Abstract
A novel hexadentate bishydrazone ligand, 1,10-bis(di(2-pyridyl)ketone) adipic acid dihydrazone (H2L1) is synthesized and characterized. With copper perchlorate as a catalytic oxidant, the ligand undergoes oxidative cyclisation and resulted in the formation of an unusual copper complex [Cu(L1a)2Cl]ClO4 (1), where L1a is 3-(2-pyridyl)triazolo[1,5-a]-pyridine. The Cu(II) complex was characterized physicochemically, while the molecular structure was confirmed by single crystal X- ray diffraction. In the complex cation, copper(II) is in a distorted trigonal bipyramidal coordination environment, surrounded by two triazolo nitrogen atoms and two pyridyl nitrogen atoms of L1a and a chloride atom. The relevant non covalent intermolecular interactions of the complex quantified using Hirshfeld surface analysis reveals that the O···H/ H···O (27.2%) contacts has the highest contribution. The solution phase bandgaps of the compounds were calculated using Tauc plot, whereas the solid-state band gaps were calculated by Kubelka-Munk model. DFT studies of the compounds indicate that the theoretical calculations corroborate with the experimental data. DPPH antioxidant activity assay of the synthesized compounds showed that the proligand H2L1 has a lower IC50 value (24.1 μM) than that of complex 1 (29.7 μM). The in vitro antibacterial activity was evaluated against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, which revealed that complex 1 have excellent activity against E. coli, much as the standard ciprofloxacin. The cytotoxic efficacy investigation of the compounds against A549 (lung) adenocarcinoma cells suggested that H2L1 has more anticancer activity (IC50 value of 149.08 μM) than that of complex 1(IC50 value of 176.70 μM).

Abstract
Four novel antimony (III) and bismuth(III) complexes of the kind Cl-Sb-O-C(OR)-CH(CH3 )C-NH-(CH2 )2 -NH-C(CH3 )CH:C(OR)-O [where R = -CH3 , M = Sb (1a); R = -C2 H5 , M = Sb (1b); R = -CH3, M = Bi (1c); R = -C2 H5 , M = Bi (1d)] were successfully prepared by reacting antimony(III)chloride and bismuth(III)chloride with sodium salt of β-enamino esters in 1:1 stoichiometry, which were further structurally characterized by physicochemical and IR, 1 H, 13 C NMR spectral and mass spectrometry. Structural analysis revealed that all four derivatives of both antimony and bismuth display octahedarl geometry which has been optimized through computational studies. These derivatives along with their parent ligands were subsequently assayed in vitro for antibacterial (Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and antifungal (Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans) activities. Synthesized complexes were more efficacious in terms of biological activities as compared to parent ligands Further synthesized compounds were evaluated for their in vitro cytotoxic activity against lung cancer cell line A549 using MTT method. IC50 value for all four complexes was determined and all of them are found active. Computational studies of the representative complexes have been done using B3LYP/631-G* basis sets to provide optimized geometry.

Abstract
Over the last few decades, an alarming rise in the percentage of individuals with cancer and those with multi-resistant illnesses has forced researchers to explore possibilities for novel therapeutic approaches. Numerous medications currently exist to treat various disorders, and the development of small molecules as anticancer agents has considerable potential. However, the widespread prevalence of resistance to multiple drugs in cancer indicates that it is necessary to discover novel and promising compounds with ideal characteristics that could overcome the multidrug resistance issue. The utilisation of metallo-drugs has served as a productive anticancer chemotherapeutic method, and this approach may be implemented for combating multi-resistant tumours more successfully. Schiff bases have been receiving a lot of attention as a group of compounds due to their adaptable metal chelating abilities, innate biologic properties, and versatility to tweak the structure to optimise it for a specific biological purpose. The biological relevance of Schiff base and related complexes, notably their anticancer effects, has increased in their popularity as bio-inorganic chemistry has progressed. As a result of learning about Schiff bases antitumor efficacy against multiple cancer cell lines and their complexes, researchers are motivated to develop novel, side-effect-free anticancer treatments. According to study reports from the past ten years, we are still seeking a powerful anticancer contender. This study highlights the potential of Schiff bases, a broad class of chemical molecules, as potent anticancer agents. In combination with other anticancer strategies, they enhance the efficacy of treatment by elevating the cytotoxicity of chemotherapy, surmounting drug resistance, and promoting targeted therapy. Schiff bases also cause cancer cell DNA repair, improve immunotherapy, prevent angiogenesis, cause apoptosis, and lessen the side effects of chemotherapy. The present review explores the development of potential Schiff base and their d and f block metal complexes as anticancer agents against various cancer cell lines.

