Antidiabetic activity of corn steep liquor extract of Curculigo pilosa and its solvent fractions in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats

Antidiabetic Activity, Phytochemical Analysis, and Acute Oral Toxicity Test of Combined Ethanolic Extract of Syzygium polyanthum and Muntingia calabura Leaves

Syzygium polyanthum is known for its capacity to regulate blood glucose levels in individuals with diabetes, while Muntingia calabura leaves have a traditional history as an alternative therapy due to their antidiabetic compounds. The combination of these two plants is expected to yield more optimized antidiabetic agents. This study aims to assess the antidiabetic activity of the combined ethanolic extract of S. polyanthum and M. calabura leaves by measuring the in vitro inhibition of the α-glucosidase enzyme and the blood glucose level in streptozotocin-induced rats and to determine the phytochemical contents of total phenolics, total flavonoids, and quercetine as marker compounds. Acute oral toxicity test was also evaluated. Both plants were extracted by maceration using 96% ethanol. Various combinations of S. polyanthum and M. calabura leaves extracts (1 : 1, 2 : 1, 3 : 1, 1 : 3, and 1 : 2) were prepared. The in vitro test, along with the total phenolic and total flavonoid content, were measured by using UV-Vis spectrophotometry, while quercetine levels were quantified through high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The in vivo and acute toxicity tests were performed on rats as an animal model. The findings demonstrated that the 1 : 1 combination of S. polyanthum and M. calabura leaves ethanolic extract displayed the highest enzyme inhibitory activity with IC50 value of 36.43 µg/mL. Moreover, the combination index (CI) was found <1 that indicates the synergism effect. This combination also decreases the blood glucose level in rats after 28 days of treatments without significant difference with positive control glibenclamide (p > 0.005), and it had medium lethal doses (LD50) higher than 2000 mg/kg BW. Phytochemical analysis showed that the levels of total phenolics, total flavonoids, and quercetine were 30.81% w/w, 1.37% w/w, and 3.25 mg/g, respectively. These findings suggest the potential of combined ethanolic extracts of S. polyanthum and M. calabura leaves (1 : 1) as raw materials for herbal antidiabetic medication.

Novel thiazolidin-4-one benzenesulfonamide hybrids as PPARγ agonists: Design, synthesis and in vivo anti-diabetic evaluation

In the current study, two series of novel thiazolidin-4-one benzenesulfonamide arylidene hybrids 9a-l and 10a-f were designed, synthesized and tested in vitro for their PPARɣ agonistic activity. The phenethyl thiazolidin-4-one sulphonamide 9l showed the highest PPARɣ activation % by 41.7%. Whereas, the 3-methoxy- and 4-methyl-4-benzyloxy thiazolidin-4-one sulphonamides 9i, and 9k revealed moderate PPARɣ activation % of 31.7, and 32.8%, respectively, in addition, the 3-methoxy-3-benzyloxy thiazolidin-4-one sulphonamide 10d showed PPARɣ activation % of 33.7% compared to pioglitazone. Compounds 9b, 9i, 9k, 9l, and 10d revealed higher selectivity to PPARɣ over the PPARδ, and PPARα isoforms. An immunohistochemical study was performed in HepG-2 cells to confirm the PPARɣ protein expression for the most active compounds. Compounds 9i, 9k, and 10d showed higher PPARɣ expression than that of pioglitazone. Pharmacological studies were also performed to determine the anti-diabetic activity in rats at a dose of 36 mg/kg, and it was revealed that compounds 9i and 10d improved insulin secretion as well as anti-diabetic effects. The 3-methoxy-4-benzyloxy thiazolidin-4-one sulphonamide 9i showed a better anti-diabetic activity than pioglitazone. Moreover, it showed a rise in blood insulin by 4-folds and C-peptide levels by 48.8%, as well as improved insulin sensitivity. Moreover, compound 9i improved diabetic complications as evidenced by decreasing liver serum enzymes, restoration of total protein and kidney functions. Besides, it combated oxidative stress status and exerted anti-hyperlipidemic effect. Compound 9i showed a superior activity by normalizing some parameters and amelioration of pancreatic, hepatic, and renal histopathological alterations caused by STZ-induction of diabetes. Molecular docking studies, molecular dynamic simulations, and protein ligand interaction analysis were also performed for the newly synthesized compounds to investigate their predicted binding pattern and energies in PPARɣ binding site.

