Abstract
BACKGROUND Vision has a key role in children's neuromotor, cognitive and social development. Children with visual impairment attain developmental milestones at later stages and are at higher risk of developing psychological disorders and social withdrawn. AIMS We performed a scoping review to summarize the mostly used instruments assessing the impact of visual impairment on quality of life, functioning and participation of children and adolescents. In addition, the main findings of the included studies are discussed. METHODS AND PROCEDURES We searched for papers assessing quality of life, functioning and participation of children and adolescents with visual impairment from 0 to 18 years old conducted between 2000 and 2023. OUTCOMES AND RESULTS In total, 69 studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in the review. Child self-report, caregivers-proxy and self-report questionnaires as well as interviews were used. The results showed that quality of life, functioning and participation are significantly reduced in children and adolescents with visual impairment, and that the impact depends on different factors (e.g., severity of the impairment, age). CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS Considering the significant impact of visual impairment on quality of life, functioning and participation on this population, it is fundamental to develop integrated and multi-dimensional assessment programs that evaluate the impact of visual impairment on those dimensions considering different contexts of life (e.g., family, school, leisure time). WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS?: The present review aims to give an overview of what is known about the impact of visual impairment on quality of life, functioning and participation of children and adolescents. We assumed a biopsychosocial perspective which, in line with the definition of health by the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (WHO, 2001), considered how body functions and structures, functioning, participation and environmental factors dynamically interact to define the health, or the disease, status of a person at a certain moment of life. We reported the most used instruments for the assessment of quality of life, participation, and functioning, with a specific interest on Patient-Reported Outcome Measures and self-report measures. By reporting the different instruments used, we gave a broad overview about the available tools that can be used in clinical as well as in research field to assess quality of life, functioning and participation in this population. Additionally, the review of the existing literature allowed us to demonstrate that those dimensions are negatively impacted by visual impairment and thus they should be considered in the assessment programs. Specifically, there is the need to provide more integrated assessment programs that investigate the impact of visual impairment on children and adolescents' social and emotional wellbeing, everyday functioning and social relationship, considering their subjective experience together with the one of caregivers, teachers, health care professionals, and other relevant adults involved in their life. Additionally, it is essential to plan and implement multidimensional assessment programs that consider how all areas of life are differently impacted by visual impairment.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The structure-function relation between magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and visual impairment (VI) in children with cerebral palsy (CP) has not been fully unravelled. The present systematic review aims to summarize the relation between brain lesions on MRI and VI in children and adolescents with CP. METHODS PubMed, Embase, Web of Science Core Collection, and Cochrane Database were systematically searched according to the PRISMA checklist. A total of 45 articles met the inclusion criteria. RESULTS White matter lesions were most frequently associated with VI. Only 25 studies described lesions within specific structures, mainly in the optic radiations. Only four studies reported on the thalamus. 8.4% of children with CP showed no brain abnormalities on MRI. Diffusion-weighted MRI studies showed that decreased structural connectivity in the optic radiations, superior longitudinal fasciculus, posterior limb of the internal capsule, and occipital lobe is associated with more severe VI. CONCLUSIONS All types of brain lesions lead to visual dysfunctions, arguing for a comprehensive visual assessment in all children with CP. Whereas white matter damage is a well-known contributor, the exact contribution of specific visual structures requires further investigation, to enable early prediction, detection, and intervention.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The purpose of this review is to explore the evidence and efficacy of two trends in early childhood intervention services: the family-centered model and the use of tele-intervention. METHODS A systematic review was carried out following the PRISMA methodology and using three databases: Web of Science, PubMed and Scopus. The studies included were those aimed at children from 0 to 6 years of age, focused on early intervention, and which alluded to the family-centered model and/or tele-intervention. RESULTS a total of 33 studies were included. Five main themes were identified: (1) The participation of children and family is facilitated and improved by the family-centered model of care; (2) the feeling of competence, self-efficacy, satisfaction and empowerment in professionals and families have a positive impact on quality of life; (3) the use of tele-intervention as a tool for prevention and intervention; (4) preparation for telepractice can improve the development of commitment; (5) tele-intervention as a possible solution to contextual barriers. CONCLUSIONS Tele-intervention in pediatrics is presented as a tool inherent to the family-centered model since its implementation involves several common strategies. Future lines of research should explore the use of this tool as a possible solution to contextual barriers.

Abstract
Purpose Children with cerebral visual impairment (CVI) present with delayed developmental milestones. Pediatricians and pediatric neurologists are usually the first point of contact, and eye exam largely remains referral based. This study documented the visual concerns reported by parents of children with CVI visiting a pediatric neurology clinic. Additionally, we investigated the association between visual concerns, functional vision measures and visual functions. Patients and Methods A cross-sectional study was undertaken in children with CVI (chronological age range: 7 months-7 years). Visual concerns reported by the parents/caregivers were documented as open-ended statements. Additionally, a functional vision assessment was conducted using the CVI Range instrument with phase 1, 2 and 3 indicating low, moderate and high visual functioning, respectively. Grating acuity and contrast sensitivity were measured using Teller acuity cards-II and Ohio contrast cards respectively. Results A total of 73 children (mean age of 2.84 ± 1.87 years) were recruited. Sixty-eight parents reported visual concerns that were broadly grouped into 14 unique concerns. Nineteen parents (27.9%) reported more than one visual concern. Difficulty maintaining eye contact and recognizing faces were the top two visual concerns in phases 1 and 2. Missing objects in the lower visual field was the top concern in phase 3. A larger number of visual concerns were reported in phase 1 (43%) than phase 2 (40.6%) and phase 3 (16.2%). Multiple regression analysis revealed that grating acuity, contrast sensitivity and chronological age were able to predict the functional vision, F (3, 55) = 63.0, p < 0.001, r2 = 0.77. Conclusion Targeted questions enquiring about eye contact and face recognition can be included in history elicitation in children with CVI in pediatric neurology clinics. In the presence of visual concerns, it will be important to assess grating acuity and contrast sensitivity. A poor functional vision score requires referral for eye examination and vision rehabilitation services.
