Abstract
Vanillin is a commonly used synthetic flavoring agent in daily life. However, excessive intake of vanillin may pose risks to human health. Therefore, there is an urgent need for rapid and sensitive detection methods for vanillin. In this study, we developed a fluorescent sensor based on Cd-MOF for the sensitive and selective recognition of vanillin. The presence of vanillin leads to significant fluorescence quenching of Cd-MOF due to competitive absorption and photoinduced electron transfer (PET). The limit of detection was determined to be 39.6 nM, which is the lowest-among the reported fluorescent probes. The sensor was successfully applied for the detection of vanillin in real samples such as powdered milk and milk, with a recovery rate ranging from 96.88 % to 104.83 %. Furthermore, by immobilizing the Cd-MOF probe into a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) film, we achieved a portable and visual detection composite materials for vanillin.

Abstract
Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs), as an important class of environmental pollutants, have chemical and structural similarities that make their detection a great technical challenge. This study synthesized three species of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) using different lanthanide metal ions or organic ligands, which were integrated into a fluorescent sensor array. This innovative approach offers a straightforward, rapid, and precise detection strategy for PFCs. Different ionization properties and fluorinated hydrophobic tails of PFCs lead to different electrostatic attraction and hydrophobic effects between PFCs and sensing elements, which become the basis for differential sensing. Furthermore, the fluorescence signal is more convenient to collect, making the sensor array simple to complete the identification. Combined with pattern recognition methods, the array successfully identified seven kinds of PFCs and mixtures with a classification accuracy of 100 % and a detection limit as low as 51 nM. Finally, the utility of the sensor array in river water sample analysis was verified. The strategy provides an effective method for identifying and determining PFCs and offers new opportunities for developing sensor arrays based on lanthanide MOFs.

Abstract
Lanthanide metal-organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) have unique advantages in sensing due to their excellent optical properties. In this study, we synthesized a dicarboxylic acid ligand with amide groups and successfully synthesized a novel two-dimensional (2D) MOF with the molecular formula C42H31EuN4O10 (Eu-MOF) by a solvothermal method. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction showed that amide groups are exposed on the outside of the two-dimensional coordination layer, with the possibility of recognizing specific molecules through hydrogen bonding interactions. The ligand's "antenna effect" enables Eu-MOF to emit a strong luminescence characterized by the "f-f" transition. Further studies have revealed that Eu-MOF could be used as a bifunctional fluorescent probe for the selective detection of benzaldehyde and Fe3+. The sensing mechanism has been analyzed in detail through powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) analysis, UV-vis spectroscopy, fluorescence lifetime measurement, and density functional (DFT) theory calculation. This design and research can provide a reference for subsequent related work.

Abstract
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are a class of hazardous gases that are widely present in the atmosphere and cause great harm to human health. In this paper, a ratiometric fluorescent probe (Dye@Eu-MOFs) based on a dye-functionalized metal-organic framework was designed to detect VOCs, which showed high sensitivity and specificity for acetaldehyde solution and vapor. A linear correlation between the integrated fluorescence intensity (I510/I616) and the concentration of acetaldehyde was investigated, enabling a quantitative analysis of acetaldehyde in the ranges of 1 × 10-4~10-5 μL/mL, with a low detection limit of 8.12 × 10-4 mg/L. The selective recognition of acetaldehyde could be clearly distinguished by the naked eye under the excitation of UV light. The potential sensing mechanism was also discussed. Significantly, a molecular logic gate was constructed based on the whole system, and finally, a molecular logic network system for acetaldehyde detection connecting basic and integrated logic operations was realized. This strategy provided an effective guiding method for constructing a molecular-level logic gate for acetaldehyde detection on a simple platform.

Abstract
A photoluminescent terbium (III)-based Metal Organic Framework (MOF) was synthesized at room temperature by layer diffusion method utilizing mixed carboxylate linkers (4,4'-oxybis(benzoic acid) and benzene-1,3,5 tricarboxylic acid). Synthesized MOF has crystalline nature and rod-shaped morphology and is thermally stable up to 455 °C. The fluorescence emission spectra and theoretical results revealed that carboxylate linkers functioned as sensitizers for Tb(III) photoluminescence which resulted in four distinct emission peaks at 495, 547, 584, and 621 nm corresponding to the transitions 5D4 → 7F6, 5D4 → 7F5, 5D4 → 7F4, and 5D4 → 7F3. Using synthesized MOF as fluorescent probe, hydroquinone was detected in aqueous medium with a detection limit of 0.048 μM, remarkable recovery (95.6-101.1%), and relative standard deviation less than 2.25%. The quenching phenomenon may be ascribed to electron transfer from synthesized probe to oxidized hydroquinone via carboxylic groups on the surface of MOF, which is further supported by photo-induced electron transfer mechanism. This study introduces a cheaper, faster, and more accurate method for hydroquinone detection.

