Abstract
Persicae Semen (Taoren), the seed of mature peaches consumed as both food and medicine, is native to the temperate regions of China, distributed in the provinces of North and East China, and currently cultivated worldwide. The primary components of Persicae Semen include volatile oil, protein, amino acids, amygdalin, and prunasin, all of which have pharmacological properties, such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immune regulatory effects, and are clinically used in the treatment of gynecological, cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, orthopedic, and digestive system diseases. This review provides a comprehensive perspective on the resource status, ethnopharmacology, phytochemistry, pharmacology, and toxicology, as well as the trend of Persicae Semen patent, global distribution, and clinical applications. This review will help facilitate the development and utilization of Persicae Semen in clinical settings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study used four different apricot (Prunus armeniaca) kernels cultivated in Malatya during two consecutive years. The varieties were Hacihaliloglu, Hasanbey, Kabaasi, and Zerdali. The physicochemical properties of the kernels were determined, and the bioactive content of the kernels was evaluated using kernel hydrolysates prepared using trypsin. RESULTS With regard to the physicochemical properties of the kernels, the dry matter ratio and protein content were the highest in the Hacihaliloglu variety; the ash ratio was the highest in the Kabaasi variety, and the free oil ratio was the highest in the Hasanbey variety. The bioactive compound content changed according to kernel variety. Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors activity was found to be the highest in the Hacihaliloglu and Hasanbey varieties, which had the lowest amygdalin content, and Zerdali had the highest amygdalin content. The antioxidant and antimicrobial effects of the kernels varied, with Hasanbey and Kabaasi generally having the highest content in both analyses. Moreover, a concentration of 20 mg mL-1 of the hydrolysate was determined to have a destructive effect for the microorganisms used in this study. The storage protein of the kernels, except Hacihaliloglu, was found to be Prunin 1, with the longest matching protein chain in the kernels being R.QQQGGQLMANGLEETFCSLRLK.E. CONCLUSION The results suggest that the peptide sequences identified in the kernels could have antihypertensive, antioxidative, and Dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-IV) inhibitory effects. Consequently, apricot kernels show potential for use in the production of functional food products. Of the kernels evaluated in this study, Hacihaliloglu and Hasanbey were deemed the most suitable varieties due to their higher bioactive content and lower amygdalin content. © 2024 The Author(s). Abstract
Over the past decades, the proteomics field has undergone rapid growth. Progress in mass spectrometry and bioinformatics, together with separation methods, has brought many innovative approaches to the study of the molecular biology of the cell. The potential of affinity chromatography was recognized immediately after its first application in proteomics, and since that time, it has become one of the cornerstones of many proteomic protocols. Indeed, this chromatographic technique exploiting the specific binding between two molecules has been employed for numerous purposes, from selective removal of interfering (over)abundant proteins or enrichment of scarce biomarkers in complex biological samples to mapping the post-translational modifications and protein interactions with other proteins, nucleic acids or biologically active small molecules. This review presents a comprehensive survey of this versatile analytical tool in current proteomics. To navigate the reader, the haphazard space of affinity separations is classified according to the experiment's aims and the separated molecule's nature. Different types of available ligands and experimental strategies are discussed in further detail for each of the mentioned procedures.

Abstract
Plum kernels are a promising source of dietary proteins that are irretrievably lost during processing. The recovery of these underexploited proteins could be eminently vital for human nutrition. Plum kernel protein isolate (PKPI) was prepared and exposed to a targeted supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) treatment to diversify its effectiveness in industrial applications. The impacts of SC-CO2 treatment at different processing temperatures (30-70 °C) on dynamic rheology, microstructure, thermal, and techno-functional characteristics of PKPI were investigated. The results revealed that the dynamic viscoelastic characteristics of SC-CO2-treated PKPIs showed higher storage modulus, loss modulus, and lower tan δ value than native PKPI, indicating greater strength and elasticity of the gels. Microstructural analysis showed that the proteins experienced denaturation at elevated temperatures and resulted in the formation of soluble aggregates, which increased the heat requirement for thermal denaturation of SC-CO2-treated samples. SC-CO2-treated PKPIs demonstrated a decline of 20.74% and 30.5% in crystallite size and crystallinity. PKPIs treated at 60 °C showed the highest dispersibility, which was 1.15-fold higher than the native PKPI sample. SC-CO2 treatment offers a novel path to improve the techno-functional properties of PKPIs and extend its use in food and non-food applications.

