Abstract
Background: Alchornea laxiflora (Benth.) Pax & K. Hoffm. (A. laxiflora) has been indicated in traditional medicine to treat depression. However, scientific rationalization is still lacking. Hence, this study aimed to investigate the antidepressant potential of A. laxiflora using network pharmacology and molecular docking analysis. Materials and methods: The active compounds and potential targets of A. laxiflora and depression-related targets were retrieved from public databases, such as PubMed, PubChem, DisGeNET, GeneCards, OMIM, SwissTargetprediction, BindingDB, STRING, and DAVID. Essential bioactive compounds, potential targets, and signaling pathways were predicted using in silico analysis, including BA-TAR, PPI, BA-TAR-PATH network construction, and GO and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis. Later on, with molecular docking analysis, the interaction of essential bioactive compounds of A. laxiflora and predicted core targets of depression were verified. Results: The network pharmacology approach identified 15 active compounds, a total of 219 compound-related targets, and 14,574 depression-related targets with 200 intersecting targets between them. SRC, EGFR, PIK3R1, AKT1, and MAPK1 were the core targets, whereas 3-acetyloleanolic acid and 3-acetylursolic acid were the most active compounds of A. laxiflora with anti-depressant potential. GO functional enrichment analysis revealed 129 GO terms, including 82 biological processes, 14 cellular components, and 34 molecular function terms. KEGG pathway enrichment analysis yielded significantly enriched 108 signaling pathways. Out of them, PI3K-Akt and MAPK signaling pathways might have a key role in treating depression. Molecular docking analysis results exhibited that core targets of depression, such as SRC, EGFR, PIK3R1, AKT1, and MAPK1, bind stably with the analyzed bioactive compounds of A. laxiflora. Conclusion: The present study elucidates the bioactive compounds, potential targets, and pertinent mechanism of action of A. laxiflora in treating depression. A. laxiflora might exert an antidepressant effect by regulating PI3K-Akt and MAPK signaling pathways. However, further investigations are required to validate.

Abstract
Background Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is the most effective treatment for severe depression, but the biological changes induced by ECT remain poorly understood. Methods This study investigated alterations in blood serum proteins in 309 patients receiving ECT for a major depressive episode. We analyzed 201 proteins in samples collected at 3 time points (T): just before the first ECT treatment session (T0), within 30 minutes after the first ECT session (T1), and just before the sixth ECT session (T2). Results Using statistical models to account for repeated sampling, we identified 152 and 70 significantly (<5% false discovery rate) altered proteins at T1 and T2, respectively. The most pronounced alterations at T1 were transiently increased levels of prolactin, myoglobin, and kallikrein-6. However, most proteins had decreased levels at T1, with the largest effects observed for pro-epidermal growth factor, proto-oncogene tyrosine-protein kinase Src, tumor necrosis factor ligand superfamily member 14, sulfotransferase 1A1, early activation antigen CD69, and CD40 ligand. The change of several acutely altered proteins correlated with electric current and pulse frequency in a dose-response-like manner. Over a 5-session course of ECT, some acutely altered levels were sustained while others increased, e.g., serine protease 8 and chitinase-3-like protein 1. None of the studied protein biomarkers were associated with clinical response to ECT. Conclusions We report experimental data on alterations in the circulating proteome triggered by ECT in a clinical setting. The findings implicate hormonal signaling, immune response, apoptotic processes, and more. None of the findings were associated with clinical response to ECT.

Abstract
Background Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients have a greater prevalence of anxiety and depression. Proinflammatory cytokines are elevated in RA. We aim to evaluate the association between systemic inflammation in RA and anxiety and depression. Methods There were 31 RA patients, 16 with active disease activity and 15 in remission state; they were assessed using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and for RA disease activity using Disease Activity Score of 28 joints (DAS28) - CRP (C-reactive protein). Serum proinflammatory cytokines were measured, including interleukin (IL)-6, IL-17, and Tumour Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNF-α). Results Among 31 patients, ten patients showed anxiety symptoms, 19 patients showed depression symptoms, and two displayed mixed symptoms. Serum TNF-α levels were significantly higher in active disease than in the remission group (p-value 0.006). There was no association or correlation between proinflammatory cytokines to anxiety and depression symptoms in the active disease and remission groups. Conclusion This suggests that other factors besides disease activity and state of systemic inflammation may cause anxiety and depression in RA patients.

