Abstract
AIMS To investigate the relationships among communication competence, professional autonomy and clinical reasoning and to identify the factors that influence clinical reasoning competence in oncology nurses. DESIGN Cross-sectional descriptive design. METHODS Participants included 147 oncology nurses with more than a year of clinical experience in cancer wards. The Global Interpersonal Communication Competence Scale, Schutzenhofer Professional Autonomy Scale and Nurses Clinical Reasoning Scale (NCRS) were used to collect data. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. RESULTS Communication competence (r = 0.59) and professional autonomy (r = 0.46) showed significant positive relationships with clinical reasoning competence. Clinical experience, communication competence, age and professional autonomy were statistically significant predictors and explained 48.6% of clinical reasoning competence. CONCLUSIONS The clinical reasoning competence of oncology nurses increases proportionally with their communication competence and professional autonomy. Therefore, oncology nurses must reinforce their communication competence and professional autonomy to enhance their clinical reasoning competence. IMPLICATIONS FOR THE PROFESSION AND/OR PATIENT CARE The reinforcement of communication competence and professional autonomy is necessary for oncology nurses to enhance their clinical reasoning competence. In order to improve nurses' communication competence, practical-focused communication education programmes must be designed and deployed systematically and periodically. In addition, to increase nurses' professional autonomy, it is necessary to expand their clinical experiences through the regular rotation of working units and to make institutional efforts to retain experienced nurses. REPORTING METHOD We have adhered to STROBE checklist. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION Participants in the study were recruited online. They were informed of the study's purpose, method and usability and the survey could only be conducted if they consented to participate voluntarily.

Abstract
Medical and technological advances have made it possible to keep people alive well beyond what was once possible, leading health care providers to focus on life-sustaining measures rather than questioning the futility of such measures and considering quality of life. In the midst of the struggle to foster dying well in a medicalized environment, acute care nurses may be challenged with shifting the focus to providing optimal end-of-life care because of lack of training, time, and resources. A remedy for the current western societal approach to medicalized dying is to look back in history to a time during the late Middle Ages, when death was an accepted part of medieval life. A literary genre called Ars Moriendi (translated "the art of dying") was written and illustrated to provide instruction on how to die well and how to care for the dying. Nurses can apply lessons from this text to fulfill the ethical obligation to practice with dignity and provide compassionate end-of-life care. These lessons include helping patients and families identify goals of care and accept finitude, encouraging the participation of loved ones at the bedside, and fostering reconciliation at the end of life.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The experience of living with cancer is marked by suffering and loss, which creates a need for healing. Understanding what healing means to patients and how clinicians can play a role in the healing process is essential to holistic cancer care. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to explore the perspectives of cancer patients on the meaning and experiences of healing and the qualities of a clinician and the clinician-patient relationship that are healing. METHODS A qualitative study was conducted using semi-structured interviews with 14 cancer patients. Participants were asked about their illness experience, definition of healing, qualities of a healer, and relationships with clinicians that were healing. Interview transcripts were coded, and qualitative analysis was conducted to identify major themes. RESULTS Participants defined the nature of healing as comprising aspects of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Participants described healing as alleviating pain and symptoms; promoting mental strength, emotional comfort, and spiritual connection; restoring and adapting to losses; and improving quality of life. The qualities of a clinician that contributed to a healing relationship included listening, empathy and compassion, understanding patients' values and goals, and caring for the patient as a whole person. CONCLUSION Participants viewed healing as physical, psychosocial, and spiritual in nature and an important part of their cancer experience with an emphasis on quality of life. Clinicians played an important role beyond treating the cancer by helping in the healing process through their humanistic qualities and holistic approach to patient care.

