Abstract
Fly ash, produced during coal combustion for energy making, which is recognized as an industrial by-product, could lead to environmental health hazards. Subsequently, fly ash found that an exceptional adsorption performance for the removal of various toxic pollutants, the adsorption capacity of fly ash might be altered by introducing physical/chemical stimulation. Successfully converting fly ash into zeolites not only recovers their disposal difficulties but also transforms unwanted materials into merchandisable products for various industrial applications. Here we fabricated that, converting fly ash into zeolite and then modifying it with aminopropyl imidazole (ionic liquid), the imidazolium-based zeolite will be used as a template for loading Fe3O4 NPs. The formation of Fe3O4 NPs decorated zeolites is incorporated with polymeric materials [including polystyrene sulphonate (PSS), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and chitosan], producing to magnetic film (named Fe3O4 NPs@zeolite film). The fabricated magnetic film exhibits excellent functionality and durability for the sorption of chromium, selenium and organic dyes such as Congo red, RhB. These toxic contaminates were electrostatically bonded through adsorbent due to their protonation of below the pHzpc 7.0 with surface functional groups from imidazolium cationic moiety (R-N+), amino groups derived chitosan (-N, -NH and -NH2), and hydroxyl groups (Fe-OH), electrostatically bind with anionic selenium species are [(SeO32-, Se(IV)), and (SeO42- Se(VI)], chromium species HCrO4-, Cr2O72- and CrO42- the maximum removal performance were achieved in a wide pH range are highly suitable for practical application.

Constructing mesoporous biochar derived from waste carton: Improving multi-site adsorption of dye wastewater and investigating mechanism. ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH 2024; 242:117775. Abstract
The development of cost-efficient biochar adsorbent with a simple preparation method is essential to constructing efficient wastewater treatment system. Here, a low-cost waste carton biochar (WCB) prepared by a simple two-step carbonization was applied in efficiently removing Rhodamine B (RhB) in aqueous environment. The maximum ability of WCB for RhB adsorption was 222 mg/g, 6 and 10 times higher than both of rice straw biochar (RSB) and broadbean shell biochar (BSB), respectively. It was mainly ascribed to the mesopore structure (3.0-20.4 nm) of WCB possessing more spatial sites compared to RSB (2.2 nm) and BSB (2.4 nm) for RhB (1.4 nm✕1.1 nm✕0.6 nm) adsorption. Furthermore, external mass transfer (EMT) controlled mass transfer resistance (MTR) of the RhB sorption process by WCB which was fitted with the Langmuir model well. Meanwhile, the adsorption process was dominated by physisorption through van der Waals forces and π-π interactions. A mixture of three dyes in river water was well removed by using WCB. This work provides a straightforward method of preparing mesoporous biochar derived from waste carton with high-adsorption capacity for dye wastewater treatment.

Abstract
Pillararene polymers have been widely used as excellent adsorbents for water treatment, but pillararene polymers with ultra-high specific surface area and versatility are still rarely reported. Herein, a quaternary ammonium salt modified pillar [5] arene polymer, QPBP [5], with specific surface area of 1844 m2 g-1 was successfully synthesized. Since QPBP [5] has abundant different adsorption sites, it exhibits excellent performance for the simultaneously removal of organic pollutants with different charges from water. The selected three model pollutants, Rhodamine B (RhB, positively charged), Sulfamethazine (SMT, electrically neutral) and Fulvic acid (FA, negatively charged), could be rapidly and efficiently removed from water by QPBP [5] within 10 min, which are much faster than them by most of the reported adsorbents. RhB and SMT are mainly adsorbed through hydrophobic interactions with the QPBP [5] surface, while FA is mainly removed through ion exchange. In addition, QPBP [5] also showed excellent reusability and adsorption performance for the environmentally relevant concentration of pollutants. Furthermore, the quaternary ammonium groups on QPBP [5] makes it a solid disinfectant with excellent antibacterial properties. In conclusion, QPBP [5] is a promising multifunctional adsorbent for the treatment of complex pollutants in water.

Abstract
Industrial solid waste has a wide range of impacts, and it is directly or indirectly related to land, atmosphere, water, and other resources. Industrial solid waste has a large amount of production, complex and diverse components and contains a variety of harmful substances. However, as industrial by-products, it also has a lot of available value. Industrial solid waste has been continuously studied in water treatment due to its special composition and porous and loose structure. It is known that there are few reviews of various industrial solid wastes in the field of wastewater treatment, and most of them only discuss single industrial solid waste. This paper aims to sort out the different studies on various solid wastes such as fly ash, red mud, wastewater sludge, blast furnace slag and steel slag in dyeing, heavy metal, and phosphorus-containing wastewater. Based on the modification of industrial solid waste and the preparation of composite materials, adsorbents, coagulants, catalysts, filtration membranes, geological polymers, and other materials with high adsorption properties for pollutants in wastewater were formed; the prospect and development of these materials in the field of wastewater were discussed, which provides some ideas for the mutual balance of environment and society. Meanwhile, some limitations of solid waste applications for wastewater treatment have been put forward, such as a lack of further researches about environment-friendly modification methods, application costs, the heavy metal leaching, and toxicity assessment of industrial solid waste.

