Abstract
BACKGROUND In Jordan, no national value set is available for any preference-accompanied health utility measure. OBJECTIVE This study aims to develop a value set for EQ-5D-3L based on the preferences of the Jordanian general population. METHODS A representative sample of the Jordanian general population was obtained through quota sampling involving age, gender, and region. Participants aged above 18 years were interviewed via videoconferencing using the EuroQol Valuation Technology 2.1 protocol. Participants completed ten composite time trade-offs (cTTO) and ten discrete choice experiments (DCE) tasks. cTTO and DCE data were analyzed using linear and logistic regression models, respectively, and hybrid models were applied to the combined DCE and cTTO data. RESULTS A total of 301 participants with complete data were included in the analysis. The sample was representative of the general population regarding region, age, and gender. All model types applied, that is, random intercept model, random intercept Tobit, linear model with correction for heteroskedasticity, Tobit with correction for heteroskedasticity, and all hybrid models, were statistically significant. They showed logical consistency in terms of higher utility decrements with more severe levels. The hybrid model corrected for heteroskedasticity was selected to construct the Jordanian EQ-5D-3L value set as it showed the best fit and lowest mean absolute error. The predicted value for the most severe health state (33333) was - 0.563. Utility decrements due to mobility had the largest weight, followed by anxiety/depression, while usual activities had the smallest weight. CONCLUSION This study provides the first EQ-5D-3L value set in the Middle East. The Jordanian EQ-5D-3L value set can now be used in health technology assessments for health policy planning by the Jordanian health sector's decision-makers.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Multiple studies suggest that the EQ-5D may overestimate health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with coeliac disease (CD). We aimed to develop and psychometrically test potentially relevant bolt-on dimensions to improve the measurement performance of the EQ-5D-5L in CD patients. METHODS The development and selection of bolt-ons were informed by a literature review on HRQoL in CD, expert and patient input. A cross-sectional online survey was conducted amongst 312 adult CD patients. Respondents completed the EQ-5D-5L, two condition-specific bolt-ons newly-developed for the present study [dining (DI) and gastrointestinal problems (GI)] and three existing bolt-ons [cognition (CO), sleep (SL) and tiredness (TI)]. The following psychometric properties were tested: ceiling, informativity, convergent and known-group validity, and dimensionality (confirmatory factor analysis). RESULTS Adding the TI, SL, GI, DI and CO individual bolt-ons reduced the ceiling of the EQ-5D-5L (39%) to 17%, 23%, 24%, 26% and 37%, respectively. GI excelled with strong convergent validity with the Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale total score (rs=0.71) and improved the discriminatory power for all known-groups. GI was the only bolt-on loading on a different factor from the five core dimensions, whereas the other four bolt-ons loaded onto the same 'psychosocial health' factor as the EQ-5D-5L anxiety/depression dimension. CONCLUSION The DI, GI, SL and TI bolt-ons, especially the GI, enhance the validity of EQ-5D-5L in patients with CD, suggesting their value in capturing important HRQoL aspects potentially missed by the five core dimensions. These bolt-ons can be used in sensitivity analyses supporting health technology assessments and subsequent resource allocation decisions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to develop a value set for the EQ-5D-5L based on preferences of the general adult population of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). METHODS The study followed the EuroQol EQ-5D-5L valuation protocol and involved conducting interviewer-administered face-to-face or online interviews in Arabic or English, using the EuroQol Valuation Technology with a sample of 1005 adults representing the UAE general population. Sample recruitment involved a 2-stage quota sampling strategy across the 7 emirates of the UAE, ensuring representation of nationals and expatriates. Various models using composite time trade-off data only, discrete choice experiment data only, and hybrid using both composite time trade-off and discrete choice experiment data were examined, along with various sensitivity analyses to examine the robustness of the models. RESULTS The average age of respondents was 39 years (SD 10.8), 44.5% were female, and 11% were UAE nationals. The best-performing model to generate the value set for the EQ-5D-5L was the hybrid tobit model censored at -1.0, corrected for heteroskedasticity. Values ranged from -0.654 for the worst health state (55555) to 1 for full health (11111) and 0.962 for 11211, with 15.3% of predicted values worse than dead. Mobility problems had the largest impact on health state preference values relative to other dimensions. CONCLUSION This value set will facilitate the application and use of the EQ-5D-5L instrument in the UAE population in generating local evidence on the cost-effectiveness of healthcare interventions, as well as to enhance other applications of EQ-5D in population health assessment and health systems.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES There is growing interest in measuring health outcomes associated with minimally invasive cosmetic procedures (MICPs), such as botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid injections. However, the EQ-5D may have limited content validity for this purpose. This study aims to psychometrically test five additional dimensions ('bolt-ons') for the EQ-5D-5L in individuals planning or undergoing MICPs. METHODS In 2023, a cross-sectional, online survey was conducted with 149 women planning MICPs and 215 who had recently undergone them. Respondents completed the EQ-5D-5L, five bolt-ons (skin irritation, self-confidence, sleep, social relationships, tiredness), the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) and the Brief Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale-Straightforward Items (BFNE-S). The following psychometric properties were tested for the EQ-5D-5L + bolt-on(s): ceiling, convergent and divergent validity, explanatory power and known-groups validity. RESULTS Adding tiredness (22%), self-confidence (23%) or sleep bolt-ons (27%) substantially reduced the ceiling of the EQ-5D-5L (47%). The self-confidence and social relationships bolt-ons showed a moderate or strong correlation with the RSES and BFNE-S total scores (-0.462 to -0.679). The tiredness and self-confidence bolt-ons improved the EQ-5D-5L's explained variance in EQ VAS scores from 37% to 45%. The self-confidence and social relationships bolt-ons improved the EQ-5D-5L's discrimination between known groups based on self-esteem and bodily appearance (relative efficiency: 2.72 to 2.82). CONCLUSIONS Relevant bolt-ons substantially enhance the psychometric performance of the EQ-5D-5L in MICP populations. The self-confidence and tiredness bolt-ons may be recommended as primary choices for use alongside the EQ-5D-5L, both in clinical studies and as part of sensitivity analyses in economic evaluations of MICPs.

Abstract
PURPOSE There is a growing interest in Health Technology Assessment (HTA) in Morocco. A national EQ-5D-5L value set would allow for the computation of Quality Adjusted Life Years (QALYs) in economic evaluations of healthcare interventions to support decision-making. This study aimed to develop a Moroccan EQ-5D-5L value set based on data from a representative sample of the Moroccan adult general population. METHODS A Moroccan representative sample of adults was recruited using stratified quota sampling based on gender, age category, and place of residence. Data were collected between November 2022 and December 2023 using the international EuroQol valuation protocol, EQ-VT version 2.6.1. This protocol includes two elicitation techniques: the composite time trade-off (cTTO) and the discrete choice experiment (DCE). cTTO and DCE data were modeled using a heteroskedastic Tobit model and a conditional logit model, respectively. In addition, these models were combined using a hybrid model. RESULTS A total of 976 respondents were included in the final analysis. The hybrid heteroskedastic model was considered the preferred model. The predicted utility values ranged from -1.492 for the worst health state (55555) to 1 for full health (11111), where the two mildest impaired states (11211 and 21111) had a utility value of 0.979. Pain/discomfort had the largest effect on health utility values, followed by anxiety/depression, mobility, self-care and usual activities. CONCLUSION Morocco is the third country in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region with an EQ-5D-5L value set. This study supports the use of EQ-5D-5L data for healthcare decision-making in the Moroccan context.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES The aims of this study were to provide population norms for EQ-5D-5L in Hungary and investigate the differences in EQ-5D-5L normative data by survey mode, i.e. online surveys and computer assisted personal interviews (CAPI). METHODS A pooled database was built comprising six online (N = 7,034) and two CAPI (N = 3,020) population-based studies with the EQ-5D-5L. Descriptive statistics were performed. Multinominal logistic and linear regression analyses were applied to compare the online and CAPI samples. Traditional and machine learning regression tools were used to investigate the determinants of EQ-5D-5L index values. RESULTS 'No problems' in any of the five EQ-5D-5L domains were reported by 33.9% (online) and 58.9% (CAPI) of the participants. Most problems were reported on the pain/discomfort domain in both study types (51.9% and 33.6%, respectively). Men and more educated respondents had significantly higher average EQ-5D-5L index values. EQ-5D-5L index values and EQ VAS scores were significantly higher in the CAPI sample, except in age groups 65-74 (no difference) and 75+ (online scores were significantly higher). Only 7-10% of variance in the EQ-5D-5L index values was explained by the variables survey mode, education, sex and age, with age having the largest and sex the smallest effect. CONCLUSIONS EQ-5D-5L population norms derived from online and CAPI studies may differ significantly from each other. It is recommended to consider the survey mode, sampling and sociodemographic characteristics of the participants when choosing population norms as reference set. Further comparative studies investigating EQ-5D-5L population norms by different study designs and administration modes are encouraged.