Abstract
AIMS To elicit experiences of patients, family caregivers, and healthcare professionals in intermediate care units (IMCUs) in an academic medical centre in Baltimore, MD related to the challenges and intricacies of multimorbidity management to inform development of a multimorbidity symptom management toolkit. DESIGN Experience-based co-design. METHODS Between July and October 2021, patients aged 55 years and older with multimorbidity admitted to IMCUs at an academic medical centre in Baltimore, Maryland, USA were recruited and interviewed in person. Interdisciplinary healthcare professionals working in the IMCU were interviewed virtually. Participants were asked questions about their role in recognizing and treating symptoms, factors affecting the quality of life, symptom burden and trajectory over time, and strategies that have and have not worked for managing symptoms. An inductive thematic analysis approach was used for analysis. RESULTS Twenty-three interviews were conducted: 9 patients, 2 family caregivers, and 12 healthcare professionals. Patients' mean age was 67.5 (±6.5) years, over half (n = 5) were Black or Hispanic, and the average number of comorbidities was 3.67. Five major themes that affect symptom management emerged: (1) the patient-provider relationship; (2) open and honest communication; (3) accessibility of resources during hospitalization and at discharge; (4) caregiver support, training, and education; and (5) care coordination and follow-up care. CONCLUSION Patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals often have similar goals but different priorities for multimorbidity management. It is imperative to identify shared priorities and target holistic interventions that consider patient and caregiver experiences to improve outcomes. IMPLICATIONS FOR THE PROFESSION AND/OR PATIENT CARE AND IMPACT This paper addresses the paucity of research related to the shared experience of disease trajectory and symptom management for people living with multimorbidity. We found that patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals often have similar goals but different care and communication priorities. Understanding differing priorities will help better design interventions to support symptom management so people with multimorbidity can have the best possible quality of life. REPORTING METHOD We have adhered to the Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Studies (COREQ) guidelines in our reporting. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION This study has been designed and implemented with patient and public involvement throughout the process, including community advisory board engagement in the project proposal phase and interview guide development, and member checking in the data collection and analysis phases. The method we chose, experience-based co-design, emphasizes the importance of engaging members of a community to act as experts in their own life challenges. In the coming phases of the study, the public will be involved in developing and testing a new intervention, informed by these qualitative interviews and co-design events, to support symptom management for people with multimorbidity.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to investigate the effect of a nurse-led multidomain intervention on chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC). METHODS Ninety-two HNSCC patients who received cisplatin-based chemotherapy were divided into intervention group (n = 45) and control group (n = 47). The control group received usual care of CINV, which consisted of administration of antiemetics according to physicians' preference, education about CINV control and dietary recommendations provided by primary nurses. The intervention group received nurse-led, evidence-based multidomain management, including nurse-led CINV risk factors assessment, education on prevention and control of CINV, antiemetics following guidelines, dietary strategies, and relaxation therapy. The number of patients who experienced CINV was collected. The severity of CINV was graded according to the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events v3.0. The influence of CINV on patient's quality of life was assessed by the Functional Living Index-Emesis (FLIE). RESULTS The incidence and the severity of nausea and vomiting in the intervention group were significantly lower than those in the control group within 5 days after chemotherapy, and the scores of the dimension of nausea and vomiting in the intervention group were significantly higher than those in the control group [63.00 (50.00-63.00) vs 40.00(28.00-63.00), 63.00(63.00-63.00) vs 63.00 (43.00-63.00)], the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Nurse-led multidomain intervention can reduce the incidence and the severity of CINV in patients with HNSCC who were treated with cisplatin-based chemotherapy, and thus reduced the influence of CINV on patients' quality of life. Abstract
This study aims to examine cancer patients' opinions of safety, the observance of patient's rights, and the quality of healthcare. Such an analysis will allow for the identification of areas for improvement in quality, safety, and communication between medical staff and patients. Cancer patients are a special kind of patients with chronic and complex diseases, so we need to observe the type of communication they use, which is a critical issue in a hospital ward but also has a significant impact on how the patient follows recommendations at home. Observing a patient's rights impacts the safety and quality of medical care. This information allows for the identification of areas requiring deeper analysis and improvement. This study was based on a survey conducted at an oncology hospital. The survey contained questions divided into seven sections related to the study areas. Our study emphasizes the importance of knowledge and understanding regarding patient rights among medical staff and patients, underscoring their role in ensuring quality and safety in healthcare settings. We found a strong correlation between the politeness of medical receptionists and staff and patient perceptions of the clarity and exhaustiveness of the information provided.

Abstract
AIM This study aimed to identify the modules of the End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium-Japan Core Curriculum (ELNEC-J), which are particularly necessary for second- to fourth-year nurses. METHODOLOGY This cross-sectional study recruited certified nurse specialists in cancer nursing (CNSCNs) endorsed by the Japanese Nursing Association enrolled in Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) in Japan. We asked individuals who were active members of the volunteer association of CNSCNs in the Tokai region to participate via email, and we collected data using Google Forms. The participants were asked about their background, including APRN experience and current position. Furthermore, we asked them to select three necessary modules for second- to fourth-year nurses' education from the 10 modules of the ELNEC-J. RESULTS The study recruited a total of 19 (89%) APRNs (response rate: 100%). Out of them, 14 (73.6%) had more than six years of clinical experience in APRNs, and 12 (63.1%) held managerial positions. Regarding the 10 modules of the ELNEC-J, the responses for the necessary modules were as follows: nursing care at end-of-life 13 (68.4%), pain management 12 (63.2%), symptom management 10 (52.6%), communication 10 (52.6%), and ethical issues in palliative care nursing five (31.6%). CONCLUSION According to the perspective of APRNs responsible for palliative care education for incumbent nurses, nursing care at the end of life, pain management, symptom management, and communication are required for second- to fourth-year nurse education.

