Abstract
The primary challenge in mercury (Hg) adsorbents for large-scale practical applications is to achieve the balance between performance and economy. This work attempts to address this issue by synthesizing an exfoliated thiocellulose (CU-SH) with high thiol density and hierarchical porosity using in-situ ligands grafting combined with chemical stripping. The prepared CU-SH shows remarkable physical stability and chemical resistance, and the micron sized fiber is conducive to separation from water. Hg(II) adsorption tests in water demonstrate that CU-SH has broad working pH range (1-12), fast kinetics (0.64 g/(mg‧min)), high adsorption capacity (652.9 mg/g), outstanding selectivity (Kd = 6.2 × 106 mg/L), and excellent reusability (R > 95 % after 20 cycles). Importantly, CU-SH exhibits good resistance to various coexisting ions and organic matter, and can efficiently remove Hg(II) from different real water. CU-SH can be made into a Point of Use (POU) device for continuous and efficient removal of Hg(II) from drinking water. 0.1 g CU-SH filled device can purify 3.2 L of Hg(II) (0.5 ppm) contaminated tap water before the breakthrough point of 2 ppb. Moreover, CU-SH also reveals good adsorption affinity for Hg-dissolved organic matter complexes (Hg(II)-DOM) in water, chloro(phenyl)mercury (PMC) in organic media and Hg0 vapor in air, suggesting the great practical potential of CU-SH.

Photochemical-promoted ZVI reduction for highly efficient removal of 4-chlorophenol and Cr(VI): Catalytic activity, performance and electron transfer mechanisms. THE SCIENCE OF THE TOTAL ENVIRONMENT 2024; 917:170540. Abstract
Zero-valent iron (ZVI) reduction represents a promising methodology for water remediation, but its broad application is limited by two critical challenges (i.e., aggregation and passivation). Here, we report a hybrid strategy of photochemical-promoted ZVI reduction with high efficiency and reduction capacity for removing coexisting refractory pollutants in water. A composite material with Pd/Fe bimetallic nanoparticles supported onto semiconducting metal oxide (Pd/Fe@WO3-GO) was prepared and subsequently used as the model catalyst. By using the developed strategy with visible light as light source, this catalyst showed a remarkable catalytic performance for simultaneously eliminating 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) and Cr(VI), with dehalogenation rate as high as 0.43 min-1, outperforming the reported ZVI-based catalysts. A synergistic interaction of photocatalysis and ZVI reduction occurred in this strategy, where the interfacial electron transfer on particles surface were greatly strengthened with light irradiation. The activation was attributed to the dual functions of semiconducting material as support to disperse Pd/Fe nanoparticles and as (photoexcited) electron donor to directly trigger reduction reactions and/or indirectly inhibit the formation of oxides passivation layer. Both direct electron transfer and H*-mediated indirect electron transfer mechanisms were confirmed to participate in the reduction of pollutants, while the later was quantitatively demonstrated as the predominant reaction route. Importantly, this strategy showed a wide pH applicability, long-term durability and excellent catalytic performance in different real-water systems. This work provides new insights into ZVI reduction and advances its applications for the removal of combined organic and inorganic pollutants. The developed photochemical-promoted ZVI reduction strategy holds a great potential for practical applications.

