Resonance Rayleigh scattering and resonance non-linear scattering method for the determination of aminoglycoside antibiotics with water solubility CdS quantum dots as probe

Enhancement of Congo Red-Neomycin Resonance Rayleigh Scattering by Dodecyl Trimethyl Ammonium Bromide and its Application

A simple, rapid, and convenient method for the determination of neomycin based on the ion association method was proposed. In Britton–Robinson buffer solution, neomycin could react with Congo red to form an ionic association, which in turn reacted with dodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide to form a ternary ionic association. The three were combined in a 1 : 1 : 1 ratio, which significantly enhanced the resonant Rayleigh scattering intensity at 468 nm. The obtained resonant Rayleigh scattering sensor showed a linear relationship with neomycin in the range of 0.07∼1 μg·mL⁻¹. The limit of detection was 0.02 μg·mL⁻¹, and the limit of quantification was 0.037 μg·mL⁻¹. The experimental conditions were optimized. The method was verified based on the ICH rule. The established method could be applied to the analysis of the acceptable recovery rate of neomycin in powdered veterinary drugs.

Onsite/on-field analysis of pesticide and veterinary drug residues by a state-of-art technology: A review

Pesticides and veterinary drugs are generally employed to control pests and insects in crop and livestock farming. However, remaining residues are considered potentially hazardous to human health and the environment. Therefore, regular monitoring is required for assessing and legislation of pesticides and veterinary drugs. Various approaches to determining residues in various agricultural and animal food products have been reported. Most analytical methods involve sample extraction, purification (cleanup), and detection. Traditional sample preparation is time-consuming labor-intensive, expensive, and requires a large amount of toxic organic solvent, along with high probability for the decomposition of a compound before the analysis. Thus, modern sample preparation techniques, such as the quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe method, have been widely accepted in the scientific community for its versatile application; however, it still requires a laboratory setup for the extraction and purification processes, which also involves the utilization of a toxic solvent. Therefore, it is crucial to elucidate recent technologies that are simple, portable, green, quick, and cost-effective for onsite and infield residue detections. Several technologies, such as surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy, quantum dots, biosensing, and miniaturized gas chromatography, are now available. Further, several onsite techniques, such as ion mobility-mass spectrometry, are now being upgraded; some of them, although unable to analyze field sample directly, can analyze a large number of compounds within very short time (such as time-of-flight and Orbitrap mass spectrometry). Thus, to stay updated with scientific advances and analyze organic contaminants effectively and safely, it is necessary to study all of the state-of-art technology.

A highly selective and simple fluorescent probe for salbutamol detection based on thioglycolic acid-capped CdTe quantum dots

In this paper, a highly fluorescent water-soluble CdTe quantum dots (CdTe QDs) stabilized with thioglycolic acid (TGA) were synthesized for the quantitative and selective determination of salbutamol (SAL). When ten different of 2.09 × 10^-6 mol L^-1 alpha-2 adrenoceptor agonist were added to 4.38 × 10^-4 mol L^-1CdTe QDs solution, the fluorescence signal of the CdTe QDs quenched obviously by SAL with 57.32% and 0.815% - 7.00% for other nine kinds of veterinary medicine, such as tulobuterol, fenoterol, phenylethanamine A, simatero, penbutolol, clenbuterol, ractopamine, terbutaline and clorprenaline. The result shows that the CdTe QDs is highly sensitive sensor for SAL. The quenching mechanism has been investigated by absorption spectroscopy and K_SV at different temperatures, and shew a static quenching process than dynamic quenching. Under the optimal conditions, respectively the straight line equation (F₀/F = 0.1491 × 10⁶ C + 1.3078) was found between the relative fluorescence intensity and the concentration of SAL was in the range of 6.27 × 10^-8 to 2.09 × 10^-7 mol L^-1, and the limit of detection was 4.2 × 10^-8 mol L^-1. The proposed method has been applied to the determination of SAL in pig urine samples.

Low-Dimension Nanomaterial-Based Sensing Matrices for Antibiotics Detection: A Mini Review

Antibiotics, a kind of secondary metabolite with antipathogen effects as well as other properties, are produced by microorganisms (including bacterium, fungi, and actinomyces) or higher animals and plants during their lives. Furthermore, as a chemical, an antibiotic can disturb the developmental functions of other living cells. Moreover, it is impossible to avoid its pervasion into all kinds of environmental media via all kinds of methods, and it thus correspondingly becomes a trigger for environmental risks. As described above, antibiotics are presently deemed as a new type of pollution, with their content in media (for example, water, or food) as the focus. Due to their special qualities, nanomaterials, the most promising sensing material, can be adopted to produce sensors with extraordinary detection performance and good stability that can be applied to detection in complicated materials. For low-dimensional (LD) nanomaterials, the quantum size effect, and dielectric confinement effect are particularly strong. Therefore, they are most commonly applied in the detection of antibiotics. This article focuses on the influence of LD nanomaterials on antibiotics detection, summarizes the application of LD nanomaterials in antibiotics detection and the theorem of sensors in all kinds of antibiotics detection, illustrates the approaches to optimizing the sensitivity of sensors, such as mixture and modification, and also discusses the trend of the application of LD nanomaterials in antibiotics detection.