Abstract
This study aims to explore the measurement agreement between direct and indirect health utility measures in four chronic dermatological conditions (atopic dermatitis, hidradenitis suppurativa, pemphigus, psoriasis). Outpatients survey data collected between 2015 and 2021 were analysed. Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) outcome measures included time trade-off (TTO), EQ-5D-5L and Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI). Descriptive statistics were computed for the pooled sample and four diseases. Mean, standard deviation (SD), median, interquartile range (IQR), ceiling and floor effects were calculated for TTO, EQ-5D-5L and DLQI utilities. Bland‒Altman plots and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) were applied to investigate the agreement between health utility measures. Sociodemographic characteristics (age, sex, educational level, employment status) and health-related information (disease duration, outpatient care visits in the past 3 months and disease severity) impact on utilities was investigated by Tobit regressions. The sample includes N = 765 patient responses with a mean age of 41.5 (SD = 16.2), majority being males (52.7%). Total sample mean utilities were the highest according to TTO (0.83), followed by EQ-5D-5L and vDLQI (0.81 and 0.81) and lowest in mDLQI (0.77). Measurement agreement was found only between TTO and EQ-5D-5L. Skin-disease severity impacted all health state utilities, though only TTO differentiated utility values according to disease type. The discrepancies between the TTO and DLQI warn to compare DLQI-based utilities in different dermatological conditions with extreme caution.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The transferability of health policies in the European Union (EU) faces challenges due to economic, political, and healthcare system factors, including cross-country differences in health preferences. In order to aid policymaking, previous research has grouped EU countries based on geographical proximity or literature-based criteria, but not on health preference data. The EQ-5D-5L instrument, which measures health-related quality of life and reflects unique national health preferences shaped by cultural and social factors, is used to evaluate policies, technologies and interventions, but has not been used to group countries. Thus, this study aims to identify clusters of EU-27 countries with similar preference patterns using published EQ-5D-5L value sets. METHODS Hierarchical agglomerative clustering was employed on 13 EU-27 countries' EQ-5D-5L value sets, first analyzing regression coefficients for each dimension-level and then creating a simulated coefficient distribution considering uncertainty. FINDINGS Five clusters of EU-27 countries emerged: (1) Belgium, Netherlands, Sweden, Germany); (2) Hungary, Italy, Portugal; (3) Poland, Romania; (4) France, Spain; (5) Denmark, Ireland. All clusters except cluster 5 gave higher importance to "Pain and Discomfort"; all clusters except cluster 1 gave less importance to "Usual Activities". "Anxiety and Depression" and "Pain and Discomfort" had the largest heterogeneity in valuation across severity level. INTERPRETATION Identified clusters of countries with distinct health preferences provide insights for health policy transferability in the EU. Recognizing countries with similar health preferences can aid EU policymaking and transferability efforts, particularly in early-stage policymaking, while also fostering closer collaboration on health policy decisions and best practice sharing. Further development of national value sets within the EU is necessary for a more accurate representation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The EuroQol Valuation Technology (EQ-VT) protocol, which is used to value the EQ-5D-5L instrument, comprises a composite time trade-off and a discrete choice experiment (DCE) module. Despite significant limitations, the DCE module has not been updated since its inception in 2012. This study aimed to update the EQ-VT DCE design using state-of-the-art methods. METHODS DCE data from 19 EQ-5D-5L valuation studies were summarized using a Bayesian hierarchical meta-analysis model, which created the priors for our Bayesian efficient DCE design. This design comprised 20 subdesigns, each with 12 choice tasks, and included 2 levels that overlapped to reduce the complexity of the choice tasks. The relative efficiency and robustness of the new design were established by comparing the D-errors and minimal sample size requirements for the 19 within-sample and 7 out-of-sample countries with the previous DCE design. RESULTS The updated DCE design shows large reductions in the D-error: by 20% and 22% for the 19 within-sample and 7 out-of-sample countries, respectively. Sample size requirements were also reduced, resulting in an average reduction of 45% for both the within and out-of-sample countries. CONCLUSIONS The updated DCE design outperforms the current EQ-VT design. Given its enhanced performance and reduced complexity, it is set to replace the existing DCE design in future EQ-5D-5L valuation studies using the EQ-VT protocol.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES We aim to compare the measurement properties of three indirect (EQ-5D-5L, PROPr, SF-6D) and one direct (time trade-off, TTO) utility assessment methods in patients with chronic skin diseases. METHODS 120 patients with physician-diagnosed chronic skin diseases (psoriasis 39%, atopic dermatitis 27%, acne 19%) completed a cross-sectional survey. Respondents completed the EQ-5D-5L, PROMIS-29+2 and SF-36v1 questionnaires and a 10-year TTO task for own current health. Utilities were computed using the US value sets. Ceiling, convergent and known-group validity were compared across the utilities derived with these four methods. Known-groups were defined based on general, physical and mental health. The agreement between utilities was assessed using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC). RESULTS Mean utilities for the EQ-5D-5L, PROPr, SF-6D and TTO were 0.79, 0.47, 0.76 and 0.89. In corresponding order, the ceiling was 28%, 0%, 2% and 65%. The SF-6D showed excellent agreement with the EQ-5D-5L (ICC = 0.770). PROPr demonstrated poor agreement with the EQ-5D-5L (ICC = 0.381) and fair with SF-6D utilities (ICC = 0.445). TTO utilities showed poor agreement with indirectly assessed utilities (ICC = 0.058-0.242). The EQ-5D-5L better discriminated between known groups of general and physical health, while the SF-6D and PROPr outperformed the EQ-5D-5L for mental health problems. CONCLUSION There is a great variability in utilities across the four methods in patients with chronic skin conditions. The EQ-5D-5L, despite its higher ceiling, appears to be the most efficient in discriminating between patient groups for physical health aspects. Our findings inform the choice of instrument for quality-adjusted life year calculations in cost-utility analyses.

Abstract
PURPOSE Although population norms of the EQ-5D-3L instrument had been available in Hungary since 2000, their evaluation was based on a United Kingdom (UK) value set. Our objective was to estimate the population norms for EQ-5D-3L by using the new Hungarian value set available since 2020, to extend the scope to adolescents, and to compare with norms from 2000. METHODS A cross sectional EQ-5D-3L survey representative of the Hungarian population was conducted in 2022. The EQ-5D-3L dimensional responses were analyzed by age and sex and compared with the survey from 2000, by estimating population frequencies with their 95% confidence intervals; index values were evaluated by both value sets. RESULTS Altogether, 11,910 respondents, aged 12 or more (578 between 12 and 17), completed the EQ-5D-3L. There was a notable improvement in reporting problems for both sexes (age 35-64) regarding the pain/discomfort and anxiety/depression compared to 2000. Below the age 44, both sexes had an EQ-5D-3L index plateau of 0.98, while above the age 55, men tended to have numerically higher index values compared to women, with the difference increasing with older age. Improvement in dimensional responses were also translated to numerically higher index values for both sexes between ages 18 and 74 compared to 2000. Multivariate regression analysis showed that higher educational attainment, lower age, larger household size, and active occupational status were associated with higher index values. CONCLUSION Over the past 22 years, there was a large improvement in HRQoL of the middle-aged to elderly men and women in Hungary.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to develop population norms for three preference-accompanied measures [EQ-5D-5L, Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS)-preference scoring system (PROPr) and Short-Form Six-Dimension (SF-6D)] in Hungary. METHODS In November 2020, an online cross-sectional survey was conducted among a representative sample of the Hungarian adult general population (n = 1631). Respondents completed the Hungarian versions of the EQ-5D-5L, PROMIS-29+2 version 2.1 and 36-item Short Form Survey version 1 (SF-36v1). The association of utilities with sociodemographic and health-related characteristics of respondents was analysed using multivariate regressions. RESULTS The proportion of respondents reporting problems ranged from 8 to 44% (self-care to pain/discomfort) on the EQ-5D-5L, 39-94% (physical function to sleep) on PROPr and 38-87% (role limitations to vitality) on the SF-6D. Problems related to physical function, self-care, usual activities/role limitations and pain increased with age, while mental health problems decreased in all three measures. In almost all corresponding domains, respondents indicated the fewest problems on the EQ-5D-5L and the most problems on the SF-6D. The mean EQ-5D-5L, PROPr and SF-6D utilities were 0.900, 0.535 and 0.755, respectively. Female gender (PROPr, SF-6D), a lower level of education (EQ-5D-5L, PROPr), being unemployed or a disability pensioner (EQ-5D-5L), being underweight or obese (SF-6D), lack of physical exercise (all) and polypharmacy (all) were associated with significantly lower utilities. PROPr yielded the lowest and EQ-5D-5L the highest mean utilities in 28 of 30 chronic health conditions. CONCLUSIONS This study presents the first set of Hungarian population norms for the EQ-5D-5L, PROPr and SF-6D. Our findings can serve as reference values in clinical trials and observational studies and contribute to the monitoring of population health and the assessment of disease burden in Hungary.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To estimate a Saudi-specific value set for the EQ-5D-5L questionnaire using the EuroQol Valuation Technology program and the EuroQol Group's standard protocol. METHODS Participants were quota-sampled from the Saudi adult population based on residency location, age group, gender, education level, and employment status. The participants were guided through the completion of composite time trade-off (cTTO) and discrete choice experiment (DCE) tasks by trained interviewers using EuroQol Valuation Technology software. Quality control (QC) measures were used to ensure good data quality. Random intercept and Tobit models analyzed the cTTO data, as well as models correcting for heteroskedasticity. DCE data were analyzed using conditional logit models, whereas hybrid models were used to analyze the cTTO and DCE data jointly. To evaluate model performance, prediction accuracy, logical consistency, significance level, and goodness of fit were used. RESULTS The valuation study included a representative sample of the Saudi population (N = 1000). The hybrid heteroskedastic model without a constant was chosen as the preferred model for generating the value set. The predicted values ranged from -0.683 for the worst health state ("55555") to 1 for the full health state ("11111"). Pain and discomfort had the largest impact on health-state preference values, whereas usual activities had the least. CONCLUSION The value set for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the first value set for the EQ-5D-5L for any country in the Middle East. The value set can be used in Saudi health system economic evaluations and decision making.