Abstract
Molecular recognition is a form of information transfer, seen in the base pairing in DNA which is derived from the identity (acceptor or donor) and number of hydrogen bond sites within each base. Here we report bis-ligand palladium(II) complexes that exhibit similar complementarity. Pd(II) has square planar four-coordinate geometry, giving control over ligand orientation and denticity. Pairings were developed using ligand denticity (3 : 1 or 2 : 2), and hydrogen bond capability (AA:DD or AD:DA) or lack thereof. Five pairings were investigated, with two sets of four being found fully orthogonal. The two 3 : 1 pairings exhibited limited ligand exchange. The extent of this exchange varied dependant on solvent from 2 : 1 (desired to undesired) to 6 : 1. A reliable and varied set of ligand pairs have therefore been developed for bis-ligand coordination sphere engineering in pursuit of sorting for complex molecular architectures and molecular-level information storage and transfer events.

Abstract
We present a chemical discovery robot for the efficient and reliable discovery of supramolecular architectures through the exploration of a huge reaction space exceeding ten billion combinations. The system was designed to search for areas of reactivity found through autonomous selection of the reagent types, amounts, and reaction conditions aiming for combinations that are reactive. The process consists of two parts where reagents are mixed together, choosing from one type of aldehyde, one amine and one azide (from a possible family of two amines, two aldehydes and four azides) with different volumes, ratios, reaction times, and temperatures, whereby the reagents are passed through a copper coil reactor. Next, either cobalt or iron is added, again from a large number of possible quantities. The reactivity was determined by evaluating differences in pH, UV‐Vis, and mass spectra before and after the search was started. The algorithm was focused on the exploration of interesting regions, as defined by the outputs from the sensors, and this led to the discovery of a range of 1‐benzyl‐(1,2,3‐triazol‐4‐yl)‐N‐alkyl‐(2‐pyridinemethanimine) ligands and new complexes: [Fe(L1)2](ClO4)2 (1); [Fe(L2)2](ClO4)2 (2); [Co2(L3)2](ClO4)4 (3); [Fe2(L3)2](ClO4)4 (4), which were crystallised and their structure confirmed by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction determination, as well as a range of new supramolecular clusters discovered in solution using high‐resolution mass spectrometry.

Abstract
In this work, two bidentate 2-pyridyl-1,2,3-triazole ligands (3a and 3b) containing a 4-substituted benzenesulfonamide pharmacophore prepared by classical click chemistry procedures, as well as their corresponding rhenium complexes, 4a and 4b of general formula [ReCl(CO)3(L)] (L = 3a or 3b) were prepared and fully characterised by spectroscopic methods (IR, NMR, MS, UV-Vis), elemental analysis, X-ray diffraction, and theoretical studies using DFT and TD-DFT methods. In particular, we showed that, in the solid state, the pyridine and the triazole rings of 3b adopted an uncommon cis configuration which stems from intermolecular hydrogen bonds. Preliminary assays demonstrated a promising nanomolar inhibitory activity against carbonic anhydrase isoform IX for both ligands and complexes with a strong affinity Ki of 2.8 nM for ligand 3a. More interestingly, complex 4b exhibited a pronounced selectivity against hCA IX over the off-targets hCA I and hCA II which makes this compound a promising potential anticancer drug candidate.

Abstract
In recent years, metal complexes of organo 1,2,3-triazole click-derived ligands have attracted significant attention as catalysts in many chemical transformations and also as biological and pharmaceutical active agents. Regarding the important applications of these metal-organo 1,2,3-triazole-based complexes, in this review, we focused on the recently reported investigations of the structural, electronic, and spectroscopic aspects of the complexation process in transition metal complexes of 1,2,3-triazole-based click ligands. In line with this, the coordination properties of these triazole-based click ligands with transition metals were studied via several quantum chemistry calculations. Moreover, considering the complexation process, we have presented comparative discussions between the computational results and the available experimental data.

