Abstract
BACKGROUND Infant colic is a multifactorial syndrome for which various therapeutic strategies have been proposed. In this study, we evaluate the effectiveness of osteopathic manual therapy in treating symptoms related to infant colic. METHOD A prospective, randomised, blinded clinical trial was conducted of patients diagnosed with infant colic. The treatment group were given osteopathic manual therapy, and their parents received two sessions of counselling. The control group received no such therapy, but their parents attended the same counselling sessions. The non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test was applied to determine whether there were significant differences between the groups for the numerical variables considered. For the qualitative variables, Fisher's exact test was used. The threshold assumed for statistical significance was 0.05. RESULTS A total of 42 babies were assigned to each group. Those in the experimental group presented less severe infant colic with a trend towards statistical significance after the first session (p = 0.09). In sucking, excretion, eructation and gas there were no significant differences between the groups. Crying was a statistically significant dimension both after the first intervention (p = 0.03) and two weeks after (p = 0.04). Regurgitation values were significantly lower in the experimental group during the three weeks of follow-up (p = 0.05). Values for sleep were lower in the experimental group, but the differences were not statistically significant. In both groups, colic severity decreased over time, with no side effects. CONCLUSIONS Treatment with osteopathic manual therapy alleviates the symptoms of infant colic and could be recommended for this purpose from the onset of the condition.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The consumption of dietary Maillard reaction products (MRPs) might lead to positive or negative effects on health. The digestibility of half-fin anchovy hydrolysates/glucose MRPs (HAHp(9.0)-G MRPs) was therefore determined. The intestinal microbiota modulation of HAHp(9.0)-G MRPs in mice was also evaluated after administration for 14 days (1 g kg-1 •bodyweight). RESULTS Different levels of digestibility of MRPs of fructosamine and advanced glycation products of Nε -carboxymethyllysine were detected in HAHp(9.0)-G MRPs during simulated gastrointestinal digestion. An increased relative proportion of soluble fluorescent melanoidins (SFMs) was observed during gastric digestion as compared to that in the original HAHp(9.0)-G MRPs, followed by decreases in SFMs in intestinal digestion. After feeding with HAHp(9.0)-G MRPs for 14 days, increased goblet cells were observed in the ileum regions of female and male mice. High-throughput 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing of fecal samples revealed that HAHp(9.0)-G MRPs administration increased the density of the phylum Bacteriodetes and reduced the density of the phylum Firmicutes in male mice. By comparison, a relatively higher density of members of the phylum Saccharibacteria was observed in female mice. A consistent increase in the abundance of Bacteroidales_S24-7_group_norank was found in female and male groups fed with HAHp(9.0)-G MRPs. Female and male mice treated with HAHp(9.0)-G MRPs also showed higher levels of propionic and butyric acids in feces than their corresponding controls. CONCLUSION Half-fin anchovy hydrolysates/glucose MRPs can be partly hydrolyzed in the simulated gastrointestinal digestion system. Treatment with HAHp(9.0)-G MRPs induced sex-related differences in bacterial abundance and diversity in mice; however, the up-regulation of anti-inflammatory activity was predicted in both female and male mice. © 2021 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
The pregnancy period and first days of a newborn's life is an important time window to ensure a healthy development of the baby. This is also the time when the mother and her baby are exposed to the same environmental conditions and intake of nutrients, which can be determined by assessing the blood metabolome. For this purpose, dried blood spots (DBS) of newborns are a valuable sampling technique to characterize what happens during this important mother-child time window. We used metabolomics profiles from DBS of newborns (age 2-3 days) and maternal plasma samples at gestation week 24 and postpartum week 1 from n=664 mother-child pairs of the Copenhagen Prospective Studies on Asthma in Childhood 2010 (COPSAC2010) cohort, to study the vertical mother-child transfer of metabolites. Further, we investigated how persistent the metabolites are from the newborn and up to 6 months, 18 months, and 6 years of age. Two hundred seventy two metabolites from UPLC-MS (Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry) analysis of DBS and maternal plasma were analyzed using correlation analysis. A total of 11 metabolites exhibited evidence of transfer (R>0.3), including tryptophan betaine, ergothioneine, cotinine, theobromine, paraxanthine, and N6-methyllysine. Of these, 7 were also found to show persistence in their levels in the child from birth to age 6 years. In conclusion, this study documents vertical transfer of environmental and food-derived metabolites from mother to child and tracking of those metabolites through childhood, which may be of importance for the child's later health and disease.

Abstract
PURPOSE To construct a middle-range theory, based on the Roy adaptation model, for nurses can diagnose an ineffective infant feeding pattern. DATA SOURCE Scientific findings were used through a literature review and the concepts of the Roy model. DATA SYNTHESIS The theory indicated new elements for the diagnosis: 12 etiological factors and 13 clinical indicators. Most of those are not contained in the NANDA taxonomy. CONCLUSION The middle-range theory for these diagnoses highlights the need for a review of the components present in the taxonomy. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING PRACTICE This approach guides research on nursing diagnoses to revise the content of the theory and to expand its concepts and elements for the diagnosis of an ineffective infant feeding pattern.

