Abstract
BACKGROUND To quantify conjunctival microvascular characteristics obtained by optical coherence tomographic angiography (OCTA) and investigate their relationship with the presence and severity of coronary artery disease (CAD). METHODS This cross-sectional study included 103 consecutive CAD patients confirmed by coronary angiography and 125 non-CAD controls. The temporal conjunctivas along the limbus of each participant were scanned using OCTA. Quantification of conjunctival microvasculature was performed by AngioTool software. The severity of the disease was evaluated using SYNTAX and Gensini scores. RESULTS Compared to the controls, the CAD group exhibited significantly lower vessel area density (30.22 ± 3.34 vs. 26.70 ± 4.43 %, p < 0.001), lower vessel length density (6.39 ± 0.77 vs. 5.71 ± 0.89/m, p < 0.001), lower junction density (3.44 ± 0.56 vs. 3.05 ± 0.63/m, p < 0.001), and higher lacunarity (0.11 ± 0.03 vs. 0.14 ± 0.05, p < 0.001). Among all participants, lower vessel area density, lower vessel length density, lower junction density, and higher lacunarity were associated with greater odds of having CAD; the adjusted ORs (95 % confidence intervals) per one SD decrease were 2.71 (1.71, 4.29), 2.51(1.61, 3.90), 2.06 (1.39, 3.05), and 0.36 (0.23, 0.58), respectively. Among CAD patients, junction density was negatively associated with the Gensini score (r = -0.359, p = 0.037) and the Syntax score (r = -0.350, p = 0.042) in women but not in men (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Conjunctival microvascular characteristics were significantly associated with the presence of CAD. Junction density significantly associated with the severity of CAD among women patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Thermal ablation and conventional thyroidectomy are effective therapeutic methods for treating benign thyroid nodules (BTNs), but the psychological impacts of these methods in BTN patients are largely unknown. MATERIALS AND METHODS This survey study prospectively enrolled patients who were admitted to our hospital between July 2021 and July 2022. The four validated scales were applied to quantify psychological distress and sleep quality at five points (the day admitted to the hospital, the day discharged from the hospital, and 1, 3, and 6 months after treatment). Participants who were diagnosed with BTNs and completed the questionnaires were ultimately enrolled and divided into thermal ablation and conventional thyroidectomy groups. A propensity score matching (PSM) cohort was subsequently developed to evaluate longitudinal and cross-sectional changes in psychological-related indicators. RESULTS Among 548 eligible BTN patients, 460 patients completed all the questionnaires throughout the follow-up (response rate: 83.94%), including 368 (80.00%) patients who underwent thermal ablation and 92 (20.00%) patients who underwent conventional thyroidectomy. After PSM, a total of 342 patients were enrolled (256 patients underwent thermal ablation, and 86 patients underwent conventional thyroidectomy). The psychological-related indicators of patients in the thermal ablation group remained relatively stable during the 6-month follow-up, but patients in the conventional thyroidectomy group may have experienced greater anxiety and sleep quality concerns in the longitudinal assessment. Additionally, in the cross-sectional evaluation, the sleep quality of the thermal ablation group was also better than that of the conventional thyroidectomy group postoperatively. CONCLUSIONS Thermal ablation is superior to conventional thyroidectomy for BTN patients in terms of psychological-related indicators.

Abstract
Thyroid nodule (TN) has been becoming a great concern worldwide due to its high incidence. Although some studies have reported associations between trace elements exposure and the risk of TNs, the linkage was not inconclusive. The present study aimed to identify the association of selected serum trace elements (Ca, Mg, V, Fe, Co, Cu, Zn, Se, Mn and Mo) with TNs among general adults. A cross-sectional study was conducted in January 2021 in Chengdu, China. 1282 subjects completed the questionnaire and gave at least one human biological material after an overnight fast, venous blood, and urine, including 377 TN participants defined through ultrasound. Various trace elements in serum specimens were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Thyroid functions were tested by chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay (CMIA). The associations between trace elements levels and the risk of TNs were examined by restricted cubic splines (RCS) regression and bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) models. TNs were more common in females (P < 0.001) and in the elderly (P < 0.001) and that they were also frequently associated with fertility, marital status, annual household income, drinking, anxiety, vitamin supplement, tea consumption, hypertension and hyperlipidemia. After adjusting for confounders by a propensity score matching model, the association between trace elements concentrations and TNs risk was found to be statistically insignificant in the RCS (P for nonlinear > 0.05) and BKMR models. FT3 or T4 (total or free) increased significantly with increasing total trace elements mixture levels. In TI-RADS-4 TN subjects, TPO-Ab level increased significantly with increasing total trace elements mixture levels in the high-dose range. Ca, Zn, Mo at their 75th percentile showed positive individual effects on TPO-Ab, which was examined to be interactive. The detection of trace elements for TNs in general adults may be of no significance, but once individuals classified as TI-RADS-4 TNs are detected with abnormal TPO-Ab, Ca, Zn and Mo level are recommended to measure. The substantive association on it still needs to be continuously explored in the future.

Abstract
Importance Previous evidence suggests that maternal hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection during prepregnancy or pregnancy is associated with congenital heart diseases (CHDs) in offspring. However, the association of paternal HBV infection with CHDs is not well examined. Objective To explore the association of paternal preconception HBV infection with CHDs in offspring. Design, Setting, and Participants This retrospective cohort study used propensity score matching of data from the Chinese National Free Preconception Checkup Project (NFPCP) from January 1, 2010, to December 31, 2018. Male participants whose wives were aged 20 to 49 years, were uninfected with HBV, and successfully conceived within 1 year after prepregnancy examination were enrolled. Data were analyzed from March 2023 to February 2024. Exposures The primary exposure was paternal preconception HBV infection status, including uninfected, previous infection (both serum hepatitis B surface antigen and hepatitis B envelope antigen negative), and new infection (serum hepatitis B surface antigen positive). Maternal HBV immune status was further classified as immune or susceptible. Main Outcomes and Measures The main outcome was CHDs, which were collected from the birth defect registration card of the NFPCP. Logistic regression with robust error variances was used to estimate the association between paternal preconception HBV infection and CHDs in offspring. Results A total of 6 675 540 couples participated in the NFPCP service. After matching husbands with and without preconception HBV infection in a 1:4 ratio, 3 047 924 couples (median age of husbands, 27 years [IQR, 25-30 years]) were included in this study. Of these couples, 0.025% had offspring with CHDs. Previous paternal HBV infection was independently associated with CHDs in offspring (adjusted relative risk [ARR], 1.40; 95% CI, 1.11-1.76) compared with no infection. Similar results were obtained in subgroup analyses according to maternal HBV immune status. Compared with couples with uninfected husbands and susceptible wives, the risk of CHDs in offspring among couples with previously HBV-infected husbands was similar in couples with wives with susceptible immune status (ARR, 1.49; 95% CI, 1.10-2.03) and in those with wives with immunity (ARR, 1.49; 95%CI, 1.07-2.09). A significantly higher CHD risk in offspring was found among couples with newly infected husbands and immune wives (ARR, 1.38; 95% CI, 1.05-1.82), but there was no difference in risk among those with newly infected husbands and susceptible wives (ARR, 0.99; 95% CI, 0.72-1.36). No interactions were found between maternal immune status and paternal HBV infection. Conclusions and Relevance In this cohort study using propensity score matching, previous paternal preconception HBV infection was associated with CHD risk in offspring. The findings suggest that personalized reproductive guidance regarding HBV screening and staying free of HBV infection should be provided for both wives and husbands.