Antidiabetic, antihyperlipidemic and protective effects of Gladiolus psittacinus on hyperglycemia-mediated oxidative stress in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats

OBJECTIVES

Gladiolus psittacinus (GP) is an important medicinal plant in folk medicine where its corm is used for treatment of diabetes mellitus. Despite this, there is paucity of scientific information to justify its use as antidiabetic drug. Hence, this study was designed to explore antidiabetic, antihyperlipidemic and effects of aqueous extract of Gladiolus psittacinus (AGP) on hyperglycemia-associated oxidative stress in pancreas, kidney and liver of diabetic rats.

METHODS

Diabetes mellitus (DM) was induced in rats using streptozotocin 50 mg/kg (i.p.). Normal and diabetic rats were treated orally with AGP once a day for 14 days. Antidiabetic effects were evaluated on body weight, fasting blood glucose concentration (FBGC), lipid profiles and serum chemistry. Also, protective effects of AGP were also determined on markers of oxidative stress, antioxidant enzymes and histopathology of pancreas, kidney and liver of diabetic rats.

RESULTS

Treatment with AGP emanated to significant decrease of FBGC (552.67-157.33 mg/dL), increase in body weight (100.01-133.76 g) and positive modulation of lipid parameters in diabetic rats. The alteration in the contents of markers of liver and kidney function were significantly modulated in the diabetic rats upon treatment. Also, oxidative damage and antioxidant depletions in pancreas, kidney and liver were significantly mitigated in treated diabetic rats. Structural aberrations in the histopathology slides of pancreas, kidney and liver were improved upon treatment.

CONCLUSIONS

It can be concluded that AGP could be used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus and its related ailments, thereby justifying its usage in traditional medicine.

Crude extract from Euphorbia prostrata extended curative period of glibenclemide in alloxan-induced diabetic rats

OBJECTIVES

Euphorbia prostrata is traditionally used alongside antidiabetic agents to manage diabetes. Bioactive ingredients of medicinal herbs may alter the overall pharmacokinetics of antidiabetic agents.

METHODS

We assessed hypoglycemic activities of ethanolic plant extract (EPE) singly and its effects on antidiabetic properties of gliclazide, glibenclemide and metformin in allaxonized rats. Varying concentrations of EPE (250 and 500 mg/kg) with or without metformin (10 mg/kg), glibenclemide (2 mg/kg) and gliclazide (5 mg/kg) were orally administered to evaluate herb-drug interaction.

RESULTS

The levels of blood glucose declined significantly after treatment with metformin, glibenclemide and gliclazide singly (p<0.01) or concomitantly with EPE (p<0.001). Concentration dependent mild to moderate reduction (5.2 and 10.0%) was registered in blood glucose for 250 and 500 mg/kg of EPE respectively. The overall reduction in blood glucose due to combined treatment with EPE and standard agents was additive. On the other hand, synergistic herb-drug interaction was registered for insulin levels in rats that received glibenclamide and gliclazide alongside EPE. Extract with metformin had antagonistic insulin outcome. Regarding the duration of hypoglycemic activities, periodical changes were similar in case of glibenclamide and gliclazide separately or in combination with EPE. However, in case of metformin with extract, the blood glucose continued to decline for 14 h and retained at 15.0% below the baseline values even after 24 h of treatment.

CONCLUSIONS

In conclusion, the extract itself had weak hypoglycemic effects but prolonged the therapeutic duration of metformin to more than 24 h when administered combinedly.

Increased therapeutic effect of nanotized silibinin against glycation and diabetes: An in vitro and in silico-based approach

BACKGROUND

The global prevalence of diabetes has increased sharply, with the number of cases expected to rise from 424.9 million in 2017 to 628.6 million by 2045. Flavonoids are plant derived molecules with well-established antioxidant potential in addition to other therapeutic properties. Silibinin is a naturally occurring flavonoid with antioxidant and antidiabetic properties. However, its rapid metabolism and low bioavailability limit its therapeutic effects.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

In this study, we have synthesized the nanoformulation of silibinin and compared its antiglycating and antidiabetic potential with the soluble form.

