Abstract
A terminal [NiII-OH] complex 1, supported by triflamide-functionalized NHC ligands, showed divergent reactivity for the reaction of sulfone with alcohol, contingent on base concentration, temperature, and time. Julia-type olefination of alcohols with sulfones was achieved using one equiv. of base, whereas lowering base loading to 0.5 equiv. afforded α-alkylated sulfones. Besides excellent substrate scope and selectivity, biologically active stilbene derivatives DMU-212, pinosylvin, resveratrol, and piceatannol were synthesized in high yield under Julia-type olefination conditions. An extensive array of controlled experiments and DFT calculations provide valuable insight on the reaction pathway.

Abstract
In exploring terminal nickel-oxo complexes, postulated to be the active oxidant in natural and non-natural oxidation reactions, we report the synthesis of the pseudo-trigonal bipyramidal NiII complexes (K)[NiII (LPh )(DMF)] (1[DMF]) and (NMe4 )2 [NiII (LPh )(OAc)] (1[OAc]) (LPh =2,2',2''-nitrilo-tris-(N-phenylacetamide); DMF=N,N-dimethylformamide; - OAc=acetate). Both complexes were characterized using NMR, FTIR, ESI-MS, and X-ray crystallography, showing the LPh ligand to bind in a tetradentate fashion, together with an ancillary donor. The reaction of 1[OAc] with peroxyphenyl acetic acid (PPAA) resulted in the formation of [(LPh )NiIII -O-H⋅⋅⋅OAc]2- , 2, that displays many of the characteristics of a terminal Ni=O species. 2 was characterized by UV-Vis, EPR, and XAS spectroscopies and ESI-MS. 2 decayed to yield a NiII -phenolate complex 3 (through aromatic electrophilic substitution) that was characterized by NMR, FTIR, ESI-MS, and X-ray crystallography. 2 was capable of hydroxylation of hydrocarbons and epoxidation of olefins, as well as oxygen atom transfer oxidation of phosphines at exceptional rates. While the oxo-wall remains standing, this complex represents an excellent example of a masked metal-oxide that displays all of the properties expected of the ever elusive terminal M=O beyond the oxo-wall.

Abstract
The reaction of (NMe4)2[NiII(LPh)(OAc)] (1[OAc], LPh = 2,2',2''-nitrilo-tris-(N-phenylacetamide); OAc = acetate) with 3-chloroperoxybenzoic acid (m-CPBA) resulted in the formation of a self-hydroxylated NiIII-phenolate complex, 2, where one of the phenyl groups of LPh underwent hydroxylation. 2 was characterised by UV-Vis, EPR, and XAS spectroscopies and ESI-MS. 2 decayed to yield a previously characterised NiII-phenolate complex, 3. We postulate that self-hydroxylation was mediated by a formally NiIVO oxidant, formed from the reaction of 1[OAc] with m-CPBA, which undergoes electrophilic aromatic substitution to yield 2. This is supported by an analysis of the kinetic and thermodynamic properties of the reaction of 1[OAc] with m-CPBA. Addition of exogenous hydrocarbon substrates intercepted the self-hydroxylation process, producing hydroxylated products, providing further support for the formally NiIVO entity. This study demonstrates that the reaction between NiII salts and m-CPBA can lead to potent metal-based oxidants, in contrast to recent studies demonstrating carboxyl radical is a radical free-chain reaction initiator in NiII/m-CPBA hydrocarbon oxidation catalysis.

Abstract
A terminal [Ni-OH] complex 1, supported by triflamide-functionalized NHC ligands, catalyzes the hydrosilylative reduction of a range of primary amides into primary amines in good to excellent yields under base-free conditions with key functional group tolerance. Catalyst 1 is also effective for the reduction of a variety of tertiary and secondary amides. In contrast to literature reports, the reactivity of 1 towards amide reduction follows an inverse trend, i.e., 1° amide > 3° amide > 2° amide. The reaction does not follow a usual dehydration pathway.