Abstract
Purpose This study aims to investigate the correlation between a novel integrated inflammatory marker: The inflammation-combined prognostic index (ICPI), combining NLR, PLR, and MLR, with the clinicopathological characteristics and overall survival (OS) of gastric cancer (GC). Patients and Methods Data from 876 patients with GC were retrospectively analyzed from January 1, 2017, to April 30, 2023. PSM was employed to mitigate confounding factors between groups. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were utilized to determine the optimal cutoff value. Univariate, LASSO, and multivariate regression analyses were executed. Subsequently, a nomogram for predicting OS was developed and validated. Results The cohort with a poor prognosis exhibited significantly elevated levels of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), and ICPI (P<0.001). Similarly, higher levels of NLR, PLR, MLR, and ICPI were associated with a poorer prognosis (P<0.001). Following regression analysis, ICPI, T-stage, lymph node ratio (LNR), and primary site were identified as independent risk factors affecting OS. A nomogram was constructed based on these factors to predict 1-, 3-, and 5-year OS, yielding C-indexes of 0.8 and 0.743 for the training and validation sets, respectively. The calibration curves demonstrated close alignment between predicted and actual results, indicating high predictive accuracy. Moreover, the decision curve underscored the practical utility of the model. Conclusion The new inflammatory parameter ICPI integrates NLR, PLR and MLR. The ICPI-based nomogram and web calculator accurately predict OS in patients with GC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Changes in the expression of genes related to glycosyltransferases may lead to alterations in N-glycan structure abundance, potentially acting as markers for diagnosis and prognosis in biliary tract cancer (BTC). METHODS This study was divided into cross-sectional and longitudinal approaches. The cross-sectional study included 316 BTC and 301 non-BTC. Propensity score matching was applied to adjust for sex and age differences between BTC and non-BTC. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression identified independent risk factors for BTC and constructed the BTC-G model. The ROC curve was used to validate the diagnostic performance of BTC-G. Longitudinal follow-up studies included postoperative (N = 50) and immunotherapy (N = 43) follow-up cohorts. Cox regression analysis identified N-glycan structures impacting BTC prognosis postoperative and immunotherapy, with further confirmation through Kaplan-Meier curves. RESULTS Univariate and multivariate analyses identified Peak3 (OR: 0.790, 95% CI: 0.658-0.949), Peak9 (OR: 1.646, 95% CI: 1.409-1.922), and Peak9p (OR: 2.467, 95% CI: 1.267-4.804) as independent BTC risk factors, leading to the creation of the BTC-G. The ROC curve confirmed that BTC-G performed well in training (AUC: 0.753, 95% CI: 0.703-0.799), validation (AUC: 0.811, 95% CI: 0.740-0.870), and CA19-9 negative cohorts (AUC: 0.717, 95% CI: 0.664-0.767). Cox regression analysis and Kaplan-Meier curves established that Peak12 (HR: 5.578, 95% CI: 1.145-27.170) and Peak11 (HR: 1.104, 95% CI: 0.611-1.994) are independent risk factors for BTC prognosis following surgery and immunotherapy, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Our NGFP technology supplements BTC diagnostics, distinguishing survival and recurrence subtypes for postoperative and immunotherapy, thereby supporting the development of treatment strategies.

Abstract
Background The utilization of in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF/ICSI) has witnessed a significant increase in recent years. However, the comparative perinatal and neonatal outcomes compared to natural pregnancies are unclear. This study aims to compare the outcomes of pregnancies from IVF and ICSI with natural pregnancies. Methods This retrospective, propensity score-matched cohort study was conducted at the First People's Hospital of Shangqiu and The First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University, involving 5,628 patients from February 2019 to December 2022. It compared pregnancies achieved through IVF/ICSI with those conceived naturally. The primary outcomes assessed were perinatal complications and neonatal health parameters. Propensity score matching and multivariate logistic regression analysis were employed to adjust for potential confounders and identify independent associations. Results After propensity score matching, the IVF/ICSI group demonstrated significantly higher rates of placental adherence (12.1% vs. 7.4%, p < 0.001) and postpartum hemorrhage (11.1% vs. 7.6%, p = 0.002) compared to the NP group. Neonates in the IVF/ICSI group had a lower gestational age (38.21 ± 2.12 weeks vs. 38.63 ± 2.29 weeks, p < 0.001), reduced birth weight (3159.42 ± 722.75 g vs. 3211.31 ± 624.42 g, p = 0.032), and an increased preterm delivery rate (11.2% vs. 8.9%, p = 0.017). Multivariate analysis further confirmed these findings, highlighting the independent associations between IVF/ICSI and these adverse outcomes. Conclusion This study suggests a potential correlation between the use of IVF/ICSI and unfavorable perinatal and neonatal outcomes. These findings underscore the critical need for ongoing monitoring and research efforts to enhance the safety and effectiveness of these reproductive technologies.