Abstract
Clenbuterol (CLB) as an illegal feed additive may cause a great security risk to food safety. However, convenient and efficient detection means for CLB in practical application remain a formidable challenge. Herein, a stable Eu-based organic framework {[H2N(CH3)2]2[Eu2(ttca)2]·H2O}n (compound 1) (H4ttca = [1,1':2',1″-terphenyl]-4,4',4″,5'-tetracarboxylic acid) has been harvested, exhibiting excellent chemical stability and thermal stability. Luminescence investigation reveals that compound 1 can sensitively and selectively detect CLB without being affected by different components from simulated serum and urine (limit detection: 22.7 nM). Furthermore, sensor 1 can also be applicable to CLB recognition in real swine feeds, presenting excellent anti-interference performance. The good cyclicity of compound 1 endows CLB determination with many advantages: low cost, high stability, and simplicity. Importantly, in view of the indication of the luminescence color (red to blue), test membranes were fabricated and employed for convenient and fast CLB detection, providing a valuable scheme for the visual monitoring of CLB in meat products. This work enriches rare earth metal compounds and luminescence sensor portfolios and breaks the concentration record (nM) for detecting CLB compared with reported complex materials, providing an effective monitoring platform for CLB visually.

Abstract
Organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs) such as parathion have extensive uses in agriculture and household applications. Chronic exposure to these pesticides can cause severe health and environmental issues. Therefore, a current ecological concern is associated with accumulating these noxious OPPs in food and water sources. In this work, a new Tb3+-doped Zn-LMOF (Zn-LMOF= (3D) {[Zn3(1,4 benzenedicarboxylate)3(EtOH)2]·(EtOH)0.6}∞) was synthesized by a solvent-free reaction between the Zn-LMOF and the salt TbCl3·6H2O using a high-speed ball milling. The Tb@Zn-LMOF was thoroughly characterized by multiple spectroscopic tools, including Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy, and studied in-depth as a luminescent sensor for a series of pesticides (parathion, malathion, methalaxil, carbofuran, iprodione, captan and glyphosate) in aqueous methanol. The Tb@Zn-LMOF is a long-lived green-emitting compound with luminescence originated by an efficient antenna effect from the excited energy levels of Zn-LMOF toward the 5D state of Tb3+ ions, as it is displayed by its strong emission bands at 488, 545, 585, and 620 nm and a lifetime of 1.01 ms upon excitation at 290 nm. Additions of pesticides to a neutral methanolic dispersion of Tb@Zn-LMOF modified its green emission intensity with a pronounced selectivity toward parathion within the micromolar concentration range. The detection limit for parathion was calculated to be 3.04 ± 0.2 μM for Tb@Zn-LMOF. Based on 31P NMR and mass spectrometry studies, it is attributed to the release of lanthanide ions from Tb@Zn-LMOF with the simultaneous formation of a Tb3+-parathion complex.

Abstract
The detection of antibiotic residues is of great significance in monitoring their overuse in healthcare, livestock and poultry farming, and agricultural production. Herein, EuCl3 and 4,4'-dicarboxyl-diphenoxyethene (H2DPOE) ionothermally reacted in 1-methyl-3-butylimidazolium chloride to give a europium metal-organic framework (Eu-DPOE). Eu-DPOE shows different fluorescence quenching rates for sensing eight antibiotics under different excitation wavelengths. Eu-DPOE displays a fast response, high selectivity, and sensitivity in antibiotic detection by fluorescence quenching. Eu-DPOE can sensitively detect TCs (tetracyclines), NOR (norfloxacin), NFT (furazolidone), ODZ (ornidazole), SDZ (sulfadiazine), and CHL (chloramphenicol) with limits of detection below 0.5 μmol/L. It provides a convenient and rapid tool for sensing antibiotics in aqueous solution. The detection mechanism is a competition absorption between DPOE2- and antibiotics with the supports from powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), UV-vis spectra, and fluorescence lifetime. With a composite membrane of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) matrix loading Eu-DPOE (Eu-DPOE@PVDF), Eu-DPOE@PVDF exhibits a visual fluorescence response to NOR under a 254 nm UV lamp and NFT and CTC under 365 nm. Eu-DPOE@PVDF is applied in the quantitative detection of CTC, NOR, and NFT in lake water with recovery rates ranging from 88.37 to 113.8%. Totally, fluorescence-quenched Eu-DPOE@PVDF exhibits a fast response, high selectivity, and sensitivity in sensing CTC, NOR, and NFT.