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the health-related quality of life (HR-QoL), work productivity and activity impairment and associated factors among patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM). METHODS This was an observational, cross-sectional study. The 189 ambulatory patients with IIM were recruited from May 2019 to May 2022. HR-QoL was measured by the European Quality of Life 5-Dimension (EQ-5D) questionnaire. The Work Productivity and Activity Impairment (WPAI) questionnaire was used to evaluate work productivity and activity impairment. The IIM-related parameters were assessed by the 8-item Manual Muscle Test (MMT-8), Myositis Disease Activity Assessment visual analogue scale (MYOACT), Myositis Damage Index (MDI), Disease Activity Score (DAS) and Physician/Patient Global Assessment (PhGA/PtGA). Quantile regression and ordinal logistic regression were performed to identify the factors, considering EQ-5D or WPAI scores as dependent variables, respectively. RESULTS Of the 189 IIM patients enrolled, 60% had DM, 13% had PM and 27% had clinical amyopathic DM. The median EQ-5D score was 1.00 (95% CI 0.73, 1.00), 28% were employed and 45% of overall work was impaired due to health problems. EQ-5D values were positively associated with MMT-8 and negatively with MYOACT, DAS, MDI-global and PhGA/PtGA. For the WPAI, activity impairment was associated with a lower MMT-8 score, older onset age and higher PhGA only in 25th-75th percentile. Increased PtGA was associated with increased activity and overall working productivity impairment in most quantiles (P<0.05). CONCLUSION Multiple disease characteristics were associated with reduced HR-QoL or working productivity impairment in patients with IIM, especially for PtGA.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to assess social preferences for two different advanced digital health technologies and investigate the contextual dependency of the preferences. METHODS A cross-sectional online survey was performed among the general population of Hungary aged 40 years and over. Participants were asked to imagine that they needed a total hip replacement surgery and to indicate whether they would prefer a traditional or a robot-assisted (RA) hip surgery. To better understand preferences for the chosen method, the willingness to pay (WTP) method was used. The same assessment was conducted for preferences between a radiologist's and AI-based image analysis in establishing the radiological diagnosis of a suspected tumour. Respondents' electronic health literacy was assessed with the eHEALS questionnaire. Descriptive methods were used to assess sample characteristics and differences between subgroups. Associations were investigated with correlation analysis and multiple linear regressions. RESULTS Altogether, 1400 individuals (53.7% female) with a mean age of 58.3 (SD = 11.1) years filled in the survey. RA hip surgery was chosen by 762 (54.4%) respondents, but only 470 (33.6%) chose AI-based medical image evaluation. Those who opted for the digital technology had significantly higher educational levels and electronic health literacy (eHEALS). The majority of respondents were willing to pay to secure their preferred surgical (surgeon 67.2%, robot-assisted: 68.8%) and image assessment (radiologist: 70.9%; AI: 77.4%) methods, reporting similar average amounts in the first (p = 0.677), and a significantly higher average amount for radiologist vs. AI in the second task (p = 0.001). The regression showed a significant association between WTP and income, and in the hip surgery task, it also revealed an association with the type of intervention chosen. CONCLUSIONS Individuals with higher education levels seem to accept the advanced digital medical technologies more. However, the greater openness for RA surgery than for AI image assessment highlights that social preferences may depend considerably on the medical situation and the type of advanced digital technology. WTP results suggest rather firm preferences in the great majority of the cases. Determinants of preferences and real-world choices of affected patients should be further investigated in future studies.

Abstract
Hypoparathyroidism (HypoPT) is a rare disease, often inadequately controlled by conventional treatment. PARALLAX was a mandatory post-marketing trial assessing pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of different dosing regimens of recombinant human parathyroid hormone 1-84 (rhPTH[1-84]) for treating HypoPT. The present study (NCT03364738) was a phase 4, 1-yr open-label extension of PARALLAX. Patients received only 2 doses of rhPTH(1-84) in PARALLAX and were considered treatment-naive at the start of the current study. rhPTH(1-84) was initiated at 50 μg once daily, with doses adjusted based on albumin-corrected serum calcium levels. Albumin-corrected serum calcium (primary outcome measure), health-related quality of life (HRQoL), adverse events, and healthcare resource utilization (HCRU) were assessed. The mean age of the 22 patients included was 50.0 yr; 81.8% were women, and 90.9% were White. By the end of treatment (EOT), 95.5% of patients had albumin-corrected serum calcium values in the protocol-defined range of 1.88 mmol/L to the upper limit of normal. Serum phosphorus was within the healthy range, and albumin-corrected serum calcium-phosphorus product was below the upper healthy limit throughout, while mean 24-h urine calcium excretion decreased from baseline to EOT. Mean supplemental doses of calcium and active vitamin D were reduced from baseline to EOT (2402-855 mg/d and 0.8-0.2 μg/d, respectively). Mean serum bone turnover markers, bone-specific alkaline phosphatase, osteocalcin, procollagen type I N-terminal propeptide, and type I collagen C-telopeptide increased 2-5 fold from baseline to EOT. The HCRU, disease-related symptoms and impact on HRQoL improved numerically between baseline and EOT. Nine patients (40.9%) experienced treatment-related adverse events; no deaths were reported. Treatment with rhPTH(1-84) once daily for 1 yr improved HRQoL, maintained eucalcemia in 95% of patients, normalized serum phosphorus, and decreased urine calcium excretion. The effects observed on urine calcium and the safety profile are consistent with previous findings. Clinical trial identifier NCT03364738.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES 15D is a generic preference-accompanied health status measure covering a wide range of health areas, including sensory functions. The aim of this study was to establish population norms for the 15D instrument in Hungary. METHODS 2000 members of the Hungarian adult general population participated in an online cross-sectional survey in August 2021. The sample was broadly representative in terms of gender, age groups, highest level of education, geographical region, and settlement type. Index values were derived using the Norwegian 15D value set. In addition to providing population norms, mean index values were computed for 32 physical and 24 mental health condition groups. RESULTS Most respondents (78.7%) reported problems in at least one 15D domain. The most problems were reported with sleeping (50.7%), followed by vitality (49.2%), distress (43.6%), discomfort and symptoms (31.2%), depression (31.1%), sexual activities (29.6%), breathing (28.1%), and vision (27.8%). The mean 15D index value was 0.810. With advancing age categories, the 15D index values showed an inverse U-shaped curve. Generally, mean index values in respondents with mental health conditions were lower [range 0.299 (post-traumatic stress disorder) to 0.757 (smoking addiction)] than those of respondents with physical conditions [range 0.557 (liver cirrhosis) to 0.764 (allergies)]. CONCLUSIONS This study provided 15D population norms of the Hungarian general population; furthermore, this is the first study to provide population norms for the 15D in any country. The values established in this study can serve as benchmarks for evaluating efficacy outcomes in clinical trials, quantifying disease burden and identifying unmet needs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Two bolt-on dimensions (skin irritation, self-confidence) have been developed for the EQ-5D-5L to improve its content validity and responsiveness in psoriasis. However, the two bolt-ons are not strictly psoriasis-specific and are potentially relevant in other skin conditions. This study aims to explore the content validity of the EQ-5D-5L with two bolt-ons in patients with atopic dermatitis (AD). METHODS In 2021-2022, qualitative, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 20 adult AD patients at a university dermatology clinic in Hungary. We aimed for a heterogeneous sample in terms of age, gender, education and disease severity. Patients completed the EQ-5D-5L with two bolt-ons using a think-aloud protocol. Probing questions were posed to investigate item relevance, potential conceptual overlaps, missing concepts and the appropriateness of the recall period. Interview transcripts were subjected to thematic analysis. RESULTS The EQ-5D-5L with the two bolt-ons covered the most important aspects of health-related quality of life in AD patients. Most patients found both the skin irritation and self-confidence bolt-ons relevant. Fifteen potential missing concepts were identified, but only two (social relationships, judgement by others) were identified by more than one patient. A smaller conceptual overlap was found between the skin irritation and pain/discomfort dimensions in 7 patients (35%). Half the patients expressed a preference for a recall period of 1 week rather than of 'today'. CONCLUSIONS The EQ-5D-5L with skin irritation and self-confidence bolt-ons showed good relevance, comprehensiveness and comprehensibility in patients with AD. However, in terms of comprehensiveness, social relationships and judgement by others (stigma) may be missing from the questionnaire.