Recent Advances in Nanoparticle Development for Drug Delivery: A Comprehensive Review of Polycaprolactone-Based Multi-Arm Architectures

Controlled drug delivery is a crucial area of study for improving the targeted availability of drugs; several polymer systems have been applied for the formulation of drug delivery vehicles, including linear amphiphilic block copolymers, but with some limitations manifested in their ability to form only nanoaggregates such as polymersomes or vesicles within a narrow range of hydrophobic/hydrophilic balance, which can be problematic. For this, multi-arm architecture has emerged as an efficient alternative that overcame these challenges, with many interesting advantages such as reducing critical micellar concentrations, producing smaller particles, allowing for various functional compositions, and ensuring prolonged and continuous drug release. This review focuses on examining the key variables that influence the customization of multi-arm architecture assemblies based on polycaprolactone and their impact on drug loading and delivery. Specifically, this study focuses on the investigation of the structure-property relationships in these formulations, including the thermal properties presented by this architecture. Furthermore, this work will emphasize the importance of the type of architecture, chain topology, self-assembly parameters, and comparison between multi-arm structures and linear counterparts in relation to their impact on their performance as nanocarriers. By understanding these relationships, more effective multi-arm polymers can be designed with appropriate characteristics for their intended applications.

Noncovalent Bile Acid Oligomers as Facial Amphiphilic Antimicrobials

New antimicrobial agents are needed to address the ever-growing risk of bacterial resistance, particularly for methicillin- and vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). Here, we report a class of bile acid oligomers as facial amphiphilic antimicrobials, which are noncovalently fabricated by cholic acid (CA) and deoxycholic acid (DCA) with polyamines (e.g., diamines, diethylenetriamine, spermidine, and spermine). The antibacterial activities of these bile acid oligomers (CA/polyamines and DCA/polyamines) against S. aureus become stronger with increasing the amine group numbers of polyamines without obviously enhanced cytotoxicity and skin irritation. DCA/spermine, entirely composed of natural products, exhibits the best antibacterial activity but the lowest cytotoxicity and the weakest skin irritation. All CA/polyamines and DCA/polyamines form well-ordered ribbon-like aggregates, collecting numerous facial amphiphilic structures to significantly enhance the interactions with bacterial membranes. In particular, the biogenic polyamines with more than two amine groups provide extra positively charged sites, hence facilitating the binding of bile acid oligomers to the negatively charged outer membrane of the bacteria via electrostatic interaction. This in turn promotes more oligomeric bile acid units that can be inserted into the membrane through hydrophobic interaction between bile acids and lipid domains. The noncovalently constructed and separable amphiphilic antimicrobials can avoid the long-term coexistence of microorganisms and antibacterial molecules in different acting modes. Therefore, the noncovalent bile acid oligomers, especially those with higher oligomerization degrees, can be a potential approach to effectively enhance antibacterial activity, improve environmental friendliness, and reduce bacterial drug resistance.

Self-organization of a 4-miktoarm star block copolymer induced by cylindrical confinement

Self-consistent field calculations have been carried out to reveal the self-assembly behavior of a melt of the ABCD star tetrablock copolymer confined within a cylindrical nanopore. The miktoarm star block copolymer exhibits a rich self-assembly behavior with a myriad of interesting three-dimensional ordered phases with the potential to produce advanced nanomaterials. The broad array of ordered mesophases includes helical microstructures, stack of rings/doughnuts, honeycomb structure, and perforated lamella with beads, depending on the individual block fractions and the size of the cylindrical nanopore. Such chiral motifs generated from achiral polymeric molecules are fascinating due to their superior performance in sophisticated opto-electronic devices. The study also demonstrates an interesting morphology, viz. a honeycomb structure, obtained from the self-organization of ABCD star block copolymer molecules with equal block fractions. The system exhibits order-order phase transition covering a range of ordered morphologies by changing either the block fraction or the nanopore radius. A representative phase diagram in terms of block fractions is constructed. These novel ordered microstructures, arising mainly out of structural frustration and confinement-induced entropy loss, can serve as structural scaffolds to host the spatial distribution of nanoparticles resulting into novel nanocomposites with significantly enhanced as well as controllable properties.