Abstract
Biodegradable polymers, biochars and metal organic frameworks (MOFs) have manifested as top prospects for elimination of harmful pollutants. In the current study, Ti-MOF was synthesized and decorated with TiO2 nanoparticles, then embedded into watermelon peel biochar and functionalized with chitosan hydrogel to produce Ti-MOF@TiO2@WMPB@CTH. Various instruments were employed to assure the effective production of the bionanocomposite. The HR-TEM and SEM studies referred to excellent surface porosity and homogeneity of Ti-MOF@TiO2@WMPB@CTH bionanocomposite, with 51.02-74.23 nm. Based on the BET analysis, the mesoporous structure has a significant surface area of 366.04 m2 g-1 and a considerable total pore volume of 11.38 × 10-2 cm3 g-1, with a mean pore size of 12.434 nm. Removal of doxorubicin (DOX) and hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) was examined under various experimentations. Pseudo-second order kinetic models in addition to Langmuir isotherm offered the best fitting. Thermodynamic experiments of the two contaminants demonstrated spontaneous and endothermic interactions. After five subsequent adsorption and desorption cycles, Ti-MOF@TiO2@WMPB@CTH bionanocomposite demonstrated an exceptional recyclability for the elimination of DOX and Cr(VI) ions, reaching 97.96 % and 95.28 %, respectively. Finally, the newly designed Ti-MOF@TiO2@WMPB@CTH bionanocomposite demonstrated a high removing efficiency of Cr(VI) ions and DOX from samples of real water.

Abstract
Water pollution caused by Hg(II) exerts hazardous effect to environmental safety and human health. Herein, a family of salicylaldehyde tailored poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers/chitosan composites (G0-S/CTS, G1-S/CTS, and G2-S/CTS) were prepared and used for the removal of Hg(II) from water solution. The adsorption performance of the as-prepared composites for Hg(II) was thoroughly demonstrated by determining various influencing factors. G0-S/CTS, G1-S/CTS and G2-S/CTS exhibited competitive adsorption capacity and good adsorption selective property for Hg(II). The maximum adsorption capacity of G0-S/CTS, G1-S/CTS and G2-S/CTS for Hg(II) were 1.86, 2.18 and 4.47 mmol‧g-1, respectively. The adsorption for Hg(II) could be enhanced by raising initial Hg(II) concentration and temperature. The adsorption process was dominated by film diffusion processes with monolayer adsorption behavior. The functional groups of NH2, CONH, CN, OH, CO and CN were mainly responsible for the adsorption of Hg(II). G0-S/CTS, G1-S/CTS and G2-S/CTS displayed good regeneration property and the regenerate rate maintained 95.00 % after five adsorption-desorption cycles. The as-prepared adsorbents could be potentially used for the efficient removal of Hg(II) from aqueous solution.

One-step synthesis of thiol-functionalized metal coordination polymers: effective and superfast removal of Hg (II) in the different matrices to ppb level. CHEMOSPHERE 2023; 338:139618. Abstract
The mercury in water bodies has posed a great threat to the environment and humans, and removing mercury and purifying wastewater has become a global environmental issue. Adopting Zn(II) coordination polymers (Zn-CPs) emerged as a new approach, however, the kind of Zn-CPs, which solely consisted of amino groups, exhibited unsatisfactory performance in capturing Hg(II) at a low level and causing the subsequent leaching of Zn(II) after adsorption. In this study, we fabricated the thiol-modified Zn-based coordination polymers (Zn-CPs-SH) through a one-step solvothermal reaction to efficiently capture Hg(II) from wastewater. Its preeminent adsorption performance could be maintained across a broad range of pH (2-7), ion strength (Cl-, SO42-, and NO3- at 0-10,000 mg/L), and dissolved organic matter (0-100 mg/L). The impressive properties, including fast kinetics (k2∼1.01 × 10-4 L/min), outstanding adsorption capacity (1278.72 mg/g, 298 K), superior selectivity (Kd∼2.3 × 104 mL/g), and excellent regeneration capability (Re = 93.54% after 5 cycles), were attributed to the ultra-abundance of adsorption sites donating from thiol groups, which was revealed by XPS analysis, DFT calculations, and molecular orbital theory. Noteworthy, the high practical application potential of Zn-CPs-SH was demonstrated by its outstanding Hg(II) removal efficiency (Re ≥ 99.10%) in various Hg(II)-spiked water matrices, e.g., tap water, river water, and industrial wastewater. Importantly, the residual Hg(II) in the treated water declined to the ppb level without any Zn(II) leaching. Overall, it is highly anticipated that the incorporation of Zn-CPs-SH would facilitate the practical implementation of highly efficient Hg(II) removal in wastewater treatment owing to its exhibiting high selective affinity, superior adsorption capacity, and enhanced efficiency.