Abstract
Heart failure (HF) is a chronic, debilitating condition associated with significant morbidity, mortality, and socioeconomic burden. Patients with end-stage HF (ESHF) who are not a candidate for advanced therapies will continue to progress despite standard medical therapy. Thus, the focus of care shifts from prolonging life to controlling symptoms and improving quality of life through palliative care (PC). Because the condition and prognosis of HF patients evolve and can rapidly deteriorate, it is imperative to begin the discussion on end-of-life (EOL) issues early during HF management. These include the completion of an advance directive, do-not-resuscitate orders, and policies on device therapy and discontinuation as part of advance care planning (ACP). ESHF patients who do not have indications for advanced therapies or those who wish not to have a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) or heart transplant (HT) often experience high symptom burden despite adequate medical management. The proper identification and assessment of symptoms such as pain, dyspnea, nausea, depression, and anxiety are essential to the management of ESHF and may be underdiagnosed and undertreated. Psychological support and spiritual care are also crucial to improving the quality of life during EOL. Caregivers of ESHF patients must also be provided supportive care to prevent compassion fatigue and improve resilience in patient care. In this narrative review, we compare the international guidelines and provide an overview of end-of-life and palliative care for patients with ESHF.

Abstract
CONTEXT Ensuring patient-centered palliative care requires a comprehensive assessment of needs beginning in the initial encounter. However, there is no generally accepted guide for carrying out this multidimensional needs assessment as a first step in palliative intervention. OBJECTIVES To develop an expert panel-endorsed interview guide that would enable proactive and systematic Multidimensional needs Assessment in the Palliative care initial encounter (MAP). METHODS A preliminary version of the MAP guide was drafted based on a published literature review, published semistructured interviews with 20 patients, 20 family carers, and 20 palliative care professionals, and a nominal group process with palliative care professionals and a representative of the national patient's association. Consensus regarding its content was obtained through a modified Delphi process involving a panel of palliative care physicians from across Spain. RESULTS The published systematic literature review and qualitative study resulted in the identification of 55 needs, which were sorted and grouped by the nominal group. Following the Delphi process, the list of needs was reduced to 47, linked to six domains: Clinical history and medical conditions (n = 8), Physical symptoms (n = 17), Functional and cognitive status (n = 4), Psycho-emotional symptoms (n = 5), Social issues (n = 8), and Spiritual and existential concerns (n = 5). CONCLUSION MAP is an expert panel-endorsed semi-structured clinical interview guide for the comprehensive, systematic, and proactive initial assessment to efficiently assess multiple domains while adjusting to the needs of each patient. A future study will assess the feasibility of using the MAP guide within the timeframe of the palliative care initial encounter.

Abstract
Nurses face many difficulties and challenges related to how patients and their families deal with communication about end-of-life (EOL) care in China because of the strong influence of traditional Chinese culture. Moreover, education and training opportunities in EOL communication skills for nursing students are rare in mainland China. This study designed a progressive case involving a common EOL communication dilemma related to traditional Chinese culture and trained 50 undergraduate nursing students in EOL communication skills. A quasi-experimental design was used to compare the training outcomes of nursing students who were divided into a standardized patient simulation group and a role-playing group. The role-playing group (23 participants) was trained via group case discussion and role-playing among classmates, while the standardized patient simulation group (27 participants) completed EOL communication training by interacting with standardized patients and their families in a high-fidelity simulation. Attitudes toward death, self-confidence in EOL communication, and communication learning were evaluated in both groups during preintervention and postintervention. The results showed that all 3 variables improved after the intervention. This study shows that EOL communication skills training has a positive effect on nursing students to a certain extent.

Abstract
Background Quality patient-clinician communication is paramount to achieving safe and compassionate healthcare, but evaluating communication performance during real clinical encounters is challenging. Technology offers novel opportunities to provide clinicians with actionable feedback to enhance their communication skills. Methods This pilot study evaluated the acceptability and feasibility of CommSense, a novel natural language processing (NLP) application designed to record and extract key metrics of communication performance and provide real-time feedback to clinicians. Metrics of communication performance were established from a review of the literature and technical feasibility verified. CommSense was deployed on a wearable (smartwatch), and participants were recruited from an academic medical center to test the technology. Participants completed a survey about their experience; results were exported to SPSS (v.28.0) for descriptive analysis. Results Forty (n = 40) healthcare participants (nursing students, medical students, nurses, and physicians) pilot tested CommSense. Over 90% of participants "strongly agreed" or "agreed" that CommSense could improve compassionate communication (n = 38, 95%) and help healthcare organizations deliver high-quality care (n = 39, 97.5%). Most participants (n = 37, 92.5%) "strongly agreed" or "agreed" they would be willing to use CommSense in the future; 100% (n = 40) "strongly agreed" or "agreed" they were interested in seeing information analyzed by CommSense about their communication performance. Metrics of most interest were medical jargon, interruptions, and speech dominance. Conclusion Participants perceived significant benefits of CommSense to track and improve communication skills. Future work will deploy CommSense in the clinical setting with a more diverse group of participants, validate data fidelity, and explore optimal ways to share data analyzed by CommSense with end-users.