Abstract
Purpose Postoperative urinary tract infections (UTIs) worsen the prognosis of elderly patients with hip fractures. This study aimed to assess the predictive ability of blood-based biomarkers, specifically the glucose-albumin ratio (GAR), in predicting postoperative UTIs. Methods A retrospective observational study of 1,231 patients from a Level I trauma center was conducted. We evaluated the prognostic and predictive value of 15 biomarkers, including the glucose-albumin ratio, in elderly patients with hip fractures. The primary outcome measure was the incidence of postoperative UTIs. Results The glucose to albumin ratio transformed into GAR was superior to any other biomarker in predicting postoperative UTIs in elderly hip fracture patients (AUC = 0.756, p < 0.001). Elevated GAR (using the best cut-off value of 0.18) was independently associated with postoperative UTIs (OR 3.20, 95% CI 2.23-4.58). Further analysis dividing GAR levels into four groups according to quartiles showed that compared to patients with GAR levels of Q1 (< 0.14), GAR levels of Q2 (0.14-0.17; OR 2.11, 95% CI 1.07-4.15), Q3 (0.17-0.21; OR 3.36, 95% CI 1.74-6.52) and Q4 (> 0.21; OR 7.55, 95% CI 3.84-14.83) patients had significantly higher odds of UTIs. Conclusion GAR holds potential as a novel biomarker for predicting postoperative UTIs in elderly patients with hip fractures.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the implications of Lobectomy (LT) or total thyroidectomy (TT) on psychological distress and sleep quality in PTC patients with a low to intermediate risk of recurrence and tumors measuring 1 to 4 cm. METHODS Patients who were admitted to our hospital between July 2021 and July 2022 were prospectively enrolled in this survey. Psychological distress and sleep quality were assessed at hospitalization, discharge, and 1, 3, and 6 months post-treatment using validated scales. Participants were divided into LT and TT groups, with propensity score matching (PSM) applied for analyses. RESULTS Among 525 eligible PTC patients, 440 patients completed all the questionnaires throughout the follow-up. After PSM, 166 patients underwent LT, and 166 patients underwent TT were enrolled. The psychological distress and sleep quality of patients in the LT group remained relatively stable during the 6-month follow-up, but patients in the TT group may have faced greater sleep quality concerns in the longitudinal assessment. Additionally, the sleep quality of the TT group was also worse than that of the LT group postoperatively. CONCLUSIONS The sleep quality rather than other psychological distress of patients with PTC with a low to intermediate risk of recurrence is associated with the extent of surgery.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rest tremor is a movement disorder commonly found in diseases like Parkinson's disease (PD) and essential tremor (ET). Rest tremor typically shows slower progression in PD, but more severe progression in ET. However, the underlying white matter organization of rest tremor behind PD and ET remains unclear. METHODS This study included 57 ET patients (40 without rest tremor (ETWR), 17 with rest tremor (ETRT)), 68 PD patients (34 without rest tremor (PDWR), 34 with rest tremor (PDRT)), and 62 normal controls (NC). Fixel-based analysis was used to evaluate the structural changes of white matter in rest tremor in these different diseases. RESULTS The fiber-bundle cross-section (FC) of the right non-decussating dentato-rubro-thalamic tract and several fibers outside the dentato-rubro-thalamic pathway in ETWR were significantly higher than that in NC. The fiber density and cross-section of the left nigro-pallidal in PDWR is significantly lower than that in NC, while the FC of bilateral nigro-pallidal in PDRT is significantly lower than that in NC. CONCLUSION ET patients with pure action tremor showed over-activation of fiber tracts. However, when superimposed with rest tremor, ET patients no longer exhibited over-activation of fiber tracts, but rather showed a trend of fiber tract damage. Except for the nigro-pallidal degeneration in all PD, PDRT will not experience further deterioration in fiber organization. These results provide important insights into the unique effects of rest tremor on brain fiber architecture in ET and PD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There are limited data comprehensively comparing therapy responses and outcomes among nilotinib, dasatinib, flumatinib and imatinib for newly diagnosed chronic-phase chronic myeloid leukemia in a real-world setting. PATIENTS AND METHODS Data from patients with chronic-phase CML receiving initial a second-generation tyrosine-kinase inhibitor (2G-TKI, nilotinib, dasatinib or flumatinib) or imatinib therapy from 77 Chinese centers were retrospectively interrogated. Propensity-score matching (PSM) analyses were performed to to compare therapy responses and outcomes among these 4 TKIs. RESULTS 2,496 patients receiving initial nilotinib (n = 512), dasatinib (n = 134), flumatinib (n = 411) or imatinib (n = 1,439) therapy were retrospectively interrogated in this study. PSM analyses indicated that patients receiving initial nilotinib, dasatinib or flumatinib therapy had comparable cytogenetic and molecular responses (p = .28-.91) and survival outcomes including failure-free survival (FFS, p = .28-.43), progression-free survival (PFS, p = .19-.93) and overall survival (OS) (p values = .76-.78) but had significantly higher cumulative incidences of cytogenetic and molecular responses (all p values < .001) and higher probabilities of FFS (p < .001-.01) than those receiving imatinib therapy, despite comparable PFS (p = .18-.89) and OS (p = .23-.30). CONCLUSION Nilotinib, dasatinib and flumatinib had comparable efficacy, and significantly higher therapy responses and higher FFS rates than imatinib in newly diagnosed CML patients. However, there were no significant differences in PFS and OS among these 4 TKIs. These real-world data may provide additional evidence for routine clinical assessments to identify more appropriate therapies.

Abstract
Epidemiological studies of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) and artificially sweetened beverages (ASBs) with Alzheimer's disease (AD) have provided controversial findings. Furthermore, little is known about the association between pure fruit/vegetable juices and AD. The present study aims to estimate the associations of SSBs, ASBs, and pure fruit/vegetable juices with AD, and to evaluate the theoretical effects of replacing SSBs and ASBs with the different consumption of pure fruit/vegetable juices on the risk of AD. This prospective cohort study of the UK Biobank included 206,606 participants aged 39-72 years free of dementia at baseline between 2006 and 2010. Dietary intake of SSBs, ASBs, and pure fruit/vegetable juices (naturally sweet juices) were collected using a 24-h dietary recall questionnaire completed between 2009 and 2012. Incident AD was identified by medical and mortality records. Cox proportional hazard models and substitution models were conducted to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). A total of 699 cases of AD were identified over a median follow-up of 9.5 years. The consumption of SSBs and ASBs (> 2 units/d) were associated with a higher risk of AD. However, participants who drank > 1-2 units/d of pure fruit/vegetable juices were associated with a lower risk of AD. In substitution models, replacing SSBs with an equivalent consumption of pure fruit/vegetable juices could be associated with a risk reduction of AD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Overlapping cases of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) are rare and have not yet been fully proven to be accidental or have a common genetic basis. METHODS Two-sample bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was applied to explore the potential causal relationship between SLE and PBC. The heterogeneity and reliability of MR analysis were evaluated through Cochran's Q-test and sensitivity test, respectively. Next, transcriptome overlap analysis of SLE and PBC was performed using the Gene Expression Omnibus database to identify the potential mechanism of hub genes. Finally, based on MR analysis, the potential causal relationship between hub genes and SLE or PBC was validated again. RESULTS The MR analysis results indicated that SLE and PBC were both high-risk factors for the occurrence and development of the other party. On the one hand, MR analysis had heterogeneity, and on the other hand, it also had robustness. Nine hub genes were identified through transcriptome overlap analysis, and machine learning algorithms were used to verify their high recognition efficiency for SLE patients. Finally, based on MR analysis, it was verified that there was no potential causal relationship between the central gene SOCS3 and SLE, but it was a high-risk factor for the potential risk of PBC. CONCLUSION The two-sample bidirectional MR analysis revealed that SLE and PBC were high-risk factors for each other, indicating that they had similar genetic bases, which could to some extent overcome the limitation of insufficient overlap in case samples of SLE and PBC. The analysis of transcriptome overlapping hub genes provided a theoretical basis for the potential mechanisms and therapeutic targets of SLE with PBC overlapping cases.