Quantum Dots Applied to Methodology on Detection of Pesticide and Veterinary Drug Residues

The pesticide and veterinary drug residues brought by large-scale agricultural production have become one of the issues in the fields of food safety and environmental ecological security. It is necessary to develop the rapid, sensitive, qualitative and quantitative methodology for the detection of pesticide and veterinary drug residues. As one of the achievements of nanoscience, quantum dots (QDs) have been widely used in the detection of pesticide and veterinary drug residues. In these methodology studies, the used QD-signal styles include fluorescence, chemiluminescence, electrochemical luminescence, photoelectrochemistry, etc. QDs can also be assembled into sensors with different materials, such as QD-enzyme, QD-antibody, QD-aptamer, and QD-molecularly imprinted polymer sensors, etc. Plenty of study achievements in the field of detection of pesticide and veterinary drug residues have been obtained from the different combinations among these signals and sensors. They are summarized in this paper to provide a reference for the QD application in the detection of pesticide and veterinary drug residues.

Label-free gold nanoparticles for the determination of neomycin

A new spectrophotometric method for the determination of neomycin has been developed. The method is based on aggregation of label-free gold nanoparticles leading to change in absorption spectra and color of the solution. Influence of different factors (the concentration of ethylenediaminetetraacetate (EDTA), pH, the concentrations of neomycin and the nanoparticles) on the aggregation and analytical performance of the method was investigated. EDTA plays an important role not only as a masking agent to eliminate interferences of metal cations but strongly affects the sensitivity of the nanoparticles relative to neomycin. The method allows to determine neomycin with detection limit of 28ngmL(-1). It was applied to analysis of eye- and ear-drops. The sample pretreatment is simply done by diluting the formulation with water.

Highly sensitive detection of melamine based on gemini surfactant using enhanced resonance Rayleigh scattering signals

We present here a resonance Rayleigh scattering (RRS) spectrum method for the determination of melamine at the nanogram level using a gemini surfactant (disodium 4-dodecyl-2,4'-oxydibenzenesulfonate, DDOF). It was found that DDOF could react with cationic melamine to form an ion-association complex, which induced the enhancement of RRS intensity and the appearance of a new RRS spectrum in acetate buffer (pH 3.6). The RRS spectral characteristics of the melamine-DDOF system, the optimum conditions of the reaction, and the influencing factors have been investigated. Under optimum conditions, the enhanced RRS intensity was proportional to the concentration of melamine in the range of 0.38-6.30 μg/mL. The method has high sensitivity, and the detection limit for melamine is 8.48 ng/mL. Furthermore, the reaction mechanism and the reasons of RRS enhancement were evaluated.

A label-free thrombin binding aptamer as a probe for highly sensitive and selective detection of lead(II) ions by a resonance Rayleigh scattering method

The binding of lead(II) ions with unusually high affinity to a thrombin binding aptamer resulted in an enhancement of resonance Rayleigh scattering (RRS). A simple, sensitive, and selective assay for the direct determination of trace amounts of Pb(2+) on the basis of RRS has been proposed.

Resonance Rayleigh scattering, second-order scattering and frequency doubling scattering spectra for studying the interaction of erythrosine with Fe(phen)3(2+) and its analytical application

In a weak alkaline Britton-Robinson buffer medium, erythrosine (Ery) can react with Fe(phen)(3)(2+) to form 1:1 ion-association complex, which will cause not only the changes of the absorption spectra, but also the remarkable enhancement of resonance Rayleigh scattering (RRS), second-order scattering (SOS) and frequency doubling scattering (FDS) spectra, and the appearance of new spectra of RRS, SOS and FDS. The maximum RRS, SOS and FDS wavelengths (λ(ex)/λ(em)) of the ion-association complex are located at 358/358 nm, 290/580 nm and 780/390 nm, respectively. The increments of scattering intensities (ΔI) are directly proportional to the concentration of Ery in a certain range. The detection limits for Ery are 0.028 μg mL(-1) for RRS method, 0.068 μg mL(-1) for SOS method and 0.11 μg mL(-1) for FDS method, respectively. Among them, the RRS method has the highest sensitivity. Based on the above researches, a new highly sensitive and simple method for the determination of Ery has been developed. In this work, the spectral characteristics of absorption, RRS, SOS and FDS spectra, the optimum conditions of the reaction and influencing factors for the RRS, SOS and FDS intensities were investigated. In addition, the reaction mechanism was discussed.

Studying the interaction between CdTe quantum dots and Nile blue by absorption, fluorescence and resonance Rayleigh scattering spectra

Thioglycolic acid (TGA) capped CdTe quantum dots (QDs) with the diameter of 2-3nm were synthesized. The interaction between CdTe QDs and Nile blue (NB) was investigated by ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) absorption, resonance Rayleigh scattering (RRS) and fluorescence spectroscopy. UV-vis absorption spectrum of CdTe QDs and NB obviously changed, showing that CdTe QDs could associate with NB to form a new complex. At pH 6.8, NB effectively quenched the fluorescence of CdTe QDs. It was proved that the fluorescence quenching of CdTe QDs by NB was mainly result of the formation of CdTe QDs-NB complex, electrostatic attraction and hydrophobic forces played a major role in stabilizing the complex. The binding molar ratio of CdTe QDs and NB was 5:1 by a mole-ratio method. The interaction between CdTe QDs and NB lead to the remarkable enhancement of RRS and the enchantments were in proportional to the concentration of NB in a certain range. The mechanism of the interaction between CdTe QDs and NB, reasons for the enhancement of RRS intensity were also discussed. The obtained results suggested the more satisfactory mechanism for the interaction between CdTe QDs and NB.
