Abstract
Heavy metals are highly toxic and nonbiodegradable, posing a serious threat to the water environment and human beings. Therefore, it is crucial to develop a highly efficient adsorbent that is easy to recover and separate for the removal of heavy metals. In this paper, nitrogen-doped magnetic carbon (NC-67) was prepared by carbonization and hydrochloric acid treatment using cobalt-containing MOF (ZIF-67) as precursor. Then, polyaniline (PANI) was grown directly on NC-67 with high specific surface area by in situ polymerization to prepare polyaniline-coated nitrogen-doped magnetic carbon (NC-67@PANI), which was characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM and VSM, etc. and used for the removal of Cr(VI)from wastewater. The experimental results showed that the adsorption process of Cr(VI) by NC-67@PANI was spontaneous and endothermic, which conformed to the pseudo-second-order model and Freundlich adsorption isotherm model. Due to the synergistic effect of adsorption and reduction, the experimental adsorption capacity of NC-67@PANI for Cr(VI) was 410.2 mg/g. NC-67@PANI maintained a removal efficiency of 65.8% for Cr(VI) after five cycles. In addition, NC-67@PANI had good magnetism and was easy to separate under external magnetic field. The excellent adsorption capacity and easy separation characteristics of NC-67@PANI indicate that it is a promising adsorbent for Cr(VI) removal from wastewater.

Abstract
Industrialization has caused a significant global issue with cadmium (Cd) pollution. In this study, Biochar (Bc), generated through initial pyrolysis of rice straw, underwent thorough mixing with magnetized bentonite clay, followed by activation with KOH and subsequent pyrolysis. Consequently, a magnetized bentonite modified rice straw biochar (Fe3O4@B-Bc) was successfully synthesized for effective treatment and remediation of this problem. Fe3O4@B-Bc not only overcomes the challenges associated with the difficult separation of individual bentonite or biochar from water, but also exhibited a maximum adsorption capacity of Cd(II) up to 241.52 mg g-1. The characterization of Fe3O4@B-Bc revealed that its surface was rich in C, O and Fe functional groups, which enable efficient adsorption. The quantitative calculation of the contribution to the adsorption mechanism indicates that cation exchange and physical adsorption accounted for 65.87% of the total adsorption capacity. In conclusion, Fe3O4@B-Bc can be considered a low-cost and recyclable green adsorbent, with broad potential for treating cadmium-polluted water.

Abstract
The present study evaluated the performance of multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)@MgAl-layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanoparticles loaded on poly-2 aminothiazole (PAT)/chitosan (CS) matrix (CPML) to remove Cd2+ ions from aqueous solution. The removal efficiency of modified CS/PAT with MWCNT@MgAl-LDHs was increased significantly compared to pure CS/PAT. The influence of heavy metal ion concentration, pH, temperature, adsorbent dosage, and contact time on the adsorption was examined. The optimum conditions for the adsorption of Cd2+ ions were 25 0C with the adsorbent dosage of 0.06 g and initial concentration for adsorption of the Cd2+ 100 mg/L at pH = 8. The maximum adsorption capacity was measured to be 1106.19 mg/g. The values of thermodynamic parameters namely Gibbs free energy (ΔG°), entropy change (ΔS°), and enthalpy change (ΔH°) indicated the feasibility, spontaneity and the endothermic nature of the adsorption process, respectively. The pseudo-second-order kinetics and the Langmuir model were selected as the best models for the adsorption process. Also, CPML nanocomposite (NC) was successfully tested for p-nitrophenol (p-NP) reduction in the presence of NaBH4. The reaction was nearly completed in 6 min. The fabricated CPML-NC could be reused for three consecutive cycles.

Abstract
Herein, lignin-modified metal-organic frameworks (NH2-UIO@L) are prepared using a one-step synthesis as sorbents for the removal of organic dyes from water. The introduction of lignin improved the adsorption sites. NH2-UIO@L2 adsorption of MO conforms to Langmuir model, and the adsorption capacity of NH2-UIO@L2 on MO was 214.13 mg·L-1 with an adsorption efficiency up to 99.28 %, which was significantly higher than values for other adsorbents. Due to hydrogen bonds, π-π interactions and electrostatic interactions, MO was effectively removed by NH2-UIO@L2 and its adsorption efficiency is maintained at 90.55 % after six cycles. The adsorption kinetics showed that the NH2-UIO@L2 adsorption of MO was chemical adsorption and controlled by intraparticle diffusion and external mass transfer. Further, the adsorption performance of NH2-UIO@L2 on MO and MB in mixed MO/MB solution was investigated. The adsorption capacity of NH2-UIO@L2 in mixed MO/MB solution was 207.04 mg·L-1 for MO and 243.31 mg·L-1 for MB; the adsorption of NH2-UIO@L2 on MO followed the Dubinin-Radushkevich and pseudo-second-order models, and the adsorption on MB followed the Temkin and pseudo-second-order models. Hydrogen bonds, π-π interactions, and pore filling are all implicated in the removal of MO and MB. In particular, the electrostatic attraction between MB and MO improves the adsorption efficiency of NH2-UIO@L2 on MB. NH2-UIO@L2 has good reusability, maintaining an adsorption efficiency of 97.66 % for MO and up to 99.15 % for MB after six cycles. Its simple preparation and superior adsorption suggest that NH2-UIO@L2 has considerable potential to remove organic dyes from wastewater.

