Abstract
In this investigation, the photophysical properties and interaction mechanisms of Janus green blue (JGB) dye with polyanions were systematically studied using spectroscopic techniques. The absorption spectral analysis revealed that JGB binds cooperatively to sodium alginate, leading to dye stacking along the polymer chain. The interaction of JGB dye with DNA was characterized by the emergence of a metachromatic peak at 564 nm, indicating the formation of dye aggregates. The analysis of absorption data reveals that JGB dye interacts with DNA at multiple binding sites, including at least one high-affinity site. The AutoDock Vina based blind docking approach was used to analyze the most probable binding location of JGB dye in DNA. By making use of the DNA-induced metachromasia, a colorimetric approach was developed for the visualization of loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The LAMP-colorimetric assay, targeting the Streptococcus pneumoniae gene, demonstrated a noticeable colour change with a detection limit of 1 pg μL-1. The practical applicability was validated by detecting S. pneumoniae in artificial urine. In addition to LAMP, we tested the JGB dye based colorimetric assay for applicability in PCR reactions. The colorimetric PCR assay using the metal-responsive transcription factor (MTF-1) gene achieved a detection limit as low as 0.1 pg μL-1. The study highlights the potential of DNA binding metachromic dye to significantly enhance colorimetric assays, offering a robust and sensitive tool for molecular diagnostics.

Abstract
This work reports the synthesis of poly (itaconic acid) by thermal polymerization mediated by 2,2'-Azobis(2-methylpropionamidine) dihydrochloride. Furthermore, physical hydrogels were prepared by using high molecular weight poly (itaconic acid) characterized by low dispersity and laponite RD. The hydrogels presented porous 3D network structures, with a high-water penetration of almost 2000 g/g of swelling ratio, which can allow the adsorption sites of both poly (itaconic acid) and laponite RD to be easily exposed and facilitate the adsorption of dyes. The water adsorption followed Schott's pseudo-second-order model. The mechanism of the adsorption process was investigated using 1H and 31P NMR. The hydrogel is able to fast adsorb by a combination of electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonding by the synergic effect of the clay and poly (itaconic acid). Moreover, the prepared aerogels exhibited a fast removal of Basic Fuchsin, with an adsorption capacity of 67.56 mg/g and a high removal efficiency (~99 %). The adsorption followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir isotherm model. Furthermore, the thermodynamic parameters showed that the BF process of adsorption was spontaneous and feasible, endothermic, and followed physisorption. These results indicated that the PIA/laponite-based aerogel can be considered a promising adsorbent material in textile wastewater treatment.

Abstract
Acidimicrobium sp. Strain A6 (A6) can degrade perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) by oxidizing NH4+ while reducing Fe(Ⅲ). However, supplying and distributing Fe(III) phases in sediments is challenging since surface charges of Fe(III)-phases are typically positive while those of sediments are negative. Therefore, ferrihydrite particles were coated with polyacrylic acid (PAA) with four different molecular weights, resulting in a negative zeta potential on their surface. Zeta potential was determined as a function of pH and PAA loading, with the lowest value observed when the PAA/ferrihydrite ratio was > 1/5 (w/w) at a pH of 5.5. Several 50-day incubations with an A6-enrichment culture were conducted to determine the effect of PAA-coated ferrihydrite as the electron acceptor of A6 on the Feammox activity and PFOA degradation. NH4+ oxidation, PFOA degradation, production of shorter-chain PFAS, and F- were observed in all PAA-coated samples. The 6 K and 450 K treatments exhibited significant reductions in PFOA concentration and substantial F- production compared to incubations with bare ferrihydrite. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy showed lowered charge transfer resistance in the presence of PAA-coated ferrihydrite, indicating that PAAs facilitated electron transfer to ferrihydrite. This study highlights the potential of PAA-coated ferrihydrite in accelerating PFAS defluorination, providing novel insights for A6-based bioremediation strategies.

Abstract
Industrial growth can have a good impact on a country's economic growth, but it can also cause environmental problems, including water pollution. About 80% of industrial wastewater is discharged into the environment without treatment, of which 17-20% is dominated by dyes, such as methylene blue (MB) and methyl orange (MO) from the textile industry. Only about 5% of a textile dye is used in the dyeing process and the rest is discarded. This problem, of course, requires special handling considering the harmful effects to health. On the other hand, the abundance of plastic waste is increasing by 14% or 85 000 tons per year. This problem must be solved due to its film-forming properties. High-density polyethylene (HDPE) is one type of plastic used as a membrane material. Therefore, in this study, HDPE plastic waste was utilized as a membrane for dye removal. In this study, HDPE plastic waste was fabricated via a thermal-induced phase-separation method using mineral oil as a solvent at various concentrations of 8%, 10%, 13%, and 15% (w/w). All the membranes were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and contact angle measurements. The results showed that the HDPE membrane at a concentration of 15% displayed the best performance compared to the others in terms of MB rejection. The negative charge (-36.9) of the HDPE membrane was more effective for cationic dye removal compared to the anionic dye. The flux and rejection of HDPE 15% for 100 ppm MB and MO removal were 2.71 and 4.93 L m-2 h-1, and 99.72% and 89.8%, respectively. The pure water flux of the membrane was 15.01 L m-2 h-1 and the tensile strength was 0.3435 MPa.

