Abstract
OBJECTIVE Mobile health (mHealth), defined as the use of mobile phones or applications in healthcare, has been developed to enhance asthma care; yet implementation is inconsistent, and few studies have focused on provider perspectives on use in daily practice. The purpose of this study was to explore primary care pediatric provider perspectives regarding mHealth use in clinical practice for children with asthma. METHODS A qualitative, descriptive approach was utilized to perform semi-structured interviews on asthma mHealth use with providers caring for children with asthma. Interview transcripts were coded by two independent investigators and any differences were reconciled. Interviews continued until thematic saturation was achieved. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS Seventeen pediatric providers were recruited and interviewed. Three themes identified included implementation benefits, implementation barriers, and reporting desires, with 11 subthemes. Many subthemes were consistent across providers (e.g. self-management benefits and electronic medical record integration), while others such as provider clinical burden and approach to integrating mHealth data reports into daily workflow demonstrated variability. Provider perspectives highlight the potential of mHealth applications in asthma self-management while offering challenges related to clinical burden and suggestions for reporting and workflow integration. These results provide valuable perspectives on mHealth use and reporting to ensure provider efficiency and technology-enhanced asthma care. This study investigates pediatric provider perspectives on asthma mobile health use and reporting in daily practice, a topic that has not sufficiently been explored within the literature. Results can guide best practices, encourage more consistent use, and maximize the benefits of asthma mHealth tools by providers.

Abstract
Introduction Asthma is a chronic condition that affects millions of adolescents and young adults (AYA) worldwide. The transition from pediatric to adult care presents unique challenges for this population, affecting their self-management, quality of life and overall health outcomes. This systematic review aims to consolidate the available evidence on challenges encountered by AYA with asthma during the transition period from child to AYA and on the key elements of transitional care for AYAs with asthma including the outcomes achieved, ultimately enhancing outcomes. Methodology A systematic literature search was performed in PubMed, Embase, Medline, Scopus, and Web of Science from their inception to October 2, 2023, to provide an overview of currently available literature. Primary quantitative and qualitative studies, published in peer-reviewed journals that focused on AYA with a confirmed diagnosis of asthma were considered if they focused on challenges encountered by AYA with asthma during the transition process and/or components of transitional care and their outcomes assessed. Results A total of 855 studies were initially identified and 6 articles were included in this systematic literature review. Several challenges experienced by AYA with asthma were identified including maintaining medication adherence, the need to take responsibility and being involved, understanding their condition and its severity, feeling left out of the care system, and experiencing a lack of engagement. The identified transitional care components included a standardized form for medical data transmission, a joint consultation and to offer several longer consultations. Conclusion Several international guidelines for asthma care recommend implementing transition programs in the care for AYA with asthma. Such transition programs should include a comprehensive and individualized approach addressing several challenges faced, to ensure optimal outcomes post-transition. However, to date, data on effective components of transitional care facilitating good outcomes were found to be limited. This systematic review underscores the need for larger studies evaluating the effect of the components of transition programs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Individuals with asthma experience increased depressive symptoms, which is associated with deleterious health outcomes. No studies have examined depressive symptom trajectories among individuals with asthma despite increased risk. This study expanded prior literature by identifying the following: (1) depressive symptoms trajectories for individuals with and without asthma and (2) predictors of baseline levels and changes in symptoms across time for individuals with asthma. METHODS Adolescents with (N = 965) and without (N = 7,392) asthma self-reported on depressive symptoms (CESD-9) across development. Covariates included: demographics and persistence of asthma. Latent growth curve modeling (LGCM) was used to identify depressive symptom trajectories and their predictors. RESULTS A multigroup LCGM identified no significant differences between depressive symptom trajectories of individuals with and without asthma. Depressive symptoms followed a quadratic shape across time for individuals with asthma (Mintercept = 5.73, p < .00; Mlinear = -0.38,p < .001; Mquad = 0.03, p < .001), with a linear deceleration in depressive symptoms during adolescence and an acceleration of symptoms into adulthood. Next predictors of depressive trajectories among individuals with asthma were examined. Female sex (B = 0.58, p < .001), lower parent education (B = -0.57, p < .001), older age (B = 0.19, p < .001), and identifying as Black (B = 0.31, p = .04) were associated with greater baseline depressive symptoms. Older individuals exhibited faster linear symptom decelerations (B = -0.56, p < .001) and faster symptom accelerations (B = 0.73, p < .001). American Indian (AIAN) individuals exhibited faster linear symptom decelerations (B = -1.98, p = .005) and faster quadratic accelerations (B = 3.33, p = .007). DISCUSSION Our results suggest that the depressive symptom trajectories of individuals with asthma are curvilinear and similar to individuals without asthma. When examining predictors of depressive symptom trajectories for those with asthma, socioeconomic disadvantage and racial marginalization were associated with greater baseline depressive symptoms. Although AIAN youth demonstrated more favorable trajectories in adolescence, they also exhibited worse trajectories across young adulthood and adulthood. Findings suggest the need to better understand the impact of multilevel risk and protective factors on depressive symptoms trajectories for individuals with asthma, especially marginalized populations.

Abstract
Objective: Proper use of inhaled medications is essential for management of asthma, as inhaled therapies are recommended as first-line for both prevention and treatment of asthma symptoms. Optimizing adherence requires identifying and understanding multiple layers of systemic complexity to obtaining and using these therapies and offering specific solutions to address these barriers. Bronfenbrenner's socio-ecological model provides a framework for examining multilevel systems - both internal and external - that contribute to the management of childhood asthma. The four levels in this model consist of factors related to the individual, interpersonal relationships, organizational entities, and societal structures and rules. This narrative review identifies influences and factors related to asthma inhaler adherence by each level and offers evidence-based solutions to each obstacle.Data Sources: We conducted PubMed searches to identify relevant articles for barriers and solutions impacting asthma control at each level of the socio-ecological model.Study Selection: Common barriers to asthma control at each model level were identified. Pertinent studies for each barrier were identified and reviewed by the writing group for inclusion into the narrative review.Results: For each level of the socio-ecological model, three primary issues were identified based on the literature review. Approaches for addressing each issue in an evidence-based, systematic fashion are presented.Conclusion: Understanding the obstacles and potential interventions to achieve proper use of inhaled medications is a critical step necessary to develop and implement systematic solutions aimed at improving asthma control and morbidity for the more than 6 million affected children in the United States.