Abstract
Styrene, a prevalent volatile organic compounds (VOCs), is very harmful to atmosphere and humans. Consequently, the development of efficient detection technologies for styrene is of high importance, which is still in challenge! In this work, we crafted a layered double hydroxide (LDH) porous film-coated gold nanoarray, designed to act as a surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) chip for the efficient and portable detection of gaseous styrene. This chip features a covering layer composed of cross-linked LDH nanosheets, notable for their porous structure and high specific surface area. When the covering layer is 100-300 nm in thickness, this composite chip has significant enrichment effect and strong SERS performance to gaseous styrene with a lowest detectable concentration below 1 ppb (4.64 ×10-3 mg/m3), and can response within 10 s, showing the rapid response and high sensitivity. Additionally, the chip has strong anti-interference capabilities and maintains excellent response to styrene, even in mixed benzene-VOCs gases. The exceptional SERS performances of this chip is ascribed to its LDH covering layer-induced styrene-enrichment and structurally-enhanced SERS performances. This study provides a simple route and practical chip for the rapid and ultrasensitive SERS-based detection of gaseous styrene, which is also potentially beneficial for the detection of other gaseous VOCs.

Abstract
In this study, a red-green dual-emitting fluorescent composite (RhB@MOFs) was constructed by introducing the red-emitting organic fluorescent dye rhodamine B (RhB) into metal-organic frameworks (Tb-MOFs). The sample can be used as a ratiometric fluorescent probe, which not only avoids errors caused by instrument and environmental instability but also has multiple applications in detection. The results indicated that the RhB@MOFs exhibited a turned-off response toward Fe3+ and a turned-on response for the continuous detection of ascorbic acid (AA). This ratiometric fluorescent probe possessed high sensitivity and excellent selectivity in the continuous determination of Fe3+ and AA. It is worth mentioning that remarkable fluorescence change could be clearly observed by the naked eye under a UV lamp, which is more convenient in applications. In addition, the mechanisms of Fe3+- and AA-induced fluorescence quench and recovery are discussed in detail. This ratiometric probe displayed outstanding recognition of heavy metal ions and biomolecules, providing potential applications for water quality monitoring and biomolecule determination.

Abstract
A novel fluorescent probe (C460@Tb-MOFs) was designed and synthesized by encapsulating the fluorescent dye 7-diethylamino-4-methyl coumarin (C460) into a terbium-based metal-organic framework using a simple ultrasonic impregnation method. It is impressive that this dye-modified metal-organic framework can specifically detect styrene and temperature upon luminescence quenching. The sensing platform of this material exhibits great selectivity, fast response, and good cyclability toward styrene detection. It is worth mentioning that the sensing process undergoes a distinct color change from blue to colorless, providing conditions for the accurate visual detection of styrene liquid and gas. The significant fluorescence quenching mechanism of styrene toward C460@Tb-MOFs is explored in detail. Moreover, the dye-modified metal-organic framework can also achieve temperature sensing from 298 to 498 K with high relative sensitivity at 498 K. The preparation of functionalized MOF composites with fluorescent dyes provides an effective strategy for the construction of sensors for multifunctional applications.

