Abstract
In the present study, the synthesis of six new Ni(II) and Pd(II) complexes with three derived sulfamethoxazole drug ligands is reported. The coordination mode, geometry, and chemical formula of all the synthesized compounds have been determined by elemental analysis, mass spectrometry, emission atomic spectroscopy, conductivity measurements, magnetic susceptibility, FTIR, TGA, 1H-NMR, electronic absorption spectroscopy, SEM-EDX along with DFT calculations. The Schiff Base ligands were found to be bidentate and coordinated to the metal ions through sulfonamidic nitrogen and oxazolic nitrogen atoms leading to a square planar geometry for palladium (II) while a distorted octahedral geometry around Nickel (II) ion was suggested. Biological applications of the new complexes including in vitro antimicrobial, antioxidant and anticancer properties were investigated. The results showed that the new metal (II) compounds exhibit remarkable antibacterial inhibition activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, in addition to noticeable DPPH free radical scavenging activity. The in vitro cytotoxicity assay of the complexes against cell lines of chronic myelogenous leukaemia (K562) showed promising potential for the application of the coordination compounds in antitumor therapy. Subsequently, to evaluate the pharmaceutical potential of the metal-containing compounds, pharmacokinetics and toxicity were studied by ADMET simulations while interactions between the complexes and bacterial proteins were evaluated by molecular docking.

Abstract
2-Formylpyridine thiosemicarbazone - iron (III) chelates [F e L 2 ] C l • 2 H 2 O {L = L1 (C1) [HL 1 = 4-(4-Nitrophenyl)-1-((pyridin-2-yl)methylene)thiosemicarbazide] and L = L2 (C2) [HL 2 = 4-(2,5-Dimethoxyphenyl)-1-((pyridin-2-yl)methylene)thiosemicarbazide]} were prepared. The two ligand anions in each complex resulted in saturation of the iron coordination number and consequently the existence of these complexes as 1:1 electrolytes. As well, the iron in these complexes exhibits low-spin electronic configuration. X-ray crystallography of complex C1 indicated its triclinic crystal system and P1 ‾ space group. In addition, it proved the ligation through a thiol sulfur atom and two nitrogen atoms of pyridine and azomethine groups. This is while the presence of two water molecules of crystallization in the complex structure was also indicated. The ligand HL 1 was selected for cytotoxicity screening against human MCF-7, A-549, HEPG-2 and HCT-116 cancer cells and the most enhanced activities were detected against the breast cells. Against these cells, the compounds HL 1 , HL 2 , C1 and C2 induced cytotoxicity, respectively, with IC50 values of 52.4, 145.4, 34.3 and 62.0 μM. However, against the healthy BHK cells, HL 1 and HL 2 caused cytotoxicity, respectively, with IC50 values of 54.8 and 110.6 μM and cytotoxicity with percent viabilities of 56.7 and 55.4% of the BHK cells by the complexes (137.4 μM of C1 and 131.9 μM of C2) was determined. These activities against MCF-7 cells are less significant compared with the measured value for doxorubicin. But this standard is more toxic to normal cells than the thiosemicarbazones (IC50 (doxorubicin) = 9.66 μM against MCF-7 cells and 36.42 μM against BHK cells).

Abstract
From the reaction of ceftriaxone 1 antibiotic with 2,6-diaminopyridine 2 a ceftriaxone-based Schiff base (H2L,3) was obtained and its transition metal complexes were synthesized. Spectroscopic and physicochemical techniques, namely, UV-visible, FT-IR, 1H NMR, EPR, mass spectrometry, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, together with elemental and thermal analyses, were used to find out the binding mode and composition of these complexes. The ceftriaxone-based Schiff base 3 behaves as a monoanionic tridentate N,N,O ligand. Spectral and magnetic data suggest an octahedral geometry for all complexes and the general formulae [M(HL)(OAc)(H2O)2] (M(II) = Mn2+4, Co2+5, Ni2+6, Cu2+7, Zn2+8), are proposed for them. All compounds were screened for antibacterial activity using both the agar disc diffusion method and the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC). It was found that complex 8 exhibited the most promising bactericidal activity against S. aureus (MIC = 0.0048 μmol/ml) and E. coli (MIC = 0.0024 μmol/ml). It is more active than the free ligand 1 (MIC = 0.0560 μmol/ml for S. aureus and 0.0140 μmol/ml for E. coli). These MIC results were compared with those obtained using similar zinc(II) Schiff base complexes, and with the values obtained using ceftriaxone conjugated with silver and gold nanoparticles (NPs), using earlier published data. Synthesized metal complexes exhibited LC50 values >1000 ppm indicating their nontoxicity against brine shrimp nauplii (Artemia Salina).

