Abstract
In this work, both experimental and theoretical methods were used to study the photophysical and metal ion binding properties of a series of new aminobenzamide–aminonaphthalimide (2ABZ–ANAPIM) fluorescent dyads. The 2-aminobenzamide (2ABZ) and 6-aminonaphthalimide (ANAPIM) fluorophores were linked through alkyl chains (C2 to C6) to obtain four fluorescent dyads. These dyads present a highly efficient (0.61 to 0.98) Förster Resonant Energy Transfer (FRET) from the 2ABZ to the ANAPIM due to the 2ABZ emission and ANAPIM excitation band overlap and the configurational stacking of both aromatic systems which allows the energy transfer. These dyads interact with Cu2+ and Hg2+ metal ions in solution inhibiting the FRET mechanism by the cooperative coordination of both 2ABZ and ANAPIM moieties. Both experimental and theoretical results are consistent and describe clearly the photophysical and coordination properties of these new dyads. The aminobenzamide–aminonaphthalimide fluorescent dyads allow the determination of Cu2+ and Hg2+ metal ion concentration from Förster Resonant Energy Transfer measurements.![]()

Abstract
The 5-(styryl)anthranilamides were transformed into the corresponding 5-styryl-2-(p-tolylsulfonamido)benzamide derivatives. These 5-styrylbenzamide derivatives were evaluated through enzymatic assays in vitro for their capability to inhibit acetylcholinesterase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), and β-secretase (BACE-1) activities as well as for antioxidant potential. An in vitro cell-based antioxidant activity assay involving lipopolysaccharides (LPS)-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) production revealed that compounds 2a and 3b have the capability of scavenging free radicals. The potential of the most active compound, 5-styrylbenzamide (2a), to bind copper (II) or zinc (II) ions has also been evaluated spectrophotometrically. Kinetic studies of the most active derivatives from each series against the AChE, BChE, and β-secretase activities have been performed. The experimental results are complemented with molecular docking studies into the active sites of these enzymes to predict the hypothetical protein–ligand binding modes. Their drug likeness properties have also been predicted.

Abstract
A series of new three heteroleptic complexes of the general formula [Ln(Cn)(TMEDA)Cl(OH2)]·2Cl·xH2O, (where Ln = La(III), Er(III) and Yb(III), Cn = cocaine and TMEDA = N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine) were synthesized, structurally characterized by elemental analysis, spectroscopic methods, molar conductivity and mass spectrometry. Thermal properties of the synthesized complexes and their kinetic thermodynamic parameters were studied. Theoretical calculations including geometry optimization, electronic structure and electronic and thermal energies were carried out using DFT and TD-DFT calculations at B3LYP/LANL2DZ level of theory and the different quantum chemical parameters were calculated. The in vitro antiproliferative activity of the newly synthesized complexes was assessed by MTT assay on MCF-7 and HepG-2 cancer cell lines. Yb(III) complex showed promising cytotoxic activity comparable to that of cisplatin on both cell lines with minimum effect on human normal cells. Further molecular mechanistic investigations showed that Yb(III) complex is an apoptotic inducer as it raises the caspase-3 and caspase-9 cellular level in the MCF-7 cell line. Furthermore, it showed an elevating effect on the level of the tumor suppressor nuclear proteins P21 and P27 concentrations in MCF-7 cells. Moreover, Yb(III) complex hindered the cellular scavenger system of the reactive oxygen species through reducing the glutathione peroxidase (GPx) cellular level imperiling MCF-7 cells by unmanageable oxidative stress. In addition to its cytotoxic effect, Yb(III) complex showed antimetastatic properties as it decreased the cellular levels of matrix metalloproteinases MMP-3 and MMP-9. These results showed that the Yb(III) complex is a promising cytotoxic metal-based agent that exerts its action through various molecular mechanisms with minimum effects on normal cells and with additional antimetastatic properties.

Abstract
The structures of the mono- and the dihalogenated N-unsubstituted 2-aminobenzamides were characterized by means of the spectroscopic (¹H-NMR, UV-Vis, FT-IR, and FT-Raman) and X-ray crystallographic techniques complemented with a density functional theory (DFT) method. The hindered rotation of the C(O)-NH₂ single bond resulted in non-equivalence of the amide protons and therefore two distinct resonances of different chemical shift values in the ¹H-NMR spectra of these compounds were observed. 2-Amino-5-bromobenzamide (ABB) as a model confirmed the presence of strong intramolecular hydrogen bonds between oxygen and the amine hydrogen. However, intramolecular hydrogen bonding between the carbonyl oxygen and the amine protons was not observed in the solution phase due to a rapid exchange of these two protons with the solvent and fast rotation of the Ar-NH₂ single bond. XRD also revealed the ability of the amide unit of these compounds to function as a hydrogen bond donor and acceptor simultaneously to form strong intermolecular hydrogen bonding between oxygen of one molecule and the NH moiety of the amine or amide group of the other molecule and between the amine nitrogen and the amide hydrogen of different molecules. DFT calculations using the B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) basis set revealed that the conformer (A) with oxygen and 2-amine on the same side predominates possibly due to the formation of a six-membered intramolecular ring, which is assisted by hydrogen bonding as observed in the single crystal XRD structure.