Abstract
A lanthanide terbium/europium metal-organic framework (Tb0.6Eu0.4-MOF) was prepared by one-step solvothermal method at room temperature. A series of characterizations including scanning electron microscopy, powder X-ray diffraction spectra, Fourier transform infrared spectra and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were carried out to clarify the physical characteristics of the synthesized material. The data clarified that the prepared Tb0.6Eu0.4-MOF possessed rod-like morphology with a width of 1-2 μm, and had good crystal structure, good stability, response speed and excitation-independent emission feature. The bunchy Tb0.6Eu0.4-MOF was then used to construct fluorescent sensors for rapid identification of malachite green and sulfamerazine. It was revealed that the detection mechanism was inner filter effect. The effects of different parameters such as excitation wavelength and incubation times were investigated on the fluorescence analysis performance. The data clarified that the optimal excitation wavelength and incubation time was 240 nm and 3 min, respectively. The detection platform exhibited the high sensitivity and selectivity toward malachite green in the linear range of 2-180 μM and determined limit of detection was 1.12 μM. Besides, the proposed sensor allowed sensitive detection of sulfamerazine in the linear range of 2-140 μM with a low detection limit of 0.1 μM. Meaningfully, a smartphone application was designed to assist the proposed sensor to realize visual, intelligent and rapid detection of malachite green and sulfamerazine. Furthermore, the practical application of the proposed sensor has been also verified by high performance liquid chromatography, showing good accuracy, sensitivity and satisfactory recoveries. The results suggested that the Tb0.6Eu0.4-MOF-based ratiometric fluorescent sensor had the potential to become a promising technique for rapid detection of malachite green or sulfamerazine with smartphone application. Therefore, the prepared Tb0.6Eu0.4-MOF is one kind of efficient and cost-effective potential materials for developing fluorescent sensor for rapid, sensitive and selective detection of sulfamerazine and malachite.

Abstract
The development of probes with sensitive and prompt detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is of great importance for protecting human health and public security. Herein, we successfully prepared a series of bimetallic lanthanide metal-organic framework (Eu/Zr-UiO-66) by incorporating Eu3+ for fluorescence sensing of VOCs (especially styrene and cyclohexanone) using a one-pot method. Based on the multiple fluorescence signal responses of Eu/Zr-UiO-66 toward styrene and cyclohexanone, a ratiometric fluorescence probe using (I617/I320) and (I617/I330) as output signals was developed to recognize styrene and cyclohexanone, respectively. Benefitting from the multiple fluorescence response, the limits of detection (LODs) of Eu/Zr-UiO-66 (1:9) for styrene and cyclohexanone were 1.5 and 2.5 ppm, respectively. These are among the lowest reported levels for MOF-based sensors, and this is the first known material for fluorescence sensing of cyclohexanone. Fluorescence quenching by styrene was mainly owing to the large electronegativity of styrene and fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET). However, FRET was accounted for fluorescence quenching by cyclohexanone. Moreover, Eu/Zr-UiO-66 (1:9) exhibited good anti-interference ability and recycling performance for styrene and cyclohexanone. More importantly, the visual recognition of styrene and EB vapor can be directly realized with the naked eyes using Eu/Zr-UiO-66 (1:9) test strips. This strategy provides a sensitive, selective, and reliable method for the visual sensing of styrene and cyclohexanone.

Abstract
Continuous accumulation of Al3+ in the human body and unintended leakage of UO22+ have posed a great threat to human health and the global environment; thus searching an efficient probe for the detection of Al3+ and UO22+ is of great importance. Herein, we designed and synthesized two hydrolytically stable Eu3+- and Tb3+-functionalized MOF materials Eu@MOF-808-TDA and Tb@MOF-808-TDA via thiodiglycolic acid (TDA) intermediates by the postsynthetic modification method. Among them, Tb@MOF-808-TDA was applied to construct numerical recognition systems of multiples of three and four by the combination of fluorescent signals, hierarchical cluster analysis, and logical gates. In addition, Tb@MOF-808-TDA exhibits good selectivity and sensitivity for the detection of Al3+ and UO22+. The detection limit is calculated to be 0.085 ppm for Al3+ and 0.082 ppm for UO22+ in aqueous solutions, which is lower than or close to that of latest reported Ln-MOFs. Moreover, the probe shows excellent hydrolytic stability and luminescence stability in the pH range of 4-11, further providing solid evidence for the practical application of Tb@MOF-808-TDA. More importantly, a mixed matrix hydrogel PVA-Tb@MOF-808-TDA was prepared to achieve the visual detection of Al3+, which broadens the potential in real-world sensing applications.

