Abstract
With the rapid development of industrialization, water pollution directly leads to the serious shortage of fresh water. As reported by the World Water Council, nearly 3.8 billion people will face water scarcity by 2030. Therefore, developing advanced nanomaterials to realize wastewater purification is a major challenge. Two-dimensional (2D) transition metal carbides (MXenes), as the emerging 2D layered nanomaterials, have been investigated for the applications of water purification treatment since first reported in 2011. Over 40 different MXenes have been developed for environmental remediation, and dozens more structures and properties are theoretically predicted. Here, we review the advances from the aspects of synthesis strategies for MXenes, purification mechanism, and their applications in wastewater treatment processes. The major points are 1) the synthesis and modification approaches for MXenes such as multi-layered stacked MXenes and delaminated MXenes 2) a discussion of current water remediation over MXene-based materials, 3) a brief introduction for removal behaviors and deep interaction mechanisms, 4) optimization strategies and key points for boosting the remediation performance of MXenes.

CHEMOSPHERE 2023; 331:138750. Abstract
As a novel adsorbent for the separation of uranium(VI) from wastewater, Magnetite/β-cyclodextrin/fly ash composite (Fe3O4/β-CD/FA) was first prepared via a chemical coprecipitation technology. The characterization results indicated that Fe3O4 and β-CD had been successfully loaded on FA, which had brought abundant oxygen-containing functional groups, providing numerous adsorptive sites for the removal of uranium(VI). At pH = 5.0 and T = 25 °C, the maximum uranium(VI) removal efficiency and capacity of Fe3O4/β-CD/FA were higher to 97.8% and 444.4 mg g-1, respectively. Pseudo-second-order and Langmuir models fitted better with the experimental data, illustrating that chemical adsorption dominated the uranium(VI) removal process. In addition, Fe3O4/β-CD/FA showed good anti-interference ability and recoverability. After five cycles, the removal rate of uranium(VI) on Fe3O4/β-CD/FA was still higher to 90.4%. The immobilization of uranium(VI) on Fe3O4/β-CD/FA was mainly ascribed to the synergism of redox reaction, complex reaction, chemical reaction and electrostatic interaction. Given the above, Fe3O4/β-CD/FA would be regarded as an efficacious, green and promising adsorbent for uranium(VI) separation from wastewater.

Abstract
A novel chitosan-based composite with rich active sites was synthesized by uniformly dispersing biochar into the cross-linked network structure formed by chitosan and polyethyleneimine. Due to the synergistic effect of biochar (minerals) and chitosan-polyethyleneimine interpenetrating network (amino and hydroxyl), the chitosan-based composite possessed an excellent adsorption performance for uranium(VI). It could rapidly (<60 min) achieve a high adsorption efficiency (96.7 %) for uranium(VI) from water and a high static saturated adsorption capacity (633.4 mg/g), which was far superior to other chitosan-based adsorbents. Moreover, the separation for uranium(VI) on the chitosan-based composite was suitable for a variety of actual water environments and the adsorption efficiencies all exceeded 70 % in different water bodies. The soluble uranium(VI) could be completely removed by the chitosan-based composite in the continuous adsorption process, which could meet the permissible limits of the World Health Organization. In sum, the novel chitosan-based composite could overcome the bottleneck of current chitosan-based adsorption materials and become a potential adsorbent for the remediation of actual uranium(VI) contaminated wastewater.

Abstract
The coexistence of organic and inorganic pollutants in industrial wastewater has emerged as a concerning environmental issue worldwide due to the critical levels of biological toxicity of these pollutants. In this context, the present study proposes a sandwich structure of fulvic acid and PMIDA-modified LDHs (FA/PMIDA-LDHs) for the simultaneous removal of Cu2+ and aniline from wastewater. The specific structure was synthesized using a combination of coprecipitation and impregnation methods. Abundant benzene rings and oxygen-containing functional groups greatly increased the number of sites for the adsorption of both Cu2+ and aniline. The maximum adsorption capacity of Cu2+ and aniline in solution with initial pH 5.0 at 25 °C could reach 221.24 and 132.28 mg/g, respectively. Cu2+ could be chelated by the functional groups in the FA/PMIDA-LDHs structure, and a coupled reduction-complexation mechanism was proposed for this process. The uptake of aniline on FA/PMIDA-LDHs was demonstrated to be a result of the combination of coordination forces, hydrophobic effects, π-π interactions, and hydrogen bonds. In a multicomponent solution, FA/PMIDA-LDHs exhibited excellent salt tolerance of up to 1000 mg/L of Na+ or Ca2+. The effects of Fe3+, Ni2+, Cl-, Cr2O72-, SO42-, and H2PO4- on the uptakes of Cu2+ and aniline were also investigated.

Abstract
Herein, a magnetic MXenes based composite (Fe3O4@Ti3C2-NH2-PT) was constructed by loading Fe3O4 nano-particles into the interlamellar spacing of persimmon tannin-functionalized Ti3C2-NH2. The structure, morphology and physicochemical properties of the as-prepared adsorbents were probed by advanced spectroscopy techniques, while the impact of various experimental conditions like pH values, amount of adsorbent and contact time on the removal trend were examined by batch experiments. The elimination results revealed that Fe3O4@Ti3C2-NH2-PT could be applied in a wide range of initial concentrations, and exhibited outstanding removal efficiency for U(VI) (104.9 mg/g, pH = 5.0) and Cr(VI) (83.8 mg/g, pH = 2.0). Meanwhile, the adsorption process was described well with the Langmuir isotherm and Pseudo-second-order kinetics models, which indicated that the monolayer chemical adsorption occurred during elimination of the two contaminants. The spectral analysis results manifested that elimination of U(VI) followed an inner-sphere configuration, whereas uptake of Cr(VI) was determined by electrostatic interaction and adsorption-reduction process. This work opened a new opportunity in designing MXenes based adsorbents in the application for environmental remediation.