Abstract
Objetivo: Analizar la vivencia de la espiritualidad en el paciente con cáncer en tratamiento con quimioterapia ambulatoria. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó una investigación cualitativa con enfoque histórico hermenéutico. Participaron seis personas con diagnóstico de cáncer que se encontraban en tratamiento de quimioterapia ambulatoria en tres centros asistenciales de la ciudad de Medellín, Colombia entre julio de 2020 y julio de 2021. La información se recolectó a través de entrevistas semiestructuradas. El proceso de análisis se realizó utilizando técnicas de la teoría fundamentada de Strauss y Corbin, tales como: microanálisis, codificación abierta, codificación axial y comparación constante. Resultado: La forma como los pacientes con cáncer en tratamiento de quimioterapia ambulatoria viven la espiritualidad se representa a través de las siguientes categorías: “Emociones vividas durante el tratamiento como impulso para seguir adelante”, “Las redes de apoyo, una fuente de fortaleza y esperanza”, “El cáncer, una prueba divina entre las limitaciones y el aprendizaje”, “La empatía del personal de salud, un mecanismo para afrontar la enfermedad y generar bienestar” y “La espiritualidad, una fuerza que cambia la perspectiva de la enfermedad”. Conclusiones: Pese a la connotación negativa del diagnóstico de cáncer, la dimensión espiritual en el paciente con cáncer en tratamiento de quimioterapia ambulatoria contribuye a que la persona vea la enfermedad desde una perspectiva positiva, aumente la fe y la esperanza para continuar luchando, le dé un sentido de que todo ha valido la pena, permite ver más allá y proporciona tranquilidad para enfrentar las adversidades ocasionadas por el cáncer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Timely and effective communication about end-of-life issues, including conversations about prognosis and goals of care, are extremely beneficial to terminally ill patients and their families. However, given the context, healthcare professionals may find it challenging to initiate and facilitate such conversations. Hence, it is critical to improving the available communication strategies to enhance end-of-life communication practices. AIM To summarise the end-of-life communication strategies recommended for healthcare professionals, identify research gaps and inform future research. DESIGN A scoping review performed in accordance with the Arksey and O'Malley framework. DATA SOURCES A literature search was conducted between January 1990 and January 2022 using PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, PsycINFO, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases and Google, Google Scholar and ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global. Studies that described recommended end-of-life communication strategies for healthcare professionals were included. RESULTS Fifty-nine documents were included. Seven themes of communication strategies were found: (a) preparation; (b) exploration and assessment; (c) family involvement; (d) provision and tailoring of information; (e) empathic emotional responses; (f) reframing and revisiting the goals of care; and (g) conversation closure. CONCLUSIONS The themes of communication strategies found in this review provide a framework to integrally promote end-of-life communication. Our results will help inform healthcare professionals, thereby promoting the development of specialised training and education on end-of-life communication.

Abstract
Objective The aim of the study is to explore the expectations of a group of first-year nursing students in China about developing their verbal and social interactional skills during their nursing education. Background Nursing students' communication skills were not fully developed in China. Students have many challenges to face regarding developing their nursing skills, especially interaction skills, when they start their education. Design A qualitative design was used in this research. Method Twelve second-semester undergraduate nursing students were interviewed on the basis of purposive sampling, and qualitative content analysis was employed. Results The main theme was 'facilitating a caring nurse-patient relationship' and 'using a knowledge base for performing nursing care'. The first theme comprises two sub-themes, 'caring approach' and 'helping and involving the patient in care', with three and two categories, respectively. The second theme comprises the two sub-themes, 'knowledge needed to be able to understand the patient' and 'health and treatment information', with three and two categories, respectively. Conclusion A synthesis of both knowledge and practice is needed to improve the nursing students' interaction and professional skills during their nursing education.

Abstract
Care in oncology requires both technical and psychosocial skills by nursing staff, so continuous learning is necessary. Evidence suggests there are some educational gaps in oncology nursing staff, and continuing educational interventions have been effective in overcoming these deficiencies. Aim: to determine the basic educational lines that a continuous training program should have for oncology nurses. A bibliographic review study was carried out in two phases from October 2020 to January 2021. In a first phase, the main databases were analyzed: PubMed, Web of Science, Dialnet and Medline, following the PRISMA methodology; and subsequently, an analysis of the most important thematic nuclei that a training program in cancer nursing should contain. The DAFO matrix and the Hanlon prioritization method were used. Four competencies that every oncology nurse should have were described: communication, coping, self-direction of learning and technical health. The thematic contents that a training program should contain were then determined, and aspects such as stress prevention and burnout, adequate communication with patient and family, and continuous educational and technical skills were considered. The results found suggest that there are deficiencies in the education of nursing staff. Continuing education programs are effective in supplementing them. They should develop the four skills described in the results section.

