Abstract
Ruthenium complexes are emerging as one of the most promising classes of complexes for cancer therapy. However, their limited aqueous solubility may be the major limitation to their potential clinical application. In view and to contribute to the progress of this field, eight new water-soluble Ru(II) organometallic complexes of general formula [RuCp(mTPPMS)n(L)] [CF3SO3], where mTPPMS = diphenylphosphane-benzene-3-sulfonate, for n = 2, L is an imidazole-based ligand (imidazole, 1-benzylimidazole, 1-butylimidazole, (1-(3-aminopropyl)imidazole), and (1-(4-methoxyphenyl)imidazole)), and for n = 1, L is a bidentate heteroaromatic ligand (2-benzoylpyridine, (di(2-pyridyl)ketone), and (1,2-(2-pyridyl)benzo-[b]thiophene)) were synthesized and characterized. The new complexes were fully characterized by NMR, FT-IR, UV–vis., ESI-HRMS, and cyclic voltammetry, which confirmed all the proposed molecular structures. The antiproliferative potential of the new Ru(II) complexes was evaluated on MDAMB231 breast adenocarcinoma, A2780 ovarian carcinoma, and HT29 colorectal adenocarcinoma cell lines, showing micromolar (MDAMB231 and HT29) and submicromolar (A2780) IC50 values. The interaction of complex 6 with human serum albumin (HSA) and fatty-acid-free human serum albumin (HSAfaf) was evaluated by fluorescence spectroscopy techniques, and the results revealed that the ruthenium complex strongly quenches the intrinsic fluorescence of albumin in both cases.

Abstract
The C-O bond cleavage of a propargylic alcohol, 1,1-dimethyl-3-phenylprop-2-yn-1-ol (3), by metal-ligand cooperation was investigated. The reactions of a naphthalene complex [CpRu(η6-C10H8)]PF6 (Cp = η5-C5H5) with 5-R-3-(pyrid-2-yl)pyrazoles (R-LH; R = Ph, CF3) in acetonitrile afforded the starting metal-ligand bifunctional ruthenium complexes [CpRu(R-LH)(MeCN)]PF6 (1a, R = Ph; 1b, R = CF3) featuring an N-N chelate protic pyrazole. The treatment of the CF3-substituted pyrazole complex 1b with 3 in 1,2-dichloroethane at 50 °C resulted in the formation of the η3-butadienyl complex 5. Meanwhile, the corresponding reaction of the phenylpyrazole complex 1a in 1,4-dioxane at 90 °C gave the N-allenylmethylpyrazole complex 6. The C-O and C-H bond cleavage of 3 in these reactions can be ascribed to the metal-ligand cooperation: initial formation of an η3-propargyl complex assisted by NHO hydrogen bonding and following C-H deprotonation by the neighboring pyrazolato ligand. On the other hand, in boiling methanol, the protic pyrazole complex 1a catalyzed the C-O bond cleavage of 3, which resulted in catalytic isomerization of 3 to an α,β-unsaturated enone, 3-methyl-1-phenylbut-2-en-1-one (8). The control experiments using non-protic and isocyanide ruthenium complexes indicated that both a labile nitrile ligand on the metal and the protic cooperating ligand are crucial for the catalysis.

Abstract
In recent years, metal complexes of organo 1,2,3-triazole click-derived ligands have attracted significant attention as catalysts in many chemical transformations and also as biological and pharmaceutical active agents. Regarding the important applications of these metal-organo 1,2,3-triazole-based complexes, in this review, we focused on the recently reported investigations of the structural, electronic, and spectroscopic aspects of the complexation process in transition metal complexes of 1,2,3-triazole-based click ligands. In line with this, the coordination properties of these triazole-based click ligands with transition metals were studied via several quantum chemistry calculations. Moreover, considering the complexation process, we have presented comparative discussions between the computational results and the available experimental data.

Abstract
Anticancer activity of the new [Ru(η(5)-C5H5)(PPh3)(Me2bpy)][CF3SO3] (Me2bpy = 4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine) complex was evaluated in vitro against several human cancer cell lines, namely A2780, A2780CisR, HT29, MCF7, MDAMB231 and PC3. Remarkably, the IC50 values, placed in the nanomolar and sub-micromolar range, largely exceeded the activity of cisplatin. Binding to human serum albumin, either HSA (human serum albumin) or HSA(faf) (fatty acid-free human serum albumin) does not affect the complex activity. Fluorescence studies revealed that the present ruthenium complex strongly quench the intrinsic fluorescence of albumin. Cell death by the [Ru(η(5)-C5H5)(PPh3)(Me2bpy)][CF3SO3] complex was reduced in the presence of endocytosis modulators and at low temperature, suggesting an energy-dependent mechanism consistent with endocytosis. On the whole, the biological activity evaluated herein suggests that the complex could be a promising anticancer agent.

Abstract
Three new ruthenium complexes with bidentate chloroquine analogue ligands, [Ru(η(6)-cym)(L(1))Cl]Cl (1, cym = p-cymene, L(1) = N-(2-((pyridin-2-yl)methylamino)ethyl)-7-chloroquinolin-4-amine), [Ru(η(6)-cym)(L(2))Cl]Cl (2, L(2) = N-(2-((1-methyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl)methylamino)ethyl)-7-chloroquinolin-4-amine) and [Ru(η(6)-cym)(L(3))Cl] (3, L(3) = N-(2-((2-hydroxyphenyl)methylimino)ethyl)-7-chloroquinolin-4-amine) have been synthesized and characterized. In addition, the X-ray crystal structure of 2 is reported. The antimalarial activity of complexes 1-3 and ligands L(1), L(2) and L(3), as well as the compound N-(2-(bis((pyridin-2-yl)methyl)amino)ethyl)-7-chloroquinolin-4-amine (L(4)), against chloroquine sensitive and chloroquine resistant Plasmodium falciparum malaria strains was evaluated. While 1 and 2 are less active than the corresponding ligands, 3 exhibits high antimalarial activity. The chloroquine analogue L(2) also shows good activity against both the chloroquine sensitive and the chloroquine resistant strains. Heme aggregation inhibition activity (HAIA) at an aqueous buffer/n-octanol interface (HAIR(50)) and lipophilicity (D, as measured by water/n-octanol distribution coefficients) have been measured for all ligands and metal complexes. A direct correlation between the D and HAIR(50) properties cannot be made because of the relative structural diversity of the complexes, but it may be noted that these properties are enhanced upon complexation of the inactive ligand L(3) to ruthenium, to give a metal complex (3) with promising antimalarial activity.

Abstract
Four cationic ruthenium(II) complexes with the formula [Ru(eta(5)-C(5)H(5))(PPh(3))(2)](+), with L = 5-phenyl-1H-tetrazole (TzH) 1, imidazole (ImH) 2, benzo[1,2-b;4,3-b'] dithio-phen-2-carbonitrile (Bzt) 3, and [5-(2-thiophen-2-yl)-vinyl]-thiophene-2-carbonitrile] (Tvt) 4 were prepared and characterized in view to evaluate their potentialities as antitumor agents. Studies by Circular Dichroism indicated changes in the secondary structure of ct-DNA. Changes in the tertiary structure of pBR322 plasmid DNA were also observed in gel electrophoresis experiment and the images obtained by atomic force microscopy (AFM) suggest strong interaction with pBR322 plasmid DNA; the observed decreasing of the viscosity with time indicates that the complexes do not intercalate between DNA base pairs. Compounds 1, 2, and 3 showed much higher cytotoxicity than the cisplatin against human leukaemia cancer cells (HL-60 cells).