Abstract
Although GWASs have been conducted to investigate genetic variation of bladder tumorigenesis, little is known about genetic interactions that may influence bladder cancer (BC) risk. By leveraging large-scale participants from UK Biobank, we established a discovery database with 4000 Caucasian participants (2000 cases vs 2000 non-cases), a database with 1648 Caucasian participants (824 cases vs 824 non-cases) and 856 non-Caucasian participants (428 cases vs 428 non-cases) as validation. We then performed a genome-wide SNP-SNP interaction investigation related to BC risk based a machine learning approach (ie, GenEpi). Moreover, we used the selected interactions to build a BC screening model with an integrated interaction-empowered polygenic risk score (iPRS) based on Cox proportional hazard model. With Bonferroni correction, we identified 10 statistically significant pairs of SNPs, which located in 17 chromosomes. Of these, four SNP-SNP interactions were found to be positively associated with BC risk among Caucasian participants (ORs 1.57-2.03), while six SNP-SNP interactions showed negatively associated with BC risk (ORs 0.54-0.65). Only four of the SNP-SNP interactions were consistently identified in non-Caucasian participants located in ST7L-ADSS2, FHIT-CHDH, LARP4B-LHPP and RBFOX3-MPRIP. In addition, the iPRS showed a HR of 1.81 (95% CI: 1.46-2.09) compared the highest tertile to the lowest tertile, with an enhanced AUC (0.91; 95% CI:0.85-0.97) than PRS (AUC: 0.86; 95% CI:0.76-0.95; P-DeLong test = 2.2 × 10-4 ). In summary, this study identified several important SNP-SNP interactions for BC risk, and developed an iPRS model for BC screening, which may help to identify the people at high-risk state of BC before early manifestation.

Abstract
This study was completed to evaluate the relationship between tumor length and the prognosis of patients with pathological stage IA-IC esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC). Patients were identified from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program database (United States, 2006-2015). X-tile software and ROC analysis were mainly used to explore the best threshold of tumor length for dividing patients into different groups, and then propensity score matching (PSM) was used to balance other variables between groups. The primary outcome assessed was overall survival (OS). A total of 762 patients were identified, and 500 patients were left after PSM. Twenty millimeters were used as the threshold of tumor length. Patients with longer tumor lengths showed worse OS (median: 93 vs. 128 months; P = 0.006). Multivariable Cox regression analysis showed that longer tumor length was an independent risk factor (hazard ratio 1.512, 95% confidence interval, 1.158-1.974, P = 0.002). Tumor length has an impact on patients with pathological stage IA-IC EAC who undergo surgery alone. The prognostic value of the pathological stage group may be improved after combining it with tumor length and age.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Chondrosarcoma is a common bone malignancy, and the main treatment method is surgery. Different surgeries lead to different survival outcomes. The aim of this study was to construct a new clinical predictive tool to accurately predict the overall survival (OS) and cause specific survival (CSS) of patients with chondrosarcoma receiving different treatments. METHODS A total of 620 patients with chondrosarcoma registered between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2016 were recruited as study targets. The missing values are filled by multiple imputation. Two continuous variables, age and tumor size, were divided into binary variables based on Kaplan-Meier curve. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to explore predictors and establish nomograms. Propensity score matching (PSM) analysis was used to reduce the impact of potential confounders to determine whether different surgical modalities had any survival benefits in subgroups. RESULTS In a multivariate cox regression, age, grade, tumor size, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and surgical methods were identified as independent prognostic factors for chondrosarcoma. To construct 1-, 3-, and 5-year nomogram maps of OS and CSS with prognostic factors and verify the c index internally (OS, 0.807; CSS, 0.847) above American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) (OS, 0.685; CSS, 0.732). CONCLUSION This study found that the 5 year overall survival rate of patients with non-metastatic chondrosarcoma of the extremities was about 80%. Age, high malignancy, large tumor, prior chemoradiotherapy, and poor surgical selection were independent risk factors. Therefore, the nomogram established in this study will help to optimize clinicians' personalized decision making for patients.