100th Anniversary of Macromolecular Science Viewpoint: Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-Based Thermally Responsive Micelles

Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm)-based thermally responsive micelles are of great importance as smart materials for a number of applications such as drug delivery and biosensing, owing to their tunable lower critical solution temperature (LCST). Their design and synthesis in the nanoscale size range have been widely studied, and research interest in their structural and physic-chemical properties is continually growing. In this Viewpoint, representative research on the construction of PNIPAAm-based thermally responsive micelles as well as their applications are highlighted and discussed, which would serve as a good start for newcomers in this field and a positive guide for future research.

Thermo/pH Responsive Star and Linear Copolymers Containing a Cholic Acid-Derived Monomer, N-Isopropylacrylamide and Acrylic Acid: Synthesis and Solution Properties

In this work three CTAs trithiocarbonate-type were synthesized-bifunctional (with PEG), trifunctional (with glycerol), and tetrafunctional (PERT)-and used in the controlled polymerization of 2-(acryloyloxy)ethyl cholate (CAE) via reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. The resulting macroCTAs containing a cholic acid-derived polymer were chain extended with N-isopropylacrylamide with or without acrylic acid. The thermosensitive and/or pH properties of these copolymers were studied in PBS solutions. The copolymers synthesized without poly(acrylic acid) (PAAc) were unstable above the transition temperature. Similar behavior was observed for the copolymer solutions containing PAAc (2% in feed) at lower values of pH showing a faster precipitation above the LCST. On the contrary, copolymer solutions containing PAAc showed great stability at higher pH values for a longer time period at 37 °C. Interestingly, the Dh of the aggregates ranged from 18 to 30 nm in all copolymers (with or without PAAc) below the transition temperature, although the topology and the block sequence in the chain were significantly different.

Methacrylate saccharide-based monomers for dental adhesive systems

The aim of this in vitro study was to synthesize three new methacrylate monomers based on the modification of saccharides structures (glucose-Gluc, sucrose-Sucr and chitosan-Chit) with glycidyl methacrylate, and to use them in the composition of dental adhesives. Three methacrylate saccharide monomers were synthesized and characterized by mid-IR, ¹H and ¹³C NMR, antioxidant activity and cytotoxic effect. Monomers included: one monosaccharide - Gluc-MA; one disaccharide - Sucr-MA; and one polysaccharide - Chit-MA. Primers containing HEMA, methacrylate saccharide monomers at concentrations of 0 (control), 1, 2 or 4 wt%, 60 wt% ethanol aqueous solution (pH3.0) and initiator system were formulated. Primers were used in conjunction with a bond step and composite paste to restore caries-free third molars, and dentin bond strength (24 hours and 6 month of storage in water), and antimicrobial activity (Alamar Blue test) were tested. Degree of conversion (DC) and maximum rate of polymerization (Rp_max) of the primers themselves were also analyzed. The mid-IR, ¹H and ¹³C spectrum confirmed the presence of vinyl group on the structure of saccharides. Chit-MA showed low antioxidant activity and did not present a cytotoxic effect. Gluc-MA and Sucr-MA possess antioxidant and cytotoxic activity, concentration dependent. In the presence of methacrylate saccharide monomers, the primers showed DC comparable to the control group, except Gluc-MA4%, Sucr-MA4% and Chit-MA1%, which showed a range of 64.6 from 58.5 %DC. Rp_max was not statistically different for all the groups (p = 0.01). The bond strength of Sucr-MA1% increased from 25.7 (±2.8) to 40.6 (±5.3) MPa after 6 months of storage. All the synthesized monomers showed some antimicrobial activity after polymerization. Gluc-MA and Chit-MA 4% and Sucr-MA 1, 2 and 4% led to decrease bacterial metabolism. Sucr-MA 1% showed better results regarding the decrease in bacterial metabolism and increasing the bond strength after 6 months of storage.