Abstract
The self-assembly of ligands of different geometries with metal ions gives rise to metallosupramolecular architectures of differing structural types. The rotational flexibility of ferrocene allows for conformational diversity, and, as such, self-assembly processes with 1,1'-disubstituted ferrocene ligands could lead to a variety of interesting architectures. Herein, we report a small family of three bis-bidentate 1,1'-disubstituted ferrocene ligands, functionalized with either 2,2'-bipyridine or 2-pyridyl-1,2,3-triazole chelating units. The self-assembly of these ligands with the (usually) four-coordinate, diamagnetic metal ions Cu(I), Ag(I), and Pd(II) was examined using a range of techniques including 1H and DOSY NMR spectroscopies, high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, X-ray crystallography, and density functional theory calculations. Additionally, the electrochemical properties of these redox-active metallosupramolecular assemblies were examined using cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry. The copper(I) complexes of the 1,1'-disubstituted ferrocene ligands were found to be coordination polymers, while the silver(I) and palladium(II) complexes formed discrete [1 + 1] or [2 + 2] metallomacrocyclic architectures.

Abstract
A series of cyclometalated iridium(III) complexes with either 4-(2-pyridyl)-1,2,3-triazole or 1-(2-picolyl)-1,2,3-triazole ancillary ligands to give complexes with either 5- or 6-membered chelate rings were synthesized and characterized by a combination of X-ray crystallography, electron spin ionization-high-resolution mass spectroscopy (ESI-HRMS), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The electronic properties of the complexes were probed using absorption and emission spectroscopy, as well as cyclic voltammetry. The relative stability of the complexes formed from each ligand class was measured, and their excited-state properties were compared. The emissive properties are, with the exception of complexes that contain a nitroaromatic substituent, insensitive to functionalization of the ancillary pyridyl-1,2,3-triazole ligand but tuning of the emission maxima was possible by modification of the cyclometalating ligands. It is possible to prepare a wide range of optimally substituted pyridyl-1,2,3-triazoles using copper Cu(I)-catalyzed azide alkyne cycloaddition, which is a commonly used "click" reaction, and this family of ligands represent an useful alternative to bipyridine ligands for the preparation of luminescent iridium(III) complexes.

Abstract
Two inverse 2-pyridyl-1,2,3-triazole "click" ligands, 2-(4-phenyl-1H-1,2,3-triazol-1-yl)pyridine and 2-(4-benzyl-1H-1,2,3-triazol-1-yl)pyridine, and their palladium(II), platinum(II), rhenium(I), and ruthenium(II) complexes have been synthesized in good to excellent yields. The properties of these inverse "click" complexes have been compared to the isomeric regular compounds using a variety of techniques. X-ray crystallographic analysis shows that the regular and inverse complexes are structurally very similar. However, the chemical and physical properties of the isomers are quite different. Ligand exchange studies and density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicate that metal complexes of the regular 2-(1-R-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)pyridine (R = phenyl, benzyl) ligands are more stable than those formed with the inverse 2-(4-R-1H-1,2,3-triazol-1-yl)pyridine (R = phenyl, benzyl) "click" chelators. Additionally, the bis-2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) ruthenium(II) complexes of the "click" chelators have been shown to have short excited state lifetimes, which in the inverse triazole case, resulted in ejection of the 2-pyridyl-1,2,3-triazole ligand from the complex. Under identical conditions, the isomeric regular 2-pyridyl-1,2,3-triazole ruthenium(II) bpy complexes are photochemically inert. The absorption spectra of the inverse rhenium(I) and platinum(II) complexes are red-shifted compared to the regular compounds. It is shown that conjugation between the substituent group R and triazolyl unit has a negligible effect on the photophysical properties of the complexes. The inverse rhenium(I) complexes have large Stokes shifts, long metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) excited state lifetimes, and respectable quantum yields which are relatively solvent insensitive.