Abstract
New mixed Fe(III) and Zn(II) complexes with isonitrosoacetophenone (HINAP) and l-amino acids (such as l-histidine, l-phenylalanine and l-proline) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, UV-Vis, IR and ESR spectroscopy and thermal analyses. The values of molar conductance of the complexes in DMSO solution at 10-3 M concentration indicate their non-electrolyte nature. IR spectroscopy has revealed the coordination of deprotonated ligands to metal through nitrogen and oxygen atoms in an N2O2 arrangement. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed using the hybrid functional of Truhlar and Zhao (M06) with basis set of double zeta quality LANL2DZ to evaluate the cis and trans coordination modes and to ascertain dipole moment, HOMO-LUMO energy gap, chemical hardness, softness and electrophilicity. The magnetic moments and ESR measurements suggest that there is an admixture of S = 5/2 and S = 1/2 spins in Fe(III) complexes. UV-Visible spectra indicate a distorted octahedral geometry around the metal ions. Thermal analyses show the presence of hydrated and coordinated water. The antimicrobial activity was investigated against (G+ and G-) bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and fungi (Candida albicans). The iron and zinc complexes were found to be more active against Gram-positive than Gram negative bacteria. They also show considerable growth inhibition against the fungi tested. In vitro antitumor activity assayed against cancer cell lines of the HEP2 type (cancer cells of the larynx) exhibited significant toxicity of the ligands and their mixed complexes.

Abstract
Mixed-ligand metal (II) (M=Cu, Fe, Co and Zn) complexes containing 2-butanone thiosemicarbazone and 1, 10-phenanthroline have been synthesized and characterized by melting point, FT-IR, 1H-NMR, UV-spectrophotometry and molar conductance measurements. All the complexes were soluble in DMSO and DMF. They were thermally stable with high melting points. The computational studies of the complexes were also performed to assess toxicity potential, bioactivity score prediction and drug likeliness assessment based on various drug filters. All the complexes showed no Veber's violations whereas only Cu complex showed one Lipinski's violation. Almost all synthesized compounds were predicted to have no toxic effects. Some of them showed positive bioactivity as enzyme inhibitors. Molecular docking of the complexes was also performed against ribonucleotide diphosphate reductase (RR) and topoisomerase II (Topo II) for minimum binding energy (kcal/mol) calculations. Cu complex was found to have minimum binding energy (-101.13 kcal/mol) released on interaction with Topo II showing a high affinity towards the enzyme, whereas Fe complex had the lowest binding energy (-99.8349 kcal/mol) when docked with RR. The results were compared with two standard drugs i.e. doxorubicin HCl and tetracycline. The ligand was tested for its potential anticancer activity against MDA-MB-231 cell line using MTT assay. Antibacterial activity of the complexes was tested against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli using the disc diffusion method. Cu (II) complex showed maximum activity against the MDA cells and also exhibited mild antibacterial activity against S. aureus.

Abstract
2-Butanone thiosemicarbazone ligand was prepared by condensation reaction between thiosemicarbazide and butanone. The ligand was characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FT-IR, mass spectrometry and UV spectroscopic studies. Docking studies were performed to study inhibitory action against topoisomerase II (Topo II) and ribonucleoside diphosphate reductase (RR) enzymes. Inhibition constants (Ki ) of the ligand were 437.87 and 327.4 μM for the two enzymes, respectively. The ligand was tested for its potential anticancer activity against two cancer cell lines MDA-MB-231 and A549 using MTT assay and was found to exhibit good activity at higher doses with an IC50 = 80 μM against human breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231. On the other hand, no significant activity was obtained against the lung carcinoma cell line A549. Antibacterial activity of the ligand was tested against Staphylococcus aureus and E. coli using the disc diffusion method. Ligand did not exhibit any significant antibacterial activity. Four complexes of Co(III), Fe(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II) were prepared with the ligand and characterized by various spectroscopic studies. Low molar conductance values were obtained for all complexes displaying non-electrolyte nature except in Co(III) complex. As expected, complexation with metal ions significantly increased the cytotoxicity of the ligand against the tested cell lines viz. IC50 values of <20 μM for Co, Fe, and Zn complexes and approx. 80 μM against MDA cells versus IC50 value of <20 μM for Co and Cu complexes and that of 30 and 50 μM for Fe and Zn complexes, respectively, against A549 cells. The Cu complex was found to be active against E. coli and S. aureus with MIC values in the range of 6-10 mg/mL. Other than Cu, only Co complex was found to possess antibacterial activity with MIC values of 5-10 mg/mL when tested against S. aureus. Bioactivity score and Prediction of Activity Spectra for Substances (PASS) analysis also depicted the drug-like nature of ligand and complexes.

