment of cognitive functions. All statistical analyses utilized STATA v11.0 software. Pearson Chi square and Student's T-test were used to compare categorical and continuous variables respectively. Logistic regression analyses were used to assess for factors associated with cognitive impairment. Odd ratios with 95% confidence intervals and p-values are reported. All tests were 2-sided and p < 0.05 was used to denote a statistical significance. RESULTS A total of 1201 hypertensive patients were enrolled in this study. The mean age was 58.1 years and females constituted nearly two-thirds of the study population. About three quarters had excess body weight, 16.6% had diabetes, 7.7% had history of stroke, 5.7% had heart failure, 16.7% had renal dysfunction, 53.7% had anemia, 27.7% had hypertriglyceridemia, 38.5% had elevated LDL, and 2.4% were HIV-infected. Nearly two-thirds of participants had uncontrolled blood pressure and 8.7% had orthostatic hypotension. Overall, 524 (43.6%) of participants had cognitive impairment. During bivariate analysis in a logistic regression model of 16 characteristics, 14 parameters showed association with cognitive functions. However, after controlling for confounders, multivariate analysis revealed ≤primary education (OR 3.5, 95%CI 2.4-5.2, p < 0.001), unemployed state (OR 1.7, 95%CI 1.2-2.6, p < 0.01), rural habitation (OR 1.8, 95%CI 1.1-2.9, p = 0.01) and renal dysfunction (OR 1.7, 95%CI 1.0-2.7, p = 0.04) to have independent association with cognitive impairment. CONCLUSION This present study underscore that cognitive decline is considerably prevalent among individuals with systemic hypertension. In view of this, it is pivotal to incorporate cognitive assessment in routine evaluation of hypertensive patients.

Abstract
Reablement services are approaches for maintaining and improving the functional independence of older adults. Previous reablement studies were conducted in a home environment. Due to the limited evidence on the effects of multicomponent interventions and reablement in a community-based context, this study aimed to develop and evaluate the effect of community-based physical-cognitive training, health education, and reablement (PCHER) among rural community-dwelling older adults with mobility deficits. The trial was conducted in rural areas of New Taipei City, Taiwan. Older adults with mild to moderate mobility deficits were recruited from six adult daycare centers, and a cluster assignment was applied in a counterbalanced order. The experimental group (n = 16) received a PCHER intervention, comprising 1.5 h of group courses and 1 h of individualized reablement training, while the control group (n = 12) underwent PCHE intervention, comprising 1.5 h of group courses and 1 h of placebo treatment. A 2.5-h training session was completed weekly for 10 weeks. The outcome measures contained the de Morton Mobility Index (DEMMI), the Saint Louis University Mental Status (SLUMS) Examination, the Barthel Index (BI), the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB), and the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM). The PCHER significantly improved the DEMMI, SLUMS, BI, SPPB, and COPM (all p < 0.05), with medium-to-large effect sizes. PCHER also showed an advantage over PCHE in terms of the SPPB (p = 0.02). This study verified that combining individualized reablement with group-based multicomponent training was superior to group courses alone in enhancing the functional abilities of community-dwelling older adults with mobility deficits.