Abstract
PURPOSE To analyze the content of the concepts present in the nursing diagnosis of Ineffective infant feeding pattern. DESIGN AND METHODS Content validation of nursing diagnosis based on the predictive diversity model. A methodological study of the content validation of a nursing diagnosis was based on the predictive diversity model and performed in the following three stages: conceptual definition of the phenomenon of interest; organization of the phenomenon of interest; and analysis by judges of the concepts of the phenomenon of interest. RESULTS The first two stages identified 13 clinical indicators and 12 etiological factors, which were evaluated by 23 judges. The analyses of judgments were performed according to the level of expertise of the judges. All the clinical indicators were relevant to nursing diagnosis under study. Nine causal factors were analyzed, including the level of importance to the occurrence of Ineffective infant feeding pattern. CONCLUSIONS This study analyzed the diagnostic structure of Ineffective infant feeding pattern, which were considered representative of the phenomenon of interest after evaluation by the judges. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS The use of nursing diagnosis with accurate elements facilitates clinical reasoning and favors the development of an adequate care plan.

Abstract
Background: Accumulating evidence shows that high fat diet is closely associated with inflammatory bowel disease. However, the effects and underlying mechanisms of maternal high fat diet (MHFD) on the susceptibility of offspring to colitis in adulthood lacks confirmation. Methods: C57BL/6 pregnant mice were given either a high fat (60 E% fat, MHFD group) or control diet [10 E% fat, maternal control diet (MCD) group] during gestation and lactation. The intestinal development, mucosal barrier function, microbiota, and mucosal inflammation of 3-week old offspring were assessed. After weaning all mice were fed a control diet until 8 weeks of age when the microbiota was analyzed. Offspring were also treated with 2% DSS solution for 5 days and the severity of colitis was assessed. Results: The offspring in MHFD group were significantly heavier than those in MCD group only at 2–4 weeks of age, while no differences were found in the body weight between two groups at other measured time points. Compared with MCD group, MHFD significantly inhibited intestinal development and disrupted barrier function in 3-week old offspring. Although H&E staining showed no obvious microscopic inflammation in both groups of 3-week old offspring, increased production of inflammatory cytokines indicated low-grade inflammation was induced in MHFD group. Moreover, fecal analysis of the 3-week old offspring indicated that the microbiota compositions and diversity were significantly changed in MHFD group. Interestingly after 5 weeks consumption of control diet in both groups, the microbiota composition of offspring in MHFD group was still different from that in MCD group, although the bacterial diversity was partly recovered at 8 weeks of age. Finally, after DSS treatment in 8-week old offspring, MHFD significantly exacerbated the severity of colitis and increased the production of proinflammatory cytokine. Conclusions: Our data reveal that MHFD in early life can inhibit intestinal development, induce dysbiosis and low-grade inflammation and lead to the disruption of intestinal mucosal barrier in offspring, and enhance DSS-induced colitis in adulthood.

Abstract
The nanocomposite of half-fin anchovy hydrolysates (HAHp) and zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) (named as HAHp(3.0)/ZnO NPs) demonstrated increased antibacterial activity compared to either HAHp(3.0) or ZnO NPs as per our previous studies. Also, reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation was detected in Escherichia coli cells after treatment with HAHp(3.0)/ZnO NPs. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the acute toxicity of this nanocomposite and to investigate its effect on intestinal microbiota composition, short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) production, and oxidative status in healthy mice. The limit test studies show that this nanoparticle is non-toxic at the doses tested. The administration of HAHp(3.0)/ZnO NPs, daily dose of 1.0 g/kg body weight for 14 days, increased the number of goblet cells in jejunum. High-throughput 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing of fecal samples revealed that HAHp(3.0)/ZnO NPs increased Firmicutes and reduced Bacteriodetes abundances in female mice. Furthermore, the microbiota for probiotic-type bacteria, including Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, and SCFAs-producing bacteria in the Clostridia class, e.g., Lachnospiraceae_unclassified and Lachnospiraceae_UCG-001, were enriched in the feces of female mice. Increases of SCFAs, especially statistically increased propionic and butyric acids, indicated the up-regulated anti-inflammatory activity of HAHp(3.0)/ZnO NPs. Additionally, some positive responses in liver, like markedly increased glutathione and decreased malonaldehyde contents, indicated the improved oxidative status. Therefore, our results suggest that HAHp(3.0)/ZnO NPs could have potential applications as a safe regulator of intestinal microbiota or also can be used as an antioxidant used in food products.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of the study was to explore the correlation between clinical signs and confirmatory tests for cow's milk allergy (CMA) in the neonatal period and their relation to family history and the occurrence of food allergies in the postneonatal period. METHODS The medical documentation of 361 newborns with suspected CMA and exclusion of other comorbidities was analyzed. The correlations between clinical signs and methods to confirm CMA [elevated levels of total immunoglobulin E (IgE) and/or specific IgE for cow's milk, improvement after the introduction of a cow's milk-free diet and positive challenge procedure] were studied. In 90 children, the data were additionally analyzed in relation to outcome (at the age of 1-11 years), evaluated by questionnaires, which inquired about signs and symptoms of food allergy, methods of CMA confirmation, and the presence of other food allergies. RESULTS There was a positive correlation between exanthema and confirmed CMA in the neonatal period (R = 0.184; p = <0.001; n = 361), and hematochezia and confirmed CMA in the neonatal (R = 0.203; p < 0.001; n = 361) and postneonatal period (R = 0.215; p = 0.042; n = 90). Additional food allergies in the postneonatal period were positively correlated with neonatal CMA (R = 0.275; p = 0.009; n = 90). No correlation was found between a positive family history of food allergies and CMA in the neonatal (R = -0.66; p = 0.398; n = 165) and postneonatal periods (R = 0.00; p = 1.000; n = 116). CONCLUSION Neonatal exanthema and hematochezia were the predominant clinical signs in neonates with CMA. Allergies to other food allergens appeared more frequently in children with CMA in the neonatal period. Neonatal CMA did not occur more frequently in families with food allergies.