Abstract
Depression comorbid with cancer is common and associated with a host of negative health outcomes. The inflammatory basis of depression is a growing area of research in cancer, focused on how stressors transduce into inflammation and contribute to the emergence of depression. In this review, we synthesize inflammatory biomarker associations with both depression and the currently available pharmacotherapies and psychotherapies in cancer, underscoring the need for expanding research on anti-inflammatory agents with antidepressant effects. Modulation of inflammatory neuroimmune pathways can slow tumor progression and reduce metastases. Biomarkers associated with depression in cancer may help with diagnosis and treatment monitoring, as well as inform research on novel drug targets to potentially improve cancer survival.

Abstract
Previously, we demonstrated an integrated genomic convergence and network analysis approach to identify the candidate genes associated with the complex neurodegenerative disorder, Alzheimer's disease (AD). Here, we performed a pilot study to validate the in silico approach by studying the association of genetic variants from three identified critical genes, APOE, EGFR, and ACTB, with AD. A total of 103 patients with AD and 146 healthy controls were recruited. A total of 46 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) spanning the three genes were genotyped, of which only 19 SNPs were included in the final analyses after excluding non-polymorphic and Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium-violating SNPs. Apart from our previously reported APOE ε4, four other SNPs in APOE (rs405509, rs7259620, -rs769449, and rs7256173), one in EGFR (rs6970262), and one in ACTB (rs852423) showed a significant association with AD (p < 0.05). Our results validate the reliability of genomic convergence and network analysis approach in identifying the AD-associated candidate genes.

Abstract
Introduction Inflammatory cytokines are proposed as modulators for the pathogenesis of anxiety and depression (anxiety/depression), and anxiety/depression are frequently existed in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) survivors. However, no published study has explored the association of inflammation cytokines with anxiety/depression in NSCLC survivors. Objectives We aimed to evaluate serum tumor necrosis factor‐α (TNF‐α), interleukin‐1 beta (IL‐1β), interleukin‐6 (IL‐6), interleukin‐17 (IL‐17) levels, and their correlations with anxiety/depression in NSCLC survivors. Methods Totally, 217 NSCLC survivors and 200 controls were recruited. Then, inflammatory cytokines in serum samples were detected by enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Besides, their anxiety/depression status was assessed by Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Results HADS‐anxiety score, anxiety rate, anxiety severity, HADS‐depression score, depression rate, and depression severity were all increased in NSCLC survivors compared with controls (all P < 0.001). Regarding inflammatory cytokines, TNF‐α, IL‐1β, and IL‐17 levels were higher (all P < 0.01), while IL‐6 (P = 0.105) level was of no difference in NSCLC survivors compared with controls. Furthermore, TNF‐α, IL‐1β, IL‐6, and IL‐17 were all positively associated with HADS‐A score (all P < 0.05), anxiety occurrence (all P < 0.05), HADS‐D score (all P < 0.05), and depression occurrence (all P < 0.05) in NSCLC survivors, while the correlation‐coefficients were weak. Additionally, multivariate logistic regression analyses disclosed that TNF‐α (both P < 0.05) and IL‐1β (both P < 0.001) were independently correlated with increased anxiety and depression risks in NSCLC survivors. Conclusion Serum TNF‐α, IL‐1β, IL‐6, and IL‐17 are related to increased anxiety and depression risks to some extent in NSCLC survivors.