Abstract
AIMS The purpose of this study was to clarify the dentato-rubro-thalamic (DRT) pathway in action tremor in comparison to normal controls (NC) and disease controls (i.e., rest tremor) by using multi-modality magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). METHODS This study included 40 essential tremor (ET) patients, 57 Parkinson's disease (PD) patients (29 with rest tremor, 28 without rest tremor), and 41 NC. We used multi-modality MRI to comprehensively assess major nuclei and fiber tracts of the DRT pathway, which included decussating DRT tract (d-DRTT) and non-decussating DRT tract (nd-DRTT), and compared the differences in DRT pathway components between action and rest tremor. RESULTS Bilateral dentate nucleus (DN) in the ET group had excessive iron deposition compared with the NC group. Compared with the NC group, significantly decreased mean diffusivity and radial diffusivity were observed in the left nd-DRTT in the ET group, which were negatively correlated with tremor severity. No significant difference in each component of the DRT pathway was observed between the PD subgroup or the PD and NC. CONCLUSION Aberrant changes in the DRT pathway may be specific to action tremor and were indicating that action tremor may be related to pathological overactivation of the DRT pathway.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Aortic diseases remain a highly perilous macrovascular condition. The relationship between circulating aldosterone and aortic diseases is rarely explored, thus we investigated the difference in plasma aldosterone concentration (PAC) between patients with and without aortic disease in hypertensive people. METHODS We analyzed 926 patients with hypertension, ranging in age from 18 to 89 years, who had their PAC measured from the hospital's electronic database. The case group and control group were defined based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The analysis included general information, clinical data, biochemical data, and medical imaging examination results as covariates. To further evaluate the difference in PAC between primary hypertension patients with aortic disease and those without, we used multivariate logistic regression analysis and also employed propensity score matching to minimize the influence of confounding factors. RESULTS In total, 394 participants were included in the analysis, with 66 individuals diagnosed with aortic diseases and 328 in the control group. The participants were predominantly male (64.5%) and over the age of 50 (68.5%), with an average PAC of 19.95 ng/dL. After controlling for confounding factors, the results showed hypertension patients with aortic disease were more likely to have high PAC levels than those without aortic disease (OR = 1.138, 95% CI [1.062 to 1.238]). Subgroup analysis revealed consistent relationship between PAC and primary hypertensive patients with aortic disease across the different stratification variables. Additionally, hypertensive patients with aortic disease still have a risk of higher PAC levels than those without aortic disease, even after propensity score matching. CONCLUSIONS The results of this study suggest that primary hypertensive patients with aortic diseases have elevated levels of PAC, but the causal relationship between PAC and aortic disease requires further study.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES We performed a clinical study comparing early-onset and late-onset conventional colorectal adenomas (CCRAs) since little is known about the differences in their characteristics. METHODS Pearson's chi-square test and the Kruskal‒Wallis test were used to compare basic information. MCAR tests and multiple imputation were performed to complete missing values. Multivariate logistic analysis and propensity score matching were used to identify the risk factors for recurrence. RESULTS We included 2793 patients (688 with early-onset CCRAs and 2105 with late-onset CCRAs) from January 2017 to December 2021. Patients with early-onset CCRAs had higher levels of Hb, ALB, and triglycerides but lower HDL levels and N/L ratios. Moreover, we found that more early-onset CCRAs were in the left colon than late-onset CCRAs, and the size of early-onset CCRAs was larger. Early-onset CCRAs tended to lack pedicles compared to late-onset CCRAs. Additionally, the ratio of EMR and APC in early-onset CCRAs was higher than that in late-onset CCRAs, and the ratio of ESD and surgery for late-onset CCRAs was higher. We found that age ≥ 50 years, abnormal vessels, drinking alcohol, and DB and ALB levels may be risk factors for recurrence, while the LDL level may be a protective factor. Finally, analysis of cumulative recurrence rates after PSM showed that patients with late-onset CCRAs exhibited higher recurrence rates (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Compared with late-onset CCRAs, early-onset CCRAs were associated with higher triglyceride levels, lower HDL levels, and larger tumor volumes. Age ≥ 50 years, abnormal vessels, alcohol consumption, and DB and ALB levels were independent risk factors for recurrence of CCRAs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Sublobar resection, including wedge resection and segmentectomy, is non-inferior to lobectomy in early-stage non-small cell lung cancer treatment. We aimed to compare the risk of postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) between sublobar resection and lobectomy. METHODS We conducted a prospective cohort study. Patients with sublobar resection or lobectomy were divided into the sublobar group or the lobar group, respectively. Cognition was assessed before and after surgery with Montreal Cognitive Assessment and Minimum Mental State Examination tests. POCD is defined as Z score of Montreal Cognitive Assessment change ≤-1.96. Propensity score matching (PSM) was performed to make demographics well-balanced between the 2 groups. RESULTS A total of 335 patients were enrolled. Both the postoperative 1-day POCD rate (sublobar 5.5% vs lobar 18.2%, P < 0.001) and the postoperative 1-month POCD rate (sublobar 7.9% vs lobar 21.8%, P < 0.001) were significantly lower in the sublobar group compared with lobar group, with demographics unbalanced between the 2 groups. In the 133 demographics-matched pairs obtained by PSM, both the postoperative 1-day POCD rate (sublobar 5.3% vs lobar 17.3%, P = 0.005) and the postoperative 1-month POCD rate (sublobar 8.3% vs lobar 18.8%, P = 0.018) remained significantly lower in the sublobar group than in the lobar group. The incidences of postoperative 1-day (P = 0.109) and postoperative 1-month (P = 0.026) Minimum Mental State Examination abnormity were also lower in the sublobar group than in the lobar group but only the latter was with statistical significance after PSM. CONCLUSIONS Sublobar resection has an advantage over lobectomy in preventing POCD. Our findings might be a reference for selecting the most suitable type of resection for non-small-cell lung cancer patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) targeting the Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide (CGRP) pathway are safe and effective treatments for migraine prevention. However, the high cost of these novel therapies has led to reimbursement policies requiring patients to try multiple traditional preventives before access. In Germany, a recent change in insurance policy significantly expanded coverage for the CGRP receptor mAb erenumab, enabling migraine patients who failed just one prior prophylactic medication to receive this mAb. Here, we compare the clinical response to treatment with erenumab in migraine patients treated using the old and new coverage policy. METHODS In this retrospective cohort study, we included CGRP-mAb naïve patients with episodic or chronic migraine, who started erenumab at our headache center according to either the old or the new insurance policy and received at least 3 consecutive injections. Headache diaries and electronic documentation were used to evaluate reductions in monthly headache and migraine days (MHD and MMD) and ≥ 50% and ≥ 30% responder rates at month 3 (weeks 9-12) of treatment. RESULTS We included 146 patients who received erenumab according to the old policy and 63 patients that were treated using the new policy. At weeks 9-12 of treatment, 37.7% of the old policy group had a 50% or greater reduction in MHD, compared to 63.5% of the new policy group (P < 0.001). Mean reduction in MHD was 5.02 days (SD = 5.46) and 6.67 days (SD = 5.32, P = 0.045) in the old and new policy cohort, respectively. After propensity score matching, the marginal effect of the new policy on treatment outcome was 2.29 days (standard error, SE: 0.715, P = 0.001) more reduction in MHD, and 30.1% (SE: 10.6%, P = 0.005) increase in ≥ 50% response rate for MHD. CONCLUSIONS Starting erenumab earlier in the course of migraine progression in a real-world setting may lead to a better response than starting after multiple failed prophylactic attempts. Continually gathering real-world evidence may help policymakers in deciding how readily to cover CGRP-targeted therapies in migraine prevention.