Abstract
A Fe-N conjugated organic polymer (SMP-Fr-Py) was prepared from ferrocene and pyrrole using a Scholl coupling reaction, which significantly improved the performance of Cr(VI) removal compared to the polymer (HCP-Fr-Py) prepared by adding the cross-linker formaldehyde dimethyl acetal (FDA). The results showed that at a pH of 2 and at 25 °C, the removal of Cr(VI) reached 90% for SMP-Fr-Py and only 58% for HCP-Fr-Py after 20 min of reaction. Subsequently, 99% and 78% were achieved after 120 min of reaction, respectively. The test results showed that the removal reaction followed a pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The removal efficiency decreased with increasing solution pH and initial Cr(VI) concentration, but increased with increasing SMP-Fr-Py dosage, reaching three cycles. The characterization of the reaction complexes and measurements of Cr species conversion revealed the near absence of Cr(VI) species in the solution. Approximately 38% of Cr(VI) was found to be adsorbed on the material surface, with another fraction present in solution (24%) and on the material surface (38%) in the form of Cr(III). The overall study showed that the direct connection of ferrocene and pyrrole in SMP-Fr-Py through C-C bonding increased the conjugated structure of the polymer backbone, which facilitated electron transfer and transport. Furthermore, the Fe-N elements worked synergistically with each other more easily, which improved the removal performance of Cr(VI) and provided a reference for the subsequent work.

Abstract
Core-shell magnetic covalent organic framework (COF) materials were prepared, followed by shell material functionalization with different organic ligands, including thiosemicarbazide, through a postsynthetic modification approach. The structures of the prepared samples were characterized with various techniques, including powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), photoinduced force microscopy (PiFM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and solid 13C NMR. PXRD and BET studies revealed that the crystalline and porous nature of the functionalized COFs was well maintained after three steps of postsynthetic modification. On the other hand, solid 13C NMR, TGA, and PiFM analyses confirmed the successful functionalization of COF materials with good covalent linkage connectivity. The use of the resulting functionalized magnetic COF for selective and ultrafast adsorption of Hg(II) has been investigated. The observations displayed rapid kinetics with adsorption dynamics conforming to the quasi-second-order kinetic model and the Langmuir adsorption model. Furthermore, this prepared crystalline magnetic material demonstrated a high Langmuir Hg(II) uptake capacity, reaching equilibrium in only 5 min. Thermodynamic calculations proved that the adsorption process is endothermic and spontaneous.

Abstract
The toxicity and carcinogenicity of Cr(VI) makes it a major threat to the health of animals and people. However, how to efficiently remove Cr(VI) still faces important challenges. In this study, a new metal-free polypyrrole-red phosphorus (PPy-RP) composite is successfully synthesized by in-situ oxidation polymerization for Cr(VI) removal from wastewater. The maximum adsorption capacity (qm) of Cr(VI) on PPy-RP-1 is 513.2 mg/g when the pH value is 2, which is far superior to RP nanosheets (207.8 mg/g) and PPy (294.9 mg/g). The improved qm can be ascribe to the good dispersion and increased specific surface area of PPy-RP adsorbent. Encouragingly, PPy-RP adsorbent still exhibits excellent stability after 7 cycles tests without a significant decline in removal efficiency, and remain above 81.4%. Based on the fittings of adsorption isotherms and kinetics, the process conforms to the pseudo-first-order kinetic model and the single-layer adsorption of the Langmuir model with an R2 value of 0.98533. The adsorption process is chemical and monolayer. The experimental result demonstrates that the PPy-RP can efficient removal Cr(VI) by electrostatic attraction and complexation reaction (formation of N-Cr(VI) bond) through the PPy on the surface. The results of this study indicate that PPy-RP is a promising adsorbent to remove the Cr(IV).