Abstract
Objective To study and analyze the effect of perioperative comprehensive nursing intervention on transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) in patients with primary hepatic carcinoma (PHC). Methods One hundred and ten patients with PHC diagnosed in our hospital from May 2019 to January 2022 were randomly selected and divided into a control group (n = 55) and an observation group (n = 55) by random number sorting according to odd and even numbers. Patients in the control group received conventional nursing interventions and those in the observation group received comprehensive nursing interventions. The two groups were compared in terms of surgical status, quality of life (QoL), and nursing satisfaction. Results The operation time, postoperative bed rest time, and hospital stay in the observation group were significantly (P < 0.05) shorter than those in the control group; the observation group had significantly (P < 0.05) higher scores of quality of life, including somatic function, emotional function, role function, social function, and cognitive function than the control group; chemotherapy adverse reactions including fever, abdominal pain, urinary retention, and gastrointestinal reactions in the observation group were significantly less than those in the control group (P < 0.05); the total incidence of complications in the observation group was significantly (P < 0.05) lower than that in the control group. The total satisfaction with nursing care in the observation group was significantly (P < 0.05) higher than that in the control group. Conclusion The perioperative application of comprehensive nursing intervention in TACE for patients with PHC aids in the smooth operation, improves patients' QoL, lowers the risk of chemotherapy reactions and complications, and enhances patient satisfaction and nursing quality. These advantages justify a wider perioperative application of comprehensive nursing intervention in TACE clinical practice.

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the effect of comfort care on postoperative quality of life, psychological status, and satisfaction of pancreatic cancer patients. Methods From June 2019 to March 2021, 136 pancreatic cancer patients undergoing pancreatectomy in Hai'an People's Hospital were recruited and randomly assigned via the random number table method at a ratio of 1 : 1 to receive either conventional care (control group) or comfort care (study group), with 68 cases in each group. Results Before the intervention, the two groups had similar visual analog scale (VAS) scores, the Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) scores, and psychological status scores. The study group resulted in a significantly lower VAS score than the control group. The study group required a lower dose of analgesics than the control group. After the intervention, the study group showed significantly higher scores in social functioning, role emotional, mental health, role physical, and bodily pain than the control group. The study group had significantly lower Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) scores than the control group. The study group showed a significantly lower incidence of complications and a higher satisfaction rate than the control group. Conclusion Comfort care effectively alleviates the pain of patients after pancreatectomy, reduces the incidence of complications, and improves their quality of life, psychological status, and satisfaction, so it is worthy of clinical application.

Abstract
Effective communication skills are required when nurses care for patients and their families navigating life-limiting illness and the end of life. Educators have made great strides in integrating end-of-life content into prelicensure curricula. It is critical to evaluate nursing students' perceptions of their communication skills to empirically guide the development and implementation of future education interventions. The purpose of this qualitative descriptive study was to explore nursing students' perceptions of their verbal and nonverbal communication competence when providing end-of-life care. Students participated in an established high-fidelity simulation focused on difficult end-of-life conversations. Students explored their perceptions during postsimulation debriefing sessions. Colaizzi's method guided thematic analysis of the audio-recorded debriefings. One major theme emerged from the data: delivering bad news is difficult. Four subthemes further described this theme and its components: (1) reflecting on communication at end of life, (2) feeling uncomfortable, (3) calling for more exposure to end-of-life communication, and (4) fostering a supportive environment for patients and families. Results indicate that nursing students had anxiety and discomfort when engaging in end-of-life conversations. These findings support increased investments in additional training interventions to facilitate the development of student competence in end-of-life communication prior to entering the professional workforce.

Abstract
Objective To study the effect of apatinib combined with seggio on the expression of serum AFP and CA724 and the long-term survival rate in advanced gastric cancer patients undergoing comfort nursing intervention. Methods 98 advanced gastric cancer patients were divided into single-drug group and joint group. Both groups of patients were given comfort nursing intervention, the single-drug group was treated with seggio, and the joint group was treated with apatinib and seggio. The clinical efficacy, survival rate, relationship between the tumor markers and the survival time, serum tumor markers levels (CA724 and AFP), inflammatory factors (IL-4, IL-10) levels, quality-of-life scores, and immunity function were measured after treatment. Results The clinical efficacy in the joint group was better than that in the single-drug group. The three-year survival time in the joint group was upregulated relative to the single-drug group. The patients with high expression of CA724 or AFP had a lower survival time than the patients with low expression of CA724 or AFP. After treatment, IL-10 and IL-4 levels were obviously decreased, and the joint group showed a more obvious decrease compared with the single-drug group. The quality-of-life scores were significantly upregulated after treatment, and compared with the joint group, the scores in the single drug-group were obviously higher. The CD4+/CD8+, CD4+, and CD3+ levels were increased, while CD8+ levels were decreased after treatment, and the changes of each index in the joint group were more significant than those in the single-drug group. The content of CA724 and AFP were significantly decreased after treatment, and the joint group showed a more significant decrease than the single-drug group. Conclusion Apatinib combined with seggio for advanced gastric cancer patients' treatment based on comfort nursing intervention can improve the clinical efficacy and survival time, reduce inflammatory factors and serum tumor markers levels, enhance patients' immune function, and quality of life.