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Time perspective (TP) is a psychological construct that is associated with several health-related behaviours, including healthy eating, smoking and adherence to medications. In this study, we aimed to examine the associations of TP profile with self-reported health on the EQ-5D-5L and to detect which domains display response heterogeneity (cut-point shift) for TP. METHODS We conducted a secondary analysis of EQ-5D-5L data from a representative general population sample in Hungary (n = 996). The 17-item Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory was used to measure individuals' TP on five subscales: past-negative, past-positive, present-fatalist, present-hedonist and future. The associations between TP subscales and EQ-5D-5L domain scores, EQ VAS and EQ-5D-5L index values were analysed by using partial proportional odds models and multivariate linear regressions. RESULTS Respondents that scored higher on the past-negative and present-fatalist and lower on the present-hedonist and future subscales were more likely to report more health problems in at least one EQ-5D-5L domain (p < 0.05). Adjusting for socio-economic and health status, three EQ-5D-5L domains exhibited significant associations with various TP subscales (usual activities: present-fatalist and future, pain/discomfort: past-negative and future, anxiety/depression: past-negative, present-fatalist, present-hedonist and future). The anxiety/depression domain showed evidence of cut-point shift. CONCLUSIONS This study identified response heterogeneity stemming from psychological characteristics in self-reported health on the EQ-5D-5L. TP seems to play a double role in self-reported health, firstly as affecting underlying health and secondly as a factor influencing one's response behavior. These findings increase our understanding of the non-health-related factors that affect self-reported health on standardized health status measures.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although both EQ-5D-3L(3L) and EQ-5D-5L(5L) have demonstrated good measurement properties in several patient populations, there is currently limited evidence comparing the measurement properties of 3L and 5L in family caregivers (FCs) of cancer patients. PURPOSE This study aimed to compare the measurement properties of 3L and 5L in a sample of family caregivers of cancer patients. METHODS A consecutive sample of FCs of cancer patients recruited from three tertiary hospitals were invited to complete the two versions of the EQ-5D in two rounds of interviews. We compared i) the ceiling effect using the McNemar's test, ii) test-retest reliability using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Cohen's Kappa, iii) convergent validity using Spearman's rank correlation coefficient, iv) known-group validity using F-statistic, v) and discriminant capacity using ordinal logistic regression. RESULTS A total of 416 FCs completed the baseline questionnaire and 120 caregivers completed the follow-up questionnaire. Ceiling effects were smaller in 5L (12.5%) than in 3L (20.7%). The convergent validity (r = 0.344-0.771), known-groups validity (Fratio5L/3L = 2.06-4.09), discriminant capacity (ES = 0.341-0.396), and test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.725) of the 5L were slightly better than those of the 3L in China. CONCLUSION The current study found both 3L and 5L to be suitable for use by FCs of cancer patients. However, 5L showed superior measurement properties compared to 3L and therefore could be the preferred instrument when EQ-5D data of cancer patients FCs is required.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of this valuation study was to produce a value set to support the use of EQ-5D-5L data in decision making in Slovenia. METHODS The study design followed the published EuroQol research protocol, and a quota sample was defined according to age, sex, and region. Overall, 1012 adult respondents completed 10 time trade-off and seven discrete choice experiment tasks in face-to-face interviews. The Tobit model was used to analyse the composite time trade-off (cTTO) data in order to generate values for the 3125 EQ-5D-5L health states. RESULTS The data showed logical consistency, with more severe states being given lower values. The greatest disutility was shown in the pain/discomfort and anxiety/depression dimensions. In the EQ-5D-5L value set, the values range from -1.09 to 1. With the exception of UA5 (unable to perform usual activities), all other levels on all health dimensions were statistically different from 0 and from each other. Compared with the existing EQ-5D-3L value set, there is a slightly lower share of 'worse than dead' states (32.1% compared with 33.7%) and the minimum value is lower. CONCLUSIONS Results have important implications for users of the EQ-5D-5L in Slovenia and regions. It is a robust and up-to-date value set and should be the preferred value set used in adults in Slovenia and in neighbouring countries without their own value set.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To utilize EQ-5D in economic evaluations, a societal-based value set is needed. To date, no value sets exist for any EQ-5D instrument in Pakistan. Previous EQ-5D studies conducted in Pakistan 'borrowed' health preferences developed in other countries. However, for a value set to be valid for Pakistani population, it should represent the preferences of the Pakistani population, and culture and living standards of Pakistan. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to derive a Pakistani EQ-5D-3L value set. METHODS A moderately representative sample aged 18 years and over was recruited from the Pakistani general population. A multi-stage stratified quota method with respect to ethnicity, gender, age and religion was utilized. Two elicitation techniques, the composite time trade-off (cTTO) and discrete choice experiments (DCE) were applied. Interviews were undertaken by trained interviewers using computer-assisted face-to-face interviews with the EuroQol Portable Valuation Technology (EQ-PVT) platform. To estimate the value set, a hybrid regression model combining cTTO and DCE data was used. RESULTS A total of 289 respondents who completed the interviews were included for the analysis. The hybrid model correcting for heteroskedasticity without a constant was selected as the final model for the value set. It is shown that being unable to do usual activities (level 3) was assigned the largest weight, followed by mobility level 3, self-care level 3, pain/discomfort level 3 and anxiety/depression level 3. The worst health state was assigned the value - 0.171 in the final model. CONCLUSIONS A Pakistani country-specific EQ-5D-3L value set is now available. The availability of this value set may help promote and facilitate health economic evaluations and health-related quality-of-life (HRQoL) research in Pakistan.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cost-of-illness studies are widely used for healthcare decision-making in chronic conditions. Our aim was to assess the cost-of-illness of adult atopic dermatitis (AD) from the societal perspective in Hungary. METHODS We conducted a multicentre, cross-sectional questionnaire survey between February 2018 and January 2021. Data was collected from consecutive AD patients aged ≥ 18 years and their physicians at dermatology departments in Hungary. We calculated direct and indirect costs, including costs for treatments, outpatient visits, hospital admissions, informal care, travel costs and productivity loss. To assess indirect costs, the Work Productivity and Activity Impairment (WPAI) questionnaire was used to collect data, and costs were estimated with the human capital approach. Generalized linear model was used to analyse predictors of total, direct and indirect costs. RESULTS Altogether 218 patients completed the survey (57.8% female) with an average age of 31.3 (SD = 11.7). Patients' average Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) score was 13.5 (SD = 8.5). According to Eczema Area and Severity Index (EASI) score, 2.3% (n = 5), 21.2% (n = 46), 54.4% (n = 118) and 22.1% (n = 48) had clear, mild, moderate, and severe AD, respectively. We found that the average total, direct medical, direct non-medical and indirect annual costs per patients were €4,331, €1,136, €747, and €2450, respectively, with absenteeism and presenteeism being the main cost drivers, accounting for 24% and 29% of the total cost of AD. A one-year longer disease duration led to, on average, 1.6%, and 4.2% increase in total and direct non-medical costs, respectively. Patients with worse health-related quality of life (higher DLQI score) had significantly higher total, direct medical, direct non-medical costs, and indirect costs. CONCLUSIONS Our results indicate a substantial economic burden of AD from a societal perspective, mainly driven by productivity losses.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION There is evidence from previous studies that adults value paediatric health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and adult HRQoL differently. Less is known about how adolescents value paediatric HRQoL and whether their valuation and decision-making processes differ from those of adults. Discrete choice experiments (DCEs) are widely used to develop value sets for measures of HRQoL, but there is still much to understand about whether and how the methods choices in the implementation of DCE valuation tasks, such as format, presentation and perspective, affect the decision-making process of participants. This paper describes the protocol for a qualitative study that aims to explore the decision-making process of adults and adolescents when completing DCE valuation tasks. The study will also explore the impact of methodological choices in the design of DCE studies (including decisions about format and presentation) on participants' thinking process. METHODS AND ANALYSIS An interview protocol has been developed using DCE valuation tasks. Interviews will be conducted online via Zoom with both an adolescent and adult sample. In the interview, the participant will be asked to go through some DCE valuation tasks while 'thinking aloud'. After completion of the survey, participants will then be asked some predetermined questions in relation to various aspects of the DCE tasks. Interviews will be recorded and transcribed and analysed using a thematic analysis approach. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Ethics approval for this study has been received for the adult sample (UTS ETH20-9632) as well as the youth sample (UTS ETH22-6970) from the University of Technology Sydney Human Research Ethics Committee. Results from this study will inform the methods to be used in development of value sets for use in the health technology assessment of paediatric interventions and treatments. Findings from this study will also be disseminated through national/international conferences and peer-reviewed journals.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The majority of patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) don't have population norms in Romania. This is the case with the EQ-5D as well. Therefore, we aimed to estimate population norms for the Romanian versions of the EQ-5D-5L, EQ-5D-3L, their indexes, and the EQ-VAS. METHODS A cross-sectional survey was conducted in all regions of Romania from November 2018 to November 2019. A three-stage probability sampling procedure stratified by region and settlement size was used to select a representative sample. Interviews were computer-assisted and conducted in respondents' homes by trained interviewers. Health status was assessed with the EQ-5D-5L, the EQ-5D-3L and the EQ VAS. Descriptive statistics were used to estimate population norms by age groups and sex for the EQ-5D-5L, the EQ-5D-3L, their indexes and the EQ VAS. Population norms were weighted using survey weights. Indexes for the EQ-5D questionnaires were estimated using the recently developed Romanian value sets. RESULTS Data from 1,649 interviews was analysed in the present study. Survey weights were used so that sex and place of residence ratios for the weighted sample matched the Romanian general population distribution. Participants' mean age was 47.4 years (SE = 1.157) and 50.3% of them reported being in good health. The dimension for which people reported the highest number of problems for both questionnaires was the pain/discomfort dimension. Men aged 35 plus reported fewer problems with pain/discomfort than women for both the EQ-5D-5L and EQ-5D-3L. Health decreased with age as shown by the decrease from age group 18-24 to age group 75 plus in the indexes of both questionnaires: from 0.977 (SE = 0.005) to 0.765 (SE = 0.017) for EQ-5D-5L and from 0.981 (SE = 0.005) to 0.784 (SE = 0.019) for EQ-5D-3L. There was 29.9 points drop in the EQ VAS score between the youngest and oldest group. CONCLUSIONS Population norms for the Romanian versions of the EQ-5D-5L, EQ-5D-3L, their indexes, and the EQ VAS are now available. These can now be used as reference values by healthcare professionals, researchers and decision-makers leading to a further development of health-related quality of life research in Romania.