Abstract
In this work, a novel electrochemical detection strategy was developed based on a metal-organic framework of zinc oxide nanorod nanoparticles and rutin for selective screening of Thiourea as toxic chemicals. The zinc oxide nanorod were synthesized by following direct chemical precipitation methods and characterized by X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis. The surface of modified electrodes was also characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopes, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and attenuated total reflectance flourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Furthermore, the electrochemical activity of the developed sensor was tested by cyclic voltammetry, differential pulse voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The modified electrode showed outstanding electro-catalytic activity towards the detection of Thiourea in phosphate buffer saline at a high pH level of 12.0. The proposed sensor showed a linear range of linearity in a concentration ranging from 5.0 × 10-6 - 900 × 10-6 molL-1 and a detection limit of 2.0 × 10-6 molL-1. Moreover, the selectivity of the developed electrochemical sensor was investigated for the detection of Thiourea in the presence of organic compounds and a group of anions. Furthermore, the proposed strategy demonstrated an excellent recovery value in the spiked farmland water and fruit juice sample.

Abstract
In the present study, a highly accurate and sensitive azo-dye-based colorimetric sensor based on Eriochrome Black T (EBT) was proposed to detect and determine thiourea (TU). TU is truly an important toxic and carcinogenic hazardous pollutant as approved by EPA and IARC. This chemosensor shows a distinct color change from blue to pink during interaction with TU in aqueous medium. So EBT is capable as an applied tool for naked eye detection of TU as its color change is easily observed without any means. The sensing mechanism was also investigated using UV-vis absorption and FT-IR spectra. The linear range and the detection limit of TU sensing were respectively 0.15-18.5 μmol/L and 0.02 μmol/L. In addition, the relative standard deviation (RSD) based on ten repetitions calculated for two different TU concentrations 4.4 and 9.0 μmol/L were 2.3 % and 1.8 %, respectively. Besides its useful application as a naked eye detection tool, the advantages of the developed method include simplicity, elimination of tedious separation and pre-concentration steps, executable in neutral aqueous media, low costs, high accuracy, linear response for wide range of concentrations, low detection limit, high sensitivity, compatibility, and excellent selectivity. The concentration of TU in tap water, fruit juices or fruit skin samples can be visually detected and determined easily using this method. The results showed that EBT is an ideal colorimetric chemosensor for TU, which has been reported for the first time.

Abstract
The electrochemical behaviors of thiourea (TU) oxidation have been studied at Palladium (Pd) electrode in the acidic medium by recording cyclic voltammograms (CVs). The influence of pH was investigated in the pH range of 1.0 to 9.0. Facilitated adsorption of TU on electrode surface results in enhanced catalytic response in acidic medium and maximum electro-catalytic response was found at pH∼3.0. Chronoamperometric (CA) experiment determined this oxidation as 1e- transfer process and the variation of TU concentration reveals a 1st order kinetics. In the CV responses, the large value of peak separation (▵Ep >380 mV) calculated by the variation of scan rate indicates that oxidation of TU is an irreversible process. With the aid of convolution potential sweep voltammetry (CPSV), the standard rate constant (k°) for the reaction was found to be 7.1×10-4 cm/s and the formal potential constant (E°' ) was evaluated to be ∼0.37 V vs Ag/AgCl (sat. KCl). The value of transfer coefficient (α) was found to vary from 0.74 to 0.40 with applied potential (E). From the potential dependent variation of transfer coefficient (α) and activation energy (▵G≠ ), it was concluded that the overall electrochemical oxidation of TU follows a stepwise mechanism at lower potential (<0.40) V and a concerted one at relatively higher potential (>0.40) V. The FTIR analysis of the product after oxidation of TU molecules confirmed the appearance of a new sharp band near 530 cm-1 due to the formation of S-S bonds suggesting formation of formamidine disulfide (FD) ions.

Size-modulated optical property of gold nanorods for sensitive and colorimetric detection of thiourea in fruit juice. Talanta 2020; 225:121965. Abstract
As an important sulfur compound, thiourea (TU) has caused great concern because of its wide application as well as its serious toxicity and hazard to the environment. Thus, it is necessary to develop a sensitive and selective method for TU analysis. In this work, gold nanorods (AuNRs) acted as an optical probe to realize the sensitive and colorimetric detection of TU. In HCl medium, Fe3+ at low concentration was difficult to oxide Au0 to form Au+ because of the high redox potential or the positive Gibbs free energy change. However, this process was possible when TU was present since the association constant between Au+ and TU is great enough to bind with TU to form a stable complex to further promote the etching of AuNRs, resulting in the lower aspect ratio of AuNRs with the blue shift and intensity decrease in extinction spectra, accompanied by the divisive colors of AuNRs solution or colorful dark-field light scattering imaging of single AuNR. The blue-shift of AuNRs longitudinal plasmon resonance absorption (LPRA) band was proportional to the concentration of TU in the range of 1-250 nM and the limit of detection (3σ/k) was as low as 0.4 nM. In addition, the colorimetric method was proven with high selectivity in the presence of potential interfering compounds, which was successfully applied to the detection of TU in fruit juice samples. This proposed colorimetric method provides a simple, sensitive yet selective measurement tool for TU sensing, which may offer new opportunities in the development of colorimetric sensors for food safety in the future.