Advances in thermosensitive polymer-grafted platforms for biomedical applications

Studies on "smart" polymeric material performing environmental stimuli such as temperature, pH, magnetic field, enzyme and photo-sensation have recently paid much attention to practical applications. Among of them, thermo-responsive grafted copolymers, amphiphilic steroids as well as polyester molecules have been utilized in the fabrication of several multifunctional platforms. Indeed, they performed a strikingly functional improvement comparing to some original materials and exhibited a holistic approach for biomedical applications. In case of drug delivery systems (DDS), there has been some successful proof of thermal-responsive grafted platforms on clinical trials such as ThermoDox®, BIND-014, Cynviloq IG-001, Genexol-PM, etc. This review would detail the recent progress and highlights of some temperature-responsive polymer-grafted nanomaterials or hydrogels in the 'smart' DDS that covered from synthetic polymers to nature-driven biomaterials and novel generations of some amphiphilic functional platforms. These approaches could produce several types of smart biomaterials for human health care in future.

Functionalized Hyperbranched Polyethylenimines as Thermosensitive Drug Delivery Nanocarriers with Controlled Transition Temperatures

The low critical solution temperature phase transition (T_c) that is exhibited by thermosensitive polymers is strongly dependent on polymer concentration, pH, ionic strength, as well as the presence of specific molecules or ions in solution. Therefore, polymers with T_c values above 37 °C that are useful for hyperthermia therapy are not readily available. In the present study, temperature-sensitive hyperbranched polyethylenimine derivatives were developed through stepwise functionalization with isobutylamide groups. Although factors such as the concentration of polymer, sodium chloride, phosphate ions, and pH considerably affect the transition temperature, it was possible to obtain a hyperbranched derivative having the required T_c (38-39 °C) for the given aqueous medium required in cell experiments through careful selection of the degree of substitution. This thermosensitive derivative can encapsulate doxorubicin (DOX), a well-known anticancer agent, and was further studied as a temperature-triggered drug delivery system. Although the polymeric carrier showed no notable toxicity at temperatures either below or above the transition temperature, the thermoresponsive drug-loaded formulation exhibited increased DOX cellular uptake and improved in vitro cytotoxicity at 40 °C.

Preparation of a Mini-Library of Thermo-Responsive Star (NVCL/NVP-VAc) Polymers with Tailored Properties Using a Hexafunctional Xanthate RAFT Agent

A mini-library of star-shaped thermoresponsive polymers having six arms was prepared using a hexafunctional xanthate by reversible addition⁻fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. Star polymers with homopolymeric arms of poly(N-vinylcaprolactam) (PNVCL), copolymeric arms of poly(N-vinylcaprolactam-co-N-vinylpyrrolidone) (PNVCL-co-PNVP) and also arms of block copolymers of PNVCL-b-PVAc, (PNVCL-co-PNVP)-b-PVAc, and combinations of them changing the order of the block was achieved exploiting the R-RAFT synthetic methodology (or R-group approach), wherein the thiocarbonyl group is transferred to the polymeric chain end. Taking advantage of the RAFT benefits, the molecular weight of the star polymers was controlled (Mn = 11,880⁻153,400 g/mol) to yield star polymers of different sizes and lower critical solution temperature (LCST) values. Removing the xanthate group of the star polymers allowed for the introduction of specific functional groups at the ends of the star arms and resulted in an increase of the LCST values. Star PNVCL-b-PVAc diblock copolymers with PVAc contents of 5⁻26 mol % were prepared; the hydrophobic segment (PVAc) is located at the end of the star arms. Interestingly, when the PVAc content was 5⁻7 mol %, the hydrodynamic diameter (Dh) value of the aggregates formed in water was almost the same sa the Dh of the corresponding PNVCL star homopolymers. It is proposed that these star block copolymers self-assemble into single flowerlike micelles, showing great stability in aqueous solution. Star block copolymers with the PVAc hydrophobic block in the core of the star, such as PVAc-b-(PNVCL-co-PNVP), form micellar aggregates in aqueous solution with Dh values in the range from ~115 to 245 nm while maintaining a thermoresponsive behavior. Micellar aggregates of selected star polymers were used to encapsulate methotrexate (MTX) showing their potential in the temperature controlled release of this antineoplasic drug. The importance of the order in which each block constituent is introduced in the arms of the star polymers for their solution/aggregation behavior is demonstrated.

