Abstract
Biscarbazole derivative probe (6) (Z)-2-(3-(((9-heptyl-9H-carbazol-3-yl)methylene)amino)-9H-carbazol-9-yl)ethan-1-ol containing an imine group, which is a sensitive and selective fluorescence chemosensor, was designed and synthesized for the effective evaluation of Cu2+ metal ion levels. The synthesized compounds were characterized using 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FT-IR, and MALDI-TOF MS (for compound 6) spectroscopic data. The interaction model between probe 6 and Cu2+ was determined by combining fluorescence methods, 1H NMR titration, Job's plot, and theoretical calculations. For probe 6, the fluorogenic recognition of Cu2+ was investigated by fluorescence spectroscopy, and the optical changes caused by Cu2+ ions were carried out in ACN/H2O (50:50) solution at pH 7.0. Fluorescence probe 6 was found to "turn-off" its fluorescence in the presence of paramagnetic Cu2+ ions. Probe 6 was determined to have a rapid response within 40s and showed a fluorescence response to Cu2+ with a low detection limit of 0.16 μM. Additionally, in vitro anticancer activity and cell imaging studies of probe 6 against the prostate cell line (PC-3) were performed.

Abstract
In present work our group has synthesized two novel Schiff-bases, Di-Carbazole based Schiff-base (DB-1) and Di-Anthracene based Schiff-base (DB-2) using condensation reaction and characterized thorough different spectroscopic techniques such as mass spectrometry, IR spectroscopy, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. Furthermore, the AIE(Aggregation induced emission) studies were done using water-THF mixture. As compared to pure THF, the DB-2 showed a 17.8-fold increase in fluorescence intensity with a bathochromic shift of 64 nm in 80% water: THF mixture. For DB-1increase was seen at 70% water-THF combination. The analysis of the dynamic light scattering (DLS) further supported this excellent AIEE (Aggregation induced enhanced emission) characteristic. Furthermore, the spectrofluorometric techniques were used to examine the capacity of both Schiff bases to detect the heavy metals. It was discovered that only DB-1, with a detection limit of 2.4 × 10-8 M, was selective for the Cu2+ ion, whereas DB-2 had no sensing capability for metal ions. The Job's plot was used to determine the stoichiometry ratio of the DB-1 with Cu2+ to further examine the process. It was discovered that the ratio was 1:1 (DB-1:Cu2+). Additionally, the association constant of DB-1 for Cu2+ was 5.1 × 1011 M-1, demonstrating the excellent binding affinity of DB-1 for the Cu2+ ion.

Abstract
Copper ion (Cu2+) is an essential part of the living organisms. Cu2+ ions play a vital role in many biotic processes. An abnormal amount of Cu2+ ions may result in serious diseases. Herein, a novel "fluorescent ON" probe NC-Cu to trace minute levels of Cu2+ ions in presence of various biological active species has been developed. Lysosomal cells targeting group (Morpholine) was added to the probe. The spectral properties of probe NC-Cu were recorded in HEPES buffer (0.01 M, pH = 7.4, comprising 50% CH3CN, λex = 430 nm, slit: 5 nm). The synthesized probe NC-Cu work based on copper promoted catalytic hydrolysis of hydrazone and shows remarkable fluorescence enhancement. The reaction of the probe with Cu2+ ions was completed within 20 min. An excellent linear relationship (R2 = 0.9952) was found and the limit of detection (LOD, according to the 3σ/slope) for Cu2+ ions was calculated to be 5.8 µM. Furthermore, NC-Cu was effectively functional in the living cells (KYSE30 cells) to trace Cu2+ ions.