Abstract
Aim To synthesize evidence on the concept of reassurance in nursing practice. Design Integrative review. Review Method PubMed, OVID MEDLINE, CINAHL and PsycINFO were searched from their inception to the 30 May 2020. The search results were screened. We assessed the quality of primary studies using the Mixed Method Appraisal Tool. Included studies were analysed using narrative synthesis. The review protocol was pre‐registered (PROSPERO‐CRD42020186962). Results Thirty‐two papers out of the 2,771 search results met our inclusion criteria. The synthesis of evidence generated three intricate themes, namely “antecedents of reassurance,” “defining attributes of reassurance” and “outcomes of reassurance.” Emotional distress was the main antecedent of reassurance. The three sub‐themes identified under defining attributes of reassurance include self‐awareness, emotional connectedness and verbal and non‐verbal techniques. Ultimately, reposing the confidence of patients and their families in healthcare professionals and the care delivery process to enable them to overcome their challenges constitutes the outcomes of reassurance.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim is to understand the experiences and views of oncology nurses about the unmet care needs of older cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. Nurses play the key role in evaluating and determining the needs of this special group. METHOD A phenomenological descriptive qualitative study with convenience sampling was used. Participants were referred by the Turkish Oncology Nursing Society. The study participants were 12 nurses aged 34-53 years, with oncology experience between 5 and 27 years. The data were collected using semi-structured face-to-face interviews. Interviews were transcribed verbatim with concurrent analyses and data collection. Thematic content analysis was used to determine common domains. RESULTS The study data were categorized into 3 contexts, 12 themes, and 37 subthemes. The first context, "unmet needs", includes physical care, psychological care, and social care themes. The second context, "barriers to meeting those needs", comprises the theme of patient characteristics, attitude of family, attitude of the nurses/healthcare team, health system, and culture. The last context is "suggestions for meeting needs". Nurses play an important role in identifying and meeting unmet psychosocial needs. SIGNIFICANCE OF RESULTS The study indicated that older cancer patients had problems in identifying, expressing, and making demands for their needs and that their culture contributed to this situation. Nurses serving in the outpatient chemotherapy units should conduct a holistic assessment of older cancer patients, be aware that these patients may not be able to express their needs, be more sensitive toward them, and ensure that the voice of the older patients is heard.

Resumo Objetivo construir e validar um cenário de simulação realística sobre comunicação de notícias difíceis no contexto de cuidados paliativos para graduandos de enfermagem. Método estudo metodológico, que seguiu três etapas; construção do cenário, fundamentada nos referenciais sobre simulação, comunicação de notícias difíceis e cuidados paliativos; validação de conteúdo, na qual nove juízes analisaram a adequação do cenário, por meio de uma escala Likert, para computar o Índice Validade de Conteúdo (IVC) e, de sugestões descritas no instrumento de análise do cenário; teste do cenário, que ocorreu com 15 estudantes de graduação em enfermagem que o analisaram pela Escala de Design da Simulação (EDS). Nesta amostra, a análise da fidedignidade da escala foi verificada pelo alfa de Cronbach. Resultados os juízes consideraram o conteúdo do cenário adequado. O IVC do cenário foi 0,84. Após o teste do cenário, os estudantes apontaram a adequação do design da simulação considerando-a adequada para a resolução do problema. O alfa de Cronbach foi 0,89 para o total da EDS. Conclusão e implicações para a prática o processo de construção e validação do cenário sobre comunicação de notícias difíceis resultou na produção de um material válido e consistente para ensino e pesquisas na área de cuidados paliativos.