Abstract
Multiple potentially toxic elements (PTEs) often coexist in practical wastewater environment, which poses serious risks to the ecological environment and human health. However, few of the reported adsorbents are capable of simultaneously and effectively removing multiple PTEs from wastewater due to the unique properties of each element. In this work, a multifunctional adsorbent FMHs was developed by optimizing Fe2+/Fe3+/Mn2+/HA ratio, and applied to remove Cd(II), Pb(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), As(III), Sb(III), As(V) and Sb(V) from aqueous solution. Results revealed that the adsorption data obeyed the Elovich, Sips and Redlich-Peterson models in the mono-component system, and the maximum adsorption capacity of FMHs was superior to most adsorbents reported in the literatures. In addition, FMHs retained considerable removal capacity after four cycles, and maintained excellent adsorption performance under the interference of different environmental factors (including pH, ionic strength, co-existing ions and humic acid). In the multi-component system, FMHs also presented high adsorption capacity for all the selected PTEs, especially for Sb(III/V) and Pb(II). Characterization results confirmed that various removal mechanisms, such as precipitation, surface complexation, ion exchange, electrostatic attraction and redox, were responsible for the capture of PTEs by FMHs.

Abstract
Emerging chromium (Cr) species have attracted increasing concern. A majority of Cr species, especially hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)), could lead to lethal effects on human beings, animals, and aquatic lives even at low concentrations. One of the conventional water-treatment methodologies, adsorption, could remove these toxic Cr species efficiently. Additionally, adsorption possesses many advantages, such as being cost-saving, easy to implement, highly efficient and facile to design. Previous research has shown that the application of different adsorbents, such as carbon nanotubes (carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and graphene oxide (GO) and its derivatives), activated carbons (ACs), biochars (BCs), metal-based composites, polymers and others, is being used for Cr species removal from contaminated water and wastewater. The research progress and application of adsorption for Cr removal in recent years are reviewed, the mechanisms of adsorption are also discussed and the development trend of Cr treatment by adsorption is proposed.

[PMID: 34602048 DOI: 10.2174/1872210515666210930193811] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 05/21/2021] [Revised: 08/13/2021] [Accepted: 08/22/2021] [Indexed: 06/13/2023]
Abstract
BACKGROUND The In2O3 nanowires have attracted enormous attention for gas sensor application due to their advantageous features. However, the controlled synthesis of In2O3 nanowires for gas sensors is vital and challenging because the gas sensing performance of the nanowires is strongly dependent on their characteristics. METHODS Here in this patent, we fabricated In2O3 nanowires on SiO2/Si substrate via a simple thermal vapor deposition method with the Au thin film as the catalyst. The growth temperatures were controlled to obtain desired nanowires of small size. The grown In2O3 nanowires were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The ethanol gas sensing properties were tested under the dynamic flow of dry air and analytic gas. The synthesized In2O3 nanowires have the potential for use in ethanol gas sensor application. RESULTS In2O3 nanostructures grown at different temperatures ranging from 600 to 900oC have different morphologies. The sample grown at 600oC had a morphology of nanowire, with a diameter of approximately 80 nm and a length of few micrometers. Nanowires grown at 600°C were composed of oxygen (O) and indium (In) elements, with the atomic ratio of [O]/[In] = 3/5. The nanowire was a single phase cubic structure of In2O3 crystal. The In2O3 nanowire sensor showed typical n-type semiconducting sensing properties. The response decreased from 130 to 75 at 100 ppm when the working temperature decreased from 450°C to 350°C. CONCLUSION The nanowires grown at 600°C by the thermal vapor deposition method had the best morphology with a small diameter of about 80 nm and a length of few micrometers. The In2O3 nanowires had a good ability to sense ethanol at varying concentrations in the range of 20 ppm to 100 ppm. The In2O3 nanowires can be used as building blocks for future nanoscale gas sensors.