Abstract
Background Transitioning from marriage to widowhood presents inevitable and significant challenges for many older adults. This study explored the impact of widowhood on a range of mental health outcomes, including pulse pressure and fasting blood glucose levels, among older adults in nursing homes. Methods This cross-sectional study utilized cluster random sampling to recruit participants, with data analyzed from 388 older Chinese adults. Psychosocial traits were assessed using the Perceived Social Support from Family scale (PSS-Fa) for family support, the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale (GAD-7) for anxiety symptoms, and the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) for depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation. Propensity score matching (PSM) was employed to control for confounding factors. A multivariate linear regression analysis was performed to explore the relationship between widowhood, mental health outcomes, pulse pressure, and fasting blood glucose levels. Results After applying PSM, the sample size was refined to 268 (N = 134 for both married and widowed groups) from the initial 388, excluding 120 unmatched cases. Widowed older adults were found to have notably lower family support (β = -0.81, p = 0.002), increased depressive symptoms (β = 1.04, p = 0.043), elevated pulse pressure (β = 8.90, p < 0.001), and higher fasting blood glucose levels (β = 3.22, p = 0.027). These associations exhibited greater beta values compared to pre-matching analysis. Conclusion Our findings revealed that widowed participants had reduced family support, an increased risk of depressive symptoms, heightened pulse pressure, and elevated fasting blood glucose in comparison to their married counterparts. Interventions focusing on social support, mental health, and cardiovascular well-being could be advantageous for this at-risk group.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between hypoalbuminemia upon admission and the incidence of postoperative urinary tract infections (UTIs) in elderly patients with hip fractures. METHODS A retrospective analysis was performed on the medical records of elderly patients who underwent surgical treatment for hip fractures at a level I trauma center from 2013 to 2023. Serum albumin levels were measured upon admission, and hypoalbuminemia was defined as a total albumin level < 35 g/L. Multivariable logistic regression and propensity score matching analysis were utilized to control and reduce potential confounding factors, aiming to obtain adjusted odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for UTIs to determine the strength of the association. RESULTS This observational cohort study included 1279 patients, among whom 298 (23.3%) developed UTIs. Patients with albumin levels < 35 g/L had significantly greater odds of developing UTIs compared to those with albumin levels ≥ 35 g/L (OR 1.86, 95% CI 1.28-2.70). Further analysis, dividing albumin levels into quartiles, demonstrated that patients in the Q2 group (38.0-40.9 g/L; OR 1.38, 95% CI 0.88-2.17), Q3 group (35.0-37.9 g/L; OR 1.69, 95% CI 1.06-2.71), and Q4 group (15.3-34.9 g/L; OR 2.67, 95% CI 1.61-4.43) had notably higher odds of developing UTIs compared to those in the Q1 group (41.0-52.0 g/L). CONCLUSIONS The presence of hypoalbuminemia upon admission in elderly patients undergoing hip fracture surgery is strongly correlated with the occurrence of postoperative UTIs. Furthermore, this association exhibits a clear dose-response relationship.

Abstract
PURPOSE Investigate the association between the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) about the presence of postoperative pneumonia (POP) in geriatric patients with hip fractures. Compare the predictive value of these biomarkers for POP and assess their potential for early detection of POP. METHODS We retrospectively included elderly patients with hip fractures who underwent surgical treatment at our institution. POP was diagnosed according to the guidelines provided by the American Thoracic Society. We collected neutrophil, lymphocyte, and platelet counts upon admission to calculate the NLR, PLR, and SII. Receiver operating characteristic curves were utilized to establish the optimal cutoff values for each index. Multivariate logistic regression analysis and propensity score matching analysis were utilized to assess the independent association between each index and POP after adjusting for demographic, comorbidity, and surgery-related variables. RESULTS The study included a total of 1199 patients, among whom 111 cases (9.26%) developed POP. NLR exhibited the highest predictive value for POP in elderly patients with hip fractures compared to PLR and SII (AUC = 0.648, 95% CI 0.594-0.701). A high NLR, using the optimal cutoff value of 5.84, was significantly associated with an increased incidence of POP (OR = 2.24, 95% CI 1.43-3.51). This finding remained statistically significant even after propensity score matching (OR = 2.04, 95% CI 1.31-3.20). CONCLUSIONS Among the three inflammatory/immune markers considered, the NLR demonstrates the highest reliability as a predictor for POP in elderly patients with hip fractures. Therefore, it serves as a valuable tool for early identification.

Abstract
In recent years, there has been a substantial increase in the number of adolescent students attending extracurricular tutoring. However, extracurricular tutoring, being a distinct form of education, may have varying effects on cognitive capabilities compared to conventional education. Accordingly, the purpose of this paper is to conduct a thorough examination of the effects of extracurricular tutoring on cognitive abilities among adolescent students. The study utilized national data from the China Family Panel Study 2018 to explore the relationship between involvement in extracurricular tutoring among students and cognitive abilities. The study included 2567 valid respondents. A binary logistic regression model was built to determine the factors associated with tutoring involvement while controlling for 19 individual, family, and school factors. Furthermore, a propensity score-matched analysis was conducted in order to mitigate potential bias by using confounding variables identified in the previous step. The study results show that participation in extracurricular tutoring can significantly increase the level of cognitive ability of adolescent students, with adjustments made for age, gender, ethnicity, number of family members, net family income per capita, education and training expenditure in the past years, change of residence for enrollment, change of domicile address for enrollment, locality of the current school, class size, hold a position as a class cadre, average daily study time on weekdays, average study time per day during weekends. The findings imply that the government should provide tutorial subsidies to disadvantaged groups of adolescent students, allocate educational resources equitably, and invest more in education resources in less developed regions to foster fair and healthy development of education and improve the cognitive abilities of young students in the long-term.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The goal of this study was to investigate whether an operation can offer survival benefits for patients with a second primary non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) after a lobectomy for a first primary NSCLC and to analyse the characteristics affecting the survival of those patients. METHODS We performed survival analyses of patients with a second primary NSCLC based on the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results program and used propensity score matching to reduce the potential bias and analyse the data. In addition, the primary observational end point was overall survival (OS), and the secondary observational end point was histologic migration. RESULTS The data from 944 patients were used to perform the main analysis. A total of 36.2% of patients experienced a shift in tumour histologic type between 2 diagnoses of primary NSCLC, and this shift significantly affected OS (P = 0.0065). The median survival time in patients with surgical resection and those without an operation was 52.0 months versus 33.0 months, respectively. Patients with surgical resection at the secondary diagnosis had better survival than those without surgery (5-year OS rate: 48.0% vs 34.0%, P < 0.001). In addition, compared with a pneumonectomy and a sublobar resection, a lobectomy was the optimal surgical procedure for patients diagnosed with a second primary NSCLC after adjusting for other confounders (adjusted hazard ratio: 0.68, P < 0.01). However, in the subgroup analysis, lobar and sublobar resections could provide similar survival benefits for patients with tumour size ≤20 mm (P = 0.5). CONCLUSIONS The operation, especially a lobectomy, can prolong OS in patients with a second primary NSCLC. Besides, sublobar resection can be performed in selected patients with tumour size ≤20 mm. Moreover, histologic migration may impact the survival of those patients with a secondary primary NSCLC.