Abstract
Low-dimensional cobalt oxide codoped manganese oxide nanoparticles (CMO NPs; dia. ~ 25.6nm) were synthesized using the hydrothermal method in alkaline phase. The optical, morphological, and structural properties of CMO NPs were characterized in details using FT-IR, UV/vis., FESEM, XEDS, XPS, TEM, and XRD techniques. Glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was fabricated with a thin-layer of CMO NPs by conducting coating binders for the development of selective and sensitive thiourea (TU) sensors. Electrochemical responses along with higher sensitivity, large-dynamic-range, and long-term stability towards TU were performed by electrochemical I-V approach. The calibration curve was found linear over a wide linear dynamic range (LDR) of TU concentration. From the gradient of the calibration plot, limit of detection (LOD), and sensitivity were calculated as 12.0±0.05pM and 3.3772nAnM-1cm-2 respectively. It is an organized route for the development of chemical sensor based on very low-dimensional CMO NPs/GCE using electrochemical reduction phenomena. As far as we know, this report is the maiden publication on highly sensitive TU sensor based on the CMO NPs/GCE. This method could be a pioneer developer in TU sensitive chemical sensor development using doped NPs in the simple I-V method for the important sensor applications with useful doped materials coupled nano-technological systems for environmental safety.

Abstract
In this work, a flow injection analysis (FIA) method was introduced for the determination of trace amounts of thiourea in tap water. This method is based upon the inhibition effect of thiourea on the reaction between meta-cresol purple (MCP) and potassium bromate catalyzed by bromide ions in a sulfuric acid medium. In the presence of thiourea, an induction period appears in the reaction system, and as a result, the absorbance of MCP increases at 525 nm in the FIA manifold. The chemical and FIA variables are studied and optimized using the univariate and Simplex optimization methods. Under the optimum conditions, thiourea can be determined in the range of 0.100-13.0 μg mL(-1). The limit of detection (3σ) for thiourea was found to be 0.0310 μg mL(-1). The relative standard deviations (RSDs) for six replicate determinations of 0.500, 5.00, and 12.0 μg mL(-1) of thiourea were 4.0%, 1.8%, and 1.2%, respectively. The proposed method was also applied for the determination of thiourea in orange juice and orange peel samples with recoveries in the range of 98.0-101%. The analytical speed of the method was calculated to be about 120 sample per hour.

Abstract
A new sensitive kinetic spectrophotometric method described for the determination of trace amounts of sulfides based on the addition reaction of sulfide ions with malachite green has been investigated in aqueous and micellar media at 25 °C. The variables affecting the rate of the reaction were investigated, and the optimum conditions were established. Under the optimum experimental conditions, decreases in the absorbance of malachite green at 615 nm in the absence and 630 nm in the presence of micelle particles, their λ max, were proportional to the concentrations of sulfide ions at the first 15 and 25 s from initiation of the reaction. The working curve was linear over the concentration range 50-1200 ng mL(-1) of sulfide ions with a fixed time method at the first 15 and 25 s from initiation of the reaction in aqueous medium and 25-1750 ng mL(-1) with a fixed time method at the first 15 s and 25-1500 ng mL(-1) for primitive 25 s in micellar medium. For the proposed kinetic method, the experimental and theoretical limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) in the presence and absence of micelle particles were obtained and tabulated at Δt = 15 and 25 s. The effective range concentration was achieved from the plot of Ringbom in both media and reported. Different surfactants, such as nonionic surfactant (Triton-X100), anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), and cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC), were investigated and Triton X-100 selected as a suitable surfactant. To valuable vision into the reaction pathways, pseudo-first-order condition was applied and different kinetic parameters like ΔG (≠), ΔE (≠), ΔS (≠), and ΔH (≠) computed. The 2:1 stoichiometry of malachite green to sulfide ions was indicated by the results of mole ratio and Job's method of continuous variation. The effect of different environments on the interfering of various ions on sulfide determination with the suggested method was studied, and final results have been presented. To investigate the usefulness of the different media of the proposed method, sulfide ions were determined in natural waters such as river and spring samples without any purification or using masking reagents.

Abstract
A kinetic spectrophotometric method is described for the determination of trace levels of cyanide based on its catalytic effect on the oxidation of Janus green by ammonium peroxodisulfate in nitric acid media. The reaction was monitored spectrophotometrically by measuring the decrease in absorbance of the Janus green at 612 nm after 4 min. The effect of reaction variables on the reaction sensitivity was investigated. Under the optimized conditions, a calibration graph from 10.0 to 500.0 ng/ml of cyanide with a detection limit of 7.0 ng/m was obtained. The proposed method is simple, sensitive and inexpensive and it was applied to directly the determination of cyanide in drinking and ground waters with the satisfactory results.

Abstract
A catalytic kinetic method is described for determination of trace levels of thiourea based on its catalytic effect on the oxidation of Janus green (JG) by potassium iodate in hydrochloric acid media. The reaction was monitored by measuring the decrease in absorbance of the dye at 610 nm after 25 min. The effect of some factors on the reaction speed was investigated. The developed method allowed the determination of thiourea in range of 0.01-12.00 mg L(-1) with good precision, accuracy and the detection limit was 0.008 mg L(-1). Most of foreign species do not interfere with the determination. The method was found to be sensitive, selective and was applied to the determination of thiourea in fruit juices and orange peel.