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES We aimed to compare measurement properties of the 5-level version of EQ-5D (EQ-5D-5L) and 2 Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) short forms, PROMIS-29+2 and PROMIS Global Health (PROMIS-GH-10), and of EQ-5D-5L and PROMIS-preference scoring system (PROPr) utilities. METHODS A cross-sectional survey was conducted in a general population sample in Hungary (N = 1631). We compared the following measurement properties at the level of items, domains, and utilities, the latter using corresponding US value sets: ceiling and floor, informativity (Shannon's indices), agreement, convergent, and known-group validity. For the analyses, PROMIS items/domains were matched to EQ-5D-5L domains that cover similar concepts of health. RESULTS The majority of PROMIS items showed enhanced distributional characteristics, including lower ceilings and higher informativity than the EQ-5D-5L. Good convergent validity was established between EQ-5D-5L and PROMIS domains capturing similar aspects of health. Mean EQ-5D-5L utilities were substantially higher than those of PROPr (0.864 vs 0.535). EQ-5D-5L utilities correlated moderately or strongly with PROPr (r = 0.61), PROMIS-GH-10 physical (r = 0.68), and mental health summary scores (r = 0.53). EQ-5D-5L utilities decreased with age, whereas PROPr utilities slightly increased with age. EQ-5D-5L utilities discriminated significantly better in 12/28 (ratio of F-statistics) and 18/26 (area under the receiver-operating characteristics curve ratio) known groups defined by age, self-perceived health status, and self-reported physician-diagnosed health conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, coronary heart disease, chronic kidney disease, and stroke. CONCLUSIONS This study provides comparative evidence on the measurement properties of EQ-5D-5L, PROMIS-29+2, and PROMIS-GH-10 and informs decisions about the choice of instruments in population health surveys for assessment of patients' health and for cost-utility analyses.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Coeliac disease (CD) is a life-long food-related disorder with a global prevalence of approximately 1%. Patients with CD often experience reduced health-related quality of life that could improve with a strict adherence to a gluten-free diet (GFD). OBJECTIVES To obtain visual analogue scale (VAS), time trade-off (TTO) and willingness-to-pay (WTP) values amongst patients with CD. METHODS In 2020-2021, a cross-sectional online survey was conducted amongst 312 adult CD patients in Hungary. Patients completed the Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale (GSRS) and evaluated their current health and three hypothetical health state vignettes defined based on dietary adherence using VAS, conventional 10-year TTO and WTP. Multivariate regressions were used to explore the effect of patients' demographic and clinical characteristics on utility and WTP values. RESULTS Mean VAS values for current health and 'CD with strict adherence to GFD', 'CD with loose adherence to GFD' and 'CD without GFD' hypothetical health states were 79.69 ± 18.52, 85.36 ± 16.18, 62.44 ± 19.91 and 36.69 ± 25.83, respectively. Corresponding mean TTO utilities were: 0.90 ± 0.19, 0.91 ± 0.20, 0.87 ± 0.23 and 0.76 ± 0.29. Mean annual WTP values for returning to full health were: €845 ± 1077, €648 ± 1002, €862 ± 1135 and €1251 ± 1496. Older age at diagnosis, male sex, more severe gastrointestinal symptoms (GSRS) and having comorbidities were associated with lower VAS and TTO or higher WTP values for current own health (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION This is the first study to report TTO utilities for CD health states. Strict adherence to the GFD may result in substantial health gains in symptomatic patients. Utilities and WTP results can be used to estimate benefits of GFD in cost-utility and cost-benefit analyses.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We aimed to develop an EQ-5D-5L value set for Romania. METHODS In line with the EuroQoL standardized valuation protocol, computer-assisted interviews were conducted face-to-face in a representative sample in Romania (November 2018-November 2019). Valuation methods included composite time trade-off and discrete choice experiment tasks. Several models were tested, including models that accounted for data censoring, panel structure of the data, heteroscedasticity, conditional logit, and hybrid models. The final model was selected based on logical consistency, theoretical considerations, and use of all available data. We compared our value set with other value sets from Central and Eastern Europe region. RESULTS Data from 1493 respondents was used to estimate the value set. A censored hybrid model corrected for heteroscedasticity was selected to represent the value set. The highest decrements in utility were observed for the pain/discomfort dimension (0.375), followed by the mobility dimension (0.293). Health utilities ranged from 1.000 to - 0.323 and 1.3% of the values were negative. The model was corrected with survey weights to better reflect the representativeness of the sample, but the first two coefficients of the self-care dimension stopped being logically consistent. Differences were found between the Romanian, Hungarian and Polish EQ-5D-5L value sets. Good agreement was noted with the Romanian EQ-5D-3L value set, with a swap between pain/discomfort and mobility in ranking of dimensions. CONCLUSION A value set for EQ-5D-5L is now available for Romania. This will push one-step further the development of health technology assessment and encourage more health-related quality-of-life research to be conducted locally.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The EQ-5D-5L and 15D are generic preference-accompanied health status measures with similar dimensions. In this study, we aim to compare the measurement properties of the EQ-5D-5L and 15D descriptive systems and index values in a general population sample. METHODS In August 2021, an online cross-sectional survey was conducted in a representative adult general population sample (n = 1887). The EQ-5D-5L and 15D descriptive systems and index values were compared in terms of ceiling and floor, informativity (Shannon's Evenness index), agreement, convergent and known-groups validity for 41 chronic physical and mental health conditions. Danish value sets were used to compute index values for both instruments. As a sensitivity analysis, index values were also estimated using the Hungarian EQ-5D-5L and Norwegian 15D value sets. RESULTS Overall, 270 (8.6%) and 1030 (3.4*10-6%) unique profiles occurred on the EQ-5D-5L and 15D. The EQ-5D-5L dimensions (0.51-0.70) demonstrated better informativity than those of 15D (0.44-0.69). EQ-5D-5L and 15D dimensions capturing similar areas of health showed moderate or strong correlations (0.558-0.690). The vision, hearing, eating, speech, excretion and mental function 15D dimensions demonstrated very weak or weak correlations with all EQ-5D-5L dimensions, which may indicate potential room for EQ-5D-5L bolt-ons. The 15D index values showed lower ceiling than the EQ-5D-5L (21% vs. 36%). The mean index values were 0.86 for the Danish EQ-5D-5L, 0.87 for the Hungarian EQ-5D-5L, 0.91 for the Danish 15D and 0.81 for the Norwegian 15D. Strong correlations were found between the index values (Danish EQ-5D-5L vs. Danish 15D 0.671, Hungarian EQ-5D-5L vs. Norwegian 15D 0.638). Both instruments were able to discriminate between all chronic condition groups with moderate or large effect sizes (Danish EQ-5D-5L 0.688-3.810, Hungarian EQ-5D-5L 1.233-4.360, Danish 15D 0.623-3.018 and Norwegian 15D 1.064-3.816). Compared to the 15D, effect sizes were larger for the EQ-5D-5L in 88-93% of chronic condition groups. CONCLUSIONS This is the first study to compare the measurement properties of the EQ-5D-5L and 15D in a general population sample. Despite having 10 fewer dimensions, the EQ-5D-5L performed better than the 15D in many aspects. Our findings help to understand the differences between generic preference-accompanied measures and support resource allocation decisions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common chronic inflammatory skin disorder affecting up to 10% of adults. The EQ-5D is the most commonly used generic preference-accompanied measure to generate quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) for economic evaluations. OBJECTIVES We aimed to compare psychometric properties of the three-level and five-level EQ-5D (EQ-5D-3L and EQ-5D-5L) in adult patients with AD. METHODS In a multicentre cross-sectional study, 218 AD patients with a broad range of severity completed the EQ-5D-3L, EQ-5D-5L, Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and Skindex-16. Disease severity outcomes included the Investigator Global Assessment, Eczema Area and Severity Index and the objective SCORing Atopic Dermatitis. RESULTS A good agreement was established between the two EQ-5D versions with an intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.815 (95% CI 0.758-0.859, p < 0.001). Overall, 33 different health state profiles occurred in the EQ-5D-3L and 84 in the EQ-5D-5L. Compared to the EQ-5D-3L, ceiling effect was reduced for the mobility, self-care, usual activities and pain/discomfort dimensions by 4.6-11.5%. EQ-5D-5L showed higher average relative informativity (Shannon's evenness index: 0.64 vs. 0.59). EQ-5D-5L demonstrated better convergent validity with EQ VAS, DLQI and Skindex-16. The two measures were similar in distinguishing between groups of patients based on disease severity and skin-specific quality of life with a moderate or large effect size (η2 = 0.083-0.489). CONCLUSION Both instruments exhibited good psychometric properties in AD; however, the EQ-5D-5L was superior in terms of ceiling effects, informativity and convergent validity. We recommend the use of the EQ-5D-5L to measure health outcomes in clinical settings and for QALY calculations in AD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Country-specific value sets for the EQ-5D are available which reflect preferences for health states elicited from the general population. This allows the transformation of responses on EQ-5D to health state utility values. Only twelve European countries possess country-specific value sets and no value set reflecting the preferences of Europe exists. We aim to estimate a 'pan-European' value set for the EQ-5D-3L, reflecting the preferences for health states of the European population that could help to evaluate health care from the perspective of the European decision-maker. METHODS We systematically assessed and compared the methodologies of available EQ-5D-3L time trade-off (TTO) value sets from twelve European countries: Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain and UK. Using their published coefficients, a dataset with utility values for all 243 health states was simulated. Different modelling techniques and model specifications including interaction terms were tested. Model selection was based on goodness-of-fit criteria. We also explored results with application of population size weights. RESULTS Methodological, procedural and analytical characteristics of the included EQ-5D-3L valuation studies were quite comparable. An OLS based model was the preferred model to represent European preferences. Weighting with population size made little difference. CONCLUSIONS EQ-5D-3L valuation studies were considered of sufficient comparability to form the basis for a new 'pan-European' value set. The method used allows for an easy update when new national value sets become available.