Abstract
A series of two biologically active Schiff base ligands L(1), L(2) have been synthesized in equimolar reaction of 4-amino-5-(pyridin-4-yl)-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol with thiophene-2-carbaldehyde and furan-2-carbaldehyde. The synthesized Schiff bases were used for complexation with different metal ions like Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) by using a molar ratio of ligand: metal as 1:1 and 2:1. The characterization of Schiff bases and metal complexes was done by (1)H NMR, UV-Vis, TGA, IR, mass spectrometry and molar conductivity studies. The in DFT studies the geometries of Schiff bases and metal complexes were fully optimized with respect to the energy using the 6-31+g(d,p) basis set. On the basis of the spectral studies an octahedral geometry has been assigned for Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes. The effect of these complexes on proliferation of human breast cancer cell line (MCF-7) and human hepatocellular liver carcinoma cell line (Hep-G2) were studied and compared with those of free ligand. The anticancer cell line results reveal that all metal complexes show moderate to significant % cytotoxicity on cell line HepG2 and MCF-7.

Abstract
The thermodynamic constants of the complex Cu(II)-dopamine in aqueous solution were evaluated from spectrophotometric data using the software SQUAD. It was found that there exist Cu(II):DA complexes with 1:1 and 1:2 stoichiometries and that their predominance depends on both the solution pH and the [Cu(II)]/[DA] ratio. Moreover, it is shown that the solubility of Cu(OH)2(s) increases drastically when these complexes are thermodynamically stable.

Abstract
Some biologically active mixed ligand complexes (1-9) have been synthesized from 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU; A) and amino acids (B) such as glycine (gly), L-alanine (ala) and L-valine (val) with Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) ions. The synthesized mixed ligand complexes (1-9) were characterized by various physico-chemical, spectral, thermal and morphological studies. 5-Fluorouracil and its mixed ligand complexes have been tested for their in vitro biological activities against some pathogenic bacterial and fungal species by the agar well diffusion method. The in vitro antioxidant activities of 5-Fluorouracil and its complexes have also been investigated by using the DPPH assay method. The results demonstrate that Cu(II) mixed ligand complexes (4-6) exhibit potent biological as well as antioxidant activities compared to 5-Fluorouracil and Ni(II) (1-3) and Zn(II) (7-9) mixed ligand complexes. Further, the cleaving activities of CT DNA under aerobic conditions show moderate activity with the synthesized Cu(II) and Ni(II) mixed ligand complexes (1-6) while no activity is seen with Zn(II) complexes (7-9). Binding studies of CT DNA with these complexes show a decrease in intensity of the charge transfer band to the extent of 5-15% along with a minor red shift. The free energy change values (Δ(‡)G) calculated from intrinsic binding constants indicate that the interaction between mixed ligand complex and DNA is spontaneous.

Abstract
The paper presents the synthesis of Ni(II) and Zn(II) complexes of general composition M(L)X₂ and M(L)₂X₂ (M=Ni(II), Zn(II), X=Cl(-1), OAc(-1)) with Schiff base obtained through the condensation of 2-aminobenzamide with thiophene-2-carbaldehyde. The characterization of newly formed complexes was done by (1)H NMR, UV-VIS, TGA, IR, mass spectrophotometry and molar conductivity studies. The thermal studies suggested that the complexes are more stable as compared to ligand. In DFT studies the geometries of Schiff's base and metal complexes were fully optimized with respect to the energy using the 6-31+g(d,p) basis set. On the basis of the spectral studies a distorted octahedral geometry has been assigned for Ni(II) complexes and tetrahedral geometry for Zn(II) complexes. The effect of these complexes on proliferation of human breast cancer cell line (MCF-7) and human hepatocellular liver carcinoma cell line (HepG2) were studied and compared with those of free ligand.

Abstract
A series of novel bioactive mixed ligand Ni(II) complexes (1a-1d) have been synthesised by using 2-aminobenzamide (2AB) and some bio-relevant amino acid ligands. The synthesised Ni(II) complexes were structurally characterized by various physico-chemical and spectral studies. Elemental analysis and molar conductance values suggest that 1:1:1 stoichiometry with non-electrolytic nature. Based on the spectral studies, both the ligands act as bidentate and they chelate with Ni(II) ion via amino-NH2 and amido-O and deprotonated carboxylato-O and amino-NH2 atoms respectively to form a stable six, five membered chelate rings with mononuclear octahedral geometry. Thermal studies show the presence of coordinated water and acetate molecules in the coordination. The powder X-ray diffractogram and SEM pictograph imply that all the complexes have fine crystalline peaks with homogeneous surface morphology. In vitro antimicrobial and antioxidant studies indicate the complexes are more active than free 2-aminobenzamide ligand. The Ni(II)-2AB-gly/phe complexes (1a and 1d) show significant oxidative cleavage and DNA binding activities. Moreover, the 3D molecular modeling, analysis of the complexes has also been studied.

Abstract
Coordinating behavior of novel N2O type mixed ligand complexes (1-6) have been synthesized from substituted fluoropyrimidine [5-Fluorouracil (5-FU; A)] with biopotent imidazole enzyme constituents (B) viz., imidazole(him) and benzimidazole(bim) in the presence of Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) ions. Synthesized complexes were characterized by chemical analysis, spectral studies, magnetic moment and conductivity measurements. The results of chemical analysis and the observed low molar conductance values propose their stoichiometry to be 1:1:1 (M:A:B) with non-electrolytic nature. From the spectral data, it is inferred that the ligands A & B coordinate with M(II) ions in bi and monodentate approach through C(4)=O, N(3) and imidazole ring N(3) atoms respectively. The thermogravimetric analysis shows the dehydration, decomposition and thermal stability of mixed ligand complexes. XRD and SEM patterns show sharp crystalline peaks with homogeneous morphology. In vitro antimicrobial activities of free ligands (A & B) and their metal complexes were screened against some pathogenic strains by well diffusion technique. Absorption and gel electrophoresis experiments on the interaction of mixed ligand complexes with DNA suggest that all the complexes can bind as well as cleave the DNA by intercalation between chromophores and DNA base pairs. In addition, in vitro antioxidant activities were tested by DPPH free radical scavenging model.