Abstract
There is an increasing demand for functional foods to attend the consumers preference for products with health benefits. Peach (Prunus persica), from Rosaceae family, is a worldwide well-known fruit, and its processing generates large amounts of by-products, consisting of peel, stone (seed shell + seed), and pomace, which represent about 10% of the annual global production, an equivalent of 2.4 million tons. Some studies have already evaluated the bioactive compounds from peach by-products, although, the few available reviews do not consider peach by-products as valuable materials for product design methodology. Thereby, a novelty of this review is related to the use of these mostly unexplored by-products as alternative sources of valuable components, encouraging the circular bioeconomy approach by designing new food products. Besides, this review presents recent peach production data, compiles briefly the extraction methods for the recovery of lipids, proteins, phenolics, and fiber from peach by-products, and also shows in vivo study reports on anti-inflammatory, anti-obesity, and anti-cerebral ischemia activities associated with peach components and by-product. Therefore, different proposals to recover bioactive fractions from peach by-products are provided, for further studies on food-product design.

Abstract
The effects of microwave heating (450 W for 6 min), hydrothermal treatment (6, 9, and 12 h at 45 °C) and their combination on compositional characteristics, cyanogenic glycosides, color, and bioactive compounds of plum kernels have been studied. The conditions examined caused a significant reduction of 37.81, 72.17, 84.41, 91.24 and 98.02% in cyanogenic glycosides of differently treated plum kernels. Total phenolic and total flavonoid compounds of plum kernels showed hydrothermal time-dependent duration decline. The larger shifts in FT-IR spectra near 1157 cm-1 provided valuable insights on the reduction of cyanogenic glycosides during combined treatments. The variation of color attributes (L*, a*, b*), during combined treatments indicates a more reddish tonality of plum kernel samples. The combined effect of hydrothermal (12 h at 45 °C) and microwave heating (450 W for 6 min) proved to be an effective tool for neutralizing the toxic effect of cyanogenic glycosides, opening up possibilities for its use in food industries. Hydrothermal and microwave treatments were applied to detoxify plum kernels. The treatments caused highest reduction of 98.02% in cyanogenic glycosides. Combined treatments neutralized the toxic effect of cyanogenic glycosides. FT-IR spectra provided valuable insights on the reduction of cyanogenic glycosides.

Abstract
Bioactive peptides have recently gained more research attention as potential therapies for the management of bodily disorders and metabolic syndromes of delicate health importance. On another note, there is a rising trend on a global scale for the consumption and adoption of fruit and vegetables for the fulfilment of dietary and health needs. Furthermore, fruits and vegetables are being more studied as base materials for the isolation of biologically functional components and accordingly, they have been investigated for their concomitant bioactive peptides. This review focuses on isolation and bio-functional properties of bioactive peptides from fruits and vegetables. This manuscript is potential in serving as a material collection for fundamental consultancy on peptides derived from fruits and vegetables, and further canvasses the necessitation for the use of these food materials as primal matter for such.

Abstract
Fruit residues with high protein contents are generated during the processing of some fruits. These sustainable sources of proteins are usually discarded and, in all cases, underused. In addition to proteins, these residues can also be sources of peptides with protective effects against oxidative damage. The revalorization of these residues, as sources of antioxidant peptides, requires the development of suitable methodologies for their extraction and the application of analytical techniques for their characterization. The exploitation of these residues involves two main steps: the extraction and purification of proteins and their hydrolysis to release peptides. The extraction of proteins is mainly carried out under alkaline conditions and, in some cases, denaturing reagents are also employed to improve protein solubilization. Alternatively, more sustainable strategies based on the use of high-intensity focused ultrasounds, microwaves, pressurized liquids, electric fields, or discharges, as well as deep eutectic solvents, are being implemented for the extraction of proteins. The scarce selectivity of these extraction methods usually makes the subsequent purification of proteins necessary. The purification of proteins based on their precipitation or the use of ultrafiltration has been the usual procedure, but new strategies based on nanomaterials are also being explored. The release of potential antioxidant peptides from proteins is the next step. Microbial fermentation and, especially, digestion with enzymes such as Alcalase, thermolysin, or flavourzyme have been the most common. Released peptides are next characterized by the evaluation of their antioxidant properties and the application of proteomic tools to identify their sequences.