METHODOLOGY

The inhibitory effect was tested on carbohydrate-hydrolyzing enzymes as well as glycation of human serum albumin (HSA). The structural and biochemical changes in HSA were assessed by spectroscopic analyses and different assays.

KEY FINDINGS

The nanoforms were found to be better inhibitors of α-amylase and α-glucosidase compared to the bulk forms. Glycation of HSA in the presence of nano-silibinin resulted in the formation of lower level of early and advanced glycation products. This was also confirmed by spectroscopic studies and by estimating protein oxidation and free lysine residues. Molecular docking studies further supported the experimental outcomes. These results indicate that the nano form has significantly stronger antidiabetic and antiglycating effects than the bulk form. Nano-silibinin could therefore be recommended as a dietary supplement for diabetics to help control glycation and other associated complications.

Effects of preharvest factors on antidiabetic potential of some foods and herbal plants

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder with no definite treatment, but it can be controlled by changing lifestyle and diet. Consumption of high-fiber and nutrient-rich foods including vegetables have been shown to reduce risks of obesity and Type II Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Also, many herbal plants have been associated with reduced risks of T2DM because of their composition of secondary metabolites. Antioxidant activities of some secondary metabolites have potent inhibitory effects against inflammation linked with insulin resistance and oxidative stress. More than 800 known medicinal plants are used to control diabetes and its relevant complications. However, variations in preharvest factors including plant genotype, growing medium properties, climatic factors, and management practices can influence plant growth and their accumulation of phytochemicals with health-promoting properties. However, the effects of these preharvest factors on the antidiabetic properties of plant secondary metabolites are neither explicit nor easily accessible in the literature. Therefore, this review aims to document recent studies that reported on under-exploited medicinal plants with antidiabetic properties. We reviewed several important preharvest factors that can potentially affect the synthesis of phytoconstituents which possess antidiabetic properties. This review will help identify gaps for future research in phytomedicine and functional foods.

Onopordum acanthium L. extract attenuates pancreatic β-Cells and cardiac inflammation in streptozocin-induced diabetic rats

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE

Methanolic extract from Onopordum acanthium L. leaves (MEOAL) has been discovered to treat diabetic complications. The objective of this study is to evaluate the ameliorative role of MEOAL on pancreatic islet injury and myocardial inflammation in diabetic rats.

METHODS

Forty male Wister albino rats were allocated into five groups of eight rats each. Group A was the negative control group. Single intraperitoneal injection of streptozocin (50mg/kg) were used for the four experimental groups. Group B served as the positive control group. The rats in Groups C, D, and E received glibenclamide (5mg/kg), MEOAL (200, and 400 mg/kg) respectively, for eight weeks. Group C served as the standard drug group. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate (DPPH) assays for antioxidant activity were conducted in MEOAL. In silico study, calculation of molecular binding energy (DG), and inhibition constant (pKi) of bioactive constituents in MEOAL were performed.

RESULTS

Administration of MEOAL significantly increases insulin content in β-cells with a marked enhancement of pancreatic islet structure, resulting in a significant reduction of blood glucose level and body weight loss. MEOAL treatment suppressed the increase of inflammatory cell score in myocardial tissue with an elevation of M2 -like macrophage. The phytochemical studies recorded the presence of six polyphenols, including catechin, kaempferol, syringic acid, p-coumaric acid, epicatechin and gallic acid in MEOAL. Moreover, the antioxidant activity of the extract was greater than that of standard ascorbic acid. The docking studies of the ligands Catechin, kaempferol and epicatechin with proteins showed high affinities with various targets related in β-Cells and cardiac inflammation.

CONCLUSIONS

The attenuation of pancreatic β-Cells damage and cardiac inflammation by MEOAL could be attributed to the presence of Catechin, kaempferol and epicatechin which have high affinities with the receptors namely pancreatic alpha-amylase, glucokinase, COX-2, and COX-1.