Abstract
Hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) contaminated wastewater should be addressed efficiently in the environmental field. In previous applications, nano iron sulfides amendment has not been well controlled for iron-sulfur transformation. In this study, the novel flake and nanoscale porous pyrrhotite (Fe7S8) (FNPP) amendment was synthesized. The iron-sulphur transformation of FNPP was controlled and optimized for enhancing Cr(VI) removal. The specific surface area and average pore diameter of the FNPP amendment reached 115.7 m2/g and 2.1 nm. The maximum adsorption capacity of total chromium reached 66.3 mg/g. The optimized iron-sulphur transformation condition was an initial FNPP and Cr(VI) molar ratio of 8, pH at 5.6, in which the Cr(VI) removal reached 96.5% and all producing S2- was utterly consumed. It is confirmed that S2- fast induced Fe3+/Fe2+ circulation and FNPP has a speedier adsorption rate for Cr(III) than Cr(VI). Fe2+ and S2- mediated the Cr(VI) reduction to Cr(III), thus, much faster Cr(VI) removal was achieved. High efficiency removal mechanism of Cr(VI) was combined with surface adsorption/reduction and solution reduction/precipitation. The research demonstrated that controlling and optimizing the iron-sulphur transformation of Fe7S8 amendment can significantly enhance Cr(VI) removal.

Abstract
In the application of various magnetic materials for water treatment, control of surface resistance to acid and alkali corrosion remains largely overlooked, which could greatly extend their service life. We herein prepare amino grafted magnetic graphene oxide composites using a simple one-step cross-link reaction between the graphene oxide and magnetic Fe3O4/C nanoparticles. The as-prepared magnetic graphene oxide composites have long-term stability under acid and alkali solutions and shows an excellent performance in removing Ho(III), a representative rare earth element (REE) from water. The observed adsorption capacity of 72.1 mg Ho(III)/g exceeded that of most magnetic materials previously reported. Regeneration of the magnetic composites was realized in acid and alkali solutions but their structural integrity and physicochemical properties retained even after 18 adsorption-desorption cycles. The current adsorbent also shows excellent adsorption performance for other heavy REEs, such as Er(III), Eu(III), Lu(III), Tm(III), Y(III) and Yb(III). This work can provide a new strategy for constructing an acid and base resistance magnetic graphene oxide for the high-efficient recovery of heavy REEs from aqueous solution.

Abstract
In the field of nanotechnology, nanoadsorbents have emerged as a powerful tool for the purification of contaminated aqueous environments. Among the variety of nanoadsorbents developed so far, magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles have drawn particular interest because of their quick separation, low cost, flexibility, reproducibility, and environmentally benign nature. Herein, we describe a new strategy for the synthesis of Fe3O4 nanoclusters, which is based on the use of naturally available edible mushrooms (Pleurotus eryngii) and environmentally benign propylene glycol as a solvent medium. By tuning the temperature, we successfully convert Fe3O4 nanoparticles into Fe3O4 nanoclusters via hydrothermal treatment, as evidenced by transmission electron microscopy. The Fe3O4 nanoclusters are functionalized with an organic molecule linker (dihydrolipoic acid, DHLA) to remove hazardous Hg(II) ions selectively. Batch adsorption experiments demonstrate that Hg(II) ions are strongly adsorbed on the material surface, and X-ray photoelectron and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy techniques reveal the Hg(II) removal mechanism. The DHLA@Fe3O4 nanoclusters show a high removal efficiency of 99.2 % with a maximum Hg(II) removal capacity of 140.84 mg g-1. A kinetic study shows that the adsorption equilibrium is rapidly reached within 60 min and follows a pseudo second-order kinetic model. The adsorption and separation system can be readily recycled using an external magnet when the separation occurs within 10 s. We have studied the effect of various factors on the adsorption process, including pH, concentration, dosage, and temperature. The newly synthesized superparamagnetic DHLA@Fe3O4 nanoclusters open a new path for further development of the medical, catalysis, and environmental fields.