Complexes of manganese(II) and copper(II) of general composition M(L)2X2 have been synthesized [L=2-acetyl thiophene thiosemicarbazone and X=Cl(-) and NO3(-)]. The elemental analysis, molar conductance measurements, magnetic susceptibility measurements, mass, IR, UV, NMR and EPR spectral studies of the compounds led to the conclusion that the ligand acts as a bidentate manner. The Schiff's base ligand forms hexacoordinated complexes having octahedral geometry for Mn(II) and tetragonal geometry for Cu(II) complexes. The thermal studies suggested that the complexes are more stable as compared to ligand. In molecular modelling the geometries of Schiff's base and metal complexes were fully optimized with respect to the energy using the 6-31g(d,p) basis set. The mycological studies of the compounds were examined against the plant pathogenic fungi i.e. Rhizoctonia bataticola, Macrophomina phaseolina, Fusarium odum.

Abstract
Complexes of copper(II) and nickel(II) of general composition M(L)2X2, have been synthesized [where L=3-Bromoacetophenone thiosemicarbazone and X=CH3COO(-), Cl(-) and NO3(-)]. All the complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, magnetic moments, IR, electronic and EPR spectral studies. The ligand behaved as bidentate and coordinated through sulfur of -C=S group and nitrogen atoms of -C=N group. The copper(II) and nickel(II) complexes were found to have magnetic moments 1.94-2.02 BM, 2.96-3.02 BM respectively which was corresponding to one and two unpaired electrons respectively. The molar conductance of the complexes in solution of DMSO lies in the range of 10-20 Ω(-1) cm(2) mol(-1) indicating their non-electrolytic behavior. On the basis of EPR, electronic and infrared spectral studies, tetragonal geometry has been assigned for copper(II) complexes and an octahedral geometry for nickel(II) complexes. The values of Nephelauxetic parameter β lie in the range 0.19-0.37 which indicated the covalent character in metal ligand 'σ' bond. Synthesized ligand and its copper(II) and nickel(II) complexes have also been screened against different bacterial and fungal species which suggested that complexes are more active than the ligands in antimicrobial activities.

Abstract
Complexes of copper(II) and nickel(II) of general composition M(L)2X2, have been synthesized with the ligand 1-Tetralone thiosemicarbazone (where L=1-Tetralone thiosemicarbazone and X=Cl(-),1/2SO4(2-)). The molar conductance of the complexes in fresh solution of DMSO lies in the range of 10-20Ω(-1)cm(2)mol(-1) indicating their non-electrolytic behavior. Thus, the complexes may be formulated as [M(L2)X2]. Ligand was characterized by mass, NMR, IR and single crystallographic studies. All the complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, magnetic moments, IR, electronic and EPR spectral studies. The IR spectral data of ligand indicated the involvement of sulfur and azomethine nitrogen in coordination to the central metal ion. The copper(II) and nickel(II) complexes were found to have magnetic moments1.93-1.96BM and 2.91-2.94BM corresponding to one and two unpaired electrons respectively. Abstract
Reactions of 2-acetylpyridine-thiosemicarbazone HL(1), 2-acetylpyridine-4-methyl-thiosemicarbazone HL(2), 2-acetylpyridine-4-phenyl-thiosemicarbazone HL(3) and 2-acetylpyridine-semicarbazone HL(4) with ruthenium(III) precursor complexes were studied and the products were characterized by analytical and spectral (FT-IR, electronic, EPR and EI-MS) methods. The ligands coordinated with the ruthenium(III) ion via pyridine nitrogen, azomethine nitrogen and thiolate sulfur/enolate oxygen. An octahedral geometry has been proposed for all the complexes based on the studies. All the complexes are redox active and display an irreversible and quasireversible metal centered redox processes. Further, the catalytic activity of the new complexes has been investigated for the transfer hydrogenation of ketones in the presence of isopropanol/KOH and the Kumada-Corriu coupling of aryl halides with aryl Grignard reagents. The DNA cleavage efficiency of new complexes has also been tested.

Abstract
A series of metal complexes of Cu(II) and Ni(II) having the general composition [M(L)X2]
with benzil bis(thiosemicarbazone) has been prepared and characterized by
element chemical analysis, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility measurements,
and spectral (electronic, IR, EPR, mass) studies. The IR spectral data suggest the
involvement of sulphur and azomethane nitrogen in coordination to the central metal ion.
On the basis of spectral studies, an octahedral geometry has been assigned for Ni(II)
complexes but a tetragonal geometry for Cu(II) complexes. The free ligand and its
metal complexes have been tested in vitro against a number of microorganisms in order
to assess their antimicrobial properties.