Abstract
While Bayesian networks (BNs) offer a promising approach to discussing factors related to many diseases, little attention has been poured into chronic kidney disease with mental illness (KDMI) using BNs. This study aimed to explore the complex network relationships between KDMI and its related factors and to apply Bayesian reasoning for KDMI, providing a scientific reference for its prevention and treatment. Data was downloaded from the online open database of CHARLS 2018, a population-based longitudinal survey. Missing values were first imputed using Random Forest, followed by propensity score matching (PSM) for class balancing regarding KDMI. Elastic Net was then employed for variable selection from 18 variables. Afterwards, the remaining variables were included in BNs model construction. Structural learning of BNs was achieved using tabu algorithm and the parameter learning was conducted using maximum likelihood estimation. After PSM, 427 non-KDMI cases and 427 KDMI cases were included in this study. Elastic Net identified 11 variables significantly associated with KDMI. The BNs model comprised 12 nodes and 24 directed edges. The results suggested that diabetes, physical activity, education levels, sleep duration, social activity, self-report on health and asset were directly related factors for KDMI, whereas sex, age, residence and Internet access represented indirect factors for KDMI. BN model not only allows for the exploration of complex network relationships between related factors and KDMI, but also could enable KDMI risk prediction through Bayesian reasoning. This study suggests that BNs model holds great prospects in risk factor detection for KDMI.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Development of endovenous treatment and sclerotherapy technology makes it feasible for clinicians to treat varicose veins (VV) through day surgery (DS). Superficial venous thrombosis (SVT) of lower extremities is a common complication of VV. This study aimed to investigate whether the existence of SVT below knee affect the safety and efficacy of DS for VV patients. METHODS This is a single-center retrospective study. Clinical data of 593 VV patients was retrospectively analyzed. Raw data were matched by the using of propensity score matching model. Operation time, technical failure, postoperative DVT, skin burns, saphenous nerve injury, subcutaneous induration, and bleeding were compared between the groups. Also, we compared VV recurrence, SVT formation, DVT events and the change of VCSS score with 12 months. RESULTS Fifty-nine patients complicated with SVT below knee were matched with 118 patients had VV only. Perioperative and follow-up outcomes were similar in both groups except for the number of incisions (median = 6 [5, 7] VS median = 4 [4, 5], P < 0.001). Both groups experienced a great decrease in VCSS score. CONCLUSION We systematically compared the clinical outcomes of DS in VV patients. Our results indicate DS is safe and effective for patients with VV, whether accompanied by SVT below the knee. Abstract
BACKGROUND Owing to different social background factor in Yunnan-Myanmar Chinese border region, stressful working environment may lead to extra psychological burden among nurse staff in China. However, the prevalence of workplace violence and its effect on psychological characteristics among nurse staff are still unclear. This study aims to explore the effect of workplace violence against psychological health among nurse staff from Yunnan-Myanmar Chinese border region. METHODS A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 18 local governmental hospitals in Dehong districts. Participants were 1,774 nurses. Psychosocial characteristics were screened by sleep quality, the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire for depressive symptoms, the generalized anxiety disorder-7 for anxiety symptoms, the Connor Davidson Resilience Scale - 10 item for resilience, the multidimensional scale of perceived social support for social support, the Chinese version of Work place Violence Scale for workplace violence. Propensity score matching and multivariate linear regression were applied to analyze the data. RESULTS The nurse staff with workplace violence have a higher risk of bad sleep quality (b = -0.883, 95%CI = [-1.171, -0.595]), anxiety symptoms (b = 2.531, 95%CI = [2.031, 3.031]) and depressive symptoms (b = 3.227, 95%CI = [2.635, 3.819]), loneliness (b = 0.683, 95%CI = [0.503, 0.863]), perceived cognitive deficits (b = 1.629, 95%CI = [1.131, 2.127]), poor resilience (b = -2.012, 95%CI = [-2.963, -1.061]), and poor social support (b = -5.659, 95%CI = [-7.307, -4.011]). CONCLUSIONS Preventing workplace violence can improve mental health outcomes significantly among nurse staff, including loneliness, perceived cognitive deficits, anxiety symptoms, depressive symptoms, sleep quality, resilience and social support.

Abstract
Purpose Exploring whether smoking is an influencing factor for the inconsistency between QuantiFERONTB Gold assay (QFT-GIT) and tuberculosis etiology. Patients and Methods The clinical data of patients who were confirmed positive for Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) after undergoing QFT-GIT testing from September 2017 to August 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. Chi-square and rank-sum tests were used to compare the differences in characteristics between smokers and non-smokers. Logistic regression was used to adjust for confounding factors affecting smoking. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to verify the above conclusions again. Results Positive results of tuberculosis etiology were adopted as the standard, the incidence of inconsistent results between QFT-GIT and tuberculosis etiology was 8.90% (108/1213), of which the false negative rate was 6.27% (76/1213) and the indeterminate rate was 2.64% (32/1213). In the overall population, the smokers had a lower level of basal IFN-γ (Z=-2.079, P=0.038). Among 382 elderly (≥65 years old) patients, the smokers had lower levels of antigen-stimulated IFN-γ (Z=-2.838, P=0.005). After performing BOX-COX transformation on all non-normally distributed data, logistic stepwise regression was used to adjust confounding factors. The results showed that smoking was an influencing factor for the inconsistency between QFT-GIT and tuberculosis etiology results (OR=1.69, P=0.020). Using PSM for 1:2 matching, the results showed that smoking was still an independent risk factor for the inconsistent results of QFT-GIT and tuberculosis etiology (OR= 1.95, P=0.019). Age-stratified analysis showed that smoking was an independent risk factor in discordance between QFT-GIT and tuberculosis etiology in patients aged ≥65 years (OR=2.40, P=0.005), but not in patients aged <65 years (P > 0.05). Conclusion Smoking can reduce the body's IFN-γ release ability, and smoking (especially the elderly) is an influencing factor for the inconsistency between QFT-GIT and tuberculosis etiological results.