Abstract
The incidence and mortality due to neoplastic diseases have shown an increasing tendency over the years. Based on GLOBOCAN 2020 published by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), leukemias are the thirteenth most commonly diagnosed cancer in the world, with 78.6% of leukemia cases diagnosed in countries with a very high or high Human Development Index (HDI). Carcinogenesis is a complex process initiated by a mutation in DNA that may be caused by chemical carcinogens present in polluted environments and human diet. The IARC has identified 122 human carcinogens, e.g., benzene, formaldehyde, pentachlorophenol, and 93 probable human carcinogens, e.g., styrene, diazinone. The aim of the following review is to present the chemical carcinogens involved or likely to be involved in the pathogenesis of leukemia and to summarize the latest reports on the possibility of detecting these compounds in the environment or food with the use of electrochemical sensors.

Abstract
In recent years, the irrational use of antibiotics has become very widespread. It is necessary to regulate this phenomenon through antibiotic detection. In this work, a series of isomorphic Ln-MOFs (Ln = Tb3+ and Eu3+) were synthesized from 1,3,5-tri(4-carboxyphenyl)benzene (H3L) and Ln3+ by the solvothermal method for the first time. A series of 1-EuxTb1-x with different luminescence were doped by changing the molar ratio of Tb3+ and Eu3+. Ln3+ forms a 4-connected 2D network structure through self-assembly with fully deprotonated L3-. It shows good chemical stability in water, and its luminescence is not affected by aqueous solutions with different pH values. 1-Eu demonstrates rapid and sensitive detection capabilities for MDZ and TET with good recyclability and low detection limits (10-5). In order to increase the practicability of 1-Eu, two portable sensors have been prepared, in which the fluorescent film (Film@1-Eu) has a detection limit of 10-4, and the sensitivity is only less than 10% of the titration results. A portable fluorescent test paper can reach the detection limit of 14.7 ppm. This study provides a new idea for the application of stable multifunctional materials in the field of fluorescence sensing.

Abstract
Lanthanide coordination polymers (Ln-CPs) are potential chemosensors when fabricated to depict a detectable change in optical properties on interaction with target analytes. This work investigates the interaction of nitroaromatic compounds with Ln-CPs leading to induced changes in fluorescence emission intensity, a crucial strategy to develop a selective and sensitive system for the sensing of nitroaromatics. Approaching toward this objective, solvothermal reactions of 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylic (2,5-TDC) acid, 1,10-phenanthroline (1,10-Phen), and Ln(NO3)3·xH2O are carried out to assemble eight Ln(III) coordination polymers [Ln2(2,5-TDC)3(1,10-Phen)2(H2O)2] [Ln = Pr (1), Nd (2)], {[Tb(2,5-TDC)1.5(1,10-Phen)(H2O)]·DMF} (3), and [Ln(2,5-TDC)1.5(1,10-Phen)]·xH2O (Ln = Tb (4), Dy (5), Ho (6), Er (7), and Yb (8)); x = 0 for CP 4, 5, 6, and 8 and x = 1 for CP 7 with two different space groups and dimensions. The as-synthesized polymers 1-8 are characterized by powder X-ray crystallography, infrared spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. The structure-corroborated density functional theory (DFT) studies are done on the selected CPs to investigate the interactions between different structural motifs of the assembled CPs. The luminescence properties of CP 4 are explored in detail and are found to be highly sensitive for the detection of p-nitrotoluene as indicated by the most intensive fluorescence quenching with the lowest limit of detection (0.88 ppm) and high quenching constant (4.3 × 104 M-1). Other nitro compounds (viz., o-nitrobenzaldehyde, m-nitroaniline, picric acid, m-dinitrobenzene, p-nitrophenol, and p-nitroaniline) are also screened for potential sensing by CP 4.

Abstract
In this work, CDs@Eu-UiO-66(COOH)2 (denoted as CDs-F2), a fluorescent material made up of carbon dots (CDs) and a Eu3+ functionalized metal-organic framework, has been designed and prepared via a post-synthetic modification method. The synthesized CDs-F2 presents dual emissions at 410 nm and 615 nm, which can effectively avoid environmental interference. CDs-F2 exhibits outstanding selectivity, great sensitivity, and good anti-interference for ratiometric sensing Cu2+ in water. The linear range is 0-200 µM and the limit of detection is 0.409 µM. Interestingly, the CDs-F2's silicon plate achieves rapid and selective detection of Cu2+. The change in fluorescence color can be observed by the naked eye. These results reveal that the CDs-F2 hybrid can be employed as a simple, rapid, and sensitive fluorescent probe to detect Cu2+. Moreover, the possible sensing mechanism of this dual-emission fluorescent probe is discussed in detail.