RESUMO Objetivo: conhecer a percepção da equipe multiprofissional de cuidados paliativos acerca dos estressores no processo de morte e morrer. Método: abordagem qualitativa, exploratório-descritiva sob a perspectiva da teoria de Betty Neuman. Dados coletados por entrevista semiestruturada na modalidade remota e com nove profissionais paliativistas de duas instituições de saúde entre fevereiro e novembro de 2020. Resultados: organizou-se uma grelha de análise composta dos três Modelos de Sistemas de Neuman, ou seja, ambiente, pessoa e saúde, emergindo as categorias: Percepção de si para o cuidado na morte e no morrer; Comunicação entre equipe, paciente e família - minimizando o estresse em cuidados paliativos; Estressores pessoal e profissional e a estrutura de saúde. Conclusão: a principal fonte estressora se referiu à comunicação enquanto relacionamento intraequipe, e desse com o paciente e família. Considerou-se a pandemia como potencial impositor das dificuldades relacionais e comunicacionais, e a fragilidade do suporte da gestão em saúde foi vinculada à equipe multiprofissional paliativista.

Abstract
Aims Discuss the needed modifications that occurred to the academic–practice oncology partnership during the COVID‐19 pandemic. Background To meet the workforce needs of nurses who care for adults with cancer, an academic–practice partnership was created in 2016. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing, North Carolina Cancer Hospital and UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center collaborated to provide structured clinical and didactic practice experiences for undergraduate nursing students interested in oncology nursing. With COVID‐19, nursing students were not permitted to be in the clinical setting. Design Discursive paper. Method An innovative and collaborative partnership created reflective and interactive activities. The majority of the learning activities were created at the revised Bloom's taxonomy level of application or higher, with some encompassing multiple levels. Students engaged in a variety of meaningful experiences requiring multiple learning processes that promoted professional development in the interpersonal and critical thinking domains. Conclusions Despite the challenges of COVID‐19, the delivery of oncology nurse fellowship was successful because of innovative virtual strategies. Relevance to Clinical Practice Our academic–practice partnership allowed the nursing students to develop their interpersonal and critical thinking skills without entering the clinical site. This is an approach encouraged by the authors for other schools of nursing. This manuscript is submitted as a Special Issue Discursive Article, and thus, the authors declare that an EQUATOR Checklist has not been used.

Abstract
People with intellectual and developmental disabilities (PWIDD) often encounter barriers in the health care system when seeking general and specialized medical care. Literature has shown that PWIDD experience a lack of proper screening for and prevention of cancer compared to the general population. However, less is known regarding the cancer care and survivorship of PWIDD, especially in the United States. In this review, we examine what is currently known about the primary, psychosocial, and palliative care of PWIDD diagnosed with cancer. Our analyses reveal an immediate need for improvement in caregiver support, collaboration among health care providers, and ethical approaches to information disclosure for this population, as well as the establishment of more reliable standards of care through additional research with PWIDD.

Abstract
Palliative care focuses on symptom management, discussion of treatment and care decisions, network organization, and support of the family. As part of the advance care planning (ACP) process, staff nurses in the acute care setting are often involved in all of the above areas. It is yet unclear what nurses' roles and responsibilities are and what skills are needed in the ACP process. The themes that staff nurses and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) discuss in relationship to ACP are manifold. This scoping review demonstrates that staff nurses' core role is advocating for the wishes and values of patients with any life-limiting disease. Staff nurses also serve as facilitators, educators, and advocates to help start ACP conversations and ease patients' transitions between settings based on well-discussed decisions. To be able to engage in ACP discussions, APRNs must have excellent communication skills. Continuous training to improve these skills is mandatory. In the future, clarifying the contribution of staff nurses and APRNs in the ACP process in relation to other members of the interprofessional team can lay the groundwork for improved interprofessional collaboration.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nurses must be comfortable facilitating palliative and end-of-life communication with patients and their families. AIM A validated instrument measuring the comfort of nurses with conducting end-of-life communication is essential for meeting the goals and wishes of patient care. This study aimed to develop and conduct a psychometric evaluation of the Comfort with Communication in Palliative and End-of-Life Care (C-COPE) instrument. METHODS Face, content, and construct validity, including test-retest reliability, were conducted. RESULTS Four experts subjectively confirmed face content validity and the quantitative item content validity index (I-CVI) ranged from 0.67 to 1 and scale content validity index (S-CVI/Ave) was 0.98. Principal axis factoring with Promax rotation yielded a five-factor solution accounting for 66.2% of the variance. The items loading on the five factors ranged from 0.46-0.96 (factor 1), 0.67-0.93 (factor 2), 0.49-0.86 (factor 3), 0.68-0.79 (factor 4), and 0.24-0.96 (factor 5). Internal consistency reliability (coefficient a) was 0.90 for the total C-COPE, and above 0.75 for each factor. The five factors are 'cultural/spiritual considerations,' 'team considerations,' 'addressing decision-making,' 'addressing symptomatology,' and 'deliberate awareness.' Test-retest reliability yielded an intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) of 0.87 (CI 95%, 0.82-0.91). CONCLUSIONS The C-COPE is a reliable and valid instrument measuring nurse comfort with palliative and end of-life care communication, yet requires testing in more diverse samples.