Abstract
Visible light induced photocatalysis converted solar energy to chemical energy in the form of hydrogen. g-C3N4 modified by thermal oxidation etching, doped S, and nonprecious metal cocatalyst CoS2 (CoS2@SCN) were used for photocatalytic hydrogen production. And then the charge transfer behavior and mechanism of various alcohol sacrificial agents on hydrogen evolution was analyzed by optical characterization, impedance analysis, Mott-Schottky, and photocurrent tests. The relationship between the structure and catalytic performance was also explored using characterization methods. The results showed that CoS2 significantly improved the light absorption of g-C3N4, and carrier migration and separation. And when the sacrificial agent was triethanolamine, the nanocomposite CoS2@SCN exhibited best catalytic performance with the highest hydrogen activity of 223.6 μmol g-1 h-1, the minimum volume in-phase charge transfer resistance with 55.19 Ω and the maximum photocurrent and photocurrent density with 5.5 μA cm-2 and 0.63 mA cm-2. The more negatively charged surface of organic alcohols were, the easier they were to react with holes, thus enhanced charge transfer and hydrogen production efficiency. This report provides guidance for the selection of hydrogen producing sacrificial agents and preparation of highly charge-efficient catalysts. And it also provides a theoretical basis for hydrogen production from wastewater and environmental remediation.

Abstract
A series of nitrogen-doped carbon aerogels (NCAs) were obtained through phase reaction polymerization and different carbonization temperatures to enhance adsorption efficacy of hexavalent chromium (Cr[VI]) from wastewater significantly. Factors that influence adsorption properties of carbon aerogel microspheres toward Cr(VI), such as pH, adsorbent content, initial Cr(VI) concentrations, and coexisting anion, were investigated. Three isotherm (Langmuir, Freundlich, and Sips) and three kinetic (pseudofirst-order, pseudosecond-order, and Elovich) models were used to interpret the adsorption process. The adsorption capacity of Cr(VI) reached 180.62 mg·g-1, which was superior to that of most aerogel adsorbents. In addition to the adsorption effect, the XPS results also showed that N-containing groups on the NCA surface reduce the adsorbed Cr(VI) to the less toxic Cr(III). The prepared sorbent demonstrates a negligible loss in adsorption capacity after 6 cycles. NCAs show acceptable application prospects in selective removal of Cr(VI) ions.

Abstract
Dendrimers as commonly used metal ions adsorption materials have the advantages of good adsorption performance and high reuse rate, but the high cost limits its extensive use. Compared with dendrimers, hyperbranched dendrimers have similar physical and chemical properties and are more economical. Therefore, hyperbranched dendrimers are more suitable for industrial large-scale adsorption. The hyperbranched polyamidoamine (HPAMAM) gels were prepared by cross-linking hyperbranched polyamidoamine (HPAMAM-ECH-x and HPAMAM-EGDE-x) with different amounts of epichlorohydrin (ECH) and ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether (EGDE), respectively. The as-synthesized adsorbents were characterized by FT-IR, SEM and XPS. The prepared adsorbents were used to adsorb Hg(Ⅱ) in aqueous solution, and the effects of solution pH, contact time, temperature and initial concentration of metal ion on the adsorption capacity were investigated. The effect of solution pH indicated that the optimum condition to Hg(Ⅱ) removing was at pH 5.0. The adsorption kinetic curves of the two kinds of materials were in accordance with the pseudo-second-order model. For the HPAMAM-ECH samples, the adsorption thermodynamic curves fitted the Langmuir model, while for the HPAMAM-EGDE samples, both Langmuir and Freundlich equations fitted well. The maximum adsorption capacity of HPAMAM-ECH-3 obtained from Langmuir model toward Hg(Ⅱ) was 3.36 mmol/g at pH 5.0 and 35°C.