Abstract
Identifying biomarkers of antidepressant response may advance personalized treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). We aimed to identify longitudinal changes in gene expression associated with response to antidepressants in a sample of MDD patients treated with escitalopram. Patients (N = 153) from the CAN-BIND-1 cohort were treated for 8 weeks, and depressive symptoms were assessed using the Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale at 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks. We identified three groups of patients according to response status: early responders (22.9%), later responders (32.0%), and nonresponders (45.1%). RNA sequencing was performed in blood obtained at weeks 0, 2, and 8. RNA expression was modeled using growth models, and differences in the longitudinal changes in expression according to response were investigated using multiple regression models. The expression of RNAs related to response was investigated in the brains of depressed individuals, as well as in neuronal cells in vitro. We identified four RNAs (CERCAM, DARS-AS1, FAM228B, HBEGF) whose change over time was independently associated with a response status. For all except HBEGF, responders showed higher expression over time, compared to nonresponders. While the change in all RNAs differentiated early responders from nonresponders, changes in DARS-AS1 and HBEGF also differentiated later responders from nonresponders. Additionally, HBEGF was downregulated in the brains of depressed individuals, and increased in response to escitalopram treatment in vitro. In conclusion, using longitudinal assessments of gene expression, we provide insights into biological processes involved in the intermediate stages of escitalopram response, highlighting several genes with potential utility as biomarkers of antidepressant response.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with lung cancer with greater systemic inflammation have higher rates of depression. Tumor mutation burden (TMB) predicts immunotherapy response in patients with lung cancer and is associated with intratumoral inflammation, which may contribute to systemic inflammation and depression. This study evaluated whether higher TMB was associated with increased depression and systemic inflammation in patients with lung cancer. PATIENTS AND METHODS Patients with metastatic lung cancers were evaluated for depression severity using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. TMB was measured using the Memorial Sloan Kettering-Integrated Mutation Profiling of Actionable Cancer Targets. Inflammation was evaluated using C-reactive protein (CRP) level and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR). RESULTS A total of 96 patients with adequate TMB testing were evaluated. The average number of mutations (TMB) was 10.8 (SD, 10.9). A total of 19% of patients endorsed clinically significant depression symptoms. TMB was significantly correlated with depression severity (r = 0.34; P=.001) and NLR (r = 0.37; P=.002) but not CRP level (r = 0.19; P=.07). TMB was also higher in patients receiving chemotherapy (mean, 12.0) and immunotherapy (mean, 14.4) versus targeted therapy (mean, 4.8). A multivariate model found that TMB (β = 0.30; P=.01) and CRP level (β = 0.31; P=.01) were independently associated with depression; there was no significant interaction effect of TMB × CRP and depression. A similar multivariate model showed no independent effect for NLR and depression (β = 0.16; P=.17) after accounting for TMB. CONCLUSIONS These data provide evidence for biologic depression risk in patients with lung cancer who have high levels of TMB. The underlying mechanism of the association is not clearly related to inflammation but warrants further analysis to broadly elucidate the mechanism of biologically derived depression in cancer.

Abstract
Background Curcumae Radix (CR), derived from the dry roots of Curcuma longa L., family Zingiberaceae, is widely used to treat depression. However, the ingredients and mechanisms of CR are still unclear. The purpose of this study was to solve this problem using network pharmacology and molecular docking. Methods The active ingredients of CR were screened through TCMSP, and the depression-related genes were obtained through the Genetic Association, GeneCards, and OMIM databases. Then, DisGeNET score was performed to evaluate the correlation between co-genes and depression. Topological analysis was conducted to screen hub genes and proteins, molecular docking was performed to evaluate the binding ability of the hub protein with active ingredients, and gene ontology (Go) function analysis, gene tissue localization, and KEGG pathway analysis were conducted to explore the function and location of genes, as well as the mechanism of CR for treating depression. Results Eight ingredients of CR were screened based on pharmacokinetic properties, five of which are closely related to depression, including (E)−5-hydroxy-7-(4-hydroxyphenyl)−1-phenyl-1-heptene, (E)−1,7-diphenyl-3-hydroxy-1-hepten-5-one, oxycurcumenol, β-sitosterol, and sitosterol. They interacted with 45 co-genes and co-proteins with a DisGeNET score ≥0.3. AR, NOS2, PTGS2, and TYK2 were pivot genes. EGFR, PTGS2, HSP90AA1, MAPK8, and ESR1 were hub proteins. PTGS2 was found to have good binding potential with oxycurcumenol, (E)−1,7-diphenyl-3-hydroxy-1-hepten-5-one and (E)−5-hydroxy-7-(4-hydroxyphenyl)−1-phenyl-1-heptene. Go functional analysis indicated that co-genes involved complex biological processes, cellular components and molecular functions. PER2, P2RX7, GRM1, TACR1, MAPK8, HCRTR1, EGFR, and TYK2 were highly expressed in the prefrontal cortex. The potential pathways for CR to exert antidepressant effects were calcium, estrogen, PI3K-Akt and ErbB signaling pathways. Conclusions This study revealed the ingredients, effective targets and mechanisms of CR in the treatment of depression, which provides a new perspective for the development of new antidepressants.