Abstract
The synthesis of a small family of six electronically and sterically modified 1,3,4-trisubstituted 1,2,3-triazol-5-ylidene gold(I) chloride complexes is described. Additionally, the corresponding trans-[PdBr2(iPr2-bimy)(1,3,4-trisubstituted 1,2,3-triazol-5-ylidene)] complexes are also generated and used to examine the donor strength of the 1,3,4-trisubstituted 1,2,3-triazol-5-ylidene ligands. All compounds have been characterized by 1H and 13C NMR and IR spectroscopy, high-resolution electrospray mass spectrometry (HR-ESI-MS), and elemental analysis. The molecular structures of four of the gold(I) and four of the palladium(II) complexes were determined using X-ray crystallography. Finally, it is demonstrated that these 1,2,3-triazol-5-ylidene gold(I) chloride complexes (Au(trz)Cl) are able to catalyze the cycloisomerization of 1,6-enynes, in high yield and regioselectivity, as well as the intermolecular direct etherification of allylic alcohols. Exploiting the Au(trz)Cl precatalysts allowed the etherification of allylic alcohols to be carried out under milder conditions, with better yield and regioselectivity than selected commercially available gold(I) catalysts.

Abstract
A series of metallosupramolecular [Fe2L3](BF4)4 “click” cylinders have been synthesized in excellent yields (90%–95%) from [Fe(H2O)6](BF4)2 and bis(bidentate) pyridyl-1,2,3-triazole ligands. All complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV-vis, 1H-, 13C- and DOSY-NMR spectroscopies and, in four cases, the structures confirmed by X-ray crystallography. Molecular modeling indicated that some of these “click” complexes were of similar size and shape to related biologically active pyridylimine-based iron(II) helicates and suggested that the “click” complexes may bind both duplex and triplex DNA. Cell-based agarose diffusion assays showed that the metallosupramolecular [Fe2L3](BF4)4 “click” cylinders display no antifungal activity against S. cerevisiae. This observed lack of antifungal activity appears to be due to the poor stability of the “click” complexes in DMSO and biological media.

Abstract
The syntheses of the 4-n-propyl and 4-phenyl substituted fac-Re(CO)(3) complexes of the tridentate "click" ligand (2,6-bis(4-substituted-1,2,3-triazol-1-ylmethyl)pyridine) are described. The complexes were obtained by refluxing methanol solutions of [Re(CO)(5)Cl], AgPF(6) and either the 4-propyl or 4-phenyl substituted ligand for 16 h. The ligands and the two rhenium(I) complexes were characterised by elemental analysis, HR-ESMS, ATR-IR, (1)H and (13)C NMR spectroscopy and the molecular structures of both complexes were confirmed by X-ray crystallography. The electronic structure of the fac-Re(CO)(3) "click" complexes was probed using UV-Vis, Raman and emission spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry and DFT calculations. Altering the electronic nature of the ligand's substituent, from aromatic to alkyl, had little effect on the absorption/emission maxima and electrochemical properties of the complexes indicating that the 1,2,3-triazole unit may insulate the metal centre from the electronic modification at the ligands' periphery. Both Re(I) complexes were found to be weakly emitting with short excited state lifetimes. The electrochemistry of the complexes is defined by quasi-reversible Re oxidation and irreversible triazole-based ligand reduction processes.

Abstract
The title compound, [PdCl(2)(C(21)H(17)N(3))], is a member of a sequence of Pd, Pt and Co dichloride complexes bearing polysubstituted (pyrazol-1-ylmethyl)pyridine ligands. It is shown that there is a correlation between the steric bulkiness of the bidentate (pyrazol-1-ylmethyl)pyridine ligands and the Pd-N(pyrazole) distances, i.e. the larger the ligand, the longer the bond. In contrast, no trend is observed between the steric properties of the ligand and the Pd-N(pyridine) bond lengths.

Abstract
A new heteroditopic calix[4]diquinone triazole containing receptor capable of recognising both cations and anions through Lewis base and C-H hydrogen-bonding modes, respectively, of the triazole motif has been prepared. This ion-pair receptor cooperatively binds halide/monovalent-cation combinations in an aqueous mixture, with selectivity trends being established by (1)H NMR and UV/Vis spectroscopy. Cation binding by the calix[4]diquinone oxygen and triazole nitrogen donors enhances the strength of the halide complexation at the isophthalamide recognition site of the receptor. Conversely, anions bound in the receptor's isophthalamide cavity enhance cation recognition. (1)H NMR investigations in solution suggest that the receptor's triazole motifs are capable of coordinating simultaneously to both cation and anion guest species. Solid-state X-ray crystallographic structural analysis of a variety of receptor ion-pair adducts further demonstrates the dual cation-anion binding role of the triazole group.
