Abstract
Malachite green (MG), a widely used antiparasitic agent, poses health risks to human due to its genotoxic and carcinogenic properties. Herein, a stable dual-emission fluoroprobe of carbon dots/copper nanoclusters is prepared for highly selective detection of MG based on the inner filter effect. This probe exhibits characteristic emission bands at 435 and 625 nm when excited at 376 nm. After adding MG, the both emission signals were significantly quenched, and the ratio of fluorescence intensity (F435/F625) was linearly related to the concentration of MG in the range of 0.05-40 μmol L-1 with a limit of detection of 18.2 nmol L-1. Meanwhile, the two signals exhibit linear relationships with the concentration of MG, respectively, and the corresponding detection results were consistent. The fluoroprobe was successfully used for the detection of MG in fish samples with the recoveries ranging from 96.0% to 103.8% and a relative standard deviation of <3.3%.

Abstract
The interest in the fate of pharmacologically active substances (PASs) in the aquatic environment continually increases. However, little is known about pharmacologically active dyes (PADs) as contaminants of water bodies. PADs are used in medicine, but due to their colouring properties are also applied in the textile, cosmetic and food industries. Their large-scale production and widespread applications have caused these dyes permeate to the aquatic environment. The pharmacological activity and toxicological properties of some of these dyes, caused their occurrence in water should be monitored. Up to now, PADs such as crystal violet, malachite green, methylene blue, rhodamine B, have been determined in the water of Greater China and Iran. However, there is no data on whether PADs pose an environmental problem for water bodies in Poland. Thus, different water samples were collected and analysed by the UPLC-MS/MS method allowing the determination of 20 PADs. The tests showed that dyes such as crystal violet, methyl violet 2 B and rhodamine B were found in 2 out of 36 water reservoirs (0.0122-0.0594 μgL-1). The environmental risk assessment indicated that determined dyes for most model organisms did not pose a risk. Only the presence of methyl violet 2 B (0.0571 μgL-1) was related to a low risk for rohu carp, and crystal violet (0.0122-0.0209 μgL-1) showed a moderate risk for medaka fish. The occurrence of PADs was tested on a larger scale in the water samples collected from different water reservoirs in Poland. Based on obtained results, 96.3% of water samples collected from different water bodies (94.5%) were free from dyes. Thus, it could be stated that generally environmental water of Poland is contaminated with PADs at a low level. On the other hand, the presence of dyes in two samples indicates that PADs permeate the water environment, and their occurrence should be monitored.

Abstract
In this work, a simple and sensitive electrochemical method was developed to determine ethyl violet (EV) dye in aqueous systems by using square wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV) employing a glassy carbon electrode modified with acidic-functionalized carbon nanotubes (COOH-fCNTs). In square wave anodic stripping voltammetry, EV exhibited a well-defined oxidation peak at 0.86 V at the modified GCE. Impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry were used to examine the charge transduction and sensing capabilities of the modified electrode. The influence of pH, deposition potential, and accumulation time on the electro-oxidation of EV was optimized. Under the optimum experimental conditions, the limit of detection with a value of 0.36 nM demonstrates high sensitivity of COOH-fCNTs/GCE for EV. After detection, it was envisioned to devise a method for the efficient removal of EV from an aqueous system. In this regard a photocatalytic degradation method of EV using Ho/TiO2 nanoparticles was developed. The Ho/TiO2 nanoparticles synthesized by the sol-gel method were characterized by UV-vis, XRD, FTIR, SEM, and EDX. The photocatalytic degradation studies revealed that basic medium is more suitable for a higher degradation rate of EV than acidic and neutral media. The photodegradation kinetic parameters were evaluated using UV-vis spectroscopic and electrochemical methods. The results revealed that the degradation process of EV follows first-order kinetics.

Abstract
This study presents a multi-compound method for the determination of 20 pharmacologically active dyes from 5 different chemical classes in environmental water samples. These compounds, including triphenylmethane dyes (malachite green, crystal violet, brilliant green, ethyl violet, methyl violet 2B, pararosaniline, victoria blue B, victoria blue R, victoria pure blue BO), phenothiazine dyes (methylene blue, azure A, azure B, azure C, new methylene blue, thionine), phenoxazine dye (nile blue A), acridine dyes (acriflavine, proflavine) and xanthene dyes (rhodamine B, rhodamine 6G) constitute pharmacologically active substances (PASs). For the optimisation of sample preparation, different solid-phase extraction (SPE) sorbents and a wide range of pH (from 2 to 12) of water samples were tested. Finally, water samples were preconcentrated and cleaned up on diol SPE cartridges. Extracts were analysed by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) operating in the positive electrospray ionisation (ESI+) mode. The chromatographic separation of the 20 pharmacologically active dyes was achieved within 5 min by using a pentafluorophenyl (F5) analytical column and mobile phases of ammonium acetate buffer (0.05 M, pH = 3.5) and acetonitrile with gradient elution. The developed method was validated proving to be suitable for the determination of all tested compounds. Limits of quantification were 0.01–0.1 μg/l, are sensitive enough to quantify very low concentration levels of the dyes in environmental water samples. The obtained recovery values for all tested analytes were between 71.2 and 104.9% with a good RSD, less than 14 % at all fortification levels. The application of the developed method to water samples allows the detection of dyes such as crystal violet, rhodamine B, and methyl violet in two wastewater samples in concentration range from 0.017 to 0.0043 μg/l).