Abstract
Although immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) that target programmed cell death protein-1/programmed cell death ligand-1 axis have significantly shifted the treatment paradigm in advanced NSCLC, clinical benefits of these agents are limited in patients with EGFR-mutated NSCLC. Several predictive biomarkers (e.g., programmed cell death ligand-1 expression, tumor mutation burden), which have been validated in EGFR-wild type NSCLC, however, are not efficacious in EGFR-mutated tumors, suggesting the unique characteristics of tumor microenvironment of EGFR-mutated NSCLC. Here, we first summarized the clinical evidence on the efficacy of ICIs in patients with EGFR-mutated NSCLC. Then, the cancer immunogram features of EGFR-mutated NSCLC was depicted to visualize the state of cancer-immune system interactions, including tumor foreignness, tumor sensitivity to immune effectors, metabolism, general immune status, immune cell infiltration, cytokines, and soluble molecules. We further discussed the potential subpopulations with EGFR mutations that could benefit from ICI treatment. Lastly, we put forward future strategies to adequately maximize the efficacy of ICI treatment in patients with EGFR-mutated NSCLC in the upcoming era of combination immunotherapies.

Abstract
This study aimed to compare Zung self-rating anxiety/depression scale (SAS/SDS) and hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS) regarding the detection rate, detection consistency, and time of assessment in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients.Totally 290 NSCLC patients who underwent surgical resection were consecutively recruited and clinical data of patients were collected. Patients' anxiety and depression were assessed using HADS and SAS/SDS when they were discharged from hospital and consumption of the time for completing HADS and SAS/SDS was recorded.The anxiety detection rates by SAS (57.9%) and HADS-A (51.0%) were of no difference (P = .095). Also, there was no difference in anxiety severity detected by the 2 scales (P = .467). Additional correlation analysis revealed that both anxiety scores (r = 0.702, P < .001) and detected anxiety (Kappa = 0.626, P < .001) were consistent by SAS and HADS-A. Regarding depression, depression detection rate by SDS (47.6%) was higher than that of HADS-D (39.3%) (P = .044); the depression severity by SDS was more advanced than that by HADS-D (P = .002). The subsequent correlation analysis showed that both depression scores (r = 0.639, P < .001) and detected depression (Kappa = 0.624, P < .001) were consistent by SDS and HADS-D. In addition, the time for HADS assessment (7.6 ± 1.2 minutes) was shorter than SAS/SDS assessment (16.2 ± 2.1 minutes) (P < .001).HADS could be a better choice for assessing anxiety and depression in NSCLC patients, benefiting from its shorter assessment time but consistent detection rate compared with SAS/SDS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Development and spread of cancer is linked to the inflammatory response, in which cytokines serve a key role. The inflammatory response may also form the basis for symptoms of cancer. This systematic review examines the relationship between cytokines and symptoms in incurable cancer. METHODS MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, Web of Science and PsycINFO databases were searched for studies from January 2004 to January 2020. RESULTS Twenty studies were selected (n = 1806 patients, 119 controls). Symptoms studied included depression, fatigue, pain, and loss of appetite. Nine studies examined patients with a specified tumour type, the remainder included patients with a mix of tumour types. Thirty-one cytokines were examined; multiple associations between cytokines and symptoms were described, supporting the hypothesis that cytokines may have a key role in symptom generation. CONCLUSION Symptoms of incurable cancer are associated with circulating cytokines. Further study is required to characterise these relationships, and to explore their therapeutic potential.