Abstract
An unsymmetrical salen-type Schiff base ligand, (Z)-1-(((2-((E)-(2-hydroxy-6-methoxybenzylidene)amino)phenyl)amino)methylene)naphthalen-2(1H)-one, and its Zn(II), Cu(II), Co(II), Mn(II), and Fe(III) complexes were synthesized and characterized by mass (MS), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), infrared (IR), ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectra, and effective magnetic moments. The thermal analyses of the obtained ligand and metal complexes were conducted by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Antimicrobial activity of the unsymmetrical Schiff base ligand and its metal complexes were examined for Staphylococcus aureus as Gram-positive bacteria and Escherichia coli as Gram-negative bacteria. In vitro anticancer property of synthetic compounds was estimated against human cancer cell lines, a subline of Hela tumor cell line (KB), and a human liver cancer cell line (HepG-2) as well.

Abstract
As a global pollutant, cadmium (Cd) can easily enter the body through food chains, threatening human health. Most Cd is initially absorbed in the gut, with the gut microbiota playing a pivotal role in reducing Cd absorption and accumulation. This study assessed the effects of three fatty acids on Cd accumulation and toxicity in Cd-exposed mice. The results showed that oleic acid (OA) was the most effective in facilitating Cd excretion in mice among these fatty acids. The use of OA led to reduced Cd accumulation in the organs and increased Cd content in the feces. The metagenomic analysis of the gut microbiota showed that the genus Burkholderia was the most significantly restored by OA in Cd-exposed mice. Burkholderia cepacia, as the type species for the genus Burkholderia, also exhibited strong Cd tolerance after treatment with OA. Furthermore, the electron microscopy analysis showed that most of the Cd was adsorbed on the surface of B. cepacia, where the extracellular polymeric substances (EPSs) secreted by B. cepacia play a key role, displaying a strong capacity for Cd adsorption. The peak at 2355 cm-1 and the total sulfhydryl group content of EPSs showed significant increases following co-treatment with Cd and OA. The results demonstrated the potential roles that gut Burkholderia may play in OA-mediated Cd excretion in mice.

Abstract
In this study, a new bi-nuclear nickel complex [Ni2HL2(EtOH)2](Cl)(EtOH) of a Schiff base ligand, 2-[3-[2-hydroxybenzylideneamino]propyliminomethyl]phenol, was synthesized and characterized using UV/Vis, IR, HRMS, and TGA/DTA analysis. The molecular structure of the obtained complex was corroborated by the single crystal X-ray diffraction technique. It was found in the complex that two molecules of the ligand coordinate with two nickel atoms through azomethine-N and phenoxy-O, resulting in 6-coordinate distorted octahedral geometry, in which two ethanol molecules occupy the axial positions. The dielectric and electrical properties of the obtained samples were studied by impedance spectroscopy at different frequencies (from 1 Hz to 1 MHz) in the temperature range 298–343 K. It is found that the electrical conductivity of the Ni(II) complex is lower than that of the free ligand H2L, suggesting that the complexation traps the charge carriers contained in the ligand.