Abstract
A fluorescence and absorption chemosensor (SAAT) based on 5-(hydroxymethyl)-salicylaldehyde (SA) and o-aminothiophenol (AT) was designed and synthesized. SAAT in DMSO-HEPES (20.0 mM, v/v, 1:99, pH=7.0) solution shows a highly selective and sensitive absorption and "on-off" fluorescence response to Cu2+ ions in aqueous solutions over all other competitive metal ions including Na+ , Ag+ , Ba2+ , Ca2+ , Cd2+ , Mg2+ , Zn2+ , Cr3+ , Al3+ , Hg2+ , K+ , Mn2+ , Ni2+ , Sr2+ , Tb3+ and Co2+ . SAAT exhibits ratiometric absorption sensing ability for Cu2+ ions. Importantly, SAAT also can sense Cu2+ ions by fluorescence quenching, the fluorescence intensity of SAAT showed a good linear relationship with Cu2+ concentration, and the detection limit of Cu2+ was 0.34 μM. The results of Job's plot, Benesi-Hildebrand plot, mass spectra, and DFT calculations confirmed that the selective absorption and fluorescence response were attributed to the formation of 1:1 complex between SAAT and Cu2+ . SAAT in test film can identify Cu2+ in water samples by the intuitive fluorescence color change under UV lamp. SAAT has great application value as a selective and sensitive chemosensor to discrimination and detection of Cu2+ ions.

Abstract
This work demonstrated the feasibility of applying the Schiff base 5-bromo-2-salicyl-beta-alanine as a colorimetric chemosensor for the spectrophotometric quantification of the copper content in artisanal cachaças. For this, the experimental conditions were optimized to obtain an efficient, sensitive, reversible, and highly selective chemosensor to Cu2+ ions. The complex stoichiometry was 1:1, with a formation constant of 5.82 × 102 L mol-1 and molar absorptivity of 5.82 × 103 mol L-1 cm-1. Then, a spectrophotometric analytical method was developed and validated according to the Brazilian legislation. The linearity of the analytical curve was demonstrated by ANOVA, at a confidence level of 95%. The limits of detection and quantification were 0.0659 and 0.200 mg L-1, respectively. The coefficients of variation for both the intra- and inter-day precisions were lower than 3.83%, and the accuracy presented a mean recovery of 100.55 ± 2.87%. The absence of a matrix effect was confirmed by the standard addition method, and the copper content in three artisanal cachaças from different geographical origins was estimated as lower than 2.93 mg L-1. This result was in accordance with the Brazilian legislation but reinforces the need to carry out stricter quality control to achieve exportation standards. Therefore, the proposed method can be considered a simple, selective, linear, precise, and accurate tool that involves only a simple complexation reaction through the addition of the chemosensor solution in a buffered medium. As a consequence, the simplicity, practicality, rapidity, and low cost of synthesis of the proposed Schiff base chemosensor are highlighted.

Abstract
A new indolo[2,3-a]carbazole based colorimetric chemosensor C1 was designed and synthesized. The optical properties of C1 were investigated by UV-vis spectroscopy, UV-vis titrations, and fluorescence spectroscopy. The HOMO and LUMO values of C1 were obtained using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The results indicate that C1 has specific selectivity and high sensitivity for detection of Cu2+ and Fe3+ ions compared with metal ions (K+, Na+, Mg2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, Pb2+, Hg2+, Ag+, Co2+, Cr2+, Ni2+, Mn2+, Ba2+). The presence of Cu2+ ions leads to visible color change from yellow to colorless in an aqueous-acetonitrile solution, especially. Moreover, the detection limit for the analysis of Cu2+ and Fe3+ ions is found to be as low as 2.93 × 10-7 M and 4.10 × 10-7 M, respectively. Therefore, C1 should have potential applications as a practical colorimetric chemosensor for simultaneous detection of Cu2+ and Fe3+ in the environment and biological systems.

Abstract
A well-designed naphthopyran-diaminomaleonitrile dyad (sensor 1) has been synthesized successfully, its molecular structure was well characterized by NMR and mass spectrometry. Sensor 1 exhibits excellent photochromic and photochromic fluorescence switch performance with reversible color change and good fatigue resistance upon alternating ultraviolet irradiation and thermal bleaching. In addition, sensor 1 displayed excellent fluorescent and colorimetric sensing ability towards Cu2+ ions with high selectivity and sensitivity. The addition of 5.0 equiv. of Cu2+ ions into sensor 1 (1 × 10-5) in CH3CN solution significantly quenched the fluorescence of sensor 1 by 80.0%. Furthermore, the addition of Cu2+ ions also caused the complete disappearance of the absorbance band at 350-450 nm in absorbance spectra of sensor 1 and accompanied by the distinct color change form yellow to colorless. Job's plot, mass spectrometry, 1H NMR titration and DFT calculations proved that sensing performance was attributed to the formation of 1:1 sensor 1-Cu2+complexes. Sensor 1 can monitor the existence of Cu2+ ions in living cells via the fluorescence images. Sensor 1 showed great potential applications as chemosensor and photochromic materials.