Abstract
Background The 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic increased the risks of mental health challenges, especially anxiety and depression. However, the impact of COVID-19 on mental health during pregnancy has not been fully established. Therefore, we investigated the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on maternal mental health. Methods Two cohorts of pregnant women at their first antenatal care in the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University were enrolled in this study. One cohort was enrolled before the COVID-19 outbreak, from 1 June to 31 December 2019 (n = 5,728, pre-COVID-19 group), while the other was enrolled during the COVID-19 pandemic, from 24 January to 23 March 2020 (n = 739, COVID-19 pandemic group). Symptoms of depression, anxiety, and somatization disorders were assessed by the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), and Patient Health Questionnaire-15 (PHQ-15), with a cutoff point of 10 for moderate-to-severe depression, anxiety, and somatoform symptoms. The propensity score matching method (1:1) was used to balance differences in demographic characteristics between groups. A chi-square analysis was performed to compare differences in demographic characteristics between the groups. Results Prevalence of moderate-to-severe depression, anxiety, and somatoform symptoms among pregnant women at their first antenatal care visit during the COVID-19 pandemic (9.5, 2.2, and 20.8%, respectively) was significantly lower than those before the pandemic (16.3, 4.4, and 25.7%, respectively) (p < 0.05). Compared with the same period before the pandemic, during the pandemic, the number of women newly registered for antenatal care decreased by nearly 50%. There were significant differences in the distributions of demographic characteristics between the groups (p < 0.05). After matching the demographic characteristics, differences in the prevalence of maternal mental health disorders between the groups reversed dramatically. Prevalence of moderate-to-severe depression, anxiety, and somatoform symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic in this population (2.3, 9.6, and 20.8%, respectively) was significantly higher than those before the pandemic (0.3, 3.9, and 10%, respectively) (p < 0.05). Conclusion The COVID-19 pandemic increased mental health risks among pregnant women. As a large proportion of pregnant women with mental health challenges delay their prenatal care or change healthcare facilities after the outbreak of public health emergencies, there is a need to establish a balanced healthcare system in medical institutions at all levels.

Abstract
Objective This study aimed to explore whether children with AH have a higher obesity prevalence and analyze the risk factors for otitis media with effusion(OME) in AH children. Methods AH patients aged 3-12 years old that were hospitalized in our hospital for adenoidectomy from June 2020 to September 2022 were included in this study. Height and weight were measured to calculate the body mass index, weight for height and weight z-score to evaluate the development of AH children. Propensity score matching was applied to minimize patient selection bias and adjust for confounding factors to analyze the risk factors for OME in children with AH. Results A total of 887 children with AH were enrolled in this study. The prevalence of overweight or obesity was higher in children with AH than the control group. The size of adenoids is significantly different between AH children with and without OME. For children aged over 5, there are significantly higher counts of white blood cells, neutrophils, and monocytes in the AH children with OME than those without OME. More individuals represent to be atopic in children with OME than those without OME. Conclusion The obstruction of the Eustachian tube is the most important factor of OME in AH children. It seems that there is no apparent correlation between OME and atopic conditions in AH children. In addition to surgical resection of adenoids, active control of infection and inflammation are also important to prevent OME for AH children aged over 5.

Abstract
Stroke is a major chronic non-communicable disease with high incidence, high mortality, and high recurrence. To comprehensively digest its risk factors and take some relevant measures to lower its prevalence is of great significance. This study aimed to employ Bayesian Network (BN) model with Max-Min Hill-Climbing (MMHC) algorithm to explore the risk factors for stroke. From April 2019 to November 2019, Shanxi Provincial People's Hospital conducted opportunistic screening for stroke in ten rural areas in Shanxi Province. First, we employed propensity score matching (PSM) for class balancing for stroke. Afterwards, we used Chi-square testing and Logistic regression model to conduct a preliminary analysis of risk factors for stroke. Statistically significant variables were incorporated into BN model construction. BN structure learning was achieved using MMHC algorithm, and its parameter learning was achieved with Maximum Likelihood Estimation. After PSM, 748 non-stroke cases and 748 stroke cases were included in this study. BN was built with 10 nodes and 12 directed edges. The results suggested that age, fasting plasma glucose, systolic blood pressure, and family history of stroke constitute direct risk factors for stroke, whereas sex, educational levels, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, diastolic blood pressure, and urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio represent indirect risk factors for stroke. BN model with MMHC algorithm not only allows for a complicated network relationship between risk factors and stroke, but also could achieve stroke risk prediction through Bayesian reasoning, outshining traditional Logistic regression model. This study suggests that BN model boasts great prospects in risk factor detection for stroke.

Abstract
BackgroundPrognostic factors in a pneumonectomy (PN) are not yet fully defined. This study sought to analyze and evaluate long-term survival after pneumonectomies (PNs) for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).MethodsWe obtained data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database for patients who underwent PNs between 2004 and 2015. Propensity score matching (PSM) analysis and Kaplan–Meier curves were used to estimate overall survival (OS), while univariate and multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression analyses were applied to create a forest plot.ResultsIn total, 1,376 patients were grouped according to right/left PNs. Before matching, OS was worse after a right PN [hazard ratio (HR): 1.459; 95% CI 1.254–1.697; P < 0.001] and after matching, survival differences between groups were not significant (HR: 1.060; 95% CI 0.906–1.240; P = 0.465). Regression analysis revealed that age, gender, grade, lymph node dissection, N-stage, and chemotherapy were independent predictors of OS (P < 0.05). Chemotherapy was associated with improved OS (P < 0.001).ConclusionsLaterality was not a significant prognostic factor for long-term survival after a PN for NSCLC. Chemotherapy was a significant independent predictor of improved OS. Long-term survival and outcomes analyses should be conducted on larger numbers of patients.

Abstract
The association between micronutrient intake and the risk of periodontitis has received much attention in recent years. However, most studies focused on the linear relationship between them. This study aimed to explore the dose-response association between micronutrient intake and periodontitis. A total of 8959 participants who underwent a periodontal examination, and reported their micronutrient intake levels were derived from the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES, 2009-2014) database. Logistic regression was performed to evaluate associations between micronutrient intake and periodontitis after propensity score matching (PSM), and restricted cubic splines (RCS) analysis was conducted to explore the dose-response associations. Following PSM, 5530 participants were included in the RCS analysis. The risk of periodontitis was reduced with sufficient intake of the following micronutrients: vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, and vitamin E. In addition, the risk of periodontitis was increased with excessive intake of the following micronutrients: vitamin B1 (1.8 mg/day, males; 1.3 mg/day, females), vitamin C (90 mg/day, males), and copper (1.1 mg/day, combined). In conclusion, a linear association was found between vitamin A, vitamin B2, vitamin C, and copper and periodontitis-namely, a sufficient intake of vitamin A and vitamin B2 might help reduce the prevalence of periodontitis; by contrast, a high intake of vitamin C and copper increased the risk. In addition, a nonlinear dose-response association was found for the incidence of periodontitis with vitamin B1 and vitamin E. When within reasonable limits, supplemental intake helped reduce the prevalence of periodontitis, while excessive intake did not help significantly and might even increase the risk. However, confounding factors, such as health awareness, should still be considered.