Abstract
Reactions of 3-acetyl-2,5-dimethylthiophene with thiosemicarbazide and semicarbazide hydrochloride resulted in the formation of new heterocyclic ketimines, 3-acetyl-2,5-dimethylthiophene thiosemicarbazone (C(9)H(13)N(3)OS(2) or L(1)H) and 3-acetyl-2,5- dimethylthiophene semicarbazone (C(9)H(13)N(3)OS or L(2)H), respectively. The Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes have been synthesized by mixing metal salts in 1:2 molar ratios with these ligands by using microwave as well as conventional heating method for comparison purposes. The authenticity of these ligands and their complexes has been established on the basis of elemental analysis, melting point determinations, molecular weight determinations, IR, (1)H NMR and UV spectral studies. These studies showed that the ligands coordinate to the metal atom in a monobasic bidentate manner and square planar environment around the metal atoms has been proposed to the complexes. Both the ligands and their complexes have been screened for their antimicrobial activities. The antiamoebic activity of both the ligands and their palladium compounds against the protozoan parasite Entamoeba histolytica has been tested.

Abstract
The copper(II) complexes [Cu(H2Am4DH)Cl2] (1), [Cu(H2Am4Me)Cl2] (2), [Cu(H2Am4Et)Cl2] (3) and [Cu(2Am4Ph)Cl] (4) with 2-pyridineformamide thiosemicarbazone (H2Am4DH) and its N(4)-methyl (H2Am4Me), N(4)-ethyl (H2Am4Et) and N(4)-phenyl (H2Am4Ph) derivatives were studied by means of infrared and EPR spectral techniques. The crystal structure of 4 was determined. The studied compounds proved to be toxic to Artemia salina, suggesting that they could present cytotoxic activity against solid tumors. Among the free thiosemicarbazones H2Am4Ph presented higher toxicity than all other compounds, which showed comparable effects. In the case of complexes 2 and 3 toxicity is probably attributable to the complex as an entity or to a synergistic effect involving the thiosemicarbazone and copper. H2Am4Ph and complexes 2 and 3 revealed to be the most promising compounds as potential antineoplasic agents.

Abstract
A new series of iron(III) complexes are synthesized from the reaction of the polyfunctional ligands 1-benzotriazol-1-yl-1-[p-X-phenyl]hydrazono]propan-2-one (X=H, Cl, NO(2), CH(3) or OCH(3) corresponding to HL(1),HL(2), HL(3), HL(4) or HL(5), respectively, with iron(III) chloride in the presence of LiOH by the conventional and microwave induced energy methods. The conventional method led to the formation of [FeL(3)].nH(2)O but the microwave induced energy gave [FeLCl(2)], n=1-3 and L is the anion of HL(1)-HL(5). The complexes are characterized by the elemental analysis, molar conductivity, magnetic and spectral (FT-IR, UV-vis and ESR) studies. The magnetic and spectral studies showed that [FeLCl(2)] are polymeric octahedral, [Fe(L(1))(3)].H(2)O is a low spin octahedral and (d(xz),d(yz))(4) (d(xy))(1) ground state, [FeL(3)].nH(2)O, L=anion of HL(4) or HL(5) and are octahedral with intermediate spin (S=32) with ground state (d(xy))(2)(d(xz),d(yz))(3) electronic configuration while for the anions of HL(2) and HL(3), they have (t(2g))(3)(e(g))(5) admixed with (d(xy))(2)(d(xz),d(yz))(3) configurations. From the ESR data, the contribution of the high spin (S=52) and low spin (S=32) to the quantum mechanical spin intermediate (QMS), and the crystal field parameters Delta and V are calculated and related to the electronic and steric effects of the ligands. The electronic spectral data confirm that obtained from the ESR, and the different ligand field parameters as well as the pi-->t(2g), t(2g)-->e(g), e(g)-->pi*, pi-->pi* transitions are estimated and compared with that experimentally obtained.

Abstract
The synthetic, spectroscopic, and biological studies of sixteen ring-substituted 4-phenylthiosemicarbazones and 4-nitrophenyl-thiosemicarbazones of anisaldehyde, 4-chlorobenzaldehyde, 4-fluorobenzaldehyde, and vanillin with ruthenium(III) and rhodium(III) chlorides are reported here. Their structures were determined on the basis of the elemental analyses, spectroscopic data (IR, electronic, 1H and 13C NMR) along with magnetic susceptibility measurements, molar conductivity and thermogravimetric analyses. Electrical conductance measurement revealed a 1 : 3 electrolytic nature of the complexes. The resulting colored products are monomeric in nature. On the basis of the above studies, three ligands were suggested to be coordinated to each metal atom by thione sulphur and azomethine nitrogen to form low-spin octahedral complexes with ruthenium(III) while forming diamagnetic complexes with rhodium(III). Both ligands and their complexes have been screened for their bactericidal activities and the results indicate that they exhibit a significant activity.