Abstract
One of the interesting research fields is developing and assessing novel metal-containing medications. A new isatin-3-thiosemicarbazone derivative 4 was synthesized by two different methods based on hydrazone derivatives 2 and 3. Additionally, the chelation of thiosemicarbazone with copper (II) and zinc (II) forms a monobasic tridentate (ONS) complex with two five-member rings and a tetrahedral geometry structure. The structure of synthesized complexes was characterized using elemental analysis, FT-IR, mass spectra, and 1H/13C NMR. Thermogravimetric analysis revealed the upgrading of the thermal stability of metal complexes compared to their thiosemicarbazone ligand. The stoichiometric ratio of the coordination confirmed the formation of 1:1 (M: L) stoichiometry. In vitro antimicrobial activity was screened against two gram-positive, two gram-negative, and one fungal strain. Both ligand 4 and Zn complex 6 displayed high antimicrobial activity compared with copper complex 5 based on the zone of inhibition. Further, MIC and MBC were determined for both zinc and ligand. The zinc complex 6 displayed excellent antimicrobial activity with (MIC = 3.9-27.77 μg/mL) against bacterial strains and (MIC = 7.81 μg/mL) against C. albicans, as well as exhibited MBC values ranging between (MBC = 6.51-45.58 μg/mL) and (MFC = 13.58 μg/mL), respectively, and demonstrated bactericidal and fungicidal behavior. The in-silico ADMET study for ligand and two complexes were determined and showed non-AMES toxicity, non-carcinogenic, and obey the rule of five. A comparative docking study provided more insight into the binding mechanisms and suggested that antimicrobial activity may be due to inhibition of different targets.

Abstract
Schiff bases have played significant roles in the development of inorganic or coordination chemistry. Three Schiff base (NB, CB and HB) ligands, prepared for the reaction of 2-amino-6-methoxy-benzothiazole with 2-Nitrobenzaldehyde, 2-chlorobenzaldehyde and 2,4-Dihydroxybenzaldehyed, respectively, were investigated for their transition metal complexes, which were prepared by reacting the ligand (2:1 molar ratio) with Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Cd(II), Cr(III) and Fe(III) chlorides. The nature of the interaction between the metal ions and ligands (L) was studied with the aid of magnetic susceptibility, elemental analysis, FTIR and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. Based on the magnetic superstability and elemental analysis results, octahedral structures of the complexes, such as [ML2Cl2] or [ML2Cl(OH)], were proposed for Cu(II), Cd(II), Co(II) and Ni(II) in which the ligand (L:NB, CB or HB) is bidentate through the azomethine and benzothiazole nitrogen. For Cr(III) and Fe(III) complexes, octahedral ML2Cl(OH)2 or ML2(OH)3 structures were proposed, where one ligand is monodentate and the other is bidentate. The azomethine ν(-HC=N-) and 1H-NMR peaks of NB and CB were shifted to a higher frequency and downfield, respectively, upon complexation with metal ions. The bonding of OH groups of HB to Co(II), Cu(II) and Ni(II) enables π-backdonation from these metals to the azomethine of Schiff bases and the consequent shift of ν(-HC=N-) to a lower frequency and changes in the intensity of the 1H-NMR peak of OH. On the other hand, this backdonation was not evidenced in the FTIR of HB complexes with high-charge Cr(III) and Fe(III) ions.

Abstract
New Pb(II), Mn(II), Hg(II), and Zn(II) complexes, derived from 4-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-(2-(phenylamino)acetyl)thiosemicarbazone, were synthesized. The compounds with general formulas, [Pb(H2L)2(OAc)2]ETOH.H2O, [Mn(H2L)(HL)]Cl, [Hg2(H2L)(OH)SO4], and [Zn(H2L)(HL)]Cl, were characterized by physicochemical and theoretical studies. X-ray diffraction studies showed a decrease in the crystalline size of compounds that were exposed to gamma irradiation (γ-irradiation). Thermal studies of the synthesized complexes showed thermal stability of the Mn(II) and Pb(II) complexes after γ-irradiation compared to those before γ–irradiation, while no changes in the Zn(II) and Hg(II) complexes were observed. The optimized geometric structures of the ligand and metal complexes are discussed regarding density functional theory calculations (DFT). The antimicrobial activities of the ligand and metal complexes against several bacterial and fungal stains were screened before and after irradiation. The Hg(II) complex has shown excellent antibacterial activity before and after γ-irradiation. In vitro cytotoxicity screening of the ligand and the Mn(II) and Zn(II) complexes before and after γ-irradiation disclosed that both the ligand and Mn(II) complex exhibited higher activity against human liver (Hep-G2) than Zn(II). Molecular docking was performed on the active site of MK-2 and showed good results.