Abstract
Polyelectrolytes are polymers with repeating units of ionizable groups coupled with counterions. Recently, polyelectrolytes have drawn significant attention as highly promising macromolecular materials with potential for applications in almost every sector of our daily lives. Dyes are another class of chemical compounds that can interact with substrates and subsequently impart color through the selective absorption of electromagnetic radiation in the visible range. This overview begins with an introduction to polyelectrolytes and dyes with their respective definitions, classifications (based on origin, molecular architecture, etc.), and applications in diverse fields. Thereafter, it explores the different possible interactions between polyelectrolytes and dyes, which is the main focus of this study. The various mechanisms involved in dye-polyelectrolyte interactions and the factors that influence them are also surveyed. Finally, these discussions are summarized, and their future perspectives are presented.

Abstract
The current problem of contamination caused by colored industrial effluents has led to the development of different techniques to remove these species from water. One of them, polymer-enhanced ultrafiltration (PEUF), has been systematically studied in this mini review, in which research works from 1971 to date were found and analyzed. Dye retention rates of up to 99% were obtained in several cases. In addition, a brief discussion of different parameters, such as pH, interfering salts, type of polymer, dye concentration, and membrane type, and their influence in dye removal is presented. It was concluded from the above that these factors can be adapted depending on the pollutant to be remediated, in order to optimize the process. Finally, theoretical approaches have been used to understand the intermolecular interactions, and development of the studied technique. In this revision, it is possible to observe that molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulations, density functional theory calculations, and hybrid neural-genetic algorithms based on an evolutionary approach are the most usual approximations used for this purpose. Herein, there is a detailed discussion about what was carried out in order to contribute to the research development of this important science field.

Abstract
Protamine, a polycation, is biologically and medically relevant protein. Protamine exhibits a wide array of functions in biological processes like gene transfer, tissue and organogenesis, cell reproduction, etc. Medically, Protamine is the only clinically approved antidote for Heparin and is routinely used in various surgical interventions, and hence controlling Protamine dosing in patients is very crucial. Taking into account the medical significance of Protamine, designing simple, reliable and sensitive fluorescence sensors is highly desirable. In this work, we propose one such sensitive and reliable fluorescent sensor which is based on a template of dye-polyelectrolyte assembly constituting a molecular rotor dye, Thioflavin-T and an anionic synthetic polyelectrolyte, polystyrene sulfonate. The addition of Protamine, prompts drastic modulations in spectral features of dye-polyelectrolyte assembly which enables sensitive detection of Protamine in aqueous solution. Apart from sensitive detection, our sensing platform aids in highly selective sensing of Protamine compared to other proteins. Moreover, our sensor system is constructed on label-free, inexpensive, commercially available molecules posing as an advantage over other sensor systems which involve laborious synthesis protocols. Most importantly, our sensor template is able to sense Protamine in diluted serum sample, indicating the potential practical utility of our sensor system.

Abstract
In this study, we used a liquid-phase polymer-based retention technique assisted by polyelectrolyte copolymers containing quaternary ammonium and sulfonate groups that are capable of removing the antibiotic tetracycline (TC) through electrostatic interactions. The polymers were synthesized using zwitterionic, anionic, and cationic monomers with the aim of obtaining copolymers with different charge balances at the ratios of 1:1, 2:1, and 1:2 (negative: positive). The parameters investigated for each copolymer included the pH, ionic strength, concentration of polymer, maximum retention capacity, and sorption-elution process at pH 11.0 and 3.0. The copolymers with a charge ratio of 1:2 achieved the highest retention (80.0%) at alkaline pH, while the copolymers with charge ratios of 2:1 and 1:1 exhibited the maximum retention (72.0%) at acidic pH. Based on these results, the pH and charge of the polyelectrolyte copolymers play important roles in the TC removal processes. Additionally, the maximum retention capacity (MRC) recorded was 731.2, 176.8, and 214.8 mg TC/g of copolymer in the first charge for the three copolymer polyelectrolytes, and the second charge of the MRC process did not improve compared with the first load.

Abstract
Dendrimers due to their unique architecture may play an important role in drug delivery systems including chemotherapy, gene therapy and recently, photodynamic therapy as well. We investigated two dendrimer-photosensitizer systems in context of potential use of these systems in photodynamic therapy. The mixtures of an anionic phosphorus dendrimer of the second generation and methylene blue were studied by UV-vis spectroscopy while that of a cationic phosphorus dendrimer (third generation) and rose bengal were investigated by spectrofluorimetric methods. Spectroscopic analysis of these two systems revealed the formation of dendrimer-photosensitizer complexes via electrostatic interactions as well as π stacking. The stoichiometry of the rose bengal-cationic dendrimer complex was estimated to be 7:1 and 9:1 for the methylene blue-anionic dendrimer complex. The results suggest that these polyanionic or polycationic phosphorus dendrimers can be promising candidates as carriers in photodynamic therapy.