Luteolin-Rich Extract of Thespesia garckeana F. Hoffm. (Snot Apple) Contains Potential Drug-Like Candidates and Modulates Glycemic and Oxidoinflammatory Aberrations in Experimental Animals

The present study evaluated the polyphenolic contents and hypoglycemic, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects of the diethyl ether fraction of Thespesia garckeana using various in vitro and in vivo models. Total phenol and flavonoid contents of the extract were $613.65\pm 2.38$ and $152.83\pm 1.56$  mg/100 g dry weight, respectively. The extract exhibited in vitro antioxidant activities against DPPH, FRAP, LPO, and ABTS with respective half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values of $30.91\pm 0.23$ , $16.81\pm 0.51$ , $41.29\pm 1.82$ , and $42.39\pm 2.24$  μg/mL. In vitro anti-inflammatory studies using membrane stabilization, protein denaturation, and proteinase activities revealed the effectiveness of the extract with respective IC50 values of $54.45\pm 2.89$ , $93.62\pm 3.04$ , and $56.60\pm 2.34$  μg/mL, while in vitro hypoglycemic analysis of the extract revealed inhibition of α-amylase (IC50 $64.59\pm 3.29$  μg/mL) and enhancement of glucose uptake by yeast cells. Interestingly, the extract demonstrated in vivo hypoglycemic and anti-inflammatory effects in streptozotocin- (STZ-) induced diabetic and xylene-induced ear swelling models, respectively. In addition, the extract improved insulin secretion, attenuated pancreatic tissue distortion and oxidative stress, and increased the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, and reduced glutathione (GSH), while reducing the concentration of LPO in the diabetic rats. A high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis identified the presence of catechin ( $6.81e-1$  ppm), rutin ( $8.46e-1$  ppm), myricetin, apigenin ( $4.019e-1$  ppm), and luteolin (15.09 ppm) with respective retention times (RTs) of 13.64, 24.269, 27.781, 29.58, and 32.23 min, and these were subjected to a pharmacoinformatics analysis, which revealed their drug-likeness and good pharmacokinetic properties. A docking analysis hinted at the potential of luteolin, the most abundant compound in the extract, for targeting glucose-metabolizing enzymes. Thus, the present study provides preclinical insights into the bioactive constituents of T. garckeana, its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, and its potential for the treatment of diabetes.

Terminalia catappa aqueous leaf extract reverses insulin resistance, improves glucose transport and activates PI3K/AKT signalling in high fat/streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats

Rising prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in sub-Saharan Africa has necessitated surveys of antidiabetic medicinal plants. This study assessed the antidiabetic mechanism of Terminalia catappa aqueous leaf extract (TCA) in high fat/low dose streptozotocin-induced type 2 diabetic rats. T2DM was induced by a combination of high-fat diet and low dose STZ (30 mg/kg bw) and the animals were administered with TCA (400 and 800 mg/kg bw) orally daily for 28 days. Biochemical parameters and indices for diabetes including renal function tests and pancreatic histology were evaluated. Relative expression of hepatic insulin resistance, signalling and glucose transport genes were also assessed. Induction of T2DM resulted in significant (p < 0.05) weight loss, dysregulated glucose level and clearance, electrolyte imbalance and disrupted diabetic biochemical parameters. Diabetes onset also perturbed β-cell function and insulin resistance indices, damaged pancreas microanatomy, while disrupting the expression of insulin receptor substrate 1 (IRS-1), phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K), protein kinase B (AKT) and glucose transporter isoform 4 (GLUT-4) mRNA. Oral treatment of diabetic animals with TCA significantly (p < 0.05) ameliorated alterations due to T2DM induction in a manner comparable with glibenclamide. These results suggest TCA exerts its antidiabetic action by reversing insulin resistance, improving glucose transport and activating PI3K/AKT signalling.

Chlorophytum alismifolium mitigates microvascular complications of type 2 diabetes mellitus: the involvement of oxidative stress and aldose reductase

OBJECTIVES

Chlorophytum alismifolium (C. alismifolium) tubers are used in the management of diabetes. This research evaluated the effect of ethylacetate extract of C. alismifolium (EACA) on microvascular complications and the possible association of oxidative stress and aldose reductase in type 2 diabetic rats.