Abstract
Kinetics of substitution reaction of three high-spin pyridylmethylene-8-quinolyl iron (II) complexes by CN– ions were studied spectrophotometrically in various ratios of aqueous–methanol binary mixtures at 298 ± 0.2 K. Kinetics of the substitution reaction follow the rate law (k2[CN−][complex]) on applying of the conditions of the pseudo first order reaction. Reactivity of the reaction was investigated in terms of ligand moiety and solvent effects. The rate of the reaction increased as the co-solvent methanol ratio increased. This reactivity trend is predominantly due to increases in the activity coefficient of those hydrophobic complexes in the organic methanol co-solvent, depending upon the hydrophobicity of the substituent groups (R) in the coordinated ligand in the complexes. Reactivity trends of the prepared complexes in the presence of the inserted hydrophobic salts such as tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB), tetraethylammonium bromide (TEAB), and tetramethylammonium bromide (TMAB) or hydrophilic salt potassium bromide (KBr) were studied. The observed decrease in the rate constants with increasing salt concentration was due to the cationic character of the reacting complexes. In addition, the synthesized compounds were tested for antimicrobial activity against selected strains of microbes. The results showed that the order of reactivity of the investigated complexes against the selected microbes were as follows: ppaqFe > paaqFe > pmaqFe. In addition, the investigated ligands and their Fe(II) complexes were screened for anticancer activities against several cell lines of cancer. The ppaqFe complex showed the best cytotoxic efficiency against the selected cancer lines (IC50 = 8.75–21.50 µg/µl), whereas the pmaq ligand showed the lowest cytotoxic efficiency (IC50 = 58.25– 72.40). Furthermore, the antioxidant potential of the presented compounds was studied by applying DPPH assays and showed a potential activity compared with standard vitamin C. The excellent antimicrobial and anticancer activities of the investigated Fe(II) chelates compared with literature values are promising and deserve further study.

Abstract
Three novel 2-aminopyrazine Schiff bases derived from salicylaldehyde derivatives and their uranyl complexes were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, UV-vis, FTIR, molar conductance, and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The proposed structures were optimized using density functional theory (DFT/B3LYP) and 6-311G ∗(d,p) basis sets. All uranyl complexes are soluble in DMSO and have low molar conductance, which indicates that all the complexes are nonelectrolytes. The DNA binding of those Schiff bases and their uranyl complexes was studied using UV-vis spectroscopy, and screening of their ability to bind to calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) showed that the complexes interact with CT-DNA through an intercalation mode, for which the Kb values ranged from 1 × 106 to 3.33 × 105 M-1. The anticancer activities of the Schiff base ligands and their uranyl complexes against two ovarian (Ovcar-3) and melanoma cell lines (M14) were investigated, and the results indicated that uranyl complexes exhibit better results than the Schiff base ligands. Molecular docking identified the distance, energy account, type, and position of links contributing to the interactions between these complexes and two different cancer proteins (3W2S and 2OPZ).