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study explored the impact of MTM service on MMD patients with hypertension. METHODS A total of 120 MMD inpatients from September to November 2019 were received and randomly divided into intervention group and control group. General services for noninfectious chronic diseases were given to the control group, while a standard MTM service was given to the intervention group. Patients' blood pressure, EQ-5D utility value, readmission rate, drug-related problems, and average daily medication therapy cost were compared between the two groups and within the groups. This was done at the initial admission phase and in the first, third, sixth, and twelfth months after discharge. RESULTS The intervention group had significantly lower blood pressure and average daily medication therapy cost 12 months after discharge compared to the control group (systolic blood pressure: P = 0.023, diastolic blood pressure: P < 0.001, average daily medication therapy cost: P = 0.049); the number of DRPs decreased in both groups 12 months after discharge; the number of DRPs solved in the intervention group in the third, sixth and twelfth months after discharge were statistically higher compared with that in the control group (P = 0.013, P = 0.012, P = 0.001); there was no significant difference in the EQ-5D utility value and readmission rate between the two groups (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS MTM implementation in MMD patients can improve health outcomes and reduce healthcare-related costs among MMD patients. Abstract
BACKGROUND Preference differences between countries and populations justify the use of country-specific value sets for the EQ-5D instruments. There are no clear criteria based on which the selection of value sets for countries without a national value set should be made. As part of the European PECUNIA project, this study aimed to identify factors contributing to differences in preference-based valuations and develop supra-national value sets for homogenous country clusters in Europe. METHODS A literature review was conducted to identify factors relevant to variations in the EQ-5D-3L/5L health state valuations across countries. Factors fulfilling the pre-specified criteria of validity, reliability, international feasibility and comparability were used to group 27 European Union member states, the European Free Trade Association countries and the UK. Clusters of countries were developed based on the frequency of their appearance in the same grouping. The supra-national value sets were estimated for these clusters from the coefficients of existing published valuation studies using the ordinary least-squares model. RESULTS Ten factors were identified from 69 studies. From these, five grouping variables: (1) culture and religion; (2) linguistics; (3) healthcare system typology; (4) healthcare system financing; and (5) sociodemographic aspects were derived to define the groups of homogenous countries. Frequency-based grouping revealed five cohesive clusters: English-speaking, Nordic, Central-Western, Southern and Eastern European. CONCLUSIONS European countries were clustered considering variables that may relate to differences in health state valuations. Supra-national value sets provide optimised proxy value set selection in the lack of a national value set and/or for regional decision making.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Hungarian health technology assessment guidelines recommend the use of the EuroQol instrument family in quality-adjusted life-year calculations. However, no national value set exists for the EQ-5D-Y-3L or any other youth-specific instrument. OBJECTIVE This study aims to develop a national value set of the EQ-5D-Y-3L for Hungary based on preferences of the general adult population. METHODS This study followed the international valuation protocol for the EQ-5D-Y-3L. Two independent samples, representative of the Hungarian general adult population in terms of age and sex were recruited to complete online discrete choice experiment (DCE) tasks and composite time trade-off (cTTO) tasks by computer-assisted personal interviews. Adults valued hypothetical EQ-5D-Y-3L health states considering the health of a 10-year-old child. DCE data were modelled using a mixed logit model with random-correlated coefficients. Latent DCE utility estimates were mapped onto mean observed cTTO utilities using ordinary least squares regression. RESULTS Overall, 996 and 200 respondents completed the DCE and cTTO surveys, respectively. For each domain, the value set resulted in larger utility decrements with more severe response levels. The relative importance of domains by level 3 coefficients was as follows: having pain or discomfort > feeling worried, sad or unhappy > mobility > doing usual activities > looking after myself. Overall, 12.3% of all health states had negative utilities in the value set, with the worst health state having the lowest predicted utility of - 0.485. CONCLUSION This study developed a national value set of the EQ-5D-Y-3L for Hungary. The value set enables to evaluate the cost utility of health technologies for children and adolescents based on societal preferences in Hungary.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The EQ-5D has 2 composite domains: pain/discomfort (PD) and anxiety/depression (AD). This study aims to explore how respondents use the composites to self-report health and what the meaning of discomfort is in the EQ-5D for the general public. METHODS Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected in an online cross-sectional survey involving a nationally representative general population sample in Hungary (n = 1700). Respondents completed the 5-level version of EQ-5D, followed by the composites split into individual subdomains. Open-ended questions were asked to explore respondents' interpretations and experiences of discomfort. RESULTS Six different response behaviors were identified in the composites: "uniform" (21%-32%), "most severe" (30%-34%), "least severe" (16%-23%), "average" (2%-4%), "synergistic" (4%-5%), and "inconsistent" (13%-15%). Compared with the individual subdomains, many respondents under-reported their problems on both composites (PD 16%-22% and AD 6%-13%, P < .05). In respondents who scored differently in the 2 separate domains, mainly problems with the first subdomain determined responses in the composites (PD 66% and AD 61%). The discomfort subdomain in the EQ-5D captured more than 100 different problems, including pain, nonpain physical discomfort (eg, tiredness, dizziness, and nausea), and psychological discomfort (eg, anxiety, nervousness, and sadness). Women, older adults, and those in worse general health status more often considered discomfort as pain (P < .05). CONCLUSIONS We found empirical evidence of measurement error in the composite responses on the EQ-5D, including under- and inconsistent reporting, ordering effects, potential differential item functioning, and interdomain dependency. Our findings contribute new knowledge to the development of new and refinement of existing self-reported health status instruments, also beyond the EQ-5D.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The standard EQ-5D-Y-3L valuation protocol applies DCE data as the primary preference source to model the relative importance of dimensions while cTTO data served to anchor the DCE coefficients onto the QALY scale. This study aims to estimate an EQ-5D-Y-3L value set for China following this protocol, but with a larger cTTO design to better understand the role of cTTO data in estimating EQ-5D-Y-3L value sets. METHODS In total, 150 choice sets and 28 EQ-5D-Y-3L health states were valued using DCE and cTTO methods with two independent samples, respectively. General public from 14 different regions were recruited using quota sampling method to achieve representativeness. We compared two modelling strategies: (1) fit the DCE data with mixed logit model with correlated coefficients and a subsequent mapping procedure for anchoring; (2) fit the DCE and TTO data jointly in a hybrid model. Two evaluation criteria (1) coefficient significance and monotonicity; (2) prediction accuracy of the observed cTTO values were used to select the value set. RESULTS In total, 1476 individuals participated in the study, with 1058 participated the DCE interview and 418 participated the cTTO interview. The highest mean TTO value was 0.924 for state 11112 and the lowest mean TTO value was - 0.088 for state 33333. The hybrid model with an A3 term performed the best and was selected as the value set. DISCUSSION Following the international protocol and using a larger cTTO design, this study established the EQ-5D-Y-3L value set using a hybrid model for China. Future EQ-5D-Y-3L valuation study could consider using a larger cTTO design for estimating the value set.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to establish a Belgian EQ-5D-5L value set based on the preferences of the adult Belgian general population. METHODS The most recent EuroQol Valuation Technology (EQ-VT 2.1) protocol for EQ-5D-5L valuation studies was followed. Computer-assisted personal interviews were carried out in a representative sample of the adult Belgian population. Potential respondents were randomly selected from the National Register using a multistage, stratified, cluster sampling with unequal probability design. Each respondent valued 10 or 11 health states using composite time trade-off (cTTO) and 14 health states in seven paired choice tasks using a discrete choice experiment (DCE). Different model specifications were explored and assessed based on logical consistency, goodness of fit, predictive accuracy and theoretical considerations. RESULTS A total of 892 respondents were included in the analyses. The sample was representative of the Belgian adult population in terms of age, sex, region of residence, educational attainment, labour market status, self-assessed health status and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The preferred model specification was a hybrid (DCE and cTTO data combined) multiplicative eight-coefficient model with intercept random effects and correction for heteroskedasticity. Values range from - 0.532 to 1. Loss of HRQoL is highest in the dimension pain/discomfort, closely followed by anxiety/depression. CONCLUSIONS This study developed a Belgian EQ-5D-5L value set, based on the preferences of the Belgian adult general population. It provides opportunities for future clinical and economic evaluations in healthcare, for the measurement of patient-reported outcomes and for population health assessments.