Abstract
Thiodiglycolic acid (TDGA) is a biomarker for monitoring vinyl chloride exposure. Exploring a facile, rapid and precise analysis technology to quantify TDGA is of great significance. In this research, we demonstrate a fluorescent sensor based on dual-emissive UiO-66 for TDGA detection. This ratiometric fluorescent material named C460@Tb-UiO-66-(COOH)2 was designed and synthesized by introducing organic dye 7-diethylamino-4-methylcoumarin (C460) and Tb3+ into UiO-66-(COOH)2. The as-obtained C460@Tb-UiO-66-(COOH)2 samples showed highly selective recognition, excellent anti-interference and rapid response characteristics for the recognition of TDGA. The detection limit is 0.518 mg·mL-1, which is much lower than the threshold of 20 mg·mL-1 for a healthy person. In addition, the mechanism of TDGA-induced fluorescence quenching is discussed in detail. This sensor is expected to detect TDGA content in human urine.

Heterometallic Europium(III)–Lutetium(III) Terephthalates as Bright Luminescent Antenna MOFs. Molecules 2022; 27:molecules27185763. Abstract
A new series of luminescent heterometallic europium(III)–lutetium(III) terephthalate metal–organic frameworks, namely (EuxLu1−x)2bdc3·nH2O, was synthesized using a direct reaction in a water solution. At the Eu3+ concentration of 1–40 at %, the MOFs were formed as a binary mixture of the (EuxLu1−x)2bdc3 and (EuxLu1−x)2bdc3·4H2O crystalline phases, where the Ln2bdc3·4H2O crystalline phase was enriched by europium(III) ions. At an Eu3+ concentration of more than 40 at %, only one crystalline phase was formed: (EuxLu1−x)2bdc3·4H2O. All MOFs containing Eu3+ exhibited sensitization of bright Eu3+-centered luminescence upon the 280 nm excitation into a 1ππ* excited state of the terephthalate ion. The fine structure of the emission spectra of Eu3+ 5D0-7FJ (J = 0–4) significantly depended on the Eu3+ concentration. The luminescence quantum yield of Eu3+ was significantly larger for Eu-Lu terephthalates containing a low concentration of Eu3+ due to the absence of Eu-Eu energy migration and the presence of the Ln2bdc3 crystalline phase with a significantly smaller nonradiative decay rate compared to the Ln2bdc3·4H2O.

Abstract
The real-time detecting and monitoring of ethylene gas molecules could benefit the agricultural, horticultural and healthcare industries. In this regard, we comprehensively review the current state-of-the-art ethylene gas sensors and detecting technologies, covering from preconcentrator-equipped gas chromatographic systems, Fourier transform infrared technology, photonic crystal fiber-enhanced Raman spectroscopy, surface acoustic wave and photoacoustic sensors, printable optically colorimetric sensor arrays to a wide range of nanostructured chemiresistive gas sensors (including the potentiometric and amperometric-type FET-, CNT- and metal oxide-based sensors). The nanofabrication approaches, working conditions and sensing performance of these sensors/technologies are carefully discussed, and a possible roadmap for the development of ethylene detection in the near future is proposed.

Abstract
As an important biomarker in urine, the level of uric acid is of importance for human health. In this work, a Cu(II) functionalized metal–organic framework (Cu2+@Tb-MOFs) is designed and developed as a novel fluorescence probe for wide-range uric acid detection in human urine. The study shows that this fluorescence platform demonstrated excellent pH-independent stability, high water tolerance, and good thermal stability. Based on the strong interaction between metal ions and uric acid, the designed Cu2+@Tb-MOFs can be employed as efficient turn-on fluorescent probes for the detection of uric acid with wide detection range (0~104 µM) and high sensitivity (LOD = 0.65 µM). This probe also demonstrates an anti-interference property, as other species coexisted, and the possibility for recycling. The sensing mechanisms are further discussed at length. More importantly, we experimentally constructed a molecular logic gate operation based on this fluorescence probe for intelligent detection of uric acid. These results suggest the Cu(II) functionalized metal–organic framework can act as a prominent candidate for personalized monitoring of the concentration of uric acid in the human urine system.