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dysregulated microRNAs (miRNAs) in dermal fibroblasts of depressive subjects, indicate biomarker potential and can possibly aid clinical diagnostics. To overcome methodological challenges related to human experiments and fibroblast cultures, we here validate 38 miRNAs previously observed to be dysregulated in human fibroblasts from depressed subjects, in the skin of four distinct rat models of depression. METHODS In the presented study male rats from the adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) model (n = 10/group), the chronic mild stress model (n = 10/group), Wistar Kyoto/Wistar Hannover rats (n = 10/group), and Flinders Resistant/Flinders Sensitive Line rats (n = 8/group) were included. Real-time qPCR was utilized to investigate miRNA alterations in flash-frozen skin-biopsies from the ear and fibroblast cultures. RESULTS In the ACTH rat model of depression, we identified nine dysregulated miRNAs in the skin and three in the fibroblasts. As the skin presented three times the amount of dysregulated miRNAs compared to the fibroblasts, skin instead of fibroblasts were continuously used for studies with the other rat models. In the skin from the four rat models of depression, 15 out of 38 miRNAs re-exhibited significant dysregulation in at least one of the rat models of depression and 67% were regulated in the same direction as in the human study. miR-450a and miR-193a presented dysregulation across rat models and miR-193a and miR-185 exhibited very strong dysregulation (30-fold and 50-fold, respectively). Lastly, an Ingenuity Pathway Analysis indicated functional overlap between dysregulated miRNAs, and common regulated pathways. CONCLUSION Flash-frozen skin is a valid alternative to fibroblast cultures as the skin appear to retain more of the miRNA dysregulation present in vivo. A sub-population of 15 miRNAs appear to be specific for the depressive phenotype, as they are dysregulated in both human depressed patients and distinct rat models of depression. We propose miR-450a, miR-185, and miR-193a as biomarker candidates of particular interest.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a serious stress-related disorder.
AIM To identify the key genes and pathways to uncover the potential mechanisms of PTSD using bioinformatics methods.
METHODS Gene expression profiles were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified by using GEO2R. Gene functional annotation and pathway enrichment were then conducted. The gene-pathway network was constructed with Cytoscape software. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) analysis was applied for validation, and text mining by Coremine Medical was used to confirm the connections among genes and pathways.
RESULTS We identified 973 DEGs including 358 upregulated genes and 615 downregulated genes in PTSD. A group of centrality hub genes and significantly enriched pathways (MAPK, Ras, and ErbB signaling pathways) were identified by using gene functional assignment and enrichment analyses. Six genes (KRAS, EGFR, NFKB1, FGF12, PRKCA, and RAF1) were selected to validate using qRT-PCR. The results of text mining further confirmed the correlation among hub genes and the enriched pathways. It indicated that these altered genes displayed functional roles in PTSD via these pathways, which might serve as key signatures in the pathogenesis of PTSD.
CONCLUSION The current study identified a panel of candidate genes and important pathways, which might help us deepen our understanding of the underlying mechanism of PTSD at the molecular level. However, further studies are warranted to discover the critical regulatory mechanism of these genes via relevant pathways in PTSD.

Abstract
Postoperative depression is a serious problem with under-optimized treatment. Our previous result demonstrated that single dose of propofol exposure in mice could cause depressive-like behavior. In the present study, we explored the possible preventive strategy that could ameliorate the depressive-like behavior in mice. Irisin was used for co-treatment with propofol in mice to test whether irisin could prevent the depressive-like behavior in mice. We found irisin could significantly reduce the immobility time in tail suspension and forced swimming tests in mice with propofol. We also found irisin was able to protect neurons against high concentration propofol treatment induced cell death in cultures. Meanwhile, irisin could significantly inhibit the increase of cytokines in astrocyte cultures exposed to propofol. These in vitro results suggested that interaction between astrocyte and neuron may be involved in the action mechanism that irisin prevented the mice from developing of depressive-like behavior. Last, we revealed that propofol caused increased surface expression of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) but irisin could reduce the expression level of EGFR on cell surface.