Abstract
Nanoarray catalysts supported on substrates provide an opportunity for industrially promising overall water splitting at large current densities. However, most of the present electrocatalysts show high overpotentials at a large current density, inducing a low efficiency for industrial water electrolysis. Herein, using the classic NiCoP nanorod arrays as the basic catalyst model, we presented a trace W and Mo co-doped strategy to boost the overall water splitting electrocatalysis at an industrial current density. After a trace amount of W and Mo atoms was doped, the constructed W and Mo co-doped NiCoP nanorod arrays (W,Mo-NiCoP/NF) show a low overpotential of 249 mV towards the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) at a very large current density of 1000 mA cm-2. We deduce that the regulation of the electronic structure caused by the trace W and Mo atoms, as well as the intrinsic features of nanoarrays leads to enhanced catalytic activity. In addition, a significant enhancement towards the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) was also achieved by this co-doped strategy. Finally, an overall water splitting device using W,Mo-NiCoP/NF as both the anode and cathode was assembled to exhibit a low cell voltage of 1.85 V at a large current density of 500 mA cm-2 and an excellent long-term stability within 50 h, better than most of the state-of-the-art bifunctional electrocatalysts yet reported. Our results highlight the significance of trace-doping engineering in industrial water electrolysis.

Abstract
Although the electrochemical production of hydrogen has been considered as a promising strategy to obtain the sustainable resources, the sluggish kinetics of anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) hindered the sustainable energy development. Herein, we design mesoporous cobalt ferrite phosphides hybridized on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) as a highly efficient bifunctional catalyst through a simple nanocasting method. The hybrid catalyst possesses the abundant interface, which provides the large active sites, as well as the hybrid rGO accelerates the electron exchange and ion diffusion. Moreover, the mesoporous structure not only prevents the aggregation of actives sites, but also benefits for the rapid escape of bubbles during catalytical process, which can significantly improve the catalytic performance. Consequently, the resulting mCo0.5Fe0.5P/rGO shows superior catalytic performance with a low overpotential of 250 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm-2 for OER and outstanding long-term stability. More importantly, an electrolyzer with mCo0.5Fe0.5P/rGO as both anode and cathode catalysts shows a low voltage of 1.66 V to afford a current density of 10 mA cm-2. This work offers a new route for designing the highly efficient OER and overall water splitting electrocatalysts.

Highly porous copper-supported magnetic nanocatalysts: made of volcanic pumice textured by cellulose and applied for the reduction of nitrobenzene derivatives. RSC Adv 2021; 11:25284-25295. Abstract
Herein, a novel designed heterogeneous catalytic system constructed of volcanic pumice magnetic particles (VPMPs), cellulose (CLS) as a natural polymeric matrix, and copper nanoparticles (Cu NPs) is presented. Also, to enhance the inherent magnetic property of VPMP, iron oxide (Fe3O4) nanoparticles have been prepared and incorporated in the structure via an in situ process. As its first and foremost excellent property, the designed composite is in great accordance with green chemistry principles because it contains natural ingredients. Another brilliant point in the architecture of the designed composite is the noticeable porosity of VPMP as the core of the composite structure (surface area: 84.473 m2 g-1). This great porosity leads to the use of a small amount (0.05 g) of the particles for catalytic purposes. However, the main characterization methods, such as Fourier-transform infrared and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and electron microscopy, revealed that the spherical metallic particles (Fe and Cu oxides) were successfully distributed onto the surface of the VPMP and CLS matrices. Further, vibrating-sample magnetometer analysis confirmed the enhancement of the magnetic property (1.5 emu g-1) of the composite through the addition of Fe3O4 nanoparticles. Further, the prepared (Fe3O4@VPMP/CLS-Cu) nanocomposite has been applied to facilitate the reduction reaction of hazardous nitrobenzene derivatives (NBDs) to their aniline analogs, with 98% conversion efficiency in eight minutes under mild conditions. Moreover, the good reusability of the catalytic system has been verified after recycling it ten times without any significant decrease in the performance.