A new class of dual responsive self-healable hydrogels based on a core crosslinked ionic block copolymer micelle prepared via RAFT polymerization and Diels-Alder "click" chemistry

Amphiphilic diblock copolymers of poly(furfuryl methacrylate) (PFMA) with cationic poly(2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyltrimethyl ammonium chloride) (PFMA-b-PMTAC) and anionic poly(sodium 4-vinylbenzenesulfonate) (PFMA-b-PSS) were prepared via reversible addition fragmentation chain-transfer (RAFT) polymerization by using PFMA as a macro-RAFT agent. The formation of the block copolymer was confirmed by FTIR and ¹H NMR analyses. In water, the amphiphilic diblock copolymers, (PFMA-b-PMTAC) and (PFMA-b-PSS), formed micelles with PFMA in the core and the rest of the hydrophilic polymers like PMTAC and PSS in the corona. The PFMA core was crosslinked by using Diels-Alder (DA) "Click" chemistry in water at 60 °C where bismaleimide acted as a crosslinker. Afterwards, both the core crosslinked micelles were mixed at an almost equal charge ratio which was determined by zeta potential analysis to prepare the self-assembled hydrogel. The de-crosslinking of the hydrophobic PFMA core in the self-assembled hydrogel via rDA reaction took place at 165 °C as determined from DSC analysis. This hydrogel showed self-healing behavior using ionic interaction (in the presence of water) and DA chemistry (in the presence of heat).

Nano-Star-Shaped Polymers for Drug Delivery Applications

With the advancement of polymer engineering, complex star-shaped polymer architectures can be synthesized with ease, bringing about a host of unique properties and applications. The polymer arms can be functionalized with different chemical groups to fine-tune the response behavior or be endowed with targeting ligands or stimuli responsive moieties to control its physicochemical behavior and self-organization in solution. Rheological properties of these solutions can be modulated, which also facilitates the control of the diffusion of the drug from these star-based nanocarriers. However, these star-shaped polymers designed for drug delivery are still in a very early stage of development. Due to the sheer diversity of macromolecules that can take on the star architectures and the various combinations of functional groups that can be cross-linked together, there remain many structure-property relationships which have yet to be fully established. This review aims to provide an introductory perspective on the basic synthetic methods of star-shaped polymers, the properties which can be controlled by the unique architecture, and also recent advances in drug delivery applications related to these star candidates.

Star-Shaped Copolymers Based on Poly(N-vinylcaprolactam) and their Use as Nanocarriers of Methotrexate

Star-shaped poly(N-vinylcaprolactam)-block-poly(ethylhexylacrylate)-block-polyethylene glycol (PNVCL-b-PEHA-b-PEG) triblock copolymers and star-shaped poly(N-vinylcaprolactam)-block-polyethylene glycol (PNVCL-b-PEG) diblock copolymers were synthesized by reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. The resulting star block copolymers were characterized using 1H NMR and UV-vis spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, and dynamic light scattering. The star-shaped PNVCL-b-PEG and PNVCL-b-PEHA-b-PEG block copolymers self-assemble spontaneously into aggregates in water. The aggregates formed ranged from ~17 to 135 nm in diameter and were used to encapsulate methotrexate (MTX). It was observed that the aggregates from PNVCL-b-PEHA-b-PEG copolymers exhibited a higher drug loading and a lower release of MTX (19 wt-% and 54 %) as compared with star copolymers without PEHA (5 wt-% and 81 %) after 24 h at a temperature below their lower critical solution temperature values.

Core Cross-linked Star Polymers for Temperature/pH Controlled Delivery of 5-Fluorouracil

RAFT polymerization with cross-linking was used to prepare core cross-linked star polymers bearing temperature sensitive arms. The arms consisted of a diblock copolymer containingN-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) and 4-methacryloyloxy benzoic acid (4MBA) in the temperature sensitive block and poly(hexyl acrylate) forming the second hydrophobic block, while ethyleneglycol dimethacrylate was used to form the core. The acid comonomer provides pH sensitivity to the arms and also increases the transition temperature of polyNIPAAm to values in the range of 40 to 46°C. Light scattering and atomic force microscopy studies suggest that loose core star polymers were obtained. The star polymers were loaded with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), an anticancer agent, in values of up to 30 w/w%.In vitrorelease experiments were performed at different temperatures and pH values, as well as with heating and cooling temperature cycles. Faster drug release was obtained at 42°C or pH 6, compared to normal physiological conditions (37°C, pH 7.4). The drug carriers prepared acted as nanopumps changing the release kinetics of 5-FU when temperatures cycles were applied, in contrast with release rates at a constant temperature. The prepared core cross-linked star polymers represent advanced drug delivery vehicles optimized for 5-FU with potential application in cancer treatment.