Abstract
Recently, due to the corona virus outbreak, pandemics and their effects have been at the forefront of the research agenda. However, estimates of the perceived value of early warning systems (EWSs) for identifying, containing, and mitigating outbreaks remain scarce. This paper aims to show how potential health gains due to an international EWS might be valued. This paper reports on a study into willingness to pay (WTP) in six European countries for health gains due to an EWS. The context in which health is gained, those affected, and the reduction in risk of contracting the disease generated by the EWS are varied across seven scenarios. Using linear regression, we analyse this 'augmented' willingness to pay for a QALY (WTP-Q) for each of the scenarios, where 'augmented' refers to the possible inclusion of context specific elements of value, such as feelings of safety. An initial WTP-Q estimate for the basic scenario is €17,400. This can be interpreted as a threshold for investment per QALY into an EWS. Overall, WTP estimates move in the expected directions (e.g. higher risk reduction leads to higher WTP). However, changes in respondents' WTP for reductions in risk were not proportional to the magnitude of the change in risk reduction. This study provided estimates of the monetary value of health gains in the context of a pandemic under seven scenarios which differ in terms of outcome, risk reduction and those affected. It also highlights the importance of future research into optimal ways of eliciting thresholds for investments in public health interventions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To determine the effects of age, immigrant background, and poor self-reported health in a general population sample on the probability of non-completion or slow completion of the time trade-off (TTO). METHODS We used data from an interrupted Norwegian EQ-5D-5L valuation study conducted between 2019 and 2020. All participants responded to background items, irrespective of completion. We used mixed effect logistic regression analysis to assess the effect of old age, poor health, and immigrant background on the probability of non-completion of the TTO, and, for those who completed the TTO, of slow completion times. RESULTS First experiences from a Norwegian valuation study were that 29 (5.5%) respondents failed to complete the TTO tasks. For those reporting age over 65 years, poor health, or an immigrant background, 12% failed to complete the TTO. Adjusted odds ratios for predictors of non-completion were statistically significant (age > 65 years, 8.3; EQ-VAS ≤ 50, 3.49; immigrant background, 4.56). Being over 65 years or with an immigrant background also predicted slow completion of both the introduction and TTO tasks. CONCLUSIONS High age, poor health, and immigrant status increased the risk of not being able to complete the TTO tasks, and of slow completion. Higher non-completion rates and increased completion times suggest that elements of the TTO may be demanding for some respondent groups, with possible implications for representativeness.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to evaluate the performance of machine learning and regression methods in the prediction of 3-level version of EQ-5D (EQ-5D-3L) index scores from a large diverse data set. METHODS A total of 30 studies from 3 countries were combined. Predictions were performed via eXtreme Gradient Boosting classification (XGBC), eXtreme Gradient Boosting regression (XGBR) and ordinary least squares (OLS) regression using 10-fold cross-validation and 80%/20% partition for training and testing. We evaluated 6 prediction scenarios using 3 samples (general population, patients, total) and 2 predictor sets: demographic and disease-related variables with/without patient-reported outcomes. Model performance was evaluated by mean absolute error and percent of predictions within clinically irrelevant error range and within correct health severity group (EQ-5D-3L index <0.45, 0.45-0.926, >0.926). RESULTS The data set involved 26 318 individuals (clinical settings n = 6214, general population n = 20 104) and 26 predictor variables plus diagnoses. Using all predictors and the total sample, mean absolute error values were 0.153, 0.126, and 0.131, percent of predictions within clinically irrelevant error range were 47.6%, 39.5%, and 37.4%, and within the correct health severity group were 56.3%, 64.9%, and 63.3% by XGBC, XGBR, and OLS, respectively. The performance of models depended on the applied evaluation criteria, the target population, the included predictors, and the EQ-5D-3L index score range. CONCLUSIONS Regression models (XGBR and OLS) outperformed XGBC, yet prediction errors were outside the clinically irrelevant error range for most respondents. Our results highlight the importance of systematic patient-reported outcome (EQ-5D) data collection. Dialogs between artificial intelligence and outcomes research experts are encouraged to enhance the value of accumulating data in health systems.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The international protocol for valuing EQ-5D-5L focuses upon prescribed preference elicitation methods and design. However, there are no recommendations around sampling, recruitment, data analysis or modelling to generate the EQ-5D-5L value set. This review examines methods used to generate international EQ-5D-5L values sets, across sampling, recruitment, data analysis, modelling, assessing model performance and selection of the recommended value set. METHODS All published EQ-5D-5L value sets were identified by a systematic search and confirmed by the EuroQol Group. Data were extracted to assess sampling, recruitment, preference elicitation techniques and design, data analysis, modelling, assessing model performance, and vale set selection. These are summarised in tables. RESULTS The review included 29 studies with 27 value sets generated using time-trade-off (TTO) data (n = 10) only or using a hybrid model that combines TTO and discrete choice experiment data (n = 17). TTO data were most commonly estimated using a heteroscedastic Tobit model with censoring at - 1, and the hybrid model using a specially created program. Model performance was generally assessed using goodness of fit, logical consistency and significance of coefficients, suitability of the model for the data characteristics and parsimony, though not all selected models account for the specific characteristics of the data. DISCUSSION Different assessments of model performance and reasoning are provided for the selection of the recommended value set for a country. This raises the question of valid criteria for selecting a recommended value set and whether this should rely upon researchers' recommendations when value sets are often used to inform public policy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Versus Arthritis Musculoskeletal Health Questionnaire (MSK-HQ) measures symptom severity and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of people with musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions. We aimed to test the psychometric properties of the MSK-HQ among the general adult population and identify the determinants of MSK-HQ states. In addition, we aimed to explore the relationship between MSK-HQ and standard well-being measurement tools. METHODS The translation proccess of the MSK-HQ into Hungarian followed the standard methods provided by the developer. A cross-sectional online survey was performed in Hungary involving a population normative sample (N = 2004, women: 53.1%; mean age: 48.3, SD = 16.6 years). Socio-demographic characteristics and self-reported MSK disorders were recorded. Alongside the MSK-HQ, standard measures of HRQoL (EQ-5D-5L), physical functioning (HAQ-DI) and well-being (ICECAP-A/O, WHO-5, Happiness VAS) were applied. Clinical and convergent validity were assessed by subgroup comparisons (Mann-Whitney-U and Kruskal-Wallis tests) and Spearman's rank correlations. Internal consistency was assessed by Cronbach's alpha. Test-retest reliability (N = 50) was evaluated by intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Predictors of MSK-HQ were analysed by ordinary least square multiple regressions. RESULTS The mean MSK-HQ index score was 44.1 (SD = 9.9). MSK-HQ scores were significantly lower in subgroups with self-reported MSK disorders. Correlations were strong between MSK-HQ and EQ-5D-5L (0.788), EQ VAS (0.644) and HAQ-DI (-0.698) and moderate with the well-being measures (p < 0.05). Cronbach's alpha was 0.924 and ICC was 0.936 (p < 0.05). Being a man, living in the capital, having higher income and education were positively associated with MSK-HQ scores. CONCLUSIONS This is the first study to prove the validity and reliability of the MSK-HQ among the general public. The impact of socio-demographic characteristics on MSK-HQ scores deserves consideration in clinical studies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aims to confirm validity and reliability of the Hungarian version of Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S) and evaluate its dimensional structure. METHODS Cross-sectional survey was carried out in 2021 among Hungarian general population. In addition to classical test theory methods, construct dimensionality of FCV-19S was assessed using EFA with principal axis factoring method and CFA with diagonally-weighted least squares estimation. Fear score was compared in age, gender, educational level, vaccination and infection subgroups. RESULTS Significant differences in FCV-19S mean scores were observed between three subgroups (age, gender, vaccination). Items showed good internal consistency (Cronbach α = 0.88). EFA identified two latent factors (eig = 4.2 and 1.02), though parallel analysis supports the one-factor model. The two-dimensional structure was confirmed by CFA, items 3,4,6,7 correlated with Factor 1 (physiological fear), items 1,2,5 with Factor 2 (emotional fear). CONCLUSION The Hungarian version of FCV-19S seems valid and reliable. The EFA identified two-latent factors (emotional and physiological fear), that was confirmed by CFA. The two-factor structure had better model fit, though its' acceptance is limited.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Using a standardized approach to describe the sources of uncertainty in cost-effectiveness analyses might bring added value to the local critical assessment procedure of reimbursement submissions in Hungary. The aim of this research is to present a procedural framework to identify, quantify and interpret sources of uncertainty, using the reimbursement dossier of darolutamide as an illustrative example. METHODS In the procedural framework designed for the critical assessment of cost-effectiveness analyses, the quantifiability of an identified source of uncertainty is assessed through the input parameters of the originally submitted model, which is followed by the interpretation of its impact on estimates of costs and outcomes compared to the base case cost-effectiveness conclusion. RESULTS Based on our experiences with the recent reimbursement dossier of darolutamide, the significant and quantifiable sources of uncertainty were the time horizon of the economic analysis; the restriction of the efficacy analysis population; long-term relative effectiveness of darolutamide; price discount on subsequent therapies. We identified resource use patterns for comparator and subsequent therapies as a quantifiable, yet non-significant source of uncertainty. The EQ-5D value set used to estimate utility values was identified as a non-quantifiable and potentially not significant source of uncertainty. CONCLUSIONS The procedural framework, demonstrated with an example, was sufficiently flexible and coherent to document and structure the sources of uncertainty in cost-effectiveness analyses. The full-scale use of this framework is desirable during the decision-making process for reimbursement in Hungary. The further formalization of identifying sources of uncertainty is a possible subject of methodological development.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Few studies have investigated health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) during the COVID-19 pandemic. OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study were to compare HRQoL in adult AD patients before and during the pandemic and to assess measurement performance of 4 HRQoL measures. METHODS Between 2018 and 2021, a multicenter, cross-sectional survey was conducted, involving 218 adult AD patients. Health-related quality of life outcomes included the EQ-5D-5L, Skindex-16, Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), and DLQI-Relevant (DLQI-R). Severity was measured using objective SCORing Atopic Dermatitis, Eczema Area and Severity Index, and Investigator Global Assessment. RESULTS The mean ± SD EQ-5D-5L utility, Skindex-16, DLQI, and DLQI-R scores were 0.82 ± 0.22, 56.84 ± 27.46, 13.44 ± 8.46, and 13.76 ± 8.60, respectively. The patients reported more problems during the pandemic (P < 0.05) regarding pain/discomfort (odds ratio [OR], 1.78), worrying (OR, 1.89), concerns about persistence/reoccurrence of disease (OR, 1.88), and social relationships (OR, 1.69). The HRQoL outcomes showed strong correlations with each other (range of rs, |0.69| to |0.99|). The Skindex-16, DLQI, and DLQI-R were able to discriminate between severity groups with large (η2 = 0.20-0.23), whereas the EQ-5D-5L with moderate effect sizes (η2 = 0.08-0.11). CONCLUSIONS Atopic dermatitis patients experienced significantly more problems in some areas of HRQoL during the pandemic. The EQ-5D-5L, Skindex-16, DLQI, and DLQI-R demonstrated good convergent and known-group validity and can be suitable instruments for HRQoL assessment in clinical and research settings.