Abstract
One of the main pollutants in indoor air is volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which can cause great harm to human health. So the development of a VOC detection technology is of great significance. In this work, a tetraphenylethylene-functionalized UiO-66 based on aggregation-induced emission was successfully prepared. The UiO-66-TBPE structure exhibits the characteristic blue emission of TBPE ligands under UV excitation and can be used as a luminescence sensor for fast and efficient detection of VOCs. More importantly, UiO-66-TBPE has a high fluorescence sensing selectivity in p-xylene and styrene vapor. To further improve the practical performance, we combined UiO-66-TBPE with the polymer polyacrylate (PA) to obtain a flexible hybrid membrane with fast detection performance for styrene vapor within the 30 s. The deeper sensing mechanism of p-xylene and styrene inducing different fluorescence enhancement and fluorescence quenching is explained by a combination of modern characterization techniques and computer simulation. Finally, we applied UiO-66-TBPE/PA to leather and still maintained a good sensing performance. It provides a potential way for the application of fluorescent metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) to detect VOCs in daily life.

Abstract
Ratiometric fluorescent probes based on coordination polymers (CPs) have been widely applied in optical applications. Therefore, it is very important to develop a dual-emitting gel material based on coordination polymers for specific recognition of molecules. Cu-atda (H2atda = 3,3'-(4-amino-1,2,4-triazol-3,5-diyl) dibenzoic acid) is synthesized with a porous structure and a large number of amino sites exposed on the surface, which can be regarded as a carrier for fluorescent molecules and well disperse in the SA hydrogel network. A dual-emission Eu3+ functionalized CP hydrogel bead (9A/Cu-atda@Eu3+/SA, 9A = 9-anthraldehyde and SA = sodium alginate) is successfully prepared, which presents ratiometric fluorescence detection of flumequine with a low detection limit (48 nM) and high selectivity. Furthermore, it also displays an excellent fluorescence quenching effect on nitrofuran antibiotics, exhibiting a dual functional performance. In addition, the fluorescence response mechanisms of flumequine and nitrofuran antibiotics are discussed in depth. As a portable material, visualization 9A/Cu-atda@Eu3+/SA beads provide an extensive and convenient application prospect for real-time monitoring of antibiotics in the water environment.

Abstract
Luminescent metal-organic frameworks (LMOFs) as chemosensors, can sense various analytes, such as heavy metal ions, antibiotics, pesticides, and small biological molecules. Based on the fluorescence characteristics of LMOFs, a variety of logic gates have been developed. In this review, we mainly discuss some common logic systems based on LMOFs, and then summarize the strategies of constructing logic gates from two perspectives. One is based on superior characteristics of MOFs, which can be synthesized from Ln3+ based MOFs (Ln-MOFs) or form hybrids by encapsulating different materials, including metal ions, dyes, and quantum dots (QDs). The other is to control the presence of inputs by reactions between different reactants and then further control switches of logic gates. Additionally, the common sensing mechanisms of LMOFs in logic gates are discussed. In the end, we have envisioned MOFs that possess a promising future in logic computing areas.

Abstract
Real-time and visual monitoring of pollutants in the air is of great importance since they are usually cannot be seen, smelled, or touched. Lanthanide nano-cluster is a kind of luminescent sensor for various species. However, controlling synthesis of lanthanide nano-cluster remains experimentally challenging. In this work, four series of lanthanide-barium (Ln-Ba) nano-clusters of Dy2Ba (1), Tb2Ba2 (2), Ln4Ba3 (Ln = Tb, 3a; Eu, 3b), Tb4Ba4 (4) were assembled through precisely controlling the pH of the reactant solutions. The work features the first example that the number of cluster's nuclei changes regularly with the pH. Moreover, investigation reveals that nano-cluster 3a is a highly selective and sensitive sensor towards acetylacetone (acac) and aniline. Interestingly, easy-to-use sensing devices of test paper, agarose gel, and five kinds of film on CaCO3, polyfoam, coin, mask, and wall that based on 3a were fabricated by facile methods. The seven sensing devices showed remarkable ability to sense aniline and acac vapors with visibility to the naked eyes. This is the first work on multiple real-time and visual sensing devices based on the lanthanide nano-cluster.