Abstract
BACKGROUND A simple, rapid and sensitive method coupling ultrasound-assisted dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) with ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry was developed for the simultaneous determination of malachite green (MG) and crystal violet (CV) in different water samples. OBJECTIVE In ultrasound-assisted DLLME procedure, several parameters affecting the extraction efficiency, including pH, type and volume of the extraction and dispersive solvents, extraction time, ionic strength, were optimized to improve the accuracy and precision of this method. METHODS MG and CV were extracted and preconcentrated using dichloromethane and acetonitrile as the extraction and dispersive solvents, respectively. RESULTS Under the optimum conditions, the proposed method affords good linearity in the range of 0.40-20.0 ng/L, and the limit of detections were 0.21 and 0.32 ng/L for MG and CV, respectively. The recoveries of the method at three spiked levels were in the range of 83.4-94.2% with relative standard deviations lower than 4.7% (n = 3). CONCLUSIONS Satisfactorily, no significant matrix effect has been found as the data ranged between 68% and 102%.

Abstract
Synthetic organic dyes are widely used in various industrial sectors but are also among the most harmful water pollutants. In the last decade, significant efforts have been made to develop improved materials for the removal of dyes from water, in particular, on nanostructured adsorbent materials. Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are an attractive class of hybrid nanostructured materials with an extremely wide range of applications including adsorption. In the present work, an iron-based Fe-BTC MOF, prepared according to a rapid, aqueous-based procedure, was used as an adsorbent for the removal of alizarin red S (ARS) and malachite green (MG) dyes from water. The synthesized material was characterized in detail, while the adsorption of the dyes was monitored by UV-Vis spectroscopy. An optimal adsorption pH of 4, likely due to the establishment of favorable interactions between dyes and Fe-BTC, was found. At this pH and at a temperature of 298 K, adsorption equilibrium was reached in less than 30 min following a pseudo-second order kinetics, with k″ of 4.29 × 10−3 and 3.98 × 10−2 g∙mg−1 min−1 for ARS and MG, respectively. The adsorption isotherm followed the Langmuir model with maximal adsorption capacities of 80 mg∙g−1 (ARS) and 177 mg∙g−1 (MG), and KL of 9.30·103 L∙mg−1 (ARS) and 51.56·103 L∙mg−1 (MG).

Abstract
In this work, the electrochemiluminscence system of nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots (N-GQDs) and K2S2O8 was built for the determination of crystal violet (CV). Meanwhile, a carboxylic carbon nanotubes modified glassy carbon electrode (CCNTs/GCE) was used as an ECL sensor. Thanks to the excellent electron transfer ability and large surface area of CCNTs, the ECL signal of N-GQDs@S2O82- was remarkablely amplified. With the presence of a low concentration of CV, a distinct decrease of the ECL signal was observed due to a quenching effect of CV on the ECL emission. Moreover, the quenched ECL intensity responded linearly to the logarithm of CV concentration within the range of 0.05 - 5 μmol/L, with a LOD of 45 nmol/L (S/N = 3). The proposed ECL system exhibited high sensitivity and specificity to CV, which was successfully applied in the practical detection of CV in real water samples from a local fishpond farm.

Abstract
This study suggested a new method for simultaneous quantification of two dyes in complex matrices using second-order data by spectrophotometry. Second-order data was generated simply without any expensive instrument using two independent variables including wavelength and the monotonic addition of sodium dodecyl sulfate. Solid-phase extraction (SPE) based on amino-rich magnetic single-walled carbon nanotube as an adsorbent was employed prior to second-order data generation. SPE optimization was performed by Box-Behnken design, and parameters and their interaction which were dependent on the simultaneous extraction of dyes were examined. Competitive Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms for a binary system and individual dyes could all represent the equilibrium data well. The second-order data was processed by parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC and PARAFAC2) and multivariate curve resolution-alternating least squares (MCR-ALS). Figures of merit of the model including a limit of detection of 3.0 and 2.5 ng mL-1 for crystal violet and malachite green, respectively, were estimated using the MCR-ALS method. The combination of the second-order calibration and SPE presents an easy and versatile method for determination of the mixture of two dyes in the presence of uncalibrated interferences in environmental water, synthetic, and fish samples with the recoveries of 94-104.

Abstract
Present study is based on describing an ultrasound-assisted dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction coupled with derivative spectrophotometry (UAS-DLLME-UV-vis) as useful technique for selective determination of crystal violet (CV) and azure b (Az-B). The significant factors like pH, extractor volume, disperser value and extraction time contribution and their numerical coefficient in quadratic model were calculated according to central composite design (CCD). According to desirability function (DF) as good criterion the best experimental conditions was adjusted and selected at pH of 7.0, 170μL of chloroform, 800μL of ethanol that strongly mixed with the aqueous phase via 4min sonication. Additionally, under study system was modeled by trained artificial neural networks (ANNs) as fitness function with acceptable error of MSE 2.97×10-06 and 1.15×10-05 with R2: 0.9999 and 0.9997 for CV and Az-B, respectively. The optimum conditions by using genetic algorithm (GA) method was pH of 6.3, 160μL of chloroform, 740μL of ethanol and 4.5min sonication. Under above specified and optimize conditions, the predicted extraction percentage were 99.80 and 102.20% for CV and Az-B, respectively. The present UAS-DLLME-UV-vis procedure has minimum interference from other substances assign to the matrix, which candidate this method as good alternative to quantify under study dyes content with recoveries in the range of 86-100% for dyes. The detection limits were 2.043ngmL-1 and 1.72ngmL-1, and limits of quantitation were 6.81ngmL-1 and 5.727ngmL-1 for CV and Az-B, respectively. The proposed methodology was successfully applied for quantification of under study analytes at different media.