Abstract
A newly designed fluorescent and colorimetric probe was synthesized and selective detection of cu2+ was successful in aqueous medium. The design strategy exhibited strongly fluorescent when binding with cu2+ based on the change in structure between spirocyclic to a non-cyclic form of rhodamine based dye. The UV visible spectra of probe (6GS2) exhibited three absorption peaks at 229, 309 and 530 nm respectively. The emission spectra of fluorescent probe exhibited wavelength at 550 nm. The peak intensity increases during the addition of copper ion to probe through n-π transition. The probe characterized by different techniques like NMR, absorption, emission, mass and test strips methods. Graphical Abstract .

Abstract
A new nitrogen atom free polythiophene derivative bearing methoxy-ethoxy units of poly{3-[2-(2-methoxy-ethoxy)-ethoxy]-thiophene} (PM) was successfully synthesized by introducing multiple ether bonds on the thiophene unit. The special (ether bonds) coordination structure was constructed and these fluorescence characteristics of PM to metal ions detection were investigated. This polythiophene-based material displays a specific fluorescence quenching effect on Cu2+ and Ag+, and correspondingly emerges some color changes that are visible to the naked eyes. In addition, it even performs a low detection limit to Cu2+ for only 0.45 μM, which exhibits a higher selective detection to Cu2+ than other reported N-containing chemosenors. These discoveries are helpful to indicate an original aspect for development on nitrogen atom free polythiophene-based fluorescent-sensing materials.

Abstract
A new Schiff base derivative fluorescence-colorimetric chemosensor 2-hydroxy-5-[(2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl)methylideneamino]benzoic acid (H3L), has been designed and synthesized. H3L displayed high selectivity and sensitivity for detecting Cr3+, Cu2+, Fe3+ and Al3+ ions in DMF/H2O (v/v = 1/1) solution. When Cr3+, Cu2+ or Fe3+ ions were added, the solution of H3L in DMF/H2O exhibited different color changes. While with the addition of Fe3+ or Al3+ ions, the solution of H3L in DMF/H2O displayed different fluorescence responses. The bonding modes and bonding ratios of H3L and metal ions were explored by the Job's plot, 1H NMR titration, and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). The detection limits of H3L with Cr3+, Cu2+, Fe3+and Al3+ ions were 3.37 × 10-7 M, 4.65 × 10-7 M, 3.58 × 10-7 M and 4.89 × 10-7 M, respectively.

Abstract
In this work, we have strategically incorporated a quinoxaline derivative and a diaminomaleonitrile moiety to construct a chemosensor, 2-amino-3-[(quinoxalin-2-ylmethylene)-amino]-but-2-enedinitrile (H2qm). The notable feature of this strategy is to generate a highly conjugated Schiff base platform with interesting binding properties. Remarkably, H2qm exhibited a visual sensing ability towards Cu2+ in 100% aqueous medium. The effectiveness of the chemosensor has been demonstrated by utilizing it to determine the Cu2+ concentration in real samples. Interestingly, the reaction between H2qm and Cu(ClO4)2·6H2O in DMSO yielded a quinoxaline-2-carboxylic acid based compound and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis unveiled the resulting structure as [(qa)2Cu(H2O)2] (Hqa = quinoxaline-2-carboxylic acid).

Abstract
A new benzimidazole base turn-on fluorescent and ratiometric absorption chemosensor (L) bearing bidentate ligand for detection of Cu2+ was designed and synthesized. Fluorescence and UV-vis spectra studies demonstrated that L can detect Cu2+ ions in aqueous solution using fluorescence enhancement and ratiometric absorption sensing over a wide pH range. Both fluorescent and ratiometric absorption sensing of L for Cu2+ possessed high selectivity and sensitivity over other competitive metal ions and had low detection limit. Job's plot, mass spectra and DFT calculation indicated the sensing mechanism is the complex formation between L and Cu2+ with 1:2 stoichiometry. Fluorescence images of HepG2 in the absence and presence of Cu2+ displayed L had cell permeability and detection ability for Cu2+ in live cells.