Abstract
The sensing behavior of a thin film composed of metal-free 5, 10, 15, 20-tetrakis (p-hydroxy phenyl) porphyrin and zinc phthalocyanine complex towards m-xylene, styrene, and HCl vapors in a homemade planar optical waveguide (POWG), was studied at room temperature. The thin film was deposited on the surface of potassium ion-exchanged glass substrate, using vacuum spin-coating method, and a semiconductor laser light (532 nm) as the guiding light. Opto-chemical changes of the film exposing with hydrochloric gas, m-xylene, and styrene vapor, were analyzed firstly with UV-Vis spectroscopy. The fabricated POWG shows good correlation between gas exposure response and absorbance change within the gas concentration range 10-1500 ppm. The limit of detection calculated from the logarithmic calibration curve was proved to be 11.47, 21.08, and 14.07 ppm, for HCl gas, m-xylene, and styrene vapors, respectively. It is interesting to find that the film can be recovered to the initial state with trimethylamine vapors after m-xylene, styrene exposures as well as HCl exposure. The gas-film interaction mechanism was discussed considering protonation and π-π stacking with planar aromatic analyte molecules.

Abstract
Dyes detection remains a serious task because of their high toxicity. In present work, designed Eu3+ functionalized Zr-metal-organic framework (Eu3+@Zr-MOF-808) as fluorescent probe was constructed via post-synthetic modification (PSM) for rapid monitoring four most commonly used dyes (malachite green (MG), brilliant green (BG), alizarin red S (ARS), indigo red (IDR)). Systematic exploring on the sensing mechanism reveals that fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) for BG, MG and IDR and inner filter effect (IFE) for ARS contribute to the realization of the fluorescence quenching process. It exhibits excellent sensing performances with low limit of detection (LOD) of 32, 58, 77 and 133 nM for BG, IDR, MG and ARS, respectively. The as-constructed Eu3+@Zr-MOF-808 was demonstrated to be a highly sensitive probe for screening of MG in fish pond and IDR in printing wastewater with satisfying results. Moreover, a portable test reagent bottle has been developed for visual on-site screening of sample containing dyes with naked eyes under UV light. This is the first attempt to construct the Eu3+@Zr-MOF-808 probe for sensingmultiple dyes in real samples and demonstrates promising applications in water quality monitoring.

Abstract
An ingenious nanoscale fluorescent sensor derived from Eu3+-postfunctionalized MIL-53 (Al) (Eu3+@MIL-53 [Al]) was fabricated though a simple and effective approach. Malachite green (MG) effectively turned off the luminescence of Eu3+@MIL-53 (Al) via fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET), thus enabling MG sensing. The developed probe exhibited instantaneous reusability after being cleaned with deionized water. The fluorescence intensity, quenching efficiency, and crystal structure of the recoverable sensor after five recycling processes were unchanged compared with those of the original sample. Moreover, the potential mechanism of MG detection was revealed in detail. This work represents the first attempt to determine MG in aquaculture water and products by using metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). The Eu3+@MIL-53 (Al) probe proved to be a remarkable fluorescence probe for MG with high selectivity, sensitivity, and excellent regeneration capability. It provides a promising functional platform for the recognition of illegal MG addition to aquaculture water and products.

Abstract
Abnormal bilirubin (BR) level is a sign of several fatal diseases, so it is of great significance and challenge to develop a facile and effective family routine strategy for BR sensing. Herein, novel water-stable Tb3+@MOF-808 has been synthesized using a coordinated postsynthetic modification strategy and designed as a convenient and efficient fluorescence probe. The fabricated fluorescent probe exhibits a remarkable fluorescence quenching effect with the successive addition of BR, which displays fascinating features, such as fast response time, high sensitivity, and excellent selectivity. The quenching mechanism between the fluorescent probe and BR was also illustrated in detail. Importantly, the devised fluorescent probe successfully achieved the determination of BR in serum and urine, which has also been successfully used in the design of portable BR test paper. The developed monitoring platform for BR levels in vivo provides promising application potential for the prevention and early diagnosis of fatal diseases. Additionally, a molecular logic gate device that performs intelligent fluorescent sensing of BR was constructed. More interestingly, Tb3+@MOF-808 is used for development of latent fingerprints on different guest surfaces. The lines of the fluorescent fingerprints are clear and coherent, the details are obvious, and even sweat pores can be observed by naked eyes, which provides new means for tracking the criminal clue and handling cases efficiently.