Abstract
PURPOSE To assess the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effects of a nurse-led intervention for managing fear of cancer progression in advanced cancer patients. METHODS A single group mixed methods study was conducted in patients with stage III or IV gynecologic or lung cancer (n = 31) with dysfunctional levels of fear of progression or distress. The intervention consisted of seven videoconferencing sessions with skills practice. Feasibility measures included enrollment rate, attendance, attrition, and home practice adherence. Acceptability was based on exit interview responses. Content analysis was used to analyze the qualitative data. Participants completed quantitative questionnaires assessing fear of progression and secondary outcomes at baseline, eight, and 12 weeks. Linear mixed model analysis was used to assess changes in outcome measures. RESULTS The average enrollment rate was seven participants/month over 4.5 months. Participants attended a mean of 5.3 of seven sessions. Attrition rate was 30%. The analysis showed improvements over time in fear of progression and exploratory outcomes. Participants reported feeling calmer and more focused. The skills practice helped to manage anxiety and fears. Themes included: Struggling with fears, Refocusing the fears, and Realizing/reaffirming what is important in life. The most beneficial components included the values clarification exercise, detached mindfulness and worry postponement practices. CONCLUSION The intervention was acceptable; most feasibility criteria were met. Preliminary data suggest that the intervention reduced fear of progression and improved secondary outcomes. The intervention required a significant time commitment by participants, which may have contributed to increased attrition. To decrease burden, we will shorten the intervention.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To systematically review health care professionals' practices and attitudes toward addressing sexuality with people who are living with chronic disease and disability. DATA SOURCES Scopus, PubMed, PsycINFO, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health, Allied and Complementary Medicine Database, and MEDLINE were searched to August 2020 for English language publications. Reference lists of relevant publications were also searched. STUDY SELECTION Eligible studies reported on knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of health care professionals about addressing sexuality in the context of chronic disease and disability. The search yielded 2492 records; 187 full texts were assessed for eligibility and 114 documents were included (103 unique studies). Study quality was rated using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool. DATA EXTRACTION Characteristics of included studies were recorded independently by 2 authors. Differences were resolved through discussion or by a third author. DATA SYNTHESIS A sequential, exploratory mixed studies approach was used for synthesis. Pooled analysis showed that 14.2% (95% CI, 10.6-18.9 [I2=94.8%, P<.001]) of health professionals report routinely asking questions or providing information about sexuality. Professionals reported limited confidence, competence, and/or comfort when initiating conversations about sexuality or responding to patient questions. Sexual rehabilitation typically focused on the effect of disease, disability, and medication on sexual function. Broader dimensions of sexuality were rarely addressed. CONCLUSION Despite recognizing the value of sexuality to health and well-being, most health professionals regardless of clinical context fail to routinely include assessment of sexuality in their practice. Professionals have limited knowledge and confidence when addressing sexuality and experience significant discomfort when raising this topic with people living with chronic disease and disability. Multicomponent implementation programs are needed to improve health professionals' knowledge, competence, and comfort when addressing sexuality for people living with chronic disease and disability.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Fear of cancer recurrence or progression (FOP) is a significant concern for cancer survivors. With the advent of new targeted therapies and immunotherapy, many patients with advanced cancer are living longer while dealing with uncertainty and fears related to cancer progression. Although some level of FOP is normal and adaptive, high levels adversely affect quality of life and healthcare costs. OBJECTIVES This article describes a nurse-led intervention for managing FOP in two patients with advanced gynecologic cancer. The intervention teaches skills for managing worry, challenging unhelpful beliefs, and modifying unhelpful coping behaviors. METHODS Preliminary findings from the two case studies are presented, including a comparison of post-treatment FOP scores to baseline scores. FINDINGS The participants reported feeling more focused, less overwhelmed, and more in control of their worries. Both participants achieved statistically reliable improvements in FOP scores.

Abstract
Many older adults have experienced the death of a significant other. Understanding their perspectives from this past experience may heighten nursing insights about the type of care they desire at the end of their lives. The aim of this secondary analysis was to describe how the death of a significant other influenced older adults' perspectives about their end of life. Fifteen older adults residing in a continuing care retirement community participated in the primary study that explored the challenge of losing a loved one. Inductive content analysis was used to derive 4 themes to explain their perspectives about end of life: peacefully slip away-no heroics, familiarity-making plans that stick, tying up loose ends-what's left to do, and accepting-my time is up. This study's findings imply that nurses, with medical providers, should openly discuss with older adults their end-of-life concerns and care desired. Clinicians should receive education such as the COMFORT conversation and End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium courses. Further research should explore whether older adults may be more encouraged to formulate advance directives after the death of significant others and end-of-life issues in retirement communities. Increasing public awareness of palliative and hospice services is needed.