Abstract
In the present work, a novel, floral-like, magnetic sodalite microsphere (SODM) was synthesized in situ by using fly ash (FA) and metakaolin (MK) as raw materials and was used to remove Cd(II) from water. Its magnetism can solve the problems of adsorbent recovery and possible secondary pollution. During the static adsorption, SODM shows a maximum adsorption capacity of 245.17 mg/g. The adsorption of Cd(II) on the SODM surface is spontaneous, exothermic, and physicochemical adsorption, which was evaluated by thermodynamics, kinetics, and isotherm studies. During dynamic adsorption, SODM shows a maximum adsorption capacity of 342.74 mg/g in the simulated solution prepared by the deionized water, compared to 215.88 mg/g in the simulated solution prepared using Xiangsi Lake water from Guangxi Minzu University. At 0.5 g SODM dosage in the dynamic adsorption, the adsorption capacity could rise to 632.81 mg/g. These results demonstrated the excellent Cd (II) adsorption performance of the SODM. The adsorption of cadmium on the SODM surface includes the synergistic effects of electrostatic attraction, ion exchange, and surface coordination reaction. Besides, the SODM shows good regeneration performance in both the deionized water and Xiangsi Lake water. The present study explores SODM as an adsorbent for the Cd (II) removal from wastewater and unbolts the industrial applicability of the SODM in the field of wastewater purification.

Abstract
Peroxymonosulfate (PMS) based advanced oxidation processes have gained widespread attention in refractory antibiotics treatment. In this study, Fe3O4 nanoparticles anchored nitrogen-doped porous carbon microspheres (Fe3O4/NCMS) were synthesized and applied to PMS heterogeneous activation for doxycycline hydrochloride (DOX-H) degradation. Benefitting from synergy effects of porous carbon structure, nitrogen doping, and fine dispersion of Fe3O4 nanoparticles, Fe3O4/NCMS showed excellent DOX-H degradation efficiency within 20 min via PMS activation. Further reaction mechanisms revealed that the reactive oxygen species including hydroxyl radicals (•OH) and singlet oxygen (1O2) played the dominant role for DOX-H degradation. Moreover, Fe(II)/Fe(III) redox cycle also participated in the radical generation, and nitrogen-doped carbonaceous structures served as the highly active centers for non-radical pathways. The possible degradation pathways and intermediate products accompanying DOX-H degradation were also analyzed in detail. This study provides key insights into the further development of heterogeneous metallic oxides-carbon catalysts for antibiotic-containing wastewater treatment.

Abstract
A ternary composite (SA/GE@BC) for cadmium removal from wastewater was successfully prepared. The alginate and gelatin were successfully impregnated with biochar (derived from water caltrop shell) to improve the recyclability and adsorption capacity. The prepared SA/GE@BC demonstrated a good removal for cadmium at pH 4.0-7.0 conditions. The cadmium removal increased with increasing SA/GE@BC dosage. The adsorption kinetics process was well consistent with the pseudo-second order model. And the Langmuir model (R2 > 0.99) best described the isotherm data. The calculated adsorption capacity reached a maximum of 86.25 mg/g. The adsorption was a spontaneous and endothermic process, and elevating temperature favored the removal of cadmium. The alginate-gelatin composition enhanced the number of oxygenated functional groups and exchangeable ions. This enhanced the removal of cadmium by complexation and cation ion exchange. Also, the removal mechanism of cadmium on SA/GE@BC involved electrostatic attraction and π-bond coordination. The saturated SA/GE@BC could be well regenerated by 0.1 M HNO3. All these results suggested the preparation of SA/GE@BC could effectively use waste resources to produce highly effective adsorbents for removing cadmium from contaminated water.

Abstract
Nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) has drawn great interest in the remediation of contaminated waters. In this study, we prepared a novel and stable nZVI embedded in N-doped carbon matrix (nZVI@MOF-CN) using a facile direct carbonization method, in which an iron-containing metal-organic framework (MOF) served as both the iron and carbon sources, and melamine as the nitrogen source. The nZVI@MOF-CN composites were used in the removal of bromate in water, which could be effectively reduced by the surface electrons transferred from nZVI to the carbon encapsulation layer due to the Schottky-Mott effect. Doped nitrogen significantly facilitated the reduction of bromate by nZVI, because it enhanced the nZVI dispersion and bromate adsorption, and modulated the carbon matrix conductivity. The bromate reduction activity of nZVI@MOF-CN was more than 50 times higher that of its un-doped counterpart and a commercial nZVI. Moreover, owing to the protection of carbon encapsulation layer, nZVI@MOF-CN exhibited good stability and reusability. The leached concentration of iron ions of nZVI@MOF-CN was less than 5% of the commercial nZVI under the same reaction conditions. Commercial nZVI almost completely lost its bromate reduction activity after use (3% reduction efficiency in the examined time frame), while nZVI@MOF-CN maintained a reduction efficiency of 61%. The nZVI@MOF-CN could be effectively regenerated by hydrogenation reduction. After five reaction-regeneration cycles, nZVI@MOF-CN still achieved a bromate reduction efficiency of approximately 80%. These results suggest that MOF-derived nZVI materials are highly reactive and stable for the reductive removal of pollutants in water.