METHODS

C. alismifolium tubers were subjected to sequential extraction until ethylacetate extract was obtained using a soxhlet apparatus. The LD₅₀ was determined using the OECD 425 guideline. The animals were placed on high fat diet for 42 days and then induced with hyperglycaemia using 40 mg/kg of streptozotocin. Diabetic neuropathy was evaluated using thermal and mechanical methods. Serum was used for the assessment of oxidative stress markers and biochemical markers of retinopathy and nephropathy. Serum aldose reductase was investigated by utilizing the principle of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.

RESULTS

The median lethal dose of EACA was assessed to be above 5,000 mg/kg and it caused no mortality. Treatment with EACA significantly reduced the withdrawal times in both thermal and mechanical hyperalgesic methods (p<0.05). EACA also significantly reduced the levels of urea (p<0.001), albumin (p<0.05) and uric acid (p<0.001) in hyperglycaemic rats. EACA significantly decreased the amounts of low density lipoprotein and triglycerides (p<0.001). There was a remarkable elevation in the levels of high density lipoprotein (p<0.05). A significant (p<0.05) increase in the levels of magnesium was observed in the EACA-treated groups. EACA significantly increased catalase (p<0.05) and reduced malondialdehyde levels (p<0.05). The levels of aldose reductase was significantly (p<0.001) reduced by EACA compared to the hyperglycaemic control.

CONCLUSIONS

The ethylacetate extract of C. alismifolium has beneficial effects in alleviating microvascular complications of diabetes through the inhibition of oxidative stress and aldose reductase in diabetic rats.

Antidiabetic and antihyperlipidemic effects of aqueous extract of Parquetina nigrescens in streptozotocin-nicotinamide induced type 2 diabetic rats

Background

Parquetina nigrescens is among the evergreen plants native to West Africa. It is used in the management of various ailments including anemia, fever, asthma and diabetes. This study evaluated the antidiabetic and antihyperlipidemic effect of Parquetina nigrescens in streptozotocin-nicotinamide-induced type 2 diabetic rats.

Methods

Type 2 diabetes mellitus was induced in overnight fasted rats with a single intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (60 mg/kg), followed by the administration of nicotinamide (120 mg/kg) after an interval of 15 min. Diabetic rats were orally administered with; 200, 400 and 800 mg/kg of aqueous extract of Parquetina nigrescens (AEPN), metformin (180 mg/kg) and glibenclamide (1 mg/kg) for two weeks. The effect of treatments on fasting blood glucose, serum insulin, leptin, adiponectin, homa-ir, lipid profile, body weight, pancreatic antioxidants parameters, hepatic glycogen content, glucose-6-phosphate activity, α-amylase inhibition, α-glucosidase inhibition, lipase inhibition and histology of the organs were evaluated.

Results

Data from this study showed that treatment with AEPN produced a significant reduction (p < 0.05) in fasting blood glucose, glucose-6-phosphatase activity, serum lipase, total triglyceride, total cholesterol, low-density lipoproteins, very low-density lipoprotein, atherogenic index, coronary risk index, pancreatic α-amylase, α-glucosidase and lipase activities. Treatment with AEPN also produced a significant (p < 0.05) increase in; glucose tolerance, glycogen content, leptin, adiponectin and pancreatic antioxidants (glutathione, superoxide dismutase, catalase and high-density lipoproteins). The histology of the organ showed regeneration of the pancreatic tissue after treatment with AEPN.

Conclusions

This study showed that AEPN exhibited antidiabetic and antihyperlipidemic activity in streptozotocin-nicotinamide-induced type 2 diabetic rats.