Abstract
Hydrogen bonds within the secondary coordination sphere are effective in controlling the chemistry of synthetic metal complexes. Coupling the capacity of hydrogen bonds with those of redox-active ligands offers a promising approach to enhance the functional properties of transition metal complexes. These qualities were successfully illustrated with the [NNN]3-pincer ligand N,N' -(azanediylbis(2,l-phenylene))bis(2,4,6-triisopropyl-benzene-sulfonamido ([ibaps]3-) through the preparation of the NiII-OH2 complex, [NiII(ibaps)(OH2)]-. The [ibaps]3- ligand contains two appended sulfonamido groups that support the formation of intramolecular hydrogen bonds. The bulky 2,4,6-triisopropylphenyl rings are necessary to ensure that only one ligand binds to a single metal ion. The molecular structure of the complex shows a square planar N3O primary coordination sphere and two intramolecular hydrogen bonds involving the aqua ligand. Electrochemical measurements in acetonitrile revealed two oxidation events at potentials below that of the ferrocenium/ferrocene couple. Oxidation with 1 equiv of ferrocenium produced the one-electron oxidized species, [Ni(ibaps)(OH2)]. Experimental and computational studies support this assignment.

Abstract
A series of bimetallic complexes prepared with the ligands N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethane-1,2-diamine (TMEDA) and N,N',N''-[2,2',2''-nitrilotris(ethane-2,1-diyl)]tris(2,4,6-trimethylbenzenesulfonamido) ([MST]3-) is described. Four diiron compounds of the formulation (TMEDA)FeII(X)-(μ-OH)-FeIIIMST were prepared, in which the X- ligands are the anions OTf-, Br-, SCN-, or N3-. Additionally, two heterobimetallic compounds of the formulation (TMEDA)MII(OTf)-(μ-OH)-FeIIIMST (MII = CoII or NiII) were synthesized. All these compounds have similar spectroscopic and structural properties. The diiron compounds exhibit perpendicular-mode electron paramagnetic resonance spectra consistent with S = 1/2 spin ground states, which is expected for high-spin FeII and FeIII centres that are antiferromagnetically coupled. The heterobimetallic (TMEDA)NiII(OTf)-(μ-OH)-FeIIIMST complex had a spin state of S = 3/2 that also resulted from antiferromagnetic coupling between the high-spin NiII and FeIII centres. The modularity of this system is further demonstrated by the substitution of the TMEDA ligand with ethylenediamine (en); for this species two equivalents of en coordinate to the FeII centre to form [(en)2FeII-(μ-OH)-FeIIIMST]OTf. These results demonstrate that a modular bimetallic system has been developed in which the key components can be modified.

Abstract
Bimetallic complexes are important sites in metalloproteins but are often difficult to prepare synthetically. We have previously introduced an approach to form discrete bimetallic complexes with MII-(μ-OH)-FeIII (MII = Mn, Fe) cores using the tripodal ligand N,N',N″-[2,2',2″-nitrilotris(ethane-2,1-diyl)]tris(2,4,6-trimethylbenzenesulfonamido) ([MST]3-). This series is extended to include the rest of the late 3d transition metal ions (MII = Co, Ni, Cu, Zn). All of the bimetallic complexes have similar spectroscopic and structural properties that reflect little change despite varying the MII centers. Magnetic studies performed on the complexes in solution using electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy showed that the observed spin states varied incrementally from S = 0 through S = 5/2; these results are consistent with antiferromagnetic coupling between the high-spin MII and FeIII centers. However, the difference in the MII ion occupancy yielded only slight changes in the magnetic exchange coupling strength, and all complexes had J values ranging from +26(4) to +35(3) cm-1.

Abstract
Two simple biphenyl-appended (2-pyridyl)alkylamine N-bidentate ligands, Le and Lm, having ethylene and methylene spacers between donor groups, with bite angles Le ≈ 100° and Lm ≈ 80°, dictate pseudotetrahedral and trigonal-bipyramidal geometries in six high-spin Ni(II)-halide complexes, [Ni(Le)X2] and [Ni(Lm)2X](ClO4) (where X = Cl-, Br-, I-), respectively. The structures in the solid state, determined using X-ray crystallography, and in solution, determined using spectroscopic methods (UV-vis-NIR and paramagnetic 1H NMR), which complement each other, are described.