Passive targeting of thermosensitive diblock copolymer micelles to the lungs: synthesis and characterization of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-block-poly(ε-caprolactone)

BACKGROUND

Amphiphilic poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-block-poly(ε-caprolactone) (PNiPAAm-b-PCL) copolymers were synthesized by ring-opening polymerization to form thermosensitive micelles as nanocarriers for bioimaging and carboplatin delivery.

RESULTS

The critical micelle concentration increased from 1.8 to 3.5 mg/l following the decrease of the PNiPAAm chain length. The copolymers revealed a lower critical solution temperature (LCST) between 33 and 40°C. The copolymers self-assembled to form spherical particles of 146-199 nm in diameter. Carboplatin in micelles exhibited a slower release at 37°C relative to that at 25°C due to the gel layer formation on the micellar shell above the LCST. The micelles containing dye or carboplatin were intravenously injected into the rats for in vivo bioimaging and drug biodistribution. The bioimaging profiles showed a significant accumulation of micelles in the lungs. The micelles could minimize the reticuloendothelial system (RES) recognition of the dye. In vivo biodistribution demonstrated an improved pulmonary accumulation of carboplatin from 2.5 to 3.4 μg/mg by the micelles as compared to the control solution. Carboplatin accumulation in the heart and kidneys was reduced after encapsulation by the micelles.

CONCLUSION

This study supports the potential of PNiPAAm-b-PCL micelles to passively target the lungs and attenuate RES uptake and possible side effects.

A micelle-like structure of poloxamer-methotrexate conjugates as nanocarrier for methotrexate delivery

The purpose of this study was to develop a novel featured and flexible methotrexate (MTX) formulation, in which MTX was physically entrapped and chemically conjugated in the same drug delivery system. A series of poloxamer-MTX (p-MTX) conjugates was synthesized, wherein MTX was grafted to poloxamer through an ester bond. p-MTX conjugates could self-assemble into micelle-like structures in aqueous environment and the MTX end was in the inner-core of micelles. Moreover, free MTX could be physically entrapped into p-MTX micelles hydrophobic core region to increase the total drug loading. Importantly, the resulting MTX-loaded p-MTX micelles showed a biphasic release of MTX, with a relative fast release of the entrapped MTX (about 6-7h) followed by a sustained release of the conjugated MTX. The pharmacokinetics study showed that the mean residence time (MRT) was extended in the case of MTX-loaded p-MTX micelles, indicating a delayed MTX elimination from the bloodstream and prolonged in vivo residence time. Besides, the area under curve (AUC) of MTX-loaded p-MTX micelles was greater than free MTX, indicating a drug bioavailability improvement. Overall, MTX-loaded p-MTX micelles might be a promising nanosized drug delivery system for the cancer therapy.

Synthesis, micellization, and thermally-induced macroscopic micelle aggregation of poly(vinyl chloride)-g-poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) amphiphilic copolymer

PVC-g-PNIPAM amphiphilic copolymers with controlled graft lengths and densities are synthesized, which form unique macroscopic aggregates with well-defined 3D shapes in dilute aqueous solution above the LCST.

Synthesis and characterization of S-PCL-PDMAEMA for co-delivery of pDNA and DOX

Similar numbers of repeating units of PCL and pDMAEMA were controlled between L-PCL-PDMAEMA and S-PCL-PDMAEMA. DOX-loaded S-PCL-PDMAEMA micelles showed a better cell-killing effect than DOX-loaded L-PCL-PDMAEMA in four cell lines. The co-delivery of DOX and pDNA was confirmed by CLSM.