Phytochemistry and Pharmacological Activity of Plants of Genus Curculigo: An Updated Review Since 2013

The genus Curculigo, as a folk herbal medicine, has been used for many years in China, treating impotence, limb limpness, and arthritis of the lumbar and knee joints. The last systematic review of the genus Curculigo was written in 2013, scientifically categorizing the phytochemistry and biological activities. Hitherto, the original compounds and their pharmacological activities were presented as the development of this genus, but there is not an updated review. To conclude the progression of the genus Curculigo, we collected the new literature published from 2013 to 2021 in PubMed, Web of Science, Google Scholar databases, and the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure. The novel chlorophenolic glucosides, curculigine, phenolic glycosides, orcinosides and polysaccharides were isolated from Curculigo. The new analyzing methods were established to control the quality of Curculigo as a herbal medicine. In addition, the pharmacological effects of Curculigo focused on anti-diabetes, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, osteoporosis, antioxidation, etc. The antitumor and neuroprotective activities were newly explored in recent years. The application of herbal medicine was gradually developed in scientific methods. The medicinal value of the genus Curculigo needs to further investigate its pharmacological mechanisms. This new review offers more insights into the exploitation of the pharmacological value of the genus Curculigo.

Antihyperlipidemic and antioxidant properties of hydro-alcoholic extracts from Anogeissus leiocarpus (Combretaceae)

Anogeissus leiocarpus (Combretaceae) is a medicinal plant used in Togo to treat diabetes mellitus and others diseases. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the antihyperlipidemic and antioxidant activities of total extract and fractions of roots of Anogeissus leiocarpus.

The antihyperlipidemic activity of the total extract and the supernatant was performed in vivo by the fructose overload test in ICR mice. Antioxidant potential was determined in vitro by methods based on scavenging of DPPH∗, total antioxidant capacity and reducing power. After the screening, phenolic compounds and flavonoids were evaluated by the well–known colorimetric assay using respectively Folin–Ciocalteu reagent and aluminium chloride.

The results obtained showed that the total extract and the supernatant significantly reduced the serum and liver levels of triglycerides and hence the level of VLDL-Cholesterol compared to hyperlipidemic mice. In vitro the total extract and fractions had the ability to scavenge free radicals, to reduce metal and possessed strong total antioxidant activity. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of polyphenols, flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins and saponosides in the extract and fractions. And the supernatant fraction contained more polyphenolic compounds than others.

From this study, it is concluded that the total extract and fraction of Anogeissus leiocarpus possessed strong antihyperlipidemic, antioxidant properties and were riched in polyphenols, which can be used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus’ complications. Effect of Curculigo pilosa supplemented diet on blood sugar, lipid metabolism, hepatic oxidative stress and carbohydrate metabolism enzymes in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats

BACKGROUND

Diabetes mellitus (DM) has continued to raise concern globally and Curculigo pilosa (CP) is used for its treatment and management in folkloric medicine. In this study, the in vitro antioxidant abilities of CP and the effects of CP-supplemented diets on blood sugar, lipid metabolism, oxidative stress and key carbohydrate metabolizing enzymes in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats were investigated.

METHODS

Polyphenol contents (total phenolic and total flavonoid) and antioxidant ability of different extracts of CP were determined in vitro. Diabetes mellitus were stimulated in healthy rats by single intraperitoneal administration of 50 mg/kg streptozotocin and it was confirmed by elevated blood glucose level after 3 days. Thirty six rats were distributed into six groups of six rats each and diabetic rats were fed with 5 and 10% CP-supplemented diet for 21 days. Thereafter, the effects of the dietary regimen were evaluated on blood glucose, body weight, hepatic carbohydrate metabolizing enzymes, lipid profile, oxidative stress markers, serum markers of hepatic and renal damages and histopathology studies.

RESULTS

Different extracts of CP contained polyphenol contents and exhibited antioxidant properties in different models used. Diabetic rats showed elevated level of blood glucose and body weight loss. Treatment of diabetic rats with CP-supplemented diet significantly (p < 0.05) lowered the blood glucose and improved body weight loss. Also, the treatment with the CP-supplemented diet significantly (p < 0.05) enhanced the activities of hepatic glycolytic (hexokinase and glucose-6-dehydrogenase) and lowered the gluconeogenic (fructose 1, 6 biphosphatase and glucose-6-phosphatase) enzymes in diabetic rats. The lipid profile, oxidative stress markers and serum markers of hepatic and renal damages were significantly (p < 0.05) restored to near normalcy in the diabetic rats. Histopathological slides also showed improvements in pancreas and hepatic tissues of diabetic rats treated with CP-supplemented diet.

CONCLUSION

Data obtained in this study suggested that CP-supplemented diet could be used as dietary regimen in the management of DM.