Abstract
ADAM10 (a disintegrin and metalloproteinase-10) is a known sheddase for EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor) ligands and has been suggested to modulate angiogenesis. We aimed to evaluate the expression of ADAM10 in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and to determine its correlation with EGFR, CD105 and clinicopathologic parameters. Fifty primary OSCCs with clinical data were graded according to the histologic risk assessment (HRA) model and subjected to immunohistochemical staining using antibodies against ADAM10, EGFR1 and CD105. ADAM10 was assessed in both epithelial and stromal components. The associations among all three proteins and clinicopathologic factors including tumor size, lymph node status and distant metastasis (TNM) were statistically analyzed (P < 0.05). Epithelial-ADAM10, stromal-ADAM10 and EGFR were overexpressed in 92%, 40% and 56% of the OSCCs, respectively. EGFR expression occurred in peripheral and diffuse patterns, which were also separately considered in our analyses. A significant correlation was found between ADAM10 and CD105 (r = -0.455; P < 0.001). Lymphocytic infiltration scores (P = 0.04) and tumor size (P = 0.001) showed significant differences between EGFR+ and EGFR- tumors, but none of the other variables had any relationships with either clinicopathologic factors or each other (P > 0.05). ADAM10 was upregulated in OSCC but had no correlation with survival-associated factors such as TNM or the HRA model. At the protein level, epithelial ADAM10 negatively regulated neoangiogenesis, but its interaction with EGFR was minimal. Reduction in host immunologic responses was associated with a decrease in EGFR. These findings, if corroborated, could be interesting in combination therapies used for cancer treatment.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Depression is highly prevalent in nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and is associated with elevated inflammation. However, certain subtypes of driver mutation-associated NSCLC such as epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-mutated NSCLC may be associated with less depression given the differences in their underlying biology and disease trajectories. Biological variables such as inflammation, measured by C-reactive protein (CRP), may provide insight into depression variability in EGFR mutant NSCLC. METHODS Patients with EGFR mutant and wild-type metastatic NSCLC were evaluated for depression using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) on a continuous scale and meeting depression screening criteria (HADS ≥ 8). Inflammation was measured using CRP. A mediation model was created to understand how inflammation mediates EGFR wild-type associated depression. RESULTS One hundred out of 120 patients with NSCLC were recruited (83.3% response rate). The 20 participants with EGFR mutant NSCLC had less depression (HADS-D 3.0 versus 5.4) (P < .001), met depression screening criteria less often (P = .047), and exhibited less inflammation (CRP = 0.23 mg/mL versus 2.71 mg/mL) (P < .001) in comparison with EGFR wild-type NSCLC. Multivariate linear regression model revealed that only CRP predicted depression (P = .015) while controlling for age and sex. Mediation analysis found that lower CRP partially mediated less depression in EGFR mutant NSCLC. CONCLUSIONS EGFR mutant NSCLC is associated with less depression but the relationship is partially mediated by lower CRP-related inflammation, which is a stronger predictor of depression than EGFR status. Depression in lung cancer varies by subtype and is significantly related to inflammation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Lung cancer carries a high prevalence of distress, anxiety and depression. New treatments, targeted therapy and immunotherapy have changed the disease course for subsets of patients and confer longer survival, but their psychological associations and possible mechanisms (e.g., inflammation and physical symptoms) are not well described. METHOD Patients with metastatic lung cancer undergoing systemic treatment (n = 109) were evaluated for distress, self-endorsed problems using the Distress Thermometer and Problem List, and depression and anxiety using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Demography, cancer-related information, and inflammation were evaluated for their associations with chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy. Inflammation was measured by C-reactive protein, albumin, and neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio. RESULTS Chemotherapies were given most often followed by immunotherapy and targeted therapies. Depression and anxiety were endorsed by 23.9%, respectively, and 41.1% had significant distress. Chemotherapy was associated with depression (p = .006) and inflammation (p < .001). Physical symptoms were the same among treatment types. Targeted therapy and immunotherapy predicted for less depression (p = .04, p = .04 respectively) than chemotherapy when controlling for age, sex, and performance status however these predictors where not significant when controlled for inflammation. CONCLUSION New immunotherapy and targeted therapies are associated with less depression and inflammation among patients who are living longer while their physical symptoms are the same.