Abstract
Herein, NaP and LTA zeolites were successfully synthesised from woody biomass ash with alkali fusion-assisted hydrothermal method by altering the NaOH/ash ratio, crystallisation time and crystallisation temperature. In order to reduce the synthesis costs, NaP zeolite was synthesised with no additional source of aluminium and silicon. The synthesised zeolites were utilized for the monocomponent and simultaneous adsorption of Cu(II), Cd(II), Pb(II) and Zn(II) ions. The maximum adsorbed amount of metals had the trend Pb(II) > Cu(II) > Cd(II) > Zn(II) for both NaP and LTA zeolite. The kinetic data fit well to the pseudo-second order model indicating that chemisorption is the rate-limiting step. The isotherm data were well described with Sips and Redlich-Peterson models indicating a non-ideal heterogeneous adsorption process. Maximum adsorption capacity of NaP zeolite was 42.9 mg/g for Cu(II) and 117.3 mg/g for Cd(II), while LTA had 140.1 mg/g and 223.5 mg/g for Cu(II) and Cd(II) ions, respectively.

Abstract
In this study, a Cu NPs-incorporated carbon-containing mesoporous SiO2 (Cu/C-SiO2) was successfully synthesized through a grinding-assisted self-infiltration method followed by an in situ reduction process. The obtained Cu/C-SiO2 was then employed as a Fenton-like catalyst to remove tetracycline (TC) from aqueous solutions. TEM, EDS, XRD, N2 adsorption-desorption, FTIR, and XPS methods were used to characterize the crystal structure, morphology, porosity, chemical composition, and surface chemical properties of the catalyst. The effects of initial TC concentration, catalyst dosage, H2O2 dosage, solution pH, HA addition, and water media on the TC degradation over Cu/C-SiO2 were investigated. Scavenging and electrochemical experiments were then carried out to analyze the TC degradation mechanism. The results show that the Cu/C-SiO2 can remove 99.9% of the concentrated TC solution (C0 = 500 mg·L-1), and it can be used in a wide pH range (R.E. = 94-99%, pH = 3.0-11.0). Moreover, hydroxyl radicals (•OH) were detected to be the dominant reactive species in this catalytic system. This study provides a simple and promising method for the synthesis of heteroatom-containing mesoporous catalysts for the decomposition of antibiotics in wastewater.

Abstract
A batch experiment was used in studying the effect of acrylic-acid-modified walnut shell (MWNS) as a low-cost adsorbent for removing Rhodamine B (RB) cationic dye in aqueous solutions. The adsorbent dosage, initial dye concentration, contact time, temperature, pH, and supporting electrolyte concentration on the adsorption behaviour of the adsorbent were explored. The adsorbent was characterized using the point of zero charge (pHPZC), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), automatic specific surface analysis (BET), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Results showed that MWNS had abundant active groups and rough surface, which is conducive to the adsorption process. The kinetics and equilibrium data of MWNS-to-RB adsorption were in accordance pseudo-second-order kinetic and Freundlich isotherm models, respectively. Under optimal adsorption conditions, the maximum adsorption capacity of RB was 48.87 mg·g-1. Thermodynamic results showed spontaneously and exothermically the adsorption process. Moreover, the addition of electrolyte had a negative effect on equilibrium adsorption capacity and adsorption rate.HIGHLIGHTS Acrylic-acid-modified walnut shells was used as an adsorbent for the removal of Rhodamine B (RB).The adsorption of RB by modified walnut shells was greatly affected by pH.Pseudo-second-order kinetic and Freundlich model fit the experimental data. The modified walnut shell can remove RB through electrostatic attraction, hydrogen bonding, and electron donor-acceptor interaction.

Abstract
Industrial effluents and wastewater treatment have been a mainstay of environmental preservation and remediation for the last decade. Silica nanoparticles (SiO2) obtained from rice husk (RH) are an alternative to producing low-cost adsorbent and agriculture waste recovery. One adsorption challenge is facilitating the adsorbate separation and reuse cycle from aqueous medium. Thus, the present work employs SiO2 supported on polylactic acid (PLA) nanofibers obtained by the electrospinning method for Rhodamine B (RhB) dye adsorption. The silica surface was modified with trimethylsilyl chloride (TMCS) to increase affinity towards organic compounds. As a result, the silanized surface of the silica from rice husk (RHSil) promoted an increase in dye adsorption attributed to the hydrophobic properties. The PLA fibers containing 40% SiO2 (w w-1) showed about 85-95% capacity adsorption. The pseudo-first-order kinetic model was demonstrated to be the best model for PLA:SiO2 RHSil nanocomposites, exhibiting a 1.2956 mg g-1 adsorption capacity and 0.01404 min-1 kinetic constant (k1) value. In the reuse assay, PLA:SiO2 membranes preserved their adsorption activity after three consecutive adsorption cycles, with a value superior to 60%. Therefore, PLA:SiO2 nanocomposites from agricultural waste are an alternative to "low-cost/low-end" treatments and can be used in traditional treatment systems to improve dye removal from contaminated waters.