Temperature-responsive polymer/carbon nanotube hybrids: smart conductive nanocomposite films for modulating the bioelectrocatalysis of NADH

A temperature-sensitive polymer/carbon nanotube interface with switchable bioelectrocatalytic capability was fabricated by self-assembly of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-grafted multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNT-g-PNIPAm) onto the PNIPAm-modified substrate. Electron microscopy and electrochemical measurements revealed that these fairly thick (>6 μm) and highly porous nanocomposite films exhibited high conductivity and electrocatalytic activity. The morphological transitions in both the tethered PNIPAm chains on a substrate and those polymers wrapping around the MWNT surface resulted in the opening, closing, or tuning of its permeability, and simultaneously an electron-transfer process took place through the channels formed in the nanostructure in response to temperature change. By combining the good electron-transfer and electrochemical catalysis capabilities, the large surface area, and good biocompatibility of MWNTs with the responsive features of PNIPAm, reversible temperature-controlled bioelectrocatalysis of 1,4-dihydro-β-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide with improved sensitivity has been demonstrated by cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements. The mechanism behind this approach was studied by Raman spectroscopy, in situ attenuated total reflection FTIR spectroscopy, and contact angle measurements. The results also suggested that the synergetic or cooperative interactions of PNIPAm with MWNTs gave rise not only to an increase in surface wettability, but also to the enhancement of the interfacial thermoresponsive behavior. This bioelectrocatalytic "smart" system has potential applications in the design of biosensors and biofuel cells with externally controlled activity. Furthermore, this concept might be proposed for biomimetics, interfacial engineering, bioelectronic devices, and so forth.

Aggregation and thermoresponsive properties of new star block copolymers with a cholic acid core

Poly(allyl glycidyl ether) (PAGE) and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) blocks were sequentially grown via anionic polymerization to form four block copolymer arms on a cholic acid (CA) core, yielding star block copolymers (CA(AGE(8)-b-EG(n))(4)) with low polydispersities (ca. 1.05). The introduction of PAGE segments into CA(PEG)(4) significantly reduced their crystallinity. The polymers can aggregate in water at room temperature above their critical aggregation concentration. The copolymers are thermoresponsive; their behavior in aqueous solutions was studied by the use of UV-visible spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, and transmission electron microscopy. Their cloud points vary from 13 to 55 °C with increasing length of the PEG segments. Double thermoresponsive behavior was observed with short PEG segments because of a two-step transition process: small micelles are formed upon heating and then further aggregate into micellar clusters through the association of PEG chains.

Novel biotinylated bile acid amphiphiles: micellar aggregates formation and interaction with hepatocytes

Amphiphilic bile acids linked through an oligoethylene glycol to a biotin moiety were synthesized and shown to create micellar structures in aqueous environment, interact with avidin and be efficiently incorporated into hepatocyte cells, suggesting their potential as a drug delivery system against liver diseases.

Docetaxel-loaded pluronic p123 polymeric micelles: in vitro and in vivo evaluation

In this work, novel docetaxel (DTX) -loaded Tween 80-free Pluronic P123 (P123) micelles with improved therapeutic effect were developed. The freeze-dried DTX-loaded P123 micelles (DTX-micelles) were analyzed by HPLC, TEM and DLS to determine the DTX loading, micelle morphology, size, respectively. The in vitro cytotoxic activity of DTX-micelles in HepG2, A549 and malignant melanoma B16 cells were evaluated by MTT assay. The corresponding in vivo antitumor efficacy was assessed in Kunming mice bearing B16 tumor after intravenous administration. The DTX-loading and efficiency into the micelles were 2.12 ± 0.09% and 86.34 ± 3.32%, respectively. The DTX-micelles were spherical with a mean particle size of 50.7 nm and size distribution from 22 to 84 nm, which suggested that they should be able to selectively accumulate in solid tumors by means of EPR effect, with a zeta potential of -12.45 ± 3.24 mV. The in vitro release behavior of DTX from DTX-micelles followed the Weibull equation. Compared with Duopafei(®), DTX-micelles showed higher cytotoxicity against HepG2 (P < 0.01), A549 (P < 0.05) and B16 (P < 0.01) cells. In addition, DTX-micelles exhibited remarkable antitumor activity and reduced toxicity on B16 tumor in vivo. The tumor inhibition rates (TIR) of DTX-micelles was 91.6% versus 76.3% of Duopafei(®) (P < 0.01). These results suggested that P123 micelles might be considered as an effective DTX delivery system.