Abstract
In Hungary, the National Health Insurance Fund provides health care coverage for nearly all residents, but healthcare spending is below the EU's average (6.4% versus 9.9% of the GDP in 2019, respectively). In 1997, patients' rights were established by laws of the healthcare system. The patients' voice, however, has remained weakly embedded in decision-making processes both on the system and individual patient levels. Policy progress achieved in the past years may foster patient-centeredness in health policy decision-making. However, people-reported data are not yet embedded in the Hungarian health information system and national population or household surveys, thus undermining the monitoring of the performance of the health system regarding patient-centred aspects. From the academic research side, several advances have occurred regarding the availability of validated instruments for the measurement of patient-centred aspects. These recent studies have placed Hungary in a uniquely advanced position compared with other countries in the Central and Eastern European (CEE) region. The use of those instruments in clinical guidelines and practices, to the education curricula of future health workers, is still in an early stage.

Abstract
Objective Two EQ-5D-3L (3L) value sets (developed in 2014 and 2018) co-exist in China. The study examined the level of agreement between index scores for all the 243 health states derived from them at both absolute and relative levels and compared the responsiveness of the two indices. Methods Intraclass correlations coefficient (ICC) and Bland–Altman plot were adopted to assess the degree of agreement between the two indices at the absolute level. Health gains for 29,403 possible transitions between pairs of 3L health states were calculated to assess the agreement at the relative level. Their responsiveness for the transitions was assessed using Cohen effect size. Results The mean (SD) value was 0.427 (0.206) and 0.649 (0.189) for the 3L2014 and 3L2018 index scores, respectively. Although the ICC value showed good agreement (i.e., 0.896), 88.9% (216/243) of the points were beyond the minimum important difference limit according to the Bland–Altman plot. The mean health gains for the 29,403 health transitions was 0.234 (3L2014 index score) and 0.216 (3L2018 index score). The two indices predicted consistent transitions in 23,720 (80.7%) of 29,403 pairs. For the consistent pairs, Cohen effective size value was 1.05 (3L2014 index score) or 1.06 (3L2018 index score); and the 3L2014 index score only yielded 0.007 more utility gains. However, the results based on the two measures varied substantially according to the direction and magnitude of health change. Conclusion The 3L2014 and 3L2018 index scores are not interchangeable. The choice between them is likely to influence QALYs estimations.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION No value sets exist for either the EQ-5D-3L or the EQ-5D-5L in Egypt, despite local pharmacoeconomic guidelines recommending the use of the EQ-5D to derive utility. Most published Egyptian economic evaluation studies have used utility values from other published studies and systematic reviews. OBJECTIVE Our objective was to develop an Egyptian EQ-5D-5L value set using the international EuroQol standardized protocol (EQ-VT-2.1). This study is a revision of a previous EQ-5D-5L value set for Egypt retracted by the authors. METHODS Adult Egyptian participants were recruited from public places using multi-stratified quota sampling based on age, sex, and geographical distribution. Two elicitation techniques were applied: the composite time trade-off (cTTO) and discrete-choice experiments (DCEs). Before actual data collection, interviewers' performance was assessed in a pilot phase. Data were modelled using generalized least squares, Tobit, heteroskedastic, logit, and hybrid models, and the best fitting model was selected based on logical consistency of the parameters, significance level, prediction accuracy, and model parsimony. RESULTS A total of 1378 interviews were conducted, of which 188 were excluded because they were incomplete and did not comply with the protocol, 216 were pilot interviews, and 974 were included in the final analysis. The heteroskedastic model with constraints (model 4) based on the cTTO data was selected as the preferred model to generate the value set. Values ranged from - 0.964 for the worst health state (55555) to 1 for full health (11111) and 0.948 for 11211, with 1123 of all predicted health states (35.94%) being worse than dead. Mobility had the largest impact on health state preference values. CONCLUSION This is the first value set for the EQ-5D-5L based on social preferences obtained from a nationally representative sample in Egypt or any Arabic-speaking country. The value set can be used as a scoring system for economic evaluation and to improve the quality of health technology assessment in the Egyptian healthcare system.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE A 'lite' version of the EQ-5D-5L valuation protocol, which requires a smaller sample by collecting more data from each participant, was proposed and used to develop an EQ-5D-5L value set for Uganda. METHODS Adult respondents from the general Ugandan population were quota sampled based on age and sex. Eligible participants were asked to complete 20 composite time trade-off tasks in the tablet-assisted personal interviews using the offline EuroQol Portable Valuation Technology software under routine quality control. No discrete choice experiment task was administered. The composite time trade-off data were modelled using four additive and two multiplicative regression models. Model performance was evaluated based on face validity, prediction accuracy in cross-validation and in predicting mild health states. The final value set was generated using the best-performing model. RESULTS A representative sample (N = 545) participated in this study. Responses to composite time trade-off tasks from 492 participants were included in the primary analysis. All models showed face validity and generated comparable prediction accuracy. The Tobit model with constrained intercepts and corrected for heteroscedasticity was considered the preferred model for the value set on the basis of better performance. The value set ranges from - 1.116 (state 55555) to 1 (state 11111) with 'pain/discomfort' as the most important dimension. CONCLUSIONS This is the first EQ-5D-5L valuation study using a 'lite' protocol involving composite time trade-off data only. Our results suggest its feasibility in resource-constrained settings. The established EQ-5D-5L value set for Uganda is expected to be used for economic evaluations and decision making in Uganda and the East Africa region.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES (1) To descriptively compare the selected elements of valuation methods for EQ-5D-5L value set studies, (2) to compare the characteristics of the value sets, and (3) to examine the associations between the selected elements of valuation methods and the EQ-5D-5L value sets. METHODS A systematic literature search of EQ-5D-5L valuation studies from 1 January 2009 to 22 April 2021 was conducted in selected databases. Following the initial search, we also explored additional studies published during the completion of the final version of the manuscript. Similarities and variations for selected elements of valuation methods were descriptively compared. The relative importance of dimensions, utility decrements between the levels, and distribution of the utility scores were used to compare value sets. A meta-regression analysis examined the associations between the selected methodological elements and the utility scores and dimension levels of EQ-5D-5L. RESULTS A total of 31 studies were included in this review. Methodological similarities centered around data collection and preference elicitation method. On the other hand, variations include sampling technique, sample size, and value set modeling. The variations in value sets based on the relative importance of dimension, decrement in utility score, and distribution of utility score across countries were observed. Although the distribution of the utility scores differed across countries, higher levels of each dimension tended to have a larger decrement in the utility scores. Mean utility scores for the experience-based value sets were higher than those estimated using stated choice methods. The selected methodological elements were not significantly associated with the mean predicted utility scores or most dimension-level coefficients. CONCLUSIONS EQ-5D-5L health state valuation methods and characteristics of value sets differed across studies. The impact of the variation of methodological elements on the value sets should be further investigated.