Abstract
A series of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Th(IV) and UO2(II) complexes have been synthesized from reaction of nitrogen based ligand (L) i.e. N',N'''-((Z)-ethane-1,2-diylidine)bis(2-aminobenzohydrazide)(L) with their salts. Investigation of synthesized metal complexes was achieved by using elemental analyses, magnetic moment, molar conductance, FT-IR, UV/Vis. spectroscopy, thermal techniques and 3D molecular modeling. An octahedral geometry has been suggested for all complexes except for Ni(II) complex (2) which adopted tetrahedral geometry. To through a light on the probability of structure changes with γ-irradiation, the effect of gamma irradiation on powder samples of the complexes [Co(L)Cl2].4H2O (1); [Ni2(L)(OAc)4].5H2O (2) and [Cu(L)Br2].5H2O (3) was investigated after being exposed to high energetic γ-rays at 100 kGy dose (hereafter referred to as (1A,2A,3A, respectively). Spectral, thermal, magnetic susceptibility, molar conductance and powder X-ray diffraction patterns (XRD) were performed before and after irradiation. In addition, the in vitro antimicrobial activity of the complexes against Staphylococcus aureus as Gram-positive strain, Escherichia coli as Gram-negative strain and antifungal Candida albicans was performed for both unirradiated and irradiated samples. The obtained results showed that the irradiated complexes were affected, but not greatly by the applied γ-irradiation dose.

Abstract
Abstract
In the prevailing apocalyptic times of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the whole scientific community is busy in designing anticovid drug or vaccine. Under such a fascination, Schiff bases or azomethine compounds are continuously interrogated for antimicrobial properties. These compounds represent interesting molecular scaffolds of huge medicinal and industrial relevance. In order to update the current literature support of such facts this article introduces the synthetic chemistry, mechanism of formation of a Schiff base, followed by biological efficacy and finally a suitable discussion on the mechanism of respective bioactivity. In most of the studies revealing the biological evaluation of azomethine functionalized frameworks, fascinated results have been recorded in case of azomethine-metal complexes as compared with the free ligands. Also, the CH=N or C=N form of organic ligands have indicated marvellous results. Therefore, in connection with the biological relevance and microbicidal implications of such metallic compounds, this works reviews the current update of microorganism fighting efficacy of azomethine metal complexes along with the introduction of some metallodrugs as excellent candidates having COVID-19 defending potentiality.

Abstract
A new bidentate Schiff base ligand (ATBS [4-bromo-2-(thiazole-2-yliminomethyl)phenol]) was synthesized via the condensation reaction of 2-aminothiazole with 5-bromosalicylaldehyde in ethanol. The reaction of ATBS with transition metal salts of Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), and Mn(II) afforded the corresponding ATBS-M complexes. Results from physicochemical and spectral analyses, such as elemental analysis, infrared, UV-Vis spectroscopy, magnetic susceptibility, and molar conductance, revealed a nonelectrolytic nature with octahedral (Oh ) geometry and a metal/ligand ratio of 1:2 for Cu(II), Co(II), and Ni(II), but 1:1 for the Mn(II) complex. The density functional theory (DFT) calculations are correlated very well with the proposed structure and molecular geometry of the complexes as [M(ATBS)2 ] (M = Cu, Co, and Ni) and [Mn(ATBS)(H2 O)2 ]. Significantly, the prepared compounds showed strong inhibition activity for a wide spectrum of bacteria (Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, and Staphylococcus aureus) and fungi (Candida albicans, Aspergillus flavus, and Trichophyton rubrum), with the ATBS-Ni complex being the most promising antibiotic agent. Molecular docking studies of the binding interaction between the title complexes with the bacterial protein receptor CYP51 revealed clear insights about the inhibition nature against the studied microorganisms, with the following order: ATBS-Cu > ATBS-Mn > ATBS-Ni > ATBS-Co for complex stability. Moreover, the cytotoxicity measurements of all prepared metal complexes against the colon carcinoma (HCT-116) and hepatocellular carcinoma (Hep-G2) cell lines showed exceptional anticancer efficacy of the complexes as compared with the free ATBS Schiff base ligand. Significantly, the results attested that ATBS-Cu is the most effective complex against HCT-116 cells, whereas ATBS-Mn has the highest cytotoxic efficiency against Hep-G2 cells. Furthermore, electronic spectra, viscosity measurements, and gel electrophoresis techniques were employed to probe the interaction of all prepared ATBS-metal complexes with calf thymus (CT)-DNA. Results confirmed that all complexes are strongly bound to CT-DNA via intercalation mode, with the ATBS-Co complex having the highest binding ability.