Abstract
In plant tissues proteins are present in low amounts but in a very large number. To this peculiar situation many complex foreign components render protein extraction and purification very difficult. In the last several years interesting technologies have been described to improve the technical situation to the point that some methodologies allow reaching very low-abundance proteins and minor allergens. Among enrichment methods the one documented in this report is based on combinatorial peptide ligand libraries (CPLLs) that emerged in the last decade by contributing to largely improve the knowledge in plant proteomics. It is the aim of this review to describe how this technology allows detecting low-abundance proteins from various plant tissues and to report the dynamics of the proteome components in response to environmental changes and biotic attacks. Typical documented examples with the description of their scientific interest are reported. The described technical approach and selected applications are considered as one of the most advanced approaches for plant proteomics investigations with possibilities not only to enlarge the knowledge of plant proteomes but also to discover novel allergens as well as plant biomarkers subsequent to stressful situations.

Abstract
A peptide fraction with molecular masses below 3 kDa (PSH-3 kDa) from a peach seed hydrolysate demonstrated high angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity (concentration to inhibit 50% ACE (IC50) = 16.4 μg/mL) in our previous work. This work proposes a further study of this highly active fraction. RP-HPLC enabled two fractions (F3 and F4) with high inhibitory activity (IC50 = 2.0 ± 0.5 and 1.2 ± 0.2 μg/mL, respectively) to be isolated. Peptide analysis by LC-Q-TOF-MS/MS using reverse-phase and hydrophilic interaction chromatography enabled 33 peptides within both fractions to be identified. Among them, peptide isoleucine-tyrosine-serine-proline-histidine (IYSPH) showed the highest capacity. The lack of cytotoxicity of peptides was demonstrated in three different cell lines (HeLa, HT-29, and HK-2). Oral administration of PSH-3 kDa fraction or peptide IYSPH caused a significant systolic blood pressure reduction (-30 mmHg) on spontaneously hypertensive rats after 3-6 h treatment.

Abstract
Protein analysis of potential disease markers in blood is complicated by the fact that proteins in plasma show very different abundances. As a result, high-abundance proteins dominate the analysis, which often render the analysis of low-abundance proteins impossible. Depleting high-abundance proteins is one strategy to solve this problem. Here, we present, for the first time, a very simple approach based on selective binding of serum proteins to the surface of nanodiamonds. In our first proof-of-principle experiments, we were able to detect, on average, eight proteins that are present at a concentration of 1 ng/mL (instead of 0.5 ng/mL in the control without sample preparation). Remarkably, we detect proteins down to a concentration of 400 pg/mL after only one simple depletion step. Among the proteins we could analyze are also numerous disease biomarkers, including markers for multiple cancer forms, cardiovascular diseases, or Alzheimer's disease. Remarkably, many of the biomarkers we find also could not be detected with a state-of-the-art ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography column (which depletes the 64 most-abundant serum proteins).

Abstract
Prunus genus fruit seeds are sources of highly angiotensin-I-converting enzyme (ACE)-inhibitory peptides. The presence of peptides IYSPH, IYTPH, IFSPR, and VAIP seems to be related to this activity but no previous work has demonstrated the direct relationship between the concentration of these peptides and the antihypertensive activity of hydrolysates. This work describes the development of a method for the quantification of these peptides in Prunus seeds hydrolysates based on capillary liquid chromatography-IT-MS/MS. The analytical characteristics of the method were evaluated through the study of the linearity, LOD, LOQ, presence of matrix interferences, precision, and recovery. The developed methodology was applied to the determination of the four peptides in seed hydrolysates from different Prunus genus fruits: peaches (7 varieties), plums (2 varieties), nectarines (3 varieties), apricots (2 varieties), cherry, and paraguayo. Peaches and plums seed hydrolysates yielded the highest concentrations of these peptides while paraguayo one showed the lowest concentrations. A high correlation between peptides concentrations was demonstrated suggesting that the four peptides could be released from the same seed proteins.
