Syntheses, structures, properties and DFT calculations of coordination polymers constructed by 2,6-bis(benzimidazolyl)pyridine

A Highly Selective and Sensitive Sequential Recognition Probe Zn2+ and H2PO4- Based on Chiral Thiourea Schiff Base

A series of novel chiral thiourea fluorescent probes HL₁-HL₆ were designed and synthesized from (1R,2R)-1,2-diphenylethylenediamine, phenyl isothiocyanate, and different substituted salicylic aldehydes. All of the compounds were confirmed by ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR, and HRMS. They exhibit high selectivity and sensitivity to Zn²⁺ in the presence of nitrate ions with the detection limit of 2.3 × 10^-8 M (HL₅). Meanwhile, their zinc (II) complexes (L-ZnNO₃) showed continuous response to H₂PO₄^- in acetonitrile solution. The identification processes could further be verified by supramolecular chemistry data analysis, X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis, and theoretical study. The research provides reliable evidence for an explanation of the mechanism of action of thiourea involved in coordination, which is important for the application of thiourea fluorescent probes. In short, the sensors HL₁-HL₆ based on chiral thiourea Schiff base will be promising detection devices for Zn²⁺ and H₂PO₄^-.

New bis hydrazone: Synthesis, X-ray crystal structure, DFT computations, conformational study and in silico study of the inhibition activity of SARS-CoV-2

The aim of this work was to synthesize new bis hydrazone derived from benzil in good yield, namely: (1Z,2Z)-1,2-bis (3-Chlorophenyl Hydrazino) Benzil, encoded by 3-Cl BHB. The benzil (or 1,2-diphenyl ethanedione) reacts with 3-Cl phenyl hydrazine by reflux method using ethanol as solvent to obtain the target compound. The obtained product is depicted by UV-Vis, IR spectroscopy and XRD-crystals analysis. All various contacts intra and intermolecular found in 3-Cl BHB were determined by the X-ray diffraction technique performed on single crystals. On the other hand, the optimized geometric structure of 3-Cl BHB was computed by the DFT/B3LYP method with 6-31 G (d, p) level. So, the bond lengths and angles, frontier molecular orbitals (FMO), surface electrostatic potential of the molecule (MEP), global reactivity descriptors, Mulliken atomic charges, computed vibrational analysis and electronic absorption spectrum were determined to get a good understanding of the electronic properties and the active sites of 3-Cl BHB, then to compare them with experimental data. Additionally, a conformational study was carried out using the same method (DFT). The structure-activity relationships established through molecular docking studies showed that 3-Cl BHB structure strongly binds to the receptors M^pro (-8.90 Kcal/mol) and RdRp (-8.60 Kcal/mol) which confirm its inhibition activity against COVID-19.

Multi analyte sensing of amphiphilic tridentate bis(benzimidazolyl)pyridine incorporated in liposomes and potential application in enzyme assay

A liposome based nanosensor Lipo-1 for efficient detection of copper, cyanide (CN^-) and ATP in a pure aqueous medium has been described. Lipo-1 shows a fluorescence ON-OFF response with copper. However, Lipo-1.Cu (Lipo-1 and copper ensemble) was used for the OFF-ON detection of ATP with nM and CN^- with μM detection levels, lower than the WHO permissible level for safe drinking. Lipo-1 has better and enhanced binding properties over the counter organic amphiphilic compound Bzimpy-LC, which is not soluble in water. The significant changes in the emission spectra in the presence of Cu²⁺, CN^- and ATP ions, as variable inputs, are used to construct INHIBIT and OR logic operations in a nano-scale environment. The fluorescent detection of CN^- ions with Lipo-1.Cu was used to develop an enzyme assay for β-glucosidase using amygdalin as the substrate. β-Glucosidase enzymatic activity was monitored by the emission OFF-ON signal of the probe Lipo-1.Cu by CN^- detection. This approach could be an efficient method for developing a fluorescence-based β-glucosidase enzyme assay. A switch ON luminescence response, low detection limit, fast response, 100% aqueous solution, biocompatibility, multi-analyte detection, and improved sensitivity and selectivity of Bzimpy-LC in lipid bilayer membranes are the main features of the nanoprobe Lipo-1. These properties give it a clear advantage for analytical applications.

Macrocycle-Induced Modulation of Internuclear Interactions in Homobimetallic Complexes

A synthetic route has been developed for a series of 3d homobimetallic complexes of Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, and Cu using three different pyridyldiimine and pyridyldialdimine macrocyclic ligands with ring sizes of 18, 20, and 22 atoms. Crystallographic analyses indicate that while the distances between the metals can be modulated by the size of the macrocycle pocket, the flexibility in the alkyl linkers used to construct the macrocycles enables the ligand to adjust the orientation of the PD(A)I fragments in response to the geometry of the [M₂(μ-Cl)₂]²⁺ core, particularly with respect to Jahn-Teller distortions. Analyses by UV-vis spectroscopy and SQUID magnetometry revealed deviations in the properties [M₂(μ-Cl)₂]²⁺-containing complexes bound by standard mononucleating ligands, highlighting the ability of macrocycles to use ring size to control the magnetic interactions of pseudo-octahedral, high-spin metal centers.
