Abstract
Shoulder pain is a highly prevalent musculoskeletal condition that frequently leads to suboptimal clinical outcomes. This study tested the extent to which circulating inflammatory biomarkers are associated with reports of shoulder pain and upper-extremity disability for a high-risk genetic by psychological subgroup (catechol-O-methyltransferase [COMT] variation by pain catastrophizing [PCS]). Pain-free adults meeting high-risk COMT × PCS subgroup criteria completed an exercise-induced muscle injury protocol. Thirteen biomarkers were collected and analyzed from plasma 48 hours after muscle injury. Shoulder pain intensity and disability (Quick-DASH) were reported at 48 and 96 hours to calculate change scores. Using an extreme sampling technique, 88 participants were included in this analysis. After controlling for age, sex, and BMI, there were moderate positive associations between higher c-reactive protein (CRP; βˆ = .62; 95% confidence interval [CI] = -.03, 1.26), interleukin-6 (IL-6; βˆ = 3.13; CI = -.11, 6.38), and interleukin-10 (IL-10; βˆ = 2.51; CI = -.30, 5.32); and greater pain reduction from 48 to 96 hours post exercise muscle injury. Using an exploratory multivariable model to predict pain changes from 48 to 96 hours, we found participants with higher IL-10 were less likely to experience a high increase in pain (βˆ = -10.77; CI = -21.25, -2.69). Study findings suggest CRP, IL-6, and IL-10 are related to shoulder pain change for a preclinical high-risk COMT × PCS subgroup. Future studies will translate to clinical shoulder pain and decipher the complex and seemingly pleiotropic interplay between inflammatory biomarkers and shoulder pain change. PERSPECTIVE: In a preclinical high-risk COMT × PCS subgroup, 3 circulating inflammatory biomarkers (CRP, IL-6, and IL-10) were moderately associated with pain improvement following exercise-induced muscle injury.

Abstract
Among cardiovascular diseases, chronic obliterating lesions of the arteries of lower extremities, which are one of the important problems of modern healthcare, are distinguished. In most cases, the cause of damage to the arteries of lower extremities is atherosclerosis. The most severe form is chronic ischemia, characterized by pain at rest and ischemic ulcers, ultimately increasing the risk of limb loss and cardiovascular mortality. Therefore, patients with critical limb ischemia need limb revascularization. Percutaneous transluminal balloon angioplasty is one of the least invasive and safe approaches, with advantages for patients with comorbidities. However, after this procedure, restenosis is still possible. Early detection of changes in the composition of some molecules as markers of restenosis will help screen patients at the risk of restenosis, as well as find ways to apply efforts for further directions of inhibition of this process. The purpose of this review is to provide the most important and up-to-date information on the mechanisms of restenosis development, as well as possible predictors of their occurrence. The information collected in this publication may be useful in predicting outcomes after surgical treatment and will also find new ways for the target implication to the mechanisms of development of restenosis and atherosclerosis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aims to develop and internally validate a prediction model, which takes account of multivariable and comprehensive factors to predict the prolonged length of stay (LOS) in patients with lower extremity atherosclerotic disease (LEAD). DESIGN This is a retrospective study. SETTING China. PARTICIPANTS, PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OUTCOMES Data of 1694 patients with LEAD from a retrospective cohort study between January 2014 and November 2021 were analysed. We selected nine variables and created the prediction model using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression model after dividing the dataset into training and test sets in a 7:3 ratio. Prediction model performance was evaluated by calibration, discrimination and Hosmer-Lemeshow test. The effectiveness of clinical utility was estimated using decision curve analysis. RESULTS LASSO regression analysis identified age, gender, systolic blood pressure, Fontaine classification, lesion site, surgery, C reactive protein, prothrombin time international normalised ratio and fibrinogen as significant predictors for predicting prolonged LOS in patients with LEAD. In the training set, the prediction model showed good discrimination using a 500-bootstrap analysis and good calibration with an area under the receiver operating characteristic of 0.750. The Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness of fit test for the training set had a p value of 0.354. The decision curve analysis showed that using the prediction model both in training and tests contributes to clinical value. CONCLUSION Our prediction model is a valuable tool using easily and routinely obtained clinical variables that could be used to predict prolonged LOS in patients with LEAD and help to better manage these patients in routine clinical practice.

Abstract
Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) has a strong relationship with inflammation. However, it is unclear whether the dietary inflammatory potential is associated with PAD. We aimed to address this knowledge gap. The dietary inflammatory index (DII) was obtained using a 24-h dietary recall interview for each individual. Logistic regression models and restricted cubic spline were performed to assess the relationship of DII with the prevalence of PAD. In addition, Spearman correlation analysis and subgroup analysis were also undertaken. In total, 5840 individuals from the 1999–2004 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) were enrolled in our study. Participants in higher DII quartile tended to have higher rates of PAD. The increase in DII scores showed a positive association with PAD after fully multivariate adjustment (OR (odds ratios) = 1.094, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.022–1.171). The multivariable-adjusted OR and 95% CI of the highest DII index quartile compared with the lowest quartile was 1.543 (95% CI: 1.116–2.133). Subgroup analysis demonstrated that the positive association between DII and PAD was persistent across population subgroups. In conclusion, we report that a proinflammatory dietary pattern is related to a higher risk of developing PAD among US adults.

Abstract
Peripheral artery disease is one of three major clinical manifestations of atherosclerosis, the other two being coronary artery and cerebrovascular disease. Despite progress in surgery, antithrombotic therapy and therapies that modify conventional risk factors (lipid-, blood pressure-, and glucose-lowering interventions), patients with peripheral artery disease have unacceptably high risk of vascular complications. Additional strategies to reduce this residual risk are needed. The accumulated evidence that inflammation plays an important role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis has spurred recent efforts to evaluate anti-inflammatory agents as an additional therapeutic approach for atherothrombosis prevention and treatment. In this review, we examine the evidence supporting the role of inflammation in atherosclerosis, review recent trials evaluating anti-inflammatory approaches to reduce cardiovascular complications, and offer insights into the opportunities for novel anti-inflammatory strategies to reduce the burden of cardiovascular and limb complications in patients with peripheral artery disease.