The study focused on the transformation of coal fly ash to zeolite A (ZA) as a potential carrier for the slow release of urea. After being treated with HCl aqueous solution and NaOH successively, SiO2 and Al2O3 were converted into sodium silicoaluminate. The obtained silicoaluminate was then heated with NaAlO2 in an aqueous NaOH solution at 70-110 °C for 3-18 h and zeolite A was successfully prepared according to the X-ray diffraction measurements. By changing the hydrothermal temperature and time, ZA could reach 237.3 mmol/100 g in maximum cation exchange capacity. ZA impregnated with urea (ZA-U) at a mass ratio of more than 5:1 exhibited slow release of urea and the kinetics release mechanism of ZA-U was proposed. The plant growth test proved that the slow release of urea from ZA-U can promote the growth of maize seedling.

Abstract
Low-cost and concentrated industrial wastes have been recognized as a sustainable resource for preparation of new functional materials. Here, a new method was designed for the synthesis of porous composites containing high-purity Na-P1 zeolite and porous carbon from waste coal gasification fine slag (CGFS), which was treated first by acid leaching to controllably remove metal impurities and adjust Si/Al ratio, followed by NaOH fusion and hydrothermal treatment. By leaching with 1.0 mol/L HCl solution, the Si/Al ratio of the raw CGFS increased to 5.7, and the obtained CZ-1.0 consisted of high-purity Na-P1 zeolite with a typical cone-shaped flower cluster shape. The residue carbon in CGFS can be further activated to form porous carbon and graphite carbon layers interposed in the zeolite structure. The specific surface area and pore volume of CZ-1.0 reached 153.91 m2/g and 0.18 cm3/g, respectively. CZ-1.0 exhibited remarkable adsorption performance for methylene blue (MB) with the adsorption capacity reaching 137.5 mg/g for 100 mg/L MB solution. The adsorption process is mainly controlled by the chemisorption mechanism, and the adsorption of MB by CZ-1.0 may include ion exchange, hydrogen bond interaction, π-π bond interaction and van der Waals force. NaCl solution was successfully used as the desorption agent to regenerate the composite material, and the removal rate remained above 92% after five cycles. This work provides an effective strategy to synthesize a practically applicable adsorbent from the waste coal gasification fine slag for the purification of MB wastewater.

Abstract
The Si and Al in municipal solid waste incineration fly ash (MSWI FA) can be utilized for zeolite fabrication, which can improve the application value of the products. This study focuses on the fabrication of zeolite from MSWI FA by microwave-assisted hydrothermal (MH) treatment. The effects of magnetic stirring time, Na2SiO3 dosage, MH time, and NaOH solution concentration on the crystallization of zeolite NaP1 from MSWI FA are systematically analyzed. The synthetic products are analyzed through spectroscopic and mineralogical methods. The results show that zeolite NaP1 with high crystallinity (51.68 %) can be fabricated by magnetic stirring and MH treatment, and the cation exchange capacity (CEC) of the product can reach a value of 2.58 meq/g, which is approximately 133 times that of the CEC of MSWI FA. The Si/Al ratio plays a decisive role in the zeolite NaP1 synthesis, and a Na2SiO3 dosage of 30 wt% is adopted for zeolite NaP1 fabrication. A NaOH concentration of 1 M is sufficient for zeolite NaP1 synthesis. Additionally, the zeolite NaP1 content is found to obviously increase with increasing MH time from 0.5 h to 2 h. To demonstrate the feasibility of the method provided in this study, the optimal experimental condition is employed for various MSWI FAs, and zeolite NaP1 and analcime are fabricated successfully. The leachability of heavy metals for the synthetic products was evaluated, which met the requirements for pollution control. The BET surface area and total pore volume of zeolite NaP1 fabricated at optimal condition are 61.42 m2/g and 0.44 cm3/g, respectively. The adsorption capacity of zeolite NaP1 for Cu2+ ion and methylene blue are determined to be 84.65 mg/g and 84.55 mg/g, respectively, indicating zeolite NaP1 is a potential adsorbent for cation ion and dyes. This study provides an environmentally friendly scheme for the utilization of MSWI FA.

Abstract
Here, a low-cost acid-base and temperature tolerant algal bloom derived activated carbon (ABAC) was successfully prepared to remove rhodamine B (RhB) from water. The ABAC exhibited maximum adsorption capacity of RhB (1101 ± 11 mg/g), higher than that of laboratory-prepared rape straw activated carbon (176 ± 5 mg/g) and commercial activated carbon (489 ± 5 mg/g). It is attributed to larger surface area and mesoporous structure of the ABAC. Furthermore, the effective adsorption of RhB by using ABAC was achieved at a wide range of solution pH (3.2-10.8) and temperature(25-50 °C). The mass transfer resistance of RhB adsorption process well depicted by Langmuir model was controlled by external mass transfer. The adsorption process involved both secondly chemisorption (H-bonds and π-π interaction) and dominated physisorption. Four dyes in river water were efficiently removed. This work provides a promising approach for developing high-absorption biomass materials for actual dye wastewater treatment